Reviews of Hetty's Tea Shop
G.
Wonderful breakfast today at Hettys Tea Shop, location was nice we sat outside by the canal as dogs are not allowed inside.
I had oatcakes which were amazing. Just was a shame that outside they serve your food in bags not plates.
Lots of free parking and your can combined a visit to Hettys with a walk along the canal.
Would have scored it a 5 but none of the staff knew how to smile and having food in paper bags and trays wasn’t great.
Would come again for the location and great food.
R. P.
Pre-booked afternoon tea in the dome for two. The service was excellent, fast and friendly. The food was lovely especially the home-made bits but the few store bought bits let it down when compared with the excellent home made bits but it was lovely to have so much choice. We'd definitely go here again but just for normal lunch dinner etc as although the experience was lovely the afternoon tea seems a little expensive for what you get when compared with other places we've visited but this is in no way a complaint as we really enjoyed it all I just think the rest of the menu seems more value for money as this was £42 for two people.
D. W.
Beautiful location, lovely atmosphere, great outside space and cozy area with good selection of food and wonderful cakes.
V. T.
We read great reviews for Hetty's and visited with our 4 children (10, 9, 7 year olds and 18 months old). We thoroughly enjoyed our vegan sandwiches, chips, finishing off with an oat milk latte, but the food was very expensive (x3 sandwiches, x5 portions of chips, x2 lattes and 5 soft drinks was the best part of £50!!) Unfortunately they had no vegan cake in the day we visited but the other cakes available looked amazing! The customer service was OK, not great but not horrendous either. We enjoyed; reading about the nearby lime kilns, talking a walk along the canal and completed the circular blue trail (with the very steep steps diversion!!!)
Absolutely beautiful location and can get very busy.
S. H.
Great little Tea and cake shop and a welcome rest with plenty of walks all around from flat canal paths to challenging hill climbs and field walking routes.
B. R.
Absolutely fabulous place to visit the food is amazing eat in out take out .Pudding and cakes are awesome. The staff are brilliant always happy to see you very helpful many thanks to you all. Great value for money in the food 👌. See you soon from Barry Roberts
J. S.
Beautiful breakfast with local ingredients, despite being busy fantastic service. Will certainly go again.
J. w.
Amazing place there cakes are out of this world very friendly staff place was full so we sat in the cosy tent witch was amazing lovely area buy the canal for families 5 stars
W. T.
Amazing! Beautiful inside and out.
Cakes are all homemade and taste delicious, definitely worth a visit
D. M.
lovely location, great scone and a brew. but £8 for two coffees and then £10 for two scones is way too excessive! i was gonna take the kids for a day out but unless they bring down the price I'll be giving it a steer.
I was in London yesterday and afraid to say it was cheaper than Hetty's! £3 coffee, £3 scone!
D. H.
Highly recommend this cafe it was so good and the staff were really helpful. We were going to have to wait 1/2 hr for a table but they managed to find a table sooner than anticipated Top marks all round
A. H.
Nice cosy little place ,beautiful scenery, delicious food ,
S. C.
Very nice cafe, but prices are way too much, one scone £3 and if you wanted jam it was an extra £1 plus extra £1 for clotted cream. Said 3 slices fruit loaf £3, jam and butter included, wasn't actually 3 whole slices were 3 half slices,, I know businesses have got to try and get their money back because of covid but this is extortionate. Will not be going again.
A.
Booked an afternoon tea for my mum's birthday. Table was set ready when we arrived. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The food was really nice, especially the cakes. They gave us a box to take some home as there was too much for us to eat. Booked again to take a friend for her birthday next weekend. Can get very busy so long waits and queues to order at busy times.
Z. T.
This is a (not so) hidden. Thankfully, I ordered my food and drink before the queue started. The employee who served me was lovely and patient with me when I couldn't decide what cake I wanted. I choose a delicious cheesecake and a home made sausage roll. Both were five star. I found a place to sit and eat easily as there was plenty of seating for all. I sat Infront of the cannel and enjoyed my view. Was a great experience. I'm definitely going back for another slice of cake.
H.
Wonderful walk and ended back at Hetty's. Staff were so friendly and the cakes looked homemade and incredible. The coffee was a little weak but still nice!
J. W.
Vefy friendly staff, lovely food, delicious homemade cakes 😊 Perfect spot for the afternoon tea 👌
A. G.
Took my parents for afternoon tea today. The whole experience was first class. Our food was delicious, including the gluten free afternoon tea which they really went out of their way to ensure it was just as good as the normal afternoon tea. Good choice of options for kids too. Very helpful staff and well managed Covid precautions.
J. P.
Excellent food and service as always 👍👍
A. A.
Good stopping place with free carpark and kiosk service for take out food. Plenty of benches. Recommend Strawberry and blueberry scones.
Not cheap cakes but very good. Pleasant area for walks along canal or in the woods.
J. M.
Really enjoyed the afternoon high tea! Looking forward to visiting again very soon!
A. H.
My wife & I visited on a miserable, damp February afternoon for the 1st time and were warmed by the lovely Carrot & Courgette soup with bread. The staff seemed lovely, renovation smart & the location is great for walking - flat or hilly.. Will call again when drier.
R. L.
Great setting but unfortunately coffee was average at best. Cakes and scones were well made but paying £1 extra for poor quality jam was disappointing
M. S.
Excellent service, lovely food 🍲 first time visit took, my mum & wife for lunch will definitely be returning lovely staff. Thank you
S.
Lovely café, beautiful settings by the canal. Great tasting coffee and food, service is good, friendly staff, all on the doorstep, and the takeaway cake menu is a must... scones are to die for
D. M.

A. O.
First time here, had a lovely breakfast, nice walk along the canal & back for coffee and cake. Well worth a visit.
S. R.
Always nice to visit, polite staff and home made cakes, delicious.
R. M.
The food is very nice. The scones are lovely & so are the pancakes. The staff are pleasant & helpful. The pancakes had been part eaten by the time this picture was taken. Well worth a visit
N. M.
Lovely tea shop, great food and coffee and set in a picturesque and historic piece of land, lots of parking, toilets, fishing and walking all on the doorstep, great place
G. C.
Lovely location and food at the end of the Caldon Canal in the beautiful Churnet Valley
c. j.

D. B.
First time visiting whilst staying in the area. Was very impressed by the service by the staff members it was very welcoming and we were made to feel very welcome. It is in a lovely peaceful area.
The scones are delicious and they have a wide range of drinks, cakes and savoury options.
Will definitely return when I am in this area again.
S. E.
Excellent food, lovely coffee, lovely setting staff were very friendly and helpful
J. P.
Enjoyed my visit to Hettys with a dear friend this afternoon. Our High Tea was lovely..the environment and customer service were second to none.Bought some of their cakes and scones home for family members which were declared delicious !!! Will certainly visit again x
L. T.
I really enjoyed my visit to Hetty's Tea shop we all thoroughly enjoyed our Roast Beef roll served with onion rings and a Yorkshire pud and our cake deserts were the best we had tasted in a long time. Generous portions and service excellent. A big thankyou to Jen who looked after us today. Will be back.
P. M.
It was very busy when we visited but the food looked nice and we had a nice walk along the canal.
T. S.
Great lunch and beautiful location. Highly recommended.
K. D.
Excellent food and service. Nice surroundings and child friendly.
P. W.
Great place & lovely welcome!
6 of us had 5 different choices of food that was well enjoyed apart from my spinach wrap that was hard like cardboard. Otherwise would have given 5 stars!
R. W.
Tasty Chips, lovely cream tea and my husband enjoyed his Egg and Cheese Cob. Service was polite and quick considering they were really busy today in this lovely weather. Just could have done with a few more shaded tables or umbrellas. Thank you, highly recommend.
J. F.
Very nice place, great coffee and food :)
J. C.
A lovely little find. Good service and food!
B. S.
Absolutely gorgeous cream tea, food & staff amazing xx
J. B.
We enjoyed some tasty sandwiches, and cheese and onion roll at a picnic table, then wandered around and admired the lock and quay, historic lime kilns and multitude of ducks. Lovely little place to visit.
P. A.
Wow what a beautiful place, this place was recommended and it was gorgeous dwfo going again ❤
K.
Absolutely love this place. Only visiting family for the weekend, but had to pop in for an amazing veggie breakfast! Such a beautiful location, and friendly staff. Can't recommend this place enough! Especially the canal-side walk afterwards.
C. A.
Delightful place, welcoming staff, good adaptation to COVID with outside for walk-in custom and a bookable indoors area. We had sausage and bacon baps with onion, mushroom and cheese. Delicious. Some interesting ice cream as well.
R. U.
Nice food but a little pricey though. Staff are still learning the ropes but seem nice enough. Great place to take in a walk as well
D. S.
Lovely food lovely staff so popular if you want comfort book a table indoors. Six of us went for breakfast and the food was beautiful. Great to get together as family to chat.
D. U.
Nice spot. Fair prices. Big queue to order food and drink, but staff friendly and food was good. They desperately need more outside tables.
M. W.
Wow, just wow
Great food, great setting, great service.
S. A.
Fabulous meals, although the menu has been reduced due to covid, wonderful and very helpful staff and beautiful surroundings! They have also just added a small Alice in Wonderland themed dome, offering a sparkling afternoon tea, if you are looking for something for a special occasion.
J. B.
Lovely idyllic place. Just wish there was a quicker way to get served. Queued for over 45 minutes the other day. Either take orders at table or have another window to queue at. When you meet a friend for a catch-up, half of the time you should have together are spent apart - one is queuing and the other is saving the table.
A. B.
Just had a pot of tea. First time visit. Nice surrounding and decor
D. B.
Such a beautiful location and amazing food 😍
L. B.
I grew up in the surrounding area so I know it very well. The food, service and friendly warm atmosphere is exceptional. I visited with my dad and my daughters for breakfast to celebrate my eldest s 30 th birthday
C. C.
We had a lovely lunch had to wait awhile but they were extremely busy
m. t.
Lovely tea shop real cosy atmosphere. Service was very friendly and helpful. Food was good although the cakes which I thought maybe home made were a disappointment as over sweet butter icings and toppings and a little on the dry side. But don't let that put you off still a great team room.
J. T.
This is a delightful cafe, serving delicious home cooked meals, snacks and cakes. Situated on the canal, it is a favourite stop for takeaway coffee and food when out walking in our local area. When it is possible to dine inside, there is a lovely pod and yurt as well as tables inside and outside. Very clean and safe and the staff are lovely.
J. D.
Never been before but I was very pleasantly surprised at the place. It was an amazing place. I felt so relaxed and lovely food. My view as I was eating.
B. T.
Nice food and setting, next to a canal for walks
S. C.
Lovely tea room good choice staff very friendly and helpful.
l. s.
Fantastic cakes brought some home for Mark and Jackie and us as well 😀 🥰🥰🥰🥰
D.
We went for afternoon tea which was beautiful, we sat inside the tent which was brilliant, the tent was lovely and warm and it definitely kept us nice and dry. The staff were lovely and friendly and made us feel really welcome
The only downside I found was only one drink was included in the price so we had to pay extra drinks
H. S.
Lovely gluten free food with accommodating and welcoming staff! Not very often you find somewhere like this which has gluten free options but here you can have all the sandwhiches with/toasties, Some breakfast foods and even cakes just with gluten free bread. Even gluten free chips! Lovely area and great for any ages even when it’s rainy :)
J. B. C.
Not bad, long time waiting to be served despite a short queue and plenty of staff. Would be lovely if they stocked some local ice creams instead of the usual magnums, cornettos etc. The location is nice though.
C. R.
A lovely place to visit and lovely freight day staff with superb food available. My only issue is the one window service leads to big queues and a long wait to get served
C. I.
A lovely place to visit! Really good food and lovely walks x
J. W.
Wonderful location , excellent service ( through the hatch !) but with no scones left had to settle for banana / pistachio sponge cake, which was a tad dry & lacking in taste. Will make sure we're early enough for their fabulous scones next time !
J. L.
Lovely clean and very friendly, lovely food
r. b.
Lovely Tea Shop friendly staff nice food Lovely walks to
K. E.
Food excellent staff friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble. Cake prices expensive for portion size.
H. S.
Turned up today for some lunch and cake. The staff made us feel really welcome and found us a seat inside even though it was really busy and popular. Great food, lovely scenery and lovely staff.
K. S.
Great place for afternoon Tea.
G. P.
This is the 2nd time I have been this month. A lovely venue to reconnect with family & friends. The food is fantastic & the staff are so friendly.
S. C.
We liked this tea shop, which has adapted pretty well to Covid-19 social restrictions and does some good straightforward food, though my wife was unimpressed with the salad garnish which she felt was rather unimaginative.
My Staffordshire oatcake with sausage and bacon was good. I'd like to try here another time and will edit my review again then but we felt a solid 4 stars was more appropriate for our visit.
K. W.
Food is cooked fresh and location is brilliant but service could be improved. I generally try to avoid busy times as it takes around an hour for food. It is only a tiny building, so the wait is understandable. Expansion is probably required to meet demand as it seriously gets swamped with people here and getting busier. Outdoor seating needs to improve because the waiting time means a sore backside! Staff are friendly.
R. M.
Lovely tea house, Hetty's homitty pie is awesome. Chips aren't great though, recommend getting new potatoes instead. Scones are really good. Lovely and warm even in a snow storm. Good walks around and worth going before or after
S. D.
Very busy today. Excellent food. Lovely scones. Service a bit slow. Limited menu.
P.
After a refreshing walk, coffee and cake was shared by a surprise visitor!
D. B.
Wonderful atmosphere, beautifully decorated and friendly staff. Breakfast was great. Unfortunately it became quite cool and drafty at times when doors were opened at both ends of the tea room. Other than
that we really enjoyed our visit.
J. M.
Lovely food, great service and a warm and welcoming atmosphere! Strongly recommend for anyone looking for a lovely afternoon tea!
S. W.
Didn't gave chance to experience the good as when I arrived they were closed for a private party. She was lovely and couldn't apologise enough. She offered me a hot drink and even gave me a frozen dog yoghurt for my doggy. 5 stars for service going out of her way...if the food is half as good it will be awesome- looking forward to going back again!
P. P.
Really enjoyed today been wanting to visit for a while. So peaceful sitting by water with scone clotted cream and Jam loved it ❤
L. H.
Helpful and friendly staff. The tea shop is open all year round. The tea shop is set in a wonderful setting in a grade two listed building. It serves a wide range of cakes that change each day. The cakes look absolutely gorgeous and they are cakes you wouldn't find elsewhere. They also sell lunches. The prices are reasonable and are similar to high street brand coffee shops.
K. F.
Fantastic little tea room that caters for everyone. Just a shame we live so far away or we would go daily
D. J.
I enjoyed my visit when I called in to Hetty's Tea Shop with my fellow St Helens group Ramblers after our weekend walk in and around the surrounding areas. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, we all enjoyed the home made cakes and especially the secret recipe scones, I must also commend them for such excellent value on all of refreshments as nothing is overpriced. I for one will definitely be calling in again when I'm next in the area. :)
V. L.
Always amazing service, in an amazing location. Food is pretty amazing too! And their menus only get better with time.
M. B.
Great selection of food and drink. A little expensive though
R. B.
Absolutely fantastic food, service, customer facing skills were brilliant, well done to you all xxx
D. O.
Amazing food, friendly and attentive staff. We were planning our next visit before we finished our food.
A.
Lovely little place, my friend discovered it on one of her hikes so decided to take my mum for breakfast. Lovely little quaint tea room made from a converted stables, lots of quirky little decor items inside and lovely comfy chairs. Breakfast was lovely too will go back in the summer.
K. W.
Lovely coffee and scone. Scone a little dry but apart from that beautiful surroundings :) happy staff :)
D. B.
Very nice location and excellent food, it just loses 1 star for the food being a bit pricey, but the surroundings very nearly help you forget about that.
m. b.
Lovely location, great friendly service .
G. B.
Lovely food, great staff and a beautiful building..
B. W.
Good food selection, reasonable prices, great location setting. Attentive staff. Only drawback, toilets across the road, and run by local council.
C. B.
Lovely atmosphere and characterful building; what a great way to make use of this beautiful heritage site. We enjoyed coffee and a snack, but will definitely return to try the cakes: the scones looked wonderful!
M. R.
Lovely upmarket cafe. Picturesque setting by the canal. Large public car park. No toilets,. But clean public toilets. Across the road. Very filling meals. Muddy boots welcome too. Also lots of outside benches for the sunny days too.
D. F.
Cakes, coffee and scones are excellent with unusual and delicious scone flavour combinations e.g. peach and raspberry. Dogs welcome outside but not in. Hetties does have a physically small kitchen (listed building) so meal service can slow at busy times. Lots of walkers set off from here so don't judge how full the cafe is by available car parking spaces.
D. F. (.
Beautiful place for a coffee and cake, but don't get your hopes up for a milkshake unless its the weekend.
R. D. (. E. P.
Simply delightful, friendly staff, huge choice of dishes and home made cakes in beautiful surroundings. The scones don't need messing with though IMO, over-egged the puddings with flavours include Rubarb and Bakewell Tart, just let them be scones, preferably sultana ones 😀
R. B.
Lovely spot. Great friendly service. One of our favourites.
M. G.
4 stars for the setting & friendly staff. Sadly didn't have what I wanted on the menu, so settled for a magnum...thought £2.30 a tad heavy, but it is a tourist area...
P. K.
Wonderful setting for wonderful cake and coffee
G. R.
A visit to Froghall is incomplete without a visit here. Dog friendly and staff ever so welcoming. Their scones are the best I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy
L. B.
Absolutely delicious food and very friendly service. Highly recommended both for sitting in and for takeaways!
S. N.
First time in Hetty's today. Didn't have time to stop so just bought a scone because they looked so nice. Had the raspberry and vanilla one. It was DELICIOUS!! The yummiest scone I've ever eaten 😛. Will def be returning to try out more on the menu. Tea and scones in lovely surroundings after an enjoyable walk will be most welcome 😀
R. H.
A lovely teashop. We had a very enjoyable experience with tasty food and friendly staff who, despite being busy, made time to stop and answer our questions. The assistant we spoke to was very knowledgeable, giving us lots of history of both the teashop and the local area. Looking forward to going again.
E. J.
What a gorgeous little gem by a river. It was busy when we went but luckily we had a picnic blanket in the car and they didn't mind serving us to that. The food was absolutely worth the wait. Fabulous and can't wait to go again.
G. B. M.
We had a afternoon tea and it was nothing put perfect.. they really did make us feel comfortable in not the greatest of times we were going through. They put us on a lovely corner table and the food was outstanding.. big thank you . All the food is fresh and divine xxx
R. S.
An absolute gem of a tea, coffee and cakes shop. The initial dilemma was, which cake to choose, I went for the fererro and it was delicious. We also had fresh coffee a foccacia and tea and scones. We could not have asked for better quality in taste but also in service. The young man who served our table, had a smile on his face, was making eye contact and was engaging in light hearted conversation , on top of that, nothing was too much trouble for him. We will definitely recommend and revisit this wonderful place.
V. P.
The food was lovely and really well presented and the staff were flawless both with hygiene and safety and how helpful and polite they were we will definitely go back
K. S.
Great setting for a drive out and a bite to eat. Very friendly staff and good value.
L. W.
I love hettys! Lovely service and lovely food, couldn't ask for more really. Beautiful setting and some lovely walks around also. Bonus that they sell doggy icecream which keeps our puppy happy after a nice walk.
M. C.
Great location and menu with great staff. I asked for something that they hadn't got on the menu. Beetroot and salad roll.
Absolutly no problem. The lady loved beetroot and they girl who deliverred it said they were all going to have that for lunch.
Also it was big and very tasty
R. T. D.
Lovely little tea room who were very welcoming of four weary motorcyclists even though near to closing time. Food looked and tasted delicious (I had home made asparagus & courgette quiche) and the pot of tea was spot on. Nice, comfotable and cosy inside.
C. A.
What a gorgeous place, idyllic setting alongside canal and in colourful woodland. Very efficient friendly staff and excellent food. No wonder it is so popular, will be back on our next holiday to the area.
C. C.
Lovely venue, excellent scones, service a bit slow, but worth waiting for. Scones v popular, person before me had the last one today! 😠Tiramisu slice instead, delicious. 😃
S. E.
Quaint place for a drink serving teas and coffee, selection of cakes as well as lunches and alcohol. Beautiful canal with ducks to sit next to. Shame there were a lot of wasps on the two occasions I visited, a nuisance but not Hetty's fault.
K. R.
After one of many walks in the area this is a lovely setting for a drink and cake overlooking the canal. Watch the narrow boats, feed the ducks and enjoy one of their lovely cakes while spoiling your dog with their own doggie ice cream or drink. Something for all the family.
C. F.
My daughter and I went last week and had a fabulous time. Its a lovely, cosy, friendly tea room that welcomes walkers with their dogs too. My daughter had a panini and she said it was the best she's ever eaten. I had a scone, and it was absolutely beautiful . There is a good choice of snacks ( which are freshley prepared) cakes and scones ( all home made) to choose from. Tea is served in a 'proper' tea pot. Keep up the good work! We can highly recommend you pay thrm a visit.
E. K.
This is a little treasure cove... The meals are bigger than expected, its simple, tasty food, in a beautiful hidden location... stunning walks or just to have afternoon tea or a coffee and cake... lots of people kayaking... we took the buckets and nets and there were thousands of tadpoles for the boys to catch and put back... went back several times with my dad and it didn't disappoint
J. C.
What an absolute pleasure and experience today at Hettys fully enjoyed ourselves lovely food and tea and lovely area location
Will definitely be seeing you again soon
S. B.
Very nice food. Bit disappointed with price to take away a piece of cake, small piece of cake, rather costly. Definitely will not stop me going again but will not be taking cake home
R. C.
First visit and loved it, great location , lovely Cappuccino and the sausage and cheese oatcakes were delicious... definitely worth a visit
E. T.
Beautiful setting, relaxing atmosphere wish I could have stayed longer. Only had a cuppa as had eat before I went but parents had a beautiful scone each. Great
M. S.
Good coffee and tea and cakes. Ice cream too and a lovely spot in the summer months.
S. H.
This place is beautiful inside and out, quite pricey but you pay for quality I suppose. Very nice well done hettys!
P. M.
Idyllic setting. Adjacent to the canal. A lovely tea shop, although after being open for 5 months, they've still got teething problems. Good Menu. Toast is served in a small shopping basket. Good sized portions. Highly Recommended.
s. f.

Really good experience. VERY busy on a Bank Holiday, but loved it
S. F.
Great friendly service. Superb food and glorious scenery 👌
K. C.
Great food reasonably priced, staff friendly and courteous. Deserts are delicious but need to be pre ordered to avoid disappointment as they sell out quickly
A. B.
Wow Team Hettys you are just ace, even with covid measures in place you still made us feel so welcome today.
Lunch was just delicious and we're delighted to see you flourishing again x
P. C. S.
Love this place!! Love the food, peppermint tea.. Service amazing and very friendly staff! 😍
T. H.
Lovely lunch followed by scones with a friend today. Excellent service. Friendly and comfortable. See you again soon.
P. H.
Good setting with tables outside as well, food was excellent, service was excellent, prices were fair, will definitely go again, great starting point or finishing point for a walk in the peak district.
C. H.
Very nice food and a nice place to eat, only downside it's very popular and been it's a smallest size it soon gets full. Well worth a visit though.
B. S.
Lovely location but average/pretty poor coffee and cake. Well socially distanced and friendly staff.
M. G.
Great place to eat and drink. Lovely setting. Great place for walks. Only downside were the toilets. Smelly and a touch dirty!!

P. P.
The lovely staff of Hettys, always welcoming with a lovely selection of sweet and savoury treats, and hot drinks too!
C. B.
Lovely place nice staff and good coffee.
Lovely walks. Just a shame the Council had not opened the toilets!!!
R. B.
I expect the experience is different when fully open but found it to be expensive for take out coffee in paper cups and average cakes.
N. S.
Very nice food and coffee and the surroundings are lovely but they are really very slow when it comes to serving food up, it really wasn't super busy the day I went
G. O.
nice little shop. dogs not allowed inside but a couple of seats outside. A tea, coffee and a scone came to around £7.50
S. R.
Had a lovely take out. Will be hopefully enjoying more food soon.
L. G.
Such a lovely tea room the food is fabulous and the staff are lovely and friendly
G.
Lovely food and place only down side been 3 times over past 3 weeks and card machine not working and no scones and no lotus milkshakes
M. U.
Had high tea, food was lovely and beautiful setting
L. B.
It was so nice going back to hettys again after all this time, even though it was busy the ladies were so happy and had a smile, lots of people around, all having a good time out in the sunshine, thanks to you all, welcome back.
S. C.
