Reviews of Nuffield Health Didsbury Fitness and Wellbeing Centre

The gym equipment is up to date and well maintained. They have a swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi. The jacuzzi was not working when I visited. The lockers in the changing room need a padlock, which you bring yourself. The cafe was lovely, and had a small play area for kids. Parking was free in the Parrs Wood centre car park.

I used to be a member of Virgin active in 2016 in the site which is now Nuffield. I loved it and thought it was worth every penny. I have began attending Nuffield as I get a discount through work which just about makes it worth it. There is varied equipment and I can usually get a space in the weights area where I need to.
The customer service in my experience is pretty flat. My welcome tour was unenthusiastic, but I signed up due to my discount. I got a free PT session which was helpful but I did feel like I pushed to get out of it what I needed and use the full allocated time. The plan she created for me has been really helpful.
Shaneen's zumba class is excellent, very fun and high energy. I also enjoyed the yoga class I attended. I find the other gym goers to be mostly pleasant and unpretentious, so I feel comfortable on the gym floor.
However I do think at the price that is being charged, the customer service needs some work. I've been a member of various gyms over the years, including one in Sydney which had incredible classes like aerial yoga, trapeze and ballet barre included as well as all the usual classes and equipment and great service. I don't think Nuffield Didsbury has anywhere near enough of an edge to have such complacent customer service.

Well I don’t even know where to start Danial has made my first ever experience in a gym great he’s made me feel very comfortable in the gym I thought I would never come to a gym alone but hes changed that.. honestly great experience here and would highly recommend it here a massive shout out to Danial

This is a great gym. Bright and open with brilliant equipment, a great choice of classes and lovely pool. Most of the staff are attentive, friendly, helpful and polite.
If you happen to run into any problems though, you'll find the centre disorganised and the staff sleeping, which makes things very inconvenient and stressful.
Would definitely give 5 stars if the issues were resolved.

A great gym my partner works here. Has got lots of facilities including a lounge, wide range of weights area, personal training instructors, swimming pool, sauna, crèche and cafe
K. D.
Excellent facilities, one of the best Nuffields I’ve been to. Keep it up guys & girls.

Well worth the investment! The centre can be a bit pricey, but the staff provide check ups and an exercise program free of charge with every membership. The gym is also fantastic, and there is always plenty of room in the 25 metre pool. Highly recommended for people of all ages and fitness levels!

Nice gym. Modern equipment and a relaxing atmosphere however the staff really ruin this place. Arrogant receptionists at the desk and are not helpful one bit. Prices also seem to be increasing every couple of months.

A good gym with friendly and motivational staff who are always on hand to help, even the personal trainers are usually found on the gym floor to offer tips for exercise on the fly. Good selection of classes, the facilities are good, but in need of updating, however the gym floor is getting a total make over starting this month, so this won't be an issue much longer. I'd recommend this gym 😁

I mainly use the pool but you have to really time it well so as not to be surrounded by kids having lessons or with family and Ive given up going at weekends. What I don’t understand is that there is a kids pool that seems to be constantly closed ! recent changes to the gym seem to have included better cleaning and overall upkeep which is good though . Waitlisting fir classes is ridiculous and I’ve given up trying . Still too expensive for what it is but it’s really convenient.

Great gym. Has quite recently had a refurbishment so offers very modern kit. The staff are friendly, the place is clean and the combination of gym, aquatic and leisure (hot tub, sauna, seam room etc) amenities are excellent. It also has a cafe where you can get food and computers for general use.

I have decided to change the review for this gym, having spoke to the GM in December I was promised changes in service and the gym this is why I didn’t join a local gym in the area and gave them a final chance.
Sarah Heaton (GM) has turned the gym around and has also stuck to her words of new staff with better service who are more helpful and polite, just how a corporate/family gym should be, along with this the gym is also facing a transformation to generate with new fitness equipment for the future.
Commendable to Sarah and her staff, well done on being a transparent gym!

The gym is well equipped, I have never seen them anywhere before. The swimming pool, sauna and steam room are good but not as exceptional as the work-out area. Jacuzzi is pretty small and basic.

Good for kids and adults. Lots of space. TVs on machines is a bonus. Lots of classes available that can be booked online. Physio service available too. Lots of mixed age groups of all shapes and sizes so not too overwhelming for newcomers. Loads of locker space. Cafe reasonably priced. Family friendly and includes a creche for members' children. I haven't really managed to find the 'perfect' health club, and i have been to many, but this ticks many boxes. On-site, hassle-free parking which is free!

Has a gym floor with a heavy weights and free weights section, lots of cardio equipment and a variety of classes. Pool is 25m which is a good enough size to do lengths. It’s not huge and there could be more classes, but would recommend as one of the best on the area.

Undergoing significant renovation on gym floor, looking forward to it being finished as is quite chaotic. Unlike some other Virgin Actives, there aren't towels readily available. You have to pay £1 and it will only be a very small one. Classes are good, but not that wide a selection compared to others.

Was visiting from the US for the week, wanted to workout while away from home. Used a free 1 day pass to at least get one day of working out in. It'd be nice if they allowed you to do a daily or weekly pass. But alas they don't. Place seemed to have a lot of variety of equipment and big studio rooms for stuff like yoga etc.

The Saturday morning spin class with Sophie is brilliant. The fast (15 mins) abs class timed to start after some of the popular classes is a great idea. Makes it easier to feel as though you've had a thorough workout! It's also handy that there's a Costa inside the gym. I can do my Sat or Sun workout and then get breakfast on the way out.

A decent gym with lots of equipment, variety of classes, wet facilities (steam room, sauna, pool, jacuzzi). Only down side for me is the restaurant closes at about 6.30 so never get the opportunity to use it.

I really like the Virgin Active gym. Which is a strange thing to say for a gym and exercise newbie. The womens only section is really good, not that the blokes are too leary. There are lots of machines available and mat space so you've always got space to train.
I've been to Salford and Printworks and Didsbury is my favourite. It's just bigger and has things like Cleanser and Moisturiser in the changing room. They're always clean too by the way and the showers are good.
I like that the steam room is in the changing room .The classes are good too - I really liked the Pilates class.
The only problem is that parking can be hard on a Wednesday night (Orange Wednesday at the cinema) and that of course Virgin is a bit more expensive than other gyms.

I go to the beauty area for bikini waxes & have to say how amazing Katie Jackson is. I go to her every time & she's just fab. I've tried sooo many other places for waxes in the past but Nuffield are by far the best.

This is such a good gym!!!! best gym ive ever been a member of

When this gym is was Virgin I gave it a scathing report; however, since taken over by Nuffield, the gym now seems more bearable and there is definitely an improvement in the swimming pool conditions, only time will tell.
In response to David Smith's offensive post, as a gym member of the same gym I am actually of a different opinion. The fact that Virgin 'only' appeared to employ white front of house staff (can count on one hand the non white front of house staff over the years) I would say you my friend are clearly do not like the change which says more about you than the front of house staff.
There is a similar post on here from about a year ago (when it was Virgin) and predominantly white Front of House Staff. No mention of ethnically distinct traits. I suggest you my friend get your entitled head out of your own arse and stop buying into the Disdbury bullshit!!! I went to school in Didsbury, and have lived around here for 20+ years. It is rife with crime (just ask Elizabeth Slinger Police Station).
And finally, I actually applaud Nuffield. How is it that the demographic of their staff is more diverse than Holmes Place and Virgin, but the location has never changed? Probably because they were adopting discriminatory recruitment practices to cater to total arseoles like you.
Reading your post I'm not sure if you're 'lost' or prejudice, but I do know you are extremely offensive. And yes, I would be classed as middle class if I believed in social class hierarchy, but I don't. So do me a favour and move to a more mono cultural part of the UK and put me and those of us who find your entitled arse out of our misery. I extend this invitation to those who liked the post also.
Finally, I am guessing the attitude you may be receiving is as a result of the attitude (reflected in this post) you are taking to the people you are expecting to help you. Just a thought!!!! Try adjusting it and see what happens.

I haven't seen so empty pool which is in the picture. The pool is not usable at the weekend because of profit oriented swimming lessons. When it belonged to Virgin pool was better.

Great gym. They have the lot. Classes, Sauna, Steam Room, Pool and in regards to the gym itself there's some good stuff to work with.
E. E. M.
Lovely clean gym with a good variety of equipment and a nice pool. Sauna, steam from and jacuzzi available. Not too busy.
M. A.
I would say it is my best ever experience that I have with club or GYM. Friendly staff and wide range of facilities available.
L. T.
Fantastic gym, plenty of kit and space. The pool could have been bigger and the pricing is a bit high.
A. M.
Well equipped gym excellent range of classes. PT sessions. Physio available staff helpful and approachable
S. N.
Genuinely preferred Virgin better - I know its the same building staff etc but its the little things that matter - and dont get me started on the increasingly % price increase !!!
K. H.
Not big. But not busy and they paused membership in Ramadan. How religiously sensitive of them. Awesome guys!!!
s. a.
Visited Rob for a physio appointment which was very useful and he was detailed , paying attention to the issue I had and recommending descriptive do,s and don'ts
