Reviews of North Solihull Sports Centre
L. F.
I have been using this for a few years now for my kids swimming lessons. Great progress before covid but after covid it feels like they have too many in the class and the pool is overcrowded. Took my daughter a long time to move up stage even though she was ready. My biggest issue is that they have stopped providing shoe covers for the pool side so everyone is walking along the pool side with dirty shoes which no doubt gets tracked into the pool. I started off taking my shoes off but it felt so gross walking barefoot in other people's dirt I have also started leaving mine on.
I started the fitness classes a couple of months ago and really enjoy them. I definitely get my moneys worth out of them and feeling the difference.
Both the kids swimming membership and the fitness membership is a good price. I would happily give extra stars if they sorted out the shoes on poolside issue and if the lessons didn't feel so crowded
A. K.
I've been taking my grandson for swimming lessons each week for the last 2 years and he is mostly loving it.
The classes consist of upto 10 children per class and classes last for 30 minutes. Personally I would prefer to see no more than 8 children per class.
This costs £23 pm. This is for a 30 minute class each week. This will still be charged even if your child does not attend the class. If the centre cancels the class for any reason, you should not be charged for that week. Just keep an eye on your DD and talk to the centre if there's a discrepancy.
Some teachers are more punctual and focussed in their classes than others, so it pays to try and get your child into a class with one of those. You can swope classes if there is space in another group of the same swimming stage.
All my interactions with the staff have been friendly and professional.
There are two life guards in attendance to cover the two swimming areas.
There are no longer any covid restrictions in place.
Cleanliness has always been quite good considering the volumes of people using the centre at peak times.
Within each swimming stage there are various objectives for each child to complete before they move up into the next stage.
The center uses an app to monitor each childs progress but this has been malfunctioning for months and more recently stop working/updating completely.
With the children in any given class frequently changing, I cannot see how the teacher can currently gauge the optimal lesson plan for each class in any given stage.
Whilst this does not seem to be a safety issue, it does mean that classes can be boring and less productive, if the majority of the group are already accomplished in a given exercise which continues to be favoured.
Overall I still score the centre 4 as my grandson is enjoying the lessons and still slowly progressing with his swimming abilities, and £23 pm is still value for money.
They really need to get the APP sorted out.

I love this place, the staff are lovely, I joined a couple of months ago to try to get myself fit and loose weight ,being a large lady I was a bit apprehensive but I couldn't have been treated any better I was shown around first before committing and now I have joined I can book my sessions to suite myself a great place with friendly people a nice cafe great pool and great gym facilities I love it the staff are extremely helpful and they will help you regarding any physical problems you may have they will recommend what you need to be doing to suite you best .
C. S.
The organisation is questionable. Every week they tell me they have sorted our issue with our access card only for it to not work again the next visit. I completely understand why people can't enter until 5 minutes before their activity now, but it just ends up with a large group of people gathered at the entrance as there are never enough people on the front desk to address and questions or queries.
The cleanliness of the changing rooms is questionable and that doesn't even take into account the numerous lockers and cubicles that are in need of repair. The showers are not in use at the moment, but even when they are they are useless.
If it wasn't for the results I've seen from the swimming lessons provided I would go elsewhere. The swimming instructors have coached and encouraged my children amazingly well and are a credit to the place.
M. L.
Good facilities and friendly staff with ample parking on site.
l. m.
Staff lovely but it's not very clean bins overflowing needs mopping
R. W.
5* for the staff, who have been fantastic through these trying times, but the gym (and EA as a company) get marked down.
Reasonable gym, would like to see another power rack in there though. Staff are doing a great job keeping everything clean, sanitary and spaced out during the Covid pandemic. Though, for £25 a month (granted, that does include swimming and sauna when they reopen), it's not the cheapest option out there.
A few gripes:
1.) drinking water - the flow from that single pitiful tap in the gym is dreadful, takes nearly 3 minutes to fill a bottle! I shudder to think when the filter was last changed, as the pipework appears to go up into the ceiling. Not to mention the drinking spout has had electrical tape stuck over it as long as I can remember being a member.
2.) Olympic lifting platform has started coming apart
3.) There's only 1 of the 8' 20kg olympic bars (excluding the bench press); that means if you're forced to use the smaller squat rack instead of the power rack, you're limited to the 6' 14kg bar, which catches when racking or unracking. Also, if someone decides to use the 20kg bar for, say, rows - then that means the entire power rack and olympic platform are rendered bar-less. It would make far more sense to have a couple of spare 20kg bars, so people can use the oly platform and the rack at the same time.
4.) There is a lump in the floor in the small squat rack, which makes heavy squats quite risky if you get your footing wrong.
4.) The weighing scales died two weeks ago, and still haven't been replaced.
5.) The total lack of policing the booking system (see below)!
Since the reopening from lockdown 3.0, the gym is limited to 35 people per 50-minute slot. So far this week (it's a Monday morning), slots for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are fully booked for peak times. The problem is, whenever I have been to the gym during these peak times, it's unusual to count more than 20 people in the gym - this suggests that people are booking up slots, not attending and thereby preventing people who actually want to go from going.
I honestly feel that Everyone Active should at least be policing this - having turned up at the gym to see if there was a spare space, I was told that because the system says there are 35 people in (there weren't), then I can't use the gym.
Why not monitor people using their card on the turnstile against people who have booked - repeat offenders can then be given a warning, or prevented from booking online?

Enjoyed the slow lane swim. Very busy for public periods do not like the idea of unisex changing rooms though.
T. K.
I couldn't find my way out of the carpark. In fact, I'm still there.
c. n.
Staff are always very helpful and willing to help. Gym staff are A* always happy to show you how to use equipment when asked and to should you the best way to work out if you are having issues or injuries.
M. E.
I used to use this place all the time. It has a great gym. However what made me leave was the opening and closing times. It just couldn't fit in around my work and the times I needed the gym for. But as a starter I loved it. The staff were always nice and helpful and the gym itself was generally clean. Well much cleaner than the gym I use now.
The one downside of it though is the mixed changing rooms for the swimming pool. Maybe it's changed since I've left. However that used to make me feel uncomfortable. Otherwise a nice and friendly place to workout.
D. C.
Booked in today nice staff looking forward to using the gym
D. O.
Friendly front desk staff. Average price for a swim. Clean. Lockers worked fine. 2 swim lanes were quiet at 8am. I couldn't see private showers- do group showers. Parking is ample and free and away from anybody roads with no height restrictions .
P. T.
Desent sized pool with separate shallow pool for the very young. Some play furniture but I've rarely seen them not closed off sadly. Diving platforms but no boards.
Fair sized cafe with good views of both pools. TV on wall which has NEVER worked properly since it was installed by whatever cowboy outfit. Hot and cold drinks and snacks (crisps, toast, sausage rolls etc) available.
Forget ringing for advice though - the phones there are just for decoration.
A. R.
Big, clean, and lots of motivated individuals!
K. W.
We love this place for family swimming.
In fact we come all.the way from bedworth. Girls come here to swim with kingsbury swiming club on a Sunday so weve started coming as a family on a saturday or in the holidays.
Staff are all very very friendly.
Water temp not bad.
Ok maybe changing rooms could be a bit cleaner but not many changing rooms are.
BEST.bit is the lovely staff in the cafe and the food is yum best chips weve tasted.
L. W.
Never had a problem with the facilities. I go swimming most mornings.
Only complaint I have is not being able to phone and speak to admin assistant on reception. Each time thought I was being put through to someone just kept being disconnected.
L. G.
Had swimming lessons when I was 10, lovely staff taught me to swim, changing rooms and pool were spotless. The water temperature was a bit cold at times but the bestswming baths I've ever been too
m. e.
Shocking the state of the pool, need a good clean. do not like the unisex changing rooms, never enough staff at desk.Adults only swim is a joke you only get 1/3 of the pool.Shower need sorting out, just dribbling out, and need more regular checks to clean so many other peoples hair disgusting.
R. S.
Went here for a cat show. The facilities were fine, until I came to need the toilet.
I'm disabled, and need to use a disabled toilet. Of the 2 disabled toilets there, one was permanently locked.
I approached the reception area a number of times, asking them to unlock this toilet. Each time they insisted it must be in use by somebody.
On this particular day, I'd developed a very upset stomach, and so was making many trips to the toilet. Each time I passed, the first toilet was locked.
Other people had mentioned to me they were seeing the same thing too. So despite reception's insistence that it had been unlocked that morning, many of us concluded that it hadn't been, or it had been locked up again for some reason.
So there was just one disabled toilet, and on one occasion during the day, I had to wait a while as the toilet was engaged when I got to it.
Fair enough you might think, as did I, until a fully fit and able bodied member of staff appeared from the toilet!!
I was amazed, doesn't this place have any staff toilets?
To make things worse, when entering the toilet, it became apparent why I'd been waiting a while, as it was very smelly in there!!

Once called "Chelmsley Wood Swimming Pool", it is now a sports centre that meets needs of all. The pool, which is the focus of this review, is 33 metres, opens daily from 7am. Staff are friendly and helpful, changing rooms are, for the most part, tidy and clean. Lockers are a pound (returned when wrist band key is inserted back into locker). Getting here first thing in the morning is best, you more or less have the spacious, brightly lit pool to yourself.
K. R.
Good facilities and well priced. The pool is a little cold for very young kids so you weren't want to take them for more than an hour but I'm told this temperature is much better for distance swimming.
S. C.
Reasonably clean and well kept. They have lots of classes but not much for children other than swimming. Disappointing and absurd that they sell so much junk food. Sweets, chocolate, crisps, cakes, cookies, fizzy drinks, fried and processed foods, just what everyone needs to keep their body healthy and fueled for exercise! As a member here expect to have random texts sent to you trying to sell you things
A. F.
Always enjoyed going here since I was a child. Nice to be able to bring my children here to make memories
P. W.
My son has swimming lessons here which are definitely worth the cost. Reasonably priced for swim but main pool is Freezing we went in couldn't even stay 1/2 an hour as we was all shivering.
j. k.
Kids LOVE their swimming lessons. They have a lot of fun. The hygiene of the baths is diabolical. I'm constantly complaining... sadly zero improvement. Sadly, my only option for swimming lessons.
S. B.
Good swimming pool, took my young children early in hope for a quiet play in small pool. We couldn't access it due to swimming lessons, disappointed children didn't want to wait 2 hours for swim in small pool
A. S.
Visited this centre for dancing competition in the main sports hall.
Very good large floor. Facilities well used. Swimming pools with slide. Small cafeteria. Was fairly hot to sit and eat in next to swimming pools. Gym. Zumba in smaller hall.
C. M.
Has a swimming pool suitable for my infant son and is clean, if a little tatty and worn down (hasn't changed since I was a child).
Not sure about other facilities as haven't used them
A. P.
Good facilities, a little bit pricy for some things, cafe is expensive unless you have chips and they are reasonably priced. Staff friendly. I do not like the mixed changing rooms and think there should be male and female changing areas.
L. W.
Good facilities to the eye. Your average leisure centre really. Food is shocking! As with most council run spaces, health is not on the menu!
S. m.
Great place, just joined. Staff are helpful and friendly. Gym is great and facilities are great. Sessions are useful and easy to book. Best gym local to me by far.
B.
It's good for learners my how to swim, for advanced swimmers and good for babies but not that good if you want to get into a bubbly jecuzi then it won't happen. I preferred stechford because it has more slides but me and my friends really enjoy this.
S.
Very clean good equipment. Not quite as friendly as my other gym memberships in the pass. Would have given it 5 star if it had friendly services
L. B.
Pool is ok - website needs updating as keeps crashing. Gym membership is one of the dearest to join and the changing rooms could be cleaner. People should take their rubbish with them.
J. P.
Great place. Staff was Spot on.
D. J.

E. H.
Great pool and facilities. Friendly staff. Clean pool. Price slightly to high for casuals. Changing rooms could be warmer.
C. S.
Love this place, me and my granddaughter had a great time. We had the pool to ourselfs on Wednesday, as school pupils don't use the pool on this day. Friendly staff X
M. v. B.
Can only comment on the pool, which in itself is kept well, but lacks any kind of features. Waterslide only opens a number of times a day unfortunately.
P. L.
Lovely place to go for a swim. Inexpensive and clean. Have not used other facilities
G. C.

Facilities are very good. However on the occasion that I visited there was lots of rubbish all around the car park and bins were overflowing.
M. C.
Me and my son like coming hear to the swimming pool, but every time we come the slide is never open as we only go on school holidays it should be made priority.
