Reviews of Roadford Lake Cafe and Venue
D. D.
A little late getting round to our reviews from our July wedding at Roadford Lake.....but better late than never.
What can we say other than everything was awesome. We generally had an awesome venue/location, with awesome weather for a totally awesome wedding!!! All held together by an awesome team. So a massive THANKS to you all!!!
Will was our point of contact as the hospitality manager at Roadford Lake and with the lake being run by a trust we were mindful that we needed to respect their views and wishes about what level of crazy we could push the boundaries with for our ideas. But with that being said Will and the "bigwigs" (as I called them) seemed to be fairly easy going and were open to discuss most of the ideas that we threw out there.
With Will we generally have not met someone that was so helpful, cheerful and accommodating. It really helped us to feel at ease with our choice of venue and on the day just forget about the stress and worries which I can assure you we truly did.
Behind a great leader one would expect a great team.......and this really was the case. The whole Roadford Team were fantastic. From helping us set up and decorate the venue, to planting a tree, and to the dreaded tidy-up and taking down of the decorations they truly were awesome.
To anyone thinking about it we really do recommend a wedding at Roadford Lake.
See you again soon.

What a beautiful place. Plenty of seating, stunning views, great coffee and lovely cake. Cafe staff were really friendly too.
B. L.
Picked this place for breakfast as couldn't face the queues at the services in August heading for the coast. What a find. Lovely location, dog friendly, lovely cafe, delightful staff and very clean. Make this short detour travelling either way on the A30 you will not be disappointed.
P. J.
Great location for a peaceful walk in the woods or around lake. Lots of interesting features to discover. Nice cafe too with great snacks and drinks.
D. H. L.
Great location for a short walk. Dog friendly. Bird watching houses, pay and display car park (four pound for all day) cafe has light refreshments and gifts. Plenty of inside seating and outside picnic benches with umbrellas. Fabulous views across Roadford Lake sat with tasty hot chocolate from the cafe.
T. R.
Cafe the cakes yummy, staff where friendly. Cafe very clean , lovely setting and wonderful views. Very nice area to walk and relax. Worth a visited.
M. L.
The food here was really nice, the ladies at the till were so friendly and kind, I had a bacon bap and a hot chocolate, definitely stop here if a cyclist, even filled up my water bottle, thank you!
J. W.
Very pleasant walk from the car park to the Jubilee Sundial enjoying some great photo opportunities
L. W.
Small gift shop & cafe with indoor & outdoor seating with lovely views of the lake. Menu changes but today it was limited to pasties, sausage rolls, sandwiches, ice cream, coffee & soft drinks.

Visiting Devon for the week. First time visiting. Cafe was lovely. Good selection of treats, ice-cream and drinks, although no prices on the cakes and cookies, which is really annoying. Friendly man behind the counter letting customers know he'd be with them soon. The lady with the blonde-grey bob not so much. She needed to pull up her mask instead of wearing it under her nose. Also, she used her hands to touch the ice-cream cone I ordered, which I think in the Covid pandemic, is unacceptable. Everywhere I've bought ice-cream has used napkins, or gloves to ensure they are not touching the cones.
The lake is lovely and walks are beautiful. Lovely place to picnic/walk/enjoy nature. The 'play area' however is appauling and shouldn't be called a park. It's actually quite funny how awful it is. Two slides, two tyres, no swing and a couple of inventions thrown together by a bored person, with left over wood! Oh and a log to walk on.
I would visit again, as it is a beautiful place.
F. T.
We attended a wedding here.
The views across the lake are beautiful. Realised they also have a visitor centre and a cafe. Which we will definitely be going back to visit.
The only bug bear was having to pay over £5 to park for a couple of hours to go to a wedding that has already cost a fortune! But, I get they have upkeep costs so just paid it.
M. D.
Stopped off for a break on our way home. Beautiful views across the lake and enjoyed a latte whilst watching the paddle boarders in the lake.
R. F.
What an awesome little find, the cafe serves the lake very well, a big car park, relatively cheap too! Good toilet facilities. Sadly, due to the staff shortage, the cafe could only run takeaway service, but that was superb. Cakes were terrific and they offer lots of alternative milks for the coffees, Soya, Oat, Almond and Coconut - just ask. Given it was a popular place on a Saturday morning, the wait wasn't long, and good social distancing was observed. Top tip# make sure you bring boots/wellies; the paths can get a little wet, but worth working up an appetite for those cakes!
B. S.
Fabulous place with lots of opportunity for sports, picnics or walks. Dog friendly also in the Cafe .
m. c.
Good stop for a coffee when visiting Roadford Lake. Parking is expensive though. The cakes looks good, but we didn’t have any.
D. H.
Great place to hang out in the outdoors. Could be better if you could wild swim here and they built a beach,. Also added a few outdoor cool out spots, but pleasant enough.
N. C.
Nice indoor and outdoor areas. Service slow as mostly drinks are served and the order-taker made them up. There was a small selection of cakes.
T. A.
Good place for a walk with Dog or with kids. The cafe offers a good Tea. Busy always . Place is very tidy and relaxing. Customer service is brilliant. Everything is maintained to the perfection.
C. F.
Short-staffed but friendly and welcoming. Was upset to find that one of the two steak pasties that we had ordered was actually cheese & onion. Still tasted good but a trip home is always better with a Cornish pasty. Milkshakes were prepared with Rhoda's milk so I was expecting something amazing but it was disappointingly watery.
P. J.
Peaceful. Lovely views and walks around the woods. Bit muddy, as expected for October.
S. D.
Nice place with excellent views. The food was good and reasonably priced. A nice walk from the activity centre.
K. R.
Stunning place to visit for the afternoon. The food was outstanding. I wouldn't recommend the milkshake as it was not value for money. I would have given 5 stars except the rude lady serving us let the side down. If I happen to question the fact I didn't order something that was given to me, I do no appreciate being today 'Oh well, you've got it now!' As it turned out, it belonged to someone on my table. However, if it wasn't I would of expected a refund.
S. H.
First visit, was busy as had a triathlon going on but we had a coffee and hot chocolate and a sausage roll and a cucumber and cheese sandwich, but couldn't eat all the sandwich as it was quite big and too much grated cheese..
k. m.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, tasty food, good coffee, but... .. Very annoying music, more suitable for an anti natal relaxation class!
R.
Pleasant lakeside trail and cafe/events venue, could benefit from a larger dog exercise area!
G. S.
Lovely walk around the lake, nice and flat. Busy but plenty of space to pass. Cafe and shop a little bit slow, but considering these times at the moment all good.
M. H.
What an absolute gem of a place. Wonderful food well priced and scenery ...stunning. great staff as well 10/10
A. Y.
Great coffee and customer service. Views from the picnic benches are lovely.
S. D.
Picturesque location right on the bank of Roadford Lake with magnificient views. Nice selection of meals and the prices were good.
C. F.
It is £2.50 to park you car before you walk through the door, have you by the short and curlies! Premium pricing for an average offering.
D. C.
Good snacks and coffee was lovely. They are a little short staffed but the people working there are pleasant considering they were so busy.
R. M.
Lovely place to sit have a cuppa a bite to eat and enjoy the views & walks.
c. r.
Food was ok, jacket potato was cold, full breakfast was good.
C. P.
New paths improve it. Good visitor centre with tea and ice cream. Could build a bigger flat area for children to play sport on. Would be great if they built an entire circular path/cycle path all around the reservoir.
A. B.
Lovely views, clean cafe with a small selection of crafted products to look at but we've been there a number of times and haven't really had a great welcome despite our efforts. Espresso is ok but served in normal cups and with little crema so only ok. Would be nice to see more plant based options. Would love to give it higher score as we are local and looking for a regular place but so far only 3 star.
C. A.
Well worth the visit, great scenery, great place to sit for a picnic and a place children have a good run around
N. J.
Nice day for a walk. Lovely food, i had the cajun chicken wrap.
G. E.
Beautiful location easy car park access not too expensive stunning views from the bottom car park area so you don’t have to walk far to get a stunning view across the reservoir. Lovely cafe serving mixture of hot and cold drinks ice creams unfortunately due to Covid there’s no hot food being served they seem to be looking for new recruits. Toilets are very very clean and are open. They had closed the children’s play area. Well worth a visit though beautiful woodland walks that eventually take you to a Bird hide. Enjoy
S. 7.
Lovely walk, lovely views and great accessibility for mobility scooter!
S. W.
It's terrible... dont ever go there....
Only joking, I've lived in Devon for 30years and never knew this place existed, it's lovely and definitely worth a visit.
H. W.
Great place for lunch or coffee then a good old walk around the reservoir.
Would love to stop for an hour just for coffee but you have to pay to park.
S. M.
Dog friendly, stunning views. Sunday roast (booking advised)
S. W.
Christmas Eve with family enjoying coffee, hot chocolate and cakes.
L. F.
This is a FABULOUS place to unwind... plenty of open spaces, play area, walks, activities and of course the cafe ( which was sadly closed on the day of visiting).. but a great venue for a day out!!!
N. A.
The walks are lovely and there's a variety of difficulties to suit most needs. The cafe has lovely views but I'm afraid other than that it was a bit of a let down. It was busy, and service was slow. Limited menu available. And it's a silly thing, but the menu is right by the till which meant people were standing there for a long time while they decided. This could've been avoided and made the whole process quicker if there was a menu by the door.
C. W.
Beautiful scenery, nice cafe and shop. Lots of parking and good access.
C. M.
Busy cafe with great views over lake, outdoor seating
M. D.
Great venue, amazing staff, lovely views, food very nice ..
D. P.
Never been here before. Such a beautiful and peaceful location for a lakeside walk. Good solid path, seats and bird watching hides.
A.
Very nice place to visit and to relax with a nice coffee
S. T.
Great food, great service will definitely return.
J. R.
Expensive, slow, food nothing special, low on staff, staff running around trying to take care of customers, a very disappointing visit, wont eat their again,
P. J.
It's OK just need more staff as only do sausage rolls and pasties weekend's
R. R.
Lovely cafe in a lovely spot
D. T.
Nice surroundings and food ok but steer clear of the gift shop, prices seem to be a complete rip off.
H. M.
Plenty of parking. Lower levels need to pay. Upper level is free. Not sure if this is all year round for the upper level. Cakes looked nice. Friendly staff.
P. J.
Beautiful surroundings. Good quality, reasonably priced lunch and excellent friendly service. A place for people of all ages.
S. T.
Lovely area for a walk with or without a dog. Cafe is a nice way to end or start your adventure. Plenty of parking which is pay and display, £2 for 2 hours, £4 all day
G. J.
Lovely area to visit. Great for kids and dog walking. Nice cafe too
S. M.
Lovely place. Cafe excellent, super lunch. Spotlessly clean. Very kind, lovely staff. 💙
b. h.
Not the best but clean and tidy just do snacks as far as I could see
G. C.
Went for a friend's evening wedding party. Lovely setting, especially on a lovely, warm, DRY, sunny evening...as it was. Would definitely recommend it
H.
Lovely place to sit and enjoy the scenery. Delicious ice creams and beautiful-looking cakes. We sat outside for a good couple of hours enjoying observing the boats on the lake!
Parking is cheap and is right next to the cafe, which is excellent for those that are less mobile.
A. A.
Nice cafe good friendly staff with a good view of the lake.
Y. T.
A cosy, beautiful, very lovely cakes and a gift shop , with stunning view to the lake to have a coffee and a chat with friends and family! Some great walks for dog owners!
J. F.
Lovely looking inside however not a very good menu, they had quite limited choices and no children’s food, only sandwiches; the food was also quite expensive for the amount you get.
M. B.
Plenty of parking and great views. Plenty of walks arou d the reservoir but not sure if u can get all way round. Nice little cafe although could be a bit of a wait with current restrictions as only single serving hatch
T. C.
We found this amazing place by chance. Absolutely loved it. Fantastic scenery, sculpture, bird hide, a variety of walks, cycle paths and to top it all off delicous food(and cake😋) in the cafe served by lovely ladies. We only had time for one of the walks so will be back.
S. M.
Lovely staff, fantastic location, nice gift shop. Will be back
J. C.
Beautiful setting, views over the lake - cafe is wonderful, staff always wear a smile and are helpful and friendly..
Food always great, cake and coffee fab! 🙂
D. J.
Expensive parking at the main visitors centre. Trails were very muddy...they could do with improving drainage we thought.
Trail signage was also in need of a bit of TLC!
A. S.
Lovely location, nice cafe
M. B.
Very pleasant, nice walks, shop and cafe not expensive
M. P.
Lovely location and plenty of space to enjoy views and walks, loads of parking (cash and RingGo app), very nice cafe and gift shop, just a few miles off A30.
P. F.
A great place for delicious food and Coffee after a wander around the lake. PARTICULARLY good cakes! Great lake views for a relaxing break! Wholeheartedly recommended!
P. M.
Nice walk with partner and rex
M. B.
Beautiful location but no vegan options (had vegan pasties on offer but none there). Also I didn't like the vegan hot chocolate but that could just be me 😅
R. P.
A nice ship and cafe with a very picturesque walk around the lake, most of which is flat but very muddy.
A. T.
The restaurant is not open due to staff shortages, but the cafe is open. Does nice drinks and cakes and snacks. Great location to sit and enjoy the scenery.
M. G.
We had a very good carvery, everything was cooked to perfection. We ate to much but oh boy it was great. Fabulous sweet too. All clean and tidy, staff looked after us.
J. V.
Great place to visit, beautiful, peaceful, nice walk, can be as long or as short as you want, can take dogs here, also can let dogs off lead on walk, good place to visit with family / couple / on your own / in a group.
Car parking on site, reasonably priced and public toilet situated as you come into car park, plenty of spaces.
Cafe on site, not a lot of food choices, quite expensive as is the icecreams which are small size for price - no ice lollies or normal standard ice creams as an alternative which thought was poor, would be an expensive treat for those with children visiting!
A. R.
A beautiful setting a great place to stop and have a pot of tea and a good menu to choose from.
N. W.
A really nice lunch, friendlystaff, stunning location.
P. M.
Lovely bacon and egg sandwich but waited so long for food we'd finished our drinks. Still the scenery is spectacular whilst you wait.
A. L.
Beautiful setting and views of the lake didn't purchase from cafe as we brought own picnic
W. B.
Very nice. Purely. There are usually not many people. Restaurant. A small playground. Parking £ 2 two hours, all day £ 4. I recommend.
H. P.
5 star can recommend the walk and the pasty lunch. Tea hot ice cream cold, lovely. Thank you. Very covid careful.
G. B.
Good place for walking, cycling and water sports. Excellent cafe with friendly staff.
S. W.
Lovely food and little walk. Was disappointed by the amount of people with dogs off leads when we are supposed to keep them on a lead. So we did the sheeple thing and let ours off for ten minutes too!
S. F.
Beautiful location. Nice cake.
M. B.
Could do with a bit more outside space for dog walkers? Good cream tea. Scone warmed nicely. Nice view of the reservoir. Good staff
N. B.
Great place but full price parking for Blue badge holder £2.2f0 for up to 2hours just wanted to sit and look at the lake

A. W.
A very pleasant walk, good foot paths and cycle ways. Bird viewing hide, gift shop, Caffe and toilet s etc. There's also a children's play area.
G. S.
A useful stopover when going west beyond Exeter, on Bodmin Moor. Cafe not open because of Covid staff shortage, but coffees and pastries available.
M. C.
Great walking routes and some excellent water sports.
F. H.
Super lovely food and drink. Quiet with excellent views over the lake. Nice easy walk after lunch and cake!
K. B.
Beautiful setting to have a break during the day, enjoy nature with an ice-cream and a nice cold drink. Friendly service following protocols against covid.
D. J.
Nice place for a walk but I thought the cafe was quite expensive. There's a small play park which got quite busy but was good to run off some extra energy.
L. J.
The walks are beautiful but the hut that was open for food and drink was very slow we was 2nd in the que and was waiting for 15 minutes before deciding to get something on the way home
S. P. L.
Nice tea and local pasties. Friendly staff with good Covid measures in place. Could only sit outside when we went... toilets available though.
M. S.
A nice coffee and cake stop, next to the lake, work lovely panoramic views.
Can get very busy when the coach parties arrive, but worth the wait.
H. M.
Great function room, beautiful walks and you can grab a bite at the cafe. You have to pay for parking but it's worth a visit.
s. c.
A bit on the expensive side but was nice snacks
J. L.
