Reviews of David Lloyd Bristol Emersons Green

Joined recently as a member after my tour with Emma who was really kind, patient and fun, she was really helpful in answering my many questions and really patient too. I really like the gym here, the front of house staff are really friendly and the gym itself is spacious with lots of equipment.
Super happy about the lounge/bar area, there are plenty of spaces to sit, have coffee, drinks or food and a dedicated space to take your laptop and work if you need it. I like that there are these huge tennis/badminton courts, it's not personally my thing but I love that it's an option should I change my mind.
The spa is pretty incredible, and might be the best bit about the gym, I haven't spent as much time there as I want to yet. The app to book classes is pretty straight forward, I've not had any issue navigating it, the class schedule, booking a class or cancelling (whoops guilty).
I've not personally experienced the over crowding mentioned in some other reviews and I've gone in on a weekend and after work on a week day and found it was actually fine. Though there can be a lot of kids at certain times around the pool area but it's easy enough to check the timetables and make an educated guess as to when they will be there.
My grumbles behind the review being 4 and not 5 is that the changing rooms (unable to comment on male changing rooms) seems a bit squeezed and doesn't seem to be in keeping with the rest of the gym in terms of the high end, state of the art, luxury vibe - It's okay but I was hoping for more space, a few more private changing cubicles etc. It feels a lil cramped and there are small things that have bothered me like the various hand lotion dispensers having caps missing. I'd also like to see more antibacterial wipe stations for the gym equipment. (I'm not normally so picky but for a month to £150 fee, I think it's okay to mention these)

It's a lovely club, I joined with my partner back in December 2021. It's really nice to have a variety of spa facilities available after a long gym session or a swim. The food is lovely too. With that being said, there have been numerous times where we haven't been able to do a workout/go for a swim due to the club being overcrowded. It seems as though there are way too many members for one club, and it would help if they introduced a 'number of people in the club' counter upon entry into the club which could be seen on the app (similar to what Puregym do). This would really help us plan our time better as it's a shame to turn up only to find that everything is being used. When it's busy, it's also really difficult to have food/drinks in the bar; the last time we were there, we were told that there would be a 25 minute wait just for a coffee. Maybe having specific family opening times/longer opening hours/restrictions on numbers of people in the club at any given time would make a change.
Overall, it's a nice club, it's just very busy! I think at the moment due to the volume of members it's not necessarily worth the cost (as we're not using the gym as much as we would like to) and doesn't have that 'exclusive' feel, but I hope that some of the suggestions I've made above help!

It's obviously a nice club with lots of facilities and classes but honestly it feels over subscribed.
It's really hard to get a place in any of the classes because they're always at max capacity, the inside tennis courts don't have air con so they get really hot but then through winter have really little availability.
Quite often there is at least one thing broken in the spa or out of order.
The food has recently got better but still lacks healthy options (ironic for a gym) and the customer service is incredibly hit and miss. Some lovely lovely staff there but just as many who clearly don't enjoy talking to customers at all.
The worst thing is though that they have absolutely no monitoring of the disabled spots in the car park and every time I've been recently they're taken up by people who don't have blue badges which they just don't seem to care about.
That said, the spa is great, as is the swimming pool and the gym has always had spaces when I've been.

Lovely gym with really friendly staff. Everybody is there to help you. The facilities are new and at peak time you do get overcrowdedness, so bear that in mind whe you join. Sometimes it is hard to book in a class as it fills up quickly, but putting an alert on can help you land that last available space. Otherwise it's best to show up and see if the Class trainer will let you in.
When you sign up you get 3 PT sessions (which you have to use on the first 3 weeks of your membership). Also there is a 4 week tennis course available, but unfortunately, I couldn't get on the tennis course. I did however enjoy weeks worth of Master Swim class, which exceded my expextations in learning front-crawl. The teachers are lovely and they really help you in every little detail.
I feel like DAvid Lloys is really family oriented and not very well suited for single goers. It works out cheaper for couples and family, but not to anyone that choses to go in their own.
If you would like to enjoy some pool time, better to go on not sunny days (trust me) or in the morning/after 7. This is the prime time when kids are removed from the pool so you can actually do some exercise.
Fortunately, no kids are allowed in the Spa area, which works out great.
So overall, for single, working professionals, you will have couple of times when you can't enjoy the pool and you will struggle to get on some of the classes, but if you are in dire need of a steamroom and sauna, and you live close by, than it is worth the money.

I think this place is great, where else can you get these top notch facilities in Bristol. To be able to relax in the sauna and jacuzzi after a workout is priceless and I value it so much. I don't do any classes so can't speak of their quality but they are always packed so they must be good. The gym facilities are the best I've experienced (apart from some treadmills aren't connected to the TV but I don't go there to watch TV so it's not worth putting that down). Tennis, food, coffee, swimming, gym, sauna, badminton and more can be enjoyed here.
However it's hard not to feel entitled to perfection when you are paying so much money. The place will feel like a kids zone in peak hours, it does get really busy and it isn't perfect all the time but the lovely staff soften these blows. I think they do an awesome job!
I just hope they don't sell too many memberships and the place gets too busy, but that's just me wanting it to myself. If you go after 8 it's mostly peaceful and you can get on any machine you want.
PS I don't know what a fellow reviewer is on about when they say the soap is watered down, I actually find it the total opposite. I mean it's not the best and dries my skin out but it's included along with the towel so I can't complain.
