Reviews of PureGym London Bermondsey
Y. M.
Can get a bit busy during peak times but is a good space and has a good variety of equipment and spaces. Wipes are still available to clean equipment but social distancing of equipment has ended
M. C.
One of my local gym options, I tend to come at out off peak times so my experience is pretty slick during my sessions. Nice and clear area to work out without the hassle of waiting for weights or machines. Due to covid extra precautions have been taken and there's cleaners often cleaning the gym. Overall pleased with the gym functionality and the majority or gym buddies here.
J. A.
A very good gym for a low price. It contains all of the weights and equipment that anyone could want unless you get to a strength level where you need a specialist powerlifting gym.
R. H.
Huge space... So much space it's obscene to be honest. As a regular puregym user this is one of my favourite clubs. It didn't feel claustrophobic and you can kind of do your own thing without being in the spotlight. (or also be in the spotlight in the more compact spaces if that's your thing). Great variety of benches in particular... Flat... Incline... Decline etc.
Though I would recommend some upgraded gym maintenance a couple of the cable machines are very dodgy and need some TLC!
S. P.
Seems to be a bit cleaner in the last few months, but it could be better. For example the screens on the machines are always dirty, and people just leave equipment lying around - especially when the gym is not staffed and even more so at weekends. Mind you, some of the personal trainers don't put their equipment back, so I don't know how they expect members to do the same when they don't lead by example. Clips also seem to be missing from the cable machines on occasion, I wish they would cable tie them because it renders the machine almost useless. On the plus side, it is a pretty big gym, so if you come here out of peak times you'll usually be able to get a good workout. Lastly, if you sign up online and attend outside of working hours, the business park that the gym is located in will be locked. You need to find your 8-digit PIN and type it in to the keypad where the front gate is, none of this was mentioned upon joining online.

PG Bermondsey in my opinion is 10/10. The PTs are super friendly, non-judgemental and great to be around! The gym itself is also super diverse and friendly. I would highly recommend:)
a. m.
Very grateful to the staff (especially Sophie) who had gone out of her way to track down my missing keys! She was already quite busy with the PG directors visiting today but managed to help me out at the same time which was very considerate of her and from my experience most employees wouldn't even bother go out their way to help someone with so much going on. Thank you!
E. B.
This gym is decent and spacious but it’s a depressing space. Not many windows and all the walls are grey and black so in the winter it’s a bit miserable! Good free weights space though
V. G.
The best thing about this gym is obviously that it’s close to where I live! But, having been to many gyms in the past, I like the lack of pretentiousness here. The staff and management are all really friendly without being over the top. The equipment is good, the studio is great and my PT Is brilliant (Jack Cooper). All
Such good value for money too. I Recommend.
T. H.
Nice size gym with good selection of equipment and classes. However, people don't like to put their weights away which is annoying and it can be a hazard with weights laying around the floor.
R. H.
Decent Gym with range of equipment. My biggest issue with the gym is it gets far too busy even at non-peak hours, which means weights get scattered and its difficult to get use of the equipment you need.
Also there are never enough barbell spring clamps or bench-presses given the number of people. Shame it gets so busy as otherwise it would be a nice place to train.
I. L.
Large gym, lots of free weights and machines. If only fellow members would put them away after using…. If you’re not there before 6:30am, forget it. You’ll spend more time hunting after the right weight than training.
R. C.
A big gym and you don't have to wait too long usually for free weights at peak times. However as it's so big the weights area is a big mess. A lot of my workout is spent looking for the correct weights as they are littered all over the place. I know that's more the fault of the members but it seems to be the general attitude of the gym! Could do with more barbells too, as I often see them missing from the flat bench area and squat racks. Changing room is also quite small but is manageable hence my rating, this gym is pretty average and you'll get by, but I've been to plenty of better ones for similar prices.
P.
Really clean with sanitising stations so you can wipe down the machines before and after you use them. Well enough spaced out and air conditioned. Pretty quiet whenever I go (around 6:30pm)
Ladies changing rooms are super humid and stuffy which isn't the best but other than that it's great.
U. E.
Great gym, but extremely busy even within the usual off-peak times.

*** Post COVID-19 Gym Update ***
First time visiting the gym since March 2020 following the implementation of COVID-19 cleaning/ social distancing measures.
Overall the experience was positive – equipment has been spread out to allow as much social distancing as possible with individuals working out in their ‘designated box’. Plenty of cleaning stations dotted around the gym with members (in general) wiping down equipment (barbells, dumbbells, benches, resistance machines etc.) before and after use with disinfectant spray which was good to see. On Sunday morning (8am – 9am) it was reasonably busy so there is always a risk (this is a given if you’ve decided to go back to the gym) so the re-introduction of 24 hour opening ASAP would be welcome. Overall pleased to be back in the gym though and as usual there is plenty of equipment to chose from.
J. K.
Honestly the best gym I have ever used. It is large, has plenty of equipment, lots of classes & open 24/7. The only gripe I have is that there are far too many cardio machines and empty space and not enough barbells during peak times.
N. D.
Let's be honest, it's the cheapest option to find around the area and surprisingly the gym is kept clean and it's responsibility of the people to keep it organized.
Annoying to see so many people spending more time taking pictures and videos rather than training.
R.
Decent gym with a great range of equipment although some do need replacing as they are heavily worn. For the price and 24/7 hours you couldn't ask more given most gyms in london costs several times more than the price of this one. It does get busy at times but there are 12+ benches and quite a few squat racks so I've never had to wait for anything.
S. D.
This is a great gym, but you have to really choose the best times to come for a workout. Peak times and the huge amount of people that go at these times make it almost impossible to complete the workout you want. In some instances people que for machines and I have on many occasions just walked out in frustration. Other than that, great equipment and space. Perhaps Pure should consider reviewing just how many people they allow into their gyms!
B. P.
Great local gym, easy location for bikes and car parking outside on main road free after 6.30pm.
Large and spacious training areas.
D. C.
Excellent value for money. The machine and weight selection is very good.
It does get busy, and sometimes the weights go missing, but overall the facilities are excellent.
There is also a decent amount of classes on offer and the staff is helpful enough.
I've been late and on Sundays and because it's in a complex you need to ring a bell, which is awkward, but at least it feels safe.
R. B.
The gym gets very busy but can't fault it for the price - I try and go early in the morning and the app is great for seeing how many people are in the gym at any time. The classes I've been to weren't great so I just stick to weights and cardio most of the time now. It's reasonably well-maintained, and some decent perks like discounts and sports drink when you go.
M.
Gets super busy if you don't get in before day break and it's never truly quiet, but a good variety of equipment is available if you're patient.
N. R.
I have begun using this gym recent, roughly around 3/4weeks. Initially it had taken me a while to get used to as I have come from a relatively quiet gym. However, the overall space of the gym is largely mapped out with a variety of different machines, areas, as well as a free weights section. I have become really fond of working out within this gym, even during busy periods as there are still multiple areas to train in freely. My only downside are the lockers. Many seem to be faulty. Other then this small downside this is a gym I would personally recommend. Close to Bermondsey station and a friendly atmosphere.
M. N.
Decent enough gym, at a good price. It’s a shame it doesn’t have any claim to the parking facilities outside - which is to be fair beyond management’s control. Aside from the usual typical gym issues (grunting weightlifters dropping and not returning weights, people hogging equipment - particularly the lateral pulldown kit), this gym does tend to get very busy indeed, which is off-putting. Shower and changing facilities are kept very clean, and staff are friendly.
E. P.
I want to make a shout out to Richard Puplampu one of the trainers. Have been to several of his classes and they have all been superb. Ppl would easily pay £10 a go for those classes in the city. His classes were so well-organised. Equipment was already laid out upon arrival. They were fun and varied and you could tell a lot of thought had gone into them. They were the full length of time with no early finish. Thought overall they were amazing.
M. S.
Decent sized gym with pretty much everything you would need for any work out. Can get quite busy at peak times, but there is enough equipment that you can work around it. Definitely good value for money
f. x.
Big gym, nice price, lots of people, better to go by 12 or a little after that, or evenings after 6pm.
They miss a boxing punch bag.
C. H.
I have used the gym for a year. They have recently made good improvements and modernised it which has included bringing in new equipment and creating more 'areas' within the gym. It is a good gym overall however I've never seen equipment being cleaned - it would be good if they could provide sanitiser and paper towels so we can do it ourselves.
W. H.
A great gym. Open 24/7 which makes it really convenient. Can get busy at peak times, but there is plenty of equipment, so you rarely have to wait for anything.
Highly recommended.
E. F.
24 hours access with clean shower and facilities. You need your own padlocks for the locker and the locks on them sometimes tricky. Many classes offered. Good number of threadmills and elliptics, haven't had to queue for them. Same for the weights. It can get crowded after work hours but not too bad. There are personal trainers with various expertise. There's vending machines, including padlocks
E. C.
nice and quite large gym. good three day free pass. the showers and restrooms are confy and clean. it might get packed during weekends. good equipment though you only have one machine of each kind.
M. R.
One of the larger PureGyms so has much equipment and nicely laid out .. but is impossible to get anywhere near the free weights .. there's groups of regular customers who inevitably, day in day out, hog the area and are loud .. and who make it unwelcome for others to even enter that area .. and if u do, be prepared for them having no respect for your workout space .. my advice, try another PureGym
K. L.
Well equipped but very, very busy. Competitive prices but that's balanced by a heaving gym floor at peak hours. It is open 24/7/365 though so if you're an early bird or a night owl you'll have the place to yourself.
N. R.
Decent enough gym although lockers and showers could do with some fixing. Can get busy but always good choice of equipment. I've an excellent PT there (Jack).
D. S.
Among London branches of Pure Gym, this one has the most space and a good number of machines, large free weights area and an 'army-style' overhead bars workout area. My favourite is the bi-directional rope machine for upper body work. Good-sized changing rooms. It's inside the Bermondsey Biscuit Factory (formerly Peek Freens). Lots of parking spaces but you need a permit to park inside the gates. Within a ten minute walk from the Bermondsey Underground station (Jubilee line).
J. J.
I started using this branch as Canary Wharf's free weights area is too small and claustrophobic in peak times. Bermondsey is a really good branch with there being lots of space, and it's great having 3 squat racks (there's room for a 4th or another bench press). One of the best things is seeing how many female members use the free weights area, something seldom seen when I trained at Canary Wharf.
I've not had much interaction with staff, but they all appear to be nice and dedicated to their craft exercising when not working. My reason for giving 4/5 is due to the state the free weights area can be found, with plates all over the place. It's a shame some members don't have respect for the gym as others, which can sometimes cause delays when training when having to unload or find plates. As much as staff want to be on the good side of members, I feel they need to be more strict and ask people to return stuff where it belongs or discipline members.
Apart from that the gym is all good and I rate it higher than Canary Wharf!
P. F.
Alright for the price. Some members are a bit too loud (should probably include myself).
E. S.
Really good gym. There's a few really good instructors/PTs. Personally recommend Jack Cooper. All the machines you need, plenty of classes and loads of floor space. Only criticism is how many people there are, but I always find a spot and my fellow gymers know what they're doing and aren't annoying/talking on their phones like in other gyms.
I. A.
Big size Gym
There is quite a good variety of equipment and spaces , normally clean
M. C.
Good equipment. However, for the number of people, the gym needs a bigger selection of free weights, benches, squat racks, leg machines and back machines. There seems an overload of cardio equipment relative to the amount of usage.
C. W.
Been training here for the last 5 years and been thoroughly enjoyable. Because I workout in the morning, it's 25 mins away from my workplace. Spend 90 mins most days to ensure I get a full workout.
B. J.
24/7 access is great, but PureGym need to rethink the ratio of cardio machines to basic lifting equipment - over half the space is just treadmills and cross trainers, but there is only one half decent bench, which is always occupied
V. F.
Love this gym, absolutely brilliant. Although the facility is clean, the equipment could deal with a whole lot more cleaning, especially rowers( Inside too) and other cardio and dumbell handles.
P. B.
Not enough barbel clamps, no 3,4,5 kg weights, all benches shining because of sweat, half of the members don't use a towel and no one checks it. A lot if machines and clean toilets.
A. W.
The price is good, but the gym is quite small and it gets super full with limited machines to go around, it is good if you go outside of peak times but I ind that a bit annoying
K. C.
Great first visit to the gym and a fab legs bums and tums class.
B. A.
Well equipped, very good prices hence the peak hours at the gym. Still I find it spacious and not too crowded, very nicely set, the atmosphere is very nonchalant. The classes are very nice and intense!! Would recommend
A. O. d. G.
Gym is decent enough, spacious and enough equipment.
Rule following/enforcement regarding masks is not the best.
T. L.
Gym equipment is good, decent space but lockers are shower facilities are a below average.
F. E.
Nice, big space with lots of benches. The gym could do with at least one more bench press machine as just one is not enough for such a big gym with many people. Apart from that, it's very nice.
T. G.
Very good if you need simple, no frills gym. Men's changing rooms always smell. Can get busy with alpha males hogging equipment.
P. B.
Good 24/7 gym. Well equipped and clean, but changing rooms get locked after midnight so don't forget to move your stuff out to the front lockers.
B. Z.
The facilities are good but it always busy no matter what time do you go.
A. D.
I went on Sunday evening and it was almost empty so I could use all the machines. Some of the lockers were broken. Otherwise everything was fine.
D. C.
Very large pure gym compared to the canary wharf location. Walking distance from Bermondsey tube station. Only went twice since I saw a gentleman use the equipment after not washing his hands after using the loo. Ew
K. L.
Good place if you know what to do on your own. There aren't many trainers available. Also the people is using the equipment and don't return it in its place. In rush hour is really full of people and you are not able to exercise.
A. F.
It's what you get for the price you pay, honestly. This location gets very crowded at peak times and even slightly off peak. Bathrooms smell a little nauseating, but aside from the waiting, all in all, it's not bad if you're not picky.
C.
Good, although very busy and messy
S. H.
Great gym. Hidden away in a great location. Good cv and resistance machines and large free weights. The cross fit cube is the best thing about it
S. L.
Very big gym with most of the equipment. Doesn't have an incline bench though! And can get very busy in the evenings. Parking an issue too.
A. A.
Always a nice place to get down till late, keep fit and see friends.
C.
Wow, the racism in these reviews is mad, just because most of the PT’s are black they look like thugs fresh from prison? Wow 😅
The gym is alright, it gets too busy, but besides that it has everything you could possibly need
A. R.
So was me 1st time and found it brilliant well distanced clean and pleasant i found defo will be attending there as much as I can a big thumbs up.
R. O.
Incredibly busy at peak times, but has a good set of equipment and generally clean and well kept changing rooms for great value by London's standards
E. P.
Clean, friendly and the app is great as it tells you how busy it is.
E. H.
A good, reasonably priced non fancy gym. Has all the equipment you need and shower facilities look very clean.
M. M. (.
Lots of equipment, never a struggle to find a treadmill or a bike. Staff seem to be mostly self employed personal trainers and as such can be a bit pushy to get you to sign up with them for other activities.
M. N.
Overall good gym with a lot of space. I train off-peak times so not crowded. May I suggest more equipment like paralettes? Thanks
E. D.
massive working space but very cheap and unsafe changing room lockers. Someone robbed my locker. Do not bring any valuable item with you.
A. G.
24/7 gym. Nice staff. Good equipment. Good variety of lessons. Price is fine for London.
M. T.
Well equipped gym, few minutes might need some minor maintenance but overall working well. Busy around 11am and 8pm
P. C. C.
Mostly overcrowded. Need to go at anti social hours to get on the equipment. Also has a general smell of sweat and body odour when you walk in.
E. D.
Well laid out gym with good equipment and space. Generally a good atmosphere and not too crowded.
m.
Ended up cancelling my subscription in 3 days. So many people , so little space for functional exercises.
Very gloomy and claustrophobic space
M. T.
Great gym, not too busy and anything you need to exercise. Fantastic value for money
M. M.
Equipment, lockers and the sound system need updating.
Open 24 hours aday. Fairly clean and safe
M.
i go early in the morning (4-6am) and i enjoy it but when you go at 9pm it gets very busy and too man people not working out but talking.
P. P.
Huge gym with almost everything you'll need. A swimming pool would have made it to a 5 star from me.
J. Q.
Clean, new, plenty of equipments and not really crowded. And best of all, it is very good value! Definitely recommended if you live or work in the area
C. B.
Big spacious gym with all the machines you expect. Good value for money.

Gym is very well equipped but unfortunately is always busy
E. C. L. K.
Fantastic, great choice of equipment, very friendly helpful staff.
Only downfall is how busy it gets between. 17:00-21:00
T. H.
Good local gym, reasonable price
T. W.
A large Pure Gym may lack the character of other pure gyms but it has a 30min free parking in the compound and it is around the Bermondsey station

Ok.

F. M.
Great gym for a workout, been going there for 2 years.

(Translated) But the problem is that you have to have a bank account to register, it is the only problem that I put, it has free Wi-Fi gym, but it does not have good coverage, very low level and speed, load the music in your home, if you download an instructional video do it from home
