Friendly and helpful staff, the rooms were well kept and spacious. Breakfast buffet was alright, nothing special, but absolutely worth the 6£. The common area seemed quite fun. No need to rent any lockers though - there are storage capacities in the rooms that can be locked, you just need to bring your own padlock.
Overall it was a great stay and worth the money!

A nice place to stay with friends to have fun, but definitely would not recommend it for solo travelling or families. When I arrived I could leave my luggage in one of the rental lockers. At 15 o'clock, I tried to check in, but my bed had not been cleaned. I had to ask for it twice before they sent someone.
The hygiene is poor in the shared rooms and bathrooms. The lady hygiene boxes were totally full and everything was visible.
The room I stayed in was next to the smoking area. You could smell the smoke sometimes and hear the people talking at night.
Overall it was a nice place to stay if you take the price and location in mind. The tube station Russell Square is just a few minute walk.

I stayed for 1 night in a twin room with a shared bathroom. The person on reception who checked me in was really friendly and helpful.
The room itself was a bit run down. One of the duvets in the room didn't have a duvet cover on which wasn't too much of an issue as it was just me staying, but they don't look that clean under the cover. Overall the room could be cleaner but was okay. There were towels supplied for free which is great. Internet in my room was a bit patchy.
When I arrived the bathrooms weren't in the best condition, there was no toilet roll in some toilets and no soap but by the morning everything was sorted. The shower cubicles are very small, there's not really any space to put your things without them getting wet. I didn't have to queue at all for them so there seemed to be plenty!
It was okay for what I wanted and had everything I needed for one night stay.

This is the only best hostel in this post code and neighbouring postcodes. Staff, cleanliness, comfort, breakfast, wifi, rooms, corridors, showers, reception, and bar are described by a single word excellent. Thank you Generator hostel because you gave me 2 free breakfasts as well because you found I am a loyal customer. I will always come here again in future with my guests as well.

Sure it's not the most quiet Place. It's a busy livley Hostel with great Bar and all amenities you need for visiting London. I would like to point out that we had a very clean room and very comfy beds.
J. M.
Great value for money in Central London. For a 1* hostel it really does stand out. Clean and modern, the private bunk bed room we stayed in was adequately sized too. Will be using again with friends.
P. C.
Functional and perfectly nice. Had a private twin and it was fine.
Staff could be a little more welcoming & cooperative at check in. Showers have no space to change, which seems poorly thought out. Room was reasonably spacious. Plastic covers on mattresses which are a pain but you get a sheet to put on top (unlike some hostels).
Don’t forget to bring your own towel (or rent at reception) if you’re not in a private room.
Overall it’s fine, does the job!

Very happy with my stay here. Rooms are small but that's expected. Beds were comfy and chargers on each bunk was very handy. Toilets had to find initially on each floor, extra signage would be appreciated. Showers were pretty good though a few were out of service.
There were families, travellers, school trips, groups of lads and girls. Seems to be a spot for everyone!

We stayed here for 2 nights in a private room, and it was ok... the location is nice and the common rooms are great.
However, there were two things that we found a bit upsetting:
1. You have to pay (quite a lot) to store your luggage for a few hours (before you can check in and after you check out if you have a later flight for example)... I have never seen this in any hostel before... usually they let you keep your stuff for free, but not here!
2. It was so cold in the room! There was heating, but it was just never turned on (we even asked at the reception, but they said it is regulated by the hostel and apparently they did not find it necessary to turn it on....)... So make sure to bring some warm clothes to sleep in if you stay here during the winter months!

I checked in for 3 nights. It is a very popular hostel, so expect lots of people in your shared room. It was very crowded when I was there. Some people checked in at very late and will disturb your sleep. Shower room is fine but I wish for something more cleaner.

We stayed there 2 nights and we loved it! Very practical hostel, clean and well situated in camden on the picadelly line.
The neighborhood is super cute and with plenty of options.
The staff at the reception is amazing ! Highly recommended if you are on a budget and are planning the spend most of your time outside.

Stayed at the generator for the last 5 days and it's been great.
Booked into a dorm room and was given a bed in an 8 bed room, but only half of the beds were in use to aid social distancing.
Beds were very comfy and the hostel was clean overall.
Made good use of the facilities provided, with a good sized bar area for guests to relax in.
Location is fantastic, and for the price you can't beat it!
I'll definitely be staying here the next time I come to London.

Great hostel. The staff are really friendly and helpful. I slept at a 6 person bedroom and we had our own bathroom which were cleaned everyday. The bed was comfy and when I needed new sheets they glady send me some. Great value for money.

Good vibes and good for events, like dancing festivals in the main bar area, but it gets very hot! The quality of the hostel and cleaning was poor
J. W.
Great hostel. Not too expensive yet still clean and friendly! Staff super kind and helpful. Well decorated with a pool table, a fusball table and a games machine. The only downside is that you can’t bring in your own food and drink, would have no issue with this normally except the cafe downstairs only has 3 pizzas and a hot dog on the menu and the vending machine, only contains crisps and drinks, didn’t work… apart from this amazing stay, comfy beds and great atmosphere
S. M.
Very convenient location and close to the metro, welcoming staff and very nice and well organized rooms. The general prices are suitable for the services offered by the structure.
B. M.
Nice area such as bar and activities but no kitchen for cooking for working people wich should be provided in most places also laid 76 pound for one night room was very cold
A.
I stayed there 3 nights in a private 4 bed room with 3 friends. The room was really small (max. 15sqm) but for sleeping enough. We had 2 bunk beds which stay comfortable and an own sink in our room. The shared bathroom was not the cleanest but ok with enough toilets and showers.
The look of the hostel is modern and tuned for young people especially with the nice lounge with a bar, pool table and boxing machine. The location of the hostel is perfect to visit the city and Attractions. 5min. to Russell Square where you can pick the piccadilly line to the city center or heathrow airport. There is also the opportunity to stow away your suitcases after checking out but not for free.
If you want to stay a few days in london for a cheap price and you are searching a centrally located place only for sleeping, than i can recommend the generator London.

We spent New Year's eve here a few years ago, so of course it was expensive, not surpringly. Good place to meet fellow travelers. The facilities were really good and clean, very convenient also as far as getting infos on the city is concerned. The problem about chain hostels often is that they are much stricter about all kinds of rules, but one could feel that those working there tried not to be the party poopers either.
S. P.
Room was very cold, luggage storage cost $8/day, no shared kitchen but they happen to have a restaurant...
S. “. M.
I've stayed here multiple times now, which already says they're doing something right. Cheap place to stay, the shared dorm rooms & bathrooms are regularly cleaned and only encountered friendly staff my visits so far.
J. T.
Staff are always polite and are happy to give recommendations for things to do/see and places to eat/drink based on your price range.
They also are extremely helpful whenever I had a problem or needed help.
Great rooms and offer private and dorm rooms. If you’re a light sleeper and pick a dorm room I’d suggest an eye mask and ear plugs which can be provided by the hostel themselves for a low price.
I always have a great time staying here and it’s always my first port of call to stay if I’m visiting London
Y. I.
You get what you pay for, it wasn’t bad but nothing outstanding. The showers could be improved as there is no place to put your clothes.
d. s.
I stayed in a 4-bed room, was ok'ish. Staff is helpful and the property is clean.
K. R.
The staff was so helpful and incredibly nice. They accommodated us and made our stay all the more pleasant. Location was perfect we were able to walk everywhere.
B.
Its cool for the price. I did not like the fact that i did not get my refund back... I spent just a day out of 5 days.
V. L. (.
It is a very cheap stay. It delivers compared to hotels nearby with £100-£300 price ranges. Cheap stay for those in London.
M. R.
Great location and in easy reach of Russell station. Everyone is very nice and helpful even though things are strained with lockdown. Facilities could be better with use of a kitchen but they have tried to work with what they can. So I shouldn't complain. You're doing a great job 😊
A.
Both the staff and hostel were superb. Open spaces, many facilities, COVID measures ensured and very clean. I was in London for a short visit so I only stayed there for a night. Still I would highly recommend it to anyone who, despite being on a short budget, doesn´t want to give up safety, location and facilities (wifi, bar, reception 24/7...). Overall, a massive thank you to the staff on duty: specially Ferry and Fernando, who were in reception the night I arrived; as well as Luca and Iga, during the morning. They were friendly and very helpful, a lovely first impression of the hostel . Hugo, the barman, attended me in the evening, was very polite and smiley. And I would really want to thank the housekeeping girls, Stela and specially Marta, who made sure everything was in place at all times. I had never stayed in a hostel before, and I was truly surprised. Thank you to all the team!
P. C.
Good clean cheap accommodation in the centre of London. Breakfasts are unfortunately grab and go, rather than the help yourself fry-ups pre Covid-19.
R. M.
Great overall with minor inconveniences. Awesome location near two tube stations. Comfy beds and pillows, nice showers, clean bathrooms and reasonably priced laundry. I stayed in a basement suite below the bar so it was pretty loud at night but to be expected for a hostel. It was pretty difficult finding my room, the bathrooms, and laundry facilities, so a quick tour from staff would have been helpful. Otherwise, I had a great stay!
N. W.
The part facing the street was a bit rough, but once through the entrance walk and into the main building we were thrilled. Came as a family and we all had a good time. Loved the look of the place and the themed graffiti on the different floors. Breakfast was brilliant and excellent value. Room was very basic, but great for a one night stay.
C. C. C. (.
Best hostel I have ever been in. Well kept rooms and communal areas. Prices great, staff are very kind and go beyond the call of duty to make sure that your stay is great. My dog loves my bed!

Such a cool place! It was my first experience in a hostel, and it changed my perspective for the better. I came in exhausted from travel and food poisoning - wanted to upgrade to a private room to get some sleep. The front desk was really helpful and upgraded me without an issue. My room was on the top floor, clean and quiet. Had a sink in the room to brush my teeth, but used a shared bathroom for showering. The breakfast was good, and the bar/lounge area was lively with people even at 10am! I wish I’d had more time in London to enjoy a night out here and take advantage of the activities with the hostel. Definitely would stay here when in London again.
S.
Great location, totally adequate and practical, just not much more. Clean, but lots of small stuff broken or visibly used/battered/chipped. Nothing to the point of real inconvenience, just a lot of little "ah..." moments.
Bathrooms were super far from our room (opposite wing) so it was a hassle, and I thought there weren't many toilet/shower stalls but it was never actually a problem. The shared showers are extremely impractical, either leave your clothes outside the stall or get them wet, water often got all the way to the toilets. However they were always clean!
Our room was narrow and impractical for 3 people (lots of shuffling around to get around our luggage, just a few clothes hooks and only one tiny mirror with bad lighting, any make-up beyond daily-eyeliner had to be done in the shared bathrooms). Beds super comfortable. Some linens had old stains, while being clearly freshly washed and ironed.
Not sure how accessible the place is, there's a sign to call for help to get past the stairs to the reception and only one, small lift inside.
The lounging areas seemed really nice, though we only hung out there for a couple hours one night and didn't order anything. Didn't take it but the option to have breakfast seems convenient. There's plenty of nice places to eat around as well.
All the staff we interacted with were perfectly pleasant and available, we were allowed to check-in much earlier than planned. 24h/7 reception is also convenient. There are options to buy padlocks, extra towel, later check-out, etc.
Overall just adequate, I don't actively want to go back but would if that's my most convenient option.
D. W.
A quick walk from the train station, the location isn't the best and there isn't much around the hostel. The hostel itself is clean and good. The lobby area offers continental breakfast and a better breakfast for a price. There is also a menu of food and drinks to order. The bar itself is open from 8pm to 3am and offers different events every night and has solid drink options and deals. Super fun to hang out here and meet people. The rooms are decently sized, depending on how many people you stay with and there are community bathrooms. I found that the men's bathrooms were clean never over crowded. I would recommend staying here for a price convenient, fun time.
A.
The beds in the all girl dorm was very comfy, the downstairs bar was a lively environment and fun. However, it was kind of weird that anyone is allowed to come into the bar area – not just people staying in the hostel. Showers were clean enough for what you pay. The food in the bar downstairs is terrible – save your money.
T. F.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The atmosphere is incredible if you're in the mood for meeting new people and socializing. Good food, decent amount of choices available for drink and food. I had a very fun time.
The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean and functional.
However, I wish the bathrooms and showers were better and bigger, they would've made my stay even more comfortable.
The night entrance system they do is very nice, allows you for a ton of freedom without bothering anyone.
If you're a teen or on your 20s, or just in the mood for youngster atmosphere, I definitely recommend staying here.
M. C.
Very short distance walk from St Pancras which was handy! Friendly reception staff and adequate room for the night for me and my friend. Nice overhead shower. Bed was comfortable enough. Road works outside building made it difficult to get an Uber but other than that it was a great stay!
J. H. S.
The beds are lit!
Everyone helpful and the bar there isn't that bad as well (without covid it would be better of course). Meeting nice people, having great chats and staying central - it's a yes from my experience! Staying here for 5 nights(90£) and will come back definently!!
- And the shower is awesome -

The hostel is located very close to King's cross. Each floor has a different thematic and the rooms are very comfortable. The staff is very nice, to the point that I didn't feel comfortable in the first room they gave me and without questions asked they changed me to another. The atmosphere is quite nice, particularly if you're on holiday, but they have different areas for chilling too. I feel breakfast is a little bit overpriced but then again is a buffet breakfast with hot meal and continental breakfast. Downside is that they don't rent towels, they sell them, so don't forget to bring yours!

I booked a private room and it was according to the pictures in the website. The shared bathrooms were clean and spacious. There's a cool pub downstairs serving food and drinks. Is a good option for a solo traveler. Wifi was GREAT. Although there's no night life around the neighborhood, location is really good public transport wise
L. I. 1.
Very good hostel. Staff friendly and always ready to help. Comfortable bed. A range of discounts to tours and events offered with stay. Free breakfast inc toast/cereal, coffee & tea. Clean bathrooms. Great proximity to Russel Sq
A. R.
Overall, great location next to Kings Cross. Great atmosphere in the bar area as well, prices were not cheap but a bit lower than what else you could find in London. Front desk staff are friendly and informative.
Con - you have to pay for luggage storage which can cost up to 8 pounds for 24 hours. If you check in early and need to check out late (as we did) you will have to pay 16 pounds to store your luggage.
Rooms are average for a hostel, would recommend avoiding a room in the basement. We were originally placed here and it smelled like the sewer as our window opened into a crawl space. The front desk relocated us to a room on the second floor which was much better.

My first ever hostel experience and I’ll defiantly be returning! Very clean, modern with great facilities. The room was very warm, the windows don’t really open far enough. Downstairs is great, very lively and friendly staff. ( I’m ever so slightly in love with the lovely girl on the bar, the one with glasses! )
T.
We stayed for two nights and had a blast. The private room for 3 people was accommodating. No thrills but also no problems, and for the price paid we were very happy.
The bathrooms were clean if regularly closed for cleaning on our floor. The showers were basic and we couldn't find any lockers to put clothes. The bar downstairs was fairly priced and we made good use of it.
The staff were chatty and friendly, I'd definitely go back if I needed a place to sleep in central London again.
A. v. S.
Very good looking hostel with comfortable beds and clean room (room 107, a 10 bed dorm). Only really bad point is the bathroom with showers on the ground floor. It stinks horribly, so bad we had to find another place to shower. The showers in the basement are much better. Very clean and spacious. Unfortunately there's no place to hang stuff inside the shower itself where it will stay dry, so you'll just have to trust the other guests not to take any of your stuff with them. Drinks at the bar are decently priced and the vibe is pretty great. The location of the hostel is really good as well, close to 2 tube stations. Friendly staff, but unfortunately not possible to pay with anything except Mastercard and Visa, not even paypal.
D. C.
Grand for what it is, if your looking for a cheap play to stay, it ticks all boxes.
J. D.
The staff was friendly and helpfull. The beds are comfortable and clean. There are no plugs near the beds, so you havr to charge your phone on the other side of the room. (Not ideal when this is your alarm clock.) The showers don't have a little changing area in front of the shower. Which means either getting dressed inside of a wet shower cabin or in front of it with 5 other people and no space to put your stuff down... Not a huge problem, but not very comfortable either. In the boy's bathroom some doors didn't have working locks. The communal areas are nicely decorated. When we complained about the inappropriate behaviour of 1 room mate, he was immediately moved to a different room, they were very nice and understanding about it. Overall I had a good experience. Would recommend if you are looking for an affordable place to stay and you're willing to compromise on some things like the shower-situation and the plugs.
S. A.
I loved it. There's so many interesting young people from all over the world to meet, the staff is way too nice and the rooms and so are quite well. I loved meeting people in the pub (which is inside the hostel) at night. That hostel has really positive vibes. I really recommend it, even more to young people that want to see other cultures mixed up in the best way and have fun. Both, the place and the location are very comfortable, and the atmosphere is great.
M. C.
Short emergency stay for me. This meant checking in at night. Staff was very friendly and it was a very affordable solution.
However, I found myself having to make my bed when I arrived to the room. Which in itself isn't a big issue. But at 1 at night when everyone else in the room is sleeping it is very annoying and loud.
Besides that I think it would be useful to add toilet and shower signs to the signage for room numbers as it is a very big building with various hallways.
All by all I believe it's very good in the price/quality category. But keep in mind you do have to sacrifice comfort for it.
D. W.
Good place if you're young hip and on a night out. Only criticism is that they need to use a better blue cheese for their chicken wings.
Had to down grade to a 3 unfortunately. I tried to have a shower twice, once in the evening and then in the morning. Only two showers worked with any decent flow. No hot water though, even when you left it running for a bit. Not a fan of cold showers. If that was fixed then would stay again.
On a positive note staff are friendly, room and bed are good for what you are paying.
L. M.
I booked this for the location and was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. It is a step up from other hostels I have stayed in. Upon entering there is someone on the door to greet you. The reception is spacious, modern and clean. The whole hostel is filled with excellent design features from the smiley face at the front desk, mod Photo Booth, the light fittings, painted piano and the list goes on. The floors are themed with Bond, Poppins, Ali G and more. The room I stayed in was dinky but great for what I wanted - to sleep. The shower rooms are spacious and never seemed to be busy. The hostel is spacious with a travel shop, chill out area and bar perfect for hanging out. On an evening there is security on the door which adds to feeling extra secure. The staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating. The location is an added bonus as its central with Russell Square tube stop close by. I can't wait to check out the other generator hostels and see how they compare. I would definitely stay here again.
R. J.
The right side of the building guest rooms are not the best.... You hear the music till at least 3am. We had a room on the other side and didn't hear it but our friends did. The room doors are pretty thin and you hear all the commotion out in the hall all night. We had our own bathroom, but not all rooms did have, so careful when booking. Cleanliness is not top, the sink had no stopper and there were disgusting hairballs in the drain where you brush your teeth! Yuck! The shower water was luke warm at best, except the last day and then it was better... But it was 3AM when I used it so I suspect it was hot but because there wasn't hundreds of other guests using it. Didn't eat breakfast, it didn't look appealing for 10 pounds... Runny eggs, ham looked so so (go up the street to Wake Up Café, good food nice people) Maybe I'm just not a hostel fan....but I would not stay there again. It is close to public transportation though, so you have that.
_. U.
Rooms are small, toilets and showers very clean (seems like to look after them every few hours), wifi is stable and fast enough for a Hostel. Breakfast is not very nice, but okay. Employees are helpful and friendly, there is enough space in the bar and the lounge to hang out, good music, a lot of people.
M. P.
Super accommodating. When we got there, we wanted a private room, but they only had 1 for the first night, then we had to move to a different room the next day, which wasn’t going to be available until 2p. My friend got super sick, and the receptionist was able to get us in our room right away. I don’t know what the receptionists name was but I cannot say enough about the exceptional service she gave us. So that alone is worth the 5 stars. Thank receptionist girl!
S. P.
The staff is very kind and the rooms are very nice and clean. I luckily find Jessica who is an Italian girl who works there and she is incredible! She's very good to welcome people and to make them feel comfortable. It's been a pleasure talk with her because you can see the passion she has for her work.
Talking about the hostel, there's a lovely and simple breakfast with a good amount of choice. Very nice the zones of the bar and the chill room.
A. A.
Decent hostel and cheap prices. Staff was friendly and helpful. Entry through a courtyard. Not much happening at the in-house bar/pub in the evenings. The toilets are clean but showers were broken, dirty and very very small with no hooks or drain, it gets slippery, worse than dorms. The beds were comfy and there was a sink in the room with hot water, lockers in the room but you will need a padlock. £2 per hour or £8 per day for the lockers once you checkout, 20p per page for print out. Washing and drying available. Install ViaVan for cheap shared taxi around London, we paid less than £4-5 pounds each trip. Use my coupon ashwin2v4 to get £12 free ride credit.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights in a private room. We spent the first night at the Cafe chatting with people and then moved to the bar. It was cool to be able to hang out at the hostel and meet new people but once we headed to bed for a good night's rest we were only able to hear the pounding music coming from the bar (even though they have several signs asking for you to be quiet and to be respectful of their neighbors). Music finally stopped around 3am. Which is incredibly late. The rooms were clean but we never received the extra pillow we asked for and only one bed was made up upon our arrival. (sheets were layed out on the bed but not made). We had no access to a kitchen or even any cups/plates due to the fact they don't want you bringing in any outside food (boo). Their food was quite pricey but tasty. The building itself was hard to find as it's down a small alley behind several other buildings. Would not recommend to friends to stay there.
L. G.
I'm currently staying in a triple room with 2 friends. It's a place to stay, nice beds, clean. They have guest activities which are pretty cool and the food seems pretty good. The staff have all been really friendly. The shared showers/bathrooms are very clean and have great water pressure. Unfortunately we came to England during an apparent heat wave and there's no air conditioning and the windows only open about 10 centimetres. Other than that, I'd still come back, just when it's less hot and humid.
A. P.
You will not get a better price for Central London. The room isn't extravagant, but it's clean and efficient. Shared bathrooms on the hall. Didn't have any issue with that. Pretty strict security at night. Lively bar in the lobby open until late. The elevator is unusable at busy times because there's only one and you can barely fit 4 people in it. But overall the location and the price is so good, I will most likely stay there again.
D. C.
Perfect stay at amazing prices. Stayed for only one night but had a great night in the bar and then returned to a quite room and hallway. The rooms are up to date, clean and practical bathrooms. Nice staff and useful storage for luggage during the day. Only downside is the continental breakfast which doesn't have much range. But all in all a great place to stay in London.
y.
I had a couple of problem during my stay, the corridor was smelling like sweat no ventilation and you always have to wait for getting in touch with the staff at the reception. The bathroom is not the cleanest and their are no elevator so when you come you better have some energy to carry your luggages. Other than that the reception is very helpful, the beds are comfortable and the hostel is quite central and near the subway.
D. H.
I have to say. You cannot top this.
For whatever reason someone doesn’t leave a 5 star review, it must be known: This stay costs £20.
Twenty, Pounds. For a hostel a 10 minute walk from kings cross with a waitrose across the road. Now that’s a bargain. The few cons of this place were far outweighed by the pros.
I could go on, and describe the full details, About how living with 4 people in a small room is somewhat uncomfortable, How the showers didn’t have functioning locks in a few cases and how the heater blasts you into dehydration. But you’re paying £20. It’s expected. I can’t give this place a bad review when it provides full value for money.
There was very little noise, it was extremely clean, the place was aesthetically pleasing and had a friendly vibe. A hot shower is possible and the underbed lockers became quite useful.
The personnel are great. I wrote an enquiry before coming asking for a top bunk and got my email answered within a few minutes. The front desk staff allowed for a fast check in and told let me know where the showers were. Great service!
J. S.
I have been there for nearly two weeks and it has been awesome! I stayed on a shared room of 4 people, pretty comfortable. All the people was very nice, the staff was wonderful, always there for helping you whenever you needed them (and with a smile on their face). Everything was very clean, especially the toilets. The only thing that could be improved is the ventilation in the rooms (at least in summer), because at night it was very hot and was very difficult to sleep.
I would recommend to have breakfast in the Hostel, as they offer you a magnificent English breakfast for a reasonable price. Moreover, the facilities were very good, very big spaces for getting relaxed and socialise, they even broadcasted all the world cup matches.
I would like to thank all the Generator staff for making my stay there a wonderful experience! See you soon!

We stayed 3 people in a 4 bed dorm. Good location, nice staff, good breakfast BUT. The third floor was very hot, it seemed like there was no ventilation. A lot of thing was "out of order", the only elevator, toilets and all urinals in the men's bathroom that was closest to our room was out of order. The toilet also clugged up very fast, sometimes there was only one working toilet in the girls room, near us. Also the temperature of the water in showers was hard to adjust, at least I didn't figure it out. But otherwise it is a nice place and good atmosphere.
D. J.
Very clean rooms. Food was great! Such a lively night/bar/club. It’s cool because you see locals and people from all over the place. Good mix. Pleasant staff.
L. W.
This hostel is certainly worth staying at. Has a great bar which isn't expensive and food is available. They have washing machines and dryers which are expensive to use however this is understandable and a welcome addition when staying in a hostel. The lack of air conditioning should be noted however I stayed during a heat spell, which isn't too common. Security is great and reception staff are phenomenal. Location is perfect, not too noisy but also close to get around and see all of London. The 4 bedroom room was cramped, so would probably recommend the 6 bedroom however if you have great roommates its not an issue at all.
J. H.
Great hostel, excellent facilities, very clean.
My only complaints which makes this 4 stars instead of 5:
1: waiting to talk to reception about anything takes ages, no matter what time of the day you go
2: The elevator was hardly ever working while I was there and I was staying 4th floor and above for most of my stay
3: The majority of the 4 bed dorms are so small that the door hits the bunk on the way in. No a huge problem, but it is when new comers to the room arrive at all hours and swing the door open not expecting it to hit a bed
4: The music in the pub is too loud. Everyone is trying to chat and meet new people but it's difficult when you're having to yell. The acoustics make it unpleasant on the ears
Despite the above, I really enjoyed my stay!

When I arrived, I received no information about events, rules, laundry, amenities, or anything but how to find my room. Because of this, we went through a line with trays of breakfast food and were denied at the end because it turned out the line was for groups only. The private room was nice but the faucet at the in-room sink leaks, even after I asked maintenance to attend to it. The lockers under the beds were very useful. The communal bath looks nice but it's a gamble on how people clean up behind themselves. We went down to ask the desk workers for 2 types of restaurants and they had no recommendations or knowledge on either type between the 3 of them. Other guests were mostly douchey (cutting in queue or being inconsiderate about noise) but when complained about our neighbors playing music into the hall with their door open and laughing loudly at 22:00, the staff laid down the freaking law. A nice place if you have a private room. I don't even want to think about the noise level if you're in a dorm.
M. P.
Shared rooms were compact but clean and well maintained. Check-in and check-out were smooth. Breakfast was decent. Bathrooms were clean and functional. Mobile network was spotty in some areas. WiFi kept disconnecting periodically and was a pain to connect to ( required a bunch of info to be filled out every time).

Can't deny this place 5 stars. Great location. It's clean and modern and has cheap dorm rooms, a lively bar, lockers, 24h check in and hot showers. That's what you want from a hostel when you're travelling right? I wasn't actually travelling but needed a cheap bed for a few hours each night and this place left a good impression. The beds were that plastic cover type which are hot and sticky but that's pretty unavoidable and you don't have to feel guilty if you're a night dribbler or bed wetter. Plenty of good eating places nearby. Enjoy London.
C.
I'm OK with this place. The bed soft and not too hard to sleep. But toilet seem to has a cannot flush issue. The bathroom is OK but some room cannot change water temperature. This place is good cleaning
Another problem that I found because I book a room at the summer and they got no air conditioning which make the room so hot that I have to open the door to make the air flow.
Overall is ok.

All you need for an hostel.
Bring your towel and amenities (shampoo etc) otherwise you can buy it from the reception as they have every.
Did I mention that the bar is amazing same if the music too loud for me. Price are really attractive. And did I mention the staff? 5 stars. They are amazing and professional!!!
P. L.
Clean, comfortable beds, professional service. Stayed in a 4-bed room and it was tiny. Barely room to breath. Stayed in a 6-bed room and another time and there was a lot more space. Definitely more commercial than most hostels - you can't rent a towel, only buy one; you can't rent a padlock, only buy one; no outside food allowed, only food from the restaurant. Nowhere to chill except the hostel cafe/bar or your room.
H. M.
This hostel is offering quite a lot for a very small amount of money. It's very clean and the employees are very nice. The onliest thing I didn't like was that you have to pay £4 for a towel even though they change them every day. I definitely recommend this hostel and would stay here again.
M. S.
It's located in a nice neighborhood, and the interior of the hostel has a cool vibe I wasn't expecting. Lots of young people, the bar was pretty crowded on a Tuesday night which was neat. There's a friendly doorman and the rooms were nice with comfortable beds. However... I stayed in an 8 person female-only room. There were no curtains on the beds, so I was awoken by the light a couple of times through the night. There were only a couple of outlets in the room, none of which were near the beds. And at the restaurant area, I waited over an hour for an order of sweet potato fries. When I asked them about it, I received regular french fries, which weren't worth the price. I only stayed one night, so none of this was a major deal. But I don't think I'd like being there for much longer.
J.
Just decent, except for the restrooms maybe
P. M.
Has to be one of the best hostels I've stayed at. It has everything from a great bar, with a pool table and an incredibly cool DJ set up, to perfect wifi that reaches the rooms. This chic and stylish hostel has all the essentials. For example everything is very clean and kept up to nice standards and the showers can be put to any temperature and they are also very powerful. The hostel also has great security at night time. The only downside is that the rooms are a bit on the smaller side, but your in London what do you expect
M. B.
While the staff was helpful and the linens were clean, there are a few things to watch out for. I stayed in a 12 bed all female room and it had a very different layout than the picture on the website. There was almost no room to keep your things near your bed if they did not fit in the underbed locker. It was very very close quarters. Because of the age of the building there is not power at every bed and it got fairly warm in our basement level room so that is something else to look out for. It didn't make it a bad experience but it's something to plan for. I found the bathrooms out of supplies occasionally but never dirty and the bar and common areas were nice as well.
K. B.
We got a private room for 3. There's not much to say about the room itself. There is one single bed and a bunk bed, both comfortable. Apart from the beds, there was a small sink with a mirror and a table with a chair. We spend so little time in the room it didn't even mattered it was small, kind of hard for two people to pass by. There was a 4 cabin toilet close to our room (great condition), and a shower facility across the corridor. People at the reception were kind and friendly. There's also a bar at the 1st floor where we spent some time. It was full of residents playing pool drinking and dancing. Overall experience was good, we wouldn't hesitate to pick this hotel again in future.
R. G.
I have stayed in 3 hostels in London now, this one being one of my favorites. It has 2 bars downstairs, foods really good, rooms are clean and every Saturday they host an event for the residents. Live DJ and a tattoo artist inside which is really unique!. Would recommended for anyone looking to make friends in London whilst being close to central.
S. X.
Quite newly renovated hostel close to several tube stops and bus stops in a great kinda quiet street. The staff upon arrival was super friendly and helpful also in recommending things to do. They do offer activities everyday in which we did not participate, but traveling solo that’s always a plus. The room we stayed in was quite small but did offer underbed lockers for every bed. When we got back late at night we realised we did not have sheets on our mattress but reception staff managed to immediately get us some. The bathrooms were quite clean and as long as you don’t go take a shower right before check out you don’t have to wait. Was quiet in the room at night even though the bar upstairs was still playing music. It is a huge hostel but I would stay here again and definitely recommend!
M. M.
I really enjoyed staying at Generator. People in my room where cool and easy going. Good vibe overall. Lively and friendly. Reception staff where professional and accommodating. Clean and neat bathrooms. Just a long walk if your Room is at the end of the floor. The prices kept going up every night different and higher. Initially 14 pounds and towards the end 24 pounds per night. Interesting mix of people of all ages from all over the world. Would have stayed longer if not for the price eventually. In the hart of London. Very busy Hostel...I didn't book, because I never do. Fortunately all good. Will definitely stay with them again.
י. ס.
Great value for 💰, great atmosphere. Good breakfast. The room on the second floor is also quiet although other reviews suggested it's too loud.
All in all I can come back hers again.
I. A.
Actually a good place for what you pay. It all depends on the people you share the room with, if they respect the rules, everything is good to go. The bed is comfortable enough. Bathrooms are clean enough. It is a safe place, staff is nice. Is not fancy, just a place to rest.
N. T.
The rooms are really tiny, but clean. But that can’t be said about the showers. They are disgusting and are spilling all over the place water, because the pipes are broken.
I’ve been to a few generator Hostels in Europe and this one doesn’t meet the quality standards of the other hostels.
The price is ok for a hostel in London.
All in all, I would they the hostel is ok, but I wouldn’t return to it.
Đ. T.
Quite cheap room but the rest room is a bit dirty
G. R. P.
Some of the rooms even require access passing through service area, really small showers.
In fairness I must update this, mostly friendly staff, particularly the ones from Spain and Argentina, others not so much. Great food, sublime location, can't stress this enough, only thing is, rooms do not have their own bathroom (at least the whole floor I stayed at)
S. C.
Stayed here last October with 2 of my friends, we shared a private room and was really nice. The security was good and a good location as it was 15 minute walk from the train station. A good place for students/young people as there is a bar with good music and nice atmosphere.
My only problem is that all the toilets on the floor I stayed on were fully blocked and if I needed the toilet I would have to go on the ground below.
I am staying in the Generator again this May and I am hoping that the toilets are no longer a problem. Look forward to coming again!
4. C. J.
I stayed for 6 weeks and I didn't ever get to know any of the staff's names. They were completely disconnected and not interested in anyone staying there.
The Australian girl who works behind the reception is one of the rudest staff members I've ever come across.
The disco is great, though, and other than the rude staff I did have a great time staying there.
K. G.
First time staying in a hostel, so I have nothing to compare it to. But so far so good! Bed is rock hard and almost no blankets, and bathroom is an eternity away, especially when you've had a few beers and need to pee every ten minutes. But overall it's been really fun. I slept great, even without extra blankets or my serta mattress. Definitely a place for the younger generations. Music still blasting downstairs at 11pm, so if you're wanting to go to bed early, maybe bring ear plugs. Or be like me and have the ability to fall asleep anywhere, any time.
K. M.
Staff were nice enough but sometimes a bit short with you. Four bed room was tiny, barely enough room to all be doing things at the same time, but had a sink in the room which was nice. Bathrooms were pretty good, great showers if not a little small. Breakfast was very limited for £8
J. L.
The Generator was great! It was affordable, we had a decent room and shared bath. The area can’t be beat! The hostel was steps away from many eateries, pubs, shops and the tube. I plan on returning someday!
S. S.
Good hostel in the center of London. Rooms where small but big enough. Showers were great with lots of water coming out of the shower head. Breakfast was fine even though they only have one type of bread with ham, cheese and some fruits. The bar was open untill 4 am and the atmosphere was great. Overall a good hostel to stay for the younger people.
A. M.
I stayed here for just one night and thank GOD I didn't have to stay any longer. In a dorm directly underneath the hostel's pub with music blaring until 3am, strange and very loud booms every hour and unusually loud ventilation it's safe to say, I can't remember ever getting to sleep and was glad to get out.
It's a very much what I'd call an industrial hostel, making the most of every space and extra charge possible but that's understandable given the prime location.
The location and outside security was a positive as well as the bedding (which came as a nice surprise) and the social areas were spacious and buzzing.
But I would personally not stay here again.
C. A.
Stayed in a 4 bed room which was pretty cramped, and the listing also made it seem like their was an ensuite which was not the case. Other than that everything was clean and the vibes were pretty cool, and for the price you can't complain. Overall decent if you're only staying for a couple nights.
J. H.
I am impressed!! As soon as I walked into Generator I knew I would be writing a review. Friendly staff, chic decor, nice bar, cool cafe, great food, all around REALLY great experience here! I always have really low expectations for hostel's whenever I'm traveling and this hostel is my absolute favorite. And the price? are you kidding this is a great deal. The Wifi works through the entire thing too so that was awesome. I've had tons of issues with that in hostels before. I stayed in room 330 on the 3rd floor. It's very spacious for an 8 person dorm room and was never completely full! Great stay
The ONE thing- the breakfast sucks.
Not worth the pounds.
c.
Young hip hostel, well maintained with enthusiastic staff, but room was hot and small, and all doors slam hard so you can hear it at all hours. Elevator was broken when we were there so it was a big hassle to bring big luggage to upper floor. Bring your own towel because it costs 4 pounds to rent.
K. J.
Cons: The 4 bed mixed dorm I just stayed in was tiny. Like the room is as long as the beds and if more than one person is trying to pack /dress at the same time, there's no room. The hostel is massive and only has one elevator to service all 6 levels. The shower I had, had little pressure. The staff at the front wasn't what I'd call friendly. I stayed for one night and my room key deactivated twice. Which meant going back to reception from my 5th floor room (with one elevator only) to get it reactivated. The second time, I was in reception in my boxers cause I used the toilet in the early morning. Pros: close to Russell Square Station, cheap.
T. C.
It's clean and well maintained. Brightly decorated and recently refurbished. People there are generally young but a few older people as well.
There is good wifi throughout the building including the rooms. Showers and toilets are a little far away from some rooms but are kept clean in most cases. The staff are helpful and professional.
I've stayed in a few hostels in London and this is by far the best.
B. F.
I stayed in a basement room for 3 nights, where the rooms were quiet and tidy - rooms above the common areas will have noise issues as the hostel has a DJ on until 3am, so don't forget your ear plugs!
The beds are arranged a little weird in some rooms (there was a big gap between my bed and the wall).
There are no plugs by the beds, and no individual lights, which is frustrating for many reasons. I understand there are issues with adding outlets due to the building being listed, but there are ways to deal with that.
The common areas are good. Lots of seating, decent WiFi and a good atmosphere. The staff try to get people involved with daily events etc, which most seemed to appreciate.
Unfortunately they seem a bit strict when it comes to bringing your own food and drinks.
Drinks at the hostel as decently priced for London, but I heard bad stuff about the food (although I didn't eat there, so it might be good normally. There are lots of cheap places nearby though if it's not the case). There are no places for guests to cook, but maybe you can get hot water for noodles if you ask nicely.
I will stay here again, but there are improvements to be made. Price is good.
C. D.
Generator Paris has infinitely higher grades of quality than London's. The common area is great and reasonably-priced, but that's about all the positive I can say about it.
The rooms are incredibly small, shared bathrooms leave a lot to be desired. My 3-bed dorm had enough space for only one person to move around the room at a time, had a tiny mirror with a sink.
Mind you, I'm 26 and not really in a party mindset anymore - but if I was maybe 19 I'd love this place. I stayed here 2 nights and the downstairs "club" blasted music until 3 AM (even on Sunday night).
Again, if you're an older traveler and looking for a good night sleep, move along; if you're looking for fun and to party with fellow travelers, you'll love it.
J. B.
I had a room of for four people (bunk-beds), and the sink was kind of blocked. When I brushed my teeth or washed my hands, the water VERY SLOWLY went down the drain. Some times, I would come back into the room, and the water would only have been half down. It wasn't nice to see.
Downstairs, there is a very nice vibe.
My only problem was the room honestly. But I don't spend all day in my room though.
C. H.
Stayed here with my college last week and had a decent stay.
The hostel was perfectly located as the nearest tube was only a short walk away and you could get to Oxford Street in roughly 20 minutes.
The breakfast was very basic and quite poor quality so I'd recommend going else where for something to eat. But the room was very spacious and there was plenty of space even with the five of us sharing.
I was also really impressed with the shared bathroom which was kept very clean considering the amount of people that were using it.
We also made use of the "chill room" which was a nice place to relax and charge up our phones.
K. H.
The overall room size is very small. Most of the rooms are bunk bed style. Its a hostel, so communal bathrooms are available. Overall it's a nice area for college students or younger persons. Not too ideal for families, especially those with children. Many events for mingling and dancing. Bare minimum. You have to pay 5 UK pound for a towel.
l. l.
Only a few of the staffs are helpful. The location is good as it was near to the tube station. Can get food easily. And there are 2 beautiful parks nearby.
The room I stayed in with my family was clean but small. We can't open the window and there was no fan. The ventilation was very bad compounded with the heat during our stay there, it was very uncomfortable. The lift was out of order and we were on the 4th floor! Worst was when the shared toilet just infront of our room overflow into the corridor. The corridor carpet was wet (for the 3 days we stayed) and the smell was not nice.
M. H.
Nice location and hipster decorating, and decent service, but thats about it. The room smelled horrible, and was not very clean and no plugs near the beds and couldn’t tell if the sheets were clean or not. They really could do more to make the rooms feel better.
C. M.
Honestly, it's pretty good, a few details are to be fixed, but generally it's a great hostel. One person in our group got her pajamas and charger taken away because she was on the wrong bed, and they magically appeared the next day (cleaning staff?) and the showers are a bit grimy. But the chill zone, café, bar, and nightclub next to the lobby are very very cool. Good beers, okay music, great people.
It remains a hostel, so if you're alone or in a small group and want your privacy, it's maybe not the best option. But if you're in a large group or don't mind other people sharing your room, I highly recommend it.
j. d.
Had a nice stay all around. Prices for a dorm bed are the lowest out of all the hostels in London, so you cant really complain about anything regarding comfort/service. Generator has also a great location, as it is just a 10 min. footwalk away from Kings Cross, whit the tube you can be easily anywhere in London within 30 min.
The staff at the reception was very friendly and helpful. The pictures shown on booking websites are just right and you get to stay in a clean, modern hostel.
They have big lockers under every bed, that made me feel safe all the time as it was my first hostel dorm stay.
The only thing that i have to complain about is that you have to pay kinda much for breakfast and that you are not allowed to bring in your own food. Apart from that, everything fine!
L. Y.
Good bar area for drinks, food and socialising with other guests. Beds were comfy and plenty of storage space for your luggage. Only downsides is lack of maintenance in the mens bathroom and lack of power outlets in the mixed dorms.
D. T.
The hostel is very well placed. Rooms are beautiful but beds are not that good. Also price was too high for what they offer.
The activities organized by the hostel are good.
There is no air conditioning and hostel is not very clean.
Dont buy breakfast, is very expensive, there is no biscuits, only 1 brand of cereal, YOU CANNOT TOAST BREAD (Are you kidding?). Worst breakfast in an hotel in my life.
M. K.
Lively atmosphere , very good location !
In the evening the bar is great. Can keep to yourself or get talking to people.
S. B.
Very good atmosphere. A bar, restaurant and club included. Also nice study places.
No possibilities for own cooking unfortunately. Bathrooms are far away from our room. They do not seem to bother fixing broken locks of toilets (3/4 could not lock). Room was very small. Very cold during day (with -3 outside). Apparently the general heating will not be on during the day. In contrast, the Heather was way too hot during the night and could not be turned off. It smelled terrible in the small room and had very dry air which did not improve sleeping quality. Matrass was very nice though. There is a drawer that can be locked but mine was broken. Luckily I could share with my friend. A small trolley can fit in there.
Overall experience is still very good due to the atmosphere. The hostel also really cool looking with nice decoration. There is good music and a place for everyone downstairs (a chat, dance, game, use internet, study). Good food options. They could only improve the minor things. Would advice for young travelers out for fun (esp. Groups)' would not advice if you prefer a good night of peaceful sleep. I would go again but try to find a more spatious room (they got plenty of options)
G. D.
Amazing place, great rooms, 9/10 clean.
Amazing little club to dance and play pool and drink and meet people. Good breakfast selection.
Wifi works and the locker room is not expensive and pretty big.
Smoking area is outside, and people are generally very friendly.
Super close to the center and close to places to eat.
Great price/value.
J. B.
Yes!
This is what I look for in a hostel. It took me a few, but I found one that was contemporary, clean and had a lot of genuine backpackers who are travelling to interesting places and didn't have that forced "I'm a world traveller when I'm actually doing it on my wealthy parents money" sort of feel.
The people here had been going to place like South America, the Middle East, Polynesia and so on.
Very cool. I liked it a lot <3
G. S.
Just matches the price you pay.
Straight to the point. Nice professional staff, mainly the kitchen staff. Clean accommodation. Most floors have a shared bathroom on same floor which is large enough to cater for a good number of people showers/toilets at one time. Some floors have two man toilets so some issues here. Rooms don't have enough charge points and sockets, real letdown. You don't have use of Kitchen, big negative. Breakfast is pay for. It is too expensive.Save yourself a few pound and go to Tesco on the corner. If you do pay then fill your booths as its buffet style but limited selection. Games area is good and there is a bar. Overall you get what you pay for. Not ideal for backpacker looking to save money as no kitchen option.
J. C. M.
This was a nice stay at the generators hostel. The rooms were nice with two bunk beds and a tap. The toilets were public with showers and some changing rooms. Everything was wonderful and the staff was helpfull. The reason I did not give 5 stars is because I was not able to eat breakfast at the hostel because they did not prepare for the amount of people that stay in there. For this reason there were many delays and a huge wait time for a simple English breakfast. Another reason is the fact that they do not offer towels for the clients to shower. Apart from that it was excellent.
N. B.
Great atmosphere, wonderful service, clean rooms that were well kept. Only hostel guests are allowed inside and there are round the clock security guards throughout the building. There was a big scowling guard that was a bit off putting but the rest were nice while also making me feel secure. Wonderful food and drinks in the hostel, I'd recommend that for authentic London cuisine over going out, especially for breakfast or dinner.
a. k. k.
I give it a 3 star because the floor I staid at smelled like feet and full of young students traveling and coming back in the middle of night drunk without any care for people that were sleeping. Other than that, the hostel is great and the amenities decent. If you are looking for a cheap stay in the heart of London, that's a great place.
J. W.
Very nice!
Breakfast was included and was delicious. The room was a 10 person room and was huge! The beds were extremely comfy and big, there was a light with 2 usb ports on it.
There were sockets close to all beds so you could easely charge all your mobile phones or powerbanks.
Every person had a dedicated storage box under the bed with enough room to fit clothes for 2 weeks and still have room left.
The hostel is located close to the kings cross undergroud station so you could go to the heart of London with ease!
B. E.
This is the 4th Generator location I have stayed at. It is consistent with the other locations. Quite yet lively, safe, clean and hip. Rooms are fairly well maintained and kept clean. Lots of diversity, travelers of all ages and backgrounds. Close to transportation and food. Easy to get to from public transit. In-house bar and cafe which is nice and convenient. Staff is friendly and accommodating I do have a few minor issues with this location. The elevator was out for most of my stay. Not a big deal for me but there were some guests that were in wheel chairs or with crutches, making it quite impossible for them to move about the building. Also, unlike the other locations I've stayed, here the bunks had little to no bunk shelf storage and no bunk lights or power outlets. I'm spoiled I guess. Lol. All in all, It was a pleasant stay and I would definitely stay again.
a. b.
Stayed at this place for a night in September 2019..had booked through Airbnb in advance..and had no trouble in checking-in or out of this place. The location is a big plus since it is quite close to St Pancras international station. The staff are courteous and helpful. I was returning back home after my master and hence had lot of luggage. This place does have paid lockers available which can be rented for safe keeping luggages after even checking out of the room. The bed was clean and luckily no loud snorers were in my room, so I did have a good night sleep. The toilets and bathrooms were clean neat and tidy ,that's a big positive. There is a pub which has great food and drinks. The room did not have a plugin point but only USB charging.. luckily I had else would have been an issue. The place also offers cycles on rent as well as a slew of other package tours which you can book on checking in at the reception itself.
A. M. B.
Generally a great place with wonderful power showers with lock boxes under your bed.
However the toilets are often full because they don't flush well and the management is also heavy-handed with their "no outside food & groceries" policy.
T. H.
Only complaint is their security guard/enforcer. He was pretty rude to my friend and I on multiple occasions. I felt he was intentionally trying to establish power over us in an arbitrary display of alpha male dominance. This place has decent crowds that are completely tame and laid back so I am not sure what he gains except a heightened sense of self satisfaction. Besides him everything else was cool, would recommend a private room, or as private as your budget allows!
H. V.
It is in clean condition and very nice. There are a lot of events and things available. The breakfast is very lacking, though. We had a group and paid for breakfast tokens, but we're offered very minimal options. Our room is also set up a bit inconveniently with one of the beds almost completely blocking the sink.
R. H.
You can call it as my second home in London. I just love the place and the service is unbelievable. A great place in the centre of london and access to tube is just like 5 min walk ( russel square ). Moat of the beds are shared beds and i have stayed in 4, 8, and 10 bed rooms and i find it all great. Rooms are clean and the toilet are shared and are well cleaned. There is 24hrs hot water. There is even a bar in the main floor where you can chill your mind. I recommend this place to everyone who seeks a good stay and meeting new people
R. R.
Good value for money. 5 mins walk to Kings Cross-St Pancras rail terminals and underground. Friendly and helpful staff. Facilities clean and regularly cleaned. The 4 berth room was clean, bed linen fresh and bed was functional.
Did I get a good night's sleep? Not really : it's a 24/7 operation and my night was disturbed by late night/early morning arrivals in the room.
Note to self : take ear plugs and an eye mask to mitigate night time interruptions.

Adding some context for my rating -
I've now stayed in the Generator 3 times, 2 of those times I would say were terrible experiences, but not entirely the fault of the Generator. I stayed when it was during the heat wave and the place was an absolute sauna in the rooms. You wake up in a pool of sweat because there is no ventilation in the building, with all the firedoors etc in place and no air conditioning, it doesn't make for a very comfortable environment.
With that said, my last stay a few days ago was significantly more comfortable as the heat wave had broken and I felt cool enough to use the provided duvet. Overall, quite a good experience, with the exception of 2 things;
1. The broken elevator - lugging a heavy case up 4-6 flights of stairs was somewhat inconvenient on my last trip. Be prepared if you have a heavy case, it'll be a bit of a mission if the elevator is out. If I recall it was broken the first time I stayed here as well.
2. the showers are quite weird here. They don't really provide anywhere for you to get changed. The showers in the basement are probably the worst for this. At least on levels 3 and 4, I found they had some kind of changing area (though still separate from the actual shower), which you could use- but were quite busy.
Otherwise be prepared for a nudey/towel run. We had one of the guys changing in the dorm itself, which didn't bother me, but I know a couple of the girls were a little uncomfortable with it.
With all that to say, I stayed in approximately 20 odd hostels during my trip and the Generator (with the exception of the heat), came away as a good place to stay that is well located.
The beds were clean, bathrooms cleaned regularly and staff were very friendly.
L. J.
“We had a perfect stay at the generator hostel in London”
Th location is perfect. The bar is really nice. The staff members were really nice. The rooms were nice and clean. And you can leave your luggage In the hostel while you're touring the city. In short a perfect place to be
K. M.
Generally the hostel was clean and well organized.
Many details were cramped and broken, though not deal breakers, just frustrations.
The pictures were deceiving. Our two person room was incredibly tiny. The bunk bed, table, bathroom, shower, and everything had a footprint probably not much bigger than a queen bed.
It’s hard to find somewhere decent to stay in London. But I can’t say I would ever go back here.
A. L. W.
The Hostel had clean and nice facilities. It's in walking distance of the tube stations and all of the museums and attractions I was interested in seeing. The rooms are nice and the food is nice enough. The bar has good music and the overall theme of the hostel is amazing.
K. L. _.
The place is quite modern looking with basic facilities. Bed sheets are provided but shower towels, storage locks, etc are optional purchases. We arrived late in the night and had no issues checking in.
However, the toilet is really small and cramp. Also, the room we got did not have power outlets for every bed.
C. U.
This is a good place to stay for the price. Popular among the younger crowd. Lots of fun entertainment and bar/Cafe. Relatively close to the Russell Square Tube station. Good food options nearby. Be warned: there is no Air conditioning and can get quite hot. I would recommend bringing a fan of possible. Other than that great service.
T. M.
Ive stayed in this youth hostel several times over many years however on this occasion I was merely placing leaflets for work. It's very central and pretty clean given its purpose.
K. B.
I stayed at the London Generator on the middle leg of a trek across Europe during August. We stayed in a large mixed dorm with a shared bathroom. The hostel itself is gorgeous, with a fun, quirky design that really incorporates the London atmosphere. I would probably not return to stay in a large dorm, but I would be willing to give the private rooms a try due to the prices and location. Just don't eat the food!
The Good:
- The Location. Within a 10 minute walk to 3 major underground stations including King's Cross, Russell Square, and Euston, accessing all of the major attractions was a breeze.
- The Fan. While there was no AC in the room, we were given a floor fan which kept the temperature tolerable in the London summer. This was an improvement over the Generator Dublin.
- The Staff & Security. Everyone we talked to was friendly and helpful. Security is posted outside at night, limiting access to outsiders in the area which made me feel a lot better as a female traveler.
The Bad:
- The Bathrooms. The amount of heat and steam in the bathroom made it impossible to get fully dry. The hairdryer was broken, making getting dry even more difficult. Like any public toilet, the stalls were frequently clogged. However, staff were always immediately helpful once alerted to the problem.
- The Food. Possibly the worst part of the London Generator was the food. We attempted to eat here twice. The first time the London Burger was so dry I was only able to eat half of it before giving up. For the second attempt I tried the Coronation Burger but ended up throwing 3/4 of it away for the same reason.

It's a really nice place if you are staying alone. Everyone is nice and you can socialize at night in the bar with other people. The food is amazing and it's not that expensive. The only bad thing is the kitchen close at 11 pm so when I arrived late at the hotel I had to go to some restaurant around the corner to have dinner.
The hotel is close to King's Cross and St Pancras so it's pretty easy to get wherever you want to go.

Near the Russell Station so its quick into all of the tourist-y areas. Im not sure the hostel life is for me, but this place makes a great effort. The heat in my basement room was adequate to the point that I rarely used a blanket but my body is used to Phoenix, AZ. The bar and food was good. No fears as far as safety goes.
M. B. I.
Always a good option. I've been here 2 years ago, and i definitely came back. Perfect and comfortable rooms, very neat bathrooms and showers. Great also to have a bar inside the place. I don't recommend buying the breakfast
k. b.
My friend and I stayed for 2 nights in a 12 bed female dorm. Pros: SUPER clean, the bathrooms bedding and room was amazing, the food at the bar was great and cheap and the location was good. PROS: the room was SO COLD like at one point we were shivering I went and complained twice and I will say that they were helpful they sent us over an extra duvet each and then came and fixed the heat but we heard the same from other rooms. Not enough plug ins...we are in a 12 bed dorm and there are 4 sockets to share...luckily I brought a power bar but literally every girl in our room has asked to also plug into is as there aren't enough. Overall our stay was amazing I would probably stay again but the heat was a big issue and I'd suggest brining a power bar

We have stayed in two different generator hostels during our travels so far. Both were very different but very enjoyable experiences. Clean facilities that provide the basics. It seems most are very easy to access. Will plan to stay again in the future!
P. P.
Excellent location, you can't complain on that. The room were fine and clean and the external areas were also great. The breakfast was also particularly good. Only problem I had was that the bath water was not hot enough in the night, but for all I noticed it might have been a isolated incident
T. C.
Great location in central London, just 10 minutes from King's Cross/St. Pancras station, 10 minutes to Russell Square, close to Camden and Soho etc. Bunk lockers available in room and digital lockers in baggage rooms. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The bar and common areas are amazing and the restaurant at the bar serves the best pizza ever! Bathrooms are cleaned regularly. Did not give 5 stars as lift was out of service for several days which I found odd and inconvenient. Also, the basement room I was in (002) did not really have any windows so it was really dark.

I lived in hostels for the past two years.
I have experienced all kind of pleasant and unpleasant situations
I like to keep myself for myself and here at Generator, I could do this without problems.
Never suffered the invasive aggression of other travellers in search of establishing a relation of any kind obligatorily.
Here I enjoyed my privacy, wether sleeping in a 12 bunker bed room or in a 4 bunker bed room. Never pressed by any traveller to accept forced conversation. I felt free without obligations. And this in the world of incessant fake relations and instant soluble gossip made for instant consumption, without any real purpose other than inventing emotions that never really happen, it meant freedom to me.
Freedom to manage and enjoy my real emotions, my real moods, concentrate my thoughts in the real things that happened in my life, following my thoughts of plans and hopes for my nearest future.
I never had this level of freedom in any other hostel in the UK.
And since the travellers that stay in hostel now days are all of the same generation, all in the same frame of mind, this huge difference In personal freedom I enjoyed. only means one thing: ABSOLUTE PROFESSIONAL STAFF, COACHED BY COMPETENT PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT.

It was allright. Decent dorms, nice bar downstairs. But it's the small things. Showers don't work, you can only buy towels (not rent) for seven bucks, no safe storage in the room, can't bring alchohol In (I assume to protect their booming business downstairs)...but nicely priced at the end of the day.
ק. פ. פ.
A great place for young and young travelers. A very packed bar at the ground floor and the overall environment is busy, packed and vivid. The hallways smell, but the rooms and the bathrooms are pretty clean.
V.
Good value for the price. The location is great, and it is really easy to reach it by the tube. The personnel is helpful and the reply to your inquiries asap. Very clean and tidy. The reception and bar were great addition.
H. B.
Great location, staff was very friendly and keen to help, was very clean and had good facilities.
Rooms get hot in summer without aircon.
The food they sell could be better.
Overall it's a good place, I would definitely go back.
J. A.
Nice place. For young and not so young people. Many different room sizes according to your needs. Prices for small items like umbrellas, etc at the reception too much high. Cheaper one any shop even in Piccadilly circus. Breakfast could be better. The time before the last one was much better. This last time no so much variety.
G. A.
Great place to stay. Awesome vibes about the place. Clean rooms and well ventilated to ensure a comfortable stay, even during the heatwave. The bar/club downstairs played great music and the drinks were reasonable priced!
C.
A nice cafe and community feel. The rooms feel pretty clean with sheets provided, although beds are not made for you. Depending on what room you are in, bathrooms may be a ways down the hall.
H. M.
I did not spend much time there because I arrived at 1 in the morning and I left by 8 in the morning. But the beds are comfortable. The only thing is that the key cards and the key card papers would fall out pretty easily, so I lost my key in my room. Other than that it was nice
Ł. S.
Recommended for youngsters only, who can accept lower comfort but in turn get affordable place in rather good location. Not suitable for long stay. English breakfast is not served as early as it is said. Lockers are provided without padlocks - be prepared for some extra expenditures on top of the room price. Friendly atmosphere, clean and safe place.
B. B.
The location is excellent, 2 minute walk to a major tube station, St Pancras Kings Cross.
However the hostel rooms could have been cleaner, and the bathrooms better maintained. It rained for a whole day and the carpet was flooded, this didn't get cleaned up and the hallway smelled like wet socks for days afterwards. Also, many of the rooms are located in a basement, so no natural light.
The beds don't have a light lamp, charging port, privacy curtain, or compartment to put personal items, so if you don't mind basic facilities and a basic maintenance, this will be fine for you.
K. B.
I give Generator London 5 stars as it truly is the best Hostel for the price. Overall setup is great. Thoughtfulness in the light, shelf and 2 USB ports by the beds. Also, completely closed in under bed drawers are very great. These are a few factors thst keep me coming back. There is always somebody cleaning the facilities. With the amount of guests and use of the shower/ toilet facilities it is nice to see that they are always on top of the situation. The location is great as well. Russell Square Underground is just a 5 minute walk and The Brunswick Centre literally 2 minutes and you can shop at Waitrose for groceries or stop in many little spots for a meal. Bloomsbury is a great area all around with pubs (the Lamb being my fav), coffee spots galore and little sit down restaurants to satisfy any taste. Alternatively, you can walk to King's Cross/St.Pancras and catch the underground or train anywhere. Walk in over to Coal Drop Yards or The Granery for some great spots.
Again I can't recommend Generator London enough, The best for the money. I love the savings and the ability to spend much more on good food and great culture in London and come back to a comfortable place to sleep and recharge. This wouldn't be possible without Generator London.
J. Y.
I especially like the design of the hostel with lots of bright bold colors which brings out alot of fun and energy. Room was simple with bunk beds and small basin in room. There's common shower area and toilet on each floor. It's also located near both Russel square and king's cross station so it's easy to travel around even accessible to/fro airport by metro and you can get to other part of UK or Europe by train. Do remember to bring your own toiletries though.
D.
The Generator Hostel is really new.
The beds and rooms are basic, but really clean, and comfortable.
The hostel has a lot of rooms. A couple of floors, with more than 30 rooms, different sized.
There is not much sanitary comparing to the people, and when I used them, 2 of the 4 toilets where not flushing well.
There is wifi in the whole hostel, and the breakfast is complete and ok.
There is a bar, and some kind of a club. I thought it would be cheap, but the prices for drinks are pretty high (4£/beer)
For an hostel, it is quite good!
J.
Very good price when booked in advance and a very stylish, hipster vibe to it. Comfy beds and bedding to go with it! Only downside is the door makes a really loud noise when opening and closing - so when people are constantly in and out of the room it makes it hard to sleep. Skip breakfast ✌️
K. W.
Perhaps showing my age here, but the choice of evening music was dreadful. Mainly Spanish pop as most of the staff (at least when I was there) was Spanish speaking. Rooms were clean and warm and the breakfast was very nice (hence my 3 stars), but shame most of the tables weren't clean enough to enjoy it.
S. J.
Everything was great about this hostel apart from the room. We were put in the basement where there were no windows and it was hotter than hell. Literally couldnt sleep because of the heat. We were given two of the dustiest fans ever to try and cool the room down but it ended up blasting dusty hot air around the room. I took it upon myself to clean the fans with one of Their complementry towels and that did the trick, although the floor was now covered in a thick dust residue.
The showers and toilet facilities were clean, the Restaurant and bar areas were fantastic and the staff were extremely friendly. The hostel was also full of beautiful people, i felt a bit out of place!
M. J.
Nice rate what you pay and what you get. I have experience with Twin Room with Private Bathroom for 220£ for two nights. Fair services, quiet for sleeping. Except some small details it was perfects.
R. P.
First off (and this is for the Generator web master) pull out your smartphone and try to book a room. Bet you can't! Having said that it's among the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Clean, well staffed by friendlies, good location, everything you would need. Seriously great beef burger in the cafe. Maybe the best I've ever had. I've actually snuck in off the street when I wasn't booked there just to eat the burger!
T. E.
Modern hostel with nice bar that is open until late with even good parties (without being disturbing for sleeping). Very high security. Missing one star because: heating was way too hot and not adjustable (had to open windows which is a huge waste) and the number of plugs was insufficient.
I.
I had a really good time there, It's an amazing place where is possible to meet new friends! I stayed there in the meanwhile they were chancing the garnish in the hall so I had the chance to see the developments. The bedrooms are originals and there are a lot of rooms where the rule is "relax yourself"!
The price is accessible and you will not regret the money!
L. G.
I am afraid to say so, but your management should start walk around the premises. The Generator is always very busy and you should strive excellence, but you dont.
- The entire place is not properly cleaned or mantained and security is a warring factors.
- A quite area, were one can heat, read , interact or work withouth been blasted by loud music is missing.
- A place were customer could store their luggage for FREE when YOU move them is required.
- The only elevator should not be used by your personnel to move trolleys around during pick time.
- The elevator weight capacity is far too small and an engineer should find out the reason for which the cabin get squized when moving from the 4 to the 5 floor!
- In term of internal design, I would like to personally congratulate with the architet's studio responsable for what could be described as a disaster. Some exampls: The under ground floor male shower room, the ground floor space allocation, the way most rooms have been concived, etc.) .
- In term of risk management. did you ever run an evacuation exercise? If you do so, I suggest to place cameras in order to review what it would happen.
- The restaurant area is used by most to read, work, chat and strudy. How can you justify its closure due to a group dinner without considering: a) Organise the group dinner in the breakfast room. b) Allow the rest of your
clientele to use the breakfast room instead?
- The breakfast room as the potential to be the quite room for which many have been longing for; by avoiding food and beverages you would not have to clean it.
I would be around for a while if some of you whant to have a chat.
Regards. Luca Gozzi
- Staff is efficient, welcoming and hard working.
- Food and beverages; you are loosing so much due to bad quality and high prices.
- Music is often above decibel scale legal requirement and it should be played in one portion of the ground floor only.
- In terms of lound music; have you consider the long term damage to the ears of your employees?
- The place is dirty and not often scrutinised, possibly due to lack of personnel.
K. R.
Got a private room for 4 people, room was clean though no hot water in our room. Bought breakfast for one day and breakfast was really simple, eggs some bread and cereal. Overall a good place to stay for cheap. Close to the underground tube.
O. M.
Awesome place. The rooms are enough for those who stay all day exploring, warm and comfortable beds. The public bathroom and showers are cleaned regularly. Public spaces are in the ground floor, which includes buffet breakfast in the mornings, beer, snacks and food
J. K.
One of the better hostels I have stayed at. The front desk is open 24 hrs and are really nice. Theres a bar on the first level that is open til 3am with reasonable drink prices. They serve food too (also reasonably priced). They have to cable in the bar area which is nice to watch football (American soccer) games and the like. Each floor is a different movie theme. Rooms were small but comfortable. Beds, sheets, and rooms were clean. The bathrooms were well kept. The showers on the 5th floor had waterfall shower heads that were really nice! It was a 20 minute walk to Camden which is where all of the night life is in this part of town. The hostel was on the louder and more social side than usual but there were no issues with late night noise on the 5th floor. It's a 10 minute walk to the main train station (st. Pancras) which made our early morning train to Paris super easy to catch.
K. B.
A good hostel. A lot of guards in the night to secure only guests of the hotel enjoy the nice facilities (bar, launch, etc). Attracting teen-agers as guests can be annoying when they decide to have fun banging on random room doors at 1am. Location next to the station is perfect.
S. P.
The hostel is not worth its price. The rooms are small, nearly no possibilities to put your belongings in the room (no shelves, just a Box under the bed which you can hardly put out because the room is so small). In the bathrooms there are also no real possibilities to put your clothes anywhere. So taking a shower is much effort.
Moreover, the hostel wants money for everything. Putting a suitcase in the locker Costs 2 pounds per hour.
The only two positive things: the hostel ist clean and central.
R. V.
Clean, friendly, trendy, great part of town. I was in a private room with shared bathrooms, so I can't speak to the dorms. Lockers for every person in the room.
Struggles were only the one light in the room (no individual reading lamp or anything), and the bathroom was really far from the room.
J. T.
Staff excellent as perusal. Rooms clean. But, and there is a big BUT! Please change the playlist in the bar area, its vile! Also have an area where there is NOT music blasting out the speakers. For the record this is the best place to stay in London.
S. M.
Best hostel in London. Such comfy beds, fun hip funky vibes, great interior design and beautiful furnishings, and really cool staff. Best week in a hostel ever. I wish I could have stayed longer.
A. T.
Very good as usual, my go to place when in London.
B.
Traveling solo I enjoyed my stay ay the Generator. Great location, 5 minutes walk to the tube which brings you everywhere. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly, there was good service and friendly people. I recommend the free walking tour and grabbing a drink at the Generator bar.
R. L. C.
Small room but many other perks. The price could be a little lower though. The atmosphere is that of a youth hostel but the clients varied, it made me think of a youtuber's vlog hotel. The music and noises didn't reach our room (3rd floor), the noise isolation is over the top, surprisingly! Woudl come back gladly.
B. T.
The place was pretty nice for a hostel, and the bar was kind of cool. Although one or two of the staff members weren't the nicest (especially the night time security), majority of the people there were nice. Good area as well.
A. M.
As good quality hostels go, this one is pretty delightful. We stayed here twice in the quad share and twin share rooms and were pretty impressed both times. The whole place has been themed differently for each level, so you could be staying on willy wonka or James Bond etc with hilarious symbols to match. Each bed has a lockable compartment and the whole place was generally clean and friendly. My only gripe was the one small elevator for everyone as it is quite a few floors high and with luggage it takes a while. Security includes asking for room keys after dark. There was a club inside but they manage to soundproof it quite well. The food served was priced ok for London and was exactly what you expected (although the hours were a bit funny) and there is the equivalent of a concierge/travel booking agent inside too.
L. W.
The rooms are great and there is plenty of space in them, but the staff are a bit rude. Especially that one Australian girl behind the main reception desk. I haven't seen her smile once.
E. D.
What can I say, clean, modern rooms, friendly atmosphere with helpful staff in a unbeatable location at a very good price. Deffo worth your money. I was a little apprehensive after seeing reviews regarding the washrooms' cleanliness, but they are absolutely fine throughout my stay.
M. M. G. -. C. &. J.
I stayed for 8 days over here. Well maintained rooms. Bar, store, locker, smoking zone, everything is available inside. Near to Russel Square and King cross station. Nice experience with Generator Hostel. During my next visit, definitely I will prefer it.
E. S.
Really cool vibe. Bedrooms were clean and tidy, great having the lockers under the bed. Staff were friendly and organised. This was my first time staying in a hostel and I will definitely be stopping there again!
T. L.
Very good value for the money, I think is perfect for solo travellers for all the activities they organise in the bar. The 4 beds room were confortable. I lost the key to the padlock of my bed and they were quick to find a solution. I’d definitely repeat in this chain.
Q.
The hostel experience was ok. The biggest problem is that the bathroom is shared and at some moments it can be very uncomfortable to use it ( the bathroom is cleaned every day btw). You unlock the doors using a card and if that card comes in contact with a magnet ( an oyster card or the phone for example) it won't work and you have to reset it at the reception. I had that problem several times when I was staying there. The staff was nice and polite and they would help me out whenever I needed help with something. The security guards were ok but I heard that they were impolite to some other guests there. Close to the entrance there is a disco club which played lively music ( mainly Spanish songs and deep house) which I kinda liked. Location is amazing ( the only thing worth 5 stars) and the hostel is close to everything.
And finally the rooms were very small considering that the hotel was an ex police station so the rooms are the size of one jail cell. I think that the hostel needs to spend more money on upgrading the rooms. My recommendation for the best experience there is that you book private rooms because the shared ones can be uncomfortable at some times. And that's it peacee✌️
S. M.
Great location super handy to tubes. Staff are mostly lovely and friendly. Comfortable bed however rooms, particularly near windows and mirrors has really bad mold and 5th floor toilets block up multiple times a day.
R. D.
It's hidden and the toilets are always clogged. The staff is nice though and each floor has a different theme. The showers have never ran out of hot water or pressure.
B. F.
The hostel is relatively comfortable, yet I wouldn't go back. The decor is pretty awesome and the common areas are really cool, high point of my stay. Yet the bathrooms are outside the room, and not very clean. The showers themselves are actually amazing, with excellent water pressure. I stayed in a dorm and could hear the music from the bar updtairs quite clearly, and it was definitely more of a club, with DJs and everything. What also was a disappointment was that they only let 2 additional guests in, which isnt very smart seeing as they would be soending money at the bar and weren't allowed to go anywhere else anyways. The location is good, but there is quite a walk to kingscross, specially with bags and such. The staff was friendly, but the security was quite aggressive and rude, both to my friends (when thry were trying to get in through the guest entrance) and I. Not the coziest place, but alright if there are not any other options.
B. K.
Love it ! My first time at hostel and it was really really great the stuff was amazing and kindly.
I take room with 8 partners.. and they was really nice.. thanks god :)
Great vibs bar and play room.. good food.
Near the hostel 7 m' have coffe and restrants.. and train..
Will be back.
M. B.
Here you'll have accommodations to your most basic needs: a bar, a luncheonette, resting area, WiFi and of course bedding, but expect overpriced beer (at +300 year-old Cheshire Cheese it was half the price) and people going in and out of your shared room at an overtly fast rate and they usually don't bother to know your other roommates. If you have cheap housing it's ok, but don't expect too much from it, as a youth hostel is nice.
C. K.
Large hostel, very professionally run and the staff very helpful. Dorm rooms were what I expected and clean. Because it is so large and many groups come through you don't get an intimate feel. Still people are generally very plesant throughout.
M. K.
Cheap laundry, compared to the rest of Europe at least. Good location, small bedrooms, lots to do on main level.
B. M.
Fantastic hostel. Bloody fantastic. Great vibe, clean rooms, spacious and well thought out, tucked away a bit from the street so offers a bit more privacy, and just all round just good accommodation. Location is sublime and being two and a half blocks from Russel Square Underground station which is on the Picadilly line which is one that runs from Heathrow makes getting to and from the airport a breeze. Possibly only area of let down is facilities are a little lack luster. Toilets can occassionally be a touch dirty but the main issue is the showers. Imagine a room with four cubicles in it and a drain in the middle of the room. This means if you leave your clothes and/or towel hung on the back of the door splashing can some times leave it wet after the shower. Then trying to dry off and get back into clothes in the cubicle is another hurdle as you struggle to dry off properly as water is still on the ground and clothes get wet. There would SURELY be a better system to the shower set up but if you can handle that inconvenience then I'd STRONGLY suggest coming to stay. All else makes up for odd shower conditions
C. M.
Clean rooms, noise from the bar doesn't seep up to the upper floors much (at least on floor 4), and they offer facilities or items that you may have forgotten such as towels. The bar is kind of expensive and they stop serving food too early however.
C. A. M.
This hostel is great. The stuff can speak a lot of languages so it's really easy to communicate with them in your own language. Shared rooms are very good and clean, and so are the bathrooms. Showers are great and you always have hot water. Plus, the facilities are also really cool. There is also a travel shop where you can ask for information about the city and they explain everything to you.
The best thing about Generator is where it is located. It's near from King's Cross and St Pancras station and 5 minutes from the British Museum. This means you can go walking to every place in the city from the hostel.
s. c.
I reckon most people who stay here is because its there first time to London/ Europe. its cheap and close to the Main central station. The vibes downstairs in the bar, everyone is very clicky so they stay in there groups. Customer service, there polite but you can see there tired. Rooms are squashy.
O. A.
The Continental breakfast is lackluster, and the shared bathrooms aren't in the best condition. I'm also not sure if the pricing for food and drink are reasonable or overpriced. The hostel itself is beautiful and the staff is friendly
R. R.
Rooms themselves are quite nice, bit small but still cosy. The bar and food area have a nice little atmosphere, but out heater was blasting all night, which was horrible, and the 'continental breakfast' was just cereals, and ham and cheese sandwiches, not worth the £8.50
M.
Nice place to stay, even for a quick week-end stop. The staff is kind and the common room is always ready to receive you, as well at the end of the day as at 6AM when everyone is still asleep.
J. M.
This is a really cool place, with a bar and a club, and people are very nice. But if you want to sleep, it will be quite difficult before 3am, as you can hear the music from the club until then, even when you're staying in the 3rd floor... The basses were almost unbearable for us.
E. O.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's acceptable. Nice, even. Definitely has a dorm feel (and smell!) so consider that. Location is alright - definitely close to transit so that's nice. British museum is close too. Breakfast isn't worth the 8 pounds, check out one of the great nearby cafes instead.
S. K.
Good value for money and great location.
But there’re strage sounds like gunshots in all beds. And the heater hasn't been working for days, and I heard the roar of the heater running every night.
N. N.
It's not bad at all, but the things is the guy toilet at the girls side and the girls toilet must go out to another part of the room, must pass by the lift, it's too far from my room. The toilet shower tap some don't have water that flow out, no water at all.The room is okay, but a bit small, insufficient of spaces.
M. C.
Booked and checked in all online which was really useful. The generator hostels are always very clean and good overall. If you don't like big groups avoid it because you probably going to find them there. #hostel #cheapbed
O. P.
It was generally standard hostel except one light wouldn't turn off so we had to sleep in the light and I had to try a couple of showers before I found one that produced warm water and didn't sound like a dying animal. Also sometimes the door keys stopped working. Other than that no complaints.
K. V.
Good hostel with friendly staff, bar 'till 3 and good meals all day! 10 min walk from St Pancras and 5 min walk to underground (picadilly line) so therefore the location has very good connections!
Bring your own towels and soap although you can buy everything there as well!
L. F.
Rooms: have lockers underneath the bed, comfortable beds, bad pillows, my room only had 2 outlets for 6 ppl, new furniture made of metal, labeled beds
Location: couldn't really ask for better. It's right in between the tube stops Russell sqr and Kings Cross. A short walk to both. It's not near any major major attractions in the city but everything's a short ride away. Highly recommend an Oyster card for your stay. The fares are half the normal price.
Staff: top notch and helpful, even have security guards outside at night checking that you have a key 🔑
Bar: has a pool table, a DJ booth shaped like the red double decker buses, and CHEAP drinks. £3.5 for a well/simple drink
Restaurant: this is the major reason I did not give this place 5 stars. Do not eat here. The food is mediocre and over priced. If you must eat here only do breakfast as it is a least a bit cheaper (still mediocre food though).
Otherwise this hostel was great and had all the bells and whistles. Seems like a very good place to meet people and make friends as well.
A. K.
The location is the primary reason that I decided to stay at this hostel and the next one being that it is a Generator Hostel. The generator hostel chain is very well known to backpackers and it needs no praises again. Want to stay here? Definitively stay here.
L. D.
Clean, secure rooms in a massive hostel. Good location for getting around London. Big queues when check-in opens, so try wait an hour if you can. Plenty of one night stayers while I was there. The Hostel bar goes off on Friday nights with giant Jenga and drink specials.
D.
As the original Generator Hostel, I understand that this branch would be different, older, but it has a lot to learn from its newer siblings. I didn't mind the communal bathrooms as long as I could locate them from my room, consider adding more signs with arrows pointing the way to bathrooms and exits. Electrical outlet on each bed is standard at all hostels, please join the party.
PRO:
Very clean and affordable
Chic Lobby and hangout area
Great bar
Helpful staff
Great location, 10 min walk from King's Cross/St Pancras Int'l
Lastly, the safety of London may be beyond your power so, thank you for providing the night guards.
K.
Nice clean and stylish accommodation at a short distance from the main underground lines - but bring extention cables. There were about 2 plug sockets to share between 8 people. Other than that, a nice stay.
I. B.
Price per night is dependant on how big a room you share with others, not a bad price. However in my 4 bed room. There were 2 bunk beds, and a sink with a mirror and a few power points. In today's age where everything is charged via USB you'd think that there would be plenty of USB ports around the place. Not really, there are power points around, but no us unless it's in the charging station that you are charged for. I'd expect there to be at least 1 USB/ power point for your personal bed area where it's within reach as you sleep, but alas this is not the case. People sleeping on the top bunk, if they have their phone plugged in and the alarm is going off, must climb down from their bunk, walk around the bed to turn it off. The main common areas are amazing though, small cozy bar during the day and a larger night club open in the evenings. Would I recommend it? I'd strongly suggest people to consider it when looking for cheap accommodation in London.
A. G.
A great place to mingle with people and kick start the night.
Drinks are cheap and they show quite a lot of sports on the screens.
The one thing is the rooms are really small and they allow minors into the place.
It's very centrally located and close to the tube.
A. D.
I spent 4 nights in a 12-person room. The room was a bit cold, dark and the room needed a fresh air because cant open window. Besides everything's okay. Good localization. Great people.

This chic, modern hostel is a 10-minute walk from London King's Cross train station and 2.2 miles from the Madame Tussauds London waxworks museum.
The stylish and colourful shared dorm-style rooms all include free WiFi, and have shared bathrooms. Private rooms with en suite or shared bathrooms are also available.
There's a hip bar/restaurant serving pub food, and a cafe, as well as a cinema and a lounge area.

The common areas have come across as really cool to the point that the Generator doesn't feel like a hostel at all from my experience! The Central London based location's great for easy access to the transport network plus tourist sights! Oh and I appreciated the DJ, tattoo and security guys always having said hi to me!
Nelson, Sam and Feruh have been incredible as managers I feel. Pedro, Laura Emma and Fernando from reception have also been consistently friendly, warm and welcome towards me too - e.g. I appreciated Pedro going easy on me when I didn't initially recognise nor remember his name. Gilli, Gustavo, Luca, Maria, Alex, Marisa, Geraldine, Emma, Katrina and Sylvia have also been lovely to me too. (sorry in case I accidentally left out anyone's name by accident).
Thank you for your time so far - I appreciated it,
Raza =)

I had a bunk in a 4-bunk room. It was reasonably comfortable and pleasant enough for the price. Lockers are solid. Really wish they had hot water for drinks available around the clock, but that's a minor gripe.
S. H.
Cheap and easy. Only stayed for one night, but the staff were beyond nice and helpful. Amazing atmosphere during the evening
J. B.
Good value for money and friendly staff
F. S.
Great staff and location. Spent four days in two different 4-bed rooms. Simple but comfortable beds, pretty quiet rooms for a hostel. Good value for money.
A. P.
Lovely, cozy hostel with pleasant accommodations and even more pleasant staff. If you stay here with a wheelchair though staying on the basement floor is a good idea in my opinion. All the lifts and access is down there.
K. C.
Was a great, affordable place to stay. Cleanliness could be slightly improved for hallways and bathrooms. Security was fine. Wished they had individual outlets and lights for the beds.
D. M.
Great location, decent room. Not great that our room on the 2nd floor smelled like wet paint at first, but it seems to have gone away now. We're happy to stay here.
D. D.
the lifts weren't working at the time I stayed which meant humpfing a suitcase up several flights of stairs. On the plus side, good basic hostel, not too far from a tube station, and nice public areas
L. G.
Staff was quite nice. Very good communication. Nice location, quite one. Breakfast was okay. Toilets, showers and rooms could be cleaner, the whole place smells on mould...
C. S.
Very nice, clean place. I wish there were a fridge to put groceries, and if there were more space in the showers. Aside from that the bathrooms were great, showers were hot and lovely, and the beds were decent. Worth it for the cost.

I enjoyed my visit at this Generator Hostel. The room was shared with two Germans and me and my brother, which went great. Nice staff, nicely located close to Metro (King's Cross St. Pancras) and within walking distance to the rest of London Centre.
M. B.
Nice rooms. Bathrooms are shared on the floor. Nice but not sufficient hooks for my liking when I was trying to hang all my clothes. Beds have a privacy screen which is nice.
D. S.
Very impressed. I don't stop at hostels very often but this place is great. Clean rooms, clean bathrooms, and excellent social spaces downstairs. Security is also very good.
K. S.
Very, very small 4 people dorms with comfy and hygienic beds; those dorms for more people looked bigger; small but mainly clean bathrooms; average breakfast with disgusting coffee (but very good local places nearby, so don't book the breakfast at check in!); well located and connected; a lot of security at night checking everybody, nice common areas to chill out
M. R.
Good located and clean hostel. Unfortunately there are no plugs directly at the bunk and the doors can only be shut loudly, a little bit more damping would definitely enhance the large share experience.
E. R.
By far one of my favorite hostels. This place is hugeeeeeeee. They have a nightclub/bar inside of the hostel where the dj spins from the head of an old bus. Very cool hip and urban. Highly recommended for young backpackers. Don't think it's great for families.
j. t.
What can say, more than that it was a great stay. They have the best looking women travelling there which is great for me, because people say i look Matthew Mcconaughy in Dallas buyers club. Great bar and atmosphere where its great for ugly men like myself to try catch a glance from these exotic womem. The staff were the best too. The was one blone girl from AUSTRALIA who was super helpful when i was stressed about losing some items. Think her name was Sheila. There was a tall Ozzie bloke who served at the bar who always had a smile on his face, which puts you in a good mood. Was not to keen on his Mostache though, looked like it was stuck on with pencil shavings and glue. Think his name was Steve. Honestly all jokes aside what a fantastic place to have fun and stay in decent clean and comfortable beds. The only thing they should change is their food and beer prices (i hope this is done by my next stay) Don't charge 4 quid for towels either. X
D. M.
Nice place. Full with life. If they could keep the toilets- shower better. Also the cost for things such is flip flops or towel is very expensive.
L. G.
It’s my favorite hostel in London! But it isn’t calm.. I recommend it if you are traveling with friends and want to meet people. The amenities are great! I’d gone two times and I am going to visit it again!!
S. J.
Its ok.
No kitchen provided and the breakfast is a rip off. If you want an english breakfast just spend 10 min walking around london and find a real one thats better and cheaper.
Beds good.
Wifi good.
Bathrooms ok.
My room was close to the bar and you could hear the base and people jumping and dancing, so that was a pain in the ass. But i guess its only a few rooms.
Would stay again.
L. T.
Location is great and the hostel itself is really cool a lot of places to hang out, has its own bar/club and is very clean but only gets 4 stars because it's a little pricey especially for not having air conditioning! The rooms are like saunas!
M. B.
Best hostel I stayed so far. Very clean, nice location and cool atmosphere. The dormitory was really comfortable as well. However, the staff could be a little bit more friendly....
D. Q.
Great place as hostel, the bath rooms are only close to the elevator so it sucked for my group to live at the end of the hall rooms, otherwise it has good security, maintainence and support when you needed.
J. H.
The hostel is well situated, just a couple of minutes from King's Cross. Rooms are clean, bathroom could be better. However, there are no plugs near the beds, only at each side of the room.
N. M.
One of the best hostels I've stayed at. Great environment, very clean, friendly staff. Only downside was that they didn't provide a lock like other hostels I've stayed at have, and they grossly overcharge for them in their shop.
I. B.
Amazing stuff, amazing service! The rooms are really good for the price and the bar is the best I've ever been comparing to the fact that it's "only" a hostel! Would do it again anytime! Thanks guys :))
N. A.
The atmosphere is definitely the best thing about this hostel.
Great decor and very helpful reception workers.
Average and modest rooms+bathroom, and the breakfast is quite small for its price.
T. H.
Nice Hostel, really near by the next Underground station (Russel Square as well as Kings Cross). Rooms were Clean, bathrooms most of the time aus well. Breakfast ia pretty ok, but grab something in the city is always a good option. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
j. o.
The location is very strategic and convenient to travel around. However, women toilet/shower need some renovation tho - majority of the toilet and shower doors are spoilt.
K. A.
Location is superb, just right in the City centre. Very clean rooms and good facilities. Prices are also acceptable. Friendly Staff on reception, bar on ground floor. However, shower and WC is shared.
Z. B.
It was nice and clean but it wasn't really a big party hostel. I felt like I was in fort Knox the security was too much and not using the normal entrance at night going through a back way was strange and awful. It took me 10mins to find my room and the again to find the bathroom. No assistance was given. There is also a photobooth there which was a nice touch however was out of order the whole time and didn't look like it was getting fixed any time too. This was a bit annoying as we stayed at the generator in Barcelona and they had an out of order photobooth too. I found it also strange that the shared rooms do not have an age ristriction as a man in my room had a walking stick? Look I personally I tried to make the best of it and had a good time but would never stay at the generator again
C. W.
Cheap and cheerful. Decent bar
M. K.
Great place, and friendly atmosphere, good food, well located near underground and musea, most staff are very nice and helpful, generally clean, but some maintenance needed for rooms, showers and toilets.
C. S.
Fairly average hostel, no power by beds. No A/C. Stayed in a room in the basement, was hot. Lots of fans in the room however. Wifi was good. Plenty of areas to socialise.
M. Q.
Great location, within walking distance to King's Cross Station and Rusell Square Station, comfy beds. The washrooms are kinda disappointing though, showers were a bit dirty. Flipflops are a must when showering.
E. L.
Went in mid-March and the rooms were kind of cold. Staff were nice but had to wait an extremely long time to check-in due to the party ahead of us having issues (around 30 minutes wait). Washrooms were clean, Wi-Fi was excellent.
K.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Rental lockers available in the basement (hourly and $8/day). Room is clean. Big drawer underneath the bed for storage (bring ur own lock)
A. H.
Was okay for a hostel near the center of London.
C. W. (.
The staff here is friendly and the rooms are comfortable. Beer isn't terribly priced for London. While I was there a few shower doors on my level were broken however.
V. P.
Just don't be too many or take four places room.
The place overall is a fancy meet-up spot, but be aware of common bathrooms and showers. Very young, and quite international.
E. N.
Really good, central location. Higher quality hostel. The only issue I ran into was the fact that there were no plugs to charge my phone near my bed. Decent overall though!
N. T.
Great atmosphere, the shared rooms and bathrooms were always kept clean.
For what you pay they offer value, very central location as well.
C. L.
An incredible hostel, very well run, the layout and design is very modern, the hostel has lots of very chill out rooms as well as a nice bar. Rooms are basic enough but well equipped.
M. H.
Great hostel! Beds are really comfortable, the bar is nice, usb power at the beds, can't fault this place at all. Location is also good!
S. B.
A very good base to stay as its very centralised in London easy access to get to the local attractions. The accomadation has nice colourful clean rooms with comfy beds and clean bedding as well as this it has realky good facilities with showers toilets and changing rooms and a bar a chillout room and a restraunt as well. there is also a gift shop and a travel shop with tours that can be booked as well as having 2 entrances one for night and one for daytime. There is also disabled access as well as other facilities for the disabled including an elevator
v. b.
overall a great place to stay and a great price and with great staff. my only issue was that the showers and toilets were very dirty.
R. E.
I stayed for one night at the hostel with 5 other people. Was really straightforward and I had a good time. I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind sharing a room with other people / the whole hostelling experience.
K. C.
Our room space quite small. We don't have enough space to put our luggages (triple& quarter room) . But hostel's location was not far to King Cross station and near by City spots
J. I. S. C.
perfect place to stay for a few days or more. It has good places to spend your time working or having a coffee or beer. It has a bar also. Although it has small rooms, it is comfortable
R. H. (.
Had a one night stay at the generator. Really impressed with the facilities. Cafe, bar, cinema, tourist info. We stayed in a single room with a bunk bed. Take a padlock for the lock box under the bed!

Thank you Generator London for a great 2-night stay in a 4-bed dorm in the end of January, 2016.
Your hostel is really great and you've got quite a few things going for you:
+ Very clean, everywhere (rooms, bathrooms, communal areas, etc.)
+ Cool decor
+ Great atmosphere
+ Very safe feeling - guard on duty all day, extra security during night
+ Comfortable beds
+ Very affordable pricing
+ Great location
+ Cool cafe, restaurant and TV room
+ Cool themes for the floors (different for each floor, ranging from Wonderland to Ali G)
+ Friendly staff
+ Easy booking and check-in process
+ Sink in each dorm
+ Lockable bed-rollers for keeping your stuff safe
However, quite a few things could easily be improved upon:
- Very heavy doors to the rooms (guaranteed to wake people in the room up when opening/closing)
- Too dimly lit corridors
- Too brightly lit rooms (possible to regulate, but does not go dim enough)
- No individual bedside lights in dorms (so if someone comes in at night, while the others are asleep, they basically will wake the whole room up, as they need to turn on the ceiling lights
- No adjustment of heater/AC
- Very loud music in the cafe (not exactly a great conversation area)
- The music from the cafe can be heard in the room (not a big problem for most people, most days, as people staying here are generallly young and go party themselves, but it would be nice if they wouldn't play THAT loud monday a 1 AM - people are passed out partying during the wekeend by then)
- The TV room is showing TV, whilst playing loud music (lound music does indeed seem to be a recurring theme @ Generator)
So a few recommendations for the guys and gals at the otherwise excellent hostel, Generator London:
-> Make the sound of the doors being closed lower - great for not waking sleeping people up in dorms
-> Increase the light intensity in the hallways
-> Decrease the light intensity in the rooms - or at least make it go lower in adjustment
-> Add individual bedside lights in dorms (even more awesomely, some plugs so people can charge their devices while in bed)
-> Make heater/AC adjustable
-> Play less loud music during the day in the cafe - it'd be great to be able to have a conversation there :)
-> Play lower music during non-party nights
-> Stick to only playing TV audio in the TV room (Trust me - people will bring their own music if they want music ;) )
Hope this feedback is helpful! Fixing just a few of the points, would really increase the comfort of your place. But once again, thanks for a great stay in your awesome, affordable and well-situated hostel!
Best,
V. B.
It is a nicely located hostel (10min from kings cross) but I felt that could be cleaner (my bed sheets were brown stained by something). Friendly staff and good showers.
L. A.
Rooms are very very small but I guess you get what you pay. They have a bar restaurant inside of the hostel with many options for drinks, so for this 4 stars
A. A.
Rooms are good. Staff is very welcoming. Center of the city and near train station. Sitting area, movie room, photo booth, play area and bar, cafeteria, laundry, free wifi, spacious floor and bathrooms
A. “. T.
Great positition in the center of London. Underground station king's cross a short walk away. Clean rooms and facilities for small money. Good bar and personnel. Can only recommend.
A. T.
Interesting place to stay in a great location. Wouldn't recommend it if you are a solo female traveler though... the bar can get a bit unmanageable.

I loved my stay at Gen London
Good food, ambience and great people
Close to Kings Cross, close to shops
Personally, what left the biggest impression
Is one person from reception
It’s the small things that can’t be bought
You might not think what you did is a lot
Trust me it was more more than enough
Gen People, truly the best one you’ve got
I can never repay you and am not sure what I should write
I hope you will settle for these stars, shining bright
Of the infinite from the night sky
I picked these five just for you
Afraid that I was doomed to sleep under the stars
This place was the only option my budget allows
I had nowhere else to go
Waited in the long, slowly moving, queue
Ten more people in front of me, all waiting on you
As soon as I came up you smiled
And earned your first star
In the first 3 second you left me in awe
You are all I could and still do think of
Sorry, I didn’t listen to a word you said
Almost got lost on the way to my bed
The rooms are small, but cosy
A beast, my roomie, was snoring
Thank you for moving me to another room
Thank you for putting up with my grumpy mood
Thank you for the new room key card
Here, please have your second star
Roses are red, Violets are blue
Generator's toilets smell like poo
More unpleasant things I have to write about and could
But YOU tipped the scale so hard in favour of good
The bar is nice though, so is the cafe
Great people you can meet during your stay
And have a sip of wine with after a long day
Perhaps a little bit too long
With music blasting from the ground floor
Rushed down; I didn't really mind the tune
Complained just so I could see you
The third and the fourth stars are for all the stuff
Made up because the time spent with you was not enough
I confess that there were no bed bugs
And thank you for the ear plugs
Off all the staff I met you were the best, by far
Thank you for being all that you are
For the rest of the staff I can say the same
:* for the Blonde (sorry can’t remember her name)
What I can't describe in this review
How lucky Generator is to have you
The fifth star I can only borrow you, because it's mine
Thank you for being my shining star
I was sad once my time here came to an end
To come back I definitely intend
To every traveller or a lonely soul I can recommend
A day or two here and you won’t leave without a friend
Not without your faults, still, I am grateful
Thank you Generator, for giving me Fernando
M. L.
Super hip hostel, but one of the older Generator hostels. There isn’t any plug next to your bed. Also don’t come here if you’re trying to sleep because the music travels through until 3am.
C. B.
Really good value for money, perfect for both a quiet stay and a party stay. Daily tours, great breakfast buffet and cheap bar.
Close to transport.
