Reviews of Royal Victoria Country Park
T. S.
A lovely place to breathe sea air and have a relaxing stroll pretty close to Southampton which allows to avoid typical weekend beach traffic.
The parkland and seafront are nice, there’s enough parking (we paid 5£ for 2 hours, it’s 9£ for the whole day). The toilets are decent though located only near the visitor center.
I was just a bit frustrated by the café as there was basically nothing to eat. Although the ice-cream, especially chocolate one, was delicious.
K. H.
Beautiful place, lovely walks along beach or around the nature walks you can bring food for bbq as they are provided. All round lovely place. Also a good large play area for the kids. If you like Bell tent glamping this is also a great place to stay for the night.
e. l.
Beautiful park, ideal for kids. Combines kids activities and a little beach front to play. Not many bins available at the beachfront. Parking is a bit expensive.
H. P.
Huge open parkland on the coast with good views over the water. Loads of space to play ball games and for kids to run around. Has a cafe and good toilets in the Chapel. The Chapel is lovely. Paid for the tower tour which was great. Climbed 166 steps for great views. Was allowed to ring the bell too. Nice hour walk to cemetery, woods, along rail trail and back. Really peaceful walk. Very busy place generally at weekends, but so large you can find a quieter spot somewhere.
A. P.
Parking cost is a bit pricey, but the country park great for a walk and take in the history of the site. Not much remains of the old military hospital other than the chapel but the information boards explain the background and operation of the site and mark the outline of the bounds of the buildings.
L. G.
It's a lovely place. Great forest walks and you can also access the beach from the park. Beautiful war memorial area & a good few hours of walking round with the dogs.
D.
Not big fan of Southampton, but this neighbouring beautiful park is definitely worth a visit. Lovely walk, plenty of things to do with kids and pets. With some interesting history behind it and even some architecture to enjoy.
L. A.
One of the great open spaces in The New Forest. Big carpark, toilets and usually an icecream wagon. Great place to visit and close to Rhinefield House, and Brockenhurst.
J. P.
I had a very invigorating walk along the shoreline before soaking up the peace of the trees and open spaces within the country park.
M. L.
Lovely place for a Sunday walk. Open parks, a nice tiny train, snacks, coffee, barbecue setups, water front and lot of history.
J. R.
Visited the play area there and rode on the train. Both were good fun. There is also a small tent next to the cafe if you want to eat and drink outside but out of the elements.
P. H.
Great Park on the water up the top is BBQ areas you can rent for a small fee which is great for family or friends to get together and enjoy the park. There is even a dog was on site 😱 it will be nice once they get the toilet block all finished.
S.
A lovely park with some decent views of the coastline. Only issue is the lack of toilets and the parking kiosk which, at the time of my visit, was cumbersome and unresponsive.
H.
Great place for the family, small rocky beach and amazing photos can be taken here! Would come here again.
c. M.
Great park with a good sized play park with a beautiful secret garden for kids. Very close to the beach and really loved the mini train ride with the kids which was cheap, we paid £6 for 2 adults and 2 kids. However, currently , train rides are paid in cash only. There is an additional enchanted play area with carved wood equipment , which is stunning!.Loved the history behind the park in the Chapel. There is loads of parking for a reasonable price.Great for runners, dog walkers, cyclists and just a great family day out. Overall ,loved the park.
A. D. D.
Really lovely park, this was our first time visiting. No litter and a lovely beachside park! We loved the fairy garden too. Very dog friendly all round.
L.
Lovely park for walking and taking dogs out. Lots of open space to go with the family and have a picnic. I would rate it for 5 stars but because of car park that you have to pay and lack of bins around I give only 4 stars. There shouldn't be a charge for this (it was £2.5 for a 1 hour).
S. H.
Lovely place to walk around. Lots more there than I expected. Great play grounds for kids of all ages. Cute little train ride for a very reasonable price, a cafe and a museum. Would recommend for a family day out.
A. A.
One of my favourite places in Southampton where you can enjoy walking, learning history, watching the sea. It has a lovely coffee shop and playground for children. Worth visiting.
M. m.
Love it at the country park, nice coffee shop.right on the solent too, lovely for a walk.
J. Y.
Met up with my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter and took my dog. This is a lovely place for all the family. From the takeaway food to the playground area and the miniature train; not to mention plenty of room to walk. Nothing to dislike, it will be even better in spring and summer.
S. J.
Absolutely lovely. Would highly recommend and definitely go on the train ride!
K. P.
One of my favourite places with many memories held here ❣️ family/partners x
t. h.
Best place to go with the kids from 1 to 101,you won't be disappointed. Museum is now open so very interesting day out with views across Southampton Water and the solent. Enjoy!
P. B.
Love this beautiful country park .....so blessed to have this on our doorstep...Donna and Trevor work in the gift shop they are so friendly and always give the dogs their treats ....
G. M.
Love this place for taking my daughter to see the ocean when life gets a bit much. Calms both of us down massively. We often picnic down here as the fields are well maintained and cared for. Just a great out door space
C. Y.
Good facilities, parking, we missed the mini train.
N. C.
This is just an amazing place to spend your time ,lovely play park for the kids ,cute little train rides, water front views, dog parks for walkies, cafe for refreshments, chapel to explore. Just fantastic!
G. M.
Lovely Hisoric place and so well kept. Great for dog walking and meeting other people or just wandering about and taking the views in
S. B.
Such a wonderful place to visit. Long scenic peaceful walks, sea view, historic buildings, on site barbecue areas and a cafe with very polite and attentive staff. Fantastic day out. Will definitely be visiting there again soon.
S. P.
One of my favourite places.... Lovely places to walk, some woodland, along the sea and there is a swamp area.... Also along the cemetery.... You can get takeaway drinks, snacks and hot food..... Play area for children and picnic areas
J. D.
Great place to go, plenty of space for everyone and there’s some a good selection of places to walk to. The only downside I’d say is the parking is a bit pricey. Good water views to down on the beach as well.
J.
A wonderful place for a day out.
For kids, a ride on the miniature steam train, runaround and play in the playground, explore the beautiful wood sculptures over at the Fair Ways Fairy Garden and then collect shells or dip toes in the Solent water.
The cafe is closed currently, but there's an icecream van and you can buy teas and coffees in the old hospital building.
Parking is reasonably priced, and the park is free entry, we were there for several hours on a Sunday and it cost £4.50 parking. Rides on the miniature steam train was just shy of £10 for x2 adults x1 child (under 2s are free).
C. M.
Big fan of this spot. Especially the view from the top of the Chapel. Lots to explore and a great walk down by the sea.
h. t.
Really lovely park spent the Jubilee Sunday here with my grandson. Lovely place for a picnic, there are a few places to eat and drink. Can also access a pebble beach and watch ships come and go.
S. P.
Lots of space for everyone to walk, run, play, can take a walk along the shoreline and just relax. Lots of dog walkers and children but such a large area it did not feel crowded, Such an historic site, it was nice to learn a little about it
H. M.
Unexpected trip and well worth it! Kids absolutely loved it. Parking is not cheap however if that's all your paying for a day out it's worth it! Take a picnic and enjoy ❤️
P. C.
Lovely place to go with your family. Plenty to do there. You've got the train, play ground, cafe, beach, barbecue area, and large open area of grass. The downside is what they charge for parking. Too expensive for what's going on at the moment.
C. B.
Nice park, great for the dog as it has a beach right across from fields. Also has some little woodland walks, cafe and dog wash. Car parking a little pricey but otherwise very good.
J. W.
Large recreational park with lots of space for groups and families to enjoy themselves. Fascinating remnant of military hospital in very good condition. Tours inside are very interesting. Good visitor centre for information and snacks.
Beautiful military cemetery, immaculately maintained by the Wargraves Commission. No problem to spend a day here.
k. f.
Lovely place to visit and lots to do for the whole family. Highly recommend a visit you won't be disappointed.
W. J. L.
Beautiful country park with lots of personal and general history behind it; see where the D-day fleet amassed, and where the decommissioned Royal Victoria military hospital site was, of which only the central tower remains. Strangely enough, this park always brings up memories of the Command and Conquer/Red Alert video games for me.
Also come enjoy the natural surroundings of green trees, and the gentle breeze and fantastic views of the Southampton waters leading out into the ocean!
I've cycled, ran, and walked through this park for almost 2 decades now; many years as my daily cycle commute to my Hamble work place, some years for the weekly Saturday morning Park Run, and many more years/trips just to enjoy the park. Every journey to this park is a nostalgic adventure for me :)
D. L.
Beautiful, wide-open spaces. Great for children to run around. You can walk along Southampton Water and let your dog go for a paddle. The downside is the view looks across to the refineries at Fawley but you can watch ships and boats coming / going from the Port of Southampton. The park has a little train as well as the chapel of the Victorian hospital that is now a museum. Parking is expensive: £2 an hour, but there are a few free spaces on-street just before the entrance.
C. S.
Loved it especially the train ride! Will be back in the summer!!
J. B.
Great for a woodland walk or for running. You can also walk along the shore. There is a cafe and toilets on site. The only issue is the expensive parking. There is some free on road parking out the park if you are prepared to walk a little
G. J.
Lovely place making special memories with family.
S. T.
Great park with lots of history. Enjoyed our family visit to the park. We went to the play area and the chapel with some lovely walks in between. We enjoyed an ice cream from the vans on site too.
J. M.
Beautiful stunning place to get away from the dull day to day life. Kids loved it and so did the adults a great day out and free entry!
N. H.
Nice in the sun. But can get busy. Noisy around the kids play areas.
Beach area a bit bug ridden; Don't wear yellow they go mental for it.
It's a bit of a hike to find a working parking payment machine sometimes, and no Indication of where the next nearest one is from the broken one.
Note:The ice-cream vans do not do soft serve/whippy cones. I did a grown up man pouty-lip sad face.
Tea from the cafe in the Chaple was nice.
M. G.
Great place to visit, dogs love it, park area, shore, and the history of the place.
s. s.
I love this place! I think it is very beautiful and a good day out- there is 2 play parks for little kids and fields for dog walkers, woodland paths for cyclists and just generally many fun things to do! It is also next to the water meaning there is a sailing club which holds many activities on the water. Not too mention there is also a cafe, shop, 2 car parks, the renovated Chapel which is just beautiful and very stunning.
L. C.
Large open spaces, beach and woodland walks. Lovely views ovet Southampton Water
P. W.
It was a good place to walk to and around. The facilities were basic but clean. We didn't take the car but it was very expensive to park on site.
J. M.
Beautiful place had a lovely time meeting new people at the dolphin motor home weekend there got some good advice from fellow motor homers . The park it's self is lovely great for walkers , dog walkers , family's, historical interests , the forces interests . The camping field is lovely with drinking water taps , there is toilets and showers but very basic and not very kept up together like it's been vandalized. A few annoying local kids making a neucence of themselves shouting and banging late at night and recking the toilet block but apart from that it's a shame the original hospital isn't still there would of made an amazing museum but in all great place
V. P.
I love this park, lots of open space, playground for kids and beautiful views . Ideal to spend time with family and friends, cycle and walks.
W. J.
Great place to visit with plenty of parking though you may have to drive round a bit
N. B.
Lovely place with a beach, parkland areas and play park. For some reason today it was our 1st visit but it will not be a last.
You can also book a barbecue spots here.
There are toilets and a café. Entry is free but parking is not.
A. F.
Lovely and varied park with woods, museum on WW1 Hospital and by the sea. Lords of activities for the family and fantastic areas for having picnics. They also encourage families to do a 2 minute litter run providing all the tools needed to pick up plastics and other rubbish from the area.
A. S.
RVCP is a great place to visit for space. The woods, sea and parkland combined make for a great dayout. If you're coming by car check out the parking charges. They do say that the car parks fund the maintenance and development.
There's also a Saturday morning parkrun.
g.
I have been walking to the park from itchen bridge for a number of years, the people who volunteer there are very knowledgeable and charming.
The species of trees around the park are gorgeous and probably been there for a very long time, the Victorians knew how to make a statement.
S. T.
I revisited after 20 years and am impressed with the changes made and the history of the hospital now being promoted. It is a beautiful place to walk, relax and look out over Southampton water and is extremely child and dog friendly.. A good cafe close to the playground and railway as well as a tea room next to the chapel. The cemetery is well looked after and is a poignant place to wander. A fallen cedar has been transformed into a magical castle and is a delight for old and young alike. A wonderful place.
S. M.
Great place for all the family. Fantastic play park for young children and lots of open space to run around etc. Plenty of parking. Great miniature train, which is reasonably priced. Nice views. Also a cafe and chapel exhibition, but not used, will next time.
D. V.
Visited on a very windy and rainy day, but the park has a lots of open green space to play or find a place to picnic. Views across the sea (to Southampton oil refinery), but you can sit on one of the many benches and watch the ships go past. The recently refurbished Chapel of the old hospital has a small but good exhibition showing what life was like for soldiers and nurses here during the first World War. Definitely worth a look round if you have time although children would probably be bored. You can pay to go up to the tower for good views on sunny days. There's also a children's railway open on the weekend which looks good. Also car park cost based on number plate entry time so you don't have to guess how long you'll stay. Overall worth a visit if you're in the area.
M. M.
New Fairy addition is beautiful and my daughter loved it. Only have to pay parking. Food in restaurant was delicious and good value for money. The childrens play areas are fantastic. We spent a whole day here easily. Parking was about five pounds. You can also take your dog and its easy for wheelchairs and buggies. Highly recommended.
M. T.
Royal Victoria country park.
Nice place to visit. Big open fields. Does get
busy pretty fast and the parking is kinda experience.
Decommissioned Royal Victoria military hospital site was, of which only the central tower remains.
playground for kids and beautiful views. Ideal to spend time with family and friends, cycle and walks etc
P. W.
Such a lovely park. Also the museum tells an amazing story of this important site. Such an important part of our history.
D. M.
Great place.one of our favourites 👌 just need take ticket machine easier to use .not tapping in number plate ect & keep cafe open longer & loos
..love the dog shower great idea .need more bins tho closed up ones to avoid flys ect
n. j.
very good day out for the family lots to do, lovely cafe hot chocs amazing😁 train ride and big park with zip wire lots of swings. had w lovely walk down by the sea front. a would recamend taking a kite and was open up warm.
G. C.
What a shame the Cafe is closed and only outside drink etc with NO shelter what so ever.Think they need to sort themselves out very poor effort for British Tourism. 08 05 22 The ticket machine for car park is difficult to operate several people having issues also the charges are somewhat over the top.Nice place to visit but for a normal family the fuel to get there the parking and lunch is prohibative
A. D.
We took our mum/mum in law to see the bluebells flowering in the woods. They were glorious and made a lady just shy of her 90th very happy.
A. R.
Fantastic place for family to organize picnic or just spend time together. Huge playground and cheap steam railway ride for kids. Nature around and access to the stones beach. Big car parks with ticket less opportunity to pay for it.
A. B.
Lovely place to walk your dogs. The refurbished coffee cafe is definitely an improvement. Staff very helpful & friendly.
A. S.
Stunning park never realized how big it was and how much a family can do there.Would definitely recommend it. Only Criticism I would have is the Gift shop is a bit of a let down..
H. P.
Good cafe and kids play ground here.
Great place to visit with so much history
Set on a huge green field you can have a picnic on and the stone beach on the Solent.
Little train going around the play ground for kids and adults.
Plus a free exhibition about the old war hospital that was on the grounds is definitely worth a visit.
Highly recommend a visit!
M. Z.
Really good place for some runing or for a walk. I am living near this place and going there 4 times per week. You have everything: water, green, fresh air :)
S. U.
Large country park with plenty of walks, play areas, miniature railway, cafe and Glamping I noticed. There is a carved display of figures to be found. Also remember the military cemetery at the far end of the park. Worth a visit at any time of year.
A. G.
A country park situated on the edge of Southampton Water on the land of the old historic military hospital, only which the Chapel still remains, a small admission fee to climb to the bell tower! The park is free to enter but pay to park.
A massive public area, a lovely place to walk, play or relax. Sit and watch all sorts of boats, big and small sailing on Southampton Water.
Have a picnic or hire a plot to have a family bbq. Watch a game of cricket or football. Visit the Chapel or walk up to the peaceful military cemetery.
Lots for children like a ride on the mini railway, an adventure park. Refreshments from the cafe where there are restrooms.
Recommend for all to visit, anytime of the year.
D. H.
Lovely picnic. Great music.. interesting place. Lovely park.
Well done
J. S.
Large open space with views of southampton water and boats. Good for picnicking and walking. Interesting history. The old military cemetery worth the walk pay parking and caf'e.
R.
Lovely place for picnic, overall great place but the only thing is the parking prices.
D. H.
Went for a walk and to shoot some photos 📸, great place, nice for walks, really close to the waterfront
L. D.
We have an annual parking pass for the country park as we come here almost every day to walk the dog. The beach, woodland, and fields make it excellent for dogs to burn off some energy. Ours has made friends with many of the regular dog walkers and their pups.
The country park is also great for a day out with or without a dog. It's good for history buffs with the hospital chapel museum reopened after a renovation. The war memorial cemetery is also worth a visit to pay your respects. The walk through the woods towards it is very pleasant.
I've been coming here since I was a child and there's even more to do now than when I was a kid. The play parks have expanded, there's a newly opened fairy garden carved from one of the old trees that needed to be felled, seasonal mini golf and inflatable activities, not to mention the classic mini railway which was always the highlight of a summer day out.
In short everyone can find something to do at RVCP.
C. W. T. C.
Love it here! Right by the water, loads of space and a great train. shame the Parking can seem pricy but it's worth it to keep the grounds looking good.
M. A.
Beautiful place for a nice long walk with the dog
Took grandchildren but would go back on our own
Lovely play areas clean toilets (shame about baby change facilities)
Plenty of benches for a sit down lots of picnic tables 2
Will definitely visit again
S. D.
I’ve always loved to visit - lovely scenery and features for all the family (and my dog). A little disappointed now after my daughter got injured at the park. This wasn’t caused by any aspect of the park but due to a dog lead wrapping my 5 year old daughters legs knocking her off her feet and causing substantial friction burns to the back of both her legs. We instantly headed to the information office/shop which was closed (refurb?) so we followed signs to the chapel. We managed to contact staff within the chapel at the moment they were closing who let us into the entrance to discuss what had happened to my daughter. While the staff (approx 4 of them) were kind they seemed confused navigating the first aid case. I specifically asked for cleaning wipes and asked for coverings to keep her wounds protected so my daughter could still attend the play apparatus and told them I would remove these once home so her burns could be cleaned and aired. My request was based on being First Aid trained and being responsible for a public venue myself where our kits are updated weekly. I was given cleaning wipes but unfortunately the first aid kit didn’t contain any wound coverings aside from small finger plasters. This should absolutely be addressed in anticipation of injury no-matter how frequent or infrequent. All first aid kits should contain a variety of gauze pad dressings either adhesive or not and medical tape. I saw neither of these today. It was an awkward encounter.
P. S.
very nice park with bbq areas that you can rent out. very good options for some outdoor party 🥳
f. i.
Do the Woolston and Hamble Rail Trail walk, some place a bit muddy as heavy rain before but so far is enjoyable. Having different scenery and historical building also flat road. Nice and easy trail. The park was big enough and have pretty sunset yesterday.
K. W.
Lovely few hours. Kids loved the parks and the train. Shame tea rooms not open yet. Great place for day out. Take a picnic. Lots of open space
K. C.
A great park, with extensive trails to walk or gravelled paths if it’s raining. A great play park for kids, as well as a delightful cafe by the old chapel. The cafe has loads of picnic tables in front of it, with views over Southampton water; a great place to end your dog walk.
The cafe deserves a mention as it has a decent range of food options, including a nice steak pasty and very decent vegan pasty & sausage roll too. The drinks were pretty good as well - the hot chocolate actually a decent one too, which was a pleasant surprise; perfect for an autumnal lunch.
G. S.
Lovely park with a delightful mini train and play park. Great for young families
b. b.
Amazing day out. Beautiful place to go with the kids , dogs or just for a walk
M. P.
Great place , love the whole park area and walking along the shoreline
L. F.
Everything you could want: sea, incredible play park, mini train, lovely grounds to walk in, museum, sea (pebble beach), wooden carvings that can be climbed on. In the summer- ice cream vans, inflatable assault course and trampolines. Little kiosk at the moment whilst cafe is renovated.
W. B.
Love it here. Just around the corner from me. Always like walking or running round the park and doing the park run on Saturday morning. Great being by the water. The cafe is nice too.
t. s.
Wether it's just a walk, exercise, a love of nature, a love of the sea, a glimpse of history, refreshments or a child's play area this has it all and more. Woodland walks, open spaces, a military cemetery, miniature railway and BBQ facilties.
C. R.
The perfect place for a day out.
A. G. U.
Great, quiet place. Lots of families around. A few plaques around the park depicting the history of this place.
H. H.
Victoria park is an absolutely lovely place, but, parking fees are expensive, food is expensive, its right next to a factory (on the other side of the beach) but it is pretty nice, I don't think it deserves a full 5 star review though.
Z.
Nice place for playground, chilling with family, kids, friends, windsurfing and ecc.
B. E.
Regular visitor, always love it here. Interesting history and great area for the kids. Train runs at peak times.
D. P.
Lots to do... Great park for children, woodland, beach, train ride. We always have a great time here.
A. D.
Excellent and relaxing place for familys and lots of activities for the children to do
J. D.
This park is decent. The play area has been upgraded & the miniature railway goes down well with the kids. A good cafe plus a hub in the Chapel! Parking ain't cheap but is in line with most Hampshire park which they appear to have reinvented! Great family park!
E. A.
Lovely place for families and there is a dogs wash unit 🤗 so you don't take back home your little friend with extra mud.
P. “. K.
Great location for families, abundance of outdoor space for children to be children. Lots of green space to put up gazebos, pop up tents, have bbq on the beach, climb trees. Great outdoor space and freedom. Plenty of parking and you have to pay for parking. We were there approximately 4 hrs and paid £5. App to pay was bot working so queues for payment were long. Limited locations to pay.
K. B.
Good place for walks, picnic or just relax. Inside the park is little caf where you can buy drink and food. Worth visiting.
L. 2.
Nice place to visit for some fresh air and to walk the dog (if you have one!)
A. D. R.
Nice place for a walk, or to pass by in your cycle. The sea is amazing, a pity there's no proper beach and in front there are industrial estates on the new forest side
N.
Always enjoy visiting Royal Victoria. It’s a good place to go for a walk or cycle in the evenings and the recently renovated Chapel is worth a visit. The park is big so it never feels busy even during the height of summer.
k. s.
Great place to walkabout or have a picnic plenty to do and see
K. H.
Everything you need for an inexpensive day out. The parking is expensive but it pays for the upkeep of the park remember.
a.
Beautiful stretch of greenery that is easy to access from nearby train stations, bus routes. Avoid going if you are driving though, as the parking charges are a tad ridiculous. The park also has gorgeous views of the solent and a cute little cafe within the old chapel. If you like a bit of history this is definitely a cool place to visit.
K. S.
Beautifull place with amazing views. There is really nie playground for children
J. M.
Walked from Woolston in the sun stopped at Royal Victoria Country Park for a coffee then walked back. Must say very nice coffee. Fab park, great for families.
D. B.
Best park on the south coast beautiful natural suroundings 👍
N. E.
Great fun even in the pouring rain. Fantastic playgrounds.
C. B.
Had a really good day here as we had a birthday picnic. Really good weather and lots of walking so picturesque which made it a great day out.
J. H.
Beautiful views and great ice creams. Perfect for a hot sunny day and a paddle to cool down. Good value parking too with £5 for all day
T. S.
Brothers wedding there. Amazing staff, great venue, 100% reccomend.
G. C.
Great sized park plenty of room for sports with nice views of Southampton water and the Isle of Wight
j. H.
Lovely park, pay by card parking bit pricey, but well worth it
S. S.
Great place to spend time. BBQ area .. train..More signage needed for woodland walks.
T. W.
We had a great time. We found a man who was bloodied and confused. When we realised he was one of the actors we just chucked him in the sea.
C. W.
One of my favourite places around Southampton. Been coming here for years. The War graves in the cemetery are a must see.

Lovely old hospital remnants to be seen. A great history lesson for all who visit. Peaceful restful with a great historical story.
Take you're dog 🐕 if you have one, sometimes they let the dogs drive the train especially when it's the dogs birthday. Woof woof 🐕.
P. W.
Wonderful place to stroll, play, enjoy the sunshine or not alongside the Southampton waterway. The remains of the old hospital, the Chapel is in beautiful condition and now has its own cafe extension, plus the additional separate information areas about the hospital at the extremities of the site. Then we noticed the addition of a Fairy Garden in progress, can't wait to see what it'll look like when it's finished, but here's a photo to wet your appitite
T.
A great place to go, our kids love the play area and the Shingle beach was fantastic lots of shells to collect. Love the military hospital history.
a. g.
The machine for washing the pets (on the right of the coffee shop) is a brilliant idea! This Park is ideal for relaxing time for a walk.
A. &. M.
Beautiful place to visit on a sunny day , parking fees are reasonable if your staying a while, lots of space
S. C.
Really nice open areas without being too crowded. The grandchildren loved fairyland part. Strolled along the sea. Lovely little train ride. Plenty of space to play cricket, football and Frisbee. Plus the dog could have a good run round. Took the motorhome so we could have a picnic no height restrictions.
H. E.
Beautiful place. Something for everyone.
M. G.
A really great place to while away a few hours right beside Southampton Water. The Military Hospital is well worth a visit.
K. T.
Great venue for a full day outing. Lots of picnic and BBQ spots. Lots of activities to keep children busy. Dog friendly. Make sure to visit the museum too.
A. P.
Large open park with beach front access and some good children’s play areas. Could do with some better way finder signage when navigating the park.
C. C.
Brilliant place to go kids can run wild and a brilliant park
S. K.
Lovely peaceful walk in the park and enjoyed the exhibition too.
T. G. B.
Good safe place to walk dogs cycle or just enjoy surrounding sadly log cabin cafe taking to long to reopen
W. A.
Really really impressed by this park and I don't think on the day of our visit we saw all of it. We started off by having a ride on the railway then our children burnt off some steam in one of the play parks. (No pun intended as it was a diesel hauled train). Then we had a picnic down by the river whilst watching boats of different sizes entering/leaving Southampton. Make sure that you take cash as only the car park payment machines take cards.
M. W.
Very interesting and if you are into military history this is great place for it really needs a good day not the place to be if its weather
R. M.
Nice park with some good history. Plenty of space to meet up with friends, a good accessable play area and the train adds a bit more fun.
Only downside is the price of parking, I appreciate it goes back towards the upkeep but £7+ for an afternoon is a bit painful but it's that or risk parking outside and walk in
T. J.
Great big open space to run around in. Interesting history of the hospital etc. Small train that runs round the grounds, good for young kids
B. B.
Brilliant place. Toilets. Great scenery of the water/sea. Lots of people out walking their dogs but all friendly. It has a great play area for the kids and a train that runs on the weekends and summer at a reasonable price. I think there's a camp site and a site for caravans but I did not to use any of these types of facilities. Also there's a cafe and plenty of benches and places to sit.
P.
Absolutely wonderful. Just had a tour of the tower and walked the park. Throughly recommend
N. J.
Beautifully maintained. Great place for children and adults. Easy access to the shore too.
M. B.
We like it here, our three year old loves the play parks! Good walks, nice little train and it looks like they're currently refurbishing the cafe. The chapel is really interesting too. Top tip: don't pay to park, it's v. expensive - park along the road that leads up to main entrance. And pop to the lakes full of swans along there on your way in!
K. H.
A very nice place for picnicking and for family fun.
P. -.
Beautiful park area with fascinating history and information boards explaining around the place. Great for walks and cafe break. Parking is pay only unless park outside entrance and walk in although this is not always possible. Good place to picnic with good mix of sunny and shaded areas.
C. S.
Lovely green space with lots for children to do. There is a light railway, an adventure playground, lots of paths to walk and a tiny shingle beach along the foreshore where you can collect shells and watch the boats. A good day out.
L. f.
Been going for years! Such a beautiful place so lucky to have it in the doorstep just a shame the parking charges are so high!
S. W.
An lovely short visit to a place steeped in history....amazing
D.
Great place for a day out with the kids, or with friends, where you can have a nice picnic in the nature and enjoy the location and weather!
S. M.
Grandchildren loved walking around and playing football overlooking tbe river before moving on to the inflatable slides! The walkways and slide in the adventure playground was great fun, as was the trip on the train. Very good
K. W.
Great place for the whole family, so much to do any child will love it, whether they are 5 years old or 60 years old.
Dog walkers and their furry friends are welcome.
Have a coffee and a chat everyone is friendly and you'll make new friends. Staff are lovely and helpful.
Buy a yearly pass and save moneyon paying each time you visit.
You can even swim in the water the park has a green flag award.
A. G.
Nice walks around the grounds, or along the beachy front. Views of the refinery aren't great, but nothing much can be done about it. paths wide enough for people, dogs and bikes alike. Normal coffee shop undergoing repair, however refreshments available still plentiful and good quality
d. e.
Lovely area this always clean and tidy , great walks outlooks etc.
I. H.
Great place, fun play park for all ages. The cafe and visitor centre was being refurbished when we went, but the cafe in the tower was a more than adequate temporary replacement. Not 5 star as maybe could do with a few planned fun walking routes/trails with signs
J. C.
Nice walk. Went to the memorial cemetery for the first time. Very moving.
J. K.
Nice Park on the grounds of an old hospital. Large open green areas for game or just to catch the sun. There's some nice woods nearby if you prefer a walk. They also have a good playground for the children with a convenient cafe, shop and public toilets next to it. Parking on the grounds are not free with pay and display ticket machines dotted around. Parking can also get quite hectic on a hot weekend
16th April. Visited said cafe and feel like I've been mugged! 2 coffees, 2 small cans of chocolate milkshake and 3 muffins and £17.50 lighter! The coffees were regular sized too so highly suggest bringing your own food /drink.
S. S.
Great place for a walk or what ever you want.
Plenty of car parking space
There's almost always breeze coming off the sea.
s. h.
Great for a day. So much to do, lovely views over the solent.
D.
Fantastic place, there is a train you can pay to go on, there's a really nice park for the kids and a large grass area. There is also an amazing fairy castle cut from an old tree there is also a pebble beach.
T. H.
Lovely day out for the jubilee. Plenty of entertainment for children and adults.
N. G.
Lovely space to walk, play, walk dogs, fly kites. The cafe is great and the new ticket system works really well too. We love coming here often
M. D.
loads better than u remembered from my childhood even on a wet day. Kids loved the train everyone loved the cafe
C. B.
Lots of walks with signposts, plenty of benches if you need to rest, the Chapel is a great museum with the commonwealth Wargrave cemetery a short walk from the car park.
C. B.
Lots of parking, free toilets, lots of walking areas, very dog friendly, seaside! Playground. Little train! Icecream van! Cafe. What more do you need?
J. M.
Fantastic place, perfect way to watch this go by
P. W.
Fantastic walk with our dog even in the rain, feel its a shame we have to be charged so much for parking that aside loved it
m. s.
The Netley Hospital Museum is well worth a visit. The view from the tower is worth seeing. And who can resist a fairy castle.
R. W.
It was lovely such a shame museum wasn't open though
I. S.
I cycle through this park on my way to Portsmouth..stop by and have a cup of coffee...what a fresh air..
R. W.
By Southampton Water.. Good for walks and cycling or just watching the sunset. Tea rooms playgrounds and a train
D. C.
Beautiful park lots of history amazing views at night
G. S.
Lovely park, great amenities, lovely views and very well kept. Fun for all the family.
L.
Amazing place and full of countryside with footpaths to Hamble/warash
Part of the solent footpath to Portsmouth
M. M.
Amazing beauty spot, nice for a walk or picnic by the water. Great place for kids with nice and large playground and small train going around the park.
C. G.
Lovely space to walk in.
U can imagine how big the hospital was.. Just one part of building left now. 😁
M. G.
Beautiful place, play area for childrens, mini railway, I think it's the best park in Southampton. Highly recommended.
D. G.
Very nice place to have a picnic and spend 3 or 4 hours
A. R.
A great place fir walks cafes on site and a camping site
R. W.
I have been going here since a child. My parents now live there so great to visit. A lot of investment has taken place, the park is one of the best around.
A. B.
Fascinating exhibition in the chapel about the old war hospital.
Huge area so people can find their own space to relax. Nice single beach and plenty of trails.
W. S.
Always worth a visit. Big areas just to take a walk, play some sports and look at some ducks! The infirmary building is a sight sight see as well and it's one of the few places in southampton that you can enjoy the beach* Just be mindful of Paid parking though
A. L.
I Love It at The Chapel My Favorite Bit Of The Chapel is The Gallery to see the Pillars
A. T.
beautifull place well looked after, great piece of history. Helpfull staff
R. F.
Would be better if they had small pop up pizza vans, coffee shops and more toilets
L. C.
Lovely place. We went there on Friday 13th and then saw the appearance The Grey Lady. When you shine a torch the figure will disappear so get your camera out ready if you would like to see it. Highly recommend going at 11pm or later so the you can see the appearance of her. I also highly recommend bringing people in there 20s to 30s as younger people may be scared. In the top photo you can see the head of the Grey Lady. It was a scary thing as we was ghost hunting already.
R. M.
Royal Victoria Country Park sits on the site of the Old Royal Victoria Hospital. The park is on the shore of Southampton Water, it has wide open spaces, some. Wooded walks and a narrow gauge railway. The park is ideal for picnics and other family activities.
The park is free to use, however car parking will cost you between £5 & £9 and there a fee to ride the train.
The old hospital was closed in 1978 and was demolished some years later, all ta is left is the Chapel and a few rail tracks. The Chapel is now a information centre light refreshments can be bought here and there is toilet facilities available.
P. M.
Superb location stunning grounds to walk around. So many activities and wonderful cafe too
P. L.
Great place to let the kids run around or just go for a walk. Perfect in the summer with the breeze of the shore and the cafe for a coffee. Or bring a picnic and enjoy a place on the grass.
The car park machine takes wireless, so no need to stress about change for parking.
Bring on the summer again, kids love the little train ride too.
B. R.
Amazin place to walk and enjoy the waterside at the same time.
2 playground for kids, a cafe for a quick bite or an ice-cream.
Historical place from second world war too.
If you are visiting Southampton , a good outdoor place for a family time.
E. J.
Love it here, lots to see and do. 2 great parks, mini railway, fairy castle made from a tree, interactive Museum located in the world War I hospital building and clock Tower. Fields of grass to play on and the World War I graveyard and memorial. Lots of interesting information points with images about the hospital.2 cafes& toilets. Fields of grass to play on and the busy river to walk by and throw stones into as boats, ships and ferries going past. Not far Netley train station, Netley village with bakery, fish& chips& Co op. Plus the Beautoful ruins of Netley Abbey. The only negative is the expensive parking on site- £2.50 1 hr, 2 hrs £5 4 hours £7.
M. P.
Good place to go for a walk .
Dog friendly.
Nice small gauge railway. Friendly staff.
Decent play area for kids.
M. W.
Very pleasant Sunday afternoon spent in the great outdoors.
E. B.
Beautiful place, quiet and tranquil, they have a lovely cafe there
K. G.
Despite the rain took the girls to the park and for dinner. Wasn't busy which was nice. I wish there was more variety ie chilli con carne on jacket potatoes smaller burgers for children and chips/cheesy chips that you could share. The cheesy nachos were hard cold and rubbery sadly so didn't get eaten but the burger and the jacket potatoes were lovely. Would have been great for the girls having non bagged meals to also get crayons and some kind of paper/colouring paper for the price as they were frustrated and had eaten before the cooked meals arrived. Overall would go again and although not often due to cost was a nice treat.
S. L.
We enjoyed our stay over the weekend. Would come again in the future
H. D.
Love this open space! Sooo much history surrounding this country side too, which you can see some of ut in the museum there. The kids love the play area and cafe and of course the train!
H. H.
Always great, good scenery, good food, and well maintained.
A. M.
Good amount of parking, nice café. The museum is also very nice. You can get down to the beach from here. There are some lovely walks, and pretty & unusual children's play areas.
C. G.
The restored Chapel is a fantastic new museum and it's definitely worth paying for the tour of the tower
S. O.
We hired the train shed and had two rides on the train for my son's birthday. It was brilliant. Everyone love it. Highly recommend this and the two drivers were amazing and friendly.
J. D.
Beautiful lots of information about the site and old photos too.
S. P.
FAB place had a lovely walk with the dog load bigger then you think
G. D.
Amazing wood carvings lovely park . It's £2.20 for up to a hour or £6.00 all day . If you don't pay you can't get out the barrier
S. B.
Live walking around here, next time I come I want to find the graveyard
B. H.
A lovely coastal country park! There is a big playground which has equipment for both the littlies and the bigger kids. There are a few bits which would accommodate wheelchair users too. There is a little train to go on - cost just over £7 for 2 adults and 3 children (cash only). The kids loved it. There is a beach (pebbles), lots of grass to run about on, a bouncy castle (we didnt use this but from memory its a couple of ££ for 5/10 mins) a fairy garden, a cafe (we had coffee, cakes and icecream - all very nice) and plenty of places for walking. The loos are what you would expect at a country park. No entry fee, but you do pay to park.
We love it here - lots of variety!
e. w.
It was brilliant this is the edge of park what a great view
Fab play areas in a lovely park
G.
Parking is very expensive but it's s great park, and never too busy.
J. E.
Open space with lots of refreshments available. Something for everyone from kids to dog walkers.
L. L.
Nice place but the parking is ridiculously expensive
T. N.
Great for a long relaxing walk with your pooch.
Lots of open & secure areas to let them run
Be wary of the Sunday morning running groups and a few irresponsible dog owners with "unpredictable" & "reactive" dogs.
O. W.
Great place for pleasure, clean beautiful park. Perfect for day out
G. W.
My first visit and was blown away - literally 🙂 - but what an amazing site.
M. H.
Very nice on a hot sunny day.they have lits going on its got a cafe a picnic and bbq area be a very nice bike ride around the premises.
Royal Victoria Country Park is open including the Chapel (Wednesday to Sunday), the Chapel kiosk for takeaway food and drink, the reception, shop and toilets.
M. J.
Lovely place for a long walk with dogs and family. Lots of space to play ball games or have a picnic. The cafe is open during summer months, and there tends to be a few ice-cream trucks there too. There are a lot of walking trails off the main area, such as the war graves and a route down past the police training academy. Only downside is the cafe is usually shut when we go!
T. P.
Beautiful place steeped in History. Lovely walks for dogs and their pets 😁 Pebble beach with lots of shells- so careful with paws as these can prove very sharp. Plenty of information dotted around for those interested in the history of this beautiful tranquil place.
Best hot chocolate from cafe on site 😍
L. M.
Royal Victoria Country is a must for all whether it be a visit with your children, partner, pet or by yourself lovely view, either with a walk in the local forest or a walk down to the shoreline. Can't beat it on a sunny day or any day for that matter, there's a campsite on the surrounding area just a stones throw from the park itself. And if all that wasn't enough there's a great kids park, cafés and an historic Chapel that was used as a hospital during the war in the middle that has just been refurbished thanks to the national lottery fund which I think is a great thing to keep these nostalgic buildings and places for are kids in the future go see for yourself.
h.
Grassed wide open spaces for kids to play & dogs to run free. We'll kept clean & tidy. The beach right there to walk along & look out over the solent. Visitors centre & a bit of history with the old Chapel that has been restored from the old WW1 hospital. All in all a great day out.
S. D.
Although the weather was grim we really enjoyed our time here. lots of trees and paths to explore. Cafe good. Toilets clean. All one can expect from a really well managed park. Will visit again. We were a party aged from 11 to 74.
J. S.
Great place to come and stretch out on the grass while you have a picnic and read a book in the sun.
M.
This park has everything. A waterfront. Vast grassy spaces. Secluded woods to smoke in. A truly monumental war graveyard. Even historical indicators of the old hospital, packed with a plethora of information to be gobbled up. Even as a kid coming to Vicky Park I knew it was top tier. This isnt just any park, this is The Park. Hit me up for more information. What a park.
c.
A good open space by the estuary ideal for letting the kids play but let down by the very high parking charges. £2:50 per hour. No wonder people try and park outside the park.
Beware of the stupid diagonally placed speed bumps as they rock the car, even at 10 mph.
M. P.
Beautiful park on Southampton Water, great for walking, especially for dogs, and children to play games, nice cafe and outside seating, plenty of history surrounding the old royal Victoria hospital, you might get a view of the cruise ships heading out of the docks.
R. (.
We had a group meeting here as we'd all come out of lockdown. We still socially distanced. Good hot weather with a nice sea breeze, very refreshing and great views of Southampton water.
J. H.
Has been very very busy but calmed down over the last two days. Lovely place to walk and have picnics, when permitted. I have a season ticket as I walk my dog there and it soon pays for itself. If you use park regularly it would pay to get one.
N. G.
Pretty hard to fault if you’re looking for a day out. Especially perfect for families with young kids with the working trains, ice cream and easy access to toilets. Tons of space to run around or find a quiet spot.
The main thing is access to the estuary with a little beach full of nice shells where you get take a shallow dip or watch the cruise and car-carriers go by. It’s just lovely on a sunny day, but if the wind picks up hold onto your hat (and kids!).
P. R.
A lovely park with plenty to do - large grassy areas perfect for picnics, a stream train for the kids, a chapel, a cafe, clean toilets.. The only downside is the cost of parking. But it's well worth a visit and you can always park on the road and walk a bit further.
M.
Lovely walk here today. Really great place for a day out. Park is lovely for the kids and there's a bit of everything to keep everyone happy. Woods, big open space and even the beach. Plus the history here is fascinating with the chapel and the old military hospital and accompanying museum. We also took a stroll to the cemetery which is quite humbling and a really nice little spot in the woods. All in a great day and we will return. £5 parking for the day we felt was reasonable for a family of four for the day out.
N. W.
Lovely country park with access to the beach, woodland and open feilds. Bit of history to look at and a train for children.
Love the new dog wash by the tea room- then it's a gravel track back to the carpark.
As a local it is a shame to have to pay for somewhere I enjoyed for free... however I can really see that the park is getting some well earned TLC and refurbishment.
j. r.
Great place for kids. Tea room, play areas and train rides. Great views.
P. G.
Great open spaces by Southampton water. Can hire BBQ areas and has decent facilities on site. Parking is a little expensive but on the whole worth it.
R. H.
Lovely location for a quick walk and a nice coastal view.
J. J.
Good fields for the dogs although seems geared just towards camper vans, would be nice if one of the fields was exclusive as a dog park. People seem to walk straight through rather than using the path right next to it too.
j. g.
Great place for the family and for dogs. large open spaces with play park for children and a great miniature railway you can take a ride on and a cafe for refreshments. An amazing old chapel you can take a tour of and buy some souvenirs. Lots of on site parking but have to pay.
B. D.
Great walk around a part of the park in beautiful weather. Bright sunshine on the water and yachts tacking against the breeze. Thoroughly enjoyed a couple of hours in the fresh air. Recommended.
R. P.
Lovely park with plenty of space for games and picnics. Cafe, toilets play areas for children. Due to restrictions railway isn't running. Don't forget to see the dragon. There is also a pleasant walk to the memorial cemetery. Been lots of time's and will be coming back again. Only down side is the irresponsible people who just cast their litter aside.
N. F.
Good quality park, well maintained. Small train. Take cash, like physical hold it in your hand old school money Fantastic views across the water to Southampton's industrial coast. Tres Magnifique
A. Y.
This is a really nice place to visit with something for everyone. There is a park for the children, lots of walks to go on, some which are accessible for wheelchairs and buggys, and others that are a bit more uneven and feel more adventurous. There is a miniature railway offering train rides at the weekend and school holidays. There is a beach and the historical nature of the sight to explore with the chapel and lots of information boards around to discover more about the site.
My kids absolutely love the new fairy garden, which offers more adventurous climbing for older kids.
It is definitely a good place to visit for all ages
J. W.
Lovely place with lots to do. Great cafe, various play areas for the children. The train ride is only £1.75 per adult and £1.25 children.
There's a bouncy castle play area for a small charge and when we went there was crazy golf. The museum in the chapel is very interesting, it is all about the hospital and things that have taken place there over the years, and you can go upstairs for another couple of pound.
A lovely day out, right by the water and plenty of space to play games on the grass and have a picnic.
S. W.
The new park is really great. Kids can really find their independence on the various swings, slides and play equipment. The park is in a shaded tree area which is great for staying cool on the summer. I'd also highly recommend a trip on the mini railway! The kids loved it and it's relatively cheap too. Kids under 2 are free. Overall a lovely park to enjoy with the family!
P. S.
Beautiful country park with great resources, history, and views. Great family day out.
A. W.
Love it here. Great family place with lots of room..
C. C.
Great place for all the family, easy parking, cafe, toilets, kiddies play grounds, minature railway. Plenty of varied walks, great for the dogs, paved and woodland, fields and beach, every option covered here. Stay an hour with the dog or all day with the family, picnic and games. Even an automated dog bath for the furball that has had too much fun in the mud or on the beach.
S. H.
The play park is absolutely amazing, suitable for toddlers and big kids alike. Both my boys loved it. The little train is such good value for money and so much fun!! The beach is absolutely COVERED in seashells, living sea snails, tiny crabs, sea glass, and anemones. It's great for teaching children about sea life, and for collecting for crafts! Honestly such a brilliant place to spend a day.
K. S.
Brilliant place for dogs, children and adults. Lovely café,train for children and lots of history to learn about.good place for BBQs.
P.
Very nice palce for ride on bike or walkings
V. H.
An lovely park on the outskirts of Southampton, great for a walk or a family day out. Poignant war cemetery and history of hospital that used to stand on the site
b. B.
Great fun for children took our grandchildren. For day on train
J. C.
Great location for an afternoon out. Good views of the estuary, train rides are fun. The play park is large and varied with a nice little sensory garden. The cafe has a good selection but the queue can get long in the summer. Other activities are run over the summer months.
L. W.
Last Sunday 5 friends and I were able to book a guided tour of the military cemetery, lead by Owen Cawte a volunteer at the park. We all thoroughly enjoyed the morning and he was an excellent guide with good indepth knowledge. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend his services. Thank you Owen.
P. M.
Visit the Chapel to find out all the history about this beautiful country park
P. M.
A gem on the Solent. Lovely place to walk/swim the dogs.
P. O.
Excellent place for a family get together!
C. M.
Great outdoor space, and when we visited on Saturday (2nd January) was lovely to find Cafe open. Really well organised and plenty of choice. Staff friendly and helpful.
What ever the weather a great place to walk and watch any ships moving on the water.
I'm sure in time the big cruise ships will be back 😷.
W.
Lovely Walk in a lovely Park. This place has some interesting history tied to it and is well worth a visit. Plenty to do for the family, Great train ride for the youngsters and young at heart, nice cafe to have a cold or Hot drink and a snack. Car parking available (At a cost), we a very easy way to pay. All in all a nice day or half a day out. Dog Friendly as well so the Whole family can go, but remember your doggy bags!!
D. S.
Lovely place for a day out, plenty of green grass area to pitch up and have a picnic, beach area to enjoy the water. Did find a lack of food/drink facilities on site.
L. D.
Beautiful place with a great park run every weekend. Lovely cafe and lots of toilet facilities.
S. D.
Highly recommend this place, friendly for the whole family, with parks (including wheel chair access and equipment for all ages) A cafe with plenty of drinks and food, which can assist all allergy requirements.
Open fields, dog walking areas, jogging tracks, cycling routes, a train ride that brings you around the park and it is placed by the shore meening you can cool off and go for a dip in the hot weather!
J. S.
Touring caravan park.
BAD POINTS!!
you need rock pegs for awnings as building foundations were left in ground.
The water points flow is poor. There is large puddles by the water tap never addressed!
The road around park is poor wirh many pot holes.
GOOD POINTS.
Great place for walks, even wirh dogs.
Good playground for kids.
Open spaces for ball games.
Good cafe with inside outside seating.
Solent by side of park, plenty of BBQ areas but have to book.
Electronic barriers to enter and leave wirh timed charges for vehicles.
S. R.
Great place to go for a walk with your dog.
P. M.
A very diverse park with woods, a seafront, children's play area, cafe and even a miniature steam railway to take rides on in season. The cafe does great hot with marshmallows and cream.
B. M.
Great place to go for a day out with the family, plenty for kids to do and stay entertained. Lots of picnic benches as well as the open field to sit and have a picnic and play games. The museum is interesting for both adults and children, with interactive displays. The car park could do with some arrows to show the way around as it feels like you're driving through the woods, but otherwise a enjoyable day out. Definitely recommend
L. F.
Unreasonable the park is open until 9 pm, at this time of year, and the toilets were closed by 5 pm. No signs to advise when the facilities were closing so could not plan ahead. Baby change also closed. Car park expensive therefore should be able to afford to keep the toilets available all the time the park is open. Ruined the day as 40 minute drive home.
A. W.
Great place to visit and a good walk around the park
M. H.
Playground is very good, the kids love the train and the beach is great for shells, sea glass and other little treasures. Nice open green space and a walk too.
D. M. I.
We like this park - plenty of space, a bit of 'beach' next to the water, the cafe suits us for a light lunch, and the free Exhibition in the chapel was good. The new refreshments place and toilets next to the chapel looked good too.
M. S. (. P.
A lovely place to take a walk and learn about the history.
D. F.
A wonderful place to visit for the family and the dog! This place has it all. Lovely walks, large playing fields, kids playground, bwood sculptures and a sea view all topped of with a bit of history and a memorial area for a bit of reflection. The site has recently spent a lot of money on new facilities including a lovely coffee shop. A great day out for the family when the weather is nice.
J. W.
Great place to visit. Especially if your a rubber! Lots of mileage to cover. Took my dog and he loved the walk
Great little cafe! My son also loved the fairy garden which is incredible!
Parking charges not to bad either. Cheaper the longer you stay
Will definitely visit again!
L. H.
Great outdoor space to let kids burn off energy and walk our dog
c. b.
Lovely walk for the dog plenty off fresh air by the sea
D. W.
Expensive overflow car parking and no tea room. Otherwise Vicky P is an awesome scenic park with train, play parks, bbq areas, wooden sculptures, cricket, glamping, and historical information dotted around but no tea room and £5 parking. They made me sad today.
m. r.
Some lovely dog walks and things to do with the children. Open areas, a beach, cafe and playground.
L. S.
Great for families, loads for kids to do.
S. L.
Such a lovely place for a day out. There is plenty to do for children. Would recommend and will be coming back many more times whilst on holiday.
B. A.
Very interesting place and would like to explore more but were only there for a Rowing Regatta
B. D.
Great walk around a part of the park in beautiful weather. Bright sunshine on the water and yachts tacking against the breeze. Thoroughly enjoyed a couple of hours in the fresh air. Recommended.
B. P.
Great outdoor space with interesting history with the war graves and history of the hospital which once stood on this site. Car parks a little bit pricey.
R. P.
A lovely large place for people to wonder around and relax. Plenty of history around the area too, if you're interested.
C. G.
Lovely location with plenty to see and do
P. L.
Great place to let the kids run around or just go for a walk. Perfect in the summer with the breeze of the shore and the cafe for a coffee. Or bring a picnic and enjoy a place on the grass. …
M.
Wonderful place to visit, lots too do,plenty of stuff for kids of all ages.
Lots of interesting areas to visit.
N. S.
Nice day out if you like walks. nice for picnics and for kids to play. Need to pay for parking so that's puts the price up for a day out with the family. You can go into the museum for free kids would not be interested. Adults to know the history of why it was there. Went to pumpkin fair not worth the £5-00 just to get in.
R. C.
Although very popular and therefore parking at a premium there were plenty of off area parking in the trees. Cafe and patio area closed for safety but a takeaway facility available in the Chapel. The queue was horrendous during our visit !!! The cost of parking can be very expensive if you don't watch your time as you pay for each hour or part thereof.
N.
Very nice area love the plants!
M. R.
Great place to visit with or without family.
Woodland walks, coastline and lots of grass areas. Very clean and dog friendly
S. C.
Wonderful venue for kids of all ages. Great family friendly place. Plenty of space to play games as well as playgrounds, a train to ride on and a pleasant cafe and shop with lots of picnic tables.
It has the added attraction of being on Southampton Water so a short walk gives the benefit of a play on the stony beach with lots of ships, boats and ferries to watch too.
Two of our grandchildren aged 8 and 10 voted it 'The best Country Park ever'!!!
L. I.
We came down here for a picnic tea and a play.
We stayed for 3.5 hours, when went to pay the prices had gone up from the previous 2 weeks before!
The toilets closed before the park closed!
Would have been nice for more bins to put rubbish in!
And hand sanitizer outside the parks to use before and after use would be nice.
K. R.
Overrun by dog show and people involved not driving consideratly on what are normally paths.. cafe staff v friendly. Beautifully kept peace of natural beauty.
B. M.
A great place for a day out. Especially for the kids.
M. L.
Very spacious area of outstanding natural beauty which we have attended for live events and lovely walks. Car parking prices are a bit extortionate in my personal opinion. Kids however enjoyed the train and playparks and was a fantastic opportunity to visit the commonwealth war graves.
M. A.
Great place to visit. Lots of space and areas to walk in. Excellent for kids to enjoy and run off their excess energy.
A. C.
Excellent park with great facilities. A real life-line in lockdown. Parking not cheap, but think of it like an admission fee - it helps with the park's upkeep. The railway is run independently and is good fun - cash only though!
s. s.
Lovely place but bloody parking charges are scandalously high! Be warned.
All the County Council leisure parks are !
Don't mind paying £5 for the day not for the hour.
D. S.
Excellent green area for views across the water to Hythe. Great play area and train ride for the children. Don't leave without paying a visit to the graveyard. A wondrous place
J. S.
Lets get the one negative out the way and that is the outdoor seating area also allows smokers which I objet to. The park obviously doesn't encourage this as no ashtray are available but doesn't stop people wishing to smoke. So that's the negative dealt with this is a wonderful large park with various attractions you can have a beach side walk, forest walk, visit museum, miniature railway (weekends & some School Holidays). Lots for children to do good play area. The tree carving of dragon and castle that the kids can climb was brilliant.
J. M.
We booked one of the BBQ sites for a family birthday celebration. The staff were very accommodating to open up the area so we could park our vehicles on the site. This enabled easy access for a mobility scooter. The BBQ was clean as was the pinic area. Lots of open spaces for the children to play and the dogs safely roamed around. Every one remarked how beautiful the park and grounds were. A fantastic place to visit.
N. D.
A couple of nice playgrounds, lots of room to run, a miniature railway and also a beach which let's you see the cruise ships.....only marked down as parking a little pricey.
FYI - there is an building which used to be a hospital which is linked to Mary Seacole
C. B.
Fantastic place with lots to do if its sunny. The play areas are great and suitable for a variety of ages. Cafe is good with lots of outdoor seating and a fair amount inside too. Lovely place to take the kids and dogs. Even if its busy it's not too bad due to the large open areas
k. s.
Lovely place to walk with or without a dog
G. B.
A must to visit excellent place to take children
K. B.
I loved the Dog wash, so useful.
L.
Beautiful grounds with plenty of parking different little areas .
Two cafe's one near a car park and play area the other in the
Netley Hospital which has a lot of history.
Lots of walking trails and information on the area , walk down to the shore .
Picnic area and ice cream van .
Definitely worth a visit
J. W.
Well worth a visit historic and plenty to do for the kids
c.
Highly recommend this place for kids and adults, nice walks plenty of parks and forest ares for the kids to explore pristine shower/toilet block and free tea and coffee
J. B.
Brilliant place for dog walking , jogging, cycling or just walking. Lovely play park for the kids, close to the sea. The car park is number plate recognition. There is a cafe, a small tourist shop, beautiful chapel even a doggy shampoo machine!
C. S.
Great visit as ever. Lots of people but lots of space. Cafe open with outside seating and well organised queuing system. Only negative point was that the main toilets close at 5pm and there is no sign to tell you that. However there are other toilets in the camping groundvarea some of which seem to remain open. Miniature railway also running.
b. t.
Lots of space, grass, trees etc. I went to exercise the dog, who had a great time, and I'm sure the attractions I didn't get round to are as good as advertised.
M. B.
General - Nice nature reserve would recommend spending half - full day dogs welcome
Pros - Good sized cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Loads of information and history to be absorbed with knowledgable guides within the last remaining historical building. Great views would be loverly on a sunny day.
Cons - not so nice on a rainy / windy day
T. B.
Excellent day out for the family in a laid out area, usefully available for individual hire with camp tables, and a barbecue grill... Bring yourselves, food and drink and away you go! Good value, wonderful location, and you can enjoy a leisurely walk through the park down to Eastern edge of Southampton Water. As always the only variable is the English weather, but for us, luckily, the weather was fantastic with white fluffy clouds, blue sky, a lovely refreshing breeze and the shade of the trees if required, which made for a fantastic family day out... Highly recommended!
A. R.
Nice big park for kids to run around, several 'sections' of he park, some with bbq areas, great for a day trip with family & friends
s. s.
Love this place. We live about 10 miles away but will make the effort to drive here to walk our dogs.
The mixture of woodland and open spaces is perfect.
We also attend the caravan rallies held there in summer. Lovely to wake up in such beautiful surroundings.
Park is well kept and clean. Also has great facilities for families.
Would recommend a visit to everyone.
Well done Vicky Park and everyone who works there.
A. P. C.
Had been here twice or thrice. Large area for kids to have fun, cycling, jogging for adults. Nice view of Solent sea. Has a cafe too. Good place to walk along the beach.
J. H.
Beautiful venue, lots of work being done within the park to improve the experience too. A lovely miniature railway (it may be weekends only) lots of different levels of play areas for the kids, barbeque areas and a lovely cafe. Great for dogs too. Parking is £5 for the whole day, there is number plate recognition. Remember to pay at one of the pay stations before you leave as there is not an option to pay at the gate.
T. D. L. H.
My 3yo boy loved the train ride and the park is beautiful
R. P.
Lovely place with a great bbq
M. O.
This is a great woodland walk, with lots of history behind it. The hospital and then the grave yard holding soldiers served and lost in both wars and previous. Plenty of grass play areas and picnic spots. Alas, as it should be, NO random BBQ's, you can phone and book an allotted BBQ area c/w BBQ. Well worth a day or long period visit.
M.
Wonderful place to visit, lots too do,plenty of stuff for kids of all ages.
Lots of interesting areas to visit.
m. m.
Love it good there with the great niece, and our god son
J. L.
It's a amazing place with so much history and just makes you feel so lucky to be alive right now. But beautiful place go there yearly
T. M.
Great day out for family. With kids play park, woods, fields, shingle beach and somewhere to get coffee, can easily spend the day here.
L. A.
Lovely place to go especially if you want to go for a stroll with your dog or kids. The beach is stoney like the rest in the area so make sure to bring beach shoes if you want to dip your feet in! Be warned though that the ice-cream men sell their ice-cream at high prices due to demand.
N. F.
There was so much to do here the whole family loved it. Good quality tasty food at the café, plenty of things to keep the kids entertained. Bring beach shoes though as it's very painful on the feet. Lots of great shells to collect and fun watching the big ships pass by. Will definitely be returning.
G. L.
A fantastic place full of history and lovely walks through the woods all very accessible great staff lovely little cafe disabled toilets even a dog shower
C. H.
Can use mor lights for the evening
D. F.
Great place to take my boy to let of steam
P.
The Council tried to pull down the Chapel in their effort to eradicate the people's memory. Then they can build their dreary utopian collective on your clean formatted brain.
But the people rose up. There was a petition. There was National Lottery funding for a museum celebrating the medical treatment made for Heroes.
It is a beautiful building and a wonderfully interesting museum.
Thank you to the museum for respecting the people and not interfering with our past or trying to recreate our unique identities.
T. F.
Nice place for a Sunday walk
A. B.
Nice big park here, great for the kids with small cafe on site, slot of dog walkers here as well. Barrier as you go in so.it captures your reg plate pay before you leave £6 All day parking great for picnic, not sure BBQs are allowed did look like it when I was there.
K. P.
Lovely place for a cheap day out in the fresh air. Car parking around £3.50 for 2-3 hours. Very busy in the day we went but not a problem. Lovely little railway the highlight-dogs allowed. Staff all lovely. Did prices okay.
M. B.
I visited the Netley Royal Victoria Country Park on Tuesday the 16th of July 2019 with my wife as our granddaughter's preschool was having a fun day with all the children that are due to leave preschool this term and will be attending Infant School in September. It was a really lovely morning, with lots of fun activities for the children set in the park with Southampton water as a backdrop. The park has a plenty of open spaces for children to play and run around in, with a cafeteria on site and a small train which takes adults and children for a ride around the park. My only real criticism of the park hence only the 3 star rating is the excessive parking charges..
D. W.
Always a pleasure to walk around
Lovely views lots of history
Children and families seem to enjoy the grass areas
Cafe is excellent outside queueing and seating very safe
B. P.
Great outdoor space with interesting history with the war graves and history of the hospital which once stood on this site. Car parks a little bit pricey.
D. S. L.
This is a lovely park, with good views of Southampton Water, a reasonable cafe a decent play area for the young ones, and a miniature railway (which runs different trains during the weekend) it has small selection XC bike trails that can be slightly modified with out causing disruption to the land. And a great place to walk yourself and the dog (if you have on)
S. P.
A very picturesque and easily accessible Country Park with lots of activities on offer for families. It also has superb beach views of Southampton Water all the way from the Eastern Docks to the Solent.
A. S.
Plenty of walks and open spaces. Near to beach and woods.
A. S.
Fantastic place for walking the dog, chilling, running, picknick, BBQ or just enjoying some beautiful space.
I use this place all year round for walking the dog. there are so many ways to vary a walk that it makes every single visit a pleasure and different.
If you are in the area, go an experience everything that the Park has to offer.
R. W.
Beautiful park with excellent views of the water. The museum is really interesting, and for a small fee you can climb to the top of the tower, which is well worth it on a clear day, as the views are amazing! Nice cafés for a cuppa too.
S. H.
Beautiful place to just wander, rest and relax. Blow the cobwebs away on the shore line, enjoy a visit to the chapel, treat yourself to a ride on the miniature railway, thee choice is yours.
D. P.
Lovely place to visit.
Lots of wide open spaces, plenty of parking, good facilities (including toilets and a cafe) and also a playground for the kids.
It's by the coast so gets a lot of the weather (very sunny if it hot, very windy if it windy etc) but also has lots of wooded areas which can grant some shade etc.
P. P.
Always lovely there, grass well cut and virtually every one pick up after their dog which make it even more pleasant.
M. G.
Nice day out, ride on train, huge play park with different areas and fields for picnics and games. Parking is easy and the machines take card. View of the water and a small beach area by the waters edge.
Definitely worth a day trip and return visits for days out with the kids. Good cafe on site too
S. C.
Brilliant day out. Lots for the kids to do. Play areas, BBQ areas, ice cream vans, a gorgeous little small gauge railway, lots of space to play football/rounders etc and a lovely little strip of pebbly beach to cool down by. Also holds the museum if you fancy a bit of culture as well.
J. R.
Wow what an amazing place so many thought provoking memories in the museum and outside area but also a lovely place for families with children so much for them to do and see
S. M.
Lovely place, with very pretty views. Perfect for families young and old. My only criticism would the parking charges. I've not visited the park for some time, so was shocked at how much the prices have risen. I suppose if you made a day of it, then it's an inexpensive trip Out, but if you go for anything less, it can be expensive.
J. D.
Lovely family picnic plenty of space people were brilliant with social distancing , clean loos bit of pain queuing to pay to get out but all in all lovely place
E. F.
Great space available for all to relax. Really nice and clean play parks, dog walking areas and outside seating. Hand gel available all around the site and ample car parking areas too.
C. P.
Well looked after extensive grounds. Excellent museum in the chapel. Wonderful views from the top of the tower.
Lots of interesting events and activities.
Many opportunities to volunteer in a variety of roles.
H. N.
It is a great place and is beautiful when sunny. It is a great place to play or to just relax with a history because of the world war 2 hospital near the centre. Also if you prefer walks it has a nice forest with a walk to Hamble which is nearby to a river. It has a great playground for children with a cafe and shop next to it.
P. C.
Good park with plenty of play area for kids (mostly by visitors centre) but don't miss tree carving. Also good views of Southampton water and the cruise ships.
J. W.
Wonderful sunny day out while visiting family in Hilsea. Wonderful park .Amazing museum in the chapel finished of with great hot chocolate and lunch from covid safe cafe well worth the £4.50 to park all day .
N. S.
It's so beautiful loads to see and plenty of walking if you don't have a car. Definitely would recommend a day out to this place take the family and some games you won't be disappointed!
S. J.
Great place for the family, bbq pitches are few and far between... but nonetheless plenty of picnic spots, parks and other bits for the family
K.
Great place for adults and kids for days out, a couple of hours out or even just a walk. You have large play parks for kids of all ages and disabled people. The history of the place is really good which you can learn by signage as you go around the park, and you have what use to be a hospital back in war time which now the part that remains is a chapel section which you can go into to find out more about the history. The park sits right at the water front so you can walk along the beach area and if you like adventure you have surrounding woods with walk ways that take you around the park. There's a small train ride that takes you around the park aswell. Its the perfect place for picnics and you have a cafe in the park by the kids play area if you want to buy food and drink. Great place to walk dogs aswell, so you can spend as long as you want down there with plenty to do and parking is available inside the park and out.
P. G. (.
First visit, amazing and the scenery and so close to Southampton Water, the Chapel a reminder of the part it played during WW1 along with the hospital no longer here, worth a visit there is a car park reasonable charges, thank you.
k. p.
Lovely park and great walks. BBQs available to hire but unfortunately no areas to bring your own. Good kids play area, cafe, miniature railway and facilities. Will go back again with a picnic 😊
D. F.
Lovely as usual. A little busy but there's enough space. Occasionally harassed by dogs off of the lead while picnicking which was a little annoying
J. J.
Lovely park Cafe was open thankfully, sunny day, quite busy, but once again people not picking up after dogs a problem.
They walk on with the dog off the lead so they can't see what the dog is doing behind them.
PICK IT UP I don't want to share your dog mess!!!
J. W.
Visited on cloudy August Bank holiday Monday. Arrived 11am and got a car park space easily. Dogs can run free mostly although roads leading to car parks criss cross the park. Dog bins a little sparse and a bit full but not too bad. All in all a nice place to take dogs and plenty of space for everyone. Ice cream vans were a welcome sight as well.
H. W.
I'm very sorry I didn't mean to put only 1 star rating! Must have been a glitch! It's a great place to go for any season and for any age group which we do frequently! I love the Chapel renovations and wish more people would get to visit the park and see the local history. When we have any visitors we always come to see the area because of its beautiful sea views and gorgeous scenary. My granddaughters love it too for the parks, the train and the playgrounds! Thank you for giving us a great place to visit on our doorstep. Keep up the good work.
j. m.
Family picnic here, lovely sunny day. Went on the children's train , and up the old wartime hospital tower and rang the bell. Love being there, right by the water. Also 2 cafes on site, one at the entrance & the other in where the hospital war museum is. There are private places for family birthdays too, at a cost.
J. H.
Love walking around this area, still possible to make out where the old hospital once stood. Useful information areas dotted around with the history of the area on it.
a. c.
We took our grandson and the dog here today and it was fabulous, great parks for the grandson and open fields to run around and keep the dog happy. Train ride was fun and nice snacks and coffee in the cafe.
A. J.
Great place, large open space with loads of different areas to go to, good for walking round, running and cycling
Great place for picnics and you can book a bar-b-que area. There is parking but check the price on line or park further down the road.
M. W.
Lovely place to go for a walk! Plenty to do for all the family, has large open spaces or secluded wooded areas. There is a kids playground, a tea room selling hot / cold drinks and food, a miniature railway and a beach front. Has a fair bit if WW1 and WW2 history as it was the site of a hospital for injured troops in WW1, there is a military graveyard at the back of the park (well worth a visit). Very popular with families and dog walkers. Close to Netley railway station and public transport.
M. H.
Another great day out for the children
p. d.
Not very well signposted, easy to end up at the wrong entrance ... which may be shut!
L. W.
Beautiful park for a family day out. They are always making improvements. Love the new fairy garden and of course the train. The play park and cafe are fun and inviting. Super ice cream!
V. G.
My favourite place to chill out !
S. K.
Beautiful clean tranquil park.
D. H.
I have been visiting Royal Victoria Country Park for years and still visit most Saturdays for Parkrun. The car park is expensive though, I now park in Hamble and walk through.
N. R.
Lovely park. Great wartime hospital history. You used to have to search for it but they are doing up the main building for that now. 2 tea rooms, ice cream vans. Miniature railway. Dog and child friendly. Plenty of space. And very interesting views of the solent. Showing the surprising diverse and busy waterway.
S. P.
Lovely area to go for a walk, with plenty of routes around to change it up a little, plus a fascinating military cemetery and good views out over the water.
J. C.
A lovely park, plenty of space for children to unwind; with parks, a volenteer run minature railway (weekends only as well as on some other occasions, not 100% sure) & plenty of open feilds. There is even a little beach area. The parking is automated and works rather well, with plenty of space, though no spaces actually marked out. Though the parking can be a tad pricey, if you're spending the day there it is worth it really.
T. &. W. P.
Beautiful space and relax atmosphere. The cafe is brilliant and so reasonably priced. There are so many places to explore, the park feels safe and well looked after.
k. m.
Great days out down here. Open spaces always clean. Cafe isn't over priced, got a train railway down for the kids and big play park also. Always love a good walk and day out down Victoria park
G. M.
a lovely place for dog walking. Enough space for everyone and always something nice to see. Great views across the water
m. w.
Beautiful park with a dose of history in the hospital and Tower. Massive green areas with lots of parking. Parking is not free though 3.50 for 2 hours, it's worth it though. Great for dogs, and ship spotters.
S. C.
Fantastic place for families with young and not so young children. Nice cafe. The beach isn't great . But good for walking dogs. Lots of play areas. Plenty of space for picnics.Barbecue areasdesignated. There is a path from top car park that leads to a wartime cemetery. 1st world war. . Also one can walk from there into hamble.
D. R.
Lovely place for walking enjoying the scenery. A nice café with outside seating to enjoy a snack. Plenty of history connection especially the cemetery a lovely quiet and relaxing place to sit a while.Well worth a visit.
P. B.
Great country park with the oringial war hospital chapel atill open. Lots of history to read about in the Park.
Plenty of walks, runs in a very scenic area, you got fields, beach, woods all on the same grounds.
Make sure you check out the war cemetery.
E. E.
Stunning country park with sites and facilities to satisfy anyone who visits. The central Chapel is lovely. Will visit again!
B. D.
Had a lovely bike ride through Victoria country park 🚴🏻♀️
L. W.
Very impressed with the park. Great for families and has such a history and great feeling of well neing
J. G.
Mini railways, seaside, woodland country paths and the kids park and stump sculptures are all fantastic. Ideal day out with a picnic or make use of the BBQ areas.
P. C.
Beautiful park with lots of space to walk and relax. Dog friendly. Views accross the Solent and a lovely chapel; the last part of the WWII hospital standing. Free to enter, just pay for parking. Well worth a visit.
S. D.
Great place to walk with views of the Solent. Lots of open space, good for kids and has a mini train which is fun.
c. c.
What a beautiful place, had a lovely walk and picnic, lots of dog walkers. The history of the place is explained on podiums and it was really interesting, lovely cafe, bit pricey but ice creams were a treat.
