An amazing little find in York. An LGBT+ cafe. The owner was amazing and discussed how she got involved and why she created it. The cakes and cupcakes were amazing as with the atmosphere. Also great to know the house rules, the story behind it all and even the small hairdressers to the side of it. Amazing feel and atmosphere. Prices weren't too bad. Definitely a place for LGBT+ to feel safe. Just a shame it feels hidden behind a bookshop but apart from that, lovely.

I visited with 5 friends and we loved this place! From the moment you walk in to the beautiful book shop on the ground floor you're given the warmest welcome. The cafe is upstairs and has a really relaxing vibe and cosy feel. It's a really friendly place and the cake and coffee was delicious. I LOVED that there were different cakes that represented a range of LGBTQ+ flags. So nice to be in such an inclusive LGBTQ+ space. I'm looking forward to the next visit. 😊

Great coffee, amazing cakes, very friendly and welcoming staff, if you’re an LGBT+ person and need a safe spot in York to meet and interact with the community this is the place for you. Can get busy at times because it’s a small café, but it’s worth coming back again and again. (I recommend the lesbian flag caramel cake)

York needed this so much! Lunar Cafe is not only super cosy but treats and coffee are delicious. Brownies are vegan AND gluten free 🤩😍 so perfect for my tummy. Neli is very friendly as well. It’s so cool to finally have a queer coffee shop for the LGBTQ+ community. Also it’s like a double treat to come by, stop to wander around at The Portal Book Shop and then pop in at Lunar Cafe for cake and coffee. 🏳️‍🌈🦄

One of my favourite places in York! The lesbian caramel cake is a favourite, but all of my friends who have tried anything on the menu say it’s all fantastic. I also really appreciate lots of little things, like that there’s no upcharge for nondairy drinks, and the music is always fantastic. It’s also a great place to come hear gossip about people you’ve never met, if you’re into that.

I came here today for the first time and Nelli made me so comfortable! They were so welcoming and it was so lovely to find a place where I felt like I was around family. I am beyond thrilled that York finally has an LGBT+ space and I can't imagine anywhere better to spend an afternoon than upstairs at Lunar. I visited for the first time today, and, feeling slightly overwhelmed at first, I sat quietly in the corner, but before long I felt very comfortable and stayed for a slice of cake and three drinks. I will definitely be returning, and I recommend you do too.

My friend and I have started frequenting Lunar Cafe every Thursday. From the get go we were made to feel welcome, included and comfortable. Regardless of the space restriction, It hasn't deterred myself or others in returning. The cakes are amazing, I don't have a sweet tooth but the variety and the effort put into making them has me trying a new one every time I'm in. Very compact and bijou, it's very LGBTQ friendly, located above a bookshop just off the shambles, coffee and cake were both great and the staff were lovely - difficult to access the stair case is tricky - no bigots are welcome.
