This is an excellent service - regrettably not available for NHS-only patients.
My choice of it was because of other health conditions I was advised that total-anaesthetic surgery would not be advisable. The surgeon (not an orthodox smart-suited stereotype of a health professional!) agreed to operate on the basis of an examination, and the delay,, if any, was a matter of days.
I was introduced to his anaesthetist, who after providing a an intravenous drip assured me that I would remain conscious but not in a "normal frame of mind".
I had no further memory of the operational procedure. I do not remember being taken to the theatre, or any memories of what was being done to me. I recovered, back in my room, and was asked by the anaesthetist whether I remembered conversing with him, which I didn't (although he told me about the subjects of our "conversation"). I left the hospital the same day.
The result of the operation was 100% success. After one week, the dressing detached itself, leaving nothing but a slight swelling and a small scar. I was properly followed-up post-operatively.

My husband recently used Hernia Clinic Hampshire for his bi-lateral inguinal hernia. He was very impressed with the service that he received. Suzannah was amazingly helpful and answered the multitude of questions that he had.
My husband was operated on within two weeks of contacting Hernia Clinic Hampshire.
The Spire Hospital were very good and the service that he received was exceptional.

Excellent repair of my hernia. Mr James Kirky-Bott, the consultant surgeon,
paid full attention to my treatment in a professional and caring manner.
He did the operation under local anaesthetic. I was able to walk out of the hospital within a couple of hours after a light lunch.
There was no pain during or after the op. I was sore later in the day and I had to be careful how I moved for the following week.
The care at the hospital was very good and the Hernia Clinic's administation was very good also. I was kept well informed through out.

I'm 51 and I had a pair of large bi-lateral inguinal hernias that I'd lived with for 30 years before plucking up courage to get them operated on. Initially it was the good reviews I'd read about the Hernia Clinic Hampshire which finalised my decision to have my consultation there. After my first consultation with Mr James Kirkby-Bott I knew straight away I knew I'd made the right choice. Everything thereafter was stress free and at every stage I was completely at ease, James and the rest of the staff were great. We discussed available options and I chose to have had both hernias operated on at the same time by the laparoscopy keyhole method. I went to theatre around 11am and I was back home that same evening, pain was easily bearable and by day 4 I was off all painkillers. I'd only needed ibuprofen for the first 3 day days. 1 week after the op I felt great, 2 weeks after I felt completely back to normal but followed all of the guidelines regarding how much exercise to undertake, 4 weeks after I could do light gym workouts and reduced all of the weights by 50% just to be safe, now at 10 weeks later I'm at full capacity and back to training on my gymnastics rings. Everything where the hernias were feels rock solid, no pain, virtually no visible scarring, feels great to have my life back again. Thank you James and the rest of the team at the Hernia Clinic Hampshire and at the Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital.

Consultant who was down to earth and not pompous, James, explained the risks clearly but in perspective, and the pros and cons of keyhole vs open and bilateral at same time or separate ops.
Marvellous secretary/ partner (Suzannah) who, when I was concerned about aftercare over the Easter holiday, gave me her mobile number . (I did not need it.)
So if you need a hernia ,or several, sorted yes I would recommend him.
I am sailing and haymaking again.

I am so glad that I chose to have my operation done by Mr Kirkby-Bott and his very professional and caring surgical team.
It was clear from the first consultation with him that I was in good hands, everything was explained fully, my mind was put at ease and all my questions answered.
Communication was maintained between Mr Kirkby-Bott, the Hospital, and myself all the way through from start to finish and beyond.
On my arrival at the Hospital I was put at ease by the staff who answered questions I had previously forgotten to ask, they also asked questions of me and again explained how the procedure would go.
I met with other members of the team including the anaesthetist and Mr Kirkby-Bott & one of his assistant Doctors, who all helped me feel more relaxed and clarified how things would go.
Once in the theatre a Nurse took the time to make sure I was comfortable and aware of what would happen, and as I was having a local anaesthetic wouldn’t feel any pain, I would be awake but sedated enough to relax me.
She chatted with me through the second half of the op as I did fall asleep for the first part, but she was very kind & caring and did her job well.
After the op was completed and time given for my recovery, all necessary checks done I was allowed home the same day!
In conclusion I don’t think I could have been in better hands, I was taken very good care of by Mr Kirkby-Bott and his surgical team.
Their care and professionalism was second to none, I would not hesitate to ask for their assistance should I need an operation in the future.
