Had a meal with a large group here on January 27th. The set meal they provided was very good, tasty & well presented even though they were catering for 35+ people and had another large gathering at the same time. Very friendly & helpful staff. Would recommend.

I booked and stayed at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel a couple of weeks ago.
The booking process was easy and simple. On arrival the receptionist, Julie, was very welcoming in checking me and my family in, arrange the taxi to get us to a great restaurant we would be going to the same evening. Inside we were helped with getting our luggage to our room and also any other places outside of the Hotel that would be of good service. It was also nice the way Julie checked us out and was especially polite in asking how our stay was and if we enjoyed the service we received? We will definitely return again and recommend to anybody else on their stay in Plymouth!

Had Christmas day lunch here and it was absolutely sublime. The food, the atmosphere and the staff were all perfect. I couldn't recommend The Duke of Cornwall enough. Amazing 11/10

We really loved our stay for 1 night here it’s a beautiful hotel the staff were lovely and very helpful there was only a superior room left so we booked the room which didn’t really seem any different to a standard room but was lovely and clean the only issue we had the bed was very uncomfortable including the pillows which I don’t think have been changed for a very long time the mattress has a dip in the middle I’m assuming it’s a very old mattress there was an event going on at the hotel late at night so there was abit of noise was quite disturbing as it was outside they were making quite a lot of noise overall me and my boyfriend didn’t get a lot of sleep other than that everything else good i think it just needs an upgrade on pillows and mattresses

Great place. Our room was very big and comfy. Dogs friendly. Lovely place for dogs next to the hotel. Not far to the see side and also to the city centre. Highly recommended 👌 👍 👏 💯

We stayed at this lovely hotel for 1 night. We had an amazing 3 course meal in dining room...absolutely delicious.
Staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Room was very clean...shower was amazing...powerful and hot. The only thing was that the bed wasnt comfortable at all.
Apart from that fabulous and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Great location to everything. Pavillion theatre next door.

It's a beautiful old victorian hotel with the most amazing grade 2 listed spiral staircase..close to the town and harbour. The rooms were clean and comfy but if your looking at ultra modern this is not the place for you.The hotel does have a car park at the rear but its £5.00 per day even for hotel guests which is a bit annoying It's dog friendly at £10.00 per night.Breakfast was adequate and the staff were lovely.
D. R.
Very welcoming staff, food was ok. Could do with improvement and better portions for the price. Very clean place and comfortable.
P. H.
Perfectly situated if, as we were, you are visiting Plymouth Pavilion. We could see the venue just across the road from our room. Lift was "being serviced" or more likely, broken but we were travelling light. Generally the hotel had an air of under investment but was clean, if dated. Breakfast was nice and staff were lovely.

OK people here we go. We stayed over the last weekend in a superior room and with half board. So from the go, great value all round. The room, not bad at all, it is an old hotel and there are areas that show this but it was good. Slept well, that's always a plus. And now for the food which is always on peoples minds. I would call it a covid dinner menu. Simple but effective. Not bad at all, breakfast good, again not bad at all. As for the staff, very polite and the breakfast manager was funny. So over all a good stay. 👊👊🕺💃chin up folks and keep up the good work.

Great to stay there after 2 years. Lovely staff. Hotel in a good position for visiting Plymouth. My favourite hotel. Love it.

Lovely hotel has a lot of old features. Food good, hotel clean and staff very nice. Room was good size, bathroom beautiful. Not much of a view as one of the windows partially blocked and couldn't open. On the hole a very pleasant stay.

The grand Old Duke of Cornwall offers an enjoyable and comfortable stay. The staff are very helpful and go over and above to make your visit as unique as the building.
S. H. T.
The hotel was old charm and class. The staff were so lovely and helpful. We had a slight problem with old rattling windows on the top floor that the hotel should have prepared us for that could have been solved before the problem started however, the night manager was a pure gem and sorted our issue immediately even after I was short with him. So I can't hold that against the hotel as our stay was so nice. I just recommend that they are up front about window issues as the hotel is old but a paper wedge will do the trick! Don't let that put you off the hotel is quite lovely 👌Food was very nice and beds were comfortable.
K. K.
Definitely a little old fashioned, but maybe that’s why we liked it? It felt like stepping back in time. The entrance and stairwell are quite grand too!
We didn’t stay for breakfast, but instead chose to head off to a cafe.
Will definitely be back as it’s a great location!

2 would be harsh as the staff and food are nice. Rooms are awful, unless you upgrade. We were offered a horrible dark box room, next was brighter but it is so old and dusty. Not dirty but ingrained with age. Lift was broken, could be taken in the service lift, we were on 5th floor, hubby has AF so not ideal. Travelzoo let us down a bit this time. Staff don't get tips if added to card payment. Thats a cheap move by the management in my opinion. Good location.

Warm and cosy. Amazing staircases and interior decor. Traditional , still like the Olde days .
R. B.
Quiet hotel despite being in the centre of the city, pleasant staff, comfortable room, excellent breakfast. Will definitely return.
S. H.
Second time staying here. A very grand hotel with special character , very posh. Staff very polite and friendly.
s.
Lovely hotel wouldn't stay anywhere else feels like home was very sick and service and support from staff was excellent thank you 😊 🙏
J. W.
Had a lovely stay the staff are warm and friendly always pleased to help you the breakfast was lovely would highly recommend
M. C.
Lovely old hotel. A very spacious room, comfy bed and clean bathroom. Breakfast was good and the staff excellent. We will be staying here again.
A. W.
Nice hotel, very comfortable. Really helpful staff and good breakfast to start the day.
£5 for car parking was a surprise as alot of hotels I've stayed in offer free parking, but £5 to park over night is not to bad, just make sure you pop your reg number on the screen at reception.
Will stay again when in the area.
D. F.
Excellent hotel in the centre of Plymouth love it staff good. Fair priced with parking .
S. P.
Great grand old hotel. In need of some work but that's part of the charm. The staff are exceptional and the food is also very good
P. T.
Got a really good pre-show 3 course meal here. The Pavilions is just across the road.
S. D.
Staff very helpful and breakfast was lovely.
All new rules in place.
Room was big and in need of some tlc. But that was the character of the hotel
Parked opposite in the car park no issue as hotel car park full and small.
Very limited menu for dinner.
Starters were lovely and Husband pork was nicely cooked but my fish was dry.
Waitresses very friendly and attentive.
J. B.
Love the Duke of Cornwall. Shabby chic and cheerful. Dont expect perfection but it's comfortable and good value for money. Beds were very soft but surprisingly comfy and had really good nights sleep. Location perfect for town and sea. Breakfast OK. Sausage, mushrooms and hash brown was deep fried which I don't particularly like. Staff were lovely and friendly. I've stayed here a few times and always enjoy it.
P. M.
It needs so much money spending on the rooms it's probably not viable to do so unfortunately. I wouldn't stay here again .good staff and location and plymouth is lovely
H. R.
Great Hotel which breathes the grandeur of former times. Sadly the shower was an automatic cold/hot type...
K. M.
FINALLY re-opened after being closed down and now with new owners. This was the FIRST luxury hotel in the 1860's with it's own train station!!!!
Accomodation comfortable and , to some extent renovated.
The new owners have already promised to renovatie the original outside and also inside where needed.
Great place to stay long or short breaks.....oh and bring your hound, they are more than welcome hier.
My advice if your taking a break you should think of Plymouth by the sea and stay in a 'old' world modern hotel.
Eventueel also accomodatie, famed for the best wedding you can buy!!!!
J. A.
Friendly and prompt check-in, accommodating for cyclists with bike storage available.
Superior double room was spacious, although the interior decor doesn't match the finesse of the exterior. Has a great heritage feel to it, though.
j. s.
Very enjoyable. Thank you for looking after our friends from California
M. B.
Lovely stay over night. Friendly staff. Dinner and Breakfast were delicious. Good large room, only downside as an old building the windows in our room let the cold air and high winds come through. Wpyld still highly recommend a stay.
L. A.
Nice hotel. Fairly clean, the receptionist that dealt with us seemed nice. However, a couple of the waiting staff in the evening and the same ones in the morning were miserable. The other waiting staff were lovely and friendly. Food was delicious but the table linen was not clean and had not been replaced from previous customers( stains and crumbs on the table). The only other gripe would be lack of parking space at the back and the wife in our room didn't work. Would expect more for our money but would come back again.
R. P.
Great service gorgeous rooms the hotel is beautiful BUT .... you will be charged £5 a day to park in the carpark if your lucky enough to get a spot if not its the street I'm afraid
J. M.
Really clean hotel, lovely staff, nice environment
T. L.
Lovely comfortable hotel, well placed for the Home and Barbican
D. S.
Amazing hotel, love the character and they got Stella on tap, win win
R. B.
Great for a put up after a late ferry arrival. Lots and lots of stairs. The lift was broken and we were on the fourth floor. Parking easy to find. Bar snacks were good value. Bar staff were testing. Room was clean, facilities all worked as they should and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was English and came with decent coffee. Now if that lift had been working and the barman had not been such an arse add a star.
M. H.
A very grand hotel with lot's of character but very well presented inside a very good place to stay staff very polite and friendly
P. P. L.
I love this hotel and I had no idea why. The lift was out of order and some of the public areas are, perhaps, a little tired but the friendliness and support of the staff who couldn't do enough to make your stay as easy and welcoming as possible will live long in the memory. Thank you and I am looking forward to returning later this year with my wife for a short break. Love the hotel and the city.
C. E.
Very helpful staff food ok breakfast a bit space, clean and tidy hotel
D. J.
A cl and professionalean and comfortable room and en suite, and a well organised and implemented Covid regime with plenty of sanitization carried out and hand gel available throughout. The staff at front of house and in the restaurant were helpful and cheerful in spite of the restraints placed on them. It's location was great for my visit.
A. L.
Excellent experience. The room was spacious and very comfortable with a fantastic shower.
Location excellent although limited free parking (understandably for a city centre hotel).
Plenty of choice on the breakfast, with fantastic, very friendly service.
Bar had a good choice of drinks.
All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
The history of the hotel and the original details made the stay even more enjoyable.

If you want somewhere with a bit of atmosphere, this is the place. Built in the 1800's it is showing its age a bit but that's part of the charm. A lot nicer than a Travel Inn. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Large clean rooms, ours had a lovely large bathroom with a shower and bath. Not double glazed so there is a bit of street noise and not the best views, but then it is in the city center, near the port.
P.
Friendly staff, excellent food and impressive historic hotel. I recently stayed at The Duke of Cornwall for a week while attending a course nearby. The location was ideal being within walking distance to Royal William Yard and the city centre. Breakfast is very good and all cooked to order. The food in the restaurant was also excellent. Looking forward to my next visit this week!
A. D.
Good clean rooms, very accommodating for dogs 🐕 (alaskan malamute). Would definitely stay again.
G. B.
Checked in on Saturday for 1 night through booking.com. Had a message day before that there lift was out of order and if we needed they could arrange to have a room lower down, thought this was great!Young receptionist was lovely and very helpful when checking in. Our room was spotless and perfect for a night away, not too far but not too close from the main town, would reccomend!
C. G.
Clean hotel, with a comfy bed and lovely, kind staff. Decor is a bit outdated. The shower in our room was a rainfall shower, it was more like a light drizzle and was difficult to actually wash your hair or get clean. The room service was really prompt and the food was cooked really well, I had omelette and chips for £11, wasn't the cheapest but it did taste lovely. Breakfast was simple, could order cooked food or have porridge, cereals or fruit, so good selection.
D. S.
Great hotel.
Good location
Lovely building
Nice room
Has a bar that does good food.
Really friendly and helpful staff.
Will go back.
T. B.
Went there for a wedding.
Great service place lovely and clean
Staff really nice.
Would recommend

Plenty of period character and close to the city centre. Very comfortable bed! Could do with a little bit of tlc in the rooms, new carpet that sort of thing. Very good food ( incredible chips! ) Overall a good hotel.
T. R.
Lovely stay for 1 night. There seems to be an issue with housekeeping not reporting problems. Room 112. The shower door came off it's fittings when my wife tried to close it. Fortunately she was ok. Also the room door could not be opened easily. We had to get the porter to open it every time by forcing it. Apparently the management did know about this during the week. The hotel knew we had health issues yet we were expected to deal with a faulty door lock. Not good enough.
B. S.
Beautiful!!! I love old hotels with characters. Massive room... More like a small flat. 313 is the one to stay in... Feeling like in a boat. Highly recommended. Breakfast is the only thing I would like to see improved. Better buffet with more choice....
L. M.
What a gorgeous hotel! A mixture of old with the building and newer, modern facilities. Very spacious and comfortable room and bathroom with both a shower and gigantic tub.
Perfect location if you like to walk to see many interesting areas of the city. Several good restaurants and the local market within easy walking distance. Frequent nearby bus service easy to use.
The front desk staff were extremely helpful in guiding us to places and ordering our taxi upon departure.
T. 5.
Very big hotel and rooms are not too bad. I stop in best Western hotels, this is not their best. Parking is awful in fact I would avoid this hotel if you have a car. The hotel is an old place which is nice to look at, but!! There is not sound proofing which means you can hear all the noises from the corridors, stairs and especially the roads outside. Best try a different hotel which is better updated. I will be removing this from our company preference list for sure. On the plus side they serve good food and it's clean which is a good thing if you can't get a room anywhere else.
A. T.
We did a walk-in booking as we were visiting my father-in-law who sadly was terminally I'll in Derriford hospital. The hotel was able to accommodate us at a moments notice. Only drawback was that returning to the hotel close to midnight we found the doors locked. The night porter had to come to the door and no bell was evident. No problem really, but a bit inconvenient. The rooms were lovely and mostly clean, although I did find a beard hair in the wash basin, but being a bearded fella myself I know the blessed things appear from nowhere even after you think you cleaned them up, so no real reflection on the cleaning staff.
Pillows were not feather which I prefer but I guess if you don't mind synthetic that wouldn't be a problem
Hot water is a bit tepid in the early morning but not too bad.
Breakfast was a ten out of ten experience, wow it was delicious.
All in all a pretty decent hotel at a fairly reasonable price, and we would definitely return under better circumstances.
One thing I would note is that the car park is tiny so parking on street is £2 all night from 6pm to 8am by the rear of hotel.
P. G.
Stunning hotel in great condition both inside and out. Room was very comfortable, great views, and plenty of space. Hotel lounge was incredible, lots to read, not much on the menu but to be fair that's what the restaurant is for! What was in there was served quickly, fresh and well presented. Would love to stay again.
G. B.
The hotel is lovely and staff very helpful. However we had a room on 5th floor and it was very hot. The bathroom had no water pressure and needed new flooring. It is an old building so didn't expect air con. Had breakfast 1st morning. Tasty . But at 12.50 we ate out after that.
B. G.

Top quality hotel with great service. The function room is very impressive.
I found the sanitised for you note on the toilet very professional and re-assuring. First time I've seen this. Well done housekeeping.
Right opposite the Pavilions makes this a must stay hotel when going to a concert or show.
J. B.
Friendly staff and a lovely large room. An impressive building and interior. Good breakfast and free parking. Very central. Accept that no double glazing in such a lovely building but room a bit noisy. We also had trouble turning off the fan in the bathroom.
l. m.
Room too hot, no fan or ac, evening meal ok but breakfast disgusting
A. K.
Lots of atmosphere, nice change from some chain hotels. Room was great, had the view of the park. Staff all very nice and friendly. Central for the city but quiet. Will look forward to next visit.
N. S.
Great location, could easily walk to town or the waterfront.
Needs some renovations, windows are very old and we had to change rooms as the noise was so loud in one of the road facing rooms. Mattresses are very soft.
J. S.
An enjoyable stay. Comfortable room and clean. Quality of food good but not much choice which should be addressed. Breakfast very noisy with many Chinese children running around. Also on the Monday of our stay two children sat in the lounge doing homework, a woman was lying on one of the sofas with a baby on her and another child about four sitting naked on the floor. Not what you expect when you want a quiet afternoon cup of tea. It is still a lovely old hotel and the staff are extremely polite and pleasant.
G. C.
Gorgeous hotel. Bountiful Breakfast we both enjoyed. Super staff helped book taxis when our efforts failed. Looking forward to staying at Duke of Cornwall again. Fantastic four poster bed too.
N. B.
Lovely old building, full of character. A bit tired in certain areas but staff v friendly and helpful.
K.
Very nice hotel, typical Best Western with eclectic layout. Room was very nice and well furnished. Wish the lights on the front facade were turned off earlier. My room was practically lit up when I went to bed because of it, like sleeping in a full moon. Other than that was a nice experience.
H. G.
Great location, very posh. Lovely staff
j. s.
Room was not worth the money, parking was also a problem as they only have a tiny carpark for around 20 cars

As a experienced hotel worker i personaly think theres a few things they could change. The friendliness of the staff seem to be not all there apart from the bar man with the short hair and lip ring, he made the stay good from his service. When i arrived i had some really large bags and a electric scooter which no one came to help even with the amount of noise i was making. Checking in was like i walked into middle of a funreal, no one was at the main desk they never got up and came forward to greet the gusest before me or myself. The breakfast was the same like i walked into a funreal there wasnt a good morning Sir or madam but only morning your room number and then sit you at the table, to be brutally honest the honest the only reson why i would be back is for the £30 F/B allowances and the bar man.- room 317 19th-20th my stay.
S. B.
Tea at the top for my wife's 60th. I would give this a 6 out of 5. We had a 3 tier plate of savories, followed by 3 tier plate of desserts. Plus 2 glasses of champagne & tea. 360 degree view of Plymouth on a lovely afternoon. Really relaxing, Chris our butler was great, we couldn't fault it, a great experience. Thank you Duke of Cornwall.
S. H.
Attended the hotel for the Etsy Christmas event and have to say i enjoyed my visit to The Duke of Cornwall. The staff that helped me (i walk with a walker) were helpful and friendly. The disabled toilets were easy to access. I went to the main entrance of the hotel that has a couple of steps and a revolving door, so staff opened the door to the side for me to enter with my walker. There is disabled access from the car parking area (i didnt get dropped off there, so not able to comment on my personal experience with that) On the whole, i loved the feel of the hotel.
P. C.
I chose this hotel for my first ever trip to Plymouth. Its a lovely old building with great history. I enjoyed 3 nights, with great breakfast, and if I ever get back to Plymouth will stay again. I appreciate the work it takes to upkeep a listed building like this!
H. T.
Beautifully decorated room with an enormous bed. The hotel itself is a lovely building with a grand staircase.
The only down side was that there was a lot of noise both from outside and inside the hotel.
Breakfast was pretty good value, although our waitress didn't understand our order.
K. H.
I attended a Tea dance as part of the words and music festival. We had a lovely afternoon tea with a selection of sandwiches and pastries and an abundance of tea and coffee. The food was fabulous but the service could have been more professional. The staff where young and inexperienced and lacked fitness. Overall we had a fantastic afternoon.
R. O.
Interior decorators have taken a lot of care with the bedrooms and public areas of this hotel. Good breakfast, part waiter service, part buffet. Enjoyed an exceptionally good night's sleep on apparently not-so-good mattress.
R. P.
Was okay need to improve on the cooking side. Comfy bed nice room . Staff were nice. Needs to improve on the quality of the food. And the access for people with disabilities on the front of the building. Buzzer is their but that is not the point
H. I.
This was a surprise - a very historical hotel just outside the centre. The decoration makes you feel to be in a palace. The restaurant is beautiful and offers a range of dishes - and friendly service. The rooms are decorated in style however this means that the bathroom (of the room I stayed in) had a bit of old-fashioned looks and feel compared to nowadays standards. Breakfast options are great and offer a powerful start of the day. Defenitely will look at this hotel for a next stay in Plymouth.
D. m.
Lovely hotel great staff and very friendly and knowledgeable of local area and history . Lovely original vintage decor will be returning in future. Thank u for a great time
P. S.
The staff were friendly and extremely helpful the atmosphere and history of this hotel was very interesting. Very clean and comfortable. If you are looking for a hotel with lots of Character and charm then this is the place to be. We enjoyed our stay here and are happy to recomnend we would not hesitate to re visit
R. M.
Stayed here two years ago and it was great. Chosen for this visit, on the strength of our impressions last time.
Our room was booked online (my mistake) and on arrival we found it to be situated above the kitchens - the invading aroma of cabbage greeted us at bedtime.
The following day our room was not serviced, staff were informed and promised to rectify this - we arrived back only to find a bag of clean linen had been thrown through the door and the room had not been touched. A complaint to the duty manager elicited a profuse apology and the deduction of monies off our bill. This was duly done.
Despite all of this we did enjoy our visit, as it encompassed a visit to members of the family.

A couple staying for two nights on business.
We found the hotel to be in a prime location by the Hoe. The staff were very nice, the hotel was charming and beautifully decorated with a large bedroom, television, and two comfy seats. Plenty of room to work in with tables provided. The breakfast was a good size and quality. The staff were very nice. We had a free car park and went straight to the room. You might expect with all hotels but a week ago with another hotel we queued for 80 minutes to get our key, then we had to go to an NCP carpark across the town to park.
A. H.
Has a real up-market feel. Beautiful rooms. Very clean. Friendly service. Lovely breakfast. Hot water. Large rooms. Large lounge with cosy chairs and ooen fire. Nice bar too.
Electronic lock on door kept failing and the rooms got a little cold at night as heating was switched off. We were here in February.
Yes I'd definitely book here again if back in Plymouth.
J. R.
Brilliant dog friendly staff all very helpful went above and beyond to make sure i had everything i needed even cook my dog sum suasages out of kindness
R. T.
Thank you all so much for providing us with the most amazing wedding day. Everything from start to finish was so well organised & orchaestrated. The staff were so professional, thoughtful & attentive throughout the whole day & evening. Nothing was any trouble & you made us feel very special. We would certainly not hesitate to recommend your hotel as a wedding venue. Many thanks Mr & Mrs Doonan
K. M.
I have attended a wedding at this hotel. Hotel is nice enough but definitely dated and could do with a fresher look. I will not comment on the food because it was a wedding package. There are plenty of rooms around the hotel and a few bars. Staff seem inexperienced and very young, plus they didn't seem all that attentive. Bars were expensive, a pint of coke was nearly as much as a pint of beer. Car park is small and definitely a nightmare, also it's now managed by a third party so you need to register your plate with Reception every day! If you forget you will land a ticket.
T. B.
Was a great stay enjoyed the history of the building. The rooms were very clean and the decor matched the great atmosphere of the building.
Could complain about the food and the staff. Was in a great location for the harbour if you fancy drinks and a walk.
Would defo stay again!!!
S.
Good value with there welcome back offer. Biggest complaint was for a 3 rosette restaurant the menus was decidedly dumbed down, though well cooked. All the staff were wonderful.
A. B.
Very nice room (104) with shower and bath and a big flat screen TV. Showerhead is fixed which is a bit annoying and if you were over 6 ft you would not fit under it. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good and served in the restaurant. There is a small car park at the rear of the hotel which is free but the spaces are not laid out very well, the space in the middle of the car park should be removed so that the other spaces are easier to park in.
T. W.
First time in, went to a meeting, quite impressive overall
S. S.
Hotel is nice and the rooms are clean. Decent shower. Off the road parking was available. Nice and friendly staff. Only problem, bar closed at 12. There were some noisy staff during the night under our window at 4am.
A. M.
Charming, enchanting, captivating and mesmerizing old traditional hotel, not far away from the harbour in Plymouth.
You feel as if you were back in the 19th century!
The beds were a little bit soft, but not uncomfortable. Anyway, it's a personal thing: some like softer beds, others like harder/tighter beds.
But you should choose a big bed with one large mattress, as the single beds are really quite small.
There is a very tiny, beautiful, old fashioned elevator with a capacity of 4 persons (without luggage!).
If you are addicted to old buildings and appreciate old, traditional interior design and decoration, then "The Duke of Cornwall" is definitely the right choice.

Stayed for one night to see a show at the Plymouth Pavilions. Found the hotel to be clean and tidy and had a good nights sleep. The staff were great and the receptionist, Kelly, was very polite and helpful. The only downside was the restaurant prices but we found somewhere close by which did excellent food. Had a brilliant full English breakfast before leaving and would not hesitate to book again when visiting Plymouth.
P. M. S.
I had a wonderful time at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel in Plymouth. The accommodation was excellent, as was the food. I'd love to visit again
I'd be very happy to stay at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel again in the not too distant future. Best wishes.

A pleasant surprise no noisy air conditioning, great to be able to open windows.Fabulous hot powerful shower.friendly staff .our room was clean and very comfortable and large.Having stayed in many hotels in Plymouth this was our first stay at this hotel and won't be our last.
M. N.
We spent a great four days here and cannot fault it. The breakfasts were really tasty as were the evening meals. They also serve snacks in the lounge bar. It is an old Victorian building with lots of character. The floors squeek a bit but it is expected. The bedroom was ok with a nice sitting area. Bathroom had a bath and a walk in shower unit. Definitely going back in the summer. ALL THE STAFF were really helpful and friendly.
S. R.
Lovely old hotel. Quiet and well run. Single Room was quite small but clean, warm and had everything i needed for a comfortable stay. Very close to city centre, theatre and restaurants. Was also able to check in early which was an added bonus. If you like olde worlde this is the place for you 🙂
S. D.
Very interesting hotel with individually styled rooms. Well positioned for Ferry Port. Lovely staff especially the lady who greeted us for breakfast. Car park is a bonus if you can get on it as it is small.
J. G.
I like to stay in hotels with character and history. I travel a lot for work and although I have no complaints about the modern hotel chains used by my company I like to choose something totally different when staying and paying myself.
The Duke of Cornwall was the first luxury hotel built in Plymouth and we were met with a friendly welcome. The hotel’s grand decor felt homely and I just had to use the beautiful staircase even though I had a partial knee replacement four weeks ago. The breakfast was freshly cooked and served on hot plates which is essential for me. When rating any establishment I will always deduct a star in a review if hot food is served on cold plates and will not book again as to me that is a basic rule of catering.
We stayed because we took our niece down to Plymouth University and will stay again when we next visit.
Hopefully next time we will be there on a Saturday or Wednesday so we can try the afternoon tea in the hotel’s Tower Room.

We stayed at this grand hotel for one night, we were up in Plymouth to see a show at the Pavilions. This hotel is PERFECT for location, food and service if you're visiting Plymouth for the pavilions, in fact I'd quite happily come back whatever the reason for the visit was. The staff from the receptionists to the waiters, the barman and the night porter, they were all so friendly and welcoming and made me feel very looked after, it was like stepping back in time when service was the USP of any hotel. The hotel itself is a treat to walk around and you can feel and read about the history oozing out of every wall. The food was excellent in the restaurant, especially the "pre-show" menu! I look forward to the next time we visit Plymouth!

We had our wedding here on Saturday and the whole experience was simply amazing. The staff treated us like royalty and our guests had the best time and could not fault a thing. Delicious food, friendly staff and an amazing venue. Thank you so very much.
C. L.
Caters for private and corporate functions as well as casual meals and drinks. There are several function rooms as well a the public bar area. Good food and drink selection. Staff are polite and helpful. Located a few minutes walk from the city centre and the seafront

Possibly one of the best hotels in Plymouth gathering also for large groups.
Most of the rooms have been adequately refurbished with glamour and the
Hotel is in a very central location. Food and service are really excellent, with a remark for breakfast which may be should be served on a buffet for groups.

Very comfortable. Spacious room and ensuite. We were on the 5th floor but there was a lift available. All staff very pleasant and helpful. We attended a family members 80th birthday dinner which was very pleasant only criticism was the bread arrived after everyone had finished their starter, and extra gravy after people had finished their main course. Food was tasty and we'll presented and hot when it reached the table. Breakfast both mornings was hot tasty and nicely presented. The only criticism about the room was we had a double room for 2 people but each night there was only 1 hot chocolate on the drink tray and 1 packet of biscuits and only 4 milks. I'm sure they would have given us extra at reception but we were on the top floor and when we realised it would have meant getting dressed again. We would stay there again if we were in Plymouth.

I have only stayed here for one night. Very welcoming, welcome directions to room satisfactory room good and clean with extra paper draped around toilet indicating deeper clean. Lifts very small not accessible for a wheel chair or blind user. Bar food excellent but pricey. Staff very helpful, no double glazing on windows so traffic noisey from roads. Public areas nicely comfortable seating well appointed. Not disability accessible from street as several flights of stairs to entrance door. No indication of access from another route. Old fashioned feel well preserved. Dining area has grand old fashioned fixtures but lacks coutour flourish. At seventy eight pounds for a single room per night its not for the working classes.

Coming up from St Ives in Cornwall by train, we actually walked to the hotel in the glorious sunshine rather than take a taxi. Checking in was easy and the receptionist was friendly and very helpful. Our room (308) was lovely, four poster bed with tv opposite, ensuite with bath, shower & toilet, all very clean, also a separate room with tv, coffee table and comfy chairs etc. Our room was very clean & tidy and tastefully decorated... we really liked it a lot. I guess some people would call the hotel 'old' but i would call it 'historically classic' and being a builder and mason myself I loved the look of the frontage with the original stone & brickwork, the revolving front door, the interior woodwork and stairs, the dome ceiling and chandelier in the main dining room. The lounge and bar was very nice and relaxing with quality leather sofa's and chairs, toilets where very clean and tidy in this area too. The staff that we met were all very nice and nothing was too much trouble to help make our short stay a pleasent one.

High quality hotel, exceptional staff, brilliant room and an excellent price.
The Duke of Cornwall surprised me the moment I arrived.
I stayed here during an open day at the local university, initially I chose this hotel for it's price, which was comparable to a budget hotel.
Opon seeing the hotel, I had to double check to make sure I was at the correct place! I then had to check to see if I had unknowingly gotten a special 50% off deal.
My very first star is for the value.
In Plymouth, this hotel incomparable.
Everything from the exterior to the restaurant is richly decorated. Walking inside feels more like entering a mansion. The phrase "Spared no expense" could be attached to every aspect. Everything is kept pristine and clean, not a spec of dust or mess to be seen.
Incredibly grand and one of the cleanest hotels I've stayed at. For this they earn another star.
The staff are by far some of the best I've had the pleasure of meeting. They were very helpful, leaving no question unanswered and going above and beyond where ever they could.
They saved me hours of time and money with directions, recommendations and their local knowledge. I would have been lost without the staff members.
Quite simple the staff were invaluable and for that they get a further two stars.
My room for the night was was initially a corner room, which brings me to the one downside of the stay.
Unfortunately the lock on my door had broken. It's not clear how this happened or if it could have been avoided. However the staff once again shone and I was seen to straight away. I accepted a new room which I was moved into in less then ten minutes after. I had help with my bags and ended up with a larger bed.
The rooms are warm and homley. With the same standard of decoration and cleanliness as the rest of the hotel. The showers are powerful and the bathroom is stocked with soap, hair products, etc.
The room met the same standards as the rest of the hotel. The only problem with it, was that I had only booked one night.
For this and the quick response of staff, another star.
As I have a hospitality background I normally judge harshly, but I highly recommend this hotel.
My only regret is that I was only there for a passing visit.
I didn't get the try the food and only used the room once.
The staff here have done a brilliant job and it shows in the excellent quality.
5/5

This is a pretty decent hotel, i dont know wheter the ‘Luxury’ moniker quite applies, it is a little in the past and this might have been the case 20 years or so ago. The communal spaces and the rooms were definitely nice and well kept and no problem with my stay at all, but room styling was something akin to a very nice traditional english bed & breakfast. Also, the wifi is extremely slow if you need it for work purposes.
J. A.
Pretty cool original hotel. Looking a bit tired in places but has a charm about it. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was average but there was enough.
R. M.
Needs a bit of TLC but a nice place to stay for few days
N. B.
WONDERFUL! Staff was amazing! Great suite poolside with a jetted tub. We have two little girls and they loved it. Staff provided us with a crib at no charge and also mailed back something expensive I had forgotten in our room. This will be our minnesota go to!
J. C.
Beautiful hotel! Amazing views from our room in the tower 🤩
G. P.
Meeting rooms inside the building with no natural light. Drinks of the morning coffee missed the hot water for treatment and spoons. We had to ask when we were told exactly when the cider break was. The free car park at the back is very small for such a big place and the other car park is expensive especially when we drive 90minutes to the venue as it all adds up. Saying that there is a park next door where we had a picnic. Good was also available from a menu to pre order and the event ran smoothly
H. B.
Comfortable hotel, excellent staff and good breakfast. Evening meal menu very limited. Hotel has obviously made some cutbacks due to covid
M. S.
Yesterday my husband and I visited the Tower Suite in the Duke of Cornwall for afternoon tea and it was delightful the whole experience. We were met by our Butler for the afternoon Christian who treated us like royalty and nothing was too much trouble. From the champagne, beautifully prepared sandwiches continuing through biscuits, cakes and cream tea, we loved the whole thing and of course the views from the tower were beautiful. Advertise this event more.
G. P.
Very pleasant and obliging receptionist i needed documents pri ting and it was no trouble at all... best bed ive slept on in years breakfast was well prepared and extra tea and toast was fetched with a smile
A. R.
A grand old hotel with some rooms that have seen better days - old windows with gaps so big that you could see the window blind flapping. Perfect for keeping the milk cold during this chilly spell. Polite and helpful staff and a great breakfast in the morning. A fantastic location, across the road from the Pavilions and at an arms reach from the Hoe. Less than twenty minutes from the railway station on foot.
J. M.
We stayed last night as part of a theatre break. The hotel is warm and welcoming, with really friendly and helpful staff. Our room was large and extremely comfortable. Many thanks :-)
L. W.
Good location with good staff, and depending what you look for in your stay it's good value for money.
It's a beautiful old building with the decor being much the same, but many rooms are tired and dated with creeky floorboards and beds! So in much need of some tlc.
G. M.
An ok visit, room was ok not what we would call superior which is what we paid for. Breakfast wasn't good but we did really enjoy our dining experience the previous evening
S. N.
I really like best western hotels, you never know what you are going to get and they are always quirky. The Duke of Cornwall is a lovely old building, full of charm and character. However, for a hot night I requested a fan, I was sent a Heater that had a 'cool' mode. It was like a mouse with asthma blowing through a straw. The room was large, the window couldn't be opened more than 4 inches (5th floor so suicide/accident prevention) - at £100 a night it's just not good enough - Aldi sell pedestal fans for less than £20 - they could, and should, provide a (decent) fan. While things like tired decor/fixings I usually overlook as part of the appeal of these types of hotel when hot and bothered, unable to sleep, you start getting frustrated at the dripping shower, the tap that turns (not just the handle) the lift that takes ages to arrive etc. Etc. Etc.
J. N.
Lovely old hotel but recently renovated. Great position in the centre of the city. Car park was abit small but was very useful in the city location. Nice and helpful staff too. A great hotel for Plymouth.
P. D.
This hotel and staff are amazing,1st class service, we have never been so much looked after,I would definitely recommend a stay at this hotel.
R. R.
Dated (nicely older/lovely historic building) but comfortable. Really nice staff and very helpful.
Car park is quite small but local parking is available.
Enjoyed my stay.
Δ. Ζ.
Very very good experience, really nice personel, you can smell the history of the building, near city centre, traditional english breakfast. Highly recommended for a stay in Plymouth for the tourist who values local history and tradition over modern commodities...
S. G.
I have attended many functions at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel. Friendly, polite staff, fantastic food, stunning rooms and centrally located close to City Centre with only a short walk to Plymouth's beautiful waterfront. Highly recommended.
P. H.
Lovely friendly staff. The public rooms are lovely but the hotel rooms are a bit dated. Very nice breakfast
N. M.
Visited as part of a pre-show deal and was impressed. Get there early for parking but thereafter we found a large and comfortable bar and then pleasant restaurant with large windows and giant chandelier. Food was very good (on set-menu) and all the staff were very courteous and helpful.
M. G.
A wonderful experience of how a hotel should be run. Very professional in all respects. A lovely room, 210, attentive staff and great food. If we are in Plymouth again, we will certainly stay here.
M. L.
Good for an over night stay, breakfast was excellent with lovely staff. The room was very clean but could do with updating. Main areas are very grand.
J. T.
Wedding day celebrations, service was unbelievable, nothing to much for staff, food 1st class, bedrooms clean, tidy, comfortable. Highly recommend for any function, romantic meal or just a coffee in the lounge or tower
K. B.
Another lovely overnight stay at the Duke of Cornwall in Plymouth - the place is so full of character but the visitor experience is excellent too with very comfortable rooms, great wifi and what must surely be the very best breakfast in the city. Highly recommended.
B. C.
We stayed overnight for a charity ball, the ball was well organised with tentative staff, the food was good and the bar staff were excellent. The Hotel is quaint but we were disappointed with our room, the carpet hadn't been hoovered properly, there was a screw missing from the hard shower screen, when you tried to pull it across it tipped forward, not ideal. Water pressure was at best poor. It's a shame because the hotel is steeped in history but it just lacks sparkle. The bar staff were excellent. Reception staff adequate. Restaurant staff good. Could do better with some good points.
L. M.
Went for tea at the top...wow...totally amazing. Food was exquisite and plenty of it. They cater for your dietary requirements and preferences. Views are fantastic too. Highly recommend.
D. O.
We had high tea in the Tower.
Wonderful waiter & great selection of food. Would certainly recommend. Spectacular views
I. S.
Stayed in the Sir Ernest Shackleton room, very pleasant with a triple aspect. For the age of the hotel the room was up to date, including two large screen TVs and fast internet.
The hotel is full of character and confidently placed for Plymouth Pavilions, the Hoe and shopping.
P. S.
Having got married at “The Duke” a year ago, and having a beautiful & memorable day, we decided it was the perfect place to celebrate our Anniversary.
Pete & his TERRIFIC TEAM didn’t disappoint & we enjoyed a beautiful overnight stay with the most delicious dinner & fabulous accommodation.
We WILL DEFINITELY be back!!
THANKS “Team Duke”!!
A. H.
Nice sized room. Clean and well maintained. Good meal in restaurant with attentive staff. Slow checkout otherwise would have given 5 stars
S. H.
Excellent hotel, excellent room & very comfy & spacious.
Extremely helpful staff.
Wonderful & plentiful breakfast.
Bar menu Steak also fantastic.!
M. R.
I chose this hotel for easy access for disabled persons and has a car park, our first morning breakfast was nice although the coffee was so weak I couldn’t drink it my wife and brother in law on the other hand did?
On our second day we went down to have breakfast once again the staff were very helpful and very pleasant as to were the ladies on the reception, the one thing that made my blood boil was on this morning (we stayed 2 nights) was after breakfast and back to our room to finish packing ready to leave (bearing in mind we have until 11:00 to vacate our rooms) I’m in the bathroom and I hear my wife talking to someone (me thinking she is on her mobile) OH! No it was house keeping and was surprised that we where still in the room at 09:10 my wife said about 10 min, and due to this I’ve taken it from four to three.
M. F.
A lovely old fashioned seaside grand hotel. Beautiful lobby , staircase and loundge/ resturant areas, very spacious corridors.
The room could do with a lick of paint and an update but was charming, clean and everything worked.
Staff were very attentative and helpful and went out of their way to make sure i had everyhing i needed.
J. E.
This beautiful hotel is well situated for all Plymouth highlights. The history of The Duke of Cornwall is very interesting; Ernest Shackleton stayed there the night before he sailed for the Arctic and John Betjeman loved it's architectural beauty and lbbied against it's closure.
The interior is opulent and delightful and although built in 1865 everything works beautifully as the quality is sublime.
The bed and room were very comfortable and the staff were all very friendly, smart and helpful and the price was great value.
Forget your concrete box and go for the luxury and comfort of a bygone age.
B. G. P.
Thank you for yet another great stay. Albeit one night this time, we found the hotel and the staff as charming and friendly as ever. Highly recommend especially for dog owners. May be 3* hotel, but 5* service.
H. &. S. J.
Just had a fantastic 3 day stay at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, Room was spacious and very comfortable , Staff was brilliant, very obliging and helpful, Breakfast and evening meal were second to none, Look forward to going there again early next year, Would Highly recommend this hotel.
L. H.
Really good service, comfortable rooms, great shower, good breakfast. Traditional British hotel. Made a great change from identikit chain hotels. Worth taking a chance on!
A. H.
What a beautiful hotel and an amazing piece of Plymouth history. Outside the hotel is beautiful and inside the interior design is stunning. The rooms are clean and fresh and the staff are friendly and helpful.
J. S.
We had our wedding here. Amazing staff and rooms. Food was amazing. We had a magical day. Thank you
S. P.
My room was a sound budget option but no complaints other than a strong smell of damp. A good breakfast selection is available too.
S. N.
Odd place rooms are of different sizes doors have gaps underneath. But other than that staff are pleasant foods good.
A. H.
The ballroom was well decorated and provided plenty of space, although the size of the bar was a little small in relative terms. Staff were fantastic all evening.
P. W.
Hotel with alot of history. Captain Scott stayed here before his fateful expedition. A room dedicated to him. A cosy feeling unlike modern brash hotels. Situated in the heart of the city.
G. S.
This hotel is very nice lots of history breakfast was brilliant with lots of variety friendly staff .rooms were big and the shower was powerful brilliant would stay again x
S. B.
A well positioned hotel , old world feel but with modern service, very nice breakfast choice and service
M. C.
Great hotel, I booked a twin room by accident so my girlfriend wasn't very happy but we spoke to them and they were happy to change it to room 415 which has a double bed, is beautiful with many windows, a great view a great bathroom.
D. P.
We are staying in the Shackleton room for two nights. Having stayed in this room before we knew it would be fantastic. I love the history about this suite and am interested in the Shackleton memorabilia here.
E. “.
Clean room and hotel. Fast service during breakfast.
R. a. G. T.
Hotel with character, each room is different, some better than others but all comfortable. Place will need updating at some time, not all rooms have double glazing.
B. B.
Great staff service with a clean and spacious room. All at a reasonable price that included parking. Will definitely stay here again.
M. T.
Friendly staff.... outdated rooms!.it was not the decoration to my liking it was more to do with the length of time since it had last been decorated... it was very tired.. more like an old B& B in the room...
S. T.
Comfortable room, but a bit noisy at times, creaky floorboards, an excellent full English breakfast available though. 👍
S. D.
Average hotel room. Had to call back for them to send us receipts via email because of checking out early. But the staff at front desk was very friendly and helpful.
R. S.
Lovely stay, staff are excellent and friendly. Room comfy and clean. Breakfast was great. Will certainly stay here again when next in Plymouth.
D. L.
A beautiful classic hotel in the heart of the city. Friendly staff great food and we'll maintained rooms.
D. “. W.
The Duke of Cornwall hotel is fabulous, the rooms are spacious and very clean, the bathrooms are lovely and the beds are very comfortable. My wife and i have stayed in the hotel twice and it is where we will always stay on our trips to Plymouth. The staff are fantastic, they are so helpful and polite, nothing is too much for them. The price is good too, sign up for best western newsletter an keep an eye out for special offers. This hotel is highly recommended.
D.
The hotel duke of cornwall is a very old house with many interesting details. The menus of the kitchen are international and very good. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Very good. 🔝👍
G. W.
I love the Duke! It has an old world quirkiness that is lovely. The staff efficient+ welcoming, our room creaky but gorgeous.
M. G.
Lovely old building and nice rooms. The rooms would benefit from some decorative tidying up but the friendly service easily compensates.
E. A.
We were the only 2 in the lounge and waited over 30 minutes for our coffee, we had to ask for it in the end. Just a little thing not a criticism a biscuit with the coffee would have been nice!
S. B.
Had one night here... Very pleasant staff, nice breakfast. Room desperately hot despite no heating being on.
K. D.
If you want to stay in a Victorian hotel 5 minutes from Plymouth Hoe or city centre, this is it. Old fashioned service, large rooms and plenty of original Victorian style
R. E.
Great hotel close to city centre, theatres and the Hoe sea front. High standards throughout. We keep going back to the Duke for the reliability of its high standards.
G. B.
Fantastic hotel, very clean room, breakfast was delicious lots of choices. Central location close to City Centre.
s. m.
Spacious, convenient with parking. Gorgeous building. Some staff very helpful, some very unhelpful. Windows need some work as rattled all night long!
J. R.
Beautiful room, only 1 problem reported, staff friendly and helpful. Cheaper than a Travelodge and breakfast included, cooked and continental. Free WiFi. Stayed as a Wedding guest.
K. J.
Staff were very friendly and the hotel was well looked after. Parking nearby at a cost, there was parking at the hotel but this was very limited.
D. B.
Lovely posh bar open to non residents. Hotel prices but so what. Sometimes it's nice to have some decent service. Tip top thanks
F. W.

Typical hotel bar with the usual slightly expensive prices. Decent decor and in a great location, so close to the Plymouth Pavilions. Friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere. Food available if required.
I. H.
First impressions excellent friendly reception very welcoming. Comfortable room, room temperature endured a good night's sleep.

L. M.
Have enjoyed staying here for the night. Good sized, nice and clean room and great breakfast. Would recommend a stay here
T. H.
A lovely hotel but Not enough parking spaces, parking on street cheaper after 6pm and disappointingly no discount offered by hotel unlike others in area.
J. C.
All very nice and cosy and fancy! Only downside was my room 'key' kept having to be reset but other than that, it was great!
M. B.

T. W.
Nice room , but has squeaky floors and I could running water from people taking a shower.
J. W.
Really nice staff, good bar and service, good selection of drinks, room quite small and awkward, the bathroom door gets in the way when it's open, clean and tidy but in need of a little maintenance for example, blown bulbs throughout hotel, rotten window frame and tea stained carpet by the bin (maybe a little bin on the desk would stop people making the mess in the first place) but overall a good stay in a quiet room with comfortable bed.
R. F.
Fantastic breakfast and service. Rooms outdated with horrendous migraine inducing wallpaper.
R. S.
