On Thursday the 7th May 2020, the world lost a great man.
’TY’ was an artist, an activist but more importantly to many, he was a friend and loved one.
Sunday the 17th May saw artist Carleen DeSozer (@CarleenDeSozer) immortalise one of Brixton’s favourite sons in a wonderful tribute which will serve as a memorial for the ages.
It’s located at the Brixton Street Gym on Somerleyton Road, Brixton, SW9 8ND.
Go take a look and spend a little time.
Tell us if and how you met TY, share your experiences and stories or just leave a comment.
If there is one thing he was known for aside from his artistry, it was for his innate ability to ‘Gather the Village’.
We win, together.

Missing TY's brand of funny, high energy and good vibes! He may not be with us in this physical space but better believe his spirit lives on. I first met TY was on a warm, sunny day in 1998. He was with Shortee Blitz, shooting the video for I Am A Don (I.A.A.D). We were in Maida Vale stopping traffic on Elgin Avenue. It was on of those 'summer, summer, summer time' in London moment's. Ever since that day until now, it's always been much love and mutual respect.
His passing leaves a huge hole that cannot be filled. Knowing that I wont bump into the real Mayor of Brixton is unthinkable. But his music is a special gift that will stand the test of time and Carleen Desozer's Memorial Mural is testament to his legacy .

The most beautiful tribute to a brother who embodied the true meaning of a unique artist and witty wordsmith. We lost a great one, brother, friend, compadre.
It's only right that his memory is ImmorTYlized in Brixton, one of the greatest babies to come out of Brixton and leave an indelible mark on the world. R.I.P. King TY the BRIXTON BABY. Gone but most definitely not forgotten.

Amazing! This picture is from Carleen De Sozer’s Instagram page, the artist who created this piece.
Ty was the ambassador for UK hip-hop who inspired generations and connected scenes. He will be missed dearly.
