R. F.This place is awesome. Looks like a traditional pub from the outside, but it is actually an upscale restaurant, serving fine food and with excellent service. We had several amazing dishes and loved everything. Heartily recommended. We didn't stay here, but the rooms looked lovely.

K. W.From the moment we arrived the staff were extremely attentive. We asked to sit outside due to it being a nice sunny day and nothing was too much for the staff. They moved our table setting to outside and assured we had everything we needed for our one year old little girl. The food was amazing, cannot fault any of the dishes we had. Even the risotto from the children's menu was presented beautifully and tasted amazing.
The staff even attended to our 3yr old lab, Barley. Making sure she had enough water on a hot day and lots of biscuit treats. We decided to share a sundae between the 3 of us and again the presentation was exceptional and the taste even better! At the end of our visit, one of the staff members gifted our little girl with a Wensleydale heifer soft toy which has been a hit for both our baby and dog! A visit to the dales is always special to us as it is our wedding spot from 3 years ago. We will definitely be back to the Wensleydale Heifer for future special occasions. 5 star service, I only marked the rooms as 1 star as we have not stayed in one of the rooms yet so unable to comment. Location very central and good for us when passing through to other spots in the dales.

k. S.Stayed just one night, en route from a trip North. The staff were really lovely. Dinner was amazing, starting with Oysters and the most amazing steaks. No room for dessert this time but they looked really good. The room was very clean, the bathroom and amenities were excellent. We stayed in the Hiefer room which had a starlight ceiling which we kept on all night. The breakfast was really good.
All in all, this was the first but most definitely not the last time we will stay here. We're already planning the next excuse to travel up. A must stay or evening meal in the Dales. Beautiful.

R. P.What a lovely country hotel in the heart of Wensleydale. Totally dog friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very well presented, with a number of themed rooms.
The food is superb and reflects a very talented chef, behind the scene. We had fish and chips, but this was truly 5 stars. Cooked to perfection with accompanying reminders of my childhood, scraps, and curry sauce. The quirky theme runs through to the plates decorated like traditional newspaper.
How the Michelin team seem to have missed this place, I simply do not understand.
G. P.We went to the Wensleydale Heifer for dinner 4 years ago and the fish pancake was amazing. Managed to go back today, this time with our dog, my mother in law and our 14 month old daughter. I had the fish pie pancake again and it was as delicious as always. Everyone was really welcoming to both the dog and our toddler and didn’t mind her wandering around. Fabulous place
S. M.A group of eight of us booked the overnight gourmet package to celebrate a friend's 80th. From the minute I contacted the WH, Dee could not have been more helpful and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We all felt very special from the moment we arrived. It was lovely to have coffee by the fire while we all gathered and then David - co-owner and chef extraordinaire - came to meet us and discuss our foodie likes and dislikes so he could design a menu for us for the evening meal. We then had a glass of fizz and some delicious tapas for lunch. Then to our rooms which were all excellent - loved the themes and all the little details. Wine tasting with the brilliant Vincent followed - hugely entertaining and informative - what he doesn't know about wine isn't worth knowing. Dinner was exceptional and the staff were super friendly and efficient. Breakfast the next day was also delicious. All in all a wonderful experience which I would highly recommend and which we will definitely repeat.

Friendly staff on arrival and our room was lovely and cool due to air conditioning that actually worked well (we came in the middle of a heatwave). Loved all the chocolate in the room, certainly made me smile.
The room was comfortable and the bathroom was spectacular.
The evening meal was lovely with friendly staff who were attentive but not overly so, they got it just right.
Breakfast was also lovely.

My wife and I have stayed many times, we are always welcomed back, treated like honoured guests, made to feel individually special.

The food is "modern British" style but absolutely the best we've had since we moved here a year ago. Really well prepared and delicious!

I requested if I could bring me dogs which wasn't a problem for them,
when we got there they asked straight away where me dogs were ( made booking a month earlier )

just the little touches .
the service was absolutely amazing what it should be like everywhere.

this place is an absolute gem , yes it is pricey, however you absolutely do get what you pay for and I wouldn't mind paying more for such a sumptuous meal

C.Staying locally for a few days and have just got back from here celebrating the Mrs 40th.
We arrived and there was a birthday card and balloon on our table for her, we have a 1yr old and she was presented with a cuddly toy cow. I’ve never been greeted like that before.
The food was exceptional.. I had the cote de boeuf and it was unreal! Everything you’d want from a steak and more. The desserts that came out of the kitchen looked sensational.
Every one of the staff were friendly and informed.. they make sure you’re comfortable, happy and full! The baby was treated like a little superstar.
I’ve eaten at 4 different Michelin star restaurants and this was as good but with better friendlier and more accommodating service. I’m gutted this restaurant is on the other side of the country to me or it would become a regular for us!

Good service and all the food came out hot and beautifully plated. The desserts are a must have. Their in-house pastry chef serves them up like a piece of art. Great selection of wines as well and they have non alcoholic beer options too.

R. S.Came for lunch with two adults, an almost-2-year-old and a large dog. We noted on the booking that we would have a toddler and dog and were seated appropriately (I think in the bar area) which was really cosy. The staff all went out of their way to make us feel welcome with both toddler and dog; we were greeted and served so warmly. Little touches like cow-themed children's cutlery, a colouring sheet and crayons, dog treats, a functioning high chair and quick service so our toddler wasn't bored all made such a difference.
The food was great and well priced for the lunchtime fixed price menu, we would love to come back (maybe adults only) for an evening meal sometime.

On a serious note I took my mum, daughter and brother for lunch. Mum is paralysed in a wheelchair. They gave us a great table and had already removed the chair as she cannot transfer! H. D.One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms, each with different themes, were exciting and cosy and brought a real difference to elevate the stay. The staff were outstanding and went above and beyond to create a memorable experience.
We stayed in the chocolate suite, and asked if they had something for the bath. We were amazed that one of the staff members’ partners makes Bath Fizz, and it was absolutely delightful.
It’s well worth a special trip, and we would love to come back.

From initial booking through to after dinner drinks the welcome,service and quality of food was truly fantastic.
The Heifer team certainly went above and beyond and was a pleasant surprise for my wife to revive a birthday card and balloon from the Heifer team on our arrival.
Choice of food was vast with us opting for steak and chicken dishes which were cooked and finished perfectly.
Do leave room for pudding also as they were epic!
A. M.Little creatures room is v nice with 2 armchairs in a little seating area away from bedroom. Quality furniture and good bed. Only problem is the extractor for the kitchen is on that side and it's a disturbance. The food is fine but a large proportion of the menu is too rich for me. Staff very pleasant
H. W.What an amazing place with amazing staff to match. We came here for a small wedding party and they went above and beyond to make our special day truly wonderful. From decorating the snug, to complimentary glasses of champagne for me and my groom but the most treasured gift was that of a lovely plush wensleydale cow toy for our 3yr old daughter. What a lovely gesture, she absolutely adores it and has named her Mirabelle (Encanto fan!). The food was outstanding and the service faultless. We will definitely be back. M. G.The food was delicious no complaints. The service on the other hand wasn't so good. We were told to wait in the lounge where we were given a menu and forgotten about . No one came to take order .Our booking was for 6pm so at 6.10 we went to the bar to see what was happening. To be told oh sorry we're busy at the bar. A few minutes later we were shown to our table. The other couple there who had been there for 30 minutes waiting eventually walked out.we were served warm bread . Delicious no complaints. A young girl came through with our mains but our table hadn't been cleared so she had to take it back and someone then came to clear the table so she could serve our mains . We certainly won't go again although the food was first class.
M. R.This is one of the the Yorkshire Dales gems. Located in a pretty dales village it's definitely worth taking out some time for a visit. Whether you're looking for a quick pint, some lunch or the fine dining experience you're sure to be satisfied.
The staff are excellent and very friendly. We stayed overnight with a dinner, bed and breakfast package. The food and service were excellent.
Where my wife and I were a little disappointed was in the rooms. Each room is themed and on the whole they are comfortable and we'll equipped. Where we felt they felt short is that theme only worked to a limited extent. Some of the themed decoration seemed and appeared a little underwhelming. Notwithstanding this, they are comfortable but in terms of value... Questionable.
Would we go back? Absolutely but probably not on an accomodation basis; it's just too expensive for what it is. We would probably stay elsewhere and dine at the pub. It should be on your bucket list as a place for food but the accomodation is in our opinion overpriced.
N. B.Just perfect. We came Once again for our anniversary as we were staying in the local farm yurt. Nothing has changed apart from the usual full attention to detail, staff pleasant professional and attentive attitude, exceptional food quality, clean and relaxed atmosphere. K. L.Well i must be truthfully honest on this one. I have always wanted to try this place but its welk out of my pocket, however i got bought a voucher for my Birthday last year 2021. So yesterday Saturday 8th Jan 2022 i went for lunch i took my very dear friend along for the experience. After parking in the carpark and not on the street and arriving at front of housebrhe door was opened by a very welcoming young women. We were seated by the fire in a lovely cosy room. Coffee and tea were ordered as we were early. Within time we were shown to our seats in the restaurant again a cosy little room, complimentary bread was waiting then our meal arrived. My friend had the seafood pancake and i the Fish and chips, both delicious. Up to this point we had been met and spoken to by smiling polite and accomodating staff. No one through the course of our meal came to ask if everything was ok or if we would like anything, to which i thought a little odd. But we had obviously noted 5/6 tables in the resaurant where we were seated was full. When we had eaten and finished our drinks i asked for our bill to which a member of staff went off to get it came back and quite firmly put it on the table and went without saying a word. My friend and i were well presented and well mannerd diners, this was such a special treat to eat there as it has excellent reviews, but i personally left feeling a little deflated and dissapointed. Now im not sure if it was because things had got busier or not but surely everyone should have a memerable visit. This is a honest review. I hope it doesn't put anyone from trying the Wensleydale Heiffer.

J. C.Have visited the Heifer twice now..We live 3 hours away! First discovered on a walking holiday we did in Yorkshire couple years ago. Then revisited a couple weeks ago on our journey back to Leicester from Scotland.
Amazing food, staff, and atmosphere.
Extremely dog friendly also! Incredible to be able to have a fantastic meal and take your fury friend with you! (Dining is separated it seems for guests with dogs but the experience is still the same, we've dined with and without our dog)
K. M. L.Surprised to find VAT added after the bill. Very unusual for the UK as usually VAT already in the price.
Accomodation- bit disappointing. A lot of traffic noise if you open your windows. Sheets were a bit rough and room dusty. Stairs to room steep and dirty.
Restaurant- overpriced restaurant for its cooking. Steak excellent but pricey especially as the price did not include VAT. Other dishes need to be more refined for the prices charged.
The fresh fruit salad at breakfast looked a few days old so didn't touch

F. A.We stayed in the 'night at the movies room' which was beautiful. There was homemade shortbread in the room and popcorn snacks which was a lovely touch. They even provided fresh milk in the mini fridge which was a big tick from us.
However what did let our stay down, when we arrived (early I admit) there was no room in the car park, I rang the hotel to ask if all guests from the previous night had checked out, I received a patronising response related to that's why guests are asked not to arrive before 3pm. We had travelled from Cumbria and wanted to explore the area.
The Blu-ray/dvd player remote didn't seem to work and buzzed loudly, so we weren't able to watch any films, we had to check out early in the morning and therefore missed breakfast, there was no staff able to check us out at 7am so I rang as soon as we got home to pay the balance (the room total was £220) the receptionist seemed only interested in my card details and did not ask if everything was ok in the room and if we enjoyed our stay. It is safe to say we will not be returning to the Wensleydale Heifer

M. S.Staying in West Witton we arrived, two ladies in walking trousers, wanting to treat ourselves but trying to get the cheaper, earlier evening deal. Not having large appetites, we maximised our choices by one of us having a starter and one of us having pudding and we shared everything. The staff couldn't have been lovelier and the food was a feast of delights for eye and taste buds with flavours complementing and contrasting in most unexpected ways. We particularly enjoyed the tender rings of Squid and the quality even of the simplest wine. Complements to the chef!
h. s.To be honest this is more than five stars. The food was second to none, the service was brilliant and the surroundings were just what you want for a cosy meal out. Only one problem! I couldn't manage a pudding so going to have to go back tonight and try again as they looked like works of fine art.

Chris was exemplary, from our 1st interaction in a queue in a packed room on a busy Saturday afternoon, he made us all feel individually welcome and his genuine smile could be see from behind his mask. Small gestures make a big difference and this level of service helps create a wonderful environment that compliments the excellent food.
We returned for a nightcap as clean down was underway, nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel welcome rather than a burden.
We were again welcomed by again by Chris, bright and early with the same welcoming smile and enthusiasm for every guest and customer as he had, the night before.
Great to see such passion and joy in what can be a thankless industry, his service optimises what I believe to be true 5* service.

The free teddies for the kids was a very sweet and well-received gesture. The bawdy and mildly offensive toilet decor was the only thing that let the place down and was a bit out of keeping with the vibe of the Inn.

We chose the WF for a very special birthday celebration, and it could not have been better.
It is hard to find somewhere super special that is also family friendly (& fun!) but right from the pre arrival communications through to the amazing staff on the night, WF got everything absolutely spot on.
As well as the outstanding food and fabulous rooms, it was all the other ‘special touches’ that really sets the WF apart, from the kids mocktails to my big kid husband’s chocolate dog pudding!!
They also exceeded all expectations for coeliac gluten-free requirements - fully knowledgable and providing absolutely everything with great gluten free version (even decent bread!)
A big THANK YOU to everyone at the WF for making my mum’s birthday such a success, you were wonderful and we will all treasure our fluffy toy heifers forever!
D. B.We were staying near to the Wensleydale Heifer and saw very good reviews on TripAdvisor. We decided to book a table for my wife's birthday. We were welcomed and were looked after brilliantly by their excellent staff. As it was my wife's birthday, they also brought her a balloon, card and small cow gift. We have two small children and they got a cow gift too. Now for the food. We had some of the nicest food we've ever had in a restaurant. Appetisers, starters and mains were fantastic. Kids meals were delicious and even though we've got a picky boy child, they brought out separate pasta, bacon, cheese sauce and peas, instead of the macaroni cheese. All in all, we will definitely be back, and recommending to others. Couldn't recommend any higher!

D.We had an amazing evening at Wensleydale Heifer, the service and food was exceptional, nice to see staff that were helpful, friendly but not intrusive, and enjoyed what they were doing, they knew their stuff, when asked any questions, nothing was too much trouble for them, we will definitely be going back, we stayed in the James Bond room, which was something different, the bed was surprisingly comfortable and larger than we thought, our plan now is to try all the other rooms, this was a celebration for my husband's 60th birthday and he loved every minute of it, all I can say is I'll be back!! Oh thats not bond lol.

R. B.Sensational Sunday lunch after a little wander around the village and surroundings. The food was beautifully presented and delicious- a feast for the senses.
The only slight downside was the wait staff who seemed disorganised and there were delays with things like getting the bill. However, No need to rush on a Sunday - so this wasn’t a big deal.
