Reviews of Moberly Sports Centre
A. C.
I booked a 1 hr session of Badminton today, first time user. I really don’t know what to expect. I tried calling customer service and no person is answering the phone. I’m somewhat suspicious of the feedback others have written, and just as well haven’t become a member yet. After visit, changed to 4/5 stars. Only negative, no parking.
j.
Prices are fair. Very good size. Place is very clean. Their check in system is spot on. Internet doesn’t work properly, it has some kind of ip block, so you can’t use all your apps (you actually can’t use the everyone active app while on their wifi unless you have a VPN). Staff are not rude, but they’re not nice either (there are a couple of exceptions). Machines and water fountain take weeks to get fixed. Makes no sense. I do like training there, I just think they could be so much better.
O. M.
Has definitely improved since it first opened. Seems to be more organised, staff are much friendlier than before. Well done Moberly staff keep at it and keep improving. It’s a great facility for the community

Enough of right equipment and equipment is ok etc… but, gym gets stuffy quickly. Not enough ventilation especially in weights area. Gym very much enclosed and could do with some outside air circulating round the gym, as I have seen in other gyms. Matts have finally been replaced as they were almost black with filth. Could do more to protect attendees!

The best Everyone Active Gym that I have been so far, staff in the reception are kind and helpful, swimming pool is great especially the learner pool where they change the depth accordingly with the lessons.. I would give 5* but I tried calling them recently twice and no answer at all, I have read same comments here about how difficult it is ti reach them by phone..
F. A.
Fantastic and very good facilities with lovely people. Out of which Table Tennis with many tables and fantastic players
A. B.
I have been going here almost 6 months and I enjoy it the staff are really nice and the classes are great 😁

Sauna cost £15 for an hour, I've found bigger one for far less with far more space, for 3 hours stay!🤷🏿♂️

Its very strange and empty. Which is understandable. Spotless as always. I forget my card for entry to swim. I thought you could use your phone to get through the turnstiles. Lesson learnt. Staff are very nice.
I'm a little deaf and didn't hear the announcement to leave the pool when time was up. I got a tap on the hand with a pole. They were not angry very understanding.
Other members of the public could learn some lessons from them. They don't talk to you and yes I did sneeze once in the sunshine outside not a crime.
Yes I did sanitize. Also to the nasty person who didn't flush the toilet. Otherwise happy to be back

I feel like I've been to a different centre to some of the comments below.
I'm not sure if people aren't looking properly because I've never not had a shower cubicle with a door in both the group/family changing area and female? There are lockers you can use a £1 coin for outside of the female/male changing areas rather than an actual lock. I think the gym is well equipped but I go at quieter times so maybe that is why I have no issues.
Cons: floors and inside lockers could be cleaner but this is why they have the blue bag policy in the changing areas for the floor. No excuse for the state inside the lockers. Receptionists need better training to provide up to date information without an attitude. Swimming timetable can be confusing.
All together i think it's a good centre. The membership is a good price to cover swimming, gym and classes in one and children can swim free under an adult membership. Nice building.

There is a lady called Dee her classes is phenomenal & she really gives you a good workout. I go to at least 2/3 of her classes & she is such a fantastic motivater. Her class most of the times we are all sweating & our heart rate has had a good work out. She does a class called Spin well we are upset if we don't get a place in this class & sometimes book every other week.

A great facility recently opened, 2 nice pools although the main pool is too cold and as a regular pool user its not right for a family centre.
The gymnastics setup is very impressive but I've not seen 1 boy in a class.
Overall very nice but just 1 member of staff ruins it.
If you claim to have an equal opportunities policy then you should follow it
T. M.
Using mainly the pool. Pre-booking sessions on the app to max. 10 people per lane is wonderful. Prevents pool overcrowding that sometimes happens at certain hours, making it unbearable to swim. This scheme should be maintained after COVID.
Good facilities and staff.
j. k.
Really good gym, very professionally managed. Gym equipment is modern, easy to adjust the machines, and the aerobics machines are fully personalised so you can choose anything you want to watch or hear. The facility was already well cleaned before Covid, but now it is extra pristine. The centre is very careful vis a vis Covid. They restrict numbers at any time. Not much more they could do.
M.
Gym very spacious. Plenty of equipment, Not enough staff to show how to use. Can foresee plenty of injuries to gym "newbies"
Shame only 2 studios.
Small space in ladies swimming changing rooms. Policy to wear blue plastic covers over outdoor shoes in changing rooms not enforceable and a waste. Think environment people. I understand pool side but in the changing rooms?
Shower from studio 2 can be accessed by anyone. Not safe. Needs to be reconsidered..
C. A.
The facilities are great and it’s lovely to have such a new and spacious centre in our community, but I do agree with some of the reviews below in that they should up the ante on the cleaning regime. I don’t shower there anymore as the changing rooms are so dirty and it’s often mentioned and discussed by other members when you’re there. Some (not all!) of the staff members can also be quite rude when you try to talk to them about it.
These are quick fixes though so I’m hopeful they will take on board people’s comments and improve on these issues.

I love Moberly sports center.
I would be so lonely without it, keeps me fit and healthy.
I thank everyone for making the GYM safe to use.
J. A.
I have a swimming membership and will be cancelling it as I've found every visit frustrating. The lifeguards are allowing kids in the swimming lanes when they should be playing in the general pool area, slow swimmers are in the fast lane, fast swimmers are in the general swim area. It's all over the place it's not cheap and its impossible to swim without disturbance, just a bit more attention to managing the lanes would be appreciated.
R. (.
Facilities at the place are very good. Brand new building so all clean and crisp.
The staff here are all over the gaff though. Very unorganised, quite standoffish and unhelpful. Will be joining for the classes and good facilities and hopefully the poor staffing will improve in due course.
We can’t let a few poorly trained lot of Neanderthals dictate where we spend healthy time. Staff come and go, residents stay a lot longer.
Would recommend for price and facilities.
A.
Lots of good points but some niggling issues. Men's changing rooms desperately need swimsuit driers. Lockers usually faulty and those inside the changing room constantly at risk of theft. Biggest frustration is trying to call as no one seems willing to answer the phone. The website if unbelievably obtuse for something as simple as whether children can swim on a Sunday mid afternoon (they can't). Sitting waiting until 5pm for mine to be permitted to go in. Wish I'd known before arriving.

THIS CENTRE DOES NOT DO LATERAL FLOW TESTS ANYMORE!!
but great centre and staff are friendly!!
S. G.
Listen up people I am sick of people going on about how rude an unhelpful staff at moberly are.
The way some members of the general public talk to staff there is utterly disgraceful. No please or thank yous. Demands and the tones of voices they use.
I had to tell one man about the way his lack of manners.
He told me I had no right to talk to him the ways I did.
I replied
Yet it's ok for you to talk to staff here like it?
If your in a mood or have an attitude. Leave it outside or deal with it when your swimming or working out.
All new few problems. Lots of ignorant children giving the life guard teams a hard time. One boy stole my son's goggles twice but I got them back.
After all the money spent there is no parking for staff or visitors to the centre. There is a huge amount of empty space. No water stations. Disabled change room has not got a lock. Otherwise it's a fabulous room.
Access steps to the pool are to narrow a ramp into the water would have been a much better idea. Lift only one is tiny.group change is not well though out neither is female changing area.
Crush canteen has to toilets right slap bang in the middle of it.
Nice to see familiar faces miss jubilee desperately.
Don't like the new uniforms staff have to wear trousers but change into shorts for pool side. Hello emergency access. It's also a sports centre not a shop
A. A. K. (.
Brand new facility and the staff have been very helpful and great. The only negative feedback I have is the mens changing rooms, the showers are mixed and not sepreated. Since it's a new build at least they should have did something about it . Also the family rooms where you change, there is only one cloak to hang your clothes!!! There needs to be more since its a family changing rooms.
J. F.
Newly built leisure centre with medium size cold water swimming pool with slow, middle and fast lane for more serious swimmers as well as lanes/area for recreational paddling about. Also smaller warm water pool adjacent to the cold water pool. Very small seating area next to cold water pool for family and visitor waiting. Check rules for swimmers and visitors before attending as staff are quite strict on enforcing them e.g. all visitors must wear disposable elasticated shoe covers. There is also a gym with separate changing rooms.
S. P.
It’s a basic gym and swimming pools , no soups provided and towels . Shovers surprised me , as its 5 shovers close to each other without any cabin , so you expose to be seen by members .Pressure in the shover very bad , not possible to rinse shampoo from hair . I’m having shovers at home , as I am living close , but I wouldn’t be there if I would have had live far .
Gym is good , but not much equipment yet . Hope it will soon , because gym does look nice and everything is new .
There is very good cafe with lots of choices of smoothie , but very expensive 5 pounds for a medium one . I think is too much . Even in Virgin it doesn’t cost that much , min 3 pounds .
People who does work there are having terrible accent , so it’s very hard to understand them . Some of them even not mentain eye contact and speaking not clear and silent , like no confident .They should employe a little bit better staff or at least they should have some training with hospitality .
Gym trainers are nice and polite . They are very helpful .
K. A.
You need to buy your own padlock to use the lockers there... why?
You can't rent the boxing ring as you need supervision... but there is no one there to supervise...
Not the best customer service, but not the worst either, good facilities and prices
c. m.
Great gym all the equipment you might need and lot's of instructors on hand to help. Pool is also great during the day but can be busy after school.
M. Á. R. P.
What a venue!
Lights, cleanliness, awesome atmosphere,... Went there to play a table tennis game, and it's fantastic.
It's a shame it's quite far for me to go every week, but I will pop over every now and then, just because it's fresh and modern.
o.
Facility was good, just that the staff is abit unresponsive
A. A.
love the gym facilities. Had a few teething problems in the beginning with the id cards and getting access but that seems to be ironed out now. I hate the group changing rooms. The fact they spent 28 million on the facitiy (must include the flats above) I would expect individual cubicles and soap dispensers. This will determine wether me and my friends renew our memebership next year. SORT IT OUT
j. r.
I realized that the Corona virus protacal that they took to protect everyone was very good. And I'm happy that they had the changing room open even though I thought it was going to be shut so thank you
S. B.
Opening on 30th June 2018, this is going to be an amazing facility! Two pools, Eight Court Sports Hall, Gymnastics Hall, boxing hall, spa/sauna, multi sensory/community room, 100 station gym, and two studios!
1.
Nice clean place, a vast range of stuff to do.
HOWEVER, I feel like you shouldn’t have to have a membership to get into the building. I hate having to stand at the reception and wait for someone to let me through.
k.
I love the Moberly centre. Ignore earlier poor reviews. Anywhere new will uace teething issues. The space is so big and clean with state of the art equipment and so far I have never seen it busy. Thumbs up from me.
S. S.
So nice to have such a modern sports centre close to where I live. Miniature swimming pool 🏊♂️ it’s difficult to swim freely without bumping heads 😒 also quite high pricing for a council Leisure centre.
M.
I just renewed my Everyone Active membership at Moberly after it expired at the Porchester branch. Moberly offered me a much better and fairer membership option than Porchester. Samir, who renewed my membership at Moberly, patiently and politely explained the best available options (in contrast to the unfriendly Porchester membership team who only told me about the more expensive options). I can still use Everyone Active facilities in all other branches, including Porchester, while paying less. Plus the fact, that Moberly has a bigger (and warmer) studio for the yoga and Pilates classes.
A. B.
Both the pool and gym are amazing! They have a rule about wearing blue shoe covers in the areas near the swimming pool, but I'll accept that!
M. A.
I have tried to phone them 20+ times in the last 2 year to ask over the phone they haven't answer the phone once. The place is okay though. Front desk Staff unfortunately not so much.
J. L.
I really liked that place.. a nice community house with different kind of activities affordable for everyone.
Special thanks to the big man being my training partner 💪😎
H. P.
My first visit. New, bright and clean but too much chemicals in the swimming pool water. I got a running nose and kept sneezing all day.
Y. Y.
Big problem with the staff ! Not welcoming and Not helpful at all they just don’t care about everything what you would like to ask or know ! I love this place as it’s very clean and nice but you should work with the staff about the manners
S. B.
I haven’t explored all of the sports centre yet but it’s fresh, spacious and has a great range of activities. There’s also a great cafe on the ground level that sells healthy food and juices.
M.
Gym's lovely but the customer service is atrocious! Constant membership/account problems which just do not get fixed, constantly having to chase them, the phone never gets picked up....
