Reviews of PureGym London Finchley

Daria, one of the best trainers at PureGym!
We attend group classes and the way she coaches is wonderful.
Honestly I attended few other group sessions, but the way she teaches is amazing.
Overall the gym gets fairly crowded at peak times, but that's alright.

It's a good budget gym but a few things have been incredibly frustrating. A week ago, the Sunday Pump class at 9.15 which I booked a space on was completely full at 9.10 when I came to the Studio. PureGym allows 30 people to book this class I think, but there was zero space left in the Studio when I came and there were only about 15-20 people there - everyone had a mat, a barbell and a stepping platform so anyone who has seen the Studio will immediately be able to imagine just how unrealistic it is to fit 30 people in - and these classes are very popular timing-wise so get fully booked. So I had to just leave the class and worked out by myself but it was really disappointing. I will come a lot earlier next time but that means there will probably be other people who cannot find space. Also, the app shows me error messages very often and once I had to use my PIN to enter the gym as I could not even access the entry QR code. Otherwise the gym is pretty clean and the staff have been nice, although I agree with previous reviews that other clients' weights etiquette could be better!

Absolutely love this gym club!!! Facilities are clean and tidy. Smells good in the morning as always as such and has good ambience. All the morning classes are fun and energetic.
Staff are friendly, from the managers through PTs and facility house keepers.
Plenty of machines and equipments. It's just kinda annoying sometimes when some members leave equipments scattered. Still a great gym all around!

The gym is big and spacious but they've not utilised the available space well. The machines are less, need to wait for almost every machine irrespective of you go at peak or non-peak hours.
Cardio section is unnecessarily too much as per me (but everyone has different choices)

Very good gym, plenty of parking.
Good equipment when it comes to free weights and cardio equipment but there is a lack of weight machines on Level one.

It's PureGym. You know what you're getting. No point in complaining that as LA Fitness it used to have a swimming pool. It's not LA Fitness anymore. And as a PureGym it's far above above average, much better than the one in North Finchley. Easily 5 stars.
D. S.
Great equipment and facilities, however the weights are always left in the wrong places and the staff don't do anything about it. Still a good gym for the price, although avoid peak hours when possible.

decent gym, smaller and cramped than North Finchley for lifting but a lot of good cardio equipment. Too many people need lat pulldown and cable machines but there is only 1 lat pulldown and 2 x 2 adjustable cables resulting in queues. Imo another set of cables and a lat pulldown would fix this problem.

UPDATE: they management got back to me via email, today the whole gym was cleaner and the ventilation is much better. More windows open. It was much better. Thank you!
First review: Okay so recently got back. I have visited gyms in different countries and alway preferred the small, oldskool ones, but this one is the nearest to me. I like to go when it is not crowded as many people are still staring at a disabled person like we are from a different planet. That’s not the staff’s fault or anything just thought I mention it. Might some people changing their behaviors.
The gym is incredibly dirty and some machines are broken. That dust is collecting since last year. Pec deck machine’s seat adjustment button is half broken and stuck. I am sure you can do better!

Impressed by the seamless service joining this gym and at follow up. Classes attended have been fabulous. Attended the early morning ones and all were of a high standard eg spin class which included great instructions so I really knew what I was doing and didn't just exercise my legs. Thanks

Is a very good gym to come and work out. Have many PT available to all people and all necessities.
Just come and have a look your self

Decent gym, has everything you need. Love the massage chairs & free vitamin water. Most staff are friendly and helpful. The members cause it to lose a star. They tend to leave equipment scattered about and majority don't clean it down after using. Make sure to wipe anything down you need to sit on, as a lot stinks of body odour. There should be some rule about phone use on the floor too as well as enforcing members keep their stinky trainers on their feet.

Decent enough gym but just a pity they doesn't utilise the vast amount of space.
Great car parking facilities and access by bus is available (143). As per usual this "flagship" location comes with more than enough cardio machines and floor space for classes which are plentiful. Weight room is OK but not good enough during busy periods. There used to be a swimming pool at this location but alas...
I think more can be done here to justify paying the premium over other better equipped and bigger Pure Gym locations.

It's not the greatest gym I've ever used, but definitely not the worst!
Upstairs: There is an amazing number of well kept cardio machines, bikes, steppers, running machines(this is one of the reasons I rejoined this gym), but the upstairs cable machines have seen better days and in need of some TLC...some are rusty, the plates stick together (and drop mid rep with a crash) due to a lack of oil and some have broken drink holders with sharp jagged plastic sticking out of them....not good, but they are functional and get the job done.
Downstairs: There are a good selection of dumbbells (but good luck trying to find a matching pair as they are never put away correctly or sometimes not at all and can be found scattered on the floor....but that is mainly down to the lazy members rather than staffing) and a good selection of benches and machines (although some extra plates wouldn be nice...as would more care over refilling the cleaning stations).
The staff: they are 50/50, some say "Hi" others just give you dirty looks, but I guess they are more engaged with the members who hire them privately.
Overall it's good and you get more than you'd expect for the price.

Its a nice gym in the area.Car park on site is a plus.Don't know why there were some parking spaces saying "No Parking 10pm-6am".Its a 24 hour gym with entry controlled by QR code or Gym Membership code.Nice shower facilities.Get your padlock and toiletries.
There is a Hydra Massage room with 2 chairs. Each session allows to operate the chair for 10mins.

A well equipped gym with very helpful staff. Good changing facilities and very good cleaning standards. They have many classes but I have tried mainly cycling classes which I would strongly recommend especially Firooz and Junior’s cycling classes are excellent
M. L.
It’s good !!. Nice variety of classes & people ,not intimidating as lots of gyms can be ,people tend to keep themselves to themselves .lots of weight sections which I don’t use but always seems to be enough to go around .. does what it says on the tin ,a simple no thrills gym
S. A.
Great facilities with every machine you could want. Can be very busy at peak times

Amazing gym. Spacious and equipment up to standards. Good covid cleaning practice. There are minor faults on some machines (eg buttons not working on treadmill). Staff are very helpful and approachable. Gym can get very busy. The free weights area can be intimidating when it is busy too. I advise for first time users or those who feel uncomfortable in the gym to go with classes or personal trainer to become more comfortable.
I have had a few sessions with Jorge who is amazing. Teaches you proper form and exercises that I would not have done. Very approachable and helps push your limits no doubt. I'm sure the others are great too.
F. K.
Relatively small, though the staff look very knowledgable and experienced. Having the car park available at all times is a plus.
C. G.
Great gym, friendly staff, loads of equipment.
Only thing to add is that I think there should be more mirrors in front of each squat rack/Smith machines - personally feel more secure being able to see my knee positions in a mirror when squatting.
Other than that fantastic gym
M. d. C.
Excellent and clean and well organised gym, plenty of parking space as well!
D. S.
It's a good gym with a lot of equipment. With Covid-19 they have instituted a policy of wiping down the equipment you use before and after use, which I have seen staff not do. When it is crowded it can feel difficult to find the equipment you need, otherwise a great gym.
n. 2.
Not the biggest gym, tends to
Get very busy and almost unusable around peak gym hours.
m. f.
Not a bad gym I only stayed in the free weights room so not sure how upstairs is but my only issue in free weights room was the dumbells being all over the place, this happens in majority of the puregyms like why can't people place their weights back! Its not hard and so frustrating for people wanting to use them after.
Also don't like this old shower system where have to keep pressing the button every so often
T. L.
My long term gym.
They can improve on setting up wifi boosters on all floors. The wifi is not great. Also they dont appear to control numbers going into the gym as peak hour is extremely crowded and feels a bit like a health hazard especially in the main weights room. Which gets really hot, sweaty and with too many people crammed into the room. Also I can still see people spotting and noone says or does anything
A. S.
Great gym. Helpful staff and plenty of machines so enough to go around even when it’s super busy.

Great Gym and Staff, Very clean and not too busy.
Very well priced too!

Nice Gym, very clean
R. K.
Great gym, staff, equipment. Really happy with it
M.
Clean and nice environment to train. Only problem is it's popular so even off peak you can find having to wait to use equipment
M.
Good gym, nice size. Lots of weights left around in the evening but all good asides from that.

Loving the Hydro massage machine. Very friendly staff.. 👌

Great price, but gym accepts members beyond capacity. The gym is clean, it offers some great classes and monthly membership is very affordable. However, since the gym has too many members, you will find most and frequently all machines occupied after work hours. There are members who literally camp at a machine to chat on their smartphone or occupy more than one machine. Classes tended to be fully booked several days in advance, and the management decided to impose a no-show policy (understandable but with questionable outcome). Now members do not books classes but simple "join in". Join if you are a student or if your employment allows you flexible work hours.

A pretty average gym with excellent staff.
The gym itself is pretty basic in regards to the equipment and machines available especially compared to other PureGyms I've been a member of previously. It also feels like quite a lot of floor space is been wasted at present. It DEFINITELY needs a few more squat racks and deadlift stations. Maybe a few assault bikes too. Another downside is that the majority of classes on offer during the week seem to be tailored towards people with maybe less conventional work schedules or stay at home parents.
One massive plus is the staff, who are always friendly, welcoming, professional and polite. The classes are always well organised and presented fantastically

Amazing gym! I just rejoined PG, but in Lambeth. Going there for the first time tonight made me realise just how amazing PG is in general, but it reminded me of when I first started going in Finchley a couple of years ago. I have really good memories of it, damn do I miss it! The atmosphere, excellent equipment, and space in NF allowed me to really build my body up for the first time properly! I just loved it, it is a really good gym, highly recommend it to others.

Excellent facilities, great number of treadmills and cycles. Shower room facilities are good. Never had a single issue, friendly staff. Highly recommend if you are new to the gym scene or if you need somewhere you would just want to get in and get fit.

As a relative newbie here it’s all rather good so far.
There’s plenty of cardio equipment here, not once have I seen everything in use at peak times. The free weights area is well stocked and there is a good range of ‘muscle machines’.
Sadly the latter tend to be constantly busy and your going to be in for a wait for some machines especially at peak times. A few more of these would ease the congestion.
The classes seem well attended and the place has a good vibe.
Friendly staff, vending machines to buy the bits you forgot and a good bit of on site parking all make this a great spot for a work out.

A solid gym. My favourite in the PureGym group so far. Facilities that are actually avive ground with windows. Good layout with each section set out as it should be. When doing cardio I've found myself having to go and find a cross trainer or a rower. All in one room here.
My only suggestion is that staff could be more approachable while on the gym floor. For those shy gym goers who want a little piece of advice or need the courage to book a training session, it wont hurt to have a little chat. Perhaps a little free advice on form etc. Goes a long way and will bring in more repeat business.

I preferred it when it was LA Fitness. The problem with 24 hour gyms is the fact you do not get the swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam rooms. It is not deemed as safe so when they converted the building for Pure, they got rid of all these luxuries. The steam room is what I miss. It was relaxing after a work out. Admittedly not that hygienic.
Pure is nothing special but the 24 hours/7 days a week works. I skip with a rope and just wished there were more places to get space. Depends what you want for a gym.
Women don't go late for safety reasons so the 24/6 days opening hours works mainly for us men.
Don't expect trainers to be around all hours either. Not to mention a health and safety individual if you drop the weights on your head or do something serious. When I asked about this they told me the cleaners are the first aiders.
Also, if you visit, the changing rooms upstairs close I think at about 9pm after which they lock the door. Make sure you do not lock anything like your car keys otherwise you are screwed.
They have parking which helps. Some of the spaces are allocated for the gold club as well so be aware.
The people ruin it for me and not the gym. Too many people texting and sitting on machines but I guess this is more common these days because of the addiction to mobiles.
Important point is bring your own key for lockers. Make sure the lock is not massive either and fits. They have small lockers in main area and more lockers upstairs but be weary of my point on closing times for bathrooms.
Good selection of machines, a bonus. Good selection of weights. You can also attend classes which I’ve never done but I know people attend classes and book online.
My advice when joining is wait for special deal and avoid the admin fee which is just a silly money making idea companies use anyway. Alternatively speak to them. The best thing about Pure is there’s no contract. The gym is also open 24/7 which is great if you have a busy life. There are also cameras for your safety. Entrance is by code that Pure send you when you register. Just make sure you have it to exit.
