Reviews of Nuffield Health Wimbledon Fitness & Wellbeing Gym

This is an updated review. In my last review I complained about the gym being messy and the re being no privacy in the changing room showers. However these issues are all resolved now. The gym is a lot more organized now because of the active working staff. And the showers now have 2 good curtains. I'm really impressed with there quick response to this problem. Many thanks

Decided to change, from Virgin active. Good gym with good equipment. Just two things: when I signed up they told me they would have resumed free towel as soon as covid restrictions lifted (in England there are no restrictions at the moment but no free towels). Second would be nice ti to see at least one trainer in the gym floor if you need any help like a quick spot. Otherwise highly recommended as gym. Thanks

Great classes offered at the gym. Toilets in the female changing rooms can be busy as there is not enough of them. Spa area often out of order.

Recently revamped gym floor, now with state-of-the-art TechnoGym equipment. At least 4 squat racks. Has 20m, 3-lane swimming pool, unisex Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Towels are free of charge, although a £1 hire fee applies if you need more than one. Lockers are locked with a key but you must insert your membership card for them to work. Can’t speak for any of the classes, as I haven’t experienced them.

Have been a member for two years, the classes are good and the staff always very friendly. A lot can be done on maintainance work, I tried to find a rope for jumping once, there were three that were broken. The cleaners do what they can to keep the place tidy, but with some women treating the place like sh*t and leaving their used tampons in the showers, I think you can clean as much as you want but, at a certain point, it comes down to common sense, which so many people don't have.
That said, love the gym and will keep going there.

Love this gym. Lots from to choose from the classes and the gym itself. Staff is very friendly and supportive as for new members and support in your latter training. I've had classes with PT Dan and i found him very knowledgeable. He recognised my abilities and created training programme that i found challenging and fun. Regardless this lockdown, Dan is still available to his clients over his Instagram profile and doing classes with same enthusiasm as in the gym. Would definitely recommend to join the Wimbledon gym and see it for yourself.

Only got two minor complaints.... the steam room isn't very "steamy", there's normally a really big puddle in the middle of it and the lights always seem to be on the blink. It's also smelled pretty bad in there a few times. Hot tub seems to stop working pretty easily too.
The cleaning cupboard in the ladies changing rooms is a bit gross and smells like old mop, but it's always left open.
Overall though it's a nice clean gym, very good personal trainers and class instructors.

I purchased a weeks pass via PayAsuGym as I was in the area on business and the 5 visit pass suited. Based on the previous reviews I had some concerns, however the location made it ideal.
I have to say I found it to be really good. All the staff I engaged with were really polite and helpful and that was Sunday afternoon and early morning during the week.
I used the pool and the gym (but no jacuzzi etc and I can't say I used everthing in the gym).
However I thought it was well laid out, I had access to all the equipment I needed and I did not find any issues with cleanliness with the gym or the pool which was my concern from some previous reviews.
Lockers were available using a card provided at reception (so no messing around with change). Towels were also provided at no cost and the showers always had showergel.
Overall a great gym that I would recommend and use again if back in the area.

Have been part of this gym since it started. It use to be a great and very friendly gym. The equipments were in top notch condition.
Sadly now the weight machines are barely working. I have completely stopped going to the pool. Either its busy or having children classes or one lane is reserved.
Most of the friendly staff left and now for small things, I am shown the huge books of policies and why things can't be done.
My recommendation will be to invest on equipments (the weight machine in the middle of the big floor, boxing gloves, ropes). Have more open times for pools and train the new staff better with authority to be able to do small changes here and there without going through the bible. Replace the outer body of those plastic cheap watt bikes with the originals steel body watt bikes. Get more weight machines (specially for chest).
Ask your previous staff Silvestor for tips on how to build relationships with the customers. I introduced 5 people just cause how he handled things.
Can't wait for my contract to be over (was stupid enough to renew it) and move on.
Do me a favour and don't reply with a standard template based answer like "thank you for...". If you really are going to do something about above things, reply with the concrete actions and I will keep an open mind to change my stance.

Great facilities to use fun and relaxing environment if you don’t mind the price

reasonibly relaxed gym
I've been going here on and off for years. It's changed a little bit over this time, more people and some cosmetic changes, but nothing to drastic.
I think it's a good size considering you're in central wimbledon and the key thing is the triple volumed ceilings, that gives it a much bigger feel. the men's room is cavernous and very average, it has open showers, why on earth would a gym in 2017 have open showers? a bit of a weak point to the gym. the swimming pool is ok. steam and sauna areas are pretty average. the ladies room is far superior to the mens room, so there's something not fair about this. it also has a creche and studios and stuff so these are big positives.
the cardio area is pretty good and when busy actually doesn't feel that busy, so it's been well designed. the weights area is good and there's quite a bit of variation. so over-all this is a good gym, for roughly 80 a mounth is beats the virgin active and the leisure centre hands-down.
it's a good option for the area; that's my recommendation.

Good Location and size. Lots of equipment.
Maintenance is poor however, men's locker room always very untidy, toilets unclean, showers stink. Should be 100x better considering the very high monthly membership cost.

Smells like something died in the gents showers, Toilet is tiny, loads of studio space that is used only half the time, but it has a pool, and the gym facilities that are there are good. Peak time isn’t that bad either.. not worth the cash, but still the best of a bad bunch in wimbledon and the staff are super friendly!

Dear management, if you expect members to follow gym rules and etiquette, please lead by example!

Pool is super dirty. Even though I told them to take care of it several times, they told me it is normal since I am coming late afternoons. This is not the first pool I have been in late afternoons but the dirtiest one.
Although the staff is so nice and I like the place in general I would have to end my membership just because of that :/

Well-placed at the heart of Wimbledon, just above Morrison's, right next to the Odeon cinema and a short walk from Wimbledon Rail Station and several bus-stops, Nuffield's competes with Virgin Active to abuse our wallets while we try/fail to stay in shape. Considerably cheaper than the Wimbledon Virgin Active - and with similar amenities, Nuffield's wins out for me. If you're looking for a larger pool, adults-only or several different locations, Virgin may prove the bigger draw. I can't comment on the Spa features of the gym or its classes - I'm there more for the cross-trainer, weights and pool combo - but they seem in the same league as most other gyms.

Went here with a day pass. The pool was quiet and plenty of space. The gym was also good although the actual place isn't very big, so wouldn't be worth the full price.
J. G.
Personnel kind and helpful. Full of different exercise machines. Classes are great. I would only encourage people to use mandatory swimming pool cap.

Great staff ! Trainers are good Especially Gordon he did a training session with proper planning and patience ..loved the overall feel @ Nutfield Wimbledon Definitely recommended.
J. M. L.
Good modern facilities. Spacious with separate swimming pool and sauna. Reception staff could be more friendly.
M. R.
Gym equipment is very good but the the water in the swimming pool could be cleaner.
C. R.
Friendly staff, great gym with tonnes of cardio equipment. Great location too.

Open free weights area with plenty of equipment to use. Large stretching area. Conveniently located.

Generally good but clear evidence of cut corners on maintenance and upgrades.
