While they're always busy, I've had great care from Penrose. In particular, Fatima Adio (Practice Nurse) is really informative and helpful - thank you for your care. Elephant and Castle (where the surgery is located) is currently a very over-subscribed place due to all the new builds and residents, so they're doing an excellent job in servicing the community.

The receptionist was very caring and sensitive when I contacted them to make an appointment for a mental health related issue. She took the time to make sure I was okay and made sure to ask the right questions before ending the call. It’s practically impossible to get an appointment, they are so fully booked most of the time. They keep messing up bookings, registering a wrong date, blaming their error on me, making me wait 3 weeks more.
The surgery is usually unreachable over the phone - I usually end up waiting for over half an hour in the queue with no one picking up the phone.
While I have had pleasant experience with the doctors themselves once I get an appointment, getting one is so difficult and the reception feels so unhelpful, that I would switch anytime to a different GP service even if they were worse doctors, if they were at least willing to talk to me. There’s no point having a good doctor if you are never able to have an appointment.
Also their open hours are sometimes a bit of a lie, I have definitely seen the surgery already closed at 17:45 on day when they were supposed be open until 18:30 (I walked there when I was completely unable to reach them through phone after being on the line for over an hour and didn’t get an answer to an email either)

I really appreciate this surgery. All the staff are always friendly and helpful. They are always great reminding me of any appointments I need or if I need any kind of tests. All the doctors are fantastic and understanding, my favourite is Dr Kokri, he is so patient, professional and sympathetic to my needs.

I have had to 2 Gp consultations over the last month.
Both consultations was with Dr Charlie Allen.
I would like to share my invaluable and appreciative experience.
Both my encounters with Dr Allen has been met with understanding, sensitivity and a genuine care and concern for what I was experiencing both physically and emotionally. I have to say that I have never encountered such an experience with a medical professional in all my life.
Dr Allen listened to my concerns, validated what I was experiencing and provided me with a wealth of understanding pertaining to my medical condition. He ensured that I understood my diagnosis and provided me with additional information to enhance my understanding of my conditions.
It was very clear that he held a wealth of specialist knowledge of my condition but still made no preconceived assumptions about what I was experiencing and responded to my condition as an individual.
In both my telephone consultations I was left extremely surprised and dumbfounded about the positive experiences I had experienced.
I am so grateful for his advise, understanding and amazing approach which clearly evidences his passion for his work and commitment to do what’s in the best interest of his patients and beyond.
Thank you so Dr Allen, you are truly one in a million.

The Penrose Surgery has been one of the best GP practices I’ve been registered with in the UK. I’ve been registered with them for over 2 years and the staff including receptionists, nurses and doctors have been very respectful and caring with myself and my family.
Over the lockdown period they were very helpful in ensuring that my mum - who was shielding due to her age and temporarily staying with me - would have access to her repeated prescriptions and would get vaccinated.
Today, I had an appointment with Dr Charlie Allen, who listened to my concerns, did some tests and carefully explained aspects of my long term condition as well as gave me clear guidance about the treatment required. Differently from experiences that I had in other practices, I did feel that he cared about my problem, was not in a rush, was very knowledgeable and was keen to help me.
The problem with this practice is that you can rarely get an appointment with a GP earlier than in 4 week’s time from the date you request the appointment. Because of that, once they told me to go to A&E instead of going to the practice and another time I decided to go to a private consultant in order to be seen faster. I hope this issue is only due to the pandemic and things improve when the lockdown is over.

Updated review: the Patient Care manager got back to me after the really bad experience I had with an extremely rude receptionist, she was very attentive, the next day they got on the phone the receptionist with a Spanish accent who's lovely.
All that needs to be done is fixing that rude receptionist that spoils the whole good experience that Penrose surgery can provide!

Receptionist is extremely rude and unhelpful. She made a mistake and when I asked her about it she just hung up the phone.
Update: the care manager actually contacted me and said they listened to the recording of my call, apologised and said that the receptionist will receive more training. I'm quite impressed how they dealt with this incident.

Just visited PenroseMaddock Way Surgery. I was so impressed by the job being done in the Surgery by the team. Especially the Reception. It was like in and out. No wasting time, provided you are punctual with your time. A very good experience I had with my Flu Jab. I rate the team Very High.

The covid safety steps were very clear and concise within the surgery (Maddock way Site)and gave me a good sense of security with the measures being taken I waited aporox 5 mins for the practice nurse after checking in for my 9 am appointment and was done within half an hour. I just sadly left this surgery because I moved house. I found the care I received at this practice, especially from Fatima the nurse and the reception staff was fantastic and professional. We got to know each other well and I was able to get through on the phone and they were always trying to help and were friendly. Sad that this isn't the case in other GPs across London.

Very clean and tidy, very helpful too, send you a reminder so that you don't miss your appointment and have an online service so you can book your appointments online. My only fault is they take forever to answer the phone! Beside that very good service, Doctors you can talk to about anything and they make you feel very comfortable.

This place is the worst surgery I've ever been they are rude, impatient, judgmental they never speak to you with respect,changes have happened in the surgery and they never relay the changes in an appropriate manner. When people come to the GP we expect to be treated with respect I have had 3 incidents in this surgery that I have never had in any other Surgery I don't feel safe around the people with my information my body and my children's anymore. There is this one particular person in there he is a very big guy I think he is Indian rides a motorcycle, the moment you go into the room with this guy you will feel uneasy he is not friendly he is not polite very harsh when examining you. And the black receptionist is rude from the 1st day I registered there not helpful at all. I've been with them long enough because it was convenient. I'm officially done convenient isn't enough anymore for me to stay there horrible place horrible staff just plain horrible. Good bye Penrose surgery, ✋🏾
