Reviews of CrossFit Spitfire
I. G.
I recently joined CrossFit Spitfire and after being apprehensive about starting I now wish I’d started sooner! The coaches are expert and knowledgeable but also welcoming, approachable and generous with their time to put you at ease so you get the most out of every session. There’s also no ego in the gym and whether you’re a beginner just starting and scaling sessions down or more advanced the other members are supportive. I’d recommend CrossFit spitfire to anyone whatever your experience, ability, age or fitness level. Thanks all!

The coaches are welcoming, kind and generous with their time, taking care to teach good technique. Their passion for the sport is infectious. People of all ages and physical fitness make up a lovely community at the box. The sessions are scaled to everyone's ability, so no need to hold off starting. It's ridiculously good value, truly fun and mentally challenging learning the skills. I can not recommend CrossFit Spitfire enough!

CrossFit Spitfire has a very positive atmosphere. The whole community is friendly and welcoming and the workouts are exactly what you need; highly varied and fun! If you're reading these reviews because you're apprehensive about joining, just book a trial session. You won't regret it!

I bloody love this sport. It’s given me routine where I didn’t have one, improved strength and mobility, new friends and a great community. It’s also hugely improved my mental resilience and general mood. If anyone is looking for a fitness routine that you will actually stick with, enjoy and quickly see improvements across all aspects of your physical and mental health, join @crossfitspitfire. 1000% the best decision I made last year.

Joining CrossFit Spitfire was undoubtedly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Not only have I become fitter, stronger, and more confident, I’ve become part of a family of amazing individuals that welcomed me with open arms. At a point when my personal circumstances took a turn for the worse, Spitfire kept me focused, mentally and physically. What an amazing place to be!

Signed up last week and loving my Crossfit experience so far. Great facilities, trainers and people and looking forward to getting stuck in

Fantastic bunch of people and coaches! Every ability and age range is cared for and helped to progress and develop at their own pace in a safe and supportive atmosphere, which is provided by members and coaches alike. Joining this place has been a life changer for me as I have found a love for movement and challenging myself that I haven't found anywhere else. I'm fitter and stronger than I've ever been.

I joined Spitfire about 2.5 years ago now, having fallen out of love with exercise and having a year or so of doing nothing. Best decision ever.
On appearance the gym is small and I was a bit worried classes would be cramped or equipment would be limited. Not the case at all. Classes are capped at a max number of people, meaning there's always enough space and resources. And there's plenty of options on the classes to sign on to, so the cap has never been an issue either. I always have space on the 5.30pm or 4.30pm.
From the start, the staff were super welcoming. I had my induction with Hannah, who was super sweet and did a great job at understanding my current level of skill/fitness and adapted the intro to suit. Hannah coaches the Barbell class on Sundays (I do wish there were more Barbell only classes) and her demonstrations, programming and her tips have improved the quality and strength of my Olympic lifting :)
All the staff are incredibly friendly and are fantastic at spotting a newbie and making sure they're not stuck out at the deep end unsure of what to do.
The great thing about Crossfit in general is that it's a complete fitness training- it works your strength, cardio, flexibility and skillset throughout the week. No workout is the same, which stops me getting bored.
Also VIP ***every workout is completely scaleable*** which is so inclusive of all abilities. And trust me when I say that people do scale the workout. And the great thing is that in our gym they can do so without judgement. There's such a mixture of ages and physical ability that you don't feel the odd one out or useless if you can't do something. You simply scale the workout (probably along with a few others) and get just as much kudos for finishing as those who've done the super heavy/complicated stuff.
I think that is what is so special about Spitfire for me. It's the culture that Dave has created (slightly mad, highly organised, passionate, enigmatic owner of the gym). There are no cliques (and I've trained at a lot of regular gyms and Crossfit gyms over the years and there's often a clique of regulars who exclude newcomers) everyone here follows the example set for them - everyone says hi to everyone else, steps in to help when you're struggling to move equipment, or grabs you a mat when they grab theirs etc...
Also, at Spitfire, for once I don't feel the need to be the best. I've always been pretty competitive and wanted the heaviest weight on my bar, or to be one of the first girls to finish etc... but here I just don't feel the need. Because that's not what is important at Spitfire. Turning up, grabbing a bar, blasting the music and simply having a go is enough to make you part of the team.
I could go on and on and mention group competitions, the super programming (that has seen quickly gained improvements in my fitness), the incredibly organised way Dave+Sheena dealt with COVID (honestly they were more prepared than the government 🤣), and the fact they leant out all their equipment so their members didn't go mad...but I would say simply turn up, do a few sessions, and you'll know what I'm talking about.
Best decision ever.

One of my favourite places to be! I love this place, it feels like a second home. The coaches are so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and a lot of thought goes into the programming. I have always enjoyed being fit but this is the first time my focus has been entirely on achieving small goals and progressing with all the movements rather than just keeping fit. It's so good for the mind as well as the body to have small goals to work towards and achieve. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming and I love the fact that there is a complete mixture of ages and fitness levels. It's great fun trying new things and pushing yourself.

Such a friendly group with exceptional equipment and box. Visiting on holiday and welcomed with open arms. Hannah the coach was awesome and really helped detail the movements. Thanks so much for having me
