Reviews of Marble Factory
J. C.
Having an accessibility ticket , there were 2 queues which made it a lot easier.
Staff and security were friendly and did a great job accommodating those in the accessible area, which viewing was to the side of the stage. The prices were reasonable at the bar, compared to London, no onsite parking, but Taxi or a short walk from station.
Great little venue 👍
D. O. S.
The Marble Factory, formerly the gas works but becoming a ceramic producer in 1959 after a planning application was approved for changes to the building for The Marble Mosaic Company, is now (pitifully) one of Bristol's best gig venues. I say this with a heavy heart though - I've lamented the lack of quality gig space in this city for over a decade now. When I decried how poor SWX was over a year ago now I didn't realise a fire would close it down soon after so now we're left with the 02 (capacity is 1600 at a push but you can park in Trenchard and it is actually in the city). When you think about big acts, they end up either on the Downs or further afield (Massive Attack played the old Filton Airport hanger!). Anyhows, back to the barn that's Motion (on the factory site) that now homes mostly gigs for up to 550 (yes - it's quite small but it's not cosy). I love live music but I'm an audiophile too and spend rude amounts of money on ensuring I hear music as the engineer intended in my own home, and the sound at this gig tonight ranks 2nd worse in my all-time list of shockingly bad sound systems at concerts. And I'm not alone - the reviews here and in other places are littered with this complaint. Bands don't practise playing at these abstracted levels and most fans don't listen like that either - most want the loudness but would prefer the musicality over being made to feel nauseous or the need to reach for the ear plugs. I've got Yard Act lined up for Nov here but am thinking of traveling now to avoid the distortion. If the engineers want some advice - I'd be happy to help. Other stuff is less important. Drinks expensive? Try London. Parking difficult? Get the train or walk into the centre, it's only a 10 minute walk. Too cold? Try SWX in the summer - oh, hold on... It was good to see Dry Cleaning but they sounded dreadful so I can't 5 star this review even though I love what they're doing right now.
S. W.
Awesome venue, first time here, Osees gig. Loved the vibe, friendly staff and security, decent beer, obviously the band blew the roof off, so glad they switched from SWX.
S. J.
First time at this venue great night watching The Coral on the 20th Anniversary of their debut album. Plenty from the album plus new songs and lots of classics from their extensive catalogue.
c. d.
First time at the Marble factory to see Jarv Is. Really liked the venue as it felt open and airy and not hot unlike many indoor concert venues. Would much rather attend a gig here than the O2 in Bristol, and surprised more bands don't choose this venue to play. Only downside is location, as a bit out of town and not great for parking. Otherwise 👍
R. K.
Great 1,500 so so capacity industrial venue. Quick service at the bar, intimate size - raised areas at first floor provide an opportunity to get very close. Good sound system. Will definitely keep an eye out for other gigs here.
A. L.
If you like your gigs in venues with plush seats, shining chrome and big screens, this probably isn't for you.
If you prefer to be closer to the roots of rock and roll gigs - exposed metal work, standing only and temperatures guaranteed to make you sweat - you'll love the Marble Factory! The only thing "non-traditional" is that all the staff ans Security I came across were polite, friendly and efficient!
Great gig venue!
N. D.
A great live music venue.
Large outside courtyard with bench seating and bars covered with canopy.
Inside high ceiling and large floor area make for a great viewing area for live music.
Above is a large balcony with a standing area around three sides of the floor
A good size stage and good sound quality
D. C.
Went with my son to see Bad Religion after it was rescheduled from the O2. Never been here before but have to say it was a better venue than expected. Stood on the balcony and had a great view of the stage. Sound system was very good. Plenty of bars, shame no beer on tap only cans and pricey but then no more than other venues. Also very hot inside. No car parks nearby but managed to park easily for free in the road opposite the venue. Over all it was a great night.
A. S.
Cosy atmosphere. It is rather small venue and stage is always not far away, doesn't matter where you stand. Balcony helps too with great view on the stage. Cons: terrible acoustics and awkward for parking. Entrance queue can be quite long but moves very quickly, so don't worry when arriving:).
C. g.
Great venue, queue moved swiftly once doors open. Be aware, you MUST have either proof of double vaccination or a negative lateral flow test to enter the venue. People left the line because they didn't have it. Great sound and view from balcony. Will definitely be back!
D. K.
Good size venue with now fully insulated roof that helps keep the warmth inside. Bar is not accepting cash so bear that in mind. Good selection of local craft beer.
M. A.
I've been multiple times before now - Beabadoobee and Boston Manor, and genuinely in terms of atmosphere one of the best small venues I've ever been to. Mixing has always been off for shows though, vocals have never been loud enough, but the bass at this place is mental. Super high energy for shows and security in the pit are super helpful. Balcony view is great as well, and being such an open area means that even arriving early there's basically never a queue to get in. If an artist tou like is ever playing, it's definitely worth it to go. Very intimate atmosphere and cuts down alot on tickets while still having mental shows.
B. D.
Brilliant venue. Well organised yet loose and friendly. Good staff, reasonable bar prices. Plenty of space. And great clientele when I last went
O. L.
Saw Dayglow and Far Caspian here, the venue was great. Sound could've been better which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. The staffs' really friendly.
D. S.
Attended the Ride & bdrmm gig on Sunday 24th April, my first visit to the Marble Factory. Impressed by the organisation, ticket checks and layout of the venue. The weather was decent so we were able to drink outside in the courtyard area. The drinks weren't cheap but that's normal nowadays.
Inside the venue was busy but enough standing space for a decent view for both bands. It's an imposing and sizable space, with a three sided balcony above. The lighting & sound were great for live music and both bands rocked the place.
I would like to give praise to the Security crew who were monitoring the crowd and picked out a beer-throwing trouble maker early during Ride's set. They singled him out, took him to the side and ejected him and his mate with minimal fuss. If this guy had stayed, he would have likely caused a ruckus with other gig goers. Good work fellas.
t. d.
Good venue, great burger bar outside, our night was standing only,
C. P.
Great gig venue, but bring a jumper in the winter ;-)
J. L.
Really cool venue, great sound system, friendly staff and security. Would happily come here again
L. H.
Went to see the Four Owls and the location is a small walk from temple meads. Only down side it was £8 for a single vodka and coke but none the less was a good night
R. C.
Just wanted to publicly thank the door staff who spotted someone walking off with my bike and managed to prevent it and then found me as I left the gig and was wondering where my bike was to let me know they had it safe. Thankyou very much XXX
H. L.
Really good venue. Went to see Carpenter Brut. Very easy to get to, only a few minutes walk from temple meads train station. The drinks are quite pricey, but its to be expected and all venues tend to charge quite a lot for drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful, and everything seemed well organised. Always glad when a band i like plays the Marble Factory.
M. G.
Good gig venue. Nice to see Bristol Beer Factory beers available.
A. R.
Well managed venue with decent refreshments available. Polite and helpful staff and great atmosphere
D. P.
Nice venue, good bar, well run, but the acoustics are not great. Lots of stuff just becomes an unintelligible mush in here.
S. N.
Great venue for music and easy walking distance to the train station at Bristol Temple Meads is great for those from out of the city to attend
I. “. S.
Nice small venue, along with an outside part that has a variety of outlets/services.
M. S.
First time here and all the facilities you need at a small venue. Great atmosphere!
M. D.
Great gig venue. Acoustics aren’t great, but if the band is hot who cares?
M. M.
Great proper rock venue. Got a decent beer too
G. C.
Good venue. Would be great if they did cider and beer on draught!
J. A. P.
Amazing sound. Excellent security. Pricey beer....like everywhere. Top one.
A.
Good security and venue size, sound was clear and great performance
t. l.
Great venue. Airy. Short walk from Bristol temple meads.
C. D.
Amazing gig. Great venue
R. R.
Brilliant night watching Dry Cleaning. Well organised, great staff
h. c.
Great staff. Really friendly and polite which made the whole gig a really good experience.
J. D.
Great venue, really enjoyed seeing the Wombats here
M. G.
Great sound system (they used to have a terrible one) and the space is minimally decorated. On the down side its always super cold, the bar staff are working at snail pace and the security kick you out of the place as soon the as the concert is finished. Shame, it could be an amazing venue.
K. O.
This placed has changed alot since I last went. It's actually the perfect size for a big night out - there's not much else in Bristol quite like it. Motion itself is too big, and most other places are too small or don't have the right setup. The sound quality was great, nice and loud and clear without being overbearing. Only downside was the massive queue at the bar - took forever to get a drink.
J. D.
I saw Too Many Zooz here, the venue is a warehouse so if you're looking for plush carpets and upholstered furniture this is not the place for you. There's a limited selection of drinks but free water on the bar, cigarettes (all the same price so spoil yourself with the nicest ones) and ear plugs if you want some. The staff were really nice, there's a large area outside for smoking. The only downside was that about 75% of the audience were just stood there recording on their phones, the band were amazing and energetic and deserved a bouncing crowd, not a bunch of people living through their phones.
B. P.
Part of motion, decent venue often used for live music rather than club nights, good quality sound system so the music there sounds good. I've seen quite a few different styles of music there and never been disappointed with the quality of the sound.
K. T.
Awesome place to see a band. We parked on the street near the venue. Security was polite and effective. Getting in was quick. The cans are a bit expensive but thats gigs I suppose. Good views of the band and a nice croud. Would be excited to see another band here. Behemoth were ace.
D. H.
Groove armada were brilliant, but queued for 45 mins to get served at the bar. Dance floor was completely rammed. Got a good spot upstairs but couldn't see any of the stage. Worthwhile for the atmosphere and the music but can't give it 5 stars.
P.
Nice venue, good burgers! Small enough to be close to the band where ever you are, making an immersive experience yet big enough to get a good amount of people In. Only downside is not a great deal of parking around the venue but the train station is a few mins walk. Will definitely be comming up for gigs here again
A. C.
Good venue for concerts, although the volume is always too loud (painful for me) and I have to bring earplugs!
D. R.
It gets 5 stars for sound and acoustics, but it was too hot and stuffy, and it was in Autumn - Don't think I'd want to see a band there in summer. The location wasn't great. Maybe if you're getting public transport it's ok, but it also isn't near anywhere else to get something to eat.
W. S.
Large open space with gallery around top. Packed out when I saw Editors, so difficult to get a good view of stage. Worth getting in early to get close to stage or to the front of the upstairs gallery. Gets very warm with a big crowd. Drinks outside very expensive.
E. G.
Great venue, incredibly overpriced drinks.
N. C.
Nice venue with helpful staff. Bit basic building wise with the venue being pretty much a warehouse and tickets being taken in a shed out front but honestly it added to the character. One thing to watch out for is that it is located in the middle of nowhere with nothing much nearby but tyre shops. Can't blame the venue for that though.
J. E.
Decent venue, beer and PA
J. B.
Able to accommodate an event of varied size.
What was great as water was handed out to the crowd to ensure that people remained hydrated and cool.
It would be good to have better security to ensure that there are less incidents during performances, and that anyone misbehaving is dealt with promptly.
There should be designated areas for those who wish to take part in so called Mosh Pits, and those that just wish to enjoy the event in a calm manner.
It would be good to see the area for the crowd to be modernised although this will/can vary from event to event.
A.
Well organised mid-sized venue; good sound; got extremely warm.
M. M.
Went to see Anathema there in September 2017. Not much to say about the place. Had a beer. The auditorium was not raised so couldn't see the band very well and I'm 1.78m tall. Its either that or Anathema has some really tall fans ;)
A. B.
Amazing venue - second time seeing DJ Shadow here and it was awesome once again!
W. W.
Location isn't the best, good if you're using the trains. However, venue is sick, quite cold during winter but I quite like that because it gets quite hot during a lively set. IDLES were top-notch.
e.
Ok live venue, bare setup, good for live rock.
R. S.
Nothing fancy just a good venue - bloody cold though
C. G.
Ok music venue. Sound on my last visit wasn't great. Beers expensive £4+ per can, likewise food. Cheese burger and chips £9 (nice burger though). A good stride (10 mins?) from nearest pub. Some on street parking nearby.
D. D.
Great club space, lovely staff from manager to bar staff to toilet attendant. Door staff bit heavy but we know what it can get like. Just my knees wish it was a different for for dancing on 🙄
G. P.
Had a great night out seeing Sonata Artica. Venue is pretty basic but the atmosphere is good.
e. p.
My experience of the marble club was for a Beards show that was great. Decent venue, though a little out-of the way. The toilets were adequate and the drinks were good.
S. H.
Great venue, but sound on the night was painfully loud. Maybe I'm just getting old, but have been working in events for 12+ years now. Attended venue to see a band, and got 131 db reading on calibrated VU at the back wall behind sound desk. Left early.
P. A.
Great space to see live bands. Friendly staff and the bouncers treat you like a human being :-)
Only downside is the cans of cider they sell aren't very nice.
M. W.
I went to the Marble Factory to see a Ladyhawke gig last night. My experience was very good. The venue is spacious, the sound good, lots of friendly bar staff and what I would consider to be a very good selection of drinks. It reminded me a bit of the Fleece in terms of look and feel inside. Its great to have a place like this in the cultural landscape of Bristol in an unusual part of town. Walkable from Temple Meads and you can always grab a pre gig dinner and drink at the excellent Barley Mow or Bocabar at Paintworks which isn't too far either. I'll be looking out for further listings at the Marble Factory. Thumbs up from me!
I. V.
Sound is not brilliant. The 'tap' water thing is just wrong. Instead of getting it from the bar, there are 'self service' jars. Yes, it saves the queuing, but what about the safety? Anyone can just f****** spit into it or worse, drug it. Well done on health and safety! Location of the venue is good though.
R. B.
Good venue for music, but all a bit too temporary... Porta-loos, bars that only serve cans of one lager brand. More festival than festival hall.
S. J.
Great mid size venue. Great way to use the old building. The drinks were chilled and not too expensive, a pleasant surprise in a gig venue.
m. l.
Ok venue. No frills (or heating) so wrap up warm .Don't expect real ale, Red stripe did it for me at 3 quid a can ,Good sound and visuals Saw Hawkwind plus support, great gig,
O. R.
Amazing little venue. Fantastic sound system, stripped back production (which added to the experience) & filled with lovely people. Highly recommended.
D. N.
Came to see The Beards on their farewell tour. Good venue. Staff and security were friendly and you could see the state easily from anywhere in the room.
J. s. (. S. P.
Great sized venue and the sound's always been good in my experience.
R. B.
Nice venue. Good atmosphere
H. H.
Lots of different events here. Can bar when we went. It was very cold too, so wear warm clothing unless it is a dance night
R. S.
Motion is the premier underground music venue in Bristol and should be in your plans if you are planning a night out. Be sure to check the listings before you go out as the variety of music on offer changes weekly.
S. “. P. L.
Nice venue to see a band, nice setting and just around the corner from the train station, well staffed and almost reasonable pricing on drinks too.
R. H.
Went to watch Dr Dre 2001 orchastra... sound quality was terrible. Way too much reverberation, many people left before show ended.
Nice location / venue
L. F.
Had a great night. Not cold despite being December. Good bar and lovely crowd. would definitely go again.
A. B.
Amazing venue with great lineups, awesome sound, and drinks just as expensive as you'd expect
P. G.
Been here once nice big music venue...dear drinks tho & they sell food, burgers ect which were nice.
H. G.
Amazing venue. Always happy when we get tickets for a show and it's here. One of my favourites
E. G.
Gets some great artists playing but it's easy to tell that the space wasn't designed with music in mind, needs quite a bit of investment in soundproofing to cut back on unwanted sound reflections and a badly vibrating ceiling, once this is done it should make for a much better live experience
E. L.
Awesome music venue featuring all kinds of different genres of music, can fit a decent amount of people inside
C. A.
Venue has a nice rustic look. Nice bars. Competent staff. Toilets however we're not great.
R. T.
Decent venue, saw Cannibal Corpse and they were excellent. Good parking nearby and easy to get a beer
D. P.
Good for the Autechre gig. Sound was alright and seems a fair size for small/mid artists. Probably a bit chilly in the winter months.
J.
Behemoth outperforms them all! Marble Factory? Rusty, post industrial stone and steel! Nice scene for all metal gigs!
s. m.
A good old fashioned place to see bands. Great views of the stage and a good vibe. Beers are good
T. G. (. G.
Good venue, dont wear your good trainers though as it's quite industrial (just the way I like it!)
M. M.
Great venue, friendly staff. Sound was fantastic, will go here again
T. F. (.
Good venue but appalling selection of drinks. Would put me off going agajn
C. H.
Just a big room really, glad they have proper toilets now but the smoking area needs work.
F. T.
A lovely industrial venue space with great sound system and a really varied programme of shows. Check it out!
M. G.
An intresting venue. Rather cold in nov and feels rather out of the way but a good night was had
P. L.
Good venue utility had no beers on tap and only strong stuff in cans
K. C.
Good small venue
D. C.
Great rock and roll venue the Shiver and The Rasmus were awesome
E. R.
Great sound but not enough staff over 30 mins to get a drink
K. T.
Interesting and good venue, however the toilets were tragic!
S. T.
Blatant false advertising, there was not a marble in sight. Still, good music venue, friendly helpful staff.
S. B.
Great Behemoth gig here
S. G.
Went for a work party, it's a great space, can't comment on it as a standard night out
M. H.
Need more bar staff, otherwise great venue
Z. G.
Apparently in the middle of an industrial estate. Humid and badly stocked bar. Outside courtyard is nice.
L. M.
Great venue, good stage and sound.
T. V.
Great atmosphere to see live music 👌🏻
L. S.
Very expensive drinks but a nice atmosphere for gigs
M. P.
Great venue to watch live bands.

The location is not very convenient, as it is located on a more industrial area. Didn't love the sound either.
