P.Room was tiny but really nicely done with some good touches. Bathroom a lot more spacious and comfortable. Hotel itself very quiet considering location and shutters made for a good night’s rest. Pantry was basic: tea, coffee, a single apple and a sink that didn’t work to refill kettle. Breakfast, even if included, isn’t all included. Unfortunately staff didn’t tell us this whatsoever and my card was charged unbeknown to me. Disappointing but stay itself was very enjoyable.
T.Stayed for a weekend - received great platinum recognition. Rooms are beautiful with soundproof windows - you literally hear nothing from outside. The pantries on each floor are nice. Breakfast had very good options. The close proximity to 6 tube lines is perfect to get anywhere quickly within London. Will definitely come back.

2. Doors slam all night. If you get a room by the lifts, immediately go ask for a different room. This is an easy fix, they have things that soften doors shutting so kinda think there is no excuse for this....

C.Needed a hotel for one night as I was leaving on the EuroStar from St. Pancras early in the morning. Whilst, the room was small, it was very well appointed. Loved the community kitchen at the end of the hallway...it was perfect for a cup of tea and a piece of Victoria Sponge. Yes, the hotel is pricey, but I felt worth it. Will definitely be staying there again.

J. R. B.Hidden gem in London. Fully unexpected. The rooms are vert well designed and the environment is very quiet, even for being very close to a very crowded spot.
They work with top gyms (10 mins walking distance) and daily passes are complementary. If you like training properly, rest well and be in a location close to everywhere this is your place.
S.Let me start by saying the physical property is beautiful, very well kept, and conveniently located next to the train station. If you're a Platinum and opt for the free breakfast, you won't be disappointed. In addition, the gentleman at concierge was incredibly responsive and went out of his way to be helpful during our two-night stay. That's where the positives end and the negatives begin. From the check-in process to the rooms and amenities, there is absolutely no reason this hotel should be considered a Category 5 hotel.
Upon arrival, we had to wait in a fairly long line to check in, since there are only two receptionists in a very small lobby. In an attempt to make the experience more personal, they also ask you to wait to be escorted to your room by the concierge. This is nice in theory, but we would have preferred to just get to our room and not wait the extra 15 minutes.
Our next disappointment was with the incredibly small room (even for London). As you'll see from some of the other posts, there is almost no space to store or hang your clothes. This proves to be extremely inconvenient when you're staying multiple nights. On top of that, we were placed in a room that faced the roof of the train station, which is somewhat surprising for a Platinum guest. If you need to iron your clothes, you'll need to call reception to have an iron/ironing board delivered to your room -- not a deal breaker, but annoying nonetheless.
Now to the property amenities (or lack thereof). Other than a business center, bar, and restaurant, the GNH doesn't offer any other amenities. We knew this when we booked the reservation, but just be warned that you'll have to travel off-property if you want to work out.
All in all, we don't think the GNH meets the standards that we've come to expect from SPG, so we probably wouldn't stay here again.
G. H.Nice property in a traditional building right next to King's Cross station. The biggest challenge was locating the entrance as it's facing away from the station and is more of a house door that is labeled with the name of the restaurant. Inside you can't tell which way the lobby is and if you spend too much time checking, you'll get hit by the automatic door that swings towards you.
Rooms are nice, but very small - you'd be hard pressed to find room for more than a roll-aboard suitcase, let alone its content, meaning you'd be living out of and climbing over your suitcase at the same time.
Rooms aren't really setup to do any work: low lighting and a tiny table that doesn't have any power outlet nearby. The in room safe won't even hold an iPad.
Shared pantry is a nice touch - you can grab a chocolate or a cake.
I like unusual properties, but there's a fine line between style and quirkiness, and neither should come at the expense of convenience. For business travelers, nearby St. Pancras Renaissance may be a better fit.
n. g.Love this place! It is a boutique hotel but part of SPG! It along with kings cross station and you might miss the hotel if you don't look at the Name / hotel signs! Rooms are small compared to other SPG but has a beautiful style to it! May not the best place to stay if you want a business set up in your room! The staff were top notch! They even recommended places to visit and were extremely courteous! One of the best customer service! They have an open pantry in each floor with snacks, tea, coffee 24/7. One of the most affordable mini bars I have experienced! They have a cool and secure door service / access to your rooms!

S.We booked for an overnight stay for a celebration in the brilliant St.Panc area. It was a surprisingly quiet oasis in the middle of town. Simply stylish and elegant. Excellent service, beautiful building and incredible location. Cannot fault it.

The downstairs hotel bar is small and swanky priced around 10-15$ cocktails and 20$ glasses of Macallan 12, which is a bit on the higher side compared to the nearby bars.
The room I stayed in was cozy, and there was a lounging chair and table to work on. As someone who appreciates a good bathroom, this was the only downside to the hotel. My room did not have a shower and only had a tub. This would've been OK if there were curtains or if the tub was placed in the corner instead of the middle, so of course water from bathing gets everywhere.
Overall, one of the better hotels I've stayed at in London and I plan on staying here again.

2.This hotel is tiny and has almost no amenities but the staff make up for it in personalized service. I had a package stored in the freezer that couldn't be located when I checked out and went into the office. The staff located the package and had it delivered to my office before noon that day.

R. O.Upmarket bar and hotel and handy for St Pancras Station. The interior is quite special and the banquette seating outside is genius, it heats up when you sit on it! I paid a bit more than usual for a pint and a glass of wine but I had just stepped off Eurostar so I'd expect that.
For all it's gentrification and renovation King's Cross is still very raw so if sitting outside you might be asked for loose change or a cigarette, but there is always something to see, just make sure you keep hold of your valuables.

Clean and updated public areas, including complimentary access to well stocked kitchenettes on each floor. Well-maintained historic rooms with huge windows to maximize available light. A.It was an unexpectedly pleasant experience staying here. I was upgraded and while the room was still small, it didn't bother me because it was only me staying in my room. There is a kitchen in the hallway that has really delicious cake, candies, and coffee/tea. I've never had that at any hotel and I'm a SPG Platinum.
The location was super convenient-by the tube and shopping. If anyone is taking the Eurostar this is even more convenient. There is also a Michelin restaurant that's part of the hotel-too bad I didn't get a chance to try!

I have never stayed at a hotel that really put the customer at the forefront of their guest experience design as this one does. Beyond impressive.
s.I won't stay anywhere else in London when I travel to the UK, whether it's a business trip or for holiday. The location, right between St. Pancras and Kings Cross, makes it easy to get anywhere on the continent and anywhere in London without an Uber or a Cab. The hotel is wonderful. Staff is incredibly friendly , professional and attentive. Walk to Dishoom and other great restaurants is about 5 minutes away. It's a straight run to and from Heathrow on the Picadilly line (lots of stops but no train change). Can't beat it. Last, the Plum and Spilt Milk restaurant is outstanding. Try the Monkey 47 Gin and Tonic with a slice of plum in lieu of a lime. Fantastic.

A.The Great Northern Hotel couldn't be more conveniently located, right above St Pancras Station. Rooms and clean and have the some character to them, not your standard cookie cutter hotel rooms. Love the room of self serve tea and snacks, really comes in handy.
5.I have stayed here often since the hotel was repened in 2009. Conveniently situated for the Eurostar, trains, underground and busses. Rooms are lovely with a pantry for free drinks and snacks.
On this occasion I paid for my one night stay in advance. Arriving at the hotel I was asked for a credit card security deposit of 50 pounds. For some unknown reason my credit card did not work in the hotels machine but was ok when I withdrew cash shortly after my check in from a ATM machine. The lady receptionist asked me to deposit 200 (two hundred) pounds in cash as security for my one night stay. I had no option but to obey her instructions. So if you come here for a longer stay make sure you are carrying adequate cash just in case your credit card does not work.

We decided not to switch rooms to avoid being perceived as ugly Americans but showering on your knees to avoid flooding the room was unpleasant and slow.

E. E.I look for a couple things when I stay in a hotel; it has to be quiet and it has to be dark. This hotel was very quiet, but my room had so much ambient light. There was a light in the bathroom that wouldn't turn off, a light in the foyer, one on the TV, one on the air controller. Total madness! I had my sleep mask, but with that many lights, it didn't much help.
But, I was pleasantly surprised by the quiet. In such a noisy neighborhood I didn't expect that. Some other things I liked:

-Discount at the restaurant
-Convenient location
-The bath products were among the best I've had at any hotel
-Bedding was nice
-The hall kitchen was adorable and had delightful goodies
-High ceilings
-Good quality WiFi
-There was a freaking towel warmer. I should've started with that.

Even though the hotel is in the Northeast section of the city, being literally on top of a major transportation hub makes it a perfect spot to stay and easily see the city sites. Per the staff, my SPG number and status werent on file. Odd since corporate travel does my bookings - they have it - and this has never happened before. I give it to them, they say they enter it, but, 4 days later, still no sign in the system. Front desk asks concierge to show me to my room. He's too busy texting to bother.
At check out, ask for my bill to be emailed - confirm they have my address. Still waiting for that email.
Good things - facilities are unique. They are over a rather loud ground floor bar which may turn off some.
These are minimal quibbles, but when you spend most of your life on the road, a hotel that can actually do what it says it will matters. I wouldnt return.

I have been coming to King's Cross what seems like forever, have seen the many positive changes and transformation to the area.
I have eaten in a diverse range of cafes and establishments, from your £3 quid fry up to your £20 posh breakie. For me as an artist it's about the experience of a place, how it feeds the creative pallet is priceless.
Wonderful decor, and great service, it may be pricey for some, but you get what you pay for. I have found it relaxing while waiting on a train up North.
Looking at he menu it's got a fab cocktail selection, if you fancy a cheeky one, and a tantalising food menu. Has Wi-Fi and a really smart mens toilet.. Seriously!

L. E.The biggest win for this hotel is the location. It’s smack in the middle of the whole King Cross Station with easy assess to public transport and food. It’s about 30mins walk to Camden, which is a big bonus, and within the same distance to Tottenham Circus where the start of Oxford Street are.
Biggest setback is the size of the room, it’s “cosy” as they call it, is nothing more than a bed at a corner, enough moving room for 2, but the toilet seems to be more generous in relation to the space infront of the bed.
They made it up with a daily restocked pantry with u limited candies, coffees, pastries and fruits to keep you happy.

S. H.We usually stay at this hotel when we have an early morning flight out of Heathrow or Gatwick as there are direct trains to both. It is the perfect location between Cambridge and London. Usually we stay here and then make a night out in London since it is so close to most of the undergrounds and buses.
We usually get the smallest room (the couchette), but it is perfect size for just one night. It overlooks Kings Cross Station, so it is interesting to see the top of the station.
The rooms are luxurious, and fully equipped with everything you need.
The only downsides are the doors to enter open outwards and are automatic, so it can be a bit shocking.

C. S.Wish I could give more than 5 stars! I come to London for work often, and I've previously stayed at the St. Pancras (which was okay - nothing special, not memorable). It was full so I stayed at The Great Northern on my most recent trip. WOW....I can't even put into words the difference. I am SO SO impressed with this hotel, from the staff, to the rooms, to the restaurants and Anthracite Lounge. Everyone here went above and beyond to make my stay memorable (from the moment I arrived and was shown my room, to the day I left and the hotel organized my black cap to the airport). They were very friendly, thoughtful, and honestly, felt like family towards the end! I ended up staying an extra two days because I did not want to leave, and so glad there was availability to stay at GNH! Can't recommend this place enough, and I would encourage you to get to know the diverse staff. They all have clear experience in the industry and are experts at making your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

M.I stay at hotels 40-50 nights per year and most are not worth nothing. This is the best Marriott I've stayed at - and I've stayed at lots. I loved the character and style of the hotel - there was nothing bland about it. Great location - right beside Kings Cross station. Bar was very lively and great atmosphere. Breakfast was delcious and staff super efficient (we were in a rush). They have a 'pantry' at the end of each floor - proper tea and coffee, nice biscuits, fresh fruit, newspapers and option to socialise (briefly) with a colleague if you want to avoid the bar. I expect I'll look to revisit when next over with my wife. Oh I wish more Marriott's could be like this - hey guys ... look, listen and learn from your colleagues!!!

N.Would consider the hotel for 4* based more on my expectations of a 5* should be. Little errors in attention to detail that make me feel this was. For example, TV remote batteries not working, conditioner in the bathroom was already open. Tjeu have, what could be, a unique concept of aThe Pantry for drinks and snacks. However. Milk element of machine was not working and no indication of why. Fridge needed a good clean. Bin was over flowing and not emptied from 5pm 10am the following day. I personally would not consider a tunnocks wafer bar to be a sweet treats... perhaps more selection or scape this idea totally if not excuted well ( and it wasn't). The enterance was hard to find for reception, and if I had paid the expected price for the room received ( was completely upgraded) it certainly falls short on price paid for what would have been received. However. I have based my review on an upgrade that wipes off most negative scoring. Great location. But more 4* than 5* in my 40+ nights a year spent in hotels.
K.Although I’ve stayed around Kings Cross for business trips, I’ve never considered this area for leisure purposes - but now I’ll find it hard to stay anywhere else. What a wonderful hotel, enhanced by the best customer service I’ve ever experienced.
We stayed in a Cubitt room at the end of the fourth floor, with views over St Pancras and Kings Cross (unspoiled by noise owing to faultless soundproofing). The bathroom was luxurious with standalone rolltop bath and hand-held shower.
We sampled room service, the GNH bar and Anthracite, all of which were superb. The pantry at the end of each floor, for hot drinks and sweet treats, was an added bonus.
Mention must be made of hotel staff who were exemplary in every way. They went over and above to ensure our stay was perfect.
The location worked especially well for this visit, as we needed to be in various places directly accessible from Kings Cross.
We will be delighted to return.

J. H.I loved the first man who checked us in. He was so accommodating and made us feel like we were at a five star hotel. The other staff unfortunately weren’t as welcoming. This hotel doesn’t have elevators up to the rooms and the rooms are quite small. The bedroom was clean, but unfortunately the bed was quite uncomfortable to sleep on even though I love firm mattresses. Really cute space and the automatic doors for the lobby are helpful when hauling suitcases. But if you have accessibility issues, this may not be the best hotel for you. The thing we loved about this hotel was the location. 3.5 stars

As much as the prices are slightly higher, it's very centrally located right at King's Cross Station, which helps you get around very extremely easily. It fits 1 very comfortably, and does 2 pretty neatly too. Highly recommend especially for business trips!
C.We stayed for two nights in a Cubitt room and wish we could have stayed longer. We specifically requested a quiet room as we are used to quiet living in a small village and this hotel did not disappoint. The room had soundproof secondary glazing and despite our room overlooking a busy road between Kings Cross station and St Pancras, we slept without disturbance in the comfortable bed. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The chef in Plum and Spilt Milk 1st floor restaurant clearly sources excellent quality ingredients and food from their a la carte menu was delicious and well presented with great staff. Even when the restaurant was busy on the first morning, we did not have to wait for a table as staff are efficient at clearing vacated tables. It was nice that breakfast was a la carte with a good range of food choices as often it is buffet style. A great feature was the pantry at the end of each corridor where in-house guests could help them selves to complimentary teas/coffees and snacks 24 hours, with supplies frequently replenished.The room was compact as is true for most city hotels but it was well appointed and had all desired amenities including a minibar and coffee machine. The air conditioning worked well and kept us nice and warm during the snowy weather conditions in London. The TV had a complimentary library of movies, music channels, pre-recorded books and regular TV and sports channels - something for everyone!! We shall certainly return again to this hotel as it is so conveniently located adjacent to Kings Cross train station, with the London underground access and St Pancras/Eurostar terminal only minutes away. It is easy to get to Heathrow airport directly on the tube from Kings Cross underground - allow one hour. Gatwick airport can be accessed directly by taxi or tube to Victoria and then the Gatwick Express - again allow an hour.
S.Have stayed at GNH many times both pre and post pandemic. I book it for the convenience and usually pretty competitive rates. As a Lifetime Titanium, have always received great upgrades pre-arrival, typically for stays of 4 to 5 nights, which has been a factor in me booking this property. This time, with only a single night stay, no proactive upgrade and they made a big deal about giving me a slight upgrade after asking up arrival. Definitely a different experience than in the past.
I will always think twice now before booking GNH.

Even before I opened the door to my room I could tell it was quality given the sturdiness and quality of every detail down to the numbers on the door. I really enjoyed the location located right next to King's Cross Station. I found it convenient to get to anywhere in London. The rooms were very comfortable and had plenty of space relative to many of the other hotels I've stayed at in London. I also really enjoyed the complimentary mini-kitchens they had on the halls where you could grab a complimentary snack. This is a feature I have not seen at many hotels, and I regularly find myself craving a late snack after hotel kitchens have closed. I took advantage of it twice.
I don't think this hotel had an exercise room (at least I did not see it), but if it did I would have rated 5 stars.

C.This place is unique and elegant with a helpful, accommodating staff. The historic building--the old station masters quarters--preserved the beautifully restored wood staircases, high ceilings, and rounded hallways. The rooms are amazingly appointed with vintage fixtures, but with great wifi, charging stations, and auto-lighting that works with your key card.
The top-floor room I stayed in had dark aubergine walls and an angular sidewall, which seemed cozy--a bit cramped if you have 2 people--but they are quieter than the lower floors.
A.We booked the GNH due to it's close proximity to London Kings Cross & St Pancras stations and also as my wife's friend was staying there too en route to her business trip in Spain.
We were given a very warm welcome and felt really informed about the hotel with the reception staff informing me about the facilities and locations.
The hotel is bang across the road from St Pancras (come out of the eurostar entrance and look across the road for the red ropes) and part of London Kings Cross.
So amazingly convenient for train travel and with tube and bus stops all very close, getting around London from here is a doddle.
Getting the train home is so stress free too being right on the station, no rushing around at all.
We got to our room and were very happy with it's appointment, the size was decent enough with a small table, little 2 person sofa and a king size bed with room to walk around.
The bathroom was very clean with a lovely deep tub which soaked away any walking and weariness from the day :-)
And the corner room gave a lovely view of the city and the St Pancras clock.
Each floor also has a decent little pantry with capsule coffee machines (equipped with milk wands so lattes are easy and available), good quality tea bags, freshly made cake, sweets and Tunnocks chocolate mallows and wafers (which made me feel like a kid again so i was happy :-D)
This is all complimentary too!!!
The in room minibar is very reasonable too with prices only slightly above shop price so if you don't fancy nipping outside for some chocolate, coke etc... then it's actually worth using it.
Checkout was very fast and efficient too.
The Kiosk sandwich bar is excellent too offering delicious hot, roast meat sandwiches. We also got a 20% discount too as GNH customers do.
If that's not your thing, theres a pret right outside the entrance too.
All in all, I would definitely recommend the GNH to anyone wishing to stay in the centre of London and we will 110% be back whenever visiting friends.

V.I was excited to try the Great Northern Hotel and wasn't sure what to expect since this was my first Tribute Portfolio hotel stay. The hotel location is extremely convenient located next to St Pancras and Kings Cross.
There are some really unique aspects of the hotel that made the stay really great. Each floor has its own pantry and everything in the pantry is complimentary. There was a great espresso machine, tea, candies, pies, etc... The other nice benefit is that all in-room movies are complimentary. So on a rainy afternoon I was able to watch a good move in my room without paying an arm and a leg. The wifi is good and reliable.
The bath products are some of my favorites, Malin & Goetz. I love the brand and was very excited to see them here.
I love the Le Meridien, W, Luxury Collection hotel brands and this hotel felt like a blend of the three. Very upscale, unique, modern, warm and tech friendly (USB slots next bed for easy charging.)
Overall, great hotel and one I'd absolutely stay in again! Great addition to Starwood!
A.The access to the hotel is not the easiest and signage could be clearer.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful and offered us an upgrade, but the room we were given appeared to be the same size as the one we booked. The door into the bathroom is quite inadequate - badly fitting wood framed glass panels. This is a design issue rather than a construction or maintenance issue. It would seriously deter me from booking again if all rooms are the same design.
The provision of the refreshments area at the end of the corridor was very good and useful after a long journey. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows and the air conditioning was effective.
There was no discernible noise from either of the two stations so the room was excellently soundproofed.
d.I selected this hotel for location and because it is SPG brand. We booked two Wainscot rooms for family of four and were assigned two Cubitt which I think was an upgrade (maybe my SPG status). Rooms were modern and very comfortable, bathroom had great shower. Nice amenities (e.g. slippers, Nespresso). Rooms felt on the small side and one of our rooms was smaller than the other, so there is some variability within the same room category. Neither of our rooms had a desk that you could work at so if you need to work in your room them maybe this isn't the best hotel for you. Both had small couch/coffee table. Wall mounted TV felt on the small side, given how cheep 42-50 inch screens have become I would have thought that this would be minimum now-a-days. Pantry on each floor is a nice idea, they had larger selection of Nespresso and cake/sweets (candy) that you can take at any time. We did not use restaurant or bar so can't comment on those. Location is simply perfect for a visit to london... many tube lines right at your doorstep. But overall I would highly recommend this hotel for a short stay.

t.I have traveled to London for the past 20 years on business, so I thought to try out GNH. It is very well located and looks very nice. The staff are professional, maybe a bit distant. No upgrade for Platinum members! The reception is rather small but one can manage. Hallways are nice and wide and they have a nice 'pantry' at the end of the hall. Nice touch. Then you enter the room! It is nicely appointed but ridiculously small (for the price). Their double room can not be described as anything but a very small single room, even for London. I know it is an old building, etc, but they should have combined two rooms to made a regular size room. Breakfast was excellent. Overall, the hotel is nice and very well located but only stay if you are not affected by claustrophobia!

R. J.The Great Northern is a great hotel. The location, adjacent to Kings Cross station, makes access to public transport very easy. The styling of the hotel gives a nod to the days of "classic" train travel, but with all the modern amenities you'd expect from a 21st century hotel. One of the most unusual, yet appealing, features is the presence of a pantry on each floor. This is open 24 hours a day, allowing you to help yourself to hot drinks and sweet treats whenever the need arises.
The room itself was comfortable and quiet. As well as the pantry, the room also had a Nespresso machine just in case the trip down the corridor was too much first thing in the morning. The room service menu also surprisingly reasonable - a gin and tonic from room service in a hotel we'd stayed in the night before would have cost £8; at the Great Northern it cost only a much more palatable £3!
Overall, I'd recommend the Great Northern. It's not a cheap stay, but that's reflected in the location and luxury in the hotel itself.

The Plum And Spilt Milk restaurant on the first floor is definitely a recommendation as well. It is one of the best restaurants in the neighbourhood. Together with the great team, this made dining at the restaurant a perfect way to finish a long day.
Also the rooms are very comfortable, with a relaxing interior and all supplies needed (thought into every detail e.g., USB chargers). They always gave me a good night rest. This, together with the lovely smile of the GNH team every morning, made it into a few amazing stays.

V. B.My favorite hotel in London. Amazing location, you can anywhere in London in minutes being this close to major stations. Even if they are small for American standards, rooms are well decorated and furnished. Hotel has good amenities for business travelers such as a micro kitchen in each floor and a business center. Room service menu is top notch and there are many good options around if you aren't feeling lazy or tired. Gym is modern and includes classes at nearby clubs like Barry's at no extra cost.
I can't really complain about this hotel, it's a bit pricey but it delivers beyond expectations, I will definitely be returning to it in the future.
I.If not specifically looking for, you may miss this gem at Kings Cross. You literally walk from your train to their door in minutes. The hotel staff are a delight, the hotel is clean, the rooms spacious and the pantry area at the end of each floor, with tea, coffee, cake and biscuits a lovely surprise.
To see where the hotel is stationed, the fact that the rooms are so quiet is another unexpected but appreciated surprise.

Overall this is one of the Tribute hotels SPG has that I will definitely look forward to staying when I am back in London.
Z.Stayed here for the third time for a 4 day stay recently. This hotel is located in Kings Cross station, and the building & hotel interior is beautiful. The rooms are small, but very comfortable and modern but elegant. Breakfast was fantastic and the pantry is a really nice touch.
I was quite disappointed with the service from the front desk on check-in, who tried to sell me an available upgrade to the Cubitt room, from my booked Couchette room, for a nightly additional rate. As an SPG Platinum member, I commented that I thought that the upgrade was included for Platinum which led to a long delay whilst the staff got hold of the manager. During this delay, the staff kept repeating that they were a boutique hotel with 91 rooms, whilst continuing to offer me the cash upgrade. Upon arrival, the reception manager told me that I should check the terms and conditions of the program, that the upgrades are at the hotel's discretion, and are to the next available, not best available room for Plats. When I tried to respond, the manager told me that he didn't want to have an argument but repeated his line about the discretionary nature of the program. They did eventually upgrade at no charge, but made it clear that it was a goodwill gesture and unrelated to the SPG program.
Overall the discussion at reception, which I felt was unnecessarily condescending, left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Great hard product - I'd suggest working on the soft product to retain loyalty.

They claim to have sky sports but its clear they have not done so for several years now, so they really should have removed it from their literature.
M.Quite a unique hotel. Very beautifully renovated. Yes, the rooms are a little smaller but they are well-appointed, modern, clean and quiet. Great neighbourhood with lots to do nearby when not sightseeing and, of course, there are excellent transportation options. Staff were mostly very helpful. Restaurant is excellent with a great menu, well-prepared options. Service was a bit inconsistent- ranged from excellent to indifferent - same for front desk. But overall, we felt welcome and well-treated.
T.If your travels mean you need to be close to Kings Cross Station, you can’t go wrong here. This hotel is literally steps away. Rooms are small but lovely and extraordinarily quiet. The pantry has nice snacks and tea and coffee plus fresh milk for the tea. I loved my stay and would recommend this hotel without hesitation.
E. M.I just left the GNH after my second stay there, and had a wonderful time. The pantry is such a nice touch, but for me what really makes staying there so great is the restaurant. Both dinner and breakfast are of exceptional quality, and after gorging ourselves on excellent beef wellington and a mind-blowing banoffee baked Alaska there is nothing better than knowing you only have to stumble 2 minutes to your quiet and well designed hotel room.
The staff were also excellent at accommodating my access needs which I really appreciate.
It's worth noting the hotel rooms fonts offer much luggage space so I'd recommend packing light!
P. B.I booked The Great Northern Hotel last minute for a birthday surprise and for the convenient location to travel onwards the following day. I'd also done my homework and knew this was a well presented hotel.
On arrival the staff were very polite, welcoming and attentive. We were also upgraded which made our stay even better.
The room was beautifully furnished in walnut wooden panels that gave it a luxurious and warm feel. The bed was really comfortable and the room very quiet. A good quality TV and refreshments in the pantry also made a difference. A big thank you to the staff for making us feel so welcome for our stay.

E.On the one hand this hotel has great quality common areas, halls, etc. The dining room is also very classy. The staff is super helpful. There are free VOD movies and a nice little coffee and cake area that is free access. However, three big negatives:
1. room size and function. Crazy small. Nice quality, but very small. There is no desk to work on at all in the room. They had a table and a couch, but it was not easy to work on that at all.
2. no upgrades. 1 suite out of 91 rooms, so don't expect any SPG privileges.
3. Entry. I couldn't believe I was in the right place. So maybe the "boutique" hotel slant means you should have a small check-in.... if so, they win. One single desk in a hall. First impression was horrible as the carpet in the entry was so dirty. They should rip it out and not have any carpet there.
Other than that, nice enough hotel. Great location if you are taking the train to/from Paris as St. Pancras is literally across the street. No issue finding taxis - tons queue outside the front door. The bar is a hot spot, if that is your scene. Just don't get a room above that floor.
M.Fantastic hotel a great location. Close to the stations and the recently developed area of Kings Cross and St Pancras. Quality hotel and service. The room was great and the breakfast was 1st class. Not particularly cheap but you certainly get what you pay for here. I would definitely stay there again and again.
R.Remodeled in the last 3 years, this small hotel has all the amenities. Although the rooms are small (as you see throughout London), they are well appointed: electric curtains, USB power ports, high speed internet, great mattress and pillows. I especially liked the pantry on each floor stocked with a Nespresso machine, teas, pastries and chocolates. The restaurant is pricey but good. This hotel is adjacent to Kings Cross station and gives you easy access to all of London.
d.The GNH greatly impressed me during my stay at this Tribute Portfolio Hotel. Despite being a "small room" hotel, there was sufficient amenities and the bed provided comfortable nights.
Staff at the GNH was also very welcoming often giving us advise on whats to explore or where to grab a hearty meal.
Tried the Plum+split Milk restaurant am won over by their delicious dishes and hospitality. Kudos to the team on that.
Lastly, the location of the GNH was excellent!! As I was catching an early train to Paris, no other hotel can offer a better location with the Station just across the road!!!

R. W.Came here for breakfast while away for work. The staff were hit and miss, some were great others not so much. Our breakfast took a long time to arrive (we were there for an hour!) and was just about warm. The restaurant itself is lovely but there are a few things that could be adjusted to make the overall experience better.
P.Very nice hotel located in kings cross. The underground and national rail is steps from the front door. Easy to get anywhere in london. Rooms are well appointed and quiet. The restaurant is very good. The pantry at the end of the hall was a welcome touch. The platinum amenities were a great breakfast and a room upgrade to the Cubitt room. The staff were extremely helpful. I cannot wait to stay here again.
D.This is another wonderful example of the great job Portfolio group is doing rehabilitating properties, turning them into sunning destinations. The rooms are comfortable, quiet, well-lit, and appointed nicely in a contemporary style. Each floor has its own Pantry that provides 24/7 snacks, coffees, and tea. With the back of the Hotel adjoining Kings Cross Station, and having St. Pancras directly across the street it provides easy access to any part of London. The restaurant Plum + Spilt Milk was outstanding, the associated bar was small but a great place to meet friends for a drink before heading out for the evening. The bar staff were exceptionally friendly and whip up some pretty cool drinks. One of the key things that MAKE this hotel is the staff. The front desk staff especially went out of their way to make accommodations. I absolutely plan to return to the Great Northern Hotel on a future visit to London.
M. T.The hotel has an excellent location, the rooms have a nice railway flair, which you can notice not just on the rooms, but also in the smaller details. I really loved the pantry as a space for small informal meetings, but also for Quick chats with other guests. I am generally not a fan of á la carte breakfast, but here at the GNH, breakfast was really a high point of every morning not just because of the well composed dishes and flavours, but also the staff, who were quick and polite with requests and issues. The prices are reasonable. Can definitely recommend for business and leisure as well.
S.I gave a mixed review because of the inconsistency in the service. Its a small hotel so not much interaction with staff except the front desk. Check in was done by two fantastic girls. My room was not ready so they sent me to the bar for a drink on them! So full marks. In the evening, the same desk was manned by two other girls. They were totally indifferent. So fail. Check out only one of the girls who checked me in was there. Was asked about my stay and she kept eye contact as i answered. Gave the feel she actually wanted to know rather than was just going through the motions. So good again.Facility wise the room I got was a upgrade. Which I am grateful for. But the room was very small. So what did the normal room look like? No desk so seems like not for the executive? I thought this was odd. Nice little pantry on the floor where drinks and snacks were available. Super location next to St Pancras. Restaurant was great. All non UK staff. What will happen after Britexit? Great service, great food. Had dinner and breakfast there. A mixed bag of good and bad at this hotel but I would still recommend this hotel to anyone who ask.
N. I.We had a good stay at Great Northern. While the hotel is located in North London, it's extremely accessible by tube. It was very convenient having an M&S close-by. Their takeout counter "kiosk" was a great place to stop for coffee and a quick breakfast. Our hotel room was a typical size for London hotels (quite small) but the decor was tasteful and the room was clean.
j.This place is a class act. It has the most ideal location imaginable. It sits just above the King's Cross Pancras station an international hub for trains and the London tube system. The place is soundproof so you don't hear the trains.
The rooms are small but very cool with a boutique feel throughout. Not only is there a Nespresso machine in your room but a fancier one on each floor where you can make as many cappuccinos or espressos you want. They also supply fruits, baked goods and sweets all at no charge in these pantries.
The housekeeping and staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
The rooms are decked out with all the latest electronics including power cord access for you Apple devices.
I will be returning here again and again. I enjoyed it immensely.

Many annoying issues with the accommodation. TV remote didn't work, aircon didn't work, bathplug was broken. The room we were allocated was not what we had booked.
Check in very slow and rooms didn't seem available until after 4. We were told to wait in the bar but offered a 15% voucher for hotel outlets after we had paid for drinks. Bar manager appeared to be drinking shots of vodka from a tea cup.
Don't expect a kettle or tea bags in the room. Coffee only.
G.This is a very stylish historic boutique hotel, located right at the King’s Cross station. It’s five stars but there aren’t that many amenities due to lack of space. (For instance no pool or gym, although the hotel offers free access to other gyms and classes in the city). Rooms are tiny but very tastefully furnished. They have nespresso machines and slippers, two of my favorite things. There is also a “pantry” in each floor; I’m putting it in quotes because it only has another nespresso machine and some wrapped chocolates (though other travelers reported cakes and such but we didn’t see any cakes during our stay). The location of the hotel is key, you can travel from King’s Cross or St Pancrass very quickly to your destination.
The only problem I had is that my room was in an “annex” which is connected to the hotel via some stairs behind the bar. To go there you must cross the bar and walk up the stairs. This creates funny situations because most hotel staff doesn’t anticipate you doing that. For example I came back late one day, walked through the bar to the curtain in the back, and someone shouted to me “excuse me, may I help you” (thinking I am invading the bar’s backstage or something) to which I replied “I am just going to my room”. Perhaps the main building is nicer and doesn’t suffer from this but I had to endure the humility of the bar walk every time.
S.We enjoyed our stay but the double room could be a bit bigger - not much space for two people. The bathroom doors do not provide much privacy. The staff are nice and the hotel is ideal for connections to Kings Cross.
R.My Girlfriend and I stayed at the Great Northern Hotel (GNH) over New Years as part of a trip to London and Iceland. In all we stayed 5 nights at the GNH and it was a great spot of us to explore the city. While the hotel wasn't centrally located to many of the tourist spots, the hotel is right above the King Cross tube station and has a taxi stand right out front of the hotel. Between Taxi's and the tube we were able to easily get to everywhere on our sightseeing list.
The hotel itself was really quite charming. The rooms were a touch small but that's to be expected in London. The furnishings were nicely appointed and the bed was extremely comfortable as we tried to suffer through some jet lag. The highlight of our stay though was the breakfast offed at the hotel. Having the full breakfast included as a perk of my SPG status was truly a wonderful treat.
We will absolutely be back the next time were planning a trip to London and it's clear to see why this is Tribute Portfolio's flagship location!

There is absolutely no space even to put my carry on luggage. If you travel with any suitcase you won't be able to move around the room at all. There's no desk for working in the room and there's no business centre or lounge area other than the pub to sit and work from.

a.This hotel is placed is beside Kings cross which has excellent underground/train connections. The Kings cross area has been upgraded and redeveloped with lots of hip hotels cafes and restaurants including the area surrounding St Martins college.
I booked the basic room for my first 2 nites and was quite shocked at the small size of the rooms which left me a bit claustrophobic. Despite being a spg platinum member, receptionist did not even offer me an upgrade to a better room. I subsequently found out that I had pre-booked the cubit room on my 3rd nite and the space in this room was much better.
There is a pantry at the end of each floor with 24 hours snacks and nespresso coffee.
Breakfast at the plum and spilt milk was top notch. The variety of food was good and the staff there were very attentive and efficient.
areas for improvement:
1) spg platinum members should be offered upgrades to better rooms (receptionist should be trained)
2) the type of cake could be varied at the pantry. the same cake was served during the whole duration of my stay (3 nites).
1.I had been looking forward to staying at this new SPG property, but read with a little concern the prior reviews about lack of Platinum recognition. As it turned out this concern was not founded. I think this hotel is a gem. The hotel and the staff exude English classiness. While the room is a little small, it is well designed, and accompanied well by the shared pantry. Locations is great if travelling via either Kings Cross of St Pancras, and does not require a tube change for Heathrow. I highly recommend the restaurant, the Plum and Spilt Milk for dinner and the breakfast is not to be missed. I shall return.
J.Location is unbeatable, between St, Pancrass Station and King’s Cross station. Both the room and the bed were very comfortable. There is a lack of common space. Some of the hotel facilities are more oriented for outsiders than for guests, even if nice discounts are applied.
T.Great location right next to the EuroStar, Underground and many bus lines. Rooms on the top floor are smallish but great for a business or leisure traveler not spending a lot of time in the room. I loved my room (512) as it was very cool, dark and comfortable. The decor is a mix between an elegant train car and something out of Harry Potter. Loved my seven night stay and would definitely return.
C.This is the 2nd time I have stayed at the Northern. If you are staying in London for a while and need a base for work - then this is the place to stay. With Kings Cross and Pancras stations on your doorstep the location couldn't be better.
In addition the food at the bar and restaurant - for both Breakfast and dinner, are as good as any I have had at any SPG Hotel.
The rooms are small - and although I had a suite (using my suite upgrades this time) it was too dark for my liking and I did prefer the big sash windows and light I had in my smaller room at my previous stay. Saying that I love that all rooms have windows that open!
On of the benefits of the hotel is of course the Pantry on each floor, where you can get your paper; coffee and snacks at anytime - so you have the feeling of being in a house rather than a hotel.
The only probably downside would be the small reception area.
After staying a a number of other London hotels - my view is that if you are there for work - or even a conference, then don't stay at the traditional large Hotels - stay here - location is fantastic and it has competitive rates, which coupled with the food and ambience of the hotel make it hard to beat.
S. S.Small rooms, but comfy and clean and, considering the proximity to Euston Road, very quiet. Shutters were also excellent at shutting out light. Took 5 mins to find the entrance door. Looked more like a fire escape than the door to a hotel.
K.It's a new Starwood property. That's why I decided to give it a try. Very disappointed. I had the smallest room I ever had at any SPG resorts for the past 9 years. The rooms face a very busy street, and you can forget about good night sleep. Furthermore, if your room is close to elevator, you will listen the hall door opens and closes all night long.
No upgrade for SPG Platinum guests, but it's becoming a common practice lately.
The front desk service is a mix. There was a young lady from Eastern Europe who was very arrogant and absolutely not polite. On the other hand, the English lady at reception was very helpful.
I tried the bar which was quite good and the restaurant for breakfast. The breakfast is OK, the only issue that it's a la carte and you have to wait about 10 minutes for the course of your choice.
All in all, not recommended and overpriced. After 2 days I moved to a real 5 star property in Mayfair for the same price.
C.I have stayed at this hotel twice, and it is now my go to hotel when traveling in and out of London. The Staff was wonderful both times and I think the accommodations and the hotel feel is excellent. Even though the rooms are smaller, they are warm and inviting making you feel extremely comfortable. I love the tea and snacks at the end of each hallway, and the bar is great to enjoy a Martini. I will be back very soon!
F.How would you like to have a room next to one (or should I say two!) of the county's busiest stations (and also on one of the capital's busiest roads), and go to sleep at any time at the sound of absolute... silence?
So it turns out that having a good night’s sleep in a sound-proofed as well as air-conditioned room is not impossible to achieve after all (yet many other big-city hotels fail miserably, some in both counts). Having been recently renovated, it seems to me that the GNH has spent the money wisely. The entirety of the building is in impeccable condition (yet manages to maintain its old Grade-listed charm).
Check-in is smooth as anything, with SPG status recognised beautifully. Staff will show you to your room and offer to help with the luggage. We were upgraded to a leather-covered Cubitt room which, along with its extremely comfortable bed, spacious bathroom and mini-hallway, had another unexpected feature: it was right next to the pantry. Yes, there is a fully-stocked pantry in each floor and we treated it as our own kitchen. We loved it. Teas, coffees, cakes, jelly bellies, mince pies (!) all regularly restocked and yours to enjoy while looking out at the masses coming and going through St Pancras.
Back in the room, you can expect a small leather sofa and adjoining table, good WiFi, free movies through a decent TV, a compact Nespresso machine (there’s a bigger one in the pantry), mini-bar and safe. Oh and massive mirrors!
The main restaurant is the wonderfully decorated (but not very big) Plum & Spilt Milk, where an a la carte breakfast is served. We didn’t try lunch, but dinner was excellent, with service to match. The bar(s) in the hotel are very popular with guests, local workers and travellers alike. Fun fact: the power outlets are geared towards both UK and Continental travellers alike, with both plug points available right next to each other. Rooms also have USB power ports.
It almost goes without saying that the location of the GNH is probably the best you can ask for when it comes down to travelling both around London, and outside it. You also can benefit from the fact that loads of shops are in and around St Pancras station in addition to being a stone’s throw away from places like the British Library. Kings Cross has cleaned up spectacularly over the past decade - it’s now a highly desirable area. And if you're done with London, Paris is just two hours away.
I’m sure I’m forgetting a few things, but this boutique hotel ticked all the boxes for me. I can’t recommend it enough. I wish all the staff a merry Christmas and would like to thank them for their hospitality.

P.The GNH is in a great location conveniently nestled between the Kings Cross and St. Pancras train stations. Being new, the hotel and rooms are in excellent physical condition and given the location were surprisingly quiet. Excellent, friendly, and attentive staff at the front desk and in the restaurant made for an enjoyable weekend stay. An upgrade to a Cubitt room due to my SPG Platinum status was especially appreciated.
While clean and comfortable, the rooms including the larger Cubitt rooms, are small; even for European standards. What was especially lacking was a proper desk in the room. A curved sofa-chair and a small table do not replace a proper desk. If you plan on doing any work while a guest at the hotel, you'll find the lack of a desk and chair especially irksome. When I commented to the kind gentleman at the front desk about the lack of a desk in the room he advised that none of the rooms had desks, but perhaps one could be found for me at my next visit. That response, while heartfelt, was unacceptable. If the hotel is trying to appeal to business travelers like myself, then having a proper work desk and chair in the room is essential.
Would I stay here again on a holiday visit? Certainly, in a heartbeat. Its a great hotel in a great location. But would I stay here again on a business trip? Probably not. Ditch the sofa-chair and cute little table. Install a work desk and chair and I'll be a happy camper.

T. M.Everything great. Only one thing wrong . We asked the timing of breakfast with reception and was told it started at 7am. This was not true. It was 8am and meant we could not partake. If we had known this we would not have pre purchased breakfast. Attempted to have cost reimbursed, hotel refused. A pity as all was good except we had to pay for something we did not have.
E.The hotel combines great levels of style and comfort, excellent service and a very connected London location. The restaurant and bar are modern inviting spaces with a nod to history and my room (couchette) was compact but comfortable, with quality finishes, perfect for a solo traveller.
