Had appointment at the Endoscopy Unit 24/9/22. I received Absolutely outstanding care from Mr McKain and his Very professional team. They really put you at ease and explain everything so clear. For them it’s very routine life but they don’t forget that this may be your first time and certainly have the bedside manner above and beyond. Thank you

I had my surgery in Day surgery unit yesterday. Absolutely fantastic. Massive thank you to the staff looking after me. They are so kind and caring. Would do anything for patient. Very professional. Also checked on me via phone today if I'm OK.

Had to attend the minor injuries unit today due to a back injury, seen within just a few minutes and referred to the OOH GP service. A phone call from them within half and hour followed by an appointment another half hour later. Really good service all round 👏

It’s a shame that people are leaving negative reviews when they are among the luckiest people in the world to receive free healthcare!! Who cares about food being cold or bland, this is the NHS for gods sake!!
The treatment we received here has been nothing short of fantastic. From the nurses, receptionist and consultants, the care we received was amazing. I can’t begin to express how we were made to feel throughout treatment for cancer and the aftercare is just as amazing. They actually care!
A. T.
Had an operation to remove Cancer in my neck had 30 sessions of radiotherapy in Velindre all clear now. Great team at the Gwent.

Overall not a bad hospital to go to. It seemed quite clean and quiet when I was there.
Only issues are the parking is diabolical, there’s no one who can help you when you don’t know where to go and the lady I seen to do an ultrasound was polite but extremely rough when checking my abdomen and I’m still sore 28 hours later!
P. J.
Recently had surgery performed by miss catherine zaskerwch . Wonderful lady her and all her team were amazing and still am getting the best attention

I have been an outpatient in the trauma and orthopaedic department and I have always received excellent care.
I was admitted to the elective surgery ward C7 west and cannot fault the care I received from the moment I entered through the green entrance until the day I left.
EVERYONE on the ward was so kind and caring; nothing was too much trouble for them. This care continued down to the operating theatre with Mr Cordell Smith and his team; I was put at ease beforehand and had such care in recovery. My whole stay was amazing and I cannot thank the staff enough for their care.

Me and my son 20 month turned up emergency and staff was so helpful & kind and got us sorted it was late and they were very kind I like to massive thank you ♥️♥️♥️

Really impressed with minor injuries unit. All staff were lovely and efficient. I was in and out in under 2 hours.

I was admitted on Thursday 18th November to have a Fundoplication operation to my stomach. I was instructed clearly where and how to enter the hospital and to arrive at ward D3. The information was accurate and I was well received and expected. I was shown to my bed which I believe was in B unit of ward 3D. I mention this so the people who dealt with me will know my appreciation.
I would like to thank everyone who looked after me on that unit for the professional, friendly, caring and safe treatment that I received. They are all a credit to the healthcare profession. A special thank you to Charlotte from Birmingham for going the extra mile whilst carrying out all of my pre op checks, a pleasure to meet you.
I would also like to thank the pre operation team for their exceptional attention. They were truly amazing and so reassuring for a first-time operation patient. Sorry I have no idea which theatre it was, but I hope you know who you are
Finally a big thank you to all the team on PACU, for their relentless attention and care. Kelly, who was on the night shift and Kev and Dawn on the morning shift we had great banter - thank you.
My recovery has been fast and problem free, a clear sign of a job well done. I will never be able to thank you enough for all that you did for me.

From the birth of my daughter to the death of my older brother this hospital has been fantastic.
The staff always give their best each time I've had to visit.
My brother and his fiance work damn hard in their respective departments, above and beyond each day and to be honest I think the whole hospital does too.

Thank you all earlier 5 star care when i fractured my ankle xx

I recently had to have my appendix taken out and it could not have gone better. i arrived in A & E and was seen within the hour, with my relevant tests being taken and delivered back to me fairly quickly. i then was told i had to have the surgery and i was afraid as i hadn’t had one before but the nurses and the surgeons and the anaesthetists were very kind to me and let me take my time. the bed was one of the comfiest i’ve slept in and i couldn’t have asked for a better service. 😊
S. W. (.
Overall a good hospital to go to, staff are very helpful and your problems are seen to effectively, downside is the waiting times, however.
S. P.
I can't fault our visit this morning. Booked in and saw triage nurse quickly in A & E. We waited no more than 30 minutes and went in for treatment and a referral to eye clinic. Clean and staff very helpful. Love the new build. Just a shame the smokers don't put there rubbish in a bin, but thats probably against their human rights!
J. B.
my daughter was on d7w this week and the staff both on the ward and theatre were brilliant. They explained everything to us and kept us informed from the nursing staff to the surgeon. The night staff were very helpful in finding some food for my daughter who had surgery and missed the eve meal. Nothing was too much trouble for kath or kat (i think that was her name) Similarly in the morning Jess and Ellie were lovely. Overall a positive experience for a child that was worried about going into hospital to have an operation
T. V.
Wonderful and kind staff. My mum broke her ankle and everyone from the traige nurses in the minor injuries unit to the radiologist were so lovely.
R. S.
Iv had 2 babies here and two admissions with sepsis in both kiddies. The staff are amazing, always so helpful and truely concerned. Not one staff member from the amazing cleaners to the consultants seem like they don’t want to be there. They’re all smiling all willing to have a chat and really look after you. The food is fab! Clean environment. I don’t know how people could complain

Was transferred from Nevill Hall A&E Saturday night with a severe ear infection. I was in agony and incredibly poorly. I was in the SAU ward D5. Some of the nurses were nice, some were pretty rude. I couldn’t hear due to the infection and swelling so asked politely for them to speak louder and instead they spoke very patronising to me like I was stupid. They were not very attentive, I was sick twice (once was on the bed as I didn’t have a sick bowl, no way of getting a nurses attention as no buzzers and I couldn’t get up as I was hooked up to a drip). They were not happy I was sick. Second time I was sick in a bowl but nobody came to see me, so I had to get up and dispose of the bowl myself.
I wasn’t on a bed but a trolley which was uncomfortable. The bathroom facilities were not clean. The food was disgraceful.
The only thing I can say is good is I saw a consultant very quickly and were given medication on time and if I needed something stronger they were quick to sort it out.
But really, not a nice hospital at all.
G. E.
Had emergency ectopic surgery here. Was a whirlwind of events! My initial appoint was 9am, I had a bed by 11am and was in theatre for 3.30. My ward (then cubicles) were clean. I had very friendly nurses and nursing assistants helping and checking on me through out the night. I was very touched by the level of care and sensitivity shown by everyone.
Considering what cut backs have been made by austerity, we are so lucky to have this still with us and we need to fight for it!!
T. G.
Was admitted to A and E yesterday, very helpful caring staff including the paramedics who saved my life. Had a few cups of tea and food in the hospital which was very nice. The nurses deserve everything They are brilliant . The hospital was very clean as well.

Came in for Mastoid surgery, arrived at time I was given 7am on Ward D5E. There was still no beds available but my surgery was to go ahead. Staff were polite, friendly and chirpy, aside from 1 lady who was on the front desk and never gave a name. She was extremely irritable, didn't care to answer any of my questions and told me to just go in there, signalling to the waiting room. After surgery came back to the ward for just before 3 pm. Again staff were wonderful, helped me into bed, gave me fresh water and allowed me to get rest . Later on a nurse woke me to ask me if I'd like to get something to eat, food was good and was then given coffee. All in all I'm happy with the service provided, especially as the ward was so hectic! Thankyou!
n. g.
A wonderful hospital! I could not have received a better service if I had been paying privately for it. The staff were all amazing from the top consultants right across the board. I stayed on a lovely clean ward and the food was good too. The only downside was the atrocious parking provision which mainly affected my visitors. On the whole, well done Royal Gwent!
L. C.
Came in with chest pains on Tuesday morning and was brought in by a calming paramedic. Was seen too immediately in A&E by wonderfully patient staff overnight. Multiple scans and test's the following day and a diagnosis by a cardiologist Thursday morning.
What calm and pleasant people the nurses and health care assistants are; amiable, personable and endlessly helpful, they show enormous tolerance and patience in enormous adversity.
This is the first time I've needed a hospital in an emergency and I'm so glad it was at this same excellent facility as I was born.
Thanks to Sarah (A&E head nurse on Tues, Helen, the marvelous doctor who expedited my treatment and Kyle, a friendly and kind nurse on D1 West who took the time to explain everything and build a relationship with me.
R. W.
I was referred to the a+e today by my gp as I had numbness in my legs and pelvis. I have to say from the moment I arrived everyone was so lovely and efficient. I was seen in the minor assessment unit really quickly and checked over thoroughly and taken up for an urgent mri.
Everything was done so quickly and I was sent back to a+e to wait to discuss the results of the scan.
I can only say thank you so much for the excellent care I received tonight.
M. S.
I spent 5 weeks in c5 West if I remember rightly. The care I received was excellent. The nurses always stayed focused and bright even at the end of their shift, even the house keepers started the day with a smile. It all helped the healing process.
A. D.
My husband has been admitted to the Cardiac Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit on several occasions and he has always received the best treatment from all the medical staff and they have always made a point of telling my family and myself what was happening. They are kind and courteous and he couldn't have been in better hands - we have a lot to thank them all for they are
fabulous!
K. S.
Recently had a major operation at this hospital. The care and support I received here was absolutely fantastic from my consultant, the surgical team and all the nurses and doctors on the ward. They go above and beyond.
j. b.
First rate treatment in Outpatients this morning. I cannot praise the service enough. The staff were smiling and communicative throughout. I felt special and not just a number.
My only criticism is that there was no protocol for compliments there and then. I did ask at reception but they could find no way of my saying a formal 'Thank you; You were all great'. However, there was a protocol for complaints!
Shame about the parking. We were able to walk the 1.5 miles from the bottom of Caerau Rd. where we had to park but most people would not have been able.
W. M.
I had to go here almost 3 years ago to A&E with a severely broken leg. Luckily the waiting times didn't take 21 years like always but the ward staff were nice and I recovered fine. Car parking needs to be improved though.
J. D.
Attended A&,E yesterday for stitches in leg. The staff were all lovely and fantastic, especially the fab nurse practioner who treated me. I cannot thank her and the staff members enough for their help and friendliness. Very much appreciated . Thank you
V. N.
We attended the Emergency Eye Clinic on a Saturday recently and the waiting room was full of emergency referrals. Add to this the fact that they were in the process of relocating to a new ward and so were working in unfamiliar surroundings, the consultants remained professional, calm and most importantly - thorough. So we had to wait 3 hours, who cares, we all have homes to go to, including the Consultants who made sure that everyone was seen that day. When we returned home we received a phone call to let us know the outcome of the tests and to make arrangements to see the Optics Team within a week. This gave us some peace of mind. Of course the facilities at the hospital require attention, plenty of hospitals do, but we could not criticise the Consultants on that day or on the follow up visit 4 days later.
A. G.
My third daughter was born here by elective c section. Wonderful experience. My partner felt completely comfortable and at ease. My daughter was born to Alicia keys New York on the radio. Staff were calm helpful and welcoming. The after care was a+.
S. M.
I had major back surgery at this hospital. The procedure was a success, I stayed in for 3 days, in which time i was extremely well looked after. The consultant, James Cordell-Smith was excellent as were all the team and staff that managed my case.

I was rushed to the Royal Gwent in Feb. 2015 with breathing problems. It became worse during the drive in the Ambulance to the hospital. I was seen there and then, I was sent for an urgent CT Scan which revealed I had double pneumonia. I was on Oxygen via a mask which was not having any benefit at all so I was then put onto a CPAP which forces oxygen into the Lungs. I was then taken to ICU, I remember the first night and next morning after that I became worse and have no recollection of the next 10 days. I spent a further 28 days in hospital. I have no complaints about my treatment whatsoever. The Consultants were brilliant, at one point I was afraid I was going to die. The Nurses contacted the Consultant in charge of my treatment, he came to see me there and then. He remained with me for 30 mins and assured me that there was no way that was going to happen. He was so very nice, he told me everything I needed to know and even talked about Rugby and other things. All the other Doctors,Nurses and other medical staff and none medical staff were unbelievable. I have to thank all who looked after me in the Royal Gwent for being here today. If I am lucky enough to win the big Euro Millions roll over, I will make a massive donation to the Hospital in general and to the departments that looked after me, plus one to the Tea and Coffee Fund which I believe actually exists. So a massive Thankyou to everyone involved in my treatment.
T. B.
Thank you to all the staff on the resuscitation ward, nurses and doctors alike. Ambulance crew took my sister Pauline in yesterday morning (they were also amazing) straight into resus with her breathing, she was in a terrible state, could hardly breathe, the doctors and nurses on the ward couldn't do enough, they worked so hard and acted so quickly to help her, she was eventually taken up to ICU, but if it wasn't for the actions, quick thinking and kindness of the resus team I dread to think what could have happened, I just want to say Thank you again to them all, they are amazing.

I was admitted to the RGH three weeks ago with double pneumonia and sepsis and put into intensive care where the all the staff from consultants, doctors ,nurses and even the ladies bringing the food and not forgetting cleaning staff were absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The care and dedication I received was second to none and really did save my life and I am now back on the road to recovery.
Thanks to everyone on the ICE, HDU,POST OP RECOVERY and DAY CARE UNIT who nursed and took care of me,you really are ANGELS.
Once again many thanks for all you have done for me.
Eternally grateful

Third time in here this year and they always take good care of me. Here again now with really painful leg ulcers and a major femoral bypass op on the way next week just to add to the pain! I feel confident the Royal Gwent staff will get me through it. More confident than I feel that they will be adequately rewarded for doing so......!!!!!
B. G.
Car park back open now but still limited parking spaces. Signposts around hospital can be misleading. If you got an appointment, leave in plenty of time for it. Main outpatients had a cornered off area for kids to play which was good. There's a Costa coffee there with a cash machine which is a bonus.
L. D.
Had had our second baby here, staff couldn't have been more helpful. And midwife was amazing.
Yes parking can we a pain at times but there is a massive overflow car park over the road. So drop off and walk up :)
m. s.
It's always scary when you have an upcoming surgery to face.
I was admitted to RGH ward B7 for a major op in May this year.
Despite all the brutal government cuts , meaning the nurses, doctors and all members of staff hit the ground running on every shift, I can honestly say the challenges they face everyday didn't take away from the sheer commitment and care I received while I was there.
Wonderful people.
R. C.
The staff are amazing. Nurses very helpful and caring. As much as I don't want to end up in hospital again, I know that I will be well looked after in any event
A. H.
Recently visited the Royal Gwent A&E Department after falling down the stairs and fracturing my foot. As soon as I was seen by triage they offered me crutches as I couldn’t walk and the staff were helpful and friendly. I was seen by Jenna in the minor injury department after having xrays, she was fantastic offering me advise and informing me when I would expect a phone call from the fracture clinic. From the time I enetered A&E (which was absolute packed) to which I left with a leg support boot and crutches was 3 hours which is a brilliant response time in my opinion. Big Thankyou to the Royal Gwent!
m. s.
I had to take my Mum into the Gwent yesterday and they were wonderful.
Nicola Jones was so kind, and Mr Shah spent ample time to work out a full case history.
I only wish more people told the nurses and doctors all the positive things, as well as feeding back that the drinks machines don't work etc.
Good up the good work. You all deserve medals.
G. D.
I go for a ct scan regularly as I have cancer. They are always polite and caring. Doing an excellent Job in these difficult circumstances.
M. P.
A decent hospital but awful parking. The car park right outside the hospital is now closed to everyone apart from the disabled. I wasn't even allowed to park with my four year old son who cannot walk far. It is not family friendly at all. The overflow car park is often full and can be a trek for people with young children.
S.
Superb hospital. We didn't know it but my husband was dying invisibly when we went to A&E for a simple blood test for anaemia (local GPs all too full to take a temp registration). We were whisked in STAT, assessed, carefully watched, progressed to an assessment ward. Had big blood transfusion. Given an amazing luxury room. Everything at every step was carefully explained. When I gave my own research I'd looked up it was gratefully received and added to the picture building (no professional snob I was accepted as a useful part of the team). Everyone is endlessly kind at every level, endlessly hardworking. It looks like he's going to make it but ... whatever THANK YOU to our wonderful NHS in Nye Bevan's heartland.
R. W.
Fast and efficient booking in. Fantastic friendly helpful staff.
L. L.
The midwives treated me like royalty and we're really supportive throughout my induction, birth and postnatal. The food was good and fresh water was always available as was tea or coffee. Only downside was there was hardly any hot water when I had a shower before leaving.
M. H.
I couldn't really compare the RGH with many other hospitals, but every time I have ended up in A&E I've always been treated in a timely fashion proportional to my injury and then given the correct amount of care and aftercare / support needed. Not somewhere I'd want to return to, but I'm sure that's the case when it comes to A&E!
M. M.
Although 5 * Loved it doesnt apply !! My father was admitted when critically ill and unfortunately didnt pull through. The staff were angels and greater care and attention could not have been afforded anywhere else. If you are unlucky enough to be in need of the Royal Gwent be assured you will get THE best the NHS can offer..Brilliant staff
B. D.
Had to visit the Urology Department and was extremely impressed by the service I received.
Appointment on time and the nurses who attended could not have been more professional.
Well done Cath and Paullete.
R. D.
My partner had a cycling accident and was.taken to RGH . To cut a long story short the service was outstanding , staff very professional , all in all the best service you could have wished for. The NHS comes under all kinds of scrutiny and the media love to scoff at very islolated unfortunate incidents ..The NHS is admired by the whole world .we are lucky to have free healthcare, forget the notion of we pay NI contribuations taxes etc for it ..we are a lucky nation
P. R.
Been in the Royal Gwent Hospital four times in the last ten years for one thing or another.and I find the staff was excellent.they couldn't do enough for you. And they should be on
more pay then what they're getting now
H. L.
Good Hospital with friendly staff. The Hospital itself is good, with full canteen serices toilets and even a Costa.
The one major disadvantage is the limited parking spaces available. Not many disabled parking spots either.
L. J.
Attended A&E with a broken hand. Staff were brilliant, friendly and helpful. Quick turnaround from triage to x-rays and treatment. Long live the NHS!

On the 19th June I was diagnosed with pneumonia(at St Julians medical centre by Dr Brown.. Thank you) and a terrible infection, I was admitted to Gwent hospital for 19 days, I was discharged on the 8th July, the nurses don't stop, I had a rocky 8 days but then after that once knowing exactly how to treat me I started to recover, I wanted to say a huge 'Thankyou' to all the staff, from the porters(Marcus) were all lovely and work so hard, the T ladies(Dee) &cleaners(Rose)the Gwent is spotless, to name a few, the nurses are fabulous, I was on ward C6 East for over 2wks and the care I got was wonderful, the staff don't stop working, Thank you for all your care & support, Lynsey, Jess,Sarah,Hannah, Gemma, Sarah, Jess, Shaun, Sue, Margory, Kat(there from the beginning) Nat, Carrie, Artie, Sam, Sarah,Becky, sorry if I've forgot anyone, the Dr's are the absolute Best, Dr Andreea IONESCU she's wonderful and they fixed me, Thank you all soo soo much.
H. N. (.
I'd like to thank all the staff that looked after me in reception, treatment room, and c5 east ward and especially the theatre staff and Daniel the surgeon who done my operation today much appreciated and very grateful you all done a great job!❤
J. R.
Excellent care, Awesome staff. Bad parking. If your visiting only disabled parking on the grounds untill building work is completed. There is free parking local and a few mins walk back to the hospital after parking up.
T. P.
Some staff are helpful and others aren't. It's a huge building and it's easy to get lost there although there are plenty of signs. It has lifts to all floors although only 2 out of 6 were working when I was last there
L. “. R.
The nurses, doctors and reception staff are always polite and respectful no matter how busy or stressed.
M. C.
This is the second time recently i have had to be admitted to the medical assessment unit and both times i have had great treatment the staff work hard and are really caring.
C. D.
The waiting times can long but when seen the staff especially in a+e are fantastic and friendly and helpful, the ward staff are also fantastic especially on the cardiac ward
R. O.
I think the royal Gwent is a fabulous hospital but I was wrongly accused of something I didn't do I only tried to help a client out by getting a cheap phone for her then she reported me and ten months later I got dismissed I've been a nurse for over 30years now Im out of work because a patient AH reported me for something I didn't do wish I didn't get her the phone hope she is happy now I'm a good nurse it's the royal Gwent s loss I will miss all my colleagues at the hospital
L. H.
Had emergency surgery and every one from the surgeons to the porters to be very kind and friendly .

Thankyou from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you Dr Amin for saving my life! I'll. Never. Forget.
You revived me at the most critical time. Your friend in Verdansk.

NHS staff provide a very professional and efficient service to help all the patients.
A. A.
I was admitted on the 25th of may for polups to be removed all though I had to wait till dinnertime for the operation the staff were very nice and helpful to me ,
G. D.
Staff was well busy but never failed to give attention to those who genuinely needed it.Although there were patients that thought they were in a five star hotel.and did nothing but moan about the service..
J. C.
I was admitted, received an operation for a hernia and sent home all within 24 hours. Can't complain!
