John's teaching methods are no-fuss and well explained, but he never stuck to one thing in one lesson as to not let them get boring. Great instructor with a relaxed and low stress approach. Lots of acronyms to help with learning the manoeuvres which makes it a lot more simple to understand. I had been driving with parents over lockdown and picked up LOTS of bad habits, but over the course of 2 weeks and a few lessons with John i passed my test (Bury) with only 3 minors!

John is a great driving instructor! The approach he takes in his lessons are brilliant, he makes you feel very comfortable and at ease. John always likes to have a laugh in the lessons, which in my opinion helps with the learning process. The way John teaches is very clear and understandable, explaining everything calmly and if you don't understand something, he will always try to explain it in a way that you can. I passed first time and in a good amount of time. The value for money is amazing and you don't get encouraged to do more lessons than you need just for the extra money. A good driving instructor isn't just about teaching you to pass the test but about making you a good driver and preparing you for all sorts of hazards and situations. John is the man for this. Not only does he make a confident driver out of someone with massive test fears (like me) but makes each lesson fun, full of learning and building on confidence. He was full of reassurance and came up with many helpful ways to get my head around those roundabouts! And bundles of patience to deal with some of my occasional daft question moments too! John is thorough and carefully takes you through scenarios and elements that may happen or you’ve done wrong to improve next time. Passed my driving test the first time, despite being so nervous and lacking self confidence and I can only put it down to John's excellent teaching and coaching! The lessons always had a light tone, but at the same time educating, I never felt anxious and always have been amazed how John never loses his cool, no matter how many or how silly the mistakes I made. The next day after passing my test I can truly drive on my own confidently and without worry that there is something I cannot deal with and is all due to the top marks teaching and advice I received during lessons. Having not had a particularly illustrious history when it came to driving tests (eight failures with a previous instructor), I was a little nervous starting to learn again after a decade of avoiding having to try. John soon calmed me down with a friendly unflappable manner and an endless supply of patience for the inevitable daft incidents. The car is nice to drive being quite boxy, you've got great visibility and headroom yet its really compact (so easy to park), much better than having to shoehorn yourself into a pokey supermini. I passed with only three minors, if he can get me to pass – he can teach anyone!

John did what I once thought was impossible: he got me the point where I could pass my driving test. I'd had some bad experiences in the past - some quite distant, others less so - and they had made me even more anxious than I otherwise would have been. This was going to be my last attempt, and John didn't let me down. Unlike other instructors, at no point did John ever lose his temper or admonish me for something I'd done wrong. He is as a teacher should be: calm, patient, and always gives encouragement (and it was needed) rather than criticism. Not only that but he is a fine gentleman, always upbeat and talkative, and a real character to boot. I will miss him. And indeed that sexy green Kia! I was a returning learner (after a 6-7 year gap of no lessons) and was really pleased at how welcoming and enthusiastic John was during my lessons.Without a doubt I can honestly say that John teaches you to be a BETTER driver than is needed to simply "pass your test" - this experience and level of insight in to driving made every lesson informative and fun, it was something I looked forward to every week.With John's method of teaching, I passed first time with a mere 5 minor faults!
