Reviews of Old Down Estate
R. N.
Loved it. Plenty of activities to do for lots of different ages. Also top score on sustainability aspects!
A. R. P. (.
Planned to picnic by the lake but was not to be due to sideways rain. Staff lovely and grounds stunning. Only let down was not enough covered seating to eat dinner out of the rain considering an event was on.
S. M.
Great park with loads to do. Nicely spread out so never feels too busy. Two great play areas, one for younger kids and one for older. Lovely gardens and stunning house. Two animal areas and small fish pond. Cafe is nice with plenty of covered outside seating and picnic area. They also sell their own produce. Great day out!
E. P.
Nice place with a good mixture of animals and play areas for children. A little run down in places and signage definitely needs improvement as you don't get a map. My children really enjoyed it apart from the large amount of wasps around and unfortunately my middle child did get stung, so something to be cautious of.
S. H.
Spent a day here loads to do lovely grounds and cafe.
J.
Had a lovely afternoon, enjoyed some food from the café and only got to see just a small part of the estate, mainly dew to my granddaughter having so much fun on the trampoline and adventure park, that we ran out of time. Will have to return another day to take in the rest.
S. G.
Lovely place, we are living so close and for long time we haven't known that place exist. Gorgeous area with beautiful view, animals, large playground, nice path to walk with pond, definitely one of my favourite place is Bristol area now. 😍 fully recommended! …
G.
Really nice estate here. Price of admission is reasonable. There are really nice views here and plenty of things to see and do.
A good fun day out for all the family. Well worth a visit, even on a rainy day. There is a cafe on site, and a lovely wooded area to catch some shade on a hot day.
J. V.
What a great place for children they can run and play all day.
There's a nature walk.
Fed the animals, some you can touch.
We saw George the peacock. The bouncy castle can be a nightmare if big kids run a mock little ones get bounced off.
You can easily spend day there.
Cafe food served.
L. R.
Not too bad even in the rain. Shame the outdoor seating is in some places greater than groups of 6 (during covid) but at least there is a place out of the rain.
The grounds are nice and the walk from the animals gives a few options if there for a significant amount of time.
G. M.
This is a great place to take young children. The petting zoo is well set out and a good interactive place for them to gain contact with the animals. There are plenty of places for children to run and play, my only criticism is that some areas need updating. If you are going to use old down on a regular basis, I would recommend an annual pass as it can save money.
R. T.
Love it here been so many times . Don't need to book can turn up and pay on the door plenty of things to see and do . Can even bring the dog !
A. C.
Good place for family day out. It has nice garden, picnic area, different types of animals, children's play area, fairly big area for plenty of walk. Reasonable entry fee.
A. M.
Had my son’s wedding here. What a fantastic place!
The grounds were immaculate. The staff were fantastic. The turn around from the meals to the disco were fantastic! If you’re looking for a wedding venue go here ! Did I mention it was fantastic!
A. A.
Lovely place- great nature, lots of activities for all family - for kids, for teenagers, for adults. Farm animals, playground, picnic area, fishing pond, vue to Severn Bridge and lovely rock garden. huge checker, craft area.
Activities for all day
S.
Lovely day out for all, excellent Toddlers play area as well as another area for the older children. Can highly recommend the "Pets Corner" all the animals in there are lovely.
R. H.
Beautiful place, lots to explore and see. Great for the kids with lots of things to do. Sadly looks like the zip wire has been taken down and is a little expensive for what there is to do. But a great place overall!
c. c.
Had a lovely spa day here and the afternoon tea was delicious. Would definitely go again :)
B. S.
Had a great time ice skating with friends, followed by a nice coffee in the farm shop cafe. Lovely grounds - although we didn't see much because of the weather - and loads for the kids to do. Will definitely be heading back for another visit when the weather dries up!
A. S.
Lovely place to take the kids. They loved the animals and the play areas. Could do with some more toilets .
D. N.
Absolutely beautiful place to come, bring the kids and walk the dog. Lots to see and do.
L. E.
Nice day out in the sun with grandson. Lots to do, lots of energy expended on assault course and trampolines. Helpful staff, just a shame there isn't a proper cafe for lunch, and some of the areas need a good makeover. Generally lots of fun.
S. G.
Lovely grounds, had an ice rink, plus lots of Christmas things in December, a choir, a parade, mulled wine etc
C. P.
Went for the illumination trail, excellent for small kids, just the right length of walk.
R. E.
Always a great visit, plenty to keep young children entertained.
J.
This place is dog friendly, disable friendly and best of all great for kids big and old.
We had fun though it rained all the time.
Buy food there or take a picnic.
Great place
C. B.
We though it was great! Lovely day out for our family even with some crummy British weather still lots to keep our toddler entertained!
D. J.
Brilliant place with so much to do with the kids. Lots of animals that you can get up close to, lots of open fields and a great adventure park. Food good too. Highly recommended!
R.
I loved it! Really want to bring the niece & nephew here. I think the only thing that worried me a little bit was that the petting area enclosures looked like they could do with some TLC, and one of the little bunnies looked a bit underweight/bullied by the others
I. J.
There is undoubtedly a lot to do here and you could easily spend half or a whole day in the park. Great for children with the smaller animals behind the reception area and the larger animals in the fields beyond. The donkeys and alpacas were good fun and buying the food for them added to the occasion for both adults and children. There is also a children's play area (the older ones loved the bouncy mattress) as well as a picnic area shaded by trees. I felt the standard price was a little steep at £9.50 per adult and there were 6 of us and 2 children, having said that everyone came away with a smile on their face.
E. W.
Open gardens with stable (?) Block for bar and band (this was a wedding reception). Outside there are plenty of seating areas, some covered and with radiant heaters. Ideal venue for party or reception.
C. S.
Such a delightful way to spend a day with family or just yourself. Plenty of sweet animals to see as well as walking around this lovely Estate.
H. L.
Lots to keep the children entertained. They even had Little Tikes Cosy Coupees for the little ones. Expensive if you factor in eating there as well. Animals look happy and well cared for.
E.
Great friendly place. I bought a season ticket as it's a really fair price. They have lots of events going on as an added bonus.
S. S.
Spacious, and wonderfully kept. Animals happy and in good condition. Beautiful gardens. Looking forward to being able to return, for another quality visit.
A. C.
Five stars for: location, services and customer attention. We attended a wedding and it was outstanding
s. g.
went for afternoon tea.which is our second visit
very impressive had tea in the manor house . if i had to rate the after tea it would have been 3 due to scones were rock hard had them replaced but came back warm but outside very hard. not impressive as last time
A. D.
Visited Foxhills Spa, absolutely gorgeous place, lovely treatments and good food, highly recommend. Tegan & Sam were brilliant and nothing was to much trouble. Will be visiting again.
L. B.
Lovely farm park with lots to do. Slight lack of toilet facilities in the bigger play area - it's a long walk back up the field with a desperate child!
L. S. C.
Good place for the kids but not sure I'd go back for £28 for me and 2 children.
A.
Lovely place for children, so much for them to do, always have fun whenever we go, well worth a visit, plenty to do and see
k.
Lovely place to relax in nature and for a cup of tea
T. A.
Service - on this occasion staff were friendly and helpful. Not very attentive - had to be reminded to clean the table etc.
Offering - lots of things to do including animals to look at, animals to pet and feed, great play area and jumping pillow. It was raining and the indoor options (bus/yurt) were closed with no indication why. Cafe, restaurant and roast dinner available for food. We ate in the restaurant which was delicious with good sized portions.
Atmosphere - relaxed, laid back and not too busy. Fun for all ages. Whilst the park has a variety of things to do it’s not too much walking so good for both young and old. You can spend an hour here or all day - very flexible and you don’t feel like you need to commit a full day if you just want a fun hour with the family.
Location - no public transport in this location. Easy to find, not much else nearby but you could spend all day here. Very accessible from the motorway.
W. M.
We came for afternoon tea in the barn.We couldn’t fault the food it was very nice. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. But the barn was chilly and drab with chairs piled up at one end and on the counter at the other end which greets you when you arrived, were plastic crates full of crockery and cutlery. Not very smart, you need to open up the wall on the kitchen garden side and add a conservatory or orangery.Your patrons would have a pleasant view to look at.
A. C.
Nice place to go with the kids for half day. Will review come the summer as not see or do much as the kids did ice skating and saw a few animals late in day.
G. H.
Perfect place to take the grandchildren, whatever the weather!
j. n.
Had a great time ...the 3 grandkids ran around enjoyed the adventure playgrounds ...loads of animals to feed , made a bug house , held animals at pets corner ...Next time will bring a picnic ...brilliant
J. A.
Great place, we have two very young children and felt very safe to give them some freedom. Nice walk, two good parks, lovely animals. When the splash pool is in and done it will be perfect. Cafe was good quality. Good value.
l. k.
What a place, it was fantastic.. we had a lovely afternoon tea.. which was delicious and looked fabulous. The barn was beautiful, cosy and warm. We took a walk around the estate and grounds. We also seen lots of animals. Plenty of things to do for all the family. Would definitely recommend this place and planning to go back again.
R. B.
The pet corner was awesome, and the grounds are perfect for kids of all ages to run around and explore! Only down sides are that there is only one baby changing toilet even though their playground caters for toddlers... And the service at the cafe is very slow. Otherwise we had a lovely day here and will go again!
E. B.
Lovely family day out. Chance to pet/feed animals, two play areas for kids- one well suited for younger kids whilst the other for older, cute little gift shop, nice cafe. Parking is adequate. Make sure to take wellies if the weather has been iffy!
A. T. f.
Perfect for young kids to run off steam (on dry days). Few animals to see and pet. Lots of grounds to walk around. Lots of things for little ones to climb and bounce and swing on. While you can enjoy a nice picnic and a quite read of your book and still keep an eye on your little darlings 😁😎 …
T. P.
Such a lovely place with lots of things for children to do. My little one is 18 months and had a great day. Only issue was that there were loads of wasps everywhere so eating was difficult. They just wouldn't leave you alone.
H. H.
Love this place and they really look after it well. The kids are older now but they used to love coming here and playing in the massive park and using the trampolines. They found the chickens/hens hilarious to watch by the shop. It's a shame they've been moved from there. I've done the 5k run here which allowed me to see more beautiful grounds and I've been to 2 functions in the main house which were both great evenings.
G. V.
Had a lovely day with my Son and his family great place for the children to play and for them to see the animals and feed them. I would have given 5 stars but when we had the Sunday roast the pork was very under cooked and I mean under cooked. Apart from that we had a lovely day
J. H.
I remember taking my son there 30 years ago. I milked a cow and we bottle fed sheep. Lots more things to do now and a brilliant teaching cottage garden.
V. S.
Great place, quite good value. Animal area is a bit grotty, but kids had a blast in great little ones play area, huge site with massive outdoor adventure play area, nice cafe and food. Lots of wasps in summer. Rubbish portaloos, wouldn't have enough space to take a child who needs help on loo without leaving door open and can't take a buggy in as small wooden steps up to loo/sink area so have to leave it outside. Not sure about whether there was baby changing area.
D. A.
Found it to be a great kids birthday party venue despite being late December. The ice rink was good, with long sessions allocated for skating. The grounds were diverse with many animals to visit and various play options.
L. B.
Was a nice day out with a nice roast, booking recommend and they were very lovely service staff. I'm glad that we visited on a Groupon deal as not sure I'd feel it would be worth the full price.
All areas could just do with a bit of tlc and refining but a nice nice out with little ones, just not much shade on play areas so on scorching days not much they can go on. There are a number of little huts advertising ice cream but they were all shut which was a bit bizarre as high season. This didn't help the slightly unkempt feeling. Looks like a lovely venue though!
a.
Great day for kids and adults, less polished than some of the other family orientated attractions but charming for it. We had loads of fun making crafts in the yurt, and playing in the adventure playground and toddler play area.
N. G.
Lovely large park with different areas. We've been here many times and even when the car parks are full there is plenty of room for everyone and never seems crowded. Dogs are also welcome if kept on leads and out of pet corner.
Would have been 5* but we always seem to have to go into the restaurant to get a member of staff to go to the shop so that we can buy tickets and pay for items.
S. E.
We've visited a number of times in the past and always enjoyed it. That said, having returned with slightly older children (9 and 6) I would say that there is less to hold their interest. It's perhaps more suited for younger ages. Feels like there were less animals to see this time too.
S.
Beautiful venue but there was an extremely rude bar man who had serious attitude issues. Also none of the drinks are on tap so paying £3 for a diet coke that came from a 1.5ltr bottle was insulting. The food was delicious but the portions were lacking so I was extremely hungry later. The red wine was delicious.
l. w.
I attended the scarefest last night with a few others. We had a great time. We thought it was done brilliantly and all the staff were really lovely and friendly. It was scary walking through the woods in the dark which I thought added amazing atmosphere. We all left laughing and all agreed we had a great night. I will defiantly be coming again next year.
R. B.
My daughter says: "Loved it liked seeing the rabbits it was epic". Really nice and welcoming country estate with plenty to keep young and older occupied. Excellent play areas and I really like the walled vegetable garden, and wider grounds. Recommend looking for a deal, e.g. Groupon, for entry tickets.
P. E.
Held our daughters 20th Wedding Anniversary in the Barn. It's a great venue just right for 70 or so guests. Food was really good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Shame the weather wasn't better to enjoy more of the outside area. Well recommended.
M. B.
Great park. Make sure you take a walk through the woods and past the lake. A real walk through nature with a good view over the Severn.
The cafe serves great food where there is clearly attention to detail. I only had a panini but it was garlic mushroom and stilton nicely done with a fresh garnish. The sandwiches have real ham not processed stuff. The drinks on offer are real drinks not just the usual rubbish found in most places. The ice cream is real and the farm shop has some tasty snacks too.
The kids amuse themselves for hours in the adventure park and equally through the woods and fields while playing with the long grass. What stands out about this place is the relaxed and more natural feel to the place compared to some of the other parks.
J. D.
What a fabulous day we had today with our two Grandsons age 8 & 3. They both loved pet corner which homed three goats, two pigs, a sheltand pony, several rabbits including two giant ones, guinea pigs which my grandson was able to cuddle plus roaming peacocks and pea chicks and several chickens. They also enjoyed playing on the bus. The jumping pillow was great fun too. There is so much more to see and do. Execellent value for money. We will definitely be returning soon.
P. M.
Nice place to go with kids especially as they have a petting zoo and other animals that you can see, goats, lamas, fowl etc. Play area as well. We go with the dog. Must be kept on lead but nice enough walk. Do have to pay for entry but it's not too bad and there is a cafe area there too. Stunning views across the Severn too when you get to the back. They also do a Segway thing there so do watch out for people passing by on those but it's nothing to worry about there's plenty of room and you won't get knocked over lol
k. w.
What a great fun place, there is some thing for every one, animals gardens fantastic play areas, plenty of places to enjoy your own food, or eat there
P. G.
Great place for the young family. Lovely cafe and nice sitting area in the garden.
S. C.
I really like being able to take my son and our dog here, as there are not many places that we can do this. The reason I'm giving four stars is that there is really nothing to do if the weather is bad, as all of the activities are outside. It's a lovely place in the summer as they have a fantastic large wild flower meadow with lovely views.
C. P.
Absolutely amazing!
Y. M.
We visited there with my 9 month granddaughter. It was a quite, gentle and young children friendly place with young farm animals to feed. Beautiful garden and lovely lawn with fantastic views. Lovely day out.
A. D.
Autumn half term jaunt with a toddler and breast feeding baby. Having been National Trust members for years, we have been spoiled. Although there are some thoughtful touches and some interesting things for children to explore, the facilities are rather tired, low budget and basic. The cafe is mediocre- nothing exciting or inviting on the menu. Breast feeding and nappy changing facilities are poor. Some features present a risk because of poor maintenance and lack of fencing e.g. the pond in the garden. I wouldn't rush back.
S. M.
Really lovely animal pet area. Lots of area to walk and play. Some of the toy cars would need to be replaced. You must definitely take your own food. Food very expensive and very small. Goats cheese and beetroot salad awful. Mostly brown lettuce. I did thankfully have my money refunded, the restaurant is also the entrance which caused many problems.
R. W.
We went for the Christmas activities. Santa was great with the children. We sent a in the small cafe and ordered a bacon roll and chips. We waited 3/4 I'd an hour. The manager did apologise and offered us.more drink. Luckily we didn't have to be anywhere so happy to wait in the warm
Our collegues ate in the Barn next door and had to send their food back. Jacket potatoes still hard in the middle and one man checked on the thyme as it had been left with the whole stick in the bolognaise.!
G. G.
Great location & setting, good food fab place for weddings. Really like the newly refurbished house and grounds.
What's not to like!
r. k.
It's a nice day out. Good variety of things to do and see. There's a reasonable selection of animals to see (although the petting corner was closed this time). The restaurant serves some nice meals and snacks although the service could be quicker.
S. C.
Beautiful place great for small children. Always have a great day.
R. W.
Good little car show.weather was good nice informal meet.lots of cars. Went last year. There is another one on September 15th this year. Will go to that. Food on site. Most amazing chips.I think it is arriving at 10 to 10. 30am and ends at 1pm.see you there. He he
A. T.
A great place to take kids for the day 👌 …
J. s.
Nice place but quite small. We were there an hour & had been around everything in that time. Good if you have kids as they have a kids play area. I’d say it’s a bit over priced for the amount there is to actually do.
A. S.
Friendly stand enjoyable Christmas Illuminations.
R. S.
Very pleasant stop with a large play area for kids. Cafe has some nice food, but service is a little slow. Includes a short woodland walk with good views.
L. L.
Found this place sure to ice skating available until end Feb.
Friendly staff and lots of kids/ toddlers to do, play area etc
Only down side is prepared to get muddy and few of the kids toys were broken and needs replacing.
Good day out non the less.
G.
Bought lunch which was very nice, served by a charming young Welsh lady with red hair who made us feel very welcome. The animals and views around the estate are lovely.
T. A.
Great family day with out door activities, farm animals, country trails and good café which serves as a steak restaurant a couple of time per week. The main house is great for parties and weddings. Well organised by polite & friendly staff.
E. S.
Went to see illuminations was really nice
C. M.
Love Oldown! A great place to visit with family. There's so much to do and see - animals, playground, kids areas, woodland walks. They also host lots of different events here so worth checking their website to see what's on.
p.
Love coming here with the family on a nice sunny day. Quite, chilled. Big open spaces. Nice place for a picnic. Lots of farm animals to see, pet and feed.
A. W.
Kids love it, some of the old equipment has been removed or updated, but compared to similarly priced attractions still feels like there could be more.
c. p.
No hard grounding car park so having rained was incredibly muddy for driving in field. Nice activities for kids. Spent a few hours here.
F. N.
Very simple , nice and natural place if you want to spend quiet moment with kids. There is a very nice place for picnic and a beautiful lake. My daughter had really enjoyed the park.
R. O.
Very family friendly with lots of animals to see and a big park out the back.
T. S.
Great for kids. Reasonable entry fee. Clean and we'll spaced
M. L.
Park is lovely and well worth annual membership. But food is overpriced and not presented properly. Lack of plates...wooden boards used instead. Difficult to eat food and portions small. A pity..
they are letting themselves down
M. R.
Lovely surprise. Has a certain charm. The animals seem very happy. Particularly the two donkeys.
L. M.
Excellent relaxed friendly and lots of fun.
Dinosaur trail lots of fun and the talk was very good very child friendly kids loved it staff all lovely and helpful and friendly
Can't wait to go again. Would highly recommend. 😁😁😁😁 …
J. E.
Decent.
A. L.
Best day out here. The place is gorgeous, really quiet and the animals and play equipment outstanding
H. H.
You know it'd been a fantastic day ,when your 15 year old says never want this day to end....need I say more
G. S.
Some of the equipment could be serviced better as some were broken and possibly dangerous especially a green plastic slide that was could cause injury to any child using it. Also waste bins had obviously not been emptied from the day before as they were overflowing when we got there at 11am
E. Y.
Lovely afternoon tea at Old Down Country Park. The staff were so attentive and the food was fantastic, so much we couldn't eat all of it so the staff kindly put what was left in a takeaway box . Definitely recommend.
J. J.
Lovely grounds but a bit strange that the pasties are cold and you have to microwave them yourself? 🤔 …
M. C. o. t.
Fun family day out. Got our tickets on Groupon and we thought that the price was fear. I do t think I can afford to come here again. The place is lovely and the people is friendly.
J. W.
Fantastic dry day out for littlies up to about 11 or 12 years. Beautiful scenery, worth a visit for the Cafe and shop (if no children) too.
J. C.
Getting tired and lazy. As a park ok but was there for the fireworks display which was shockingly mis managed from start to finish. For a so called premium venue they really need to sharpen the pencil and do something new to add to the experience.
D. M.
Had a great day with my kids (aged 6 and 2), they especially enjoyed the bouncing pillow, seeing the animals and making lanterns in the yurt
S. N.
A wonderful place to go with children to explore and run around. Yurt was lovely and warm for children to do arts and crafts wonderful supplies. Definitely will be back.
J. T.
I went to old down with husband, daughter and gran children had a great day out we loved it so much to amuse kids.the double decker bus went down well going to get a membership so can spend plenty more days there.
e. c.
Wonderful place to spend the day, good activities for children, very clesn and safe. Love it.
R. H.
Visited purely to use the Barn Cafe. Food was great and service good. Had to sit in the entrance area due to machines not working in the barn... Meant the atmosphere was not quite as pleasant.
A. B.
Great for kids 10-. Age 2 and 4 were perfect for something's but maybe too young for some things. Lovely cafe and a great day out
l. f.
Very picturesque and lots of fun for kids for a day out. Well worth the money
P. C.
Great for young families with lots of land to explore and animals to see, needs more seating for the older grandparents.
l. w.
Awesime place with lots for the kids to do , nice little cafe ,beautiful views and very reasonably priced ,will definately come back again
L. H.
It was a lovely enjoyable day but needs to be more disabled friendly. For example needs ramps to get in and out for the entrance and exit and a disabled toilet needs to be installed somewhere.
T.
For Halloween loads of stuff to do for two 6 & 7 year old girls. Potion making, slime making, spider making, pumpkin carving. And lots of outdoor stuff too. Excellent
M. F.
Great British Countryside !
K. e.
Great place for all ages , play areas ,animals, good food , a lot to explore.
J. C.
Staff very friendly. Some areas a little tired but will be lovely when all the flowers are out.Food all fresh and enjoyable.
C. C.
Delivered a cake to the lovely barn for a wedding. Really helpful and friendly staff, great place for a wedding.
R. F.
Lovely place with large kids park, animals and petting corner. Has a small cafe and good walks
K. T.
Absolutely love this place, great for the kids!!! Animals are great and all the staff are lovely. Have some great events!
L. L.
Plenty of open space....good adventure playgrounds for the children. Lovely for a picnic. Beautiful scenery.
E. R.
Peaceful. Except for the horrible Christmas music. But you can get a bit of distance from that. Really well looked after.
R. S.
Old Down Manor hosts Working Breakfast's Thornbury Group. Excellent service, facilities and food provided by friendly and efficient staff.
A. M.
Beautiful place to visit I attended for a wedding but many more activities available
J. P.
We use to love old down, but the park caters now more for weddings, the adventure playground has become a little tired, and seemly fewer animals present
T. H.
Lovely day out for younger children. Plenty to do however there were not as many animals there as were on previous visits.
V. H.
Could have put notices up with animals names and age also more panic tables please
G. W.
Good toddler play area. Variety of animals. Larger play area for older kids. Open space.
R. H.
Less than expected having read the leaflet but nevertheless our granddaughters enjoyed the day
A. P.
Great day out for kids and adults. Loads of activities, great cafe, lots of lovely animals and it's pretty.
J. H.
My Mum(88) was poorly so I had to pull off the motorway!! The staff were really helpful, thanks so so much!
C. W.
Very nice peaceful, attractive and friendly place to visit. Had a great time walking and sitting in the aun.
T. M.

Fantastic place for the family
C.
Really great for kids of all ages. Enough space for it not to feel crowded - even on a Bank Holiday Monday!
B. S.
Brilliant fireworks, well organised, perfect for little ones and very "covid safe"
D. A.
Recommend visiting has something for children of all ages. The separate are for toddlers was great for us.
C. S.
Reasonably priced roast. Over priced drinks. Best thing about it was the cauliflower cheese, the rest was nothing to write home about.
E. S.
Great place to have fun with our extended family, ages from 4 to 77 had a great day out
B. L.
Brilliant place to take the family, nice walks, picnic areas, suitable for all ages.
J. G.

(Translated) Without a doubt a very fun place for the little ones. On sunny days, or at least when it does not rain, it is a great option to spend the day with the family. They have several farm animals, playgrounds, picnic area, cafeteria ... You can also bring your own food. Ample parking and moderate entry price.
