Reviews of Sandwitches Cafe

From the outside you would never be able to guess how the inside and upstairs looks. It is a real gem in York, the prices are excellent and the staff were so lovely. If you are passing definitely visit, even just for a coffee I promise it's worth it!

Hidden gem! Quirky, music themed, 3 storey, little cafe hidden behind an unassuming facade. Good variety menu. We had club sandwiches and they were delicious. When we visited, there was a young workforce in place who were friendly, fast and efficient. Will definitely go back on my next visit to York. Highly recommend.

I popped in for a hot drink as walking around York was bitterly cold. I decided not to eat here just because I didn't feel relaxed. There were plenty of people here though, friendly and quirky. Just not a place for me.

This place intrigued me because of the name. And that it had themed rooms. It's a quirky little place. Plus they had a snoozing pooch at the bottom of the stairs, always a bonus.
I had a gin and tonic and a jacket potato with tuna - all delicious!
My partner had chicken and bacon loaded fries and chocolate milkshake - also delicious!
The staff were clearly very busy and it was quite a warm warm day, so added stress! But they were all happy and friendly.
The bill came to about £24, fairly reasonable and we got to read lots of awesome quotes on the walls too!

Wonderful little themed cafe. The staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. We sat in the music room which is on the first floor up the spiral staircase. The film room is on the second floor, along with the toilets. Enjoyed the food very much. A great place if you are looking for somewhere to get lunch. There was a sweet little dog asleep there too.

Superb food and interesting upstairs with music and film memorabilia. Had the cheese club sandwich and it was probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Rounded off with carrot cake and a black coffee, I couldn’t quite finish it! Food quality and presentation is superb and service excellent too. Nice clean toilet.

What a lovely, warm and welcoming little cafe this place is. Truly a hidden gem where the food and service are excellent even though I only popped in for a coffee and bacon sandwich (one of the best I've ever had).
Oh and REALLY doggy friendly as well. Pippin loved his sausage. 🐶
100% Reccomend.

Well found this wonderful place, yesterday on my trip, around York.
Wow, I decided to eat outside with it being such glorious weather.
It it was a delightful lunch, the service was first class. I was served like it made me feel so special.
High Recommend. 🏆

Absolutely beautiful soup. I've never had cauliflower soup before but I'd love to have this again. The accompanying ciabata was the perfect match.
The kids loved the extra special milkshakes with maltesers.
I loved the quirkiness of the building and have enjoyed reading about its history since. Definitely a hidden gem 😊

Looked for a little cafe and walked in here. Ordered two full English breakfasts. Absolutely spot on. Perfect. Enjoyed every mouthfull. Friendly, very efficient service. Would highly recommend.

On holiday in York so popped in here for lunch as it looked quant, the food was amazing and the staff were lovely. I'll be telling everyone back home to come here if they're ever in York, and I'll definitely come back when I'm next on my travels!

Very quirky. Fabric on the seats, black and purple walls. Very small and lots of stairs.... but we really liked it. Might as well be different.

We found this little gem of a place on Sunday. Staff were friendly and the place is quirky and nicely decorated. We just had drinks and they catered for the diary allegry in our party. We loved it so much we went back the next day and had sandwiches and a couple of desserts. The food was lovely and didn't take long. Would certainly come back here next time we visit york.

Eclectic and a wee bit crazy. This unique gem is worth a visit. Compact floor plan with an awesome spiral staircase set in an Tudor house. Great food and drinks in a great setting.

Great little place. We visit often & are always happy. Quirky, fun & friendly. Plus their resident dog Roxy is a lovely little pooch!

Love this place! So much character and everything I've had has been absolutely delicious, especially the hazelnut milkshake!

Great gluten free options, I emailed a head and the chef responded in regards to my query for cross contamination. Took my celiac daughter and she really enjoyed it, no issues after either. Will definitely be returning!

I popped into this lovely cafe and bistro the other day with a family member. We were struck by how wonderful and quirky the building was but also how friendly the staff were. We popped in for a steak burger meal, right at the end of the day and it was gorgeous! The gingerbread latte was incredible and it was so nice to sit out the front and watch the world go by. Thanks for being so accommodating, the food is gorgeous! Highly recommended 👌

Lovely quirky little cafe, we only popped in on the off chance and we are really glad we did! The filling are really generous, definitely value for money. The ladies that were serving were really nice. Thank you for making us feel welcome!

Really nice interior with relaxed vibe and two themed floors. To eat I had a smoked salmon and prawn salad which was really tasty with a generous serving. Friendly staff and good prices in lovely location :)

I came for the atmosphere but stayed for the amazing food. It has the vibe of your mother making you an amazing lunch, whilst also having the quality and presentation a high-street café. Comfy chairs, fun environments, and great value for money too!
I intended to get a small snack but my £6.50 sandwich came with salad, crips and delicious coleslaw (coming from someone who dislikes it usually)! I shall be satisfied til dinner :)

Great customer service, great vibe and music. Lovely food which was served quickly. Couldn’t ask for anymore

After a couple of tiring nights in hospital with my son we came here for a breakfast! It was amazing! The food was just perfect, the staff were lovely!! I really enjoyed it! Such a cosy little cafe. Will be coming back before I move, preferably with out my toddler faking that he needs the toilet to dart up the stairs all the time 🤣 I would reccomend to everyone to visit here!!!

Right in the centre of York, Sandwitches is a nice little cafe situated over 3 floors. Nicely themed and decorated.
The portion sizes are excellent, while the food is superb! All for a very reasonable price. Great friendly and welcoming staff. Not to mention the great background music.
Well worth a visit.

I love this place! Been here so many times through out the years I've been going to York. Took my mum ones and my sister another time. Been with friends numerous of times. I know it's been different owners on some of the times, but that dont make any difference I think. The staff there has always been soo nice and wonderful! I love the food they have too and how they present it.
The atmosphere in here is great!
This place also has it's own presence. Many of times when I have been I've felt the lady. Never seen her though. She means no harm, she just wants to let you know shes there.
The funniest thing was last time I visited with my friend. I'd just been for my latest tattoo and we decided to go here for our lunch. We must have been sat there for a bit over an hour. After enjoying the lunch which was super great, we stood up and to my surprise, the table next to us had the same rune as I just had imprinted on my wrist! The rune for strength!
I hope you too will have the same pleasant experience as what I have, coming to this little cute, over 3 levels, cafe to enjoy a lunch or a drink and to you the owners, you are all super great! I will be back many more times!
Love and light

Brilliant place. Had steak sandwiches, the steak melted in my mouth and to top it off the coleslaw, home made, was the best I've ever tasted. We loved the music and the place had a cool vibe. We will be back

P. L.

Lovely quirky cafe. Stopped by for a brew and some breakfast. People were lovely and very accommodating considering we had a lively 2 year old!
L. S.
Love this place! The staff are so friendly.
The best place to sit down and have a sandwich and coffee after walking around the market.

A great quirky gem of a café hidden in the Shambles of York. With great tasting sandwiches, friendly staff and a unique decor that keeps you occupied' I would've given Sandwitches 5 stars but for the access to the upper levels; the café is tiny and a full sized staircase would've taken up most of the space, so to reach the different levels you have to negotiate a narrow, metal spiral staircase... definitely not for the physically challenged, but I fully understand why it's needed.
The seating areas are tiny so only a handfull of seated customers can be catered for in this 14th century building, but it's a fascinating place and I enjoyed my visit 😊

This was a lovely hidden gem which has lovely food as well as being reasonably priced. The staff were amazing and catered to our needs - asked for an iced coffee which wasn't on the menu.

Popped in by chance as was peckish..Really cool vibe in the place lyrics from various music artists hand painted on walls .If your eating in you climb a spiral staircase to be seated.Really fantastic pot of tea and breakfast did the trick.Them girls got supernatural powers how they get up the staircase with the dishes witches indeed.
S. G.
Very nice and calm café with great music taste and great food. I loved the tee and the scones. I'm gladly come back.

A very unique cafe. Coffee is very good, and the food (many options) is always excellent. Very reasonably priced too, especially considering it's location.
