Reviews of The Jericho Cafe
D. V.
Lively staff and a nice ambience for some breakfast can drinks in the morning. It was lovely to see that it was open from early in the morning. The service was great but the vegetarian breakfast was alright and felt that there were too many beans and less of other foods. Latte was quite bland and felt it will be great if we can choose some beans for our coffee instead to tailor to flavour choices. Did not have a chance to eat their cakes but they looked amazing.
G. E.
Excellent breakfast! Great to have proper meat - the sausage was delicious and on reflection, I should have ordered an extra one! Nice that they used real meat, not something you wouldn't feed your cat like other places! Friendly staff, clean, you could order over their website, which was helpful, or at the counter. Plenty to choose from too. Top tip - there's plenty of room downstairs!
s. w.
Excellent cake, good coffee! A smoothly run establishment which is very busy and fast paced. Really inviting location and the breakfast menu looks fabulous!
Visited this cafe a few times now.
Definitely worth it!
Looking forward to calling in again!
T.
Enjoyed our brunch here. Bagels were sensational and coffee was excellent. Good service and quite a lot of seating for an Oxford cafe, including a basement level.
T. B.
What we got was good, however, portions could be larger. Edit: There seem to be some vegan options on offer which I have overlooked. Since the quality was good I may try some of the other options in the future and amend the review.
A. W.
Had the Café Breakfast, asked for beans to be replaced by grilled tomatoes, they obliged no problem. In general well cooked breakfast, though a little pricey. If the meat comes from M Feller and Daughter In the covered market it would be nice to have the lemony sageness of their traditional Oxford Sausage!
N. W.
My favourite place to eat and drink hidden away in Oxford!!
The food is seriously good. I take out cakes etc for friends as treats etc.
The staff are so fantastic!!
Can’t recommend this place highly enough!!
C. R.
Excellent experience at the Jericho Cafe. The cafe breakfast was sensational, as well as the polite and friendly customer service by a tall boy with curly hair, serving us a fantastic Latte with a beautiful pattern on top.
M. T.
Very good breakfast. Main meal menu now very limited, mostly burgers. Fish pie no longer on the menu. But very good service and nice atmosphere.
O. G.
Dropped by for a breakfast bap after a morning cycle. Absolutely perfect. Runny egg, nicely done sausages and bacon done just crispy enough. Coffee was also on par. I'll definitely be back for more!
E. A.
New York bagel (mixed seeds) and chorizo melt. Great quality ingredients. Bagel had lots of filling (sauerkraut, Emmental, gherkin) with homemade dressing and tasty beef. Melt was excellent too with big chorizo pieces. A biiit pricey (but normal for Oxford I guess). The food was great but the drinks were average. Highly recommended for a take-away lunch by the park!
T. H.
Excellent cafe and well worth the visit. Food is high quality and cooked to perfection. Coffee is lovely. Very reasonably priced and nice quick service.
c. b.
Good atmosphere but Jericho prices on breakfast ...more bang for your buck in City or Cowley. My veggie breakfast was very sloppy and it's time they bought in some veggie sausages that aren't reminiscent of the early 90s with peas and things in them. My cappuccino for not pass the resting spoon test, therefore it was a sad latte in the wrong cup, I should have asked for a dry Cappuccino (like a real pain in the rear) just in case anyone was properly trained to use the coffee machine.
S. S.
Best full English I‘ve ever had. Also a great veggie and vegan option! Wonderful service.
M. C.
Excellent food, couldn't fault it.
The toilets were pretty disgusting, out of paper towels, no baby changing, so much dust in the radiator I'm surprised it still working!
G. W.
Excellent, and the earliest place to open in Jericho for breakfast.
I had the egg, sausage and bacon breakfast bap, with a bit of HP sauce. Lovely.
R. K.
Great breakfast options, especially vegan
R. R.
Top place.
Nice coffee and cake.
Breakfast menu looked good.
Busy and popular venue.
J. G.
A nice cafe with good coffee and great breakfast food. The pastries are also tasty. Service is also good, and prices are reasonable.
J. H.
Lovely place, lovely service and food and the lad working here seems so happy and is so helpful 😀 thanks! x
D. B.
This is my favourite cafe in Oxford.
When I first got a job in Oxford I arrived much too early on my first day and this cafe was my saviour, with a great breakfast and much needed coffee.
Now, over a decade later, it's one of the few cafes in Oxford that is still just as good as it ever was.
Seating can be tight and cramped but they've got a nice but of extra outside seating now, which is rare on Walton. Food is fresh and tasty, service is friendly and normally swift, though it does slow down on busy days. The variety of stuff available is fantastic, with a good choice of bagels, full breakfasts, main meals, waffles.... You'll find something you like here.
N. S.
Lovely but plates could've been warmed to keep scrambled eggs warm.
A. N.
My picture isn't great but the coffee? Fantastic! Not the greatest working spot but definitely worth the coffee and pastries, or a meal.
K. a.
Loved the cafe breakfast, excellent toast and amazing coffee! Quite busy and trendy Jericho staple - definitely be back ...
S. I.
Excellent coffee, great staff, lovely atmosphere, and a pain aux raisins that was the best! Thank you!
A. D.
Good but can be super busy so be ready for a wait and get your table asao
H. S.
Delicious food, really nice staff & came quickly!
H. F.
We thoroughly enjoyed our excellent coffee and delicious gluten free bakewell blondie and lemon and blueberry cake. Great atmosphere. The person who served us was very pleasant and helpful. Will definitely return!
D. P.
Sweet little cafe with great coffee and food. We are a gluten free couple so were happy when we saw GF options and enjoyed it all thoroughly. The person who served us put a smile on our faces and made our day. Can’t wait to be back!
c.
Enjoyed bacon, egg and waffles but it was weird that they shredded up the bacon
H. B.
The biscoff blondies is super duper tasty!
M. M.
The Jericho Cafe was great. I tried the Bakewell slice and the coffee frappe. Both were delicious.
O. R.
Nice Staff. Lovely food. Definitely would come again!
S. O.
Best carrot cake in town, good coffee, nice place ...
V. H.
Used to dine here fairly regularly but hadn't been back in some time due to lockdown. They have adapted well by offering outdoor seating. Didn't try the food, just a coffee this time, but it was good in the past. Servers are all friendly.
K. L.
Good coffee nice cake with pleasant staff
J. D.
Great food for a good price. Easy street parking, ample seating downstairs, and free wifi. Great place to eat or work.
R. J.
Good coffee and relaxed place to sit, friendly staff.
K. S.
Lovely atmosphere and good food. I can honestly say my mouth still waters when I think of the bacon, cream cheese, avocado and chilli jam bagel. Just gorgeous!
M. P.
Very nice coffee and Flapjack. Friendly service. Decaffeinated coffee as available.
S. J.
I had lunch here yesterday and what a treat it was. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was great. I had a cesear salad with home made dressing that was delicious. The coffee is top quality and the donuts to die for. Thoroughly recommend a visit
B. A. V.
Every time I have been in this cafe the service and staff was amazing. Very clean and tidy place. A really nice atmosphere, staff were very pleasant, cheerful and helpful. I will definitely come back again!
E. E. G.
Excellent café, great service food and drinks, went back every day of our visit
S. F.
Great little cafe! Desserts and drinks were great and the rest of the menu looked good as well. Will visit again soon
S. B.
What a fabulous team at The Jericho Cafe! Nothing is ever too much trouble, they excel across the board, they're a hugely professional establishment with the perfect dash of fun. Sending you all blessings and prosperity and I very much look forward to my next visit.
S. R.
Decent but not amazing coffee. Good food and nice seating
T. M.
Mainly been here for the comedy club which is fantastic. They always have a good variety of comedians from ones that are just starting out, to ones that have got a very well prepared set. Really nice cosy environment to relax in, although some comedians are not shy to pick on the back rows! Good bar upstairs to get a few drinks in the interval. Breakfasts are good too!
G. G.
Lovely Place to Dine xXx Breakfast was Sublime
P. P.
Lovely setting and good bistro food. If it's breakfast you want there's full English or continental. You can get a sandwich for lunch and cake too. The coffee isn't bad. It does fill up quickly and it's often difficult to get a seat upstairs. There is seating downstairs but it's not as nice.
Z.
Great breakfast and nice staff!
M. H.
Very cosy atmosphere, brilliant little café.
Exceptionally friendly staff and one of the nicest places to have breakfast!
L. C.
I really recommend the bagels made by One Daily Bagel - so so good and so rare to get a truly good bagel that doesn’t need to be mercilessly toasted to be edible in the UK. Get the mixed seed - similar to what you’d call “everything” in the US!
F.
Always happy to go there! Great coffee and cake!
r. p.
Great coffee cakes breakfast .After 30 years still my favourite cafe in Oxford
T. P.
Awesome cafe with comedy gigs every Saturday in the basement. The bohemian spirit of Jericho distilled and bottled in a cafe.
The serve good sit-down food, as well as cupcakes, and wine. Not had their coffee or tea but I've heard it's good.
Normally I'd give a suggestion but I've spent 5 years in Oxford looking for somewhere that still does stand-up. If you want comedy in Oxford then you should DEFINITELY go to one of their Saturday comedy gigs.
Oxford needs comedy, not just trendy bars - feed this cafe to keep us all laughing.
M. V.
Delicious carrot cake and porridge.
L. S. M.
A little expensive but they have great milkshakes and the brownies are probably the best in Oxford. For real food, the mezze platter is about £10 and great for sharing with 2-3 people with nobody feeling left out. Downstairs they have a huge place to sit and work without being bothered. Service is always friendly.
C. A.
Lovley little cafe, great breakfast awesome vibe
S. N.
The place to go in Jericho for food in a pinch or for a comedy night. A huge menu, and a really good selection of baked goods. However, the coffee is really pretty terrible, and the full english breakfast I had here wasn't very good either and was pretty expensive.
J.
Enjoyed a breakfast here. The ingredients are very fresh and of good quality. The most impressive part was the bread, warm and chewy! Recommending the full English breakfast and the melts section in the menu!
K. Y.
best sandwich and iced coffee i’ve ever had! you have to get the vegan sandwich with falafel, hummus etc it’s so yummy! also so nice inside :)
J. M.
I visited The Jericho Cafe, during the last day of my Oxford visit in January 2020. The day was a Friday, and many of the nearby restaurants were closed. I have ordered some Mediterranean item and found it good. Mostly this is a self-service point.
b. h.
Lovely little cafe to go the atmosphere is very welcoming and brilliant service
R. S.
OK flat white and nice place to sit downstairs. Ordered crepe with lemon and sugar (£4.50) but disappointed when it arrived - single pancake with lonely sprig of mint. Tasty, but left hungry 🙁
G. I.
Top spot in Oxford for some nice breakfast. Wifi is pretty good too and there's plenty of room for studying or working at the laptop. Waffles with bacon and eggs are great. Also great cake selection.
R. M.
A good full English breakfast served all day.
s. w.
Always have a good lunch here, but today’s was especially tasty! So pleased The Jericho Cafe is open for take away during lockdown 😁
J. C. P.
Nice staff, good price for bakery and food... coffee a little expensive and bitter as in most places in Oxford. Don't know why, really, most cafes have a bad quality supplier.
D. R.
A really cosy place with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and tasty food and coffee. Such a lovely neighborhood cafe that deserves every visit!
T. P.
For the first time ever (around 100 visits) the poached eggs weren't perfect today. Regardless, one of the best breakfasts around. Lovely spot.
J. C.
I got a caffe breakfast there on my last visit, food quality overall is good but the food is a tad on the salty side
T. W.
Fantastic coffee and cakes, worth a visit
D. C.
I have worked here for 5 months, and I am commenting from a employees perspective because there has been 2 very negative reviews posted recently about being employed by the Jericho cafe which I think are totally unjustified.
All I can give is my perspective - first off it is completely understandable that my pay is not stratospheric, I was employed with hospitality but ZERO actual cafe experience and have learnt on the job. Secondly the owners have been incredibly understanding, generous and kind with regards to holiday pay, making the work fit around my other job and in general. 'Mistreats its staff'... pfff that's JUST NOT TRUE. I can honestly only say good things about my experience working here and it frustrates me that people who have not worked here in earnest, only completing a trial shift, can take such a negative view and then spread it via the internet damaging the reputation of a place that I have loved working for! Shame on you.
T. P.
Nice bagel and melts. Nice cosy atmosphere.
A. C. S.
I have been few times and the service is great. Reading previous reviews, and with 19 years of experience in hospitality. I think that some people is really miserable to write a bad review because they don't get a job...
N. N.
All good, location, menu, price and staff. One dislike for sourdough bread (very last season) served with absolutely everything... When toasted, becomes so hard I nearly broke my tooth
I. K.
It's a nice cafe located in Jericho area. There is a great variety of breakfast options. The staff is helpful. The place is family and pets friendly.
M. K.
Really busy breakfast, nice vibe and good service and food.
B. E.
Nice cafe. Friendly staff. Good coffee. Yummy cakes. Can get quite crowded as very popular in a trendy, student area of Oxford
K. W.
Delicious food and good coffee. The French man who works here is so lovely and so friendly.
T. P.
One of the best and most consistent breakfast spots around
G. W.
Great cafe that is bigger than it looks (large basement seating area). Nice range of food, some excellent some average. Good coffee & cakes.
R. H.
Superb coffee, extra polite and friendly staff
A. J.
Went to watch live comedy (with the benefits going to the Mind charity) all of the comics were excellent and it was a great nights fun for a mere £7. Will be doing again
S. H. (.
Lovely place with a decent menu. It's one of those places that you feel like one of the locals when going in. We'll worth going in for a bite or better still something aweet
C. W.
Good place for weekend brunch. The milkshake is pretty decent. I usually go for the toasty melts but the chicken Caesar salad is also good.
A. B.
Nice cosy cafe but disappointed with price of cake £3.25 for such a small size. A lot of cafes have bigger slices for a lot less money.
A. H.
Always a delightful experience in that cafe really lovely place highly recommend it
E. S.
It's a very charming cafe with a good service. They have a specific place downstairs for people who want to work. Not my favorite Cafe in Oxford, but good.
K. M.
It's ok but a bit pricey for what it is. Poached eggs were overcooked.
R. F.
Nice and clean place snacks available hot and cold drinks out side seating available
P. W.
The cake was absolutely delicious and the Latte with Soya was made with good coffee but the soya had curdled. I will go back
H. G.
Busy on a Sunday morning, which is a good sign. And didn't have to wait long to have orders taken or to have food served. And it was tasty.
S.
Great atmosphere and somewhere to go that's a little bit different. The food is very expensive for what it is and the coffee was very expensive for the little amount of it there was. That said, it's a nice place and would go again.
G. B.
Great little neighhourhood cafe with very helpful, friendly service, great atmosphere and good food - the generous Ceasar salad I've ever had!
L. M.
Consisently good for a weekend brunch. Cafe squeezes many tables into constrained space so not much elbow room, but that's part of its charm.
K. N.
This is an Oxford Institution. Anyone visiting Oxford had to have an eat and a drink in here and soak up the atmosphere..... It is "the place" to feel comfortable alone or in a group.
S. G.
Fantastic menu, great location, great service and great atmosphere. I had a wonderful breakfast at the cafe and will definitely visit again
J. W.
Fab little stop off for coffee and cake, the cinnamon raisin bun was absolutely amazing
L. M.
Love their breakfast, and forest fruits flapjack. We can spend a whole morning there enjoying food, friends and read some papers.
N. C.
Very helpful and friendly staff, especially good at accommodating my gluten free needs. I can recommend the chicken and chorizo stew, the falafel and the coffee
S. R.
Good atmosphere, pleasant staff, fresh and interesting food and drinks. All makes this a great café!
A. S.
a solid 7 and a half out of 10
very nice lunch place.
Almost like an Oxford version of a Kaffeehaus
Someone stole some of my Melanzane Parmigianna but the bit I ate was super delicious
b. s.
A little Oxford gem. The number of papers I've written in this little cosy cafe is testament to it's excellence as a university city cafe...shouldn''t shout too loud as it's better when quiet, but they are a great staff, great owners, great atmosphere!
L. J.
Good food, but my order was forgotten. I think staff were distracted with a broken coffee machine
C. R.
Lovely place with awsome food and coffe.
A. P.
Nice place, always busy and good ambient. Good food. English breakfast and lasagna my favourites.

R. C.

A. E.
Well done Alex. Amazingly funny compere and organiser. As a Glee regular, this is well worth a visit for a more relaxed chuckle
A. N. H.
Great little local coffee shop with a very home feel to it. The staff is lovely, and the fries are delicious.
K.
Great food, lovely service, and a very pleasant atmosphere too.
A. A.
Coffee isn't the best & they should get 'professional' almond milk as it doesn't bled probably and spoils the coffee... I do enjoy the tables outside though
J. V.
Coffee is delicious and pastries simply amazing
Y. M.
Very friendly, warm atmosphere. Perfect for a hot chocolate and a piece of cake. Very friendly staff and free newspapers!
S. M.
Lovely place to study, friendly staff, only had a tea so I can't comment on the food quality, but it looked good.
A. S.
The coffee is great. The food lacked salt but it was delicious
T. C.
Terrific food, perfect staff. I had the full English breakfast. Delicious.
P. H.
The breakfast was excellent, especially the sausage which was the best I have had in ages.
S. S.
Very good restaurant!! The English breakfast is the best. I had been 2010.
G. H.
Nice home cooked food friendly staff, if only the door would stay closed on a blowy day it would be perfect, but I'm nit picking here.
K. E.
Unique French style Bistro with outside seating. Modern food.
