Reviews of Seven Islands Leisure Centre
B. A.
My experience in Seven Islands Leisure Centre is superb. The Gym is neat and there are excellent facilities there to use. The time spent there is very useful and good.
N. v. K.
Great pool for length swimming. Good booking system, so the pool is not overcrowded. You need £1 for the changing room lockers, but it doesn't get swallowed every time you open the door so you can use the same coin. My only gripe is: If you are a slow/medium swimmer please do not use the fast lane (the centre should really control this - It's frustrating having to wait or overtake)
C. M.
A nice place to practice your gym routine, you have a spinning class-room and even a dance floor downstairs. The swimming pool is dope.
S. G.
Clean, helpful staff, free sessions for residents of Southwark.
Had an assessment for using the gym, readying for a new me
s. w.
Great place has a good gym
M. W.
It is a nice pool and it is good for someone who just wants to swim lengths without having any disruptions.

I went swimming a couple of times since the reopening, and I'm impressed with the procedures for safe social distancing. Very good system in the water and around the pool. The staff is friendly and happy to explain the way things work.
D. C.
I've been on very few occasions, but it's an average gym. The equipment is old, but it does what it's supposed to. There is a sauna, so that's a plus.
The pool is nice and spacious, but I have to agree with most reviews that the wet changing rooms are too small and smelly. The gym changing rooms, are equally small, but not as smelly and there seems to be locker space available, unlike the wet side.
S. P.
Seven island s leisure centre is a very good place for everyone to come

The hairdryers don't really work and the dressig facility could be cleaner.

I go here with my son a lot lately. Swimming pool is nice, I like how there are handle bits to hold onto while in the pool. Also recently the heating in the changing rooms is nice and warm instead of freezing cold and I got a pleasant surprise one time to feel that the water was warm in the pool too..
Negative points are that only one or 2 showers work in the females changing room and I hate how the shallow end of the pool is almost always out of bounds because of swim school. I am nervous of water and am forced to go to the slighter deeper part of the pool as a result and I cannot even get swimming lessons as the timings are awful. They don't do swim school during school hours, I'd like to have lessons while my son is at school but this appears not to be an option, so a non swimmer I must remain for now.
Staff at the front desk are lovely and polite. And I like how the swim school staff are in the pool with the learners instead of just standing on the sides like years ago.
C. B.
Only go there to swim. -1 star due to very smelly and dirty changing rooms. Almost would have removed another one star as it is very difficult to find available lockers but I usually get one of the last ones available. Hot water is provided and the swimming pool is nicely warmed up. Not the cleanest either, but not awfully dirty neither -they compensate with loads of chlorine -after 45 minutes of swim you can feel it in your body. Can't remove a star for that as you pay what you get -Free for Southwark residents (£4.75 otherwise in Nov 2018)

Great to have a 33m pool in Southwark, especially for those who like lane swimming.
I usually swim at Camberwell (25m) but I have just been to Seven Island Leisure Centre as it’s bigger and has just re-opened.
There is a huge bay window on one side which makes the pool quite bright and airy.
I’m not sure what it was like before so can’t compare but there are a few issues which I will list below. Hopefully, those that can be fixed will be looked into.
- The pool has been reopened for 2 months and still no timetable on the website
- Only 3 showers on the men’s side! For a pool this big, this is not enough. People queue waiting for their turn. (also no shower pool side for a quick rinse before swimming)
- No possibility to adjust shower temperature. Basically you have to have a scalding hot shower in the heat of summer
- Water evacuation is poor so you shower in a big puddle of stagnant water
- There was quite a lot of dirt at the bottom of the pool. It’s not a huge problem but they should try and vacuum it
- Lane etiquette should be enforced. It’s frustrating to have a slow swimmer in the fast lane
- Not enough bicycle parking outside. All stands are often full. There is room for more
T. P.
Staff at reception don't like to answer the phone. Not particularly clean, or modern (although it is supposed to have been refurbished not too long ago, alas tiles and paint is already falling off walls); but you get what you pay for (it's a ~fiver, walk-in, to use the pool), although it is a subsidised business model... so not really sure.

well, I have been twice with my baby, I find it average, I thing the renovations are OK, but they could have done more with the pool than changing a few tiles!!! also the door system is a pain with a pram, the changing room really need more regular cleaning...last time I went there was hair everywhere...no bins... staff are polite but could be a little more upbeat and for the love of god bring the temperature of the pool higher....its freezing most of the time!!!
M. H.
Yes very good experience cooperative staff big pool bit crowded private changing rooms good hygiene
A. A.
The pool is 33m, which is disquieting for counting your distance. Apart from this, it's a nice place, and even when the swimming club is training in three lanes out of six, it's not very crowded. The lockers in the change rooms work with a normal pound coin. There are enough showers, regularly cleaned. However, what are those small flying creepy crawlers that live in the showers? Very weird.
J. B.
Seven island leisure centre has a swimming pool and gym it has been renovated and actually is quite nice the pool depth reaches 3.8m at its deepest the gym also is amazing. It is part of everyone active I would recommend checking it out when lockdown eases
K. H.
I only ever use the pool but the water seems clean enough. The bottom of the pool does have some sandyness in the corners. They dont seem to enforce lane speeds unless someone is a dead crawl in the fast lane. The water is almost too warm for my liking. The locker room is clean although the water doesnt seem to drain all that well. Pooled water here and there. Floor can get dirty after big swim sessions because the amount of feet and water but if you go during off times its clean. Overall its a perfectly fine pool.
J. R.
I use SI exclusively for the pool, so can't comment on the fitness facilities. The pool itself is great - big and clean, good temperature, lots of sessions and not as crowded as some council-run pools. Poolside staff are laid back and friendly and not too quick to yell at people, which I appreciate. Also very cheap at about a fiver.
The female changing room is, as others have noted, pretty suboptimal. The water pressure is so poor that I've stopped showering there afterwards, but wait til I get home - it barely has enough force to rinse shampoo out of hair. The toilets frequently back up and usually smell a bit like a combination of sewage and mildew. Overall there is a sense that it's not as clean as it could be, although it's not frankly dirty like some people have written about in the past. A bit of bleach wouldn't go amiss.
About staff friendliness, I also think it's not as bad now as people were saying before. They seem ok to me - some friendly, some neutral but never rude.
S. H.
As a gym it is okay. Probably will have everything you need for a work out but I would say that it could improve the overall look as the building is old. Under renovation though so we'll just wait and see. Swimming pool not ready yet, not sure when it will be but as for now. It is an alright place to work out and leave.
M. C.
Olympic size pool. These are rare so I'm grateful for this pool and it's all I need. Water is warm. Lane swims, general swims, swimming lessons. Reasonable entrance fee. Excellent value for money. The staff are fine. No cafe. Near Surrey Quays and Canada Water stations. We're very lucky to have this public facility. If you want slides and wave machines you have to go elsewhere but I'm fine with that. Thank you, Southwark.
J. K.
I visited the pool once not having very high expectations after reading the reviews.
It's actually not that bad. The male changing rooms were so so, mainly because there was water everywhere on the ground that did not seem to evaporate probably due to not very effective air conditioning. However it wasn't particularly dirty, just wet, so it's not like I felt disgusted a lot. Showers were okay too, although the stream of water wasn't super strong I have to admit.
The pool itself seemed pretty clean (not sure about poolside as i wasn't hanging around there). The water was optically clean, no unpleasant surprises floating around you. Size was it's ok although probably not the place to go to if you are up to some super serious swimming unless they have a lane swim on, although there were very few people, so I was swimming outside the single lane that there was at the time without any obstructions.
All in all I would recommend you give this one a shot.
D. B.
Great council run pool which has recently been refurbished. Pool is warm enough for babies over around 6 - 9 months and quiet enough to go during non specific baby times.
Pool is 33m which is pretty nice.
E. P.
It is all you might be expecting from a leisure centre that is free for residents. Neighbourhood is not too great and this centre is not too great as well. Pool looks clean, but changing rooms are not. Gym is okay, but could get way too busy. Staff do not care about you what so ever. It’s okay to just go there do your thing and leave.

I see a lot of reviews complaining about the quality for the price, however in my opinion I don't think these people are being realistic for London. The phrase 'champagne tastes on a beer budget' comes to mind. For the money I think it is good value. Yes, the place and equipment are older, however in general they are clean and reasonably well maintained. Although idiots keep trying to rip the showers off the walls in the men's change rooms, but that reflects badly on the quality of the people that attend, and not the management. If people want new, higher class facilities you need to pay for it. For example, the closest I know of is Virgin at Canary Wharf, where their 'club only' membership costs £105/mth, or a fully flex membership will cost £195/mth. I am paying about £45/mth or thereabouts, for which I can use any other Fusion Gym, including the one on Greenland Dock, which is relatively new by comparison. If you don't need a pool then there are other single gym options in the area at a lower price, but for the value for money and the convenience I am happy with Fusion/Seven Islands. Finally, someone complained about how it was "ridiculous" to pay for the lockers ... it is 20p ... lets get realistic.
V. B.
Good pool with a stripy ceiling that helps keeping your lane while swimming on your back. The facilities are a bit outdated but entrance is practically free for locals and staff is very friendly, so I'm happy and thankful that it still exists and hasn't been sold off for development.
c. r.
We have just been to the recently refurbished pool and it was great. It was clean, welcoming and staff were very helpful . It is a 1960s pool not a Zaha Hadid Aquatics Centre so one cannot expect state of the art design but because of that it was also quite reassuring!
F. V.
It's a good value for money leisure centre (especially yearly deals) with a great swimming pool (33m), cool regulars and friendly staff. I didn't try the gym (no watt bikes) but swimming pool is great.
I. K.
The facilities are currently under construction and some of the machines are outdated. The group class room needs to be better cleaned and more regularly. But the prices are cheap so I shouldn't complain!
W. K.
Went to try out the renovated pool last weekend. Very happy with the facilities and friendly staff. Keep up the good work!
H.
I went to teach my best friend how to swim before our holiday and after watching us struggle a very kind lifeguard called Leroy came and gave her a free swimming lesson! Such a friendly place!
P.
Well. I like this gym, because it is not that busy as the others in area. Other advantages are: swimming pool and current refurbishment. The cons are/were quite old design and price of membership.
D. B.
Nice gym with swimming pool. Swimming pool is long 33 meters and the gym has two room, one for cardio and another for weights.
J. M.
I didn't like the old gym equipment for free weight however the cardio machines are really nice. Showers drain were blocked
w. w.
Got what I needed people very polite and helpful 😌👌
K. Y. T.
Good game and play it is faster and more powerful than a computer games and play games and the game is a powerful fire type starter game but the games that will be very different is a powerful fire type starter game but it is very helpful to learn the English Name and evolution in English Name and English Name is a strong point.

I like the place a lot and is close to my house. Nevertheless, the evening availability in the swimming has changed... And they have given more time to clubs. So, I cannot attend after work.
V. W.
