Reviews of Royal St. David's Golf Club
E. J.
Really enjoyed playing at Royal St David's. 2 days of fabulous weather and incredible scenery and great golf. Definitely going make this an annual trip!
R. K.
A group of us enjoyed an autumnal round this week. Some magical holes and views.... Always chasing round to avoid the incoming weather. Greens were slow after maintenance, but this is to be expected at this time of the year.
J. G.
Great test of golf and in super condition. The Dormy rooms were comfortable and we'll stocked with everything required. Friendly helpful staff. Looking forward to playing again.
A. S.
Played in the Senior Open in Sept 2022 and loved everything about it. Not sure how many first tee boxes sit right under a medieval castle but this is a great setting and the course is everything I hoped for. Great variety of holes with deep bunkers and deep rough everywhere - feels like an Open venue from that point of view. Totally recommended
J. P.
Great setup, greens in good condition and quick for the conditions. We will be back!
J. M.
Played late September and got a relatively unfriendly welcome in the pro shop from an Irish guy who seemed like he didn't want to be there. Golf was fine and the course good, but unfortunately the weather was awful during the back 9 and we ended up walking in after 13 holes (wind/rain etc). Got to the bar and was met with a young chap who needed some customer service training - they didn't have any draft drinks but he didn't seem bothered. It was basically 'what you see is what you get'. I'm sure this golf course is great in good weather, but the service side needs some serious work - very overpriced green fees compared to other local course.
A. G.
Fantastic golf course, a must play, bring lots of balls!
D. H.
My husband and I absolutely loved it, the weather was great which always helps so the mountains looked stunning. Course was challenging but fair and immaculate!
T. R.
Played here 2 weeks ago - one of the most beautiful golf courses I’ve ever played. Course was in great condition!
B. O.
Absolute class links - a real pleasure to play and hope to return in the near future.
M. B.
What a fantastic golf course - beautifully set up - greens true - an excellent place to enjoy the most challenging test of golf with utterly spectacular views of the Castle and Snowdon and Snowdonia
T. C.
Lovely course with a front nine that leads you into a false sense of security. The back nine brings you back down to earth with a bump with some tough holes and tight fairways. Warm and friendly staff and good food. Is it worth the money we paid for a round? Sadly not.But none the less a lovely day out in a lovely part of the country.
T. D.
Although the clubhouse is now getting a little tired the whole experience of golf at Royal St David's is superb. Playing once a year you can still be stumped by the back 9 and I'm still to score on the 15th! But the practice facilities are wonderful, the breakfast was superb and the challenge is still as hard as ever. Worth a visit on your golfing tour.
C. E. L.
I visit Royal St. Davids Golf Club every year for a small links golf competetion. It never fails to impress. Always a warm welcome at the clubhouse and the course, even with significant rainfall, is always in good condition. The essentials- ample parking, well stocked pro-shop, large changing rooms, drinks and food available at the spike bar. If you haven't played this course- do it.
H. C.
A beautiful course with good pace of play. The front 9 is a lot easier than the back 9. Greens in great condition. It could do with better signage and a course guide book would help a lot for people who haven't played before due to some very challenging holes on the back 9.
H. T.
Wonderful course in an idyllic setting. One of Wales great courses
B. R.
Great course and a true test of golf !
D. H.
Loved the course, plenty of challenge and also holes you can score on. Great to sit outside and have a pint after the round.
M. W.
Proper links course! Doesn't get much better than this. Greens were in superb condition. Highly recommend
C. A.
Fairways are excellent and greens are pure and true with excellent green keeping. My only disappointment was that there were no sea views , only if you stand on the position stairs on tee box 16 can you see the sea.
I. K.
Interesting course not in best condition. Unfortunately no hot food due to Chef having C19.
Wind made back 9 very tough.
Had a good time although green fee's are high for standard of course
S. F.
Very nice course, but not worth the green fee price. Played at conway and others and they have much higher standards/facilities. The whole place looks run down and staff were extremely disinterested in anyone that was not local. Shame as the course is really interesting and fun to play
g. c.
Great course, very worthy of its rating. Will definitely go again. Fingers crossed the weather will be as glorious next time.
k. b.
Simply stunning location and wonderful course. Clubhouse/staff/members all warm and welcoming.
R. P.
Course was fantastic plus staff and other players very friendly. I can't speak highly enough about my visit.
D. W.
Fantastic course in very good condition, well worth the£54 after 3pm.
A. D.
Stunning location with views to die for. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Course is so unique, as feels reasonable and attackable right up until the last 5 holes which could destroy the best golfers card. They simply take links golf to the toughest level at the end to remind you how hard golf can be. A must play course with views and back drops you’ll never forget. Oh and the greens are fast and true, with rough set to test you to the max when played in June.
N. H.
Really good golf course. I will definitely will be returning.
J. P.
Beautiful course, tricky back 9 after a good scoring front 9.
P. S.
Lovely golf course with stunning views
S. T.
Friendly welcome in the Pro Shop. Lovely course, punishing rough, fast greens and fast fairways.
Really struggled and had my worst score in years but it was a course I've never played before and wasn't ready for the speed.
Highly recommended course
s.
Good welcome. A golf course of two halves, easier front nine, accuracy required for back nine. I now have nightmares about bunkers! Food choice ok, chips were superb (freshcut).
J. N.
Fantastic course, the best I've played in North Wales. Generous fairways and big greens help the average golfer. Just keep out of the bunkers 😉 …
J. M.
Great links course, well maintained. last 5 holes extreme!
M. H.
Well looked after by the staff but course not in the best condition.
C. B.
Good early autumn condition. Only downside 2 holes on the back nine were being worked on resulting in a temporary green and a temporary tee. Otherwise 5 stars.
P. T.
Having a lodge next door, Royal St David's has always been a course I've enjoyed playing and walk the course regularly.
It's certainly a testing course when the wind gets up so realistically, if you're playing to anything over a 18-20 Handicap, you may struggle. A few fun blind tee shots and if you don't like an audience while you're teeing off, maybe not for you... There are a few holes that have a public path alongside where people like to stand and watch (so don't hook it!)
N. B.
Great golf course and facilities, first time here and really hope I get back
P. M.
This is one of the very best golf courses to play. Every hole is a challenge but fair. Unfortunately we could only complete 9 holes today due to 70 mph wind!! Food good and chef very efficient and friendly. Good selection of beers too!
F. F.
Excellent golf course in a beautiful part of Wales.
J. T.
Very enjoyable . Very friendly. Probably the best Saturday I've spent playing golf.
T. M.
Amazing course, 100% worth a visit if your in Wales. True links golf and the views are stunning.
J. K.
Fabulous and challenging course. Booked to go back in the summer. The Dormy rooms are superb accommodation.
P. N.
Challenging course. The rough is unforgiving and tight fairways, a real links challenge!
S. Y.
Not a member or have played golf here, saw this golf club on my way to the Beach and it is clearly written not for public access. The club itself is stunning with perfectly trimmed grass and ethereal Harlech beach sand dunes, the castle for its views. Not far from parking and the restrooms, if you're a golfer, you must play here.
D. H.
Superb golf course especially the Last five holes. Beautiful views of North Wales and Harlech Castle, spoilt by some ugly 1960s buildings. Food average and Welsh rarebit a disappointment. All in truly magical place. First played there 43 years ago.
D. C.
Played here today Sunday 9th June 2019. What a golf course. This is a hard golf course, lots of ruff and deep bunkers, I play of 18, but would say I'm more a 20HC golfer, been playing for 30 years.
The greens are fast and true. The fairways "when you hit them" are tightly cut,its not a course where you can just use a driver all the time, you have to think about each shot. I finished on 98, but had a great round of golf, few lost balls cost me some shots, plus a few duff shots and 3 putts. I would love to play it again, I think now I know the course I would shot a bit lower,, but was happy with my score today. Thank you to the Pro who was very helpful today. Thanks Derek
p. k.
Well ... just wow!
An amazing course and layout. Some of the best greens I've ever played on and what a setting, playing literally under the gaze of Harlech Castle.
If you are staying in the area the play here and Aberdovey, just forget the rest. They are 2 of the world's top rustic links.
A. W.
Great course but looks very untidy
S. S.
Course in great condition, greens were immaculate
M. W.
Massively challenging golf course with great history. Very tough closing 6 holes. Problem with water table and waterlogged Bunkers an issue during poor weather. Clubhouse staff and professional very friendly and helpful.
J. H.
Expensive, not terribly well maintained but challenging & fun
G. S.
1st visit to this amazing club on a delightfully warm day with no breeze!
Top class club professional, really friendly members and bar staff.
Shot a great round scoring 39 stapleford points!
Definitely will return. Shame it's so far from Midhurst!
G. M.
Very good course but would not recommend for high handicappers.
Good food and we were well looked after
M. G.
Beautiful course, rough can be brutal but thoroughly enjoyed my day. Clubhouse staff very friendly and helpful.
L. T.
Nice course that requires accuracy. If you aren't on the fairway, there's a good chance your ball will be lost in the knee high rough.
S. F.
Lovely beach. spacious & beautiful scenic photos with the sea hills in the background
D. R.
Fantastic Links Golf Course rated number 2 in Wales but number 1 in my opinion great all round experience Course, Management, Pro Shop, Catering, Staff and Members take time to visit as a golfer or just for a coffee or meal.
p. u.
A wonderful course, great staff in clubhouse and pro shop and some truly stunning views as you go round the course. Well worth a trip
P. D.
What a beautiful course, difficult but the scenery is amazing and some of the holes are breathtaking.
Ticked off my bucket list after 20 years of viewing it on visits to Harlech.
F. C.

J. a.
Fantastic conditions, greens & fairways superb, considering its 3 days before xmas we couldn't have wished for more
J. R.
Fantastic links golf course. Bit parched at the moment but that adds to the experience. Get your course management skills honed and mind those pot bunkers!
S. S.

Gute Preise, gute Location aber das Personal könnte durchaus auch zeigen, dass es Spass an Kunden hat. Dienst nach Vorschrift geht im Gastgewerbe einfach nicht.
(Translated)
Good prices, good location but the staff could definitely show that they enjoy customers. Work to rule is simply not possible in the hospitality industry.
H. R. K.
(Translated) Incredibly great links golf. Harlech Castle is in the landscape on almost every hole and is incredibly beautiful to look at. Absolutely superb conditions and good greens. Pleasant service both in the pro shop and bar / restaurant. Good food after the round. One of the favorites in Wales!
(Original)
Utrolig flott links golf. Slottet Harlech er i landskapet på nesten alle hull og er utrolig flott å se på. Helt suverene forhold og bra greener. Hyggelig betjening både i pro shop og bar / restaurant. God mat etter runden. En av favorittene i Wales!

(Translated) 3 years ago, when I went to Liverpool for The Beatles' pilgrimage to the Holy Land as an annual event, I used to get along with a local golf-loving couple.
When I stood at the TEEground three years ago, it was all heath and mound, and there was a wavy fairway like St. Andrews, famous for The Open, and a place like Tommy's Bunker, nicknamed by Mr. Nakajima, a Japanese male professional golfer. There is no...
Even so, the Guard Bunker and Fairway Bunker around the Green are around 200 to 250 yards, but the layout makes the most of nature, so in my case sand trap (Bunker) is easier to hit unless it hardens due to heavy rain!
At the nearby golf course where I often go, there are two guard bunkers with cliffs nearly 3m high in front of the green of the 18th hole. there is! Because it's Par 5...
I always ray up near white gravel and aim for green from there!
So, in this course, we are asking couples who are going to Round together how to attack!
Looking at the golf course from the castle, I don't know where the fairway is, but only the green has a red flag and is a beautiful green, so I always enter the castle to check how the golf course was rounded. increase!
