Reviews of The Grand Café
I. M.
They claim to be the oldest cafe in Oxford
It’s very pretty but very small. They don’t take tables larger than 5.
The desserts and coffee were very good. I thought that the best thing was the Belgian waffle with ice cream and syrup.
It is fairly pricey so be expected to more than usual for desserts.
The hostess was very friendly and service was quick.
I would recommend.
C. W.
Even though it is a little pricey, it is nice to treat yourself now and then. I come to this cafe each time I come to Oxford. This time arriving around 10:30am for an early “elevenses” before much of the Oxford stores opened up, therefore pretty much had the pick of the tables.
It is a smaller cozier cafe so one would understand, come summer months with all the tourists, you might have to wait a bit to get a table. However, my experience once seated the waitresses have always been prompt and are helpful in their service.
As far as the teas, I have only once had a question, flagged my waitress down who was only too happy to take care of the situation once explained. Good service thank you.
T. w.
Lovely exterior to the Cafe & great part of history however a bit underwhelming when inside. Don’t expect much. Some gluten free options on the menu and the gluten free beetroot tart I got was actually really nice.
L. N.
Wow! We had a fantastic afternoon tea here today at the Grand Cafe. Our waitress Eleonora was lovely and so kind and friendly. Our scones and coffee were incredible. I highly recommend a visit here.
N. M.
The best scones I’ve ever put in my mouth. I’ve been to fancier afternoon teas in London and this was honestly better.
P. C.
Wow. I don't know what most other commenters were expecting, but this cafe is just fantastic.
Food and tea: Just delicious. Scones were fluffy, jam and cream fresh and light, tea was strong and rich. Cold drink selection looks great too.
Service: Amazing. It helped having a cute little one with us, but the staff were genuinely lovely, "chef" gave us a free portion of fruits for our louder/more upset than usual 15 month old.
Atmosphere: Refined, relaxed and charming. It's a small space and the chairs are a bit large but with no one on tables next to us it was fine.
Cost: The price is expected for Oxford, in fact I've worked in places in Yorkshire that charge similar or more.
TL;DR: 100% we're going again.
S. B.
Elite, historic, resplendent! Loved every bit of it. The place is always busy because of its popularity among locals and tourists.. so be prepared for a loud cafe experience instead of a quite and cosy one.. but all worth it! You might have to queue for 10 to 15mins, if not more, to grab a seat for yourself, so plan accordingly. The coffee varieties are nice, especially the Government Java Coffee. Do try a slice of the warm and delicious chocolate brownie if you have a sweet tooth.
L. K.
Popped in for afternoon tea and was pleasantly surprised. Great service and presentation. A wonderful way for this American tourist to enjoy a British Tea.
J. S.
Came here for tea and scones at around 11am while on a mini break in Oxford. Enjoyed Lady Gray tea with a scone.
Feels more like a café than a tea room and prices are a bit high. No social distancing in the restaurant, staff not wearing masks, cramped all patrons on the right hand side even though the venue had more space throughout.
Vegetarian options available, no vegan options so far as I can see. Service was okay. Not blown away by the venue considering the history of the place being the "first coffee house in England".
Service was basically clearing our table while we were still having our tea. Didn't feel particularly welcome. Ran away as soon as both tables either side of us were full, was very claustrophobic.
S. O.
Lovely place for Afternoon Tea. A bit more clotted cream wouldn't go amiss for 4 scones. Lovely sandwiches, petit fours very nice too.
a. l.
Lovely place, friendly staff, good food and excellent coffee!!
T. M.
We had high tea. Good sandwiches, scones and small cakes, lovely atmosphere, good service, a little pricy though. Worth a visit
M. G. F.
Always a good place to stop for a snack. It's a bit faded these days as it used to look grander before but still ok
L. P.
The food was average. The risotto with leek, potatoes and brie had almost no flavour at all. When I did my order I requested to add salmon or chicken on it. But they said they couldn't. The soup was ok. But same thing, almost no flavour on it. The peach chinese tea was good. The staff was very attentive and polite. And they served it fast. The place was clean.
J. L.
Some Good & Some Bad...sadly
- patisserie is beautiful. Fish platter was good BUT the meat platter was pretty horrible. The "Game Pie" had no flavour and the Venison Pate which was bright red was also fatty, salty and lacking real flavour. The meat platter was very disappointing and to be avoided in future. Good coffee, attentive and fun staff. Plus...the smallest toilet I have ever experienced. It was VERY difficult to close the door when standing inside the cubicle. I recommend using the other 2 cubicles that are available.

Its really great to be there as it is the first coffee shop in England.
Great customer service . Food, tea coffee was very good .
And lovely atmosphere.
T. K.
Such a lovely place! We visited in 2018 and ordered a set of Afternoon Tea (probably the High Tea set). Can be crowded in here, but we got a nice table with wonderful service from the staff.
H. W.
Proud and blessed to have a taste of England coffee house in the earliest site. Impeccable Vibe, Service, Food and Drink!
H. E.
Such a lovely place. I enjoyed the fresh scones they served. Friendly service. Would visit again.
C. A.
Lovely High tea with salmon sandwiches and egg sandwiches. Plain and fruit scones and mini cakes a wonderful treat in the oldest coffee shop.
S. T.
When we visited (Aug 2019), the cafe was infested with wasps. The waitress told us she had already killed 20 that morning and they were loads crawling up the window and flying around disturbing the patrons. Very distracting when you're trying to enjoy a cream tea. I wouldn't touch the sugar either, the wasps have been all over it.
There was a fifteen minute wait to be seated, and it's cramped and noisy inside - not conducive to a relaxed sit down!
Having said that, the coffee was excellent.
A. N.
Review based solely on coffee. Solid Americano with nice flavour. Along the whole menu, it seemed a bit over priced even if expected in such a touristy area.
O. R.
Very nice place for a coffee. The Grand Cafe was the first coffee house in Oxford, 1650. It is a stunning Grade II listed building so it is worth a visit. Additionally costumer service was excellent.
A. “. A.
Lovely interior and amazing location, friendly bartender. However, I got entirely the wrong drink served, at double the price of the one I ordered. Oops?
C. L.
Social distancing was really good in here, the waiter was also really friendly and kind! It cost me £10 for a hot chocolate and an ice cream sundae which is more than an average cafe I guess, but it was worth it as it's a lovely place!
M.
Always come here when go to Oxford. It’s a small place so expect to wait, but it is worth it! Staff are always nice. The food and pastries are amazing. You get what you pay for, and that’s quality! Interesting flavours and very well made. Nice selection of teas.
T. C. K.
One of my favourite cafe in Oxford town. Must try their coffee and cakes and I'm sure you may have different experience of local coffee here.
Loves the atmosphere and the indoor ambient was awesome touch of antique decoration. We really do enjoy the afternoon coffee here.
Service was great with smiles and helpful. Highly recommend to everyone for this cafe!
M. K.
Excellent for a short break of the sightseeing in Oxford. Friendly waitresses. I recommend the scones with clotted cream! They are the best in Oxford.
G. D. W.
Lovely place, well decorated. Friendly staff and the high tea was definitely worth the price.
A. v. C.
I'm so much in love with this place! The afternoon cream tea is definitely worth a try and my absolute favorite. I usually take the lavender tea. Sooo delicious! 😍
P. J.
We had a lovely lunch at this elegant establishment whilst visiting Oxford for the day last week. We both enjoyed the meals we chose very much and the service was excellent. My wife enjoyed a glass of champagne whilst I opted for traditional tea to accompany our lunch. Quite a popular lunch stop but reasonable spacing between tables. A really enjoyable lunch in a classy location.
D. M.
The best scones I ever had and the lavender tea is just delicious
T. M.
Very chic and grand however lacks quality. The chocolate sponge cake was inedible. Limited menu too
F. M.
Well what can one say!! But what a beautiful place, but staffed by the most miserable unwelcoming people!! Tea and coffee were good. But the toast that is advertised as seeded was like a bit of cardboard with absolutely no sign of a seed! The marmalade was out of a squeezey packet! What about some famous Oxford marmalade?? Well, we certainly won't be back!!
L. F.
It was great, very enjoyable, sandwich and platter, elderflower drink - just the right size, salad on plate not over doused in dressing. Next tables afternoon tea looked so exciting too. A pity we go home tomorrow.
R. B.
Beautiful old coffee shop. Great selection of teas. Very busy when we arrived.
A. K.
Old school grand cafe with good menu. A bit expensive but quite reasonable for Oxford standard.
n. c.
Cosi cafe with good cakes and stones. Coffee and tea is also good. It's cool to know that you are in the oldest cafe in such an old city. But, for me, too expensive! And It is not allowd to order any baberage without ordering any food.
F. A.
yikes.. I wanted to be wrong about the reviews but was pretty disappointed. the risotto was crunchy and soupy despite being remade after I complained and the BLT we ordered with no mayo came with mayo and no lettuce. For a sandwich with only three ingredients you’d think they could figure it out…
S. D.
Lovely place, busy and historic. Nice choice of food, but prepare to pay over the odds for the privilege.. Ie small glass Coke £3.95
Y. Z.
Just a normal cafe with average desserts, not so fancy.
O. W.
Went here for some tea and scones and had a really good time, our server was very attentive and great with my niece who came with me, lovely hot and fresh scones and really nicely presented too, glad we made the trip out, well worth a look!
a. p.
beautiful cafe. great salad, pie. satisfying coffee and iced coffee. as advertised!
J. W.
Excellent afternoon tea. Decent value.
G. F.
Loved the ambiance of this cafe. Staff were very friendly. Can certainly recommend the cake topped with raspberries which were the most delicious I have tasted in a very long while. Definitely worth a stop, especially if you like traditional tea made with proper tea leaves. ...and cake!
A. C.
A good place to have a brunch and afternoon tea with friends❤️
Kenya peaberry is great to order☕️
B. B.
Cream tea was delicious! Scones were warm and you could get refills of cream and jam. Scones are more cake-y than bread-y, I am sure that will make sense to some scone lovers out there. English breakfast tea was delicious! The small Teapots leaked a lot which was a bit of a pain. Lovely staff and fantastic atmosphere.
J. R.
This place is VERY special. It has the most luscious high teas, and excellent quality tea and coffee. It has the most opulent mirrored interiors too. Well worth the money and definitely worth a visit.
C. G.
We were met with a smile and seated promptly and enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea/coffee of afternoon tea and scones, clotted cream and jam. The scones are baked on site in their bakery and are the best and lightest I have ever tasted. Tasty assam tea and latte coffee. Service was friendly and at a pace that was leisurely without being slow. Lovely ambience with chandeliers and gold framed mirrors. Due a touch up paint wise but this didn't detract from the overall experience. Great place to watch the world go by.
M. K.
Delicious pastries and comforting hot chocolate on a cool afternoon! Despite a few dropped pastries and a forgotten order that was quickly remedied, the staff was wonderful and served us a small pastry sampling in apology. Everyone has bad days, so I have no complaints. In fact, I thought the entire waitstaff handled the small mishaps with grace and quick reparation. The pastries were melt in your mouth delicious and the hot chocolate was rich without being overly sweet. I visited on Wed 10 Apr with a colleague at the end of our workday and I will definitely return to sample more of their offerings.
E. G.
Historic tea House with a traditional and elegant atmosphere. Nice to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea with good scones and sandwiches. Great selection of teas available. The place is small and popular, so you may have to wait to get in at peak hours. A little pricy but good value for money
R. J.
Don't expect any finesse. It's a place with history and appears to have the old charm one imagines it exuded in its heyday. The service is friendly but ordinary, staff not really trained or immaculate as you'd expect in a nice looking afternoon-tea house. Ordered tea cake and coffee, it was good quality but butter far too hard to spread, and tea cake served 5 minutes after coffee; if I'd waited for the butter to warm the coffee would have cooled. Prices quite high, £20 for two people's coffee and cake, anyone going for the reputational value might be disappointed. Just average. Loos are mixed gender, a little poorly fitted, separate hot and cold taps with sign that says 'warning very hot' (it wasn't), hand dryer hardly worked - I could have blown harder.
A. D.
Food is great, tea is great, cakes are delicious.
It is in the expensive side for a cafe, but you get what you pay for. Expect to spend around £10-20 per person, but it will feel like money well spent.
S. F.
Used to visit when I lived in oxford 20 years ago and product was better. Now seems a little over priced to meet the tourist market. Tea served wasn't good but was quickly and politely exchanged. Food tasty but not everything available early Sunday lunchtime and over priced in my opinion.
S. B.
Food was nice but high tea was very overpriced for what you get and the seats are uncomfortable to sit in. They added a service charge to the bill too.
H. C.
Must agree with other reviewers on poor customer service. Staff needs serious training in how to engage with customers. Coffee is ok, decor is great. But that's it. Despite the "institution' status of oldest coffee house in the UK, food is sub par and the menu is extremely limited. Go if you must but don't expect great food or service.
G. C.
Good coffee place. The problem is that this place is always crowded as a result. I wish it was less crowded
C. A.
Convenient location. Waitress rather miserable. Nice tea and scones but nowhere enough jan and cream to go with them. They brought more reluctantly when asked.
P. M.
Great experience and we had good service, so no complaints. But with two kids - bloody EXPENSIVE!
£50 for four drinks and a cake or pastry each. It was our choice, so again, shouldn't really complain. Kids were fascinated with the huge mirrors 😂
D. R.
Historic place to grab an excellent coffee. Not cheap, but the Java i had was very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would have dropped a full five stars but for the pricing.
J. L.
Efficient staff. Overpriced.
Good location and environment!
E. S.
This place could be great. But: the staff is standing in your blind spot all the time looking around; when you are done eating, they won't come to get your plate. The salmon breakfast is good, but the poorly implemented "upper-class" atmosphere and inattentive staff destroys the experience. I didn't feel comfortable here.
N. S.
Lovely experience on the day we went which was a few days ago. Had a wonderful chat with the bar staff and the cakes and cocktails were lush! Also good music! 👌👍💯
L. S.
I visited The Grand Cafe at lunchtime on a Sunday with three friends. We all choose variations on the cooked breakfast, together with a cocktail to drink! The service was very good; all the variations were exactly correct! The food was delicious too. It is not a large space, but made to look larger by a huge mirror and very tall ceiling. There is a fabulous tea-pot acting as a counterweight to close the front door, which caused much facination. This was my first visit; but I will be returning...
B. B.
Good tea and wonderful high tea would deffinately recommend!
K. M.
This is a wonderful place to enjoy cocktails on a sunny summer's evening in the centre of the nation's most beautiful university city. I love to bring my foreign friends who visit Oxford here. The decor is incredible; you pay for it.
The service here is not the best. Sometimes the card machine stops working. Sometimes the waiters are not friendly.
C. W.
The cafe left me disappointed.
Although boasting to be the oldest coffeeshop they still haven't had the time to get it right. It lacked staff, the lady in charge was having to berate the younger staff quite loudly into doing the job. It was cramped, our table was right next to the open front door even on quite a blustery day. When there wasn't enough room to accommodate new customers they were left to wait standing up looming over us when we were eating - not nice.
Maybe next time we will go to the one across the road.
S. Z.
Service was lovely and quick and the scones are an absolute delight!
J. T.
Was a bit disappointed today on my visit. I usually look forward to having afternoon tea here, but today I left with the idea of finding a new place to try in the future. Tried the soup of the day and it was good, then came high tea. The egg and water cress sandwich was actually egg and some small lettuce. The salmon also had lettuce on it for some reason. Not proper tea sandwiches. Then my plain scone was very dry and crumbled to small bits. Actually didn't finish it. The sultana scone was marginally better. Overall I was disappointed today with my visit. Also, usually a wait to sit and today there were plenty of empty tables. Hope that isn't a sign of days to come. But I must move on and try somewhere else next time I am in Oxford.
T. F.
Beautiful place. Good food and the staff were very friendly
T. K.
What a lovely place, be prepared for a bit of a queue but the staff are sweet and attentive, so it's well worth that wait.
I tried the 3 house coffee's and they all had such different flavours that really got you thinking. Beautiful layout inside, the cleverly placed mirror gives the illusion of space but is actually a small cosy place.
j. c.
Such a lovely place to have afternoon tea. We ordered high tea and one cake which I cannot remember the name but it’s so tasty. We love it!! High tea come with two different flavor scone, more like plain one. And sandwich also good!!
A. H.
Always a treat to come here for afternoon tea, great quality food and drink, and some of the best service you'll find in Oxford from friendly and attentive staff.
j. h.
We went to this well known cafe for coffee and afternoon tea with very positive attitude. Arriving there we saw it was too busy, had to wait to be seated about 15-20 minutes. What I didn't like was that either you eat or you don't get inside this famous cafe!!!! I like having choices!
S. F.
Good venue to meet up, tea and chat
s. s. y.
Awesome tea and hot scones. Enjoyed it!
A. L.
What an experience! The sandwiches were great, the tea and coffee were equally as good. Fresh scones were just the icing on the cake. Next time we're in Oxford we will visit again.
T. V.
The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. The large mirror at the back of the cafe makes the cafe look more grand than it actually is but overall a convivial place for a nice cup of lady grey tea and carrot cake.
R. W.
In my personal opinion The Grand Cafe is overpriced and overrated. I went there for high tea with my family and we weren’t particularly impressed. I had googled where to have high tea in Oxford and The Grand Cafe popped up, so off we went. The high tea for one cost about £18, so we decided to share two high teas between the four of us. Each high tea consisted of 1/2 a salmon sandwich, 1/2 an egg mayonnaise sandwich, two scones ( with jam and clotted cream), and two very small pieces of cake ( one Bakewell tart and one lemon drizzle). You also get your choice of tea or coffee. The quality of the food and drink was average and I personally don’t feel it was worth the £18-something. The staff were friendly but not very attentive, which was surprising considering the cafe wasn’t very full. Overall, it wasn’t the experience I was expecting and I probably won’t be going there again.
M. T.
So glad we had opportunity to enjoy the English’ delight 0f Taking Tea at the Grand Café in Oxford.
H. A.
Good food, nice people..But they dont like people sitting with a computer enjoying their coffee.
R. C.
Nice spot to get an English Breakfast and tea before starting an exploration of Oxford.
C. C. W.
Great scones
M. S.
Well what a disappointment. Was almost turned away when I mentioned I needed the loo before I sat down....then told I cannot have extra egg instead of a veggie sausage, then told after my bucks fizz that I cannot even have a cup of tea as the menu includes one drink, even though I offered to pay more.....
What on earth has happened?
Edit......
Just spoken to the manager, he has sorted everything out. Newbie staff unsure of protocol.
One star to four star.
Many thanks.
S. W.
Beautiful, Historic Place to drink Coffee and Tea. Best Tea is Lady Grey.
Cake and food very fine and good.😊
When you need extra Water for Tea, thats cost Extra. 😏
S. M.
The coffee tastes above par but the waiting staff are anxious to get you out so they can serve higher spending tables (was on a table of two where four could have fit, was the only table available)
The decor and atmosphere is cramped, forcibly quirky.
If you want to go there to say that you've been there, sure it's worth it. Expect coffee for £10 for two.
D. W.
Nice place to have a chat with friends over a afternoon tea, in nice surrounding
C. J.
This place has great style and atmosphere, there should be more places like it ! Four of us had tea and cake (all voted delicious, with plentiful portions), the service was good despite the fact that they were full and very busy. I didn't think it was expensive considering the quality of the food and décor - I've had to spend more elsewhere in places far inferior to this. We will definitely be going back !
K. B.
Hi tea is a must for order for two persons:)
N. M.
Excellent cream tea to be had here. Felt sorry for the servers as the place was packed wih silly tourists like us and service was a tad slow as a result but we ended up with a nice Darjeeling and some great scones. Also the cream goes on first unless you're a numpty
S. P.
Venerable coffee house, founded around 1650. Enjoyed really good Darjeeling and Earl Grey tea with fruit and plain scones and unlimited thick double cream and scrumptious jam.
Y. L.
Simply the most luxurious decor for any cafe in Oxford. Their cake selection is amazing along with their teas. However, it can get a bit crowded during the weekends and you may have to wait for a seat. Simply a must visit in Oxford!
A. D.
Very nice decor and good fresh food. Service slow due to not enough staff . Way over priced
V. S. C.
It was alright, but for "England's oldest coffee house" they could have been grand enough to allow me a cup to share my pot of tea, especially considering that's not all we bought. Apparently it's policy.
M. G.
Exceptionally good berry cheesecake with violet glaze. Well balanced sweetness with tart berry centre, excellent balance of textures with baked cheese cake, gooey centre, and crunchy oatie base.
Superb.
P. C. C.
Nice food, tea, atmosphere and staffs!
S. H.
A rather splendid cafe, in the tradition of such grand cafes. Elegant, attentive and with fine teas and cakes.
H. C.
Lovely feel to the cafe, great touristy spot with its history. Central location. Delicious cake just a shame they didn't serve soya milk but friends loved their coffees.
A. B. C.
Nice place for tea
李.
Very good experience. Good service. Will come back again.
S. S.
I glanced down at my wrist-sundial and checked my Julian calendar for the third time in the afternoon, was it tea time yet? The answer was a resounding no, but I'd had enough of waiting. Throwing my wax writing tablet into the hands of Optimus Procrastino next to me, I put on my best tunic and left for the forums.
What use was having a calendar named after you if you could not make adjustments? The time for tea was now, and tea there would be.
I arrived to find that the tea establishment was closed, as the tea-masters were under the mistaken impression that it was not tea time. The guard rounded them up in minutes and a quarter of a dial later the tea-servants were hard at work under the new management. The elevated tea was excellent, and thanks to the swift service I was able to leave just in time to see the updates from the campaign in Gaul on the evening pantomimes. It was then, I decided, that I would be bringing my tea-time to those savages on Brettania.
E. G.
Nice. Small cafe but all very pretty and touristy. High tea was good fresh warm scones and quality loose tea in a pot.
P. M.
Excellent afternoon tea with patisserie. Although billing itself as the first coffee shop in England, there is nothing particularly special about the place but it is a cut above Patisserie Valerie.
J. M.
Fine café. Coffee outstanding. Very tempting fare.
A. L.
Fantastic place for coffee, tea and cake or full works afternoon tea. Beautiful, good service and excellent quality. The only downside is that it is often full and waiting is necessary.
M. D.
The food was very good, but the service was not so good. Slow to take the order, brought in reasonable time but a long time to bring the bill. They almost had a fit when I had the audacity to go to the counter to ask for the bill.
V. K.
Really delicious, flavourful, and surely fresh ingredients. They also offer some vegetarian foods. Lots of breakfast options to choose from. I will definitely be returning in this place to try something new that I never tried before.
M. N.
The tea was nice, scones not too bad, however the cheesecake was a little disappointing
G. K.
Fantastic old cafe . Amazing cream teas and really friendly staff. Around 2pm there was already a queue but well worth it. One to experience for the decor alone!
m. b.
Terrific atmosphere, really good teas (their own blends), and good service. A Favourite place early in the day before the tourist crowds pour in.
F. Z.
Really nice and classy place to have a cup or two of tea. Perfect after a long walk in Oxford or simply to have afternoon tea.
One of my favourite places in Oxford!
K. W.
Wonderful building and decor, super friendly staff, always been seated even at the most busy times. I only go here for waffles and coffee and they are always perfect.
H. D.
The first coffee house in England ♥️
A. A.
My favorite coffee shop in Oxford
C. W.
A great spot to watch the timelessness of Oxford pass by. Some traditional favourite items and modern classics on the menu. A good selection of tea
F. L.
Expensive but grand setting and good service
J. W.
Came here for a special anniversary and had the Grand High Tea. It was delicious and the scenes were so fresh they melted in my mouth.
S. T.
Lovely location and setting; tea was way too strong with no option for extra hot water
J. M.
A favourite Oxford location - don't miss their cream tea, the warm scones and clotted cream are to die for!
Any evening they serve well-priced cocktails with friendly bar staff.
A.
It was lovely but a bit cramped though excellent service ,great tea and scones would recommend and would go to again.
a. r.
TASTY!!🍰🍧
Nice little cafe with lovely sandwiches, just across from Magdalen college and bridge.
L. L.
The food was fresh and tasty. The service was VERY slow,,lackadaisical and when we asked to speak to someone in charge were told none was !! Says it all really
V. S.
One of the places to visit for sure. A lot of history around this place and the food was good too. The only complaint was the people working there not very professional.
P. C.
Loved it, great food, nice atmosphere. Bit expensive but no compromise on quality of food or quantity. Would go again.
Z. S.
Lovely place to have breakfast
K. M.
Taste/service average. Price is good.
W. U.
Was lovely went with my other half would recommend for a lovely cream tea
D. B.
Beautiful decor, old fashioned tea shop, sandwiches were great...be prepared for a 10-15 minute wait for a seat though
G. U.
Food was very nice, but the customer service was poor.
R. A.
Best pecan pie and amazing coffee in lush location
V. M.
Wait wait wait...20 mins for a seat 20 mins to take order and 40 mins for it to be cooked... then they try and charge you twice for the same item.... nice surroundings & food when it arrives.
S. G.
Delicious coffee and, perhaps surprisingly, rather good cocktails. Well worth a visit.
A. B.
Lovely place with history, service was great but very very limited Gluten Free options only 1 on the lunch menu

Busy as expected, great coffee, great service!
M. L.
Don't understand the low score. We come here regularly and it's always great. Just gets too crowded on weekends. Not their fault though.
J. A. P.
Very beautiful cafe, it is a lovely spot and the afternoon tea is lovely.
N. C.
The cafe is quaint and the food amazing. Staff a little stressed and customer service could be better...
J. H.
An Oxford institution. Wondrous, otherworldly interior, like stepping into one of Agatha Christie's Egyptian mysteries. The high tea's legit too.
Z. T.
Not bad, but not really worth paying the extra for the fancy name. I mean... there is nothing wrong with it, just also nothing special that would justify the prices imho.
J. D.
Great meeting place. Reasonable breakfast, but the scrambled eggs were bland and slightly over cooked.
M. O.
Beautiful place among old building
A. C.
The place to be for an old fashioned cream tea. Lovely atmosphere, reasonable prices and great food, a classic in Oxford!
A. K.
Nice for breakfast, but not as luxurious as the outside may suggest, and also quite a lot smaller. It's pricy for what you get!

Oxford's answer to a Viennese coffee house. It's okay, but the coffee is not worth writing home about.
