Reviews of Charlotte's Tea House
W. L.
Waited 18 years and driven half the length of the country for this, was supposed to be a cream tea in Penzance, the place where the wife and I had our first and best ever, but alas that cafe had been taken over, so we came here instead. Not disappointed, lovely little place, attentive waitress who was very pleasant, freshly cooked scones and I think the clotted cream was home made too, certainly wasn't Rhoda's. Lovely atmosphere in the Victorian surroundings, felt very authentic, overall a great experience and great cream tea, worth the wait and the drive!
A. A.
Excellent place to have coffee tea desserts good friendly staff cakes to die for
D. D.
Loved this tea room for ambience of olde worlde setting, good food selection and great attention to detail. Charming.
B. Y.
We had a afternoon high tea which was so good. Nice view.
K. C.
Lovely little place, it was very busy so much we was seated and then moved again. Loved the old traditional vibes. Reasonably priced.

You may wait a while for a table, but it is worth it. The food is always delicious and they have an extensive list of different teas and coffee. Never disappointed by the freshly baked cakes (recommend the chocolate fudge cake).
T. V.
Lovely “old style” café, with waiters and waitresses dressed in quite old traditional uniforms.
Had a lovely cream tea which was nicely (if a little slowly) served. The café is above a branch of Pizza Express but has it’s own entrance at the side of the building.
m. t.
Had tea and cake this afternoon, the cake was delicious.
The lady that served us was fantastic, polite and dressed beautifully.
Will definitely be visiting again

My first time in Charlottes. I went with a group of people from Penryn Camera Club and the food, staff, building and cleanliness were all excellent. Wait times were acceptable and the staff regularly checked we had all we wanted. Waitress even chased down an escapee pickled onion! Pricing was reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. I will be going back again regularly - cannot praise higher than that.
S. P.
Charming set up and very clean. Lots of nick nacks around to give ambiance, yet there is no dust. Helpful, friendly waitresses. Had very tasty cauliflower cheese soup with a good size piece of bread. A little on the expensive side.

Charlotte's tea house is a must if you ever are in Cornwall. The cream teas, cakes especially the chocolate cake with clotted cream and tea were fantastic. A delightful tea house and well worth the visit.
T. T.
This teahouse is what u expect from the oldie worldie period. Setting, tea ladies and tea sets. Its a climb up up to the 1st floor, if I vaguely remember there is a lift available. Its position overlooks an interesting square. Had to try their tea and cream scone and just experience the relaxing atmosphere.
K. B.
Fabulous find in Truro. We had the best lunch during our whole trip , the cakes were first rate ! Staff were all extremely polite and the service was excellent
S. “. H.
We was in the area and looked for a tearoom and this place popped up.
We went in and up the stairs towards the tearoom, as you go through you get a feel of the place with antiques for sale in Rooms of the corridor and the period features as you go in makes it feel right.
Your greeted in and shown to a table by a waitress dressed in authentic uniform, with a good menu and a good choice of tea (tea leaves of you want).
We had the high tea and wasn't disappointed from the sandwich to the lemon posset it all tasted great, we loved the whole experience and wouldn't hesitate telling anyone else in visiting the place. 😁👍
W. M.
Lovely place to grab lunch, well presented food & nice polite staff. Will definitely visit again...
R. J.
After a long drive it was a pleasure to be greeted and fed , the food is well cooked and presented well 😋

What a breath of fresh air...... fabulous service atmosphere and the best toasted tea cake and coffee highly recommend 👌

truly a great place in Truro for Tea, relax & enjoy. It's in an old Church up the side door second floor, very friendly service.

5 Stars..........Nuff said!
Me n the Mrs will definately return to this Tea Room. Ok Covid rules apply, but see through all of that and youll be transported back in time to when Elevenses were Oh so Fashionable.
The Food, Tea, Staff and the Place are just brilliant. If you love a little bit of Tradition then go here for a Cup of Rosie and a slice of Sexton Blake and you won't go far wrong.
What a Gem

On our second visit to Truro, we once again visited Charlotte's Tea Room. The Tea Rooms are steeped in history and have a very quaint interior. The beverages and food are amazing.
On this second visit, we once again were looked after by the amazing staff. Unfortunately, we then encountered the Manager . We asked if we could take away our scone, clotted cream and strawberry jam, only to be told we could not have this food packaged to take away, but could be sold the exact same food at an extra cost by the Manager. We declined his generous offer to re-purchase the food we already had in front of us. After we had finished our meal we asked for the bill and started to put on our coats. The bill and the cash payment was collected by the Manager who decided that I was going to leave a tip. This was quite a remarkable piece of customer service as I had not offered a tip and was waiting for my change. In conclusion the female waitresses were amazing but the male Manager could possibly take some lessons in managerial manners.
A. B.
Beautiful setting: aged with style, yet not too much to pull you off. The food is tasty and filling, so make a fair judgement of your appetite.
e.
Enjoy the food and atmosphere here.
Its a bit pricy but definitely worth it.
T.
Lovely traditional tea House with amazing cream tea and cakes!
H. T.
My husband and I went in there for lunch. Got served quickly. Got our drinks then ordered our food. It was really good. We then wanted a dessert. The waitress came and took our dirty dishes, but never came back to see if we would like anything else. We got up and paid and told the waitress that we did want something else, but could not wait as they were getting busy. I am in the food traid myself, but as I am clearing tables I always ask if that person or person would like anything else.
K. S.
Thoroughly authentic. Loved all the antiques too
Traditional dress for the staff and the warm scones were awesome
Definitely recommended
b. c.
Good friendly service. Should be lovely atmosphere but was a little hollow. Food good
G. B.
This was just lovely. Loved the setting and the ambiance. Warmly welcomed by staff and were able to sit in the best seats in the window with a view over Truro shopping streets. Cream tea was served with ordinary scones and with gluten free scones - very tasty. Loved the whole experience and would recommend
B. C.
Excellent tea shop. Very traditional, down to the servers uniform!
j. H.
Lovely selection of sandwiches and jacket potatoes. High tea is fab with great views over Truro. Very quaint and traditional. Excellent range of drinks including teas and fruit teas
K. L. S.
Had a great afternoon tea, lovely staffs.
T. R.
Popped in for a lunch of toasted sandwiches. Really delicious! Homemade coleslaw and a side salad too. Very moreish. Will definitely be back!
T. R.
What a Gem. It may take a while to be seated and for your order to be taken. But boy it’s definitely worth the wait. The cakes are amazing and the staff are working their socks off to keep you safe and make your visit enjoyable. Definitely be back
S. B.
Lovely atmosphere, delicious cream tea..service very pleasant. Will definitely be back!
T. F.
Quirky establishment with a classy atmosphere, helpful efficient staff and excellent food
M. W.
What a great location. Victorian style tearoom furnished with wonderful accessories. The Scones were first class the best I'd ever had in Cornwall. The stuff was very friendly and we were very lucky to get loose tea. Great, we'll surely come back.
L. H.
The high tea was delightful and the atmosphere was fab, we visited with our 17 week old daughter and it was calm and quiet. All of the staff we're friendly apart from the young man who seated us when we arrived asking "do you need a baby chair for that" referring to our child. However apart from that the rest of the experience was very pleasant and I would visit again.
C.
Just a really lovely place to visit everything is homemade and delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful. A Victorian era tea rooms a must visit ❤️
V. P.
Very nice an old quaint tea room but lovely cakes and food and good service
J. K.
Love it. We both had a very delicious crab salad excellent service.
D. G.
The drab exterior of this tea house hides an eclectic array of table settings which make this feel like a relaxed Jazz venue. We were greeted by a happy smile and served with good fair, including a well made home made cake. This place is run by a charity, so not only can you have a relaxing break in an excellent environment, but you can feel good about indulging yourself. A win - win situation in my book.
S. R.
Well, when in Cornwall you got to have the cream tea experience they say... Well, we thought we'd indulge in fresh scones filled with traditional Clotted Cream and Jam and washed down with a good cup of tea at this place for £8.50 a head., a bit expensive but we thought it would be worth it.
Well, when it arrived the scones were nice and fresh but the cream I'd say was probably out of a tub, nothing like I'd expected, in fact, it's probably supermarket bought and too was the Jam and a complete let down as far as I'm concerned. The tea though was lovley but for the money we paid I expected better.
Was it with it? I'd say no, would I recommend it, I'd say no again. Shane really as the place it's self was lovley
C. J.
This place was heaven. Cream tea was simply perfect. My pot of tea was the best I'd had all week, so flavoursome. The scones were fresh, warm and amazing too. A must place to visit.
S. K.
A great spot for a traditional Cornish High Tea and other goodies, this restaurant/antique store is located on the top floor of the Coinage Building (which has it's own great history- I just finished reading Poldark) with excellent views of the Cathedral. I enjoyed the tea and the people watching- namely women of all ages dressed up for afternoon tea with their friends.
l. f.
Once again outstanding with lovely views over the centre of Truro. Lovely friendly waitress, nothing too much trouble.
B. L.
Very traditional and charming tea house, very welcoming staff as well. It was a great choice for a delicious home-made full English breakfast. It must be a great place for afternoon tea and scones as well.
E. D.
Wounderful location, great food and a special view to the cathedrale
L. H.
Brilliant! Lovely food and the atmosphere is fantastic. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. All the cakes are homemade and lush!
R. C.
Stopped here for afternoon tea, came across a little pretentious and when we was being seated was asked of we'd like a high chair for "that" referring to our 18 week old daughter. The tea was good, the food was good the price was high.
R. L.
Really nice to be able to step back in time for tea served in the old fashioned way. Food is lovely and filling prices are about right for what you get and the tea rooms takes you back to edwardian times.
K. H.
Beautiful setting, lovely old fashioned decor. The warm scones are sublime. Friendly staff. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
k. m.
Super charming teahouse in an old, typical old english setting. kind and welcoming service. Good tea, coffee and cakes. Also very Nice antique bookshop on the same floor. Must see/enjoy location. !!
D. H.
A quaint restaurant come tea shop. We will go again.
C. T.
Charlotte's tea room is a lovely place to stop for a relaxing snack and drink. You also have the benefit of a view over the main shopping street and Cathedral Tower. The atmosphere is calm and you feel you have stepped back in time. .
A. K.
Quaint liitle place which should get supported more than the high street coffee shops. Great coffee + cake, but go for the Cream Tea. Yum. Nice staff, lovely setting, excellent.
G. W.
Great food and drink selection and some very tasty cakes to choose from. Lovely old setting. Nice atmosphere.
M. L.
Nice to be back there and enjoy their delicious food. Promising myself some dessert next time Staff courteous though it was very busy.
D. C.
Sadly, not what it was, even compared with a few months ago. Fewer staff, slow service and prices seem to have gone up in the last several months. For us was essential to visit when in Truro but we may be looking at other tea rooms in future, after giving Charlotte another chance. On last visit, worth 3.5 stars: last few years 4.5 stars minimum.
P. B.
Quaint little cafe situated in the heart of Truro town centre. The staff all wear authentic outfits and the decor really sets the place. Great quality food and drink at cheaper than expected prices.
B. C.
Lovely place. Really interesting building, a very smart place with good menu and service.
B. H.
Lovely old Victorian Tearoom. I would recommend the high tea with a wide choice of sandwiches, the salmon and watercress option was delicious finished off with an excellent scone with jam and clotted cream.
M. B.
Old fashioned tea room in heart of Truro. Good selection of freshly made food and drink. A little on the expensive side. Cream tea was nice with well-made scones. Service was good on our visit.
S. J. W.
An 'Olde World" tea room, very Victorian/Edwardian. Reminiscent of the sort of place my mother would take me to as a child. Great selection of cakes and pastries, really yummy sandwiches and a damn fine cuppa. Shouldn't be missed if you're ever in Truro.
P. S.
Excellent pot of tea. Traditional tearoom with staff dressed in the traditional manner. Food is first class. Delightful surroundings. Home made is the order of the day.
J. M.
Our favourite spot for lunch in Truro, good choice at a reasonable price, staff always friendly. Only downside is impossible to add disabled access as on 2nd floor of historic building.
K. B.
Fantastic olde-worlde tea shop. Great selection of teas and coffees with other drinks available. Nice cakes to suit all tastes. Super service.

I had my first experience of scones and clotted cream at this tea house. I love it. Very nice the atmosphere like in the 20s. The waitresses are also dressed in this way, but not all are as friendly and willing to serve. The tea house is on the first floor of an antiquarian bookshop in the pedestrian zone.
