I’ve been going to this practice for a few years now. I finally decided to have some cosmetic dental work done on my teeth. It was quite a lot of work I had done. I have to say, from start to finish, Fraser was absolutely brilliant. Everything was planned out to make sure I was truly happy before we proceeded to the next stage. The difference in my smile is unreal! I am so glad I went ahead with the treatment, I no longer need to cover my mouth when I’m laughing and smiling. It has really boosted my confidence. After an unfortunate accident I was recommended this dentist practice by a friend. It has been the best recommendation anyone has given me. From first consultation through to a dental implant and post care everything has been honest giving me choices based on dental conditions /cost /future. And during treatment I've felt far more pain stubbing my toe than getting a screw in my jaw for an implant. I was going to say special thanks to Fraser (dentist), the dental nurses (I'm not a great patient) and the hygienists (who have got my teeth in amazing condition considering I hadn't seen a dentist in 10+yrs) and the reception staff (for working around my shifts) but I think that's the whole practice so, aye, I wholeheartedly recommend.

After many years of avoiding treatment due to a fear of needles and poor care at a previous dental practice, I plucked up the courage to seek help at Craigentinny Dental Care. I'm so glad I did. Miriam Figge is an incredible dentist. She always provides explanations for what she is doing, how it is going to feel and what I can expect . She discussed various treatment options so I could make an informed choice of how I wanted my dental treatment plan to go and always provided advice on aftercare that I should follow up at home. Miriam is professional, kind and considered my needs, for example by helping put me at ease when I become overwhelmed by my fear of needles. After six months, I have now finished all of my treatment and feel like I have a renewed sense of confidence. I feel really taken care of and very well looked after over the course of my treatment plan. I don't think anyone likes going to the dentist, but when you experience this level of first class service and care, it can make what is typically a stressful experience - especially for those who fear the dentist, significantly less so. Miriam is a credit to Craigentinny Dental Care and this review is to acknowledge her high levels of professionalism and exceptional standards. I have a real fear of the dentist and joined this practice a few months ago. Each time I go my husband comes with me ‘ just in case’. Dr Miriam Figge is wonderful and completely puts me at ease so much so I’m more than happy to go on my own now. I have never met anyone kinder, more gentle or professional. Having severe phobia of the dentist I was very scared to go. I had been to another practice before who said I needed a root canal and 2 more fillings. As I am cannot afford private care my options were limited. Miriam was absolutely amazing! Not only did I not need a root canal, I also ended up paying way less than I had been quoted by the other practice. Miriam and her lovely assistant walked me through my options and put me at ease throughout and didn't mind taking it very slow and at a pace I felt comfortable. She always assured me we would stop if I wanted to. I have been to a lot of dentists in my life but this is the first where the numbing injection was entirely pain free and I didn't feel a thing of the procedure even with a big deep filling! I've been a patient at Craigentinny Dental practice since around 1990 after many years avoiding dentistry following a botched wisdom tooth extraction in my youth. It's simply a fantastic practice, and often feels more like visiting friends than going to the dentist! Everyone, from the reception staff to the dentists go that extra mile to create a warm and welcoming environment. which goes a long way towards allaying any waiting-room anxiety. As for the treatment itself, it's always been first-rate and accompanied by a comprehensive explanation of what's involved. My husband and son both attend, and although we live more than 50 miles from the practice, we wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.

I have finished my treatment for now, and I can only say that it has been a life changing experience for me. I have only ever put a review on here once before when i first joined craigentinny practice but i felt i had to put up another review after my experience during lockdown. I have had ongoing issues with 2 teeth which started in March and i have probably seen more dentists during this time than ever before but i cant praise this place high enough. Thanks to Fraser and Elidi who helped me the best they could with what they were allowed to do at the time and bide me some more time until nhs dentistry can use drills again, and to finally have a filling replaced today was such a relief. I never had a phobia of the dentist and attended all my check-ups without any problems until more than a few bad experiences at my previous dental practice. I recently decided to register here after reading all the reviews. I've only attended 3 appointments so far and i can honestly say that Miriam is the best dentist ive ever had. I have been well looked after at each appointment with everything being explained to me beforehand and i can't praise Miriam enough. I have been a patient for about 12 years or more. Martin and Jill are my team and they are just the best! I have 100% faith I am in safe hands. On occasion I have seen other members of the team who have always been very courteous and you do feel very well looked after. The dental nurses (sorry are you still called that?!! Showing my age!) Are all great , so friendly and welcoming. And last but no means least and maybe the most important, the reception team, friendly, helpful and smiling... I have recently had resin bonding treatment done at Craigentinny Dental Care and I am really impressed with the final results. I've been putting up with bad teeth for years and Dr Booth has restored my confidence in my smile. The process was somewhat lengthy, as I went through teeth whitening first, but I was explained clearly at all times what each step entailed. The doctor-patient communication was excellent, Dr Booth was ometiculous and professional, and the products used seemed to be of high quality. Overall I feel I was looked after with great care.

If you have a fear of dentists, for whatever reason, this is the place to go. First, I highly recommend that you complete the Dental Fear Course online, and then pluck up the courage to phone for an appointment. Having not been to a dentist for six years, I was very nervous. However, I met with Fraser Hendrie, who was extremely understanding, and I now feel encouraged to take one step at a time to conquer my dental fear. From reading of other reviews, this seems to be a unique team of dentists, and I feel lucky to have found them.

I have been registered with this Dental Practice since 2008 during which time Fraser Hendrie and the team have re-established my confidence in dentistry, and helped me conquer all my fears. They manage anxiety by explaining everything and going at the pace that is best for you. The most important aspect for me is that they have done all they can to keep my dental health as good as it can be. I had braces fitted by John last April and had them removed after 4 months. To say I am happy is a masterpiece of understatement. John was very friendly and very professional throughout, explaining in detail what the process was and what was to be expected. I had clear braces fitted (I thought I was getting the steel ones!) and my friends and family didn't even notice them! I didn't realise how quick the process was going to be. Several months ago, I was referred to Craigentinny Dental Practice by my regular dentist for root canal treatment. I have a strong needle phobia and am a nervous dental patient, so this type of procedure would be almost impossible for my regular dentist (who is not a sedation specialist) to complete on me. From the moment I met Martin and his team, they put me at ease, and together we worked out a plan for the sedation and treatment that was safe, effective and minimised my anxieties. Martin talked me through a range of options, taking into consideration my specific needs (impact of sedation medications on breastfeeding, etc). On the day of the appointment, the team at Craigentinny were comforting, professional and efficient. My husband, who was accompanying me, was kept engaged and informed about the treatment and how to care for me afterward. My own experience of the treatment was limited to the initial sedation process (a drink-which dramatically reduced my nervous reaction to the needle), because (as hoped for) I felt no pain and have no memory of the actual procedure. After the procedure, the team at Craigentinny kept in touch to make sure the treatment was effective and my experience was good. I felt listened to and well cared for throughout the whole process. I cannot recommend Martin and his team highly enough, especially to patients with severe anxiety or phobias. The fact that I have no apprehension about returning for further treatment (this time for a cracked molar) says it all!

My mum recently had some cosmetic treatment from John to close gaps between her teeth and the results were amazing. The receptionists are so helpful and genuinely caring. I've had a few appoints over the years that they have managed to squeeze in and I've never been made to feel that it's too much trouble. It's a relaxed atmosphere, I've never been made to feel rushed. Callum is by far the best dentist I've had. I feel quite happy to attend appointments where previously I've been quite nervous : )

I honestly never write reviews but felt compelled to write about my experience at Craigentinny Dental Care. I highly recommend Fraser Hendrie and his team at this dental practice to anyone who has an absolute fear of going to the dentist. Due to very bad experiences with other dentists over the years, I was so frightened to go that I did not visit a dentist for over 10 years. In October, a tooth fracture left me no choice but to find a dentist. I reviewed many dental practices, as I was looking for one that would be understanding of extremely nervous patients and be non judgmental about my lack of recent dental care. I found this with Fraser and his team. I joined the nervous patient program and found this to be exactly what I needed; time taken to listen to my fears, understanding, EXCELLANT care, and compassion. Fraser has just completed a course of dental work to address my fractured tooth and my long overdue dental needs and I cannot believe the positive experience I have had in going to the dentist! I am now on my way to routine 6 monthly check ups, and feel very proud that I took the first steps and contacted this practice, and found a team who truly cared about me as an individual, and have helped me overcome my fears. My son, who has Moebius Syndrome, has always had to take extra special care of his teeth. Under the professional care of John Booth, he recommended at 13 yrs old that George should have a brace fitted. He had months of wearing a retainer to adjust his bottom jaw by 10mm before the train track brace was fitted. After a year and a half of careful maintenance, the brace was removed. His teeth were beautifully straight and white apart from a tiny mark on his front tooth (not caused by any decay but kind of like a birthmark but in his tooth). Obviously after such a long period of taking extra special care of his teeth, my son asked if there was anything that could be done to remove the mark. John took time to explain the options to my son and I and has just completed a procedure to remove the stain. My son is over the moon and I would just like to pass on my heart felt thanks to John Booth and his amazing team.

I had braces from July 2015 - March 2016 and was cared for by John throughout. I'm extremely happy with the results - I wish I'd done it years ago. I would absolutely recommend the practice and John in particular. He's really good at keeping me informed of what's happening, letting you make choices about your treatment and making sure you feel comfortable about the whole process so you don't feel nervous in anyway (actually they whole process was painless for me but I didn't know it was going to be at the start). There are many faces of dental fear, be it nervousness before an appointment or absolute terror and sickness at just a thought of the dentist (which was my starting point). I wished I could just say that they cured my fear forever, which is sadly not the truth and every visit still feels like a battle and with every step there is a new challenge, but that is not the point. The point is that facing a dentist can be such a vulnerable and uncomfortable place to be. It’s not just about fear but about shame, regret, social anxiety, feeling stupid and out of control.. who would enjoy that.. And you basically see people you don’t know at all and have to be open and honest about your fears (that maybe not even your closest loved ones know about) and their background and you temporarily put all your self worth into their hands in the hope that they would be kind and able to help you… So having a really safe dental place to deal with all of this is a great gift and can be life changing.. and this is exactly what Craigentinny is to me. I do not perceive them as a dental clinic but more as a house of kindness and care. All those moments of me acting like a child and feeling lost and they not even once did make me feel stupid or embarrassed. On the contrary, they are always supportive and respectful and make me feel like it’s ok to be struggling.. I remember dental treatment as something that is done to you by someone, but this is not how they work at all. It is more like a team work and being 100% supported at every step. And they do not treat your teeth, they treat you as a person and your anxiety is not seen as something that’s separate and a burden to the short term treatment but as something that deserves attention and a good approach in order for you to be able to cope with dental visits long term. I am seeing Fraser and he is just awesome.. it’s not only about putting me at ease through some kind words, it’s also about understanding the dynamics of fear and how to deal with it, finding out what works and what doesn’t and it is a kind of a step by step dental coaching. And the thing I am most grateful for is that he endures me at my worst and still allows me to come back. They also have this amazing e-course and ebook about beating dental fear and offer an email consultation which is a great start for anyone who is too scared to even get in touch with a dental practice (which was again my starting point). Honestly, if you have a deep dental anxiety or dental phobia, it won’t be easy or nice and you will have to bring up a good portion of will power and courage to solve the problem, but they are so supportive and amazingly experienced and put so much effort into helping nervous patients. I went to Craigentinny and have been looke after by Fraser Hendrix from the outset. I think time has flown; ( no looking back) I had once before been sedated to remove teeth; and Craigentinny was one of the few places I could find in Scotland specialising in nervous patients. Fraser looked after me he took me from being a patient that thought I needed to be sedated through to being fine sitting in the dental chair. I have had various dental treatments and have always been looked after with the upmost care. I developed a huge phobia about needles 26 years ago which meant that I avoided going to the dentist. Months became years and years became decades. Over 2 years ago I visited Craigentinny Dental when they had an open evening for nervous patients and shortly after that I plucked up the courage to have a check up. Needless to say after 26 years there was some work to be done! I had a few appointments with Alison the hygenist (who is absolutely lovely and puts you at ease) but ultimatley I knew that I had to have a few fillings and a few teeth extracted and that this would involve a needle. Fear took over once again and as I wasnt in any real pain I didnt return for nearly 2 years until finally last month I needed an emergency appointment for unbelievably painful toothache. I met John Booth who gave me antibiotics to clear the infection but we both accepted that ultimately the tooth had to come out. Today was D day and I was in a reasonable state of terror when I walked into the surgery. When my name was called I still wasnt convinced that I would be able to go through with it and rated it a 50/50 shot at best. John knew I didnt want him to describe everything he was doing as my plan was to shut my eyes and just remember to keep breathing slowly. Whilst I had said that I didnt want to be told when the injection was going in, I had a fair idea when it was about to happen but to my amazement I felt nothing whatsoever and I really mean nothing. A few minutes later after the numbing took effect he started the process of removal of the tooth. Now, it was uncomfortable at times and there is a fair amount of pressure exerted but I certainly wouldnt call it pain and before I knew it it was all over. My advice to anyone who is apprehensive, worried, scared or just plain terrified of dentists is to speak to the team at Craigentinny Dental. They are simply the best. I am a 46 year otherwise completely confident bloke who has spent a quarter of a century avoiding a day like today. To put it into perspective, when I phoned reception to make the appointment I could barely even speak on the phone. Now that the tooth is removed, I cant help wondering why it took me so long. To be honest I wanted to hug both John and Robyn the nurse at the end but thought a good review on this site would be more beneficial :-) I have more work to be done but now that I have crossed this first hurdle I am sure it will become easier and easier to deal with. It;s unlikely that I will ever look forward to visiting the dentist but the support they give you makes the process a lot more than just bearable.

I am pretty good at "feeling the fear and doing it anyway" but my achilles heel is dentistry - there cannot be many folk who were more afraid of the dentist that I was until I found this brilliant practice. After much research following a traumatising series of treatments in another practice I finally found John at Craigentinny and he has helped me over the last few years to face dentistry in a much calmer, rational state. Just today (18/4/2013) I had to get a broken tooth refilled and so had worked myself up into a bit of a state although still nowhere near previously. John recognised my state and immediately put my mind at rest. He explained what was going to happen and spoke to me throughout the whole session - frequently stopping to check with me. I settled down and whilst still a wee bit apprehensive I certainly did not experience any of the hardcore terror I have had with other dentists. The two dental nurses who were in the room with me were fantastic too - supportive but not condescending. I strongly recommend this practice if you have ANY issues with dentistry and as a reformed dentist-phobe I have no hesitation in saying you can trust John and his staff to look after you. I may never look forward to dentistry but I truly no longer dread them and you could do no better than going to this practice where ALL the staff are brilliant from the receptionists through to the man with the drill.

I chose to register with Craigentinny based on good feedback I had seen elsewhere and after reviewing the wealth of information available on their website. I am delighted to say that I have not been disappointed. From the first consultation onwards I have been treated in a friendly, relaxed, non-judgemental and above all professional manner. Having since met many of the staff and attended frequently over the last eight months I can see that what I have experienced is very much the culture of the practice. As someone with bad memories of painful injections during childhood, it has been a huge relief to find that when an injection has been necessary it has been entirely pain free. There is a thorny bush in my back garden that I fear more ! What a difference it is to receive an injection that saves me from the possibility of pain rather than one that creates it as always happened to me in the past. And, as mentioned on the website, there is often no need for an injection at all. Each step of any treatment to be undertaken has been explained to me in advance and they always take time to check how I am as they go along. Where any kind of ‘at home’ care has been required, I have been supplied with clear and comprehensive ‘do’s and don’ts’, no guesswork or googling required. My early treatments gave me the confidence to undergo cosmetic work including the fitment of a fixed wire on my upper front teeth, an Inman Aligner on the bottom row and subsequent whitening. I consider the cost involved to represent excellent value for money given the level of care and attention provided throughout the process. The transformation in the appearance of my teeth has been enormous and is a testament to the abilities of all those who have helped me since joining the practice. It is very comforting to know that under the Maintenance Plan I receive regular check ups and I am very confident that above all my dental health is of paramount importance to the Craigentinny team.
