I started training with Shield a few years ago and can honestly say that it has been one of the best things I have done. Although joining any new club can always be a bit nerve racking, you are very quickly put at ease by the excellent instructors and the friendly and welcoming members.
Brendan and Chris are brilliant instructors that give great practical training that improves both your fitness and your confidence.
The classes are set up to cater for all ages and abilities and everyone will take something beneficial away from each class.
Although I originally started attending the classes for self defence, I now also attend the fitness classes and through Chris's excellent training sessions, I have seen a marked difference in my overall fitness levels and body shape.
I would highly recommend Shield Fitness and Self Defence to anyone and would suggest that you try one of their regular Beginner sessions to see how it can benefit you.

I have been at shield for about 6 years now and the classes are amazing. Chris and Brendan are two of the nicest guys you could hope to meet and their training is fantastic. They genuinely take an interest in everyone in the club and make anyone feel welcomed. The members are all great and the classes are filled with plenty of chat as well as learning amazing techniques in practical self defence and ways to improve your fitness.
I cant recommend it enough and my advice is to come along and give it a try and meet the team we would be happy to have you and you will very likely enjoy yourself and have a great time.

Really big, well equipped gym space, where everyone trains together and supports each other. Chris is a very skilled and knowledgeable trainer that makes everyone feel comfortable and confident and in safe hands. Chris' style of training is straight forward and common sense and it works! I've always been into different types of training but never quite met my goals, achieved them and more in 12 weeks at Shield. Would recommend to anyone for strength and conditioning training or for krav classes.

I've been training here for over 3 and a half years and absolutely love it! I was initially nervous as I'm not great joining new groups but I was put at ease almost instantly! Chris is a fab trainer who pushes me so that I have lifted heavy things I never imagined I would be able to! I have definitely noticed a good improvement in my overall fitness and Chris is supportive and knowledgeable about diet and things too helping me be as accountable as I want to be! I've never stuck to any other fitness program or class this long! Highly recommend to anyone!!

I have been attending this gym for around 12 weeks now and I wish I had started sooner. It offers a different environment to most of your run of the mill gyms where I would have no idea where to start when it comes to working out and where I would have felt out of place and most probably self conscious. Shield fitness gives me the confidence to step out with my comfort zone and everyone is treated equally.
When it comes to workouts it differs every time so it keeps it interesting whilst maintaining a good balance of working a lot of muscle groups. I have definitely felt a massive difference when it comes to weight and also muscle tone. I now feel far better when it comes to clothes that I wear and just general day to day life, and I look forward to what I am capable of achieving in the weeks and months to follow. I know I would have never achieved this if it were not for the dedication and the commitment of the trainer Chris and the others round about me as nobody is ever made to feel different and everyone works together.
Would highly recommend shield fitness if you are looking for somewhere to just be yourself and achieve goals in a happy and pleasant environment.

Excellent mixed martial arts facility teaching practical self defence and a great variety of fighting styles including stand up, ground fighting and Kali stick fighting.
Chris and Brendan are fantastic, skilled and incredibly patient instructors and the fitness classes are excellent. Chris has also helped me with my phyical rehab following a bad injury and I know he has helped other students with their physio. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

I was familiar with going to the gym and weight training before joining shield fitness but I wasn't getting the results I wanted. Through advice and feedback from Chris, I realise I wasn't training effectively before. I joined the group sessions and found it really motivating to train with others with similar goals but also have one to one contact with a PT during the session. Chris gave me the confidence to safely train throughout my entire pregnancy by designing a training plan to suit me at all stages. Now I'm back training & my post pregnancy transformation is ongoing.

Brilliant gym with two brilliant and knowledgeable instructors Chris and Brendan. The fitness classes are excellent as are the self defence classes. Great bunch of guys and girls who attend the gym. Everyone is made to feel very welcome.

Started training at Shield fitness and self defence a few years ago now and can’t recommend it enough classes are varied and always kept interesting and the instructors Chris and Brendan make you feel at ease and great at passing on there knowledge. Great gym! Everyone welcome regardless of shape, size, ability as training plans are very person centred even if you are training in the group setting! Chris is extremely knowledgeable and encouraging, it's a fab place to get to ur goals Id recommend it to anyone!

Shield is a great mix of fitness & self defence. After studying different styles of martial arts over the years I discovered Shield & it's Krav Maga classes. It's the best most direct form of self defence there is, Chris & Brendan are two great instructors who give clear instructions & create a friendly & welcoming atmosphere to train in. The fitness classes are great too always felt intimidated working out in other gyms but here at Shield I've never felt like that, everyone is equal & the instruction is spot on. I would highly recommend Shield to everyone for fitness or self defence.

If you want to get fit and learn self defence this is the perfect place to do it.
The Instructors Chris and Brendan are very knowledgable and cater for all people, regardless of your previous experience.
The regular members of the club are very encouraging and make you feel welcome.
With regular begginer courses to try , I would definitely recommend attending one and seeing for yourself.

I've trained Krav Maga with Brendan and Chris since before they were Krav instructors....Even then they were both patient and took the time to explain techniques to others in the class....That's actually a great feature of Krav, since it's not a 'hierarchical' structure, all levels train together and work on varied techniques each session....1 session might be a 'basic' strike defence, whilst the next might be something much more complicated. Being based on the body's natural reactions it's not necessary to know all lower level techniques before you can move on and do anything else. No standing watching the Big Boys (and Girls!!) thinking 'I wish I could try that'....You'll be part of it straight away.
When they opened the Shield gym I started the Amazing 12 Course which Chris was running....And I've been going there ever since!!
I've trained and lifted weights since I was young (early High School which is 35 years ago now), so knowing 'how' to do most things isn't such an issue although it is always good to have someone cast an experienced eye over your technique. But the times, small groups and varied exercises/routines are something that I couldn't replicate for myself....It would be too easy to go 'stale' and then start to take option of not pushing myself.
Over the years there have been regulars and new faces, but everyone just get's on with it....No mirrors, no posing, no sitting about posting on social media....Everyone's there to train. However, there is also a great camaraderie both within the classes and a across the wider gym community.
I'd absolutely recommend Shield Fitness and Self Defence, but everyone has different requirements and motivations. Give them a call and have a chat....The worst thing would be not to at least give them a try.

I started training here in july and have really noticed a difference in confidence, I didn't like traditional gyms as I found people were judgemental but here all the members are welcoming and helpful, chris has helped me to get out my comfort zone and pushed me to achieve things I didn't think I could, no session is ever the same with workouts changed which balance out well. I feel stronger and wont be long till my clothes start to fit more comfortably 😁

Having attended Shield Krav Maga for three years, I have to say that it is a brilliant place to train and learn invaluable skills that will help you deal with some pretty dire situations. Chris and Brendan are great instructors, taking the time to break techniques down into the smallest of details to help you learn and implement them effectively while also throwing in a bit of humour too. With conditioning classes running in addition to the Krav Maga classes, there's the opportunity to train throughout the week which really is excellent value for money. Would highly recommend Shield to anyone considering learning Krav Maga.
