Reviews of Urban Aerial Southampton
E. R.
I have been doing classes at urban for almost 4 months now. All of the instructors are absolutely amazing! They are so supportive and empowering. The other students are also supportive and nice and I have been able to make new friend's from my classes. The overall atmosphere is really positive in the studio. I have never regretted a lesson and always look forward to the next one 👏🏻 The lessons here are also amazing for improving health and fitness and you see clear progress week by week! ❤️

If you want to try something different in a safe, supportive and incredibly friendly place, Urban Aerial is the place to go. The classes are fun, safety is paramount and it's a great way to get fit. Love it ♥

I attended my first class at urban aerial just over 2 years ago and I soon became a regular, not only has my pole ability improved massively, but after attending the weekly stretch classes I've never been more flexible! Everyone who attends the classes are lovely and the instructors are always very supportive and encouraging. I was anxious when I first attended as I've previously been to some more cliquey pole studios but I had no need to be. Not only does urban aerial give you an amazing workout and help you build some incredible skills, but it's also a wonderful place to make new friends.
I was anxious on returning to classes after COVID but Charlie reassured me and has not let me down! She's constantly cleaning and has ensured that the studio is a safe space to train.

I've been going to classes at Urban Aerial for just over a month now and I love it! I've tried both aerial hoop and pole fitness and both classes are brilliant! The instructors are lovely and make sure that all levels in the class are catered for, and where I'm a complete beginner they're always hovering to offer help when I need it. The classes are a super supportive environment and really welcoming!
The studio is always clean and has good guidelines for social distancing and following covid guidelines. In class where its not possible to have your own bit of equipment (such as with hoop where you share with one other person) it's super easy to clean down in between each person and hasn't impacted the lesson at all. In pole you have your own pole each due to reduced class sizes for covid, and these are cleaned between lessons and we each clean our own pole ourselves too. Everyone is socially distanced and it's a really nice environment that even with the guidelines still feels like a normal class that hasn't been impacted too much.
Overall a really excellent studio that both clean and super friendly and welcoming! I'm looking forwards to all my future lessons and classes!

Since I started classes at Urban Aerial 2 years ago; I am noticeably stronger, fitter, more confident and my mental health has improved massively.
Charlie, Beccie and Claire are the most welcoming, friendliest instructors who really believe in everyone and help you progress so quickly. They are always there to help, even at open sessions. The students who attend the classes are also so friendly; it is like a big family where everyone is welcome.
The studio is really well presented, thoroughly cleaned after every lesson and spacious. There is always a wide range of different activities to try including pole, hoop, stretch, flying pole, silks and more.

A great friend of mine back in 2014, post break-up, asked me to join her in a new activity and I immediately said yes, despite knowing what it was. When she said pole dancing my mind was blown - I’ve done ballet all my life so the thought of this was way out of my comfort zone! But this is not what Urban Aerial is about; this is very much pole fitness focusing on strength, athleticism and stretch. What I didn’t realise is that I would find new strength, confidence and a great group of new friends.
Since my journey with Urban Aerial, I’ve trained at three different studios and all of them have been welcoming and friendly with a structured progression path and without a doubt the standard of cleanliness is phenomenal.
It’s safe to say I’m a curvy girl and very self conscious around lots of toned slender girls but not once in my time at Urban Aerial have I felt out of place for my shape or size or that any of the girls are judging. The owner, Charlie, has always been 100% supportive and encourages you to achieve your goals. As a teacher she is also brilliant at seeing people’s strengths and pushes you harder to achieve more, as well as commending you in front of others (actually the cheers of support are out of this world, and always backed up by fellow students in the room!). Likewise she will see where you need extra support or encouragement and will do so discreetly in order to progress in your pole journey.
I’ve not actually been to class for two years now (for personal reasons) but Charlie has continued to be a lovely friend, and is very supportive for me to come back to class without any pressure. The community within Urban Aerial is top notch and the commitment from all is something Charlie should be so proud of.
Seeing how everyone has rallied together after one unnamed negative review reminds me of why this is an amazing studio and community to be a part of. If anything this is the prompt to get me back to class ASAP! See you soon girlies xx

Urban Aerial is a wonderful place to be! All the instructors (Charlie, Becci and Claire) are welcoming and so supportive. I've been at Urban Aerial for around 2 years, it's done wonders for my mental and physical health. I couldn't ask for a better bunch of people to be around when trying something new and out of my comfort zone.
As for cleanliness, Charlie keeps her studio very clean. We are all encouraged to help with this and respect the space. Charlie has worked so hard to keep everyone safe when re-opening after lockdown, there are risk assessments, policies and procedures to ensure everyone who walks through the door is safe and welcome!
I am so grateful for Charlie, Becci and Claire!

I've been going to Urban Aerial for around 2 and a half years now after being at my previous school for 4 years (now closed down). Both schools i attended once a week but my improvement at urban aerial has been so much faster and I've gained so much strength and learned way more advanced moves. The two simply cant compare and that's down to the teaching of Charlie, Claire and Beccie, the encouragement of the class as a whole and the fantastic equipment the studio has which is the best I've seen from a pole school.
As I only attend once a week due to other commitments I'm in no way the most accomplished dancer in the class but every single member cheers me on when I achieve a move and everyone is judged on their own achievements and recognise when each other are doing well from beginners to the most advanced.

I've been attending Urban Aerial for 3 years now after attending another studio previously. It is the most fun exercise I have ever done. All the girls are so encouraging and friendly. The teachers are lovely, insanely talented and are always thinking of new tricks and combos for us to do. We're given cleaner for the poles and hoops to use between uses, and classes are small to encourage social distancing. I can't recommend them enough. The best remedy to de stress you after a long day at work 😊.

I've been going to the studio for about a year, as a beginner, and I've always found the classes to be really friendly and welcoming, with a really supportive atmosphere. The other students in the beginner class always talk to new people, and give them tips and advice, and the teachers are very good. I've never felt that the studio was unclean, they clearly clean it every day with disinfectant, and now with covid-19 they clean it between classes too. I feel pretty comfortable with the covid precautions.

Joining UA was one of the best decisions of 2019 for me!
As a complete novice to aerial hoop, I've never felt like this was a problem as all the instructors have been nothing but professional and so welcoming and supportive and that goes to the other students as well.
Each class is designed for the ability level of the students, and as a beginner although some moves are very tough to master (the instructors are always on hand to help you out tho) - once you nail it the feeling is euphoric. Hoop class is a highlight of my week!
Personally, I think it's v. important to keep challenging yourself and do things out of your comfort zone, so if you've been thinking about taking up hoop or pole then I would 100% recommend Urban Aerial! X

I haven't been here since the lockdown due to work commitments but felt I needed to review following on from the review below. I have been a regular here for a couple of years and even though I am an extremely anxious person, I have found them to be very welcoming. I have tried a number of pole studios over the past 10 years and this is by far the cleanest and most organised studio I have been to. I have witnessed the efforts that go into cleaning the studio before the lockdown so I have no doubt they would be working extremely hard to make sure the studio is safe for everyone. The teachers are well trained and the lessons are well planned. This is by far the best studio in the area - I wouldn't travel 20 miles to go there if it wasn't!

I have been poling for around 6 years and Urban Aerial is the 4th studio I've been to. I have been attending here for 2/3 years ish. In comparison to the other studios, it is definitely the most varied and has kept me motivated and progressing. Charlie and the girls really push us to do our best; all the trainers and other students are so supportive, as cringe as it sounds it really is one big family!
The reaction to COVID19 has been amazing; reduced class sizes and frequent cleaning regimes have made me feel 100% safe about going back to class. I cannot recommend UA enough ❤

I have been coming to UA for 2 years and its my second home! Charlie, Beccie and Claire are amazing instructors and make you feel so safe and supported. They have been diligent in ensuring the studio is safe in light of COVID19 and the other students who attend are the friendliest group of people that I have ever met - I would recommend everyone to come here if they want to try aerial sports!
G. W.
I absolutely love coming to UA. Everything about it is amazing. The instructors and members are absolutely lovely. I am always supported and cheered on! There are frequent social events outside of UA too. The studio is clean and looks nice. I have spent alot of time researching other hoop stuidios but UA is by far the cleanest and most modern. I always feel safe at UA. I would spend most evenings here if i could!

I started at Urban Aerial in January this year, starting with a year of experience. Charlie was so helpful and asked me about my previous experience before I attended any classes. I came along to a few beginner classes at first but was quickly allowed to progress to other lessons.
Because of Charlie's teaching and encouragement I'm the strongest I've ever been and my flexibility has improved so much. I now attend 5 classes a week because none of the lessons are the same and there's always something new to try!
Everyone's really helpful and always happy to spot you if you need it. There are never more than 3 to a pole and there are always at least two instructors to help cater to a range of skill levels.
I have no idea what studio this Charlie Marie has been to, but it's certainly not Urban Aerial!

I have been going to Urban Aerial since my previous pole school closed down about 4 months ago. Having experienced quite a few different pole schools (both good and bad) over the last 6 years, experiencing lessons in silks, pole, aerial hoop, stretch and gymnastics in that time, I would say that this one is definitely the best I've been to. The equipment is well maintained, they have excellent facilities (6 poles, plus a variety of hoops, a set of gymnastic rings, silks and trapeze), heating and the place is kept really clean and tidy. The space they occupy is small, but they deal with it really well and there is definitely enough room to move about freely in. The teachers are excellent. They are properly trained and quite evidently know what they are doing (as an ex school teacher, I don't appreciate bad teaching!) The lessons are well structured with a proper warm up and are well catered for all abilities. They are extremely welcoming and friendly and go out of your way to make sure that you are happy in what you are doing on your first lesson. As someone with social anxiety this is really important to me. I have learnt so much since I started at Urban Aerial and I cannot recommend them enough. I wouldn't travel 20 miles out of my way at least once a week if they were anything but brilliant!

I have been doing the beginners pole classes here for a couple of months. Charlie, Beccie and Claire are all super friendly, knowledgeable and really encouraging. They do an incredible job of making sure that you are constantly improving in the pole classes, and always provide different options for people at different levels within the class. The venue is perfect; it’s never overcrowded, there is a really nice atmosphere and it’s always easy to park.
The stretch class is also really friendly and it is already helping me to improve my flexibility, which I have previously struggled to make any progress with for years. I have just tried out the aerial circus fit class this evening, which was so much fun that I'm going to have to make it a regular thing as well.

I’ve been coming here for pole lessons for just over a year (not counting the months we had to stop for lockdown), and I love it! Having never done anything like this before I was really nervous before my first lesson, but I didn’t need to be - the instructors and all the other girls in class are so welcoming and supportive of you, no matter your level. At no point have I felt embarrassed or left out because I can’t do a particular move, but rather I’ve felt inspired and encouraged to get back up and try again. There’s a great variety to classes, and every lesson is different, but allows for progression week on week - and if I can’t do a move the instructors are always on hand to help or suggest modifications. I’m so glad I took the plunge to start coming to classes at UA, and cannot recommend it enough!

I have been attending urban for almost 2years now. I have previous experience in the pole world of 5 years before hand and iv never come across another pole school who is as professional friendly encouraging and like one big family. The support iv been given is not just on the pole but off the pole too! I was made to feel so welcome on my very first lesson with Charlie who then took time to find out the standard of pole I was at and to accommodate that into her lesson plans along with all the other girls! Iv had my confidence knocked on more then one occasion and Charlie along with the two other instructors have built me back up again with plenty of pushing and encouragement to get those moves I want to nail.
Lessons are normally 1-2 per pole with 6poles 3 of which are 45mm and the other 3 of 40mm! Charlie always has a lesson planned and lessons are never the same. We are always learning the new in move along with combos and strength training in order for us to nail them strength&power moves.
The two instructors are always hoping off the poles to spot and to give us little tips for certain moves -you never have to ask twice to be spotted! These girlies are brilliant!!
Anyone looking for a friendly professional passionate pole school to join then urban is the school for you!!

I've been attending Urban Aerial for over a year now.
I started with Aerial hoop in February last year and eventually came to pole classes in May 2016, attending 4 evenings a week. The owner and lead instructor Charlie is very skilled and experienced in pole, hoop and silks, regularly attending retreats/classes herself to further her knowledge.
When I decided to try pole she checked what my previous experience was (as I had attended another studio previously) and therefore allowed me to skip some of the beginner moves as she knew I had strength etc from hoop.
Charlie arranges for photo shoots twice a year so that students can show off what they have learnt. We have check lists of moves so we can work towards progressing our abilities (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and she checks off each move once we've learnt them and will show us variations to match our abilities.
Charlie has invested her hard earned money into improving our experiences as students by acquiring a new, bigger and move central studio, buying two new poles and employing two of her advanced students as instructors for beginner classes in order for students to have more one to one coaching and feedback.
Those who attend regularly have made friends with other students and the instructors, with occasional pole socials and even a secret Santa at Christmas.
Attending pole is the highlight of my week and I have made some great friends :)

GREAT LESSONS, AMAZING LOCATION AND FACILITIES AND A WONDERFUL TEACHER !!!!!
Where do I begin, I have been attending pole classes for 5/6 years with Charlie and it has be poletastic!!!
I remember being made welcome on my very first class never having done pole before, Charlie made me feel at ease and in no way self conscious! Her classes have done wonders for my confidence and she has always supported me through the levels. Her instructions are clear and she is always on the ground for support in the more trickier moves.
Urban Aerial is like an extended family and we always welcome new comers, some like me who have never done pole before and for people who are more experienced! The pole family is always there for support when life outside of Urban Aerial is tough, you will always leave with a smile on your face !
Urban Aerial offers alot of opportunities like great work shops with 'celebs' of the pole world, photo shoots and chances to try hoop, trapeze and silks!
Lesson are well planned and are never the same! We do strengthening lessons, combo, spinning routines, learn new tricks.... the list goes on! The warm ups are fun and are always different to ensure that we don't get injured while on the pole and there are 6 poles meaning you get plenty of time to practice!
I would recommend Charlie at Urban Aerial to anyone, even my mums been and loved it !!!
GREAT LESSONS, AMAZING LOCATION AND FACILITIES AND A WONDERFUL TEACHER !!!!!

I've been going to pole fitness at Urban Aerial since January and I absolutely love it there. I started it not knowing anyone there, but the instructors and the other girls are so friendly, I now go there and it feels like a group of friends.
There is never more than 3 to a pole so you get lots of time and opportunities to practice. When you struggle with anything or need a move repeating Charley, Becky or Claire are always happy to repeat something. They're always super encouraging, noticing when you've achieved something for the first time, and comparing to when you first started.
Couldn't recommend urban aerial enough!

I have been coming to Urban Aerial for over 2 years now, after I started pole at University. I initially went to a different studio in Southampton but after a bad experience I tried Urban Aerial and I have never looked back!
Charlie was extremely friendly and welcoming from day 1 and I was overwhelmed with how quickly I learnt new moves due to her fantastic teaching.
The lessons are always varied and planned out extremely well, I've been poling over 5 years in total and I still learn something new every week. We get the opportunity to have photoshoots and workshops with some great polers which is a great benefit, and we have even been on group trips to see pole performances as everyone is so friendly and we get on so well.
I have always raved about Urban Aerial so much so that my sister and several friends now come!
This pole school really is like a family, I look forward to coming every week and count some of the girls among my closest friends.
If anyone is considering trying out pole for the first time or is looking for a new school I would 100% recommend Urban Aerial!

I've been coming to this class now for 2 years and it is honestly the best thing I have ever signed up for. Not only have I improved my fitness level, toned up, lost weight and leant a new skill, I have also made some amazing friends. All the instructors teach at such a high standard of safety and support and really know what they are doing. The owner Charlie is so welcoming and informative, she really does care about every one of her students and the progress we all make. Thank you Charlie!

The most incredible place, the teachers (Beccie, Char and Claire) are the best in the business, so knowledgeable and help you grow and progress. Within six months I am able to do complex hoop moves and even started on pole! I could not thank the girls enough. On top of this the girls (and boys!) who attend urban aerial are the most supportive, friendly and welcoming. I remember my first session I was terrified and I felt at home within minuites! We all cheer each other on, catch each other when we fall (pre COVID!) and celebrate when a move is excecuted. I have made friends for life at urban aerial and cannot thank everyone enough for what they have done for me and my mental health. On top of this the studio is 10/10 clean, comfy and an amazing atmosphere. I would reccomend urban aerial to anyone!

Urban Aerial is a spacious purpose built city centre studio.
With 6 poles & aerial hoops.
The teachers are qualified, friendly & knowledgeable, they always plan new lesson plans weekly & were always learning lots of new tricks & combos.
I've been to lots of pole schools & urban aerial is definitely my favourite.
The vibe at this studio is so friendly it's my 2nd home!

Such a warm and welcoming studio! The studio is well equipped, clean and great care is taken to ensure the standards of safety and hygiene (both pre and post covid). The classes are friendly and super supportive, with instructors who are passionate about what they do- just love coming here!

I was very sad to the Charlie Marie's untrue review above. I have been pole dancing for years now and Urban Aerial is my fourth pole school and is by far the best. I have listed my reasons below:
1. Urban Aerial is a freindly, welcoming and supportive environment, we even call ourselves a pole family! The instrutors are extremely proffesional and talented and the girls are lovely. We always say how it is so nice to have no bitcheness as unfortunately it seems that is rare these days.
2. The quality and variety is the lessons plans are great. Charlie and the instructors have a lesson plan that they refer to. This includes a 10-15 warm up depending on what the focus of the lesson is. We must insure we warm up properly as you could injure yourself with the moves we do! Also warming up and stretching improves your flexibility which you need to make pole moves look great! We then do static moves, and combos. Charlie has themes for the months. This month is strength so we are focusing on conditioning (im genuinely feeling the benefits already). Other themes I can think of is Abs April, Handstand February, Chinese pole moves etc. So she also comes up with fresh new ideas all the time! She also covers what we have learnt previously so we can improve.
3. The studio is sooo nice! There are 6 poles with plenty of space. She also has 3 (maybe more) hoops, rings and silks, which she can move around the studio. There are never more than 3 girls to a pole. That is a perfect amount and I am speaking as an advanced pole dancer. She has two massive wall doors (that's the only way I can explain it) that open up so we can get a lovely breeze in the summer. As for central heating in the winter.. are you kidding.. if you warm up properly and pole you don't need no heating! Charlie does has heaters that she had from her previous studio if needed.
Overall urban Ariel is a fantastic pole school and I would highly recommend it! I am very suspicious of Charlie Marie's review as it is complete and utter rubbish and think it may be a competitor?? Come see for yourself and if you think my comments are untrue I'll refund you your money out of my own pocket!!
l. b.
The most friendly and professional studio I have attended. The instructors are really knowledgeable and welcoming and pitch the classes at the right level making them accessible to all. The studio has both 45mm and 40mm poles so perfect if you have tiny hands like me. By far the best studio in Southampton.
S. G.
Urban aerial is my favourite studio, I love the vibe here, everyone is so friendly & welcoming.
The studio is spacious & they never have more than 3 per like so you get lots of training time.
I love the classes here! ❤

Fantastic aerial studio! I've learnt so much coming here and my confidence in my abilities has rocketed! Perfect location, So much fun for all ages and abilities, super welcoming and lovely coaches and students!! ❤️

I've been going to pole and stretch classes at Urban Aerial for 6 months so far and I love it! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and I've learned so much from Charlie, Becky and Clare! I never thought I'd be able to do the splits but now I can, quicker than I thought possible!
M. S.
I've been going to Urban Aerial since 2017 and I absolutely love it, it feels like a 2nd home. Everyone is very friendly and supportive, and it has the best instructors! I would highly recommend :)
C. T.
Only tried this school once, and obviously everyone has different teaching styles etc. The teaching style as this school didn't suit me but this doesn't mean the teachers weren't good - it just wasn't my kinder style.
Overall, the school itself is behind the train station and the road are kinder dark - wouldn't recommend walking there. Quite a small school - but from my judgement everyone was friendly and to each other.
Shame the teaching style didn't suit me otherwise it would have been a fab school for me.
R. P.
I went here for a stretch class, everyone was so welcoming, friendly & the teachers very knowledgeable I would highly recommend.

Very knowledgeable instructors and very friendly atmosphere 😊 highly recommended!
