Reviews of Malt Cross

Beautiful refurbished old Victorian Music Hall, with comfy seating, good food and an excellent beer range.
S. B.
A fantastic looking place, slightly hidden away up St James's Street. Nice range of beers on the go with its own unique layout, over two floors. Definitely worth several visits.
V. G.
Wow! What an amazing building!
Restored old music hall with lots of original features. Good selection of craft beers too.
Covid safe and test and trace implemented
A. F.
A cracking good pub with a good selection of beers, wines and spirits.
There is live music and entertainment on from time to time, check out their website for more information.
The place can get pretty busy towards the end of the week. It is a rather middle class clientele visiting and if you go earlier than the busy evening periods it is also family friendly.
There is an upstairs seating area which in my honest opinion superior to the downstairs section - purely just because of the view you get of downstairs from above. And you will be much closer to the very bright half glass roof.
L. C.
An old music hall that feels like you're inside an ancient ship. Great for Sunday lunch with fantastic live jazz. Family friendly and very chilled atmosphere
t. m.
Re-opened, excellent! Added a whole range of craft beers and no horrid changes. Several real ales on tap and craft cider now. For those that have not heard of this place before it is an old music hall with a classic glass arched roof, a upstairs balcony , a stage and tours of the basements ( no idea of what is down there). Always been a good place. Slightly dodgy wooden floor which is heavier people can feel moving but nice looking.
R. S.
Gorgeous venue with a brilliant atmosphere. Love the themed food and inclusive events celebrating local talent. Definitely recommend!
j. b.
Great find. Old music hall that has been transformed into a pub but still has events.eg gin festival and music. Has a studio downstairs and caves I think barman said but we just were in for an evening drink. Great atmosphere decent prices and much better than Weatherspoons over the road 🙂
A. L.
Great looking place with a good selection of drink but at 20:00 on monday the only food available was cheese burger and chips which was a shame.
M. R.
A great little find this place is, great genuine relaxed atmosphere and good beer choice. Went on a Sunday and only Roast Dinners available- having said that my Roast Beef was very nice. Have returned on a Saturday evening and the food menu is simple but the food is delicious, loved the pitted olives as a side dish. Worth seeking out. M
T. S.
Absolutely one of the best pubs in Nottingham. The building itself is fantastic and atmospheric. Good selection of real ales and my wife swears by the Malteasers hot chocolate! Food is decent if not a little expensive. If you can't tell I am a repeat customer......
S. B.
A lovely looking building, love the stage being elevated half way between ground floor and balcony.
R. M.
Lovely chilled out pub with interesting surroundings and good beer selection.
D. F.
Has a beer & carols event every Christmas-time which is amazing - very festive, a good laugh and makes you feel that bit more connected to other people. Beer was tasty.
S. L.
Great food. Lots of culture here. The falafel burger was EXCELLENT.
M. L.
Fantastic place, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. have been here for reunions with larger groups meeting or with the other half for a few beers each time it is excellent. Good range of lagers, ciders and ales, fod really good
L. W.
Great quiz Monday night. Got the lowest score but won a glass trophy for our efforts. Can't be bad. Also enjoyed beef and falafel burgers with chips
G. W.
This has helpful, friendly staff, good beer, camra discount and good food. The interior is fantastic. I highly recommend if you are in the area.

5 star simply for the amazing ambience. I've never been in a bar so beautiful, fairy lights everywhere and comfortable sofa seating downstairs. The drinks are a little bit on the expensive side but as a student I am more on a budget and they offer a student discount. While they only offer a couple of ciders, there's normally a nice one on such as seacider. Food is great and staff are extremely friendly.
D. d. R.
Excellent food and excellent service. Highly recommend.
B. N.
This was a great find. 1st time visiting, service was great- there was a sanitizing station- tables partially distanced. Went for Sunday roast. Food was delightful, veg was cooked to perfection, the pork loin tender with a crispy skin. The portions were generous, we had ordered with enthusiasm so we're able to take our left overs home. We went with kids and small plates for kids were generous also. I will definitely be returning.
L. G.
Not for profit run bar with a great atmosphere in a historic building. They run a weekly quiz on Mondays with guest hosts which is enjoyable and only a pound per person.
C. W.
Excellent food, great choice of exciting beers.
Thoroughly recommend this as the perfect venue to relax with friends, drink quality beer and enjoy delicious home-cooked food. The setting of the old music hall is quirky and fun.
Hope to come back for a guided tour in the future and see the caves when they're open.
p. b.
Nice place on many floors. Different events on different days. Food is basic and fine. They were good about my gluten free needs.
A. U.
Good food, nice venue, especially for lunchtime.
S. B.
This former Victorian music hall is one of the best all round bar venues in Nottingham, in my opinion. Very atmospheric, at it keeps a lot of its old music hall charm. This child friendly bar offers a great selection of beers, nice food and you can even enjoy coffee and cakes in what is a very eclectic place. There is live music, occasional site tours and all sorts of things going on. Give it a try I don't think you will be disappointed in this hidden gem.
M. B.
Fantastic pub, with superb beer. Cannot recommend highly enough!
B. S.
Beers good. I like the building too
M. W.
Great choice of beer and the best hot chocolate anywhere.
W. D.
We love it here. Great food and we hire the snug for a little gathering perfect. Always come again .
W. P.
Great jazz on a Sunday evening in a unique and beautiful location. Great selection of beer and food too.
G. A.
Met my wife here, love the place. Went there today for a quick drink. Had the Jaipur Beer, packs a punch :D So pleased it didn't stay shut. It's a wonderful pub with the most amazing architecture. A hidden gem of Nottingham.
B. G.
Lovely pub and a wonderful place to while away an afternoon with a pint and a book. They have a massive selection of beers and gins available all at quite reasonable prices. They have a space upstairs which is available for hire (for free) and a free library where you "pay it forward", swapping books in and out. This place is my first call if I'm randomly heading into town and have some time to kill!
G. S.
Fantastic pub. Great atmosphere and ample seating. The staff are nice and quick to serve you, they also know what they're selling so you can ask them about what's on and how it is. There's a section upstairs with boardgames which is always fun when mixed with alcohol. It's a shame that they've announced they they've closed but let's hope it's only a temporary thing and someone else steps into the breach to run it like how it's been ran for so long.
D. K.
Really nice ambience and a good ale selection too. They dim the lights about 8pm, for more of a "night life feel".
Didn't get to try the food here, but have always been impressed with it.
Ignore the building works outside, this place is open.
A. F.
They’re really doing their best here because they give back to the community and give a lot to charity. They can frequently be out of certain foods but I won’t blame them. The food they do have is good. They have great events like quiz and folk music night. We went to a little funk? concert there and had a great time. Really fun place to hang out.
R. C.
Good food and friendly staff, quite limited choice on the menu but it arrived quick and there was more than we both expected.
E. T.
Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Good selection of beers. They also hold lots of fun events and support the community. We went to a Beer and Carols last December and it was awesome!
E. Y.
Gorgeous and very generous Sunday lunches! Don't have breakfast beforehand!! 💗 Good wheelchair access and accessible toilets, of which there are two. I find the basement level one is more salubrious as the one on the ground floor is used by staff. Sadly, never a good thing!!
S. B.
I think the Malt Cross is one of the most charismatic bars in Nottingham! Great beer selection, always. Food simple but very tasty, even do tea and cake. Nice atmosphere and the decor of the former music hall is just brilliant I personally love it. Offers many different events so give it a try I would thoroughly recommend. Maybe not for everyone, but I'd recommend you check it out if you're in the area.
E. H.
Lovely, characterological pub. Busy on a Friday and Saturday night with lots of atmosphere. Nice for an afternoon drink or bite to eat on the quiet mezzanine. All profits go to charity I think, which is great. A little bit pricier then some other local pubs but is nicer then others.
Generous serving of olives.
Everyone I've been with has been equally impressed
S. n. D. N.
Fantastic night and the Irish music provided by the visiting music group made me feel like I was in southern ireland
A. S.
Visited this place a few times and its always so lovely. Have a great stock of different and new alcoholic beverages to try. Unfortunately never ordered food so can not comment on it. Would recommend
A. C.
Great food and drinks in a lovely atmosphere. They have space for groups but are also good for couples or solo dining. Be sure to check out the caves below and learn more about the history if the pub which is really fascinating. They also have a lot if great activities like life drawing and open mic nights.
A. M.
A marvellously scrumptious Sunday lunch, definitely more than enough on your plate and board, amazingly flavourful combinations. We had absolutely no room for desserts, unfortunately!! The service was excellent, such friendly and welcoming staff. Would highly recommend!
M. S.
Well worth a visit as this is one of the two remaining Victorian music halls in Nottingham. Very friendly staff and very good standard of food. However, be patient as food is cooked to order. Toilets some of the best in town.
Worth looking at the events that go on. I can definitely recommend the Gin Tasting.
s. h.
If you like to appreciate a place you are sitting in you will not be disappointed it has that magic old world charm. Good selection of real ales. Early Sunday evening live jazz band not that I am into jazz but it was pleasant. Next time I am in town I may head there and maybe try the food.
S. C.
Very quirky interior. Bar food slightly more expensive than some chains but seemed ok. Good selection of teas and coffees as well as usual bar choices. Run as community pub so feel good element built in. Didn't visit upstairs or cave tours so plan to return.
S. L.
Good selections of ales and craft beers. Good has been tasty whenever I've tried it. Very unique decor and atmosphere, it's a good music venue too. A must visit in Nottingham
T. P.
Lovely little pub in a great building. This former music hall is light and airy with a good selection of drinks. We didn't try the food, but what we saw of it looked good. It's a nice community oriented establishment, a pleasant change from the typical chain pub.
J. M.
A gem of a pub, tucked away down a side street. It's humble doorway belies the beautiful interior, with balcony and glass roof.
Good selection of cask & craft beers and loads of good gins.
Didn't eat but others were and it looked good.
W. R. (.
This is a beautiful little old music hall. The open space and ceiling is wonderful. They have a great range of beers, good food (although this stops early in the evening) and coffees. Live music and entertainment is shown regularly. My favourite place in Nottingham. It is run my a local church so all of the profits go to local charities.
G. H.
The barman, when I asked him which bitter he recommended, asked if I preferred hoppy or malty, offered me two samples unasked, and showed the small display bottles for assessing colour. I can honestly say this has never happened to me before, and left a great impression - as did their 'house beer'. The place has a huge arched, glazed roof which makes it spacious and bright. On the minus side the furniture is in places a bit dilapidated, and the 'open mic' music on that wednesday needed a bit more rehearsal perhaps, but it's in keeping with the past of the venue and pubs must do 'special' nights to survive. Overall, a unique place and very worthy of support. The food looked good too, and seemed popular.
A. H.
A fantastic wonderful place, full of character, atmosphere and kind generous staff too. Admirable that they support local arts groups with comfortable facilities. In the heart of the city.
I was there as part of the improv group that meets weekly.
Some places that host workshops or groups can be very drab and unwelcoming. Not the Malt Cross. It makes it so convivial that you feel you just have to come and share a pint or 2 after a couple of hours mucking around - er! Hard creative work.
I really enjoy going there.
Great place, many thanks.
A. F.
Nice enough pub, looks great and pints aren't a bad price but really strange atmosphere - it's a pub, but the DJ is so loud you can't have a conversation, but nobody is dancing... Just standing shouting at eachother to try and have a conversation! So if you like your DJ's I recommend checking this place out - if you're just looking for a quiet drink or a boogie, there are other joints around town.
S. K.
A hidden gem of a bar with a great atmosphere and often live music.
The malt cross is located just off the Nottingham market square. Its a great small bar with a reasonable selection of drinks and even does food at times. The atmosphere is usually genial and at times very busy. It's a popular place on a weekend evening. The food is not something I can currently comment on but the frequent live music on the 'stage' is a welcome relief from generic music.
All in all this a great place to go for a good time. Just know that it can busy.
C. S.
Fab atmospheric pub steeped in history! The old music hall settings really are worth seeing, and there is always a good selection of beer and cake on offer. Much more than a pub, it's a great venue for the arts.
S. W.
Great atmosphere and food all whilst listening to live music!
A. B.
I think the Malt Cross is a really interesting place, it is a very old victorian dance hall managed by a consortium of churches in Nottingham so it's a social enterprise. The building is beautiful and there's a lot of room. I also really liked the beers they had on offer, some of them were local ales. I had some food as well, the pizza chips. It was a huge portion - for sharing so there were a lot of them but it was very tasty.
Y. P.
A really lovely little bar tucked away that it would be very easy to never even walk past it!
It's a really beautiful building with a huge domed glass roof and antique interior, I'd recommend it if you've got people over to visit and you want to show off the secrets of Nottingham.
Staff were very friendly and they offer a nice range of beers, ciders and ales as well as some appetizing looking foods!
I. L.
Came here for a wedding reception. The place was gorgeous and looked stunning. A quirky little pub with plenty of characteristic. Drinks were standard prices and all staff were friendly and helpful!
C. B.
Great place! Good entertainment. Delightful in every possible way.
K. R.
Lovely Victorian setting. It was calm enough at noon on a Monday for lunch. The staff were so helpful. The food wasn't quick but it was definitely worth it. Really generous portions with something for everyone. Vegan friendly. "Fish finger" sandwich and the croque senor in particular went down a storm.
I would definitely recommend this to others.
J. S.
Great pub. Really tasty food at a decent price, friendly staff. Always hosting different events so something for everyone. Pub quiz on a Monday is a particular highlight. Not for profit pub with great values too
P. M.
The Malt Cross is a charity run venue so is well worth supporting. It is a lovely old building with a glass roo, throwing plenty of light on the architecture of the place. It has a shop attached and also does workshops downstairs. A good choice of beers. This is usually a peaceful oasis in the busy city
D. w.
Fantastic bar with great range if beers. Historical building with amazing roof and even has museum in the caves below. Often has live music which is performed on stage which the bar and mezzanine have great view of
M. R.
Converted theatre with character and charm. Drinks and ale are good as are the friendly and helpful staff. The high ceiling, balcony and open space provide casual talking topics. Well worth a visit.
T. D.
Good pub that branches out into non-alcoholic drinks (think tea, coffee, chocolate) and pastries during the day as well as better than average lunch. Interesting history to this pub as it used to be concert hall and this can be seen in the architecture that they've maintained. It has a very nice layout that makes it particularly popular with couples and groups. On some nights they'll have live music that definitely makes it stand out from the other pubs in Nottingham. A cut above most pubs so I would recommend to anyone looking for drinks at any time of the day.
P. G.
A historic music hall type pub serving a good selection of real ale and hosting music events on the small raised stage. Has an upstairs balcony with seating, which overlooks the main pub area and stage. A few shops down in the basement during the day and they hold small events and fairs down there too. They serve food too. Would be 5 stars but the staff can be very slow at serving drinks at the bar. When it is very busy at a weekend they need to show more urgency.
M. T.
There's not many places you can get a full roast dinner as good as this! (not sure is they do it every day) it's really nice to see a roast dinner that still has plenty of different types of vegetables cooked well with the usual stuff, really adds to the meat, Yorkshire, stuffing, etc.
The atmosphere was pretty busy but definitely got to be one of the most interesting buildings in Nottingham, with the lower gents toilets literally being built in a cave... Good drinks too! Staff were nice!
P. E.
Excellent, a visit to the basement is a bonus.
J. D.
Went to a Steam Punk afternoon which was well organised and well attended. Fun had by all! Drinks were good but we didn't eat there. Unique venue in the heart of Nottingham. There was a tea duelling competition too!
K. E.
I love the malt cross! The staff has always been absolutely lovely to me and you don't have to wait long to be served. The building is beautiful with loads of period features, free books, papers and games, and the food is very nice too, I've never had a bad meal there. Curly fries esp are excellent.
D. G.
Fantastic pub which I always try and visit when I'm in Nottingham. It offers a good beer selection and tasty food.
The staff are always friendly and welcoming. It's up there as one of the best bars in Nottingham in my humble opinion.
I. W.
Proper pub. 7 real ales from mainly independent brewers.
Unusual old world interior of wood panelling, ornate railings & bannisters and glass panelled ceiling with ornate metal pillars.
It's a 'proper'. Just some unobtrusive background music but a relaxed feel with people just chatting, creating a good background hubbub.
Food is limited to sarnies, salads & ploughman's. Need to make some effort on this front to make it a bit more of an all rounder. Nothing fancy required. Limited menu of wholesome food.
Closed down for a whole recently. This is a character pub that deserves to be supported.
Definitely include it in your pub crawl
N. D.
Glad it’s back. Cannot fault the beers/food. The bar staff take the time to get to know you. Guide your choices if unsure of what to have. I would vote it one star to keep the crowds away but that’s unfair to a great pub and the good work they do for Nottingham.
P. C.
Great place for everyone a Christian owned pub a bistro that's value for money and friendly. Fabulous live bands quizzes and grown up entertainment.
Only downfloor is it could be cleaner. If it was it would have be a 5 star.
j. n.
Somewhat changed over the last 30 years, , the bar is on the other side now, the stage is still there, downstairs has been revamped.Beers,Ciders , Gins all on sale below the fantastic glass roof . Which is worth a visit alone.
S. M.
Went for a company party and the service was superb! Food was incredible, so generous on quantities provided, the vast array of drinks available meant everyone was spoilt for choice, staff couldn't do enough for us and ensured everything was cleaned up and taken out of our way afterwards as well. Beautiful building, especially up on the balcony. All added up to an awesome evening and would recommend this place without any hesitation 😊
A. C.
Coffee was great! Entrance smelt very strange indeed.... Large party upstairs but didn't realise until I was up there, could have done with a not to save embarrassment?
D. P.
Friendly relaxing city pub in a former music hall - sometimes live music
R. P.
Lovely decoration, it used to be a Victorian music hall; good food, great drink options (both alcoholic and hot drinks) and awesome cakes - I love their brownies. Plus live music and a charitable heart, as profits are given away and you can buy hot drinks for those in need.
D. M.
Pretty fine place. Well priced food (and drinks), a good atmosphere and friendly staff.
Easily usable website with lots of events to pick and choose from. Food was very nice. The beautiful setting makes the experience.
J. B.
Good selection of quirky ales. Vibrant atmosphere. Plus decent bar staffing and speed to serve. Also the locale is unique. Would recommend for a cheeky ale.
S. D.
This place has come under new ownership recently so I was interested to visit for lunch. Other than a new paint job it isn't looking too different (which is a good thing as it has a good laid back vibe). The selection of ales, lagers and hot drinks is still very good with the main change seeming to be the menu. The menu is now more pub/home comfort classics done well. I had a sausage and bean casserole and my wife had some kind of a vegan burger (falafel and halloumi I think) in a wheat free bun. Both were great and I could have had veggi sausages if I'd wanted. Well with a visit
G. W.
A not-for profit community venue that has food and drinks to rival anywhere else in Nottingham. Nice relaxed atmosphere, perfect for day time study or chilling with a book. Will be visiting regularly again.
V. C.
Charming indie hidden in central Nottingham. Great food, interesting events, and strong social justice background. Didn't get to try Gin caves downstairs, but had a delicious dinner and interesting drinks. Friendly place with history and a conscience.
E. B.
Great bar in the centre of town. Beautiful old dance hall converted into a bar with glass ceiling. Usually has a good range of beers on tap.
C.
Love this place! Great atmosphere, plenty of events and live music on, and nice food. Friendly staff, Beautiful venue, it's always a pleasure to visit- the connected shop is always worth a visit to buy goods from independent and local suppliers.
P. F.
Great food and service. Real effort to make it a pub that stands out. Prices are pretty high but you get what you pay for.
A. R.
Beautiful, historic music hall that is a jewel in Nottingham's crown. Good selection of ales in genuinely unique surroundings. Check out the glass roof!
T. D.
Beautiful building! Go inside just to look at the room its like stepping into a 1930's music hall. You can grab a coffee in the day, a beer (other alcoholic beverages are available) in the evening and food all day. They have some cool things going on: Monday's are life drawing if you want to test your skillz; last Sunday of the month is a Jazz Jam; and there's an ace record shop in the basement!
M. M.
Upmarket but inclusive Christian-owned city centre pub/bar with fabulous Victorian interior decor. Decent range of real ales and craft beers with full complement of all other drink types too - particularly good for teas. During the day functions as a quieter cafe-ish venue compared to the busy evening scene. Upstairs balcony seating (including secluded snug area) overlooks the main downstairs room which has space for live performances. Basement hosts rentable rooms and art gallery; further down the sandstone cellars are yet another old Nottingham cave. Regular well-regarded pub quiz every Monday eve.
R. G.
On of my favourite pubs in Nottingham. Always a great atmosphere and excellent selection of beers, ciders, wines, and spirits. Also great for tea, coffee, and hot chocolate during the day.
D. W.
An absolute gem in the Nottingham bar scene, and a must try for anyone visiting the City. Fun and quirky.
Beautiful inside, with super tasty food and a solid collection of beer and spirits.
If you can catch a live band there it will make your week.
J. J.
A step back in time. Delightful surroundings of the old time music hall era. it's a wonderful product that had painstakingly been restored to its former glory. I found the prices more expensive than I thought they should be hence 4 stars. But even then it was an experience not to be missed.
B. M.
I like the atmosphere a lot. Over 4 years, half of the bartenders apparently never heard of a "jack daniels and coke" so I have to explain what it is. Othereise, a nice, lively place.
J. R.
The re-opened Malt Cross continues the chilled vibe of the previous incarnation with a welcome to families and kids but offers better service. great building, very much a traditional pub but offers coffee, cake and food too.
E. R.
Nice characterful place. With a variety of different beers and gins. Good for a catchup with great food and nibbles. But I found it being quite expensive.
I. G.
Very characterful and friendly pub. Large choice of beers, and would get 5 stars if not for the odd choice not to have but sadly anything in the "traditional malty bitter" type.
G. T. 1.
Lovely old building with an open plan to a high glass panel roof and dotted with ornate pillars. Balcony upstairs with tables and chairs as is the ground floor . Bands and DJ'S at times - can be busy as it's just a few yards from the Old Market Square/centre of Nottingham.
B. O.
A nice place to grab some drinks right after work. However not the most relaxing or comfortable of spots as the chairs are much more about gathering around more friends than getting comfortable.
R. P. W.
One of the last remaining Victorian Music Halls in the UK, The Malt Cross is a beautiful example of how an historic site can be adapted for a contemporary audience. Now run as a charitable trust, a visit to this glorious site will give something back to the community too. Excellent Hot Chocolates too!
P. W.
Fantastic victorian music hall bar with wonderful food and drink. Great atmosphere and as a charity they are giving back to the people of Nottingham with innovative projects like Street Pastors.
A. N.
Great choice of drinks. Fast service even in busy times, and a really interesting atmosphere thanks to the architecture of being an old music hall. Deffo worth a visit!
F. L.
Great pub with joyful and relaxed atmosphere. Very good selection of bottled and tap beers. Would recommend for a drink with friends and family.
E. G.
I love this place! Great place for a quiet drink and a catch up, beautiful old music hall well looked after.
Zero waste shop adjoining which is a great addition
A. C.
A lovely traditional building, craft beers ,not expensive with a great atmosphere with friendly staff. They have little groups playing traditional Irish music and more
J. C.
I luv coming here and have done for a long time. I have to use a disabled toilet cannot use the stairs so as normal today went to the toilet at side of the bar, never been a problem before. As I went in was told toilet is upstairs, I said I always use this as cannot use stairs. Was told that toilet isn't nice. Felt upset but used toilet anyway. Came out to now see door "staff only"on side near mens loo has disabled sticker under it. Confused or what? Please cater properly for your disabled customers.
H. L.
Very relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, but the drinks are ridiculously expensive. Very limited food menu, although it did look good. Wouldn't rush back there.
W. G.
Was here for a carols at the Cross event today and had a great time. Atmosphere was both welcoming and festive while the choice of drinks was selective but varied (by this I mean that their relatively small area constrains the amount that they offer, but what they do have isunusual and rotates often).
A. P.
Most brilliant business model out there for a Pub. A community charity, not for profit organisation that serves quality food and drinks, in a dynamic environment which includes music, craft fairs etc.
Congratulations!!
J. C.
Fantastic atmosphere and stunning venue. Nice food and good drink selection. Staff were brilliant. Will definitely return.
O. M.
I often visit the Malt Cross for a midweek drink. It's a really nice place to relax, old victorian styling with a huge glass ceiling, very historic with quirky decor.
They have a range of beers and the do the camra stuff too.
Awesome pork sratchings which they give you in a huge stein.
Often busy at the weekends as it is a popular place and it's good for groups as they have large booths to seat up to about 10 people.
Quite expensive as it targets the upscale market, but not cripplingly so.
Hidden away up St. James Street it's never usually got any idiots in.
L. M.
Best bar/coffee place in Nottingham. Really great environment to work or study in during the day and has great live music and atmosphere at night. Best hot chocolate in Notts to!
S.
A real diamond in the rough located just off Nottingham's market square. This former Victorian music hall retains much of its original style and class in its current incarnation as boozer/eatery/art gallery. Plenty of food choices for vegans and meat-eaters alike, a huge selection of leaf teas and beers, and a lovely atmosphere to consume it all in.
S. R.
Absolutely delightful, beautiful place, lovely food, fabulous staff, highly recommended !
D. P.
Great place a quite drink and chat ,also good for non drinkers good selection of food and cakes , value for money could do with some better seating .
A. M.
Lovely place with friendly staff and a great bar/sandwich menu along with a wide range of ales on tap. Great environment but sometimes hard to get a seat when busy.
J. R.
A really nice place to go to meet people. A nice atmosphere and from what my friends had it looked like amazing food too. The portions were very good.
R. H.
I really like it here. Very nice building, good beer friendly staff, good music (which isn't too loud). The food is a bit expensive but it's not really a food place.
N. P.
Wonderful atmospheric pub, with an amazing history! Restored back to how it looked in its musical hall hayday, the Malt Cross offers a tour including visiting the caves several floors below!
E. F.
Great bar. Artisan and local alcoholic drinks, hot drinks also available. Building is very cool, was a victorian dance hall, alot of original features.
R. W.
Went for the first time New Years Eve music completely different from all the others, sort of 70s/80s jazz, live Caribbean band not playing Reggae, great, I don't like Reggae, oh no, room to dance on ground floor, will have to go on a regular night for a true review.
C. W.
A little pricey but excellent service and a beautifully maintained interior with an authentic and historic vibe. The people who serve me are always proper friendly and welcoming - make sure to ask for the generous student discount.
R. E.
Lovely place for beer and food, beautiful surroundings
h.
Awesome bar, really well decorated. Pints are pretty pricey but worth it for the feel of the place, upmarket. Think the profits go to charity too
I. P.
I just love this place. Great ales great atmosphere chilled music mood lighting at night. Unique location. Don't go there. I want it all to myself.
D. W.
