Extremely helpful staff. Very grateful for the cutting service that is offered on site. It can be a bit awkward if you need items from different sections and need to collect multiple tickets to complete a purchase, but apart from that I have always found what I needed at a reasonable price.

A mixed experience, when I've picked my own wood it's been fine. From order and collect I've been given garbage before though. Oak architrave with bark on it ?! A length missing. Not a bad price,.but certainly worth shopping around as always.

Great place to get all your wood supply needs! They'll even cut it for you if need be. I went to pick up just a small amout of wood for an art project, they cut it into small pieces for me which also made it easier to transport to. Excellent quality at reasonable prices. I don't normally write reviews but was there today to buy assorted lengths of timber to make bookshelves (in a very amateur way) and they couldn't have been more helpful with advice and cutting all sorts of lengths to size. I don't know enough to say if the price was good or not but it seemed very reasonable to me! I have just moved to South Devon and never used them before but will be back - Bravo!

My mum is currently shielding due to COVID and wanted to make a purchase without entering the store. She has online access so had to do so on site. The staff were kind enough to bring the item outside and make the transaction at safe distance in the open air. She would like the staff to know that she appreciated their kindness in the way they enabled her to make her purchase safely and restore an amount of her independence. This is greatly valued. Rang Totem who advised me they would contact me as soon as the driver returned in which they did. Quick delivery and Totem phoned ahead 4 days before delivery to notify an order discrepancy and gave me options. The item in question was loam soil. The system showed 5 which l ordered however only 3 were available. I was given the option of a refund or compost (same price per bag as the soil). On delivery the 3 bags of loam soil had splits. There was no obvious loss though some was stuck to the outside of one bag. I should have been informed of that damage before delivery.

I have used this building merchants for the past 26 years and they are such a useful merchants, they sell just about everything......I've just built a house and they've all but provided everything except the roof slates !! Great for wood and bits especially that they will cut the wood and boards for you. Just wish their radio advert didn't say we have it all which they clearly don't. Over the last 2 years find they run out of basics. Also whilst they sell worktops they don't sell the tension bolts, they don't sell 18mm Melamine coated chip only 15mm, hardly any choice in pull handles etc still 95% of what I need is there and the prices are the best in Plymouth. My first choice then palladium, then wickes.

It was good but the prices of scotchbright was shocking, £1.70 each! And not a pack but each piece, I found the builders shopping there amusing, I've never heard anyone swear so much and the topic was mostly about a member of staffs haircut, so if you want your wallet lightened and your ears assaulted pop round

The yard staff where helpful and more than willing to help in a good time limit then i got to the till and it all grinded to a Holt I've never been somewhere that unwilling to take the payment and this isn't the first time any idea what takes them so long ? Would be nice to have a comment

I use Totem quite a bit. I never look forward to the experience. Materials wise 5 stars, Often items are in stock and I can check online before making a trip. Staff wise it's a mixed bag. There are a few very helpful and polite staff members but overwhelmingly in my experience most have a cant really be bothered and just want to trudge through the week to get to the weekend type attitude. Of course it's not there fault, they need a shake up from the top and some motivation to put the smile on their faces and a spring in there step. If I knew of another merchants nearby I would use them. I never go away from Totem feeling it's been a good or even ok experience.

Independent timber merchant with a wide range of timber, board and ancillary items (e.g. guttering). They also have a area selling tools and supplies, with an emphasis on tradesmen, but are not a trade outlet. Timber prices are good and they are close to Plymouth City Centre, which can obviate a long trip to an out of town outlet in heavy traffic. Tools and other items are quite expensive, though. Staff are helpful and friendly.
