After years of waiting for NHS hernia surgery, I found The Oxford Hernia Clinic online. The service and attention to detail was excellent from the outset. After making an appointment Greg called to run through a few details and explain the timescales and what to expect from the procedure. On the day of arrival, everything ran very smoothly. The nurses were friendly, kind and knowledgeable. Greg introduced himself prior to the procedure and made me feel really at ease. He ran through the detail of the surgery again and was happy to answer any questions I had. I was in and out of the building all-in within about two hours. The site of the surgery was very clean and neat once the dressings came off. It didn’t take long to recover from the surgery. I can recommend Greg and the team highly. My only regret is not finding them sooner.

Dear Greg what can i say Amazing . From the beginning speaking to Leslie such a lovely caring manner running through all the general information. After your initial call pre operation i was so impressed how at ease i was left, totally relaxed .I new then i had made the right choice choosing the Oxford hernia centre. On the day of the operation meeting you in person for the first time. I felt i had known you for ever explaining every aspect to me in detail in such a relaxed way. Minutes later being introduced to your wonderful team any doubts i had were gone. The whole experience was so streamline relaxing and efficient . 1 1/2 Hrs after walking in the the hospital door i am having a cup of tea and biscuits ready to go home. Its now 2 weeks post op. Had Hernia Op on Friday. I suffer with bad health Anxiety, so as you can imagine I was a little nervous. Once I met the team, I felt far more comfortable. Greg makes you feel very relaxed, explains everything thoroughly from start to finish, this is also backed up with a well detailed information booklet. Currently in some discomfort, but certainly bearable at the moment. I would advise to not move about much within 1st few days as I found moving about to be quite painful. I had a recurrent inguinal hernia that was becoming more serious. With little prospect of NHS treatment, my wife found Oxford Hernia Clinic on line and I booked in for treatment. At every stage of the process I found the clinic team highly professional and caring. The procedure was fully explained and went as expected, although the repair was not straightforward. Mr Sadler kept me under observation after the operation, checking that I was OK until late into the evening. After deciding to finally get my umbilical hernia sorted I turned to Google to look for a private clinic, didn't even try NHS as expected 2/3/4 year wait in current climate. Luckily I'm in a position to be able to afford the private treatment (but also like the best price £1990 and service) I Found Oxford Hernia Clinic offered both of these. Greg and his team provided a 5 star service from start to finish. The procedure was very quick and I was in and out in under 1.5 hours. First 3 days were sore but after that my recovery was swift,, by day 4 I was out for a 2 mile walk and by day 7 back in the gym for light work. 2 weeks later I was running on tread mill and wound had healed excellent. 3/4 weeks back to normal and forgot I ever had the big belly button hernia. If your looking to go private stop searching and get in touch with the Oxford Hernia Clinic 👍

Can't recommend Greg and his team highly enough. I delayed having the procedure over fears about complications after surgery having read some horror stories. After discussing Bassini vs mesh repair at length (Greg was very patient and explained pros/cons to each) I went with the Bassini (non-mesh) repair. The recovery was very much as Greg had told me it would be, I had two weeks off work, but the return to normal activity (sports, lifting etc) after that was smooth and results a year later are excellent.

Having lived with an umbilical hernia for some years and told by my Gp that the NHS don't do the operation anymore unless you're a key worker I decided to go private. Best money I've ever spent on myself. Booked in at the Oxford Hernia Clinic and the experience was like clockwork. Instant reply to my email and then given a firm date. My Surgeon Mr Sadler phoned me and talked me through the procedure and answered all my questions. As I had a local anaesthetic from arrival at the clinic to walking out was 100 minutes! My advice if you're thinking of having your hernia repaired, is don't delay and use Oxford Hernia Clinic.

It's now 3 weeks since my left side Inguinal Hernia repair was carried out by Greg and his team and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Like others I could see little prospect of getting my Hernia fixed under the NHS unless it became strangulated and life threatening. Being of the cautious and mistrusting nature, between making the initial enquiry with Lesley and arrival on the day of the op I constantly asked myself whether I was doing the right thing in not waiting for the our wonderful NHS to get around to me. Like others have posted the whole procedure from first speaking with Lesley to make the appointment, to having the the operation then leaving to travel home couldn't have been more streamlined , professional and in my case, almost completely pain free. Came across Oxford Hernia Clinic in the search for inguinal hernia surgery under local anaesthetic. Other clinics I made enquiries with seemed pretty keen to avoid local. Having read through all the information on OHC website I was convinced that I wanted my surgery here. I have worked in and around operating theatres for 40 years and all the hernia repairs I saw were almost always done under general. Some of my colleagues even advised me to avoid local anaesthesia because I would experience pain during surgery. Glad I didn’t listen. Everyone involved in OHC was absolutely fantastic. From admission to standing back out in the hospital reception ready to go home took approximately 1.5 hours. Procedure was pain free and I had a really pleasant snooze courtesy of a dash of Propofol. Wide awake afterwards and pain free for quite a long car journey home to Derbyshire. I remained pain free until the early hours of the morning. I had a couple of days discomfort controlled by ibuprofen and paracetamol and now three weeks in I have been back at work for more than a week. I have to remind myself to still take things easy because I am now pain free apart from the odd twinge if I accidentally overstretch myself. Hope this helps anyone please struggling with a decision. I cannot fault anything about OHC.

Early in in 2021 I developed an Inguinal hernia and waited months for an NHS appointment. As things are with long waiting lists I felt that as I am getting on for 80 years age I would be letting myself down if I did not get a fix in good time. I contacted the Oxford Hernia Clinic and the apology came we can't fix it for 6 weeks, that was good news having waited 8 months and with a projected wait of a further 4 months. I have to say that I was well looked after at the end of November. I arrived at 9 a.m. for the procedure and very impressed already before time by Mr Greg Saddler's attention to detail. His team of nurses and clinicians were really good and the process was one of military precision, no messing here. No delays or irritation, before I knew it the procedure was done and I was back in recovery feeling very perky. Now weeks later I am recovering at speed paying attention to the notes that really do guide one through the recovery period. In the past I have unfortunately been subjected to a general surgeon who did not know what he was about and I did not want a repeat. Greg Saddler is the man for the job, he specialises in this type of surgery.

I was provided with plenty of helpful pre-op advice and booking my appointment via Lesley Howard was extremely easy. She kindly answered all my initial questions and replied very promptly to emails. On the day of the operation the whole procedure from the time I arrived to departing an hour and a half later was exactly as I had been led to expect with very friendly nursing staff alongside Mark Stoneham, the Anaesthetist and of course Greg Sadler as the Surgeon. My recovery is on track as described after 10 days and I never need to use the stronger pain killers! I've been a nurse for 28 yrs, I work at a different hospital, doing similar surgeries but chose this one due to what I'd heard. The service in every possible way was incredible. Greg is a very good surgeon but more than that a great person. I know a lot of surgeons. He is in the very top of that group. All of the team are excellent too. Mr Sadler and his team at the Oxford Hernia Clinic are professional and friendly and do everything they can to put you at your ease. I was in and out within one and a half hours. The operation is quick and painless. Speaking for myself my recovery was very painful and I had complications that required hospital treatment but I was just unlucky and I am sure that the majority of patients have a better outcome. After three months I am still sore and still suffer sharp pain, so at the moment I am still no better off than before surgery but hopefully things will improve. I would say that if you can manage your hernia without resorting to surgery please try, that’s the path that I would take if I got another hernia.

I had a hernia repair by Greg Sadler and his team at the beginning of the new year. I liked the fact that I could choose the type of repair I could have and decided a mesh free repair was right for me. The operation was carried out during the coronavirus pandemic. Greg was very communicative from the moment I contacted the clinic to find out about the surgery, in the lead up to and post surgery. I really appreciated having the contact, being able to ask about anything as well as being able to contact Greg and ask a question post surgery about my recovery. The hospital staff were very welcoming, carrying out the Covid19 checks prior to booking me in. They put me at ease and made sure I was safe in the current environment. The cleaners had kept the whole site looking fantastically clean which is always reassuring, particularly now. Greg talked to me before and after the operation and the nurse that gave me my post operation checks before walking me to the car had a particularly carrying way about him. Assuming short waiting lists were a ' given' my two bullets were: 1) personal down time. i.e time in hospital/clinic 2) value proposition Its now a month since my op' so I can now say with a high confidence level that ' in my opinion' Greg and his team operate perhaps the best facility and process available for hernia repair, particularly for self funding clients. Apart from the obvious surgical skills, transparent and detailed information is at the centre of their client engagement and care both pre and post surgery. It's nice to know that the team has been practising on all those previous hernia patients before they get to you and the result was (for me) no pain and less fuss. Convenience, expertise, value, and quick access are key to sourcing hernia repair surgery. Many private health providers are reluctant to reveal charges. Their surgeons have limited experience and expertise in hernia surgery. OHC was open on cost with the best price for my hernias. Mr. Sadler’s team has a wealth of expertise and experience. My appointment was made in just over 2 weeks. OHC offers a comprehensive service without any compromise on quality. The surgery was very relaxed with my free exchange of conversation with nurses, surgeon, and anaesthetist. The whole process from 09-30 ended when I was in the recovery lounge at 11-05. Mr. Sadler visited me in the recovery lounge to ensure my wellbeing. At 12-00 I was on my journey back to Merseyside The minor discomfort experienced for 2 or 3 days was of no consequence. I exercised some caution before resuming driving after 10 days. It is the ultimate commendation that my hernia surgery at Oxford Hernia Clinic was not unpleasant.

So much safer, faster and cheaper doing the operation under local anaesthetic. Wonderful service, in and out in no time. No problems (not even any pain) afterwards. No stitches to remove. Reassuring having a (low) fixed price. Wish I had gone there sooner instead of struggling with the NHS, who wanted to use general anaesthetic, and keep me waiting of course. Used public transport from London there and back, but I don't recommend the coach to get there even though it stops nearby - too slow and unreliable. Tiny criticism - the procedure for registering when you arrive at the hospital could be clearer and more efficient.

Excellent from admin to nurses to the surgeon. A very pleasant experience considering I’ve never had surgery before. The price was way lower than any other quote and also it was very no nonsense. Unlike the other quotes they didn’t require scans/ultra sound. A previous surgeons letter otherwise I would of needed a pre op consultation, a COVID test and at all extra cost. In my opinion, no one else comes close when it comes to this type of surgery. To be walking out within 30 minutes of surgery and jumping-not literally, on a train home seems impossible. An NHS nurse I was speaking to a few weeks afterwards, genuinely thought I was telling her porkies about the whole operation experience. Thanks guys, because 6 weeks later I was passing an employment medical exam!

I am very pleased with the Oxford Hernia Clinic. A very efficient, freindly team, fixed price and quick surgery using a local anaesthetic. I had a tangerine sized umbilical hernia repaired, (which is not available on the NHS from my local GP). I was in and out within 2 hours. Dr. Greg Sadler is simply amazing, i was back to work in three days, and now on the third week i almost pain free, the staff at the clinic were very kind and helpful and I was taken care with the utmost respect and kindness. I was particularly concerned because an acquaintance had terrible pain after his surgery and discomfort for months. After some reading from various sources, I concluded that the best method was open mesh repair using open surgery without staples or stitches (using pro-grip mesh), and I am not aware that this is currently possible on the NHS. Also, I was fairly inactive in the last month before the surgery, so by saving probably three months waiting time I gained three months of active life. Everything on the day of the procedure and most things after went exactly as described. In particular, I was sceptical that the sedative would stop the pain from the injections without making me sick, but it did.

Choosing where to have a hernia fixed is a big decision. I’m glad I chose this option. Mr Sadler is the most experienced hernia specialist in the UK (his nurse joked he can do them with his eyes closed) and his team are friendly and very professional. I was in and out in 2 hours but nothing felt rushed. Just very organised and planned to perfection. The days post op were exactly as described. 3 weeks later and everything is on track.
