Reviews of The Old House 1147
Beautifully set in the Welsh countryside. Elegant mix of old and new . Beautiful views with large windows to enjoy the green rolling hills . It is very busy and sought after place for Sunday Roast so reservations are a must. Extensive drink menu with a beautiful bar at the front . Food was good, very generous portions for the roast. Very accommodating for families with young children. Beautiful patio space to sit back and enjoy.
Called for a birthday lunch and wasn't disappointed. Food just as amazing lunch time as the evening. Great 2 course set price. One of the prettiest surroundings for a restaurant. Plus all staff are pleasant and helpful.
Lovely pub with a view to die for! The whole setting is beautifully located. The serving team are friendly and informative and are happy to make recommendations. Worth a visit even if the road is a little narrow on the approach (in-car sat nav).
Lovely Sunday lunch enjoyed today at The Old House. This venue has changed much since I last visited about 6 years ago. Although it has lost some of its cosy feel the restraunt has been extended and affords amazing views across the adjacent fields. Today was warm so the large bi-fold doors were opened and it was a lovely place to sit and eat. The food we had was certainly better than before and the service was excellent. We were rather slow deciding what we wanted but Maria was patient and attentive.
There were plenty of staff and although the resturaunt was busy when we arrived we still felt well looked after. The meat choice was good. we had Lamb and it was really nice. Overall the food was freshly cooked and tasty. No complaints at all.
Nice large car park.
This venue caters for weddings and now you can even stay in one of six rooms available.
I will be using this resturaunt again for sure. 🙂
We enjoyed a delicious lunch here while on a short trip to the area. The food, atmosphere and staff were all excellent. We dropped lucky with a table as we hadn't booked in advance, but it was busy (on a Saturday) so worth making a reservation if you plan to visit.
My partner and I celebrated our anniversary and birthdays with an overnight stay at the weekend. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and just lovely. The food was amazing and the 2 course lunch deal is amazing value. Our room was modern, clean with a beautiful view and the bed was comfy. It really was a delightful stay and we will be back. Thank you for making our celebration special and so enjoyable.
Beautiful place, the food come so quick so be prepared for quick service. Meals were very tasty. Will be going back 💞 staff were so friendly!
What a wonderful setting for The Old House although visited on a winter evening you can sense the view as you look out over the gardens. The original house still stands and Amy was kind enough to show me the small house and big fireplace even the bread oven is still in view in what is now called the Cwtch and the very interesting story about a lady of the village is still talked about hundreds of years on. There is a plack on the wall in her memory.
The new purpose built structure gives you outstanding views of the mountains and countryside around. On entering the Old House a warm welcome is given to you by a gentleman named "Antonio" who is Front of House and will help you with arranging your table. Booking in advance is advisable but we'll worth the wait if you haven't. This will tell you how busy a weekend is. I had the Roast Turkey Dinner and it was everything and more I would expect on a Christmas Special. Menu has a good selection of food covering many tastes. An excellent evening thoroughly enjoy my first visit will certainly be going back. Staff are friendly and helpful everything that makes an evening special. Well worth a visit try it for yourself.
I visited on the 10th of September. Beautiful venue staff were very friendly so would give this part a 5 ⭐ but a little disappointed in the menu not alot of fish dishes.
My son had steak which was over cooked and so was my husband's lamb I had a chicken dish but it just had no flavour and the dessert had very little taste.
The starter's were lovely .
I will visit again and hopefully the standard of the food will have improved
The place to go for A Sunday Roast. Fantastic environment and superb service. Have to struggle with a narrow road to reach though. Having said that been twice there now and if around the area will definitely visit again.
An excellent afternoon two course meal with a Cockle, King Prawn and Mussel Linguine and a Hake Steak followed by two superb desserts. The staff were very friendly and the beer was ice cold and very palatable.
Everything was perfect. Food was gorgeous and surroundings gorgeous. Only problem was there was an older blonde server that I asked because I am on dialysis I can't eat a lot and asked if I could have a smaller portion. She replied they couldn't do that but I could take home what I didn't eat so agreed to that. Both meals came which were gorgeous and at the end of the meal this older blonde server came up to me and threw a Chinese plastic container in front of me . This I found not very professional at all and really put a damper to the end of the evening. Younger servers were really professional. Will return but will try to avoid the older server.
Treated ourselves to an overnight stay 24/9-25/9 everything was perfect . Beautiful venue ,stunning decor and scenery, amazing food and service .Every member of staff so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was freshly cooked and a very helpful breakfast waiter .
Lovely meal. The staff were really friendly and chatty. Highly recommend the 16oz T bone steak and the Lamb. Both beautifully cooked. Desserts were just delightful. Had the chocolate brownie, Roulade and jam roly poly. Yummy.
We loved our stay so much.
The room decor and comfort was beautiful, the location was amazing and such a peaceful and pretty location.
The facilities were great, breakfast was super tasty and the staff were amazing. We loved our stay so much and will absolutely be back without a shadow of a doubt.
Thank you so much.
My only criticism was that we were in Room 3, unfortunately we had no Wi-Fi and the Netflix app on the TV didn't work either.
We didn't need to use either the Wi-Fi or Netflix all that much, only at night time, but when we did it would have been nice to actually be able to use it, especially as it's advertised that there is Wi-Fi available. There is free Wi-Fi but it only seemed to work at the restaurant or bar.
Mostly good food, though there were a lot of potatoes (3 kinds) compared to the other vegetables and side dishes and some of the meat was very dry.
Disorganised service; we had to wait over half an hour for a table, despite having booked one. The table service was also disorganised.
Lovely meal pleasant atmosphere great views and the staff made you feel welcome and couldn't do enough for you can't wait to re book
We visited from England for my husbands birthday, with our friends who live close by.
What an absolutely beautiful place, service and food where on point.
Highly recommend
50th Anniversary family lunch.
Superb meal , outstanding service. Special mention to Helen and her staff.
Amazing food, first class service with the most beautiful views x
Always great food and atmosphere. On this occasion my order was wrong as I ordered a lamb shank but got rump. This was quickly changed. I personally didn't like the potato rosti as it was too wet. The prawn starter was OK but not as great as usual. I always have the prawn starter
Although very busy on Father's day, service was efficient after waiting for the table to become available. Food was excellent and staff were very friendly! Good pint of Double Dragon with our slow roast lamb dinners went down very well indeed. Keep up the good work!
Wow what a beautiful place. Stopped for lunch on a Monday and with good weather the views were worth every penny. Get the fish and chips and thank me later. Huge portions. Couldnt have asked for a better spot to have lunch.
It was a long time that I was here last and all I can say is ..wow.. went with my wife for our anniversary and the place has been totally transformed , it's been done to a very high standard with beautiful wood beams , stone floors and a lovely wooden bar, fabulous big windows which open right up to take full advantage of the wonderful views, the furniture is a mix of old , new and recycled tastefully done . The staff are very friendly and constantly on the go . The food was absolutely lovely cooked to perfection and well presented and tasted even better .I had the tuna steak on a bed of spicy noodles which the tuna steak just fell apart to the touch and my wife had the steak which was cooked to perfection for her, the portions are a good size and just enough also a lovely pint there . I would highly recommend trying if you have not yet been , we will definitely be returning soon .
Outstanding service lovely food .we will be back.. this is the . First time we had 3 course .... that says it all .....mmmmmmmm.staff were lovely .warm welcome and great price for what we ordered 😀👍
Food was excellent and fairly priced for the standard. Service could not be faulted - the two waitresses who served our table were very attentive despite it being very busy in the restaurant. Highly recommended.
My first visit and my sister and I had a beautiful lunch. The staff were very friendly and attentive. As soon as they realised I had mobility issues they made sure I was comfortable by changing my chair! My sister has certain issues with food and there was no problem in accomodating her needs. The food was delicious and the views are amazing. I would definitely recommend. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Location and setting beautiful.
Staff all working very hard and very well.
My only real issue was the steak was underdone but I understand that can be objective. Issue was that nobody did a check back for a long time so I'd pretty much eaten the parts I could by that point.
Good. Not quite great.
Beautiful views and stunning food. Staff are really friendly as well
Wow the food their was absolutely amazing the lam chops was awesome devin and when I say that about my food then it's good I don't normally find a restaurant that tick all the boxes but this one did five star rating
Absolutely wonderful Sunday lunch. Food was excellent, full of flavour and of great quality. Plenty of veg (carrots, peas, shredded cabbage, leek cheese, roast parsnips, roast and new potatoes), a Yorkshire pudding and a tasty gravy. Staff fabulous, helpful and have a great sense of humour too. Cracking!
Had lunch here last week. Food was good and reasonably priced. The grounds and views are lovely. Although we were unable to sit out on the terrace or down on the grounds for a drink after as there was a gathering after a funeral the same time we were there. Might be good idea to inform people of this so they can have an option of coming at a different time.
Had the pleasure of eating here for a friend's birthday. Absolutely stunning location and gorgeous food. Staff were lovely and prices very reasonable. Can't wait to come back. Definitely one of my favourite places.
A fantastic place for my daughters birthday meal. Would definitely recommend.
Amazing food and service definitely be going again
Great place for a wedding. Food is good too
Beautiful old style building that has been renovated really well. Could not fault the food or the service. Quality food at a high ish price compared to some others but worth every penny. One you should really try, you won't be disappointed.
Just had a fabulous Mother's Day lunch with family. Food great, lovely server's, fabulous surroundings, extremely enjoyable. Will be back.
First time to visit the restaurant, what an amazing place it is too. Helpful, friendly staff and the food was delicious.
We will return in the summer to make the most of the beautiful views.
Great Food. Great service. Great front of house welcome
Fab Sunday lunch . Had the duck bon bons to start followed by the lamb . Both lovely with a great variety of sides. Staff really good too. Slick service by happy polite staff
Lovely, if slightly limited menu in an airy restaurant with stunning views, if you're lucky enough to secure a table close to the window. Service on a busy bank holiday was a tad slow.
Poor, unimaginative children's menu, with tomato pasta or 'option' & chips only, which was a shame.
stayed her for a few days. staff so lovely, approachable and quick to recommend places to visit and things to do - thank you. about the room - well decorated but also felt nicely rustic with the beams and windows. however couple of issues - the shower is open so lots of water getting on the floorboards which we ended up covering with lots of towels, not pleasant. sink was absolutely tiny - 25cm by 15cm rectangle is not appropriate! wifi pretty much absent but it is the countryside and we can all do with some detoxing. breakfast was a bit sparse - could do with more pastries that aren't sugar-loaded; perhaps some croissants? having said all that, views are magnificent, it was the most beautiful thing to wake up to the sound of sheep bleeting and cows moo-ing! just a few changes and this would be 5stars!
Excellent food and service. Staff were fantastic going that extra mile, even cutting up the meat on my partners plate due to her broken arm. Scenic views
I hadn't visited The Old House for years, but when I'd heard they'd refurbished and reopened we booked a family meal to celebrate my Mum's birthday. There were eight of us, seated next to an enormous picture window, with a lovely view of the neighbouring farmland. The meal was superb, and the service excellent, considering we were quite a big group. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We'll definitely be coming again.
Lovely hotel, amazing views, staff and food. Worth a visit.
Always a pleasure to go back there. Everytime we have overseas guests we take them there to impress them with decor as well as cousine
On a busy Bank Holiday Monday, the veiws were amazing but service was not forthcoming even though there were plenty of staff. The young lad looking after the customers outside on the green was polite, confident, professional, knowledgeable and pretty much running the show on his own and doing the best he could. Well done, shame you didn't get more support.
First time visit. Food was superb. The staff were excellent. Not intrusive as some can be. But enough to make you feel that you are thier only customer .
Went for a meal in the Old House last night. every thing was excellent. the food, the service and the staff. We were made very welcome. I would recommend anytime.
Our family came for sunday lunch . WAW! what a transformation . Wonderful food,Lovely friendly staff and great atmosphere. Love the balance of new extension and original pub. Couldn"t ask for more.
Diolch yn fawr
Up there with the best hotel stay and food was perfect. The whole stay was pretty perfect, but would love to see a better TV in the room, the channels take a while to change and are very small.
Cant wait to go back absolutely beautiful setting and great food x
This place is wonderful! The refurbishment and new branding has given this place a new lease of life! The food is of great quality and reasonably priced for what you get! We had a selection from the specials board! It did not disappoint. Still get a feel the food is home cooked, and you get good portions. Really enjoyed. Highly recommend. Have heard great reports of the sunday carvery too. Will have to revisit! :)
Had Sunday lunch here on 13/09/2020, the location is beutiful, the building has been renovated to a very high standard, the service was outstanding from every member of staff we encountered, we were seated in the large hall like part of the building with large windows overlooking the valley, the first thing I noticed was how loud everything was, the constant drone of people talking made it difficult to hear the staff who were taking our orders and she also had trouble hearing me , the tables were well spaced due to CV19 regulations so the usual problem of overhearing the neighbouring table wasn't an issue but the overall chatter noise was a bit off putting, the food was well presented and I have no complaints about the quality or flavour of the food we were served, my only minor gripe would be the need to serve my apple crumble in a miniature cast iron saucepan at 400°c full to the brim so I couldn't pour the custard over the crumble until I'd eaten half of it, by which time a skin had formed on the custard because I had to wait for the crumble to cool enough to eat first, little thing but a bit annoying when I really wanted to mix in the custatd with the crumble to get the best gooey texture i wanted, maybe some sound deadening on the walls would be an idea to reduce the canteen feel I had when I was first seated. Would I eat here again, absolutely 👍, maybe request a table in quieter part of the building.
Have to say I was very impressed with the Old House. Lovely location and the venue itself is clean, fresh and welcoming. Food was lovely, good service and a relaxes atmosphere. Felt safe due to their Covid safety measures. Will definitely be going back.
Terrific spur of the moment decision to go here for lunch. Great food, super service and real value for money. Unfortunately the weather didn't afford us the pleasure of the views of the surrounding countryside but this gives us an excuse to come back! First class.
Fabulous food, Fabulous views, staff really friendly. I've taken a star off as when we went it was 30+ degrees and I felt that they needed air conditioning, as it was uncomfortably hot in the restaurant
Attended this venue a few weeks ago and it's absolutely beautiful. Can't comment on the food as I was just attending an event but the venue itself is stunning and the staff were very friendly and accommodating
Absolutely beautiful place ! Definitely will return .
Thanks to Leanne and her amazing customer service made the night worth while, thanks again
Me and my husband booked a table for 8pm however waited until 8.40 to be seated. It was explained after 30 minutes that there was a problem in the kitchen causing the delay. We were eventually sat at a table by the open doors which offered a beautiful view while eating our meal. I was disappointed with the vegetarian options available however I did enjoy my meal, my husband on the other hand was not impressed at all and says he will not return.
Amazing food and service in Beautiful surroundings, highly recommend.
Fabulous Sunday lunch .Top quality food, great service . Wonderful views of rolling green hills
A beautiful environment, good food and service. Overall effect was spoiled by dirty wine glasses (put out as part of table settings) on the table when we arrived. Also no social distancing measures evidents in toilets.
My self and 3 friends dined at the Old House Maesteg last night .it was the nicest food we had tasted in a long time .excellent service friendly staff .we thourally enjoyed ourselves will defenatly be going back .
Incredible place, great food, fantastic staff and the scenery is amazing. Highly recommended a stay here, the room I stayed in was incredibly cosy and the bathtub was a great feature.
Fantastic food, nice friendly staff, lovely looking place really enjoyed tonight
Absolutely stunning
Service superb
Food beautiful
A must visit but book in advance
7 of us had a loverly meal last night up the old house really nice atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and helpful can't wait to visit again 😊
What can I say ,absolutely fantastic meal, staff very attentive. Highly recommend. Superb Carvery, choice was excellent, could only fit in icecream for dessert.
Very welcoming and friendly service team nothing was a problem for the staff no long waits between course's food was warm and very nicely presented and excellent quality
Everyone feels welcome here and the food and drink is fantastic. Llangynwyd is proud of this place and the history is within the walls, this historic building is a bonus for the area and Maesteg is joyful in the shared history.
Wonderful Sunday Lunch. Beautiful place. Great service.
Absolutely stunning food. Stunning surroundings and the staff there are incredibly polite and helpful
Great venue, great food. You will not be disappointed
Lovely Sunday Lunch. Shame about the waiters
Absolutely beautiful location and stunning food. Helen our waitress was absolutely amazing.

Great place to go for food. The staff were both friendly and helpful. Will go there again.
Had lunch with my daughter and had the linguini it was very tasty but a little to greasy, service was exceptional.
Service was superb
Food fantastic
Bloody cold tho, not their fault 😃
Was disappointed with the food. It is a lovely building but very expensive. Food very much like café food but very expensive café food.
Outstanding venue and service. Rhian and her team could not do enough for us on our special occasion. Absolutely brilliant
Excellent quality, great service.

Can not fault anything, Sunday lunch a delight, mid week, just as impressive
Beautiful pub and church opposite.
Location is amazing, really nice stone work
Very good service and food
Food was very good and cracking service
We booked a table for two at the Old House, for a two course lunch.
The food, views, the building - all outstanding. Welsh rarebit, with an Italian influence - baked into a generous tartlet.
The Old House pie is the best Pie I've ever eaten out. Period. 10/10.
My wife really enjoyed her roast lamb dinner and commented on how nicely seasoned everything was.
What a fabulous gastro inn, with great staff who are engaging and friendly.
I took the liberty of taking some photos, without disturbing other guests. What's not to love?
We look forward to returning very soon. Thank you to those at The Old House 1147.
I'm also considering booking a room, breakfast & dinner - purely as a get away, in beautiful surroundings with fine food.
Had wanted to visit Old House 1147 for a long time but had been put off by the road to get there 🙈 Family arranged a meal (where I didn’t have to drive) and it was well worth the journey. Beautiful setting, delicious food, excellent value (2 courses £19.50, same standard food would likely be at least an extra 25% where we live in Bristol), service was fab not overbearing. I was really impressed (can you tell 😆). Journey from Neath wasn’t as bad as I thought although I’d probably not drive it myself. Only thing I wasn’t too impressed by was the Welsh rarebit/bruschetta, but there wasn’t anything wrong with it just not massively to my taste. The curry half/half was fab as was the pudding. Kids meal for £8, pretty decent. Would like to go back when the weather is better to make the most of the views!
A great out of the way pub come restaurant come hotel.
Great atmosphere in the pub and restaurant, mixing old with modern.
Food is excellent in the restaurant, priced in-line with most other places.
The hotel room was average, everything you needed, except WiFi, basically no connection through WiFi or 5G.
WiFi and 5G was fine in the rest of the establishment.
Excellent food, not so good service.
Highly recommend a visit for the excellent food they offer here. £18.50 for the two course lunch menu was good value given the quality.
Staff are a little hard to come by when you need them - I had to go looking a couple of times and they were all just chatting with the chefs in the kitchen. If they sort out the service this place would be brilliant.
Absolutely amazing place, lovely setting, great atmosphere, friendly staff and absolutely amazing food. Ordered the Old House Pie after debating between 2 dishes but a very good recommendation and good information from staff member Rhian helped make the mind up.
Everything was absolutely top notch from service to taste. 10/10 place.
Was there with a group of 5 from work. All our meals were lovely,
Nice location and ambient.
Beautiful place, staff very friendly can't do enough for you . The view whilst eating is beautiful. The food was absolutely delicious good price too! will definitely be visiting again .
Stayed away for work. The restaurant and food were delicious. The location is amazing. The staff were very welcoming and accomodating. The room I stayed in was lovely except the bed was a real let down - very springy and not comfortable.
Super evening with parents In-law, food exceptional, I had pigs in blanket followed by chicken linguine, washed down with local pale ale.
Excellent service and attention from our server Amber, I would recommend.
We had a lovely stay here last weekend as a birthday treat! Food was stunning, service was the best we’ve had in a long time and the bedroom was immaculately clean and peaceful. Will definitely return when we fancy a break closer to home.
Absolutely amazing food and views, well worth the drive also the staff and Tony very friendly and welcoming
Lovely pub and character with attentive staff. Despite a busy environment with lots of other groups and dealing our own party of 19 guests, wait times for service were minimal. Ample parking space although lanes to and from pub are single track for a large part of the journey. Menu choice for Sunday is Sunday lunch with a variety of meats to select and a vegetarian option, served with plenty of Vegetables. Sunday menu selection was simplistic. Choose a starter from the options available if wanted, Choose a main. Options for dessert if needed. Ample seating available and in Summer I imagine an outdoor option becomes available as well. Nice variety of drinks at the bar including non-alcoholic.
Would come again. If only to try the main menu.
Lovely Sunday lunch in the dog friendly bar. We booked in advance for the Sunday lunch, and we're glad we did. Food was excellent, the beef was lovely and the portions generous. Would definitely recommend and revisit.
Amazing food, friendly staff. Have already booked to go back. Highly recommended.
Great pub restaurant, lovely grounds for a sunny day and very nice indoors as well. Reasonably priced, great Quality and friendly staff.
Food was gorgeous and nice warm atmosphere and our waitress Nia brilliant
The Old House is outstanding. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food is superb! Stayed overnight with my partner for a birthday treat. The room was beautiful and very clean, and he'd arranged for a bottle of prosecco to be in the room for our arrival which was a lovely touch. The only downside was that the mattress wasn't particularly comfortable, but it didn't spoil our stay.
Breakfast was lovely, full English and continental served in the restaurant with a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside.
It's not a cheap place to eat, but it is worth every penny! I highly recommend a visit.
Amazing Sunday lunch with very efficient service as I have come to expect from the Old House. Looking forward to visiting again.
Visited the Old House for lunch and I cannot really fault this restaurant. The place, the food and service were amazing. The setting is also incredibly. Very wide choice of dishes from the 2 course menu at a very reasonable price and no service charge. Will definitely come back again.
Amazing night food was fantastic too freindl6 people and beautiful setting will be going back soon
Lovely views across the valley, and a really special old pub to visit. Sirloin steak was quite fatty and not as good as the price promised. Pan-fried sea bass was very good.
The most amazing place I’ve stayed
The views
The food
Sunday dinner was the best I’ve ever had
Staff amazing and friendly
Coming again soon 10-10
We had a one night stay here, arrived Friday afternoon, had a few drinks and then onto a meal the evening. Food was beautiful, and great service to top it off. Only negative was that the heating was on full and made it very uncomfortable, lots of rosy red faces in the restaurant. We stayed in one of the rooms underneath the pub, it was spacious and clean. Only negative on that was that the cleaner started at 0630 and hoovered the floors above the bedroom. Breakfast was a real disappointment, nearly every item was cold or just barely warm, it was a sad finish to the visit.
Stunning food and service BUT the noise in the conservatory was deafening and my husband and I could hardly hear each other which then made us shout - half the problem was the Rave type music which was banging in the background - not really your typical dining music !! Even the waiter commented on it. Will go again because the food was excellent but will book a different area - which I would have done had I known.
We were a party of 9, 5 were vegan with one gluten free. Admittedly there was limited options but we were all catered for. That's not always available elsewhere. Beautiful location and restaurant. Staff and service was super very friendly and efficient. The food was good we all enjoyed very much. Good potions and lovely presentation. Looking forward to visiting again asap.
Had a meal here with visitors from Colombia. After experiencing poor service at many other U.K. restaurants this year with several USA visitors we were wary of being embarrassed yet again with British service. Wow what an experience to restore our confidence in British (and glad it was Welsh) hospitality. The service was impeccable. The young staff were very polite and professional. With apparently 170 customers that night the staff excelled. The food was excellent and enjoyed by all. Fair pricing was the comment from all. Well done. We will return.
Food great had Sunday lunch was value for money all staff friendly and happy to help
Went for a lovely meal on 25th May. We pre booked. The journey from the Rhondda was very scenic and didn't take that long. The Old House was set in a beautiful village and spectacular views. Customer service was excellent and the food was delicious especially the cheesecake. We will definitely visit again.
Thoroughly enjoyed 😘, stunning food 🥩🍟. 💯 will definitely go again. 🏴
Sirlon steak 🥩 for mains & chips🍟 with pepper corn sauce.
Brownies for dessert with ice cream🍨 & fresh cream. the brownies are so good I forgot to take a picture ❤️
This is where my son and daughter in law was married. And I have to say the venue was awesome weather was great views stunning the food was amazing absolutely beautiful and the staff was just brilliant, polite so helpfull can't recommend this place enough we stayed there for two nights and nothing was to much trouble.so thank you the staff of the olde house you made the day perfect 👌 👍
Wonderful Wedding Venue.
We stayed here from Thursday 31st August till Sat 1st Sept for my Sons Wedding. From the moment we arrived the Staff were friendly, polite and could not do enough for the wedding party. On the day of the wedding everything went to plan, the quickness of the change from the room where the ceremony took place into the room for the Wedding breakfast was very smooth and it looked stunning, the food was delicious and plentiful. After the Wedding breakfast the room was transformed into where the evening entertainment was to take place and yet again this was done smoothly and without fuss, the evening food was just as nice and plentiful. All day the staff were on hand if you required anything extra and were only glad to help and they all had smiles on their faces even though it was a long and tiring day. The rooms were clean and had lovely views of the countryside.
We would give it more stars if we could, Thank you to the Old House 1147 for contributing to our Sons and Wife's Special day. It was perfect
Thanks
Tim and Maria
My now wife and I had our wedding at The Oldhouse 1147 last weekend, with half of our guests being from West London we stayed as guests for the entire weekend as well as of course for our Wedding on the Saturday.
Firstly, as guests at TOH, we arrived on the Friday afternoon and were allowed to check in as soon as the rooms were available which was great given most have travelled for hours. The rooms were all clean, tidy, spacious, well decorated and had plenty of complimentary tea & coffee facilities. All of our guests were immediately blown away by the spectacular views and enjoyed the afternoon in the garden. We enjoyed dinner as a large group on the Friday evening in the Cwtch which was so rustic, cosy and intimate. Everybody was very complimentary of the variety of meals we had from across the menu and all the staff looked after us fantastically well. This was a theme which would continue all weekend as the breakfasts we had the Saturday, Sunday & Monday as well as the Sunday lunch we enjoyed was all divine whilst being well looked after by the attentive and kind staff. Throughout our weekend I cannot speak highly enough of the staff, all were kind, courteous and nothing was a problem for them! I would highly recommend a meal or stay at The Oldhouse 1147.
On to our actual wedding, we booked TOH 1147 roughly thirteen (13) months in advance and met the venues wedding co-ordinator Laura prior to booking. Laura was brilliant from this initial meeting where she advertised The Oldhouse 1147 without overselling it and simply advising what could and could not be done which meant we had a true idea of what we wanted to do compared to other venues which oversold themselves. Laura was constantly available throughout the entire build up to our day, on text, phone or email, and was hugely helpful and a reassuring calming presence during the stressful moments. Having Laura as a sole identifiable point of contact was really helpful as we always knew who to check in with and who would see us through our day. Laura and the staff at The Oldhouse 1147 did the decorations for our wedding, with help from our florist The Dancing Daffodil, and did an amazing job bringing our vision to life, every turn around of the room was perfect and done in such good time. Throughout the day all of our guests were brilliantly looked after, all commenting on how beautiful the venue was and how attentive and kind the staff were whilst also being happy how quick service was at the bar! The food on the day was absolutely perfect and the portion sizes were extremely generous! We simply had a perfect day which was made so by the amazing staff and in particular Laura, we had a fantastic day and created memories that will last our entire lives. We would highly recommend anybody get married at The Oldhouse 1147 and we hope to attend a wedding as guests there in the future.
Overall, I would highly recommend visiting The Oldhouse 1147 for a meal, staying in the fantastic accommodation or having your wedding there. We can’t wait to return and will always be grateful to them for our amazing weekend, thank you so much.
A wonderful start to the Christmas holidays A special thanks to the young lady that made our evening special xx Demi T xxxx
You think the views good? Try the food! Just amazing. On my first visit I opted for the pie - very rare I order a pie but it blew me away! I’d struggle to order anything else now through fear of missing out. The gravy that came with it - unbelievable . Both bests I’ve ever had. Staff are super friendly too. This place is an absolute must visit.
The food you can not fault absolutely lovely. What I can’t understand that when two dine there for Sunday lunch you get the veg separate more than enough for two. But we dined there Sunday and the same amount of veg and gravy. Surely there should be more when I questioned the waitress I was told that’s the norm. And we were given extra gravy after asking. This is not putting the place or staff down but I felt it was strange
Visited on a Monday evening. Sat overlooking the beautiful countryside. I had minted lamb rump with crushed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, which was delicious. However, 2 had steak and wasn't cooked as requested. One was very tough and chewy. The waitress did ask if they wanted a new one, but this was declined as we had waited some time for our food in the first instance. Pavlova dessert was very nice, although a little too much cream for my liking. No money off was offered regarding the steaks. Well portioned meals, although not very cheap either.
Stayed here last minute for 3 nights. Never done an inn before but must say how impressed we were with the place, love what’s been done with the back as from the front you would have no idea what a beautiful back drop awaits you. Rooms are a good size, I would like to have seen an area to sit and do make up but loved the bath 🥰 the staff are what makes this place, all
Locals and care about what they do, the female chef was particularly awesome and enjoyed her breakfasts the most 🫶
Glad we stayed hope to see you again sometime 💕
Had a brilliant meal,,Rihanna, and Tom making sure everything was okay, and if we needed anything, the chef Vicky cooked everything to perfection and made the food on the plate look so appetising will be going again.highly recommend.
Had Sunday lunch which was gorgeous, desert was stunning we also enjoyed drinks in the garden after our food and the views did not disappoint, the only thing I wasn’t very impressed with was that one waitress was viciously chewing gum while taking out desert order another thing that wasn’t great was that we were never offered a drink on arrived nor at any point during our meal. But we would eat here again as the food was delicious
Absolutely outstanding meal, as a party of 16 of us the service was impeccable and the food was incredible! Everyone of us thoroughly enjoyed. The staff are so polite and friendly!
The grounds are beautiful and extremely well kept!
Thank you so much.
This was our first visit to The Old House 1147 since it's reopening (a few years ago). I should point out that we had visited this establishment on many occasions prior to it's refurbishment. We were eventually seated (15 minutes late) in what I could only describe as a large function room (with a very pleasant view of the countryside), for me a restaurant this is not. It was fully booked (and very hot - it was only 15°C outside). The Sunday lunch menu choice was reasonable, with prices a little higher than the norm locally. I had the cawl as a starter which I have to say was excellent as was the lemon & raspberry sundae for dessert, sadly certain aspects of the main course left a lot to be desired, all members of our party failed to eat the yorkshire pudding (very tough) as was the lamb. There was ample of all accompaniments (vegetables, gravy etc) and the service was quite reasonable (very pleasant staff) during what was obviously a very busy period. Would I revisit? Probably not, as I feel there's better within a short travelling distance.
Called on spec after visiting a family grave in the churchyard and was really amazed at the changes. It's nothing short of amazing! Fantastic, reasonably priced food, with a good range of options. Well worth travelling to.
Saw this on a social media site so booked up for a Sunday dinner beautiful place scenery was stunning sat on table waitress very helpful order beef dinner and turkey dinner and extra roasties food was served quickly with side veg and extra gravy food was hot and really tasty and the gravy was probably the best I have had will definitely go back for different meal
Went here for a special birthday meal - food did no disappoint! One of the best places to dine in South Wales!
Tasty lunch menu with a great choice . Best of all the desserts. It has to be the stuffed choux bun everytime 😋
Four people, each had two courses plus soft drinks and the bill was £76 with a tip.
Highly recommend
Well cared for by Tony and the staff. Never rushed but made welcome and looked after. Food was grand and views from the windows are outstanding. A lovely village restaurant
Went this evening for the first time, I had minted lamb which was perfect! Partner had the tomahawk steak, £57 and worth every penny, cooked to the chefs recommendations and was the best steak ever!! Will be returning
Another lovely Sunday Dinner, exceptional food and service. A warm welcome always with Gill and Wayne. Xx
Amazing restaurant, what a lovely evening, food was first class..Ffion was really engaging and made our evening top notch
Great venue especially for Sunday lunch delicious food and great service prices are reasonable too
Excellent Sunday lunch, great choice and quality and generous portions. Helpful and friendly staff, well worth a visit!
Really good, superb food but you might have to wait more than you would like for your meal. You are warned beforehand but believe it, it's not a sales ploy. Other than that, superb!
Stunning location with beautiful views. Four stars because the internet would not connect and the night manager wouldn’t pick up the phone. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Would return for sure.
Went here for the first time lovely place. Food was amazing. Lovely staff . Lovely views.
Beautiful rooms, beautiful food, lovely staff!
Lovely food, good choice, Sunday lunch but did not realise that they only did Sunday lunch and nothing on the main menu. But still had a nice time
Simply stunning Sunday roast.
Always love visiting. Fabulous buillding, decor, and always comd up trumps with the food. Def would recommend a visit
Just spent a night at the Old House , what a fantastic location.
If you stay here some rooms are 3 minutes drive away, about a 15 minute walk from the hotel, or there are rooms at the location , all the rooms are fantastic.
Food. Lunch very nice , maybe could do sandwiches or lighter bites
Dinner. Same menu just a little larger with extra items , see Specials board .
Breakfast. Not so good this would be the only let down limited offerings , that are not particularly cooked well , continental nice yogurt , few pastries and cereals.
Overall the Staff are excellent friendly and professional..
Just this past week we had a late check in our first night after travelling internationally from Canada. We stayed in a lovely 2nd floor apartment at the Old House that had a touch of modern decor and was tastefully decorated. The next morning as a result of being surrounded by the beauty of these accommodations, we decided to book a second nights stay. We had the pleasure of dealing with Rhian the first day and were greeted by Ffion the second day. Both were amazing and super friendly and helpful. The second night we stayed in the newer lower level and once again, it was super clean and amazing. There were various breakfast options and ours did not . Thank you so much and looking forward to our next stay when back in Wales!
Amazing!!

Loved the choice on the menu.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our waitress was very helpful.
Food was cooked well but chips are a little hit or miss. Plenty of parking and stunning views
Outstanding dinner, service and atmosphere, probably the best I’ve had around neath/swansea.
Great service, and fantastic food. Wide selection of mains and desserts. Scenery was amazing.
Fabulous quaint old Pub .. not spoilt by having a super modern in keeping extension built on the back .. lovely views ..

Went here to treat my wife for Mother's Day. Simply superb! The food was amazing and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. Definitely give this place a try.
Was surprised for my birthday 🎂 absolutely beautiful place stunning location. Staff were friendly and helpful and as for the food 10 out of 10 to kitchen. Would highly recommend thank you for making my day.
We had our wedding at The Old House in September and it was the most special day largely due to all the hard work from the amazing staff here, who couldn't do enough for us! All our guests were raving about the food and how great the bar staff were. We also spent two nights in their accommodation, the night before hiring out their new house down the road, which was so comfortable and spacious with loads of natural light for getting ready the morning of the wedding. Our wedding planner Laura was amazing throughout the entire process and on the day, she has so much experience and knowledge and we can't recommend her and The Old House enough!
Wonderful Everything👍
Recommended by ‘Gary’s eats’ and we were not disappointed.
All food perfectly cooked and presented….
Lamb and garlic Chicken were melt in the mouth.
Ridiculously generous portions and much much more than value for money at £20 for 2 courses.
Tucked away in a sleepy village, this little gem is well worth a visit.
Staff were absolutely fantastic and the food was really, really good.
We were made to feel welcome and appreciated.
We will definitely be having a return visit.
