Such a beautiful hotel! First time being here this weekend and I'm over impressed! the decor makes me feel all posh to be honest! it certainly deserves atleast another star for sure! the room was cheap and affordable for the price of the evening and luckily our room had a perfect view of Cardiff Castle! very impressed and certainly will be using this one again for future visits! 🥰

Beautiful hotel which has a number of local events over the years. Never disappoints with their services. Place is clean, staff are warm, food always well cuisined and presented. It is located in the centre of Cardiff, with great transport links.

Must be the most pet friendly hotel.
Warm rooms, great views, and noise isolation. Both us and our dog enjoyed our stay. Llyr at the reception was exceptional and has gone above and beyond to accommodate our requests. Excellent location, beautiful building.

Staff were very efficient and friendly. Slept like a log. Shower over bath was v good considering the age of the building. Great location. Good breakfast. Didn't get a room with a view so only 4 stars

Had a lovely nights stay here . The staff were helpful and the meals we had were very good. We also witnessed the caring staff taking in a distressed passer by , giving her a safe and warm place to stay until she could get a safe way to get home . Truely wonderful act to see ! Well done to all

The hotel is very centrally located which is great for easy access to Cardiff's attractions. There is a parking lot for about £15 for an overnight stay. The hotel has a lot of history but in great need of a bit of a reverb and modernisation. Breakfast was very poor and the produce used seemed like it was very budget.
J. H.
A bit disappointed. No alcohol free drinks unless you want to spend the entire night on coke or orange. Not even a tomato juice! The bar staff didn't know where my function room was, and were not inclined to find out, sending me on a scout around the hotel. A hotel of this calibre could do much, much better.

We had a great Christmas party here. The food was really good and enjoyable. The music and entertainment was also really good and enjoyable. Enjoyed by all. The staff were helpful and friendly. Service was really good. The hotel is really good and enterable is amazing.

This hotel is steeped in history and unfortunately the decor reflects this. We did enjoy a very tasty three course meal but the servers let the experience down somewhat by ignoring diners and chatting amongst themselves. Our server had little to no knowledge of what was on the wine list too. All staff had masks on and hand sanitizer was available everywhere. A little more training and a lick of paint would make all the difference.

We went there after singing at the Principality stadium. A great welcome .We booked some snacks they laid on sandwiches, plus trays of chips very much enjoyed. Would go back there if we sing in the there again.
B. S.
Absolutely superb, we were royally looked after by Kash and his team, especially Deep, Mark and Nico. Lulu our Labrador loved all the attention too. We are thinking of booking for next Christmas 🎄 already
C. D.
Convenient location for city centre and Stadium, however the hotel is tired and needs some love and care. The rooms were insanely hot-we all complained to reception and some were given fans for their rooms. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful and the coffee was good. Car park was hit and miss so make alternative arrangements, if possible.

We stayed here last night. We had afternoon tea payed to have meal in evening and spent well over £100 and food drinks and had breakfast in with deal. Afternoon tea was lovely. Evening meal well wished we when out as we had 3 courses and it was all disgusting me or my partner could not eat any of it. As we already paid for breakfast we was hoping that would be better but we got eggs that was not even cooked very disappointing? When I booked upgrade on room as it was my partners birthday well the room was very dated and run down. Bed was not comfortable at all. Overall beautiful hotel just needs updating 😌 and as for all the stuff was amazing could not do more for us was amazing and very lovely and helpful. Yes we would stay again. But definitely won't be eating at hotel as food is not good at all.

First impression was the day receptionist, who was very rude and mean because we asked for a 30-minute early check-in. No consideration that we had a 14-hour trip to reach there with a toddler.
We left for a meal and came back to find that they give our room with an extra bed to someone else, but the very nice evening receptionist fixed the problem and gave us another room.
Althougg the hotel is clean, but in general is old, and many thing started to decay.
Hot water took about four minutes to reach the room, which was a horrible waste of water.
Breakfast in the next morning: the staff were extra nice, but the breakfast had limited options and was being served very slowly. For example, you may need to wait for 10-15 minutes to get eggs, because they were bringing 8 at a time while there were 10 people waiting.
The biggest problem was limiting breakfast time to two-hour window, which made tge restaurant busy.

Very well located hotel with kind staff. It’s a little bit dated and you can tell. The mattress wasn’t the best and the bed was small for two people. The windows aren’t soundproofed so we spent hours listening music blasting from the pub outside. On a positive note the wifi was pretty good, I even could use cloud gaming. We paid £107 for one night and the relation quality/price didn’t quite meet the expectations. They have to invest more in renovations if they want to keep the price rate.
J. S.
Staff are lovely & friendly. Eager to help.
Room is another matter! Our room sits on a slope. We asked for another room but only a twin room was available. We've managed to see other rooms around ours & they look nice. Seems our room is the only one in this condition. Must admit it has spoiled our stay.
L. A.
Really good not the normal sandwiches but cawl and Welsh rabbit follows by scones, Welsh cakes and cheesecake with Welsh whisky. Good value for money also.
H. O.
We picked this place due to it’s acceptance of dogs as in Cardiff there aren’t that many Hotels that accept dogs and to be honest we wouldn’t normally stay at a 3 star hotel but it did exceed my expectations we were in the bell tower suite and it was quite luxurious to be allowing dogs. The angel hotel isn’t the best hotel to pick in Cardiff but it is right in the centre and acceptably luxurious so yes 5 stars from me.
G. T.
Lovely overnight stay at this classic hotel.Great package price .Great service . Little dated but adds to the experience.
L. J.
Great hotel right near the centre of Cardiff, about 5 minutes walk to all the bars and restaurants. Had to make a change to the book last minute through booking.com, when we arrived they had not seen the change meaning the room was too small but they changed it to a family room for free. Amazing facilities, friendly helpful staff, definitely stay there again.
A. A.
We went to wales for a weekend trip. The location of the hotel was amazing, taking advantage of day and night life of cardiff. `The staff are lovely & friendly. Eager to help, however the room was a total let down. For how much we paid we should have got atleast a slightly better quality living arrangement but, that was not the case. There was a damp spot on the carpet that made the room smell damp. The bed was on a slant, 'we did inform the reception but no one could do anything, the room overall was out dated, dust settling everywhere and in need of a good clean. The only thing good about it was the size. I must admit it did spoil the stay, dont think I will be usuing it in the future. I should also mention that there was no parking available to us as the small carpark they had was full, also no alternative arrangements available so spent 1 hour looking for parking and also spending extortionate amount for parking as a result.

Comfy beds Grand no frills Hotel great view of a castle from the bedroom breakfast there 4/10 however
A. F.
Went there for a lunch on match day. Very crowded and expensive but food and service were good and the male voice choir on the stairs was devine.
A. P.
Lovely hotel, very friendly staff lovely food I would recommend this place to stay
P. O.
Stayed a number of times with my partner, always enjoyed it. Perfect location opposite the castle in the heart of the city. Next to Bute Park, close to numerous bars, restaurants, shops, arcades, university, museum, etc. Also across the road from the Principality Stadium and a short walk from the Cricket ground.
Helpful staff, comfy beds, great deals on Groupon. Highly recommend the Dinner, bed and breakfast option, it's great value, 3 course meal with wine in the restaurant.
Wouldn't really recommend the 'Cwtch' option on the website as 'snack' options were VERY limited. Rooms vary in size quite a bit.
Car park on site is first come, first served £15 overnight. Can be full if you arrive late. Nearby NCP option.
E. s.
This is value for money if you can get on one of their deals.hotel decor is a little dated but it's comfortable the beds are amazing
b. c.
It's all very grand from a distance, just don't look too close, and single glazed windows onto the main street aren't conducive with a full nights sleep. Can't fault the food or staff though.
E. D.
Great location, only a couple of minutes from Cardiff Castle and the northern side of the Main Street, plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants very close. Less than 10 minute walk from the station. Room was large and clean, basic amenities and comfortable bed, nice bathroom. Clear signs and approaches ensure social distancing. Car park available. Highly recommend
C. S.
Superb food happy staff very clean rooms thanks for a brilliant stay
M. m.
Enjoyed our stay at The Angel, staff very helpful and obliging, excellent room, special mention for Will at reception, big thank you, looking forward to our next visit.
M. N.
I love the Angel Hotel....wonderful staff....lovely evening meal and breakfast!!!!! Highly recommended xx

I had friends visiting for a weekend shopping who had decided to book the angel. I was reluctant having never been there before, but I was pleasantly surprised. Both male staff on reception were very friendly and welcoming, the hotel itself is a bit dated but is still clean, and the rooms looked as though they had new panelling and paintwork done which made the rooms look great. We also had an excellent castle view which you would pay over the odds for in other cities and so for the price, I was very happy, and so were all my friends. If you are looking to visit Cardiff for shopping or a cheap weekend, this is a good place to stay as it's very central, but if you're looking for something a bit more luxury and a weekend away, I probably wouldn't recommend it, but for the most part I will be recommending the angel as a place to stay.
A. H.
Room was nice but booked for 2 nights was only told to pay a extra £20 as I booked thro a different website so I paid it and then the day after they asked me for a extra £120 for the room I explained it was only a extra £20 but they told me that was only the upgrade but i didn't ask for a upgrade
S. W. J.
Me and my Partner went for a little break, was great value for money. We enjoyed it. The man a reception when we checked in was really polite and helpful also supplied an umbrella as it was raining which was great.
S. B.
Booked through Wowcher, it was a beautiful hotel full of charm and elegance. The staff were amazing as was the food. Our room was luxurious even had ironing board and iron. Our view from our window was Cardiff Castle. We will definitely be back.

I don't know why I never wrote a review. As the public need to know.
What a great stay the bed was very comfy the room amazingly spacious and I don't remember it costing an arm and a leg.
Didn't actually spend that much time there as me and a friend were going to see
Thirty Seconds to Mars and just stayed out till day light I think 😅
But on arrival the staff were so welcoming and I believe took genuine interest with our plans for the weekend. I kind of remember coming back at silly o'clock and a true gent of a man again took interest as to where we had been till that time of morning. I roughly remember chatting away to him while he was working. Definitely getting on his nerves.
I really look forward to visiting again.
Oh oh oh also some how managed to have breakfast their was buffet style at the time don't know if it's changed but was delicious! Cooked very well
Thanks for making our visit memorable 🙂🙃

Booked a meal for the Australian game .first class meal and service and the choir singing was the icing on the cake
J. A.
Best nights sleep in a hotel ever. Yest its an old building and has some cracks but thats what happens with old buildings
J. C.
Went for afternoon tea, lovely service, very nice relaxing atmosphere. Staff and helpful and friendly
H. P.
Very lovely place to stay, we were looked after well, nothing too small to do
Thank you all 😁
One thing I would mention is that pedestrian right of way now in place. Don't use Google maps as it's out of date now.
R. B.
Lovely hotel rooms are very smart. Helpful staff and the food is lovely
M. A.
Nice hotel, good place near city centre and the castle. The Google map direction usually will lead you to a side closed street away from the hospital. Better to search for Cardiff castle if you go to the hotel
g. p.
We loved this hotel.
Fantastic location and a lovely period building. Rooms were a little dated as was the bathroom, however; it was clean and comfortable and that was enough for us given the cost of the room, it was brilliant value for money.
Bar area was nice and so was the seating area near the stair case, which is where we chose to sit as we had our son was with us. Staff were also friendly and helpful.
The staircase was beautiful and of course we had the obligatory photo on it.
Would definitely return, it was a great base for exploring Cardiff!
D. M.
Nice hotel friendly staff excellent buffet breakfast with lots of choice good beer and reasonable price for city centre
C. T.
Very good stay and ppl are lovely very nice stay
P. G.
Hotel is looking tired. Some refurbishment is needed to the rooms in general. Staff were very nice and welcoming. Breakfast was a bit dry and overcooked.
N. M.
Lovely hotel in a fantastic location.
The room was very clean, and although the bed seemed to be rather firm had a perfect nights sleep. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, we even had a anniversary card from them.
The only downside was the shower took a little time to get to a decent temperature, however
This was only a minor thing and we would definitely recommend a stay here.
N. H.
Convenient location but the bathroom could do with modernising - crack in the bath panel, toilet flush broken and shower very outdated. Also found a sock from a previous occupant near the top of the bed
F. C.
Food was nice, room was ok for our needs, but windows needed a clean. But it's tired looking and could do with a revamp.
S. W.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, room was excellent food great and staff really helpful. The menu is varied and caters for all tastes.its location is ideal for central Cardiff.
P. W.
Superbly well organised hotel centrally placed by the National stadium, which in these times, helps one feel much safer. The overnight deal I managed to secure, plus an upgrade to a suite, was excellent value.... Let down only by the somewhat sloppy service and evening meal to boot. I cannot complain as the breakfast service exemplary. We will return... again and again.
P. O.
Had a lovely stay for 1 night here. Had a fab view of the castle and winter wonderland from our room. Breakfast was served in the restaurant with social distancing and hand sanitizer always available. Safe and easy check in and checkout. Nice to have a little bit of normality in the chaos that is covid. Would definitely recommend and will be back. Well done Angel!!
S. B.
Loved it, great location, hotel a bit dated but was impressed with the size of the room 106, staff was excellent, would definitely stay there again.
k. a.
From to finish the staff, room, evening meal and breakfast was amazing
B. C.
Poor WiFi connection, adequate space in room, well located in the city centre ..however guest security in the hotel is wanted
c. n.
The rooma were not as describe on the website. The hotel is old and I wont give more than 3 stars for the hotel room.
We had to wait an hour for the breakfast, it was during the lockdown down, but still it is was very disappointed.
C.
We not only had a fantastic stay at the angel hotel, but the Events Team did an amazing job assisting me with blocking rooms and planning a breakfast for over 70 guests after our wedding. They was incredibly helpful and made the entire experience (and our wedding weekend stay) completely stress free for us and my 50 or so relatives staying at the hotel! The staff at reception were super friendly and even helped distribute welcome bags to their rooms (which were clean and spacious). The breakfast was amazing, and everything was taken care of on time and in a professional manner. Would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone planning a large event or a wedding!

We had a really really pleasant stay here, staff were welcoming and friendly, food was outstanding, and they were happy to combine meals so that (I’m fussy) my meal was perfect, nothing was too much trouble to help us. We were able to leave our luggage until our train on checkout day so we were still able to explore the area.
Our room was a perfect size and was tastefully decorated in keeping with the hotel.
Our only criticism (and this is not detrimental to the hotel and staff) was the outside noise from the main road, we were very fortunate to have a room overlooking the castle but our room only had single glazing (older style sash windows) which meant we heard everything thing that was happening on the very busy road. (I believe the hotel are possibly working through the rooms using secondary panels which will hopefully help) We purchased earplugs for our second night and this helped a lot.

My 21 year old daughter stayed for one night here on business 1 week ago and commented that it was the best hotel she had stayed in for these reasons.
Perfect location to station, really helpful and friendly staff, clean, large and very comfortable room, and the breakfast was delicious. Lots of great customer service too. In addition to this, the price was extremely good.
Well done Angel Hotel !
S. H.
Excellent location to the centre of Cardiff. Impressive entrance however rooms although a good size need refirbishment as the rooms we stayed in were tired and the bathrooms had mold on the walls. Staff were friendly and professional and breakfast was good. Just shame about the rooms
T. J.
Amazing location, and extremely friendly staff. Definitely recommend the 3 course meal. The food was beyond expectations! Greg and the rest of the bar staff were top notch. Our room is clean, with a view of the castle. Would love to see some updated decor in the restaurant, perhaps use the rich history the hotel has from the past, such as The Beatles, Bette Davis, etc staying there. We would definitely stay again, and would recommend others to as well!
M. H.
Lovely enterance you can emagine and staircase. Our room is massive ordered twin room. Good central location.
R. O.
Stayed here last night before running an event here. Event very good, with helpful and attentive staff, and excellent food. The room was quite dated, but comfortable enough. Incredibly squeaky floorboards which must have been terrible for the person below me! Great shower. Could probably do better in Cardiff accommodation tbh.
P. G.
Staff were very friendly and polite. The room was comfortable and homely. We had a meal in the restaurant and were very impressed. The waiting staff were very accommodating and attentive. Would definitely return and stay here again if in Cardiff.
D. M.
Very helpful even on one of their busiest days of the year. WE'LL DONE STAFF.
N. M.
Hotel needs refurbishing.. coffee at the bar was awful..basic breakfast..

This hotel is the perfect place to be in the centre of town within walking distance of the shopping centre, bars, restaurant, entertainment, etc! Even being on top on a busy location it is not too loud with it is nighttime so you can still get a good night sleep.
However the parking situation is not good. Spaces are very TIGHT! And even so you will be lucky to get a space by how busy it can get. Not the best of situations.
Hotel rooms are okay at best. Beds are comfortable and so is the living space however everything from the kettle to the bathroom fixtures are very dated. Even the floorboards kept making noises from inside the bedroom to out in the hallway. Dated or character...
A. M.
Lovely room, staff great, food amazing.
M. E.
Checked in 18th Dec 2020 Covid Rules. Was very quiet in town for obvious reasons. Hotel has been spruced up a bit since last time I was here. Beds comfortable room 101 corner suite. Didn't have the breakfast so can't comment. Would I stay here again, yes. Close to everything. Parked in Cardiff Blues car park £12 for the night.

Stayed at the Angel hotel a few days ago. Have always been fascinated by it as I used to walk past it on my way home from work everyday. It took me 50 years to do it but I am so glad I did. It was everything I hoped it would be. The staff were so helpful and polite, especially Emma who helped me get a photo of that magnificent staircase. Can't wait to visit again and thank you so much for the free upgrade.
D. P.
The hotel itself is impressive but has a poor car park and over priced tariffs . Afternoon tea if you had to pay full price wouldn't be worth it but with a voucher it's not so bad. The 3 slithers of finger sized sandwiches were ok but could be better. The coffee seemed stewed but not to bad. The cakes were fresh and tasty. The staff were nice and very helpful and the hotel was immaculately clean. We will go again but next time to try a meal and an overnight stay as you can fault the location .
S. E.
We spent a night at the Angel on the 16/12/18 with a groupon £89 deal, this included a three course meal with a bottle of wine (for two), breakfast (for two) and a late check out. The room was lovely, huge queen size bed which was so comfortable. The room was so big with a lovely sitting area. The evening meal was absolutely gorgeous and the breakfast was really good too. The drinks in the bar were reasonably priced and the staff were lovely. The only complaint we can make is that the carpet could have done with a clean, even better would be to lay laminate flooring. we cant wait to go again as the value for money was exceptional. We would recommend this to anyone...............

The Angel is a quirky hotel. The entrance/foyer is stunning and well presented.
The location is fantastic, particularly if you're looking to explore the nearby castle, city centre, and/or the Principality Stadium.
The breakfast offering is fine, and the pricing, if you're staying on a weeknight is reasonable, too.
The rooms, however, are not so stunning. They are in need of some major TLC!
The single room I was in was very dated. The bathroom door wouldn't close properly; the toilet emitted a faint but noticeable sewage-like smell along with a constant dripping sound, and the most annoying part, was that there may as well had not been a window in the room.
I was facing the street near the car park and on a busy Friday night in Cardiff central, I could pretty much hear everything on the street - from the cars to the people walking by. Not so good for sleeping!
I see the hotel is set to be refurbished at some point in the future, and I'm sure once its restored it will be a grand hotel once again.
G. A. L.
Amazing afternoon tea with friends lovely service fantastic place great time going again very soon
B. C.
Very grand old hotel but needs updating in some respects. Air con would be awesome! The rooms are clean and what you need but a bit on the small side, mine was anyway. Bed was comfy. I struggled for plug space because I needed a fan, the plug at the side of the bed was taped up. I had a chicken and bacon burger with fries which was very nice, £12.75, extra £5 for room service, nope! Breakfast was good actually plenty of choice, and all tasty enough. Would probably stay again due to location and price.
R. A.
Everything from start to finish was perfect. I took my mother away for an overnight stay via a Groupon deal. Absolutely fantastic, the meal, the room, the breakfast and staff. Thank you will be returning again.
J. F.
I give it three stars but with just a little effort it could so easily been five.
On arrival we were meet by a Male receptionist who was friendly, polite and professional. The foyer of the hotel is quite exceptional, stunning staircase and beautiful chandeliers. Our room was clean and spacious, nice size bathroom lots of fluffy white towels. Then...down to the bar, no atmosphere at all and a dour barman who made no attempt at conversation, English might not have been his first language but a smile goes a long way. Onto our three course meal with wine. The waiter was pleasant enough but no tablecloths, not even a placemats just formica top tables. Our wine was brought just bunged on the table the waiter didn't even unscrew the top!!! The food was excellent, couldn't fault it at all. But despite asking if we could have a small break between courses we'd had three courses in 35minutes!!! Breakfast was good, saw plenty of options and lots of it.
J. H.
Nice grand hotel right by the castle and city centre only stayed 1 night but was impressed with what you got for your money. Room was spacious and clean. Bar was fairly priced (rare for a hotel) breakfast is not to be missed fantastic large spread with everything you need on hand highly recommend the fresh cooked pastries
C. R.
Lovely stay and this hotel, room clean and fresh. Great breakfast
v. r.
Excellent service, friendly, helpful staff. Big room, clean, tidy, great decorative order, warm, comfy. Good sized bathroom.
Delicious dinner with good service & equally tasty breakfast (buffet style hot & cold) Could not fault our stay
J. H.
We had a Lovely family Christmassy meal. The restaurant has a Relaxing atmosphere. My two grandchildren had plenty of room to move around, which kept them happy. Bonus was we could also include our little dog in the celebrations. Thank Angel Hotel, we will definitely be visiting you again
M. H.
Lovely hotel! The staff are lovely and the food was delicious with fast service!! 3 courses, a bottle of wine and breakfast in the morning included was amazing!! Lovely rooms with tea and coffee available-which is very important for me! Would definitely recommend!! In the city centre to so easy to get to Bute Park, the Castle and all the shops!!!
c. s.
A hotel is right in the centre of Cardiff city, opposite the Castle. The room prices are reasonable, as is the £15 charge for dogs, even if you had 2 small ones. The hotel parking however is expensive (£13 per day) and the car park is not that big, but we were allowed a free short day to unload and load up are belongings at the start and end of our stay. We did not have breakfast because this was £15 per person, which we thought was too expensive. This should be £10 maximum.
The rooms are a decent size and comfortable. We did have a problem with the window blind in the bathroom. It was difficult to get it to pull down. I thought the Angel were a bit mean with the toiletries and biscuits for a room occupied by two guests. Only one each of a small bottle of Shampoo & Shower , and one packet of 3 bourbon biscuits!
The staff were friendly and efficient and our stay was OK. Pity we could not have used the car park or dining facilities because of the prices.
C. W.
Public areas very nice but rooms whilst clean a bit shabby .Bedrooms that face car park noisy. I'm told other side quieter. Food, drink and service excellent. Location central and perfect for graduation. Some very nice little voucher treats.
F.
Beautiful hotel, the standard room had high ceilings and was well equipped. Bed was comfy. The restaurant had good food that came out fairly quickly, although I don't think the waiting staff had fully memorised the locations of tables. Our room was a few floors up but was facing a busy road so was loud occasionally. No other issues though, staff were friendly!
K. O.
Lovely hotel, great staff, allows dogs, amazing location!minutes away from all the night life yet quiet so you can have a good rest.
Only issue was car park. Space is not guaranteed as its too small.
C. H.
Beautiful hotel with an excellent location. Views of the castle and Cardiff Arms Park. Evening meal was amazing especially the steak. Probably the best steak I have ever had. We were in room 201 which is above the main entrance. It was a good size and very comfortable. The breakfast was a buffet with a great selection and you and order porches eggs as well as other items. Good selection of cereals, yogurts and continental options.
Had a great stay and would love to go back. The Angel has its own car park behind the hotel which costs £13 for the night and you can stay there until 2 pm. That is a good price for the area.
G. T.
We've stayed in this hotel five times now and this time was just as good as the rest, although I wasn't allowed to stay with my parents this time due to #ageism. Having my own room was GOAT though because I got to stay up late and do things like watch Casualty on my tablet. The breakfast was nice too, even though they were late bringing my warm milk this morning, and their selection of pastries could be inconsistent at times. In essence, a lovely hotel with a nice atmosphere- but beware the old biddies on the stairs!
J. P.
Beautiful hotel with original features which make you stop on the spot when you see the staircase.
Service is second to none with brilliant service with a smile and not stuffy. Good food, lovely afternoon teas and even cater for vegans. Hospitality events are run to perfection and great food compared to other hotels or large venues
S. E.
Lovely hotel. Right in the heart of the city. Premium double room was spacious but a little bit dated in terms of the decor. They even offered to provide a cot for my wee one. And they provided a blanket as well. How thoughtful!:-)
Breakfast buffet was also great! Had many options to choose from.
P. W.
This hotel served its purpose but don't be fooled by their out of date photos. The building inside was very dated. It really needs a good revamp. The room we were in had a horrible bacteria like smell. Possibly from the Aircon. The staff in reception were generally helpful. The staff on the hotel bar, useless. I had a Corona, which is traditionally served with a slice of lime. Instead of putting one in the drink the barman dumped a bowl of limes, with what looked like 5 day old cling film, on the bar and we had to pick one ourselves, with no gloves or tongs. How many people's hands have been in that bowl unwashed ...
E.
This hotel was convenient and cheap for the purpose of the stay (graduation), however the whole hotel needs renovating and to be refreshed. There's a difference between being tastefully vintage or just poorly maintained. It was basic and pleasant but I felt that the pictures on the website were taken a good 5 years ago.
On check-in I experienced a freak error where my card was being declined, I don't know whether it was my age or the pure ignorance of the receptionist but I was greeted with a very patronising and unhelpful response even though I was immediately offering to retrieve my partner's card as an alternative.
Breakfast was good and had efficient staff, however on the bar I received poor service with the barman handing me a whole bowl of limes half covered with what looked like 5 day old cling film and no tongs for a lime to go with my Corona.
A little disappointing.
J. C.
Bathroom not great seemed a bit grubby on tiles maybe just old
S. H.
Excellent location to the centre of Cardiff. Impressive entrance however rooms although a good size need refirbishment as the rooms we stayed in were tired and the bathrooms had mold on the walls. Staff were friendly and professional and breakfast was good. Just shame about the rooms

Lovely older hotel room was more than adequate for us spotlessly clean staff very friendly and helpful, we were the for 3 nights the bar and restaurant both open subject to current rules next to the castle and xmas markets and shopping very enjoyable stay

Didn't have the breakfast so can't comment. Would I stay here again, yes. Close to everything. Parked in Cardiff Blues car park £12 for the night.
P. G.
Staff were very friendly and polite. The room was comfortable and homely. We had a meal in the restaurant and were very impressed. The waiting staff were very accommodating and attentive. Would definitely return and stay here again if in Cardiff.
T. J.
Amazing location, and extremely friendly staff. Definitely recommend the 3 course meal. The food was beyond expectations! Greg and the rest of the bar staff were top notch. Our room is clean, with a view of the castle. Would love to see …
S. H.
Gorgeous hotel. Spacious rooms. Restaurant staff were unclear of how to order. Food wasn’t the best.
K. O.
Lovely hotel, great staff, allows dogs, amazing location!minutes away from all the night life yet quiet so you can have a good rest.
Only issue was car park. Space is not guaranteed as its too small.
N. H.
Too hot. Seriously in need of a better fan system which they claim as "air-con". It was a particularly hot day when I stayed so I imagine it's not that bad all the time, but for the price you pay I'd expect better in place. Trying to eat breakfast in a hot stuffy room was unbearable and off-putting. The room itself was clean and spacious, bit old fashioned but nice enough. I had a nice view of Cardiff Castle and the hotel is in a great location. Staff on reception were really welcoming and helpful though, allowing me to leave my luggage with them past check-out as I had an exam to go to. Probably wouldn't pay the amount I did again for what I got.
B. n.
Lovely older hotel room was more than adequate for us spotlessly clean staff very friendly and helpful, we were the for 3 nights the bar and restaurant both open subject to current rules next to the castle and xmas markets and shopping very enjoyable stay
C. K.
Great location for shopping, site seeing or for a night out. History of the hotel is fascinating. As others have said could do with some modernisation but on another hand this adds character. Value for money
J. G.
Well... it's pot luck with the rooms... a quarter of the rooms you get to see Cardiff castle. We got to see this... I thought we had a swimming pool... but it was a flat roof with a blocked gutter... and that isn't a water slide. If you strain you can see a bit of the principality stadium, and some sort of parrot in a big cage. Good location and of you like the hotel in the shining. Then you will like this, staff were friendly and helpful.
Close to rail station.
Cardiff however is a bit of a dump.
Accosted by several homeless people.
And a sniffer dog would have a field day with half the people wandering around.
Windows were rotten.
N. T.
Lovely grand old fashioned hotel. Truly elegant in its day. However our room was not that clean with remnants of biscuits on the floor, dust in corners and few bluebottles buzzing around. Hard to know how they got in because window was screwed shut. All that said it is in ideal position for the city centre shopping and the castle.
A. J.
The hotel was near the center of Cardiff the rooms were very clean and the bed was comfortable but the room was far to hot. Breakfast was a little disappointing with food being left under the heated lamps until it all looked like plastic I did comment to the waitress, who explained she will tell the cook I personally think it is the job of the waitress to make sure the food is kept fresh.
E. B.
Love this place , stayed there before , we were very welvome from the time we arrived till the time we left . Breakfast was really good & had a variety of choices & we had an three course evening meal which was lovely too . Cant wait till our stay again next year .
A. W.
Stayed here to attend a wedding. It's a shame that my room was tired a bit shabby and needs updating, but that is the only fault. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and the tea making facitities adequate. The communal areas are beautiful, the food excellent and the staff friendly and helpful.
T. D.
Excellent Staff & Management
During my stay they had a bit of a polava with room keys not working. They took care of getting us into our rooms graciously and quickly with good humor. They were helpful on numerous occasions and all of the staff were very kind.
As other reviews have stated, the hotel feels a bit dated, but that's not important to me. It was clean, and the service was superior. The rooms and bathrooms are large and nice enough.
I hope to return, and I will definitely be staying at this hotel again.
T. M.
The price was perfect for a Monday. The room itself was very comfortable indeed but did need a little TLC here and there. The staff were welcoming and very helpful at check in they explain everything to us. I would definitely stay here …
P. F.
A central hotel with a warm air. Check in went well with spacious rooms appointed as you'd expect . facilities are good and the bar well stocked. Staff smile and say hello and welcome you. Great buffet breakfast, one of the better ones in my opinion. Overall a great stay. Thank you Angel Hotel
V. C.
Our room was ok, very little road noise, great nights sleep in a very comfy bed. The other room was not as good. Poor water pressure and hardly any heat to it. Lights didn't always work either! The rooms definitely let the hotel down, the rest of the place was lovely and the food was good
C. H.
I attended a social event at the Angel Hotel. The main rooms and area I was in were clean and well presented. They were spacious and light enough for a large gathering. The event was organised by an outside source, so I cannot comment on the desk staff however the bar staff were polite. The toilets were clean and well stocked. Overall, a good experience.
K. B.
The hotel is smart and well kept, and our rooms were all modern and very clean. However what really made our stay was how amazing the staff have been - every member of the team that we spoke to was cheerful and helpful, and genuinely seemed as though nothing was too much trouble. We were a party of 9 in Cardiff for a family wedding.
I definitely recommend the Angel and would stay here again
N. S.
An okay place, it just felt a bit "tired". WiFi has a problem early one evening that couldn't be fixed till the next morning. My shower was lukewarm for four of my five days staying here and was only sorted out on the last day (despite raising it the first day). In their favour, the staff are pleasant and the rooms were reasonably quiet for fairly noisy city! If it suited a need I might return but I'd be hard pressed to recommend it.
C. G. (.
Hotel itself was good, clean rooms, friendly staff. However, we stayed 2 nights, breakfast 1st morning was pretty awful, but 2nd morning there was an improvement. Great location.
K. W.
We again had a nice time staying at the Angel Hotel. Rooms were ok but the hotel is still very dated requiring a full refurb!
The food was ok most of the time, but the pork loin is STILL a tough inedible pork chop which we had twice before and it's still the same. The chicken dish in contrast was very nice but it was taken off the menu after the first day of staying. Also friends had the confi of duck deep fried which was horrible, rather duck breast would be a better option it was said!
I really feel the hotel should be looking at gathering their own feedback with forms so as to improve the quality of the food that is being served, so as to improve the customer experience and get more positive feedback and thus more business rather than receive the same negative feedback on the food as before due to very little change on the food.
Staff were all very nice and clearly hard working and a credit to the company.
Hope to return again with it being in such a great location.
P. S.
Would visit and stay again. Booked it short notice, got a nice room. Really good breakfast, friendly and quick service. Location is near Cardiff Castle, river, pubs, etc. Short walk to National Express coach station.
J. H.
Was worried after reading some reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Nice rooms, the decor seems to have been updated/cleaned. The evening meal was top class and the breakfast was piping hot and plentiful. Well done Angel.
R. P.
The foyer is lovely, sadly the room I stayed in was very rundown.
P. A. V.
The hotel is in a great location, near the Castle, Millennium Stadium and about ten minutes walk from Cardiff Central train station.
I stayed for one night in a room facing the castle walls.
I found the hotel to be clean and tidy with all the essentials. The reception and bar were bright and welcoming.
The room itself was a double room on the third floor. Unfortunately, only one lift was working. A sign was put on place shortly following my arrival.
The ensuite was a reasonable size. Although there was a bath, I took a shower which was very good. The sink was large and clean. Generally, the ensuite was showing its age a bit.
The room itself had a large, useful wardrobe with iron/board, a desk, a soft occasional chair, a TV unit and a double bed. Again, the room felt worn in. Despite this, it was clean and comfortable. The bed was excellent.
Overall, I would recommend the hotel as a base. I cannot review the restaurant facilities as I dined out.
G.
Great location, nice enough room, just. Very very helpful and welcoming staff. Breakfast passable but they need to pay more attention to the buffet setup, cold sausages and lots ran out and not refilled. I'd stay here again though if breakfast issues fixed.
C. J.
Lovely stay on a Groupon voucher. The room was large clean and comfortable. The evening meal was very nice as was the breakfast. I planned on going back with my partner but even though I paid car parking on check-in I received a few days later. It seems I may have put one wrong digit or letter when registering! I read on a forum about a lady who uses the car park regularly for shopping and has a coffee in the hotel as a legitamite excuse to use their car parking. She got a parking fine and the hotel overrode it for her. When I rang the hotel as a paying guest although they checked and confirmed I had paid the parking charges they said they couldn't do anything about it. Meaning I paid £38 to park overnight. Defanatly won't be going back which is a shame.
P. C.
Pleasant hotel with bags of history. Well situated for the castle ,stadium ,town centre and Wetherspoons.
L. L.
Great location for sight seeing and shopping. Friendly helpful staff, food in restaurant by night very tasty. The down side was the size of the bedroom was very small for two people for 5 nights, the place could do with a facelift all round even some paint would brighten and freshen the it up.
D. C.
Great location. Great service. Parking is a bit of a squeeze if you have a big car.
L. L. f.
I stayed here and the room I got offered was awful one of the lamps in the room was leaning to one side and stained it was a very tired hammered and dated room
You could hear people having a shower in the next room and arguing as well and it was definetely not sound proofed
I complained to the management on reception downstairs and was moved from this dated room to a much brighter more modern room with laminate flooring hence why I have given 3 stars instead of 2 and felt a lot more comfortable in this room
The breakfast in the morning was in quite a cold large room which wasn’t very comfortable but the hot breakfast was nice enough although the hot chocolate that they got for me was a bit watery and didn’t taste that nice at all
For location this hotel is great and I did hear that the Beatles stayed here once to which whether true or not remains to be seen
Oh btw the car park at the side you have to pay for it is quite expensive by the day but I suppose that is city centre parking prices for you
Stay here and see what you think of this place yourself
S. R.
We stayed as part of the Groupon deal and to be fair the staff were great the hotel (a Little tired) but cosy and the evening meal was interesting probably my mis-understanding but I thought I'd ordered Chicken supreme but I got a lovely chicken breast in gravy with roast potatoes and carrots. I should have read the menu more closely as i was expecting something different I think I upset the Maitre'd when i questioned the dish (Sorry my Bad) there is parking, but I hope you have a narrow car as it's very tight. (Make sure you register your car at reception though) all in all we had a lovely time, Cardiff and it's arcades (shopping) are great, the people are very friendly. one thing though in the dining room I kept hearing a noise like a hearing aid going nuts it went on all throughout dinner. I eventually located the source??? there's a bus stop right outside and it seems every bus has a squeaky door, something to remember if your sleeping in a road facing room.
We would definitely go back so handy for all the shops and amenities...
L. B.
The location was perfect, right in Cardiff City Centre. The staff and service was great. The rooms were large, but it was an old building so the only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because it is an old building, so the rooms were a little worn. But it was still a beautiful place to stay, I'd definitely go again.
D. S.
We visited this elegant Victorian hotel overlooking Cardiff castle for afternoon tea. As this was purchased for us as a gift via Groupon I wasn't sure what to expect but the restaurant was stunning, the staff were very welcoming and the food was delightful and filling. As we weren't able to eat all of the cake provided the kitchen were very helpful and made an adorable little tin foil goodie bag for my daughter to take home to eat later. We had a fantastic experience and will definitely be back soon.
D. J.
Stopped by to visit friends who were staying at the hotel. Lobby was spacious and otherwise unremarkable. Had a double Jamesons at the bar and it was inexpensive and poured tall. Some wedding photography was occurring nearby. Did not stay in a room so cannot comment on that but it seems like a tidy enough place.
E. S.
Room was nice and generally clean if a little dusty. Bed and pillows were super comfy. Breakfast the next morning was ok....service was good through out. And the 24 hour bar is a great idea!
D. C.
We stayed here for one night 3rd February in room 318. We were really surprised by how nice the room was, large, comfortable and clean, looking straight out onto Cardiff Castle absolutely beautiful! We had a three course evening meal at the restaurant and full breakfast the following morning - the food was superb! We paid £13.00 for 24 hours parking which was very reasonable. We would definitely recommend the Angel Hotel to anyone who wants good quality in the heart of Cardiff!
S. B.
Friendly Staff and very helpful when shower wasn't working. Moved us immediately and upgraded our room. Nice breakfast and good sized bar next to restaurant area. 5 mins walk to main shopping area and Cardiff Arms Park. Rooms clean but could do with a little updating. Some room have a view of Cardiff Castle, which is next to the hotel.
N. P.
We had a lovely holiday, stayed for three nights very welcoming, friendly and professional staff. Easy check in. Beautiful entrance with staircase leading to both sides of the hotel.(took nice pics).
We loved our double spacious rooms, comfortable & spotlessly clean with all necessary amenities. Located on the 3rd floor, view wasn't great of an old roof but I could open my window for fresh air every morning. Simple 2 paged directory. Dog friendly. Free car park.
Brilliant central location for those who want to explore Cardiff. Close to the castle, restaurants, cafes, pubs, arcades and Principarity Studium.
Self service buffet breakfast with a very wide selection cerals, fruits & cooked food. 10/10 Definitely recommend and coming back soon.
G. T.
Stayed at the angel Cardiff 25june to 27june,room 304,bed was comfy although did have a broken spring on the edge, room was clean and spacious, bathroom well presented with fresh towelling and toiletries, unable to have a good night's sleep, due to etremely noisy female guests in room next to ours, food at the castells restaurant was of a good standard at both breakfast and dinner.
For me the best asset at this hotel is undoubtedly the staff, slight issue at breakfast due to lack of communication, but was ironed out smoothly and very professionally, Alex at the bar worked tirelessly and was a pleasure to meet, the waiting staff at all times at the restaurant, worked diligently and courteously, without being overbearing and fussy. Keep up the great work, something some of your competitors could learn from, already looking to visit in the future, thank you.
A. W.
Very dated, desperately in need of some upgrades. Unfortunately nothing good can be said for the veiw to the rear and £13 for overnight parking. I won't be staying again, however the breakfast was very good and the Staff very helpful.
I. J.
Very nice clean and very hospitable great value.
S. H.
A group of 16 stayed this weekend just gone, outstanding the staff were excellent from start to finish, The hotel should be very proud of all the staff they were brilliant, made our stay .
Thank you.
P. D.
Nice tidy hotel .would stay again
c. p.
Beautiful hotel and stunning food, reasonable drink prices only losing one star cos of how extremely hot it was. Visited in January and had to have all the windows open because the heating couldnt be turned down.
T. M.
I had my baby shower at the hotel on the 8th October and could not fault the hotel at all. The location is excellent. There are about 10 steps from the street to the Reception area. Very close to shops and restaurants. Hot water from fairly powerful shower, working towel rail.
F. G.
Old fashioned charm, a little dated but comfortable and central.
C. F.
We stayed here over the Cardiff half marathon weekend two adults with our two Huskies. The room we got was large and airy and pretty much clean. The issues we had were, that they charge for everything they can. Our dogs were charged at £30 per night for each one! OK so there maybe some extra hoovering but £60 a night's worth of it??? Also as we have dogs we can't eat anywhere in the hotel with them so we have to have breakfast in our room which incurred another £7.50 tray charge. If you stay here and intend to have breakfast then pay the day before at it is £8 rather then on the morning £14. Another problem was our toilet flush was so terrible that it took about 4 goes to flush anything away. Then there is the tea/coffee, we were given two packets of sugar and only four tea bags. I've been in £30 a night B&Bs that give you so much more than that. Breakfast was 10 minutes late and a bit of a random selection compared to what we had ordered. Also parking is £19 a night to add to the cost. The reception staff where a little curt and sharp at check-in, however the bar staff and house keeping where very helpful and friendly. All in all it's very expensive for what it is.
I must add that the checkout was very good and the reception staff that was on that day was most helpful and indeed in the end we were only charged £30 for the two night for the dogs and £13/pn for the parking. Apart from the miss-information at check-in the Angle is a nice hotel and now that we know we can have breakfast with our dogs in the bar we shall be back.
A. W.
Friendly staff, good room size and convenient location for town only downside is decor a bit tired
D. M.
They managed to meet my request amd we got upgraded to a double room. The room was very nice and spacious. Hotel was literally next door to the castle.
S. F.
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The view of the Cardiff Castle every morning during breakfast made this stay extra special. The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. The continental breakfast was nice every morning and staff was very helpful. You can't beat the location- within a 10 min walk from Cardiff Central Station, just a few minutes from City Centre and literally just across the road from Cardiff Castle. We even walked to Cardiff Bay area which was about a 25 min walk, but still very manageable. I would definitely go back to this hotel.
A. W.
Lovely Hotel, enjoyed our stay. Staff welcoming although took a long time to be served at bar. Had to go in search of someone to serve us
M. J.
Nice hotel ,bit old building but nice inside. Had covid19, social distancing posters , sanitisers everywhere. Close to all the city centre shopping area, food places and big castle and massive park called Sophia gardens
T. H.
The staff here are so helpful and friendly. A very welcoming atmosphere and a great location. Clean comfy rooms and a great breakfast. Fab base for shopping nearby the Christmas market was fantastic. Recommend this hotel
R. H.
Service was slow, we were one of about 3-4 tables and we're told they were very busy, it took several tries to get a highchair for my little one. Once we served our food our waiter was really good and is a credit to the hotel. The portion sizes wheelie smaller than expected for the price and there were several changes to items with out us being told beforehand.
R. 2.
Great new menu, fantastic food, superb staff, made us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble...
T. M.
Short walk to the entrance. Its close to the railway station for a quick taxi ride. We were able to check in on time and were had everything described to us by a very friendly member of staff. The room was spotless as was the bathroom. Great hotel in great location with great atmosphere.
T. M.
It's in a great location. All the facilities of a city centre are close by and a level walk away. The breakfast was buffet style, the cooked breakfast was good but we found the hotel did not have a very good choice if you wanted just a continental style breakfast. Thanks again, Sue.
D. R.
Fantastic place for pre and spit game day. Feels like the secret is out but still go there none the less. Beer is solid and the singing makes up for everything win or lose. One of the best places to experience Welsh rugby fans in their element.
J. R.
Held a surprise babyshower afternoon tea in the clock suit. Room was lovely with a beautiful view of Cardiff Castle. Some members of staff did let the hotel down but the experience was made by one member of staff, that made it his duty to make sure the rest of our time went without any problems. Would still recommend especially the room! Lucky us had sun so we even made use of the balcony attached to the room
T. M.
The hotel is very central and by the beaut Cardiff Castle. On the up-side, the location is brilliant if you want to be in the middle of Cardiff or if you were going to the rugby; the Stadium is about 200m away. Breakfast was well cooked. Best price was from hotel own website which easy to use. I imagine it was very fashionable.
M. B.
Room good size facilities good Quiet room quite warm may need air con in warmer weather but good for our visit (Feb). Bedding clean bathroom facilities also clean. Parking could be difficult in busy periods.would definitely re visit.
R. R. (.
Biggest advantage is being closer to real important places. Reception staff and restaurant staff were very friendly and ready to help. While parking is chargeable, it is reasonable in such a city centre location. Rooms are big enough..
R. T.
Impressive reception area in a locally iconic building, large rooms with paint peeling off the walls in my room.
V. J.
Location excellent. Staff attentive. But could do with a bit of TLC.
R. H.
Couldn't be a better location for Cardiff centre or the Rugby Stadium. Our room overlooked the castle. Very tidy traditional hotel, pleasant decor and great Christmas decorations. Food very good and all staff terrific.
C. M.
Had a Groupon deal 1 night dinner bed and breakfast room was comfortable and food was excellent
N. N.
My wife and i had a lovely stay here sunday night included in our package was a lovely double room . A three course evening meal for two including a bottle of wine + a full English breakfast all for £89 . It was a great way to celebrate our ruby anniversary with friends
K. J.
Really lovley hotel always stay here if i can when came to cardiff
I. L.
Still elegant place. Wonderful, attentive staff. Lunch. The veggie one was a ratatou sauce and mushroom ravioli which was hot and delicious. My partner had sea bass ,tiny piece and dry cous cous. Not so good. Puddings ...wonderful.£2 deducted from bill for dry cous cous. Complimentary tea and coffee. Yes we would go again.
P. B.
This talky is a lovely place with amazing service. There are little amenities ask over that mane it clay and comfortable. It does need some repair. The windows in my room are in desperate need of replacement. I do hope the keep to the character of the place when they do. The staff is amazing. I will be back.
J. H.
A special place. The staff are so welcoming. The rooms have everything you need for a quick stop over city break. Bar and Breakfast brilliant : )
L. W.
Beautiful decor. Excellent service from polite staff.
Rooms very clean and well provided with everything you need.
Excellent packed lunch too
C. W.
Fantastic location, right opposite the castle and close to bude park. Extreamly clean staff attentive, food was very good, parking round the back , which you do pay for. Check at 1,00 o'clock, but didn't have to leave the car park till 2. Would highly recommend.
L. W.
Attended a parry in the Castle Arms bar which is downstairs in the hotel. Really lovely venue for an event, nice dance floor and rustic atmosphere. A bit tricky to find when coming from inside the hotel but got there in the end. Drinks very expensive though - £3.90 for a pint of Brains and £4.70 for a small white wine and soda. Much more expensive than other bars in town, but still a nice venue.
n. l.
The hotel was very central to where it was that I was going during my stay in Cardiff with all the facilities around me ie shops and restaurants. Inside the hotel itself it was very welcoming. The hotel offers parking in a car park solely for the guests with no access from other vehicles which made me feel that it was safe to leave my car in an area which I didn't know. The room was also very tidy with the essentials for a good night. The beds were AMAZINGLY soft! Has an incredible night sleep. Absolutely would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in central cardiff without breaking the bank.
J. H.
I think, in its day The Angel Hotel was stunning ...but sadly , I don't think I would stay here again. Very dated rooms, and not very clean. Chipped paint, wall paper peeling off and stains all over the curtains. The best thing about this hotel is the location.
T. M.
Fair enough an old hotel but would of been nice to be informed of this before getting into the shower. The bathroom is very old and you basically had to stand against the wall in the bath to stop the shower curtain sticking to you. Perfect location for attending a rugby match.
J. C.
Bathroom not great seemed a bit grubby on tiles maybe just old
M. R.
Great central location for Cardiff city. Stadium just outside. One feature is elegant stairway to upper floor. Friendly front desk with no problem granting early check in and late checkout. Rooms Ok with comfortable beds, Outward facing rooms suffer traffic noise. Bathrooms in need of refurbishment. Would recommend for central location. Also close to University for graduation events.
D. M.
A very nice hotel. Slightly old fashioned but clean and very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location next to the castle and less than ten minutes walk to the station. Would definitely stay again.
N. N.
We booked the room really late and even got a decent price, the hotel is old and has some history, good location, the room was big, warm and comfy, a bit old, bathroom good size, could be modernised, the bed was really comfy. Cons: thin walls
S. M.
A fantastic overnight yesterday stay at the Angel. Lovely food and first rate service. The rooms need a bit of updating and the wall was damp (Room 223) but all in all great value for money.
S. L.
Excellent service had afternoon tea with a friend yesterday. Lovely cakes and sandwiches as much tea / coffee as you want . Service from a young lady ? Name moud was fantastic nothing to much trouble of her for any customers in the restaurant and was help from a very charming young gentleman well done both hope to visit again very soon
K. C.
Nice hotel with spectacular foyer, rooms are getting a bit dated. Location is great sitting between the principality stadium and the castle. 5 minutes from the central station and the shopping centre.
S. C.
We stayed here for a short city break and were very impressed. Staff were friendly and the hotel is really central for the shops and city centre. The hotel even posted our computer tablet to us that we stupidly left behind in our room. Great service and will be sure to use hotel again if I am in Wales again
N. T.
A lovely hotel, central to Cardiff. Lovely big room and a very large comfy bed. Breakfast was lovely too. Highly recommend.
R. P.
Lovely place to stay. Very spacious and clean room. All the staff were really friendly. Breakfast was great. Right in the centre of town.
S. D.
Hotel is tired and needs attention which is a shame as it is could be such a beautiful building if kept well! Breakfast very bland for the rating the hotel holds as well as soggy hash browns which was something I have never experienced in all my years of staying in hotels..
C. R.
Lovely room, excellent bathroom. Didn't try the food but had cocktails which were great. Overall a lovely hotel right in the town centre.
A. B.
Didn't feel very welcomed and for the price our room was very small
A. R.
I only saw the very grand exterior of the hotel. It is hard to imagine it being less impressive inside. By contrast, it is easy to understand why it is popular with rugby fans as The Principality Stadium is very near and probably visible from the hotel door. Across the road to the left is Cardiff Castle, also illustrated. There is easy access by foot from the hotel to the city centre.
c. P.
Sparking Afternoon Tea with my daughter really lovely treat was delicious
T. M.
The Angel is within walking distance of the Cardiff train station. We were then apologised to and given a new room which seemed fine. Plenty of hotel staff around to ask questions which is rare in this current environment of cut backs. We would definitely stay here again, but would eat out.
M. B.
Lovely rooms, temperature was a little cold in the ensuite. Food and service top class. Friendly efficient staff, really central and suitable for couples as well as families.
L. P.
Really enjoyed my stay here. Bought a deal on Groupon. The staff were lovely the food was too. It's in a superb location. I am really looking forward to staying there again.
J. O. S. R.
Nice hotel and good staff
H. H.
Hotel rooms are beautiful, spacious and clean. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Location is perfect for night life as wellness tourist attractions. I would definitely come back!
F. f. H.
Our stay at the hotel was pleasant but the rooms aren't as polished as they could be. The bed was super comfy with lovely pillows and a thick duvet.
K. K.
Attending a banquet for 220. Excellent service from charming and disciplined staff. Equally excellent food. Outstanding hospitality. And this is twelfth time in 17 years. So equally consistent.
T. M.
I had a room on the main road opposite Cardiff castle didn't hear a thing till I opened the windows. The room itself was okay but looked and felt very 'worn' in some places, especially the furniture in the room. Perfect for a relaxing weekend/few days mid-week break away to visit Cardiff.
L. H.
Nice hotel, great location, very friendly staff
Room was warm and clean. Will use again
A. C.
Clean, comfy, good location, decor needs an update, but lovely spot. What you want from a hotel in Cardiff, close to everything. Parking a bit of a faff.
S. H.
Gorgeous hotel. Spacious rooms. Restaurant staff were unclear of how to order. Food wasn’t the best.
S. W.
Made a delivery there, staff were great
M. B.
A very relaxing and pleasant afternoon tea. The staff including Antonio were very friendly and helpful. Fantastic views of Cardiff Castle. You can enjoy cakes and sandwiches and tea in a relaxing atmosphere.
K. H. W.
Classic hotel with old decor but nice and traditional
D. B.
Great location, nice, big and clean room. Nice staff. However room service took a bit of time then forgot to bring glasses with a bottle of wine :) Had to got to the restaurant to get it myself
E. Q.
Nice vintage place just in the Centre of Cardiff. A bit sour staff on the breakfast shift complaining and speaking their own language (Spanish) they were removing the plates on our table when there was still plenty of time left.
T. B.
Had a lovely overnight stay. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a 3 course meal included with our stay which was delicious and the waiter was fast and efficient.
J. W.
Great friendly staff, massive rooms and good breakfast. It could be a really nice hotel but needs some money spending on it as fixtures and fittings are below par, bed was quite comfy though.
P. B.
Very well run hotel, staff always pleasant and helpful. The hotel is conveniently situated in the heart of the city. The rooms are a bit old fashioned and could do with a bit of renovation.
K. E.
Lovely hotel well situated. Minor issue the shower head in my room leaked and couldn't be adjusted. Lovely helpful staff
D. F.
Location was in the centre so ideal for business or leisure users. The outside of the building is a little tired however the rooms were adequate if a little dated. Food was excellent, particularly the breakfast.
K. B.
The hotel rooms could do with an update but this is a great place to be on matchdays. Not only is the Millennium Stadium next door, there are always good food deals in the restaurant and pre- and post-match entertainment with male voice choir and a great atmosphere.
P. W. (.
Abit dated but, excellent value for money
K. J.
Enjoyed our stay here, had very nice meal, room a little bit dated but clean and tidy
P. R.
Good hotel in a very central part of Cardiff. Staff is very nice and helpful. The hotel itself is nicer in the common area than in the room. My room was really dark.
T. M.
We were in a run down and grotty room. Our room radiator was not working ( valve stuck) and clearly had been out of action for some time previously. Left a bitter taste in my mouth and don't think I'd return to this establishment especially when it's advertised as a.
L. J. M.
Outdated, but does the job. Great location near city centre. Staff was great, and did their best to accommodate to our wishes. On Saturday evening there seemed to be a party with LOUD music right below our room, our maybe directly next to the hotel.
R. P.
A charming quality quirky gem where the food (Inc breakfast) is out of this world. Staff are very professional and nothing is too much trouble for them. A special place that makes you feel all warm inside!
A. H.
My wife loves this Hotel, this is the 4th year for us, yes it is a bit dated but it's like a comfy chair! Like a old friend. Staff lovely will be back.
R. M.
Stayed here 18th October, we had a Groupon deal. Can not fault this hote,l room was clean, meals fab staff very friendly. Close to shops, bars and restaurants. Would recommend.
J. J.
Lovely hotel friendly staff just a short walk from the shops pubs etc would definitely go again .
D. T.
Very helpful staff... Lovely place... Wish we could open the windows though 🤔
M. a. J.
Friendly staff, good food (especially the creamy mushroom starter and the beef shin). Clean, but a little dated and quite expensive to park your car.
M.
Very welcoming and excellent beds, perfect night's sleep.
I. M.
Nostalgic place oldie world nice decor worth a stay central Cardiff City. Deals available. Nice rooms. Sorry Parking is totally impossible. Especially for my motor home.
C. Y.
Hotel is right smack bang in the middle of the city. Out the entrance and turn left, millennium stadium. Out the entrance and turn right, Cardiff castle. Either way will also take you to different shopping experiences. The hotel itself is an old building with a grand staircase to the first floor but no signs to tell you where to go to get to the next levels if you wish to continue using the stairs. Make sure they explain to you where the lifts are and the doors to go through to find those steps.
Room was large with a big ensuit with a cracking view of exhaust fans and flooded rooftops, hohum. All in all a nice place to put your head down and great central location.
D. I.
Fantastic hotel.Food was first class. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back soon x
G. T.
Just came back after another stay at the angel hotel Cardiff this was our 5th visit this year brilliant staff they bend over backwards to help you. Lovely clean rooms recommend it to anyone thank you the angel xxx
L. M.
Enjoyed a very yummy afternoon tea.range of finger sandwiches, beautiful, still warm scones with jam and clotted cream, chocolate mousse and cakes.Only criticism slightly chilly, maybe draught from air conditioning?
J. D.
Had a great room! Booked a standard room but ended up in a mini apartment! Had a sitting room with table and chairs and a TV. Also a TV in the bedroom. Shame we were only there for one night. 😀
T. P.
Perfect location (in the heart of the city, between the Millennium Stadium and Cardiff Castle), well presented rooms of a decent size and with all the essentials, very helpful staff on reception (who allowed us to check in when we arrived 5hrs early!), limited but convenient parking at the rear of the hotel.
M. M.
A bit pricey for what you get. The rooms are okay but need updating. Breakfast is not better than what you get in a cheaper hotel. But well located in centre of Cardiff opposite the castle.
P. W.
Friendly and helpful staff, great for dog owners, the staff made my dog very welcome. The only let down was the room was to hot . Looking forward to our next stay
F. G. C.
Well located, staff friendly, just the furniture of the room was not suitable for the kind of this hotel. It was a little bit old, not antique.
Ask for a view to the castle
S.
Perfect location for city centre, unfortunately the room was very small for the price we paid considering we booked it months in advance, it seemed more set up for a single person so very small, breakfast was cold, shower took forever to warm up,
T. “. V.
Only saw part of the hotel for International Tabletop Day 2016, but it was clean and tidy with helpful staff. Tea wasn't overpriced and there was a great selection to choose from, which is a plus in my book.
L. W.
Excellent food and very helpful staff. Room was clean with a view of the castle although windows are high and don't let alot of natural light on during the day.
L. T.
Went here for our works xmas party for the second time in a row. First time around there was less people and bigger dance floor this year more people which impacted on waiting times and the food was drier but the hotel was nice, clean and tidy!!
J.
Great location with comfy beds.
B. M.
Conference in the ballroom today. Very hot and stuffy but room spacious enough and catering was fine. No air conditioning but it is a period building in the city centre.
N. B.
A very nice room, helpful service. It's a shame that the bar and restaurant are closed, as a result of the Corona restrictions.
N.
Cannot speak highly enough of this gorgeous hotel.clean room, stunning food and most important to us we could bring our dog! Really great central location..will be back again I'm sure
l. b.
Nice central location, big rooms for events and good tables, set together too close though. Toilets are a little confusing to find, more signs should be visible.
P. E.
The room was a tad dated and required a modern bathroom .
A. S.
Great room, shower was amazing, couldn't sleep at all but not the hotels fault. Good facilities and friendly staff.
R. R.
Used the rooms as part of an all day event. Was a lovely building, good facilities and easy to find. Drinks were very expensive though.
J. H.
Good value for money. Large rooms and good public spaces. Some road noise on lower floors. Reasonable breakfast.
R. M.
Staff were good, food was excellent, but the rooms leavw much to be desired. The mattress was very swayback and needed replacement.
L. P.
Excellent service got checked in early beautifull room with spacious bed shower was absolute heaven nothing was too much trouble reception desk always the there to help even at 4am definitely be back well worth the price will definitely be back
c. w.
Great location. Very limited parking and ncp costing £22 for overnight! Rooms are ok, bed comfy but room i was in coukd do woth a better quality refurb.
A. M.
Friendly staff. Good location. Rooms were nice. Had a bit more character than standard chain hotels.
N. D.
We have stayed as part of a deal. A friendly hotel. Our room was large and we had a view of the castle. An old hotel but kept as well as possible.
S. H.
Stay was good up until dinner the second night. Really sorry you nearly broke your tooth on the stalk in the Thai curry. Can I bring your dessert out now!
R. H.
Room was ok, shower was very good, I had this from a deal on group on so it included food, breakfast was ok, a little cold though, 3 course evening meal was nice, would have been happy if i would have purchased this separately, staff were very friendly, couldn't do enough to help, but for the price I paid everything was superb, will definitely stay here again
W. M.
An old iconic Cardiff hotel. A little tired in places but still fairly grand. Great views over Cardiff Castle from certain rooms.
M. E.
Perfect location, very close to city centre and with good bus links to the bay. Rooms and hotel in general were spotless. Parking was expensive but overall enjoyed our stay
L. P.
Lovely hotel, comfy rooms, reasonable price. Friendly staff. Very slow service in restaurant.
G. G.
Had a 1 night stop over beautiful hotel food fab had evening meal and breakfast staff friendly the only thing i would say was the bed was as hard as a rock would have been a 5 star if bed was better x
b. m.
Had a great stay and staff very welcoming spotless room loved it
A. K. A.
Fabulous hotel - super central (only 8 mins walk from Cardiff station). Bute park and Cardiff castle within 200 feet of the hotel. Great breakfast.
d. J.
Lovely staff and food, bed very comfy, only complaint was the noise from the traffic, I was at the front of the hotel.
A. B.
Visited for afternoon tea. Very nice location opposite the castle. Lovely courteous staff and the food was delicious, could have eaten it twice over. Will definitely visiting again.
J. L.
Fantastic place to stay and great service, breakfast and rooms. Have to get over people having dogs in their rooms and the dogs barking through the night.
S. R.
wonderful hotel, excellent service, close to attractions. I am very satisfied
L. G.
Room was great very big, bed was so comfy, full English buffet was excellent ( they has black pudding I was extremely happy 😁) 5 🌟
M. G.

C. W.

S.
Clean and very helpful staff. Great location for Cardiff town centre and stadiums only 5min walk
h. a.
This is an old hotel in central Cardiff, excellent location, it does have parking a short walk away and cost us13 pounds for one night, check in was fine, everyone was helpful, we had a very big room with views of the castle, it had a very large bathroom, safe, hair dryer, tea, coffee kettle, it was very nice, there is a large sweeping staircase as well as lifts, the lifts are a bit slow but fine, everything was clean and tidy, very comfortable beds, nice pillows and lots of storage, we didn't use the bar area but had the breakfast which cost 8.75 per person, it was buffet style and plentiful, full English, cereal, ham, cheese bread/toast different teas and coffee in pits delivered to your table, no complaints, quick check out, we saw a dog in the hotel so guess dogs can stay to, I'd stay again when in Cardiff
D. W.
A terrific little hotel with a long and fascinating history. Definitely a nice place to stay if your tastes run toward the historical, quaint, and stately.
K. H.
Staff were all very helpful and friendly, breakfast was lovely but room wasn't as nice as the 2 other rooms that our friends stayed in.. I was quite disappointed with the room considering the price I paid, it was quite dated and cold and the person I stayed with got bitten by something in the night (presumably bed bugs!) outside of the building and entrance etc was beautiful though.
i. j.
Great hotel to stay at anytime but particularly on rugby weekends. Friendly staff clean comfortable rooms . Good food
D. E.
Rooms clean and comfortable. Food was nice
B. M. (.
This hotel has certainly seen better times. Rooms were musty, toilet didn't flush well and some lights in the room were burned out.
d. b.
Fabulous stay.only for one night. Staff were pleasant. Room was nice and clean. Definitely will go again.
S. K.
Good location nice and friendly staff, but the rooms could do with a makeover.
K. T.
Never stayed here but came to a Christmas Party. Well organised, good food and reasonably priced. Would recommend.
D. B.
Had afternoon tea there for my birthday, it was lovely. The cakes were delicious and the interior of the hotel is beautiful
D. S.
Decent hotel in Cardiff city centre very close to Cardiff arms park and principality stadium I don't know what the rates are for anytime in the year but would imagine that you get a room for watching six Nations or any international match would need to pre-book months and months ahead and even then would be doubtful to secure the staff are polite and helpful can't say anything more BB
J. V.
Brilliant stay here. Room great. Breakfast amazing choice. Would recommend. Will. Be coming back here again
N. C.
Good location in central Cardiff close to castle and Principality Stadium. Friendly staff decent breakfast but rooms a little tired. Good value for money.
D. V.
Great location. Good room rates especially if breakfast included. Very friendly staff. Let down by lack of room maintenance and attention to detail.
J. S.
Better stay than last time, the room was pleasant and clean. Very little noise from outside even though on a main road.
P. W.
Comfortable rooms and great breakfast, clean and tidy with friendly staff, would definitely go back again.
K. R.
I had phoned previously to ask for a window seat during our pre booked afternoon tea but when my friend and I arrived nothing near the window had been reserved so this was dissapointing .The sandwich’s and cakes arrived quickly but after about half an hour I had to go and ask where our pot of tea was as it hadent arrived ..I also had to ask where our glasses of prosecco were .The cakes were ok the scones hadent been warmed up ,but I don’t think all were home made and the sandwiches mediocre. We did have a pleasant afternoon it was a very special occasion having not seen my friend in many years but I feel the customer service needs improving ..along with the Decour a bit old fashioned and old stainless steel teapots ..no “ special touches “on the table and wouldn’t visit again ...as dissapointing..shame as the hotel is in a great city location .
P. D.
Value for money, good food, and friendly staff, definitely stay there again.
J. W.

Amazing service Such a grand hotel could do with a bit of tlc to the paint work but apart from that couldn't find any faults
D. W.
Words cannot adequately express how ideal this hotel is as a luxurious base for exploring Cardiff
E. J.
Afternoon tea was lovely. However our empty plates were left for over half an hour & we weren't offered more drinks.
