I'm so glad I embarked on this journey and I want to share my gratitude towards the Newham Talking Therapy team and specifically my therapist Ella. I love the fact that it wasn't a "passive" listening session, but a practical approach aimed at improving mental health on a daily basis, with very tangible techniques. The therapist was calm, understanding and supportive. I highly recommend this if you want to feel mentally healthy and improve your outlook on life!

I am so grateful to Anna for providing me with the tools and support I needed to tackle an issue I had for decades. My quality of life has improved significantly during therapy - the course was structured enough to work to an objective framework but flexible enough to allow sessions to be fluid when needed. I worked with the amazing, patient and knowledgeable Ilknur Sahin, and from the start felt better about my depression and my current state of being. She was professional and measured throughout, but never allowed me to be lazy, to lose track, or to give up.
The CBT skills I did with her were completely new to me, have honestly made a significant difference to my mental health, and I feel now I have a toolkit to proceed carefully into the future. I particularly appreciated practical exercises and resources she was able to explain, and then allow me to go away and try.
These have become part of my day-to-day life, and I do feel like their are the 'medicine' I need to carry on, where previously I felt there were brick walls all around me.
I liked very much that this was not just a 'listening' approach, but that Ms Sahin was able to prompt me, ask questions, and give me new ways of seeing things. I also really appreciate the idea that working on my own mental health should be a priority, and that if I don't do so regularly, my work and family life will not benefit from all the work I've done. It means I give myself permission to make space during family and work time to do exercises and tasks relating to my mental health without guilt. It is a long term investment in happiness and calm, in everything I do. That is so valuable in a personality like mine, where I have learned I'm always looking to measure value in everything I do. I've learned working on my mental health is extremely high in value, and should be prioritised.
I can't thank Ms Sahin enough, nor Newham Talking Therapies. The whole organisation approached me with care and attention, was quick and responsive, and organised. I could not recommend them highly enough to anyone with the levels of depression and anxiety I have experienced, and I suspect someone with more acute problems than I have. Thank you again.

My experience with Newham Talking Therapies was amazing! I was able to choose a therapist I would feel more comfortable with and when to have my sessions.
My therapist, Ken, was super professional, very kind and has helped me quite a lot in the short time he worked with me.
I really hope more people can use this service and that more money is directed to everyone’s mental health since not all os us can afford it.
The only thing I have to add is a request for email only contact since not everyone is available for a phone call to book that initial sessions. This would make life so much easier for your customers and therefore more people would be able to access it.

Thank you very much to Lee Williams and Newham Talking Therapies. Lee was an excellent therapist, he was empathetic, encouraging and provided me with many helpful tools and insights on how to deal with and improve my mood and long-term health condition. Lee made me feel at ease so I was able to talk about how I felt more easily than usual, my opinions were taken into account but also gently probed if they were unhelpful. Lee helped me see things in a different (more positive) way, including beliefs I had about myself. I always felt better after speaking to Lee and would highly recommend him.

I had the second time therapy with Dr. Belinda Begum. This time I felt so much more relaxed then the first session as she changes the translator which was very good this time and I could express my thoughts better then the first time. Plus she gave me home work and helped me a lot. I understand much better her question and speck more relaxing. This was my first experience with CBT, second of 'therapy'. I was assigned to Lexi (Alexandra Hristova - PWP manager) for 8 weeks.
I am really glad of what I have learnt with her in the process.
She takes time in explaining how negative thoughts come about, and walk you through tools, practices and plans and how to challenge them.
I enjoyed the fact that every session felt very human, down to earth and I felt listened to no matter how briefly. I can't take it for granted because they probably run over similar conversations over and over (a new acronym for PWP should definitely be People with Patience 🤣).
Also as a queer person I carry my reservations as a defense mechanism and although she didn't have to, there were subtle things Lexi did, maybe intentionally, that made me feel somewhat safe to speak to her.
I'd also like to commend the efforts of the admin team that works efficiently to accommodate first time phone screenings and arrangements for CBT consultations. Very well done.

An absolutely amazing service. I have just completed a number of weekly CBT sessions which has proved totally transformative to me personally. My therapist, Abbie was so professional, knowledgeable, and at the same time massively caring. During the past few months, she introduced me to tools and techniques to address a number of issues. I always felt part of the process and totally in control. Without exaggerating I can describe this journey as life-changing. Looking to the future, I’m very excited to see how the continued use of the skills that I’ve acquired will affect me.

Brilliant free service offered. Worth the wait on a very long waiting list. Perhaps should do more in terms of answering the phones a bit quicker and more efficiently. Should also respond to their emails as I was not met with a response for months. The service itself once you get treatment is brilliant - it’s just all the admin staff beforehand!

i joined newham talking therapies ahe next step in helping me through bereavement i have tried multiple different meds for depression and with no suitable/helpful effect and had gone to the drop in bereavement centre for help during this time which was helpful in its own way
covid struck and changed everything how we interact how people like myself had to sheild i imagine many know the drill. Im also extroverted so being isolated as a vulnerble person compunded my depression.
i asked for more help from the dr as i was having feelings that i shouldnt be here anymore. they recommend the talking therapies i self reffered and got a second refferal from my dr
it was ther that they diagnosed me with ptsd as well as depression and began working with me firts of all in a group then with (A) (i will used this to refrence throughout for data protection purposes) on a one to one bases.
this began with explaning what are the causes of ptsd what are the sympmtoms via diagrams etc . i was then asked to open up a bit more about what happended why i feel the way i do what are th eroot causes etc. every week i had questionaire to gauge my mood before the meeting
this meant we could work out what triggers eppisodes and emotional responses
we then used techniques from cbt to start takling the emotional and logical responses aas well as the physical ones we went through technicals breathing excercises to calm yourself and to relax your body before sleep trying to establish normallacy via activity diaries helping tto reorganise your ptsd spirals/tirggers by writing them down and reliving and trying to seperate them from the here and now. i also wrote a letter in regards to my trauma
i was also asked to look at what i was feeling from external propestives and people who might share mine aswell. i was asked to start writing a compassion diary taught was to do not overload myself or try to much and to be more realistic in my recovery and understand its a healing process it effects everyone differently.
all this and more was delivered with a patient nurturing understanding attitude while trying to teach the coping techniques i need to hopefully to return to the world when covid etc is over
for this service i am very grateful.and hope (A) knows i am glad to have been given help by her

However I was assigned to a therapist called Abbie who really helped me come to understand my anxiety and ways to manage it better. Last year I became very depressed. It took me a long time to understand that I was mentally unwell and not just “sad all the time” as I thought. I went to my doctor who refereed me to Newham Talking Therapies and it was the best thing that could have happened to me.
I’ve always been quite a strong and happy person and was very much of the opinion that you can just “pull yourself together”. Before going to Newham Talking Therapies I had tried making a routine, starting yoga, continued activities like climbing and dancing, and forced myself to see friends and go to work even though I didn’t want to leave my bed cocoon. When this didn’t “fix” me, I was so desperate and didn’t know where to turn. Newham Talking Therapies were fantastic.
The staff were amazing, and I was so impressed with how fast they contacted me after referal. They are non-judgemental, very welcoming, and the skills and tips they teach you will genuinely change your life. My first assessment phone call was such a relief that someone was taking this seriously and recognised that I had tried hard on my own, which was a good thing, but now it was time to accept a little extra help. At first I was sceptical about the CBT group sessions they assigned me to. I thought this couldn’t help me if I couldn’t help myself, but once I committed myself to the programme and carried out the suggested tasks and strategies, I quickly saw the improvements. It took a few months before I was “sub-clinical” in my depression symptoms. Now, although I have up and down days, I can continue to use the toolkit they gave me to keep getting better. I feel much more back to my old self now. I’m laughing more, looking forward to seeing friends, and am interested in my hobbies again. I felt before like I was walking around in a black cloud and I couldn’t get out, I would never feel happy again. There is hope if you also feel like this, keep pushing through and accept the excellent help of Newham Talking Therapies. I can’t recommend enough!

I had a very helpful CBT session with Ms. Ilkunr with her very motivated, wise and professional manner. The sessions were well-informed and structured. The whole session provided vital techniques that are meeting my needs. Was referred by my boyfriend who also used the service. Due to the current crisis, all interviews were done through telephone. The lady I spoke to (Paulina) was really kind and understanding. Found out that I only struggle with managing stress (which was in turn, triggered by covid and lockdown) Did a 5 week online group therapy course with Zoe who was really friendly and was available to talk to if we needed. Having the routine every week was very reassuring and she provided us alot of resources and techniques to manage stress! Even though my problems were not severe, they were still very helpful!
