The hotel has hit the mark both with its facade and it’s interior. A great mix of classic London, luxury and comfort. With its beautiful Christmas tree greeting you when you arrive, The Ampersand Hotel was definitely a 5* choice for my festive weekend stay. The staff are welcoming and friendly and do everything to make your stay as best as it can be. The rooms are a brilliant size with lovely decor. Modern but grand. The bed was so comfortable and brilliant after a long day out. The complementary in room facilities are just right. Bathroom was a great size too and loved the waterfall shower. The location of the hotel also brilliant, not too busy, away from the bustle and bustle but still well connected! My expectations were well and truly exceeded.

Visited the Ampersand Hotel with my wife to have the Science themed Afternoon tea. The room was lovely, the staff were very friendly and attentive, they ensured we were able to sample various teas, and they did a great job with the Science based theme. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a fun, unusual afternoon tea experience.

Would go again. Nice atmosphere and enjoyed the bar. Walls are very thin between hotel rooms and so we were woken up several times by screaming crying kids. Maybe more thought should be given to where they place people depending on the purpose of the trip. The staff were really lovely though. The room we stayed in (14) was very nice. Extremely comfortable bed and the bathroom was well designed with ample space. Shower was perfect.

Looks amazing from the outside and the inside! Very clean hotel and very polite staff. The location was amazing.
Ps you have to try the afternoon tea and cocktails! The waiting staff are brilliant and food is interactive and tasty!

We visited the Ampersand Hotel to have Science Afternoon tea which was absolutely fantastic. All of the little 'science-y' tricks were really fun and creative and made the experience enjoyable, especially the cocktails (we had the cocktail afternoon tea). Staff were informative and friendly.

Great service. Lovely rooms. Wonderful, eccentric afternoon tea. Not cheap but it's a treat. We loved the Science After rnoon Tea and the staff made us feel special as it was my wife's birthday

This was lovely, most of the staff were very friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble. Our suite was beautiful. The children had good chocolate left on the bed for them. The 5th star withheld purely down to our greeting at the front desk, when we arrived the gentleman was busy with another guest but he didn't even acknowledge us in any way at all, just felt a bit sub par for a 5 star hotel. Other than that everything was great.

I have stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and I believe it deserves 5 starts due to many reasons . Fist , it’s location is perfect, cleanliness is exceptional . I was comfortable during my stay. Staff is cooperative especially Neil . I really recommend it

I hired the event space for a birthday celebration and everything went amazingly. All the staff
I encountered were brilliant and helpful, the space was perfect and accommodating in every way I needed it to be, the food was delicious. There is not much more that I can say. I special thanks to Oliver, the best events manager ever! Will definitely be coming back. 10/10

Aimed more for kids but overall nice afternoon tea not sure on the prices as we was right by the reception and it was very loud as they was hoovering, we would of liked a little more privacy or a wall as we was constantly hearing the receptionist and many people looking at us. Also the table was too small to fit the afternoon tea stand and the teas and drinks on luckily there was a free table next to us to put it all on. Additionally the dried ice was too much it started spitting on my face which wasn’t very nice when trying to enjoy my meal. Lemonade instructions wasn’t very useful the lady who served us seemed to be rushing to tell us all the things to do but end up being a terrible lemonade :(

The best afternoon tea I've ever had. The food was incredible both in taste and aesthetic, the staff were all absolutely lovely and the cocktails were phenomenal (I really want to have the lychee one on tap!) Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back no doubt!

Absolutely amazing. We contacted first thing in the morning in order to leave a really bad place we stayed overnight and they salvaged our trip.
Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spotless and comfortable, the restaurant was amazing and over all just a 10/10 experience.

I can't say enough great things about this hotel during my 10 day stay. Firstly, during a time of Covid, this hotel is extremely clean. If the devil is in the details, the cleaning staff even cleaned the dish soap tray everytime they came the clean. In fact, there was a person from housekeeping who stopped by to make sure that the room was set to our standards of cleanliness. Secondly, the bed is comfortable and large and will guarantee a good night's sleep. Thirdly, the room internet (and general hotel internet) is fast and there are no issues with connectively for any business meetings. Finally, each and every single hotel staff member is so nice and friendly. As we were heading back to our hotel room, even the gentleman who needed to change our AC filter was so genuinely friendly that we felt right at home. Truely a home away from home. I recommend staying at this hotel for sure!

Everything couldn't have been better. From replying to each of my email sent over the last few months in a way to prepare well this trip as never been to London on my own and was a long time ago I was terrified of this trip and more with all this Covid-19.
The location was perfect for my need.
This trip was a relief as soon as I arrived.
Everyone was so nice and mak so welcoming that put the stress of this long trip goin away.
The room was lovely and had all you needed.
The dinner and breakfast was perfect.
I couldn't thanks the staffs enough and I will definitely stay there again if I ever need to go back i London.
Thank you so much once again for everything.
All the very best

Lovely hotel. Afternoon tea was the best I've ever had. Staff are so wonderful, can't do enough for you.

Stayed here for a short stay as a small family. From check-in to check-out, the service was impeccable. The staff did everything to ensure your stay was memorable. Our two year old loved having her own little bathrobe, slippers and toiletries... even a little rubber ducky! It's an ideal location, so near the natural history and V&A museums, great restaurants and handy transport links. Would definitely stay here again next time we are in London.

Went for the afternoon tea. Drinks and food were delicious and the service from Abu and the rest of the staff impeccable.

We visited The Drawing Room for a space-themed afternoon tea. The service was wonderful and the afternoon tea experience was novel, exciting and delicious! I would absolutely recommend it.
N. R.
We decided a Space themed Afternoon Tea for our Wedding Anniversary was right up our street and the Drawing Room did not disappoint. The cakes, tea and Champagne were excellent, the Space theme running through the cakes and indeed the crockery was very imaginative. The little extras, the 'make your own lemonade', were fun and well thought out, overall the quality of the food and cakes were first class. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars was the attention to details. It was our Anniversary and this was communicated on the booking, but nothing special with the tea. One of the space rocket moon cakes was missing a space rocket, we were given a little box with crushed biscuit to 'excavate' a dinosaur but no brush to do it with, we were not asked if we wanted more of anything, I had to ask, and when I did ask for more tea, the used leaves were simply topped up with hot water, not a fresh pot. It's small attention to detail that makes or breaks afternoon tea establishments, it's a huge business and I want just that little bit more for my 120£ especially when it includes 12.5% service charge.

I'm reviewing the tasty vegan scones I had in the drawing room, which is elegant and relaxing. The staff, are very helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my scones, jam & pot of tea. Top quality, and reasonably priced. My first visit, to be followed by many more.

Great home from home in London. Excellent interior design, very comfortable rooms, attentive (but not stiff or starchy) staff and service.
B. L.
A quality hotel, great value for money with great staff and customer service. Ideal location for family with young kids as it close to many attractions, transport links and eating places. Room was quite spacious, clean with super comfy bed and good sized bath. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can see ourselves back again in next school holidays.

Great science themed afternoon tea for children. Clean and modern hotel. Staff were very attentive.

The Ampersand has been so lovely. Everything has been easy, comfortable—a pleasure to stay here three nights. The staff is so warm and welcoming without being overbearing. The past few weeks traveling in London and Bath, I’ve noticed that a consistent number of hotels and restaurants are unwelcoming of kids. It’s been a bit frustrating. But at The Ampersand, quite different! They had my son’s bed set up at check-in; there was a little robe and set of slippers for him in the bathroom; and they sent up a little hot chocolate set for him after we checked in. We booked through Tablet Hotels and there are some advantages through that platform but in general, everyone has been warm to our family and it really makes all the difference. Thank you Ampersand! Sorry to be checking out today!
M. A.
Brilliant hotel, we stayed with the kids to visit the Natural history museum. couldn't fault the service.
M. M.
This hotel is absolutely beautiful and the staff really do go out of there way to make it a memorable one!
We stayed for one night, from the moment we checked in the reception staff where very welcoming to the moment we left! Thank you!
J. M.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Delish afternoon tea.. yummy and also interactive and interesting for toddlers

Perfect hotel for a weekend in London. Stayed at the Ampersand for three nights and really enjoyed it. Lovely, quiet room with nice amenities (robe, slippers, heated floors, luxury toiletries) and a comfortable bed. Pet friendly (they put dog beds, bowls, and treats in the room too!) and in a great location.
D. P.
Great location, wonderful staff, lovely breakfast - the most fantastic scrambled eggs!
J. R.
Nice Hotel interior and great location. Lovely tea, green and english breakfast

Came here for the science afternoon tea and it was amazing. The hotel itself looks really good and the service was excellent. One to think about when coming to stay in London.

Great Sci-Fi afternoon tea service from the Ampersand Hotel. Kids enjoyed the most. Spent quality time with whole family before going to the Science Museum. Service and food were outstanding.
S. B.
Amazing Science afternoon tea! I had the vegan option and my friend had the regular with champagne. Vegan option was super tasty and full of sharp raspberry delights :) where as the regular option had lots of passion fruit and mango delights! Great place for quirky but decadent afternoon tea. Staff were also very efficient and welcoming- would recommend ✨✨

Afternoon tea was great and the service was second to none. Definetly recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed a long overdue return trip to the Amperstand. We arrived late evening and were greeted by the delightful Mufasa and newly appointed Imran - both a true credit to the hospitality industry.
M. S.
Lovely afternoon tea, could have done with a little more savory items, but delicious nonetheless. They were also great to accommodate us last minute as not all of us were on the booking.
J. M.
Small...err...cozy rooms but amazingly clean and comfy. Heated bathroom floors 😍😍😍
S. D.
Science afternoon tea was a great experience, service was great too. Not the best afternoon tea in terms of food but very inventive cakes and pastries, the kids loved it too.
M. N.
Staff friendly, bed comfy, cozy hotel and next to London underground had a great experience 👍
J. K. (.
My daughter had a fab time doing the sci-fi afternoon tea. They provide a take-away box in case you cannot finish all.
M. d.
We only came for a meal. If you're willing to pay a bit more for excellent food and venue, then The Ampersand is worth it.The staff are enthusiastic and likable.
Z. F.
The afternoon tea itself was very creative,it’s of clever ideas and delicious treats. However the service left a little to be desired. Staff huddled around the coffee bar and were not the most attentive. The drawing room itself is very tight and navigating to your table is difficult. If you were on crutches or in a wheelchair this would be impossible. There is no cloakroom or space to put bags either. Overall the creativity and taste of the food earns this afternoon tea a 4/5 but the staff could do with some more training
C.
Top quality afternoon tea here its a must see!

Pros: Staff is great. The room and bathroom has convenient goodies especially for women. Has robes which is nice. The bed is great, the pillows and sheets are very well made.
They gave a generous checkout extension as I had lots to pack and plan which was so nice
Cons: At the restaurant the chef found it hard to make a dish for my allergy and specific dietary requirements. But eventually did something, I just prefer a little more ability to make to order anything at fine restaurants but I understand.
I got a room “upgrade” but for the money it was simply just as basic “in size and layout” as any other lower end hotel in London.
L. C.
We had the science afternoon tea at The Ampersand Hotel for our 6th wedding anniversary. We were first given a very small table right next to the coffee bar which felt a bit chaotic and awkward, so we asked to move to a quieter spot, which they obliged no problem. We did have to wait a little while before we were served, but once our order was taken, we were very well looked after and it was a lovely experience, with lots of unusual delicious treats, with seconds of the sandwiches offered. I would recommend for anyone who would like to try an unusual afternoon tea experience.
A. M.
Most excellent boutique hotel. Staff were highly attentive and pleasant when attending to requests, ranging from needs for power adapters to switching- out feather pillows (due to down allergy). Beautiful facility, which artfully and efficiently makes use of small to reasonably sized spaces. Inviting bar area in lower level, with artisanal and hand-crafted cocktails. Friendly for both executives and families.

Best vegan afternoon tea we've had so far. The food and the service were impeccable. The vegan food was incredibly well prepared and many could not taste the difference, especially in the cakes. The location was also perfect as had 'The Library' specifically for our group. It was a great setting as the afternoon tea was also science themed. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend to others.

We LOVED our stay at The Ampersand!! It’s a lovely, boutique hotel, with a lovely, helpful staff and fabulous bar. We stayed one night on the front end of a trip to Italy and one night on the back end of that same trip about a week apart. The staff was absolutely adorable, helpful and interested in our travels. They helped us book transportation to and from the airport, and made sure we got there in plenty of time. The hotel has many charming touches, and the decor is whimsical and fun. The rooms are roomy and spotless with all the comfortable amenities you would expect from a top-notch hotel. We can’t wait to go back to London and stay there again!! Everything was just P.E.R.F.E.C.T.

We chose the hotel based on the immediate area it is in. We normally stay on the main road, but this was very close to the tube stop and had a queue of taxis right outside the hotel constantly as a result. The neighborhood was fantastic, but the hotel left a little to be desired. It's definitely cuter in photographs, and they do a great job marketing the property - but once inside I realized it was better in pictures. Not bad, mind you but I wish I knew that the pictures were better than reality. Our room was quiet as requested, and the free minibar was a pleasant surprise but it was a dark, dark small room. I also wish the bathroom had a bathtub, but it had nice heated floors and the fixtures were the best part of the room. The interior of the room was dark, which added to the already bleak London sky. (Though I like cave-like interiors, I think lighter colors in a dark small room would be better.) I felt the staff were a bit hover-y at times, or just absent altogether. Not really in-between. I actually felt uncomfortable walking through the lobby or asking the staff for anything, which I don't normally feel at all wherever I go. Now that I think about it, it was the same kind of feeling I had when I worked at a corporation whose staff feared big corporate layoffs at any minute. ln any case, I did like the location so I may give the hotel another go. Maybe I will try a room in another part of the hotel and the staff might be a little more genuine the next time I'm there...

We had the science afternoon tea at the Ampersand Hotel and it was amazing. Not only was it fun and innovative, but the food was beautifully made and tasted wonderful. The service was great. The dining area, as well as the rest of the hotel, is beautifully decorated with interesting and unusual styling and artwork. I would recommend this afternoon tea to everyone.

I didn’t stay at the Ampersand Hotel as a guest, but I did visit to try their afternoon tea. It is science themed, and they have a kids, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free option as well as champagne or cocktail add ons. I chose the standard Science Afternoon Teapot Tails which comes with a cocktail for each course. Each element was prepared with such creativity and care! The staff was also amazingly friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend!

This is a wonderful part of The Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. The service is beyond good. If there is *anything* you need, they will do their level best to make it happen. Perfect location near the Tube. Be sure to make afternoon tea reservations well in advance. It's that good.

Amazing hotel, great service, would definitely recommend!

Very nice atmosphere 👌
Lovely service and best quality food

Visited for science themed afternoon tea. We had a big group so got a private room to ourselves. Food was tasty and there was lots of it. And the cakes look amazing! Dry ice was a nice touch to and the staff were really great, both attentive and good at knowing when to leave us to it.
N. K.
We had the science afternoon tea in the drawing rooms and were really impressed. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The room itself was lovely and the staff were very willing to help. The science theme to the afternoon tea was a clever little twist on a classic and I would recommend for anyone who finds science even vaguely exciting!
L. A.
I went here for afternoon tea it’s a bit small but sometimes that’s better especially with the waitress and waitresses. The service and manager was fantastic in customer service and everything. I came here for my birthday and truly it was a memory I won’t forget. To Christopher and the Manager thank you very much truly I had such a lovely time. I will definitely come back here again because Christopher our waiter treated us very nicely and kindly. He gave us good customer service and it was brilliant. Thank you again for your service and hospitality.

Lovely experience on all levels! Staff were more than polite and helpful. The Science afternoon tea was agreed by our party to be the best we have had in London so far, the theme did not detract from the quality, all enjoyed in a beautifully decorated hotel!
A. B.
Really beautiful hotel! Absolutely stunning interiors and really helpful and friendly staff. The science themed afternoon tea is the best in London. It suits all ages, is delicious and looks incredible. Make sure to ask to take any cakes you can't eat home!
E. H.
It was recommended by the receptionist of the hotel we stayed. We didn't stay at the Ampersand hotel. Anyway, we had their "Science afternoon tea" and it was amazing and fun. The set was decorated by "scientific equipments" and the food was delicious. The waiters and waitress were super friendly and thoroughly explained how it works and the ingredients. If you want to have high tea in London, the Ampersand hotel is definitely recommended.
E. B.
Went for the science tea and it was absolutely fantastic. The decor is lovely but relaxed and the service was also great. My partner and I split a regular and a veggie tea and they were both great although I think the regular one was a little tastier. I couldn't finish what was on the tray but we could have had more as part of the tea.
R. Y.
Exceptional front desk staff. Luxurious and clean. I had a nice and comfortable experience. Loved the bathroom, very modern and blissful to relax in. The receptionist was lovely and helped send me the massage therapist from the mind calm massage practice next door as i had terrible migraines after my long trip. The therapist from there gives 20% off massage to their guests, sweet!! Will definitely return. Great staff, great facilities.
M. D.
Small but comfortable room. Clean and smart. They give you a cell phone to use in city. They cleaned our room unexpectedly, and they folded my silk pajamas neatly. Didn't care for the cafe. Though breakfast was good. Overall, loved it. Great location next to buses, rail, shopping, and restaurants.
K. W.
Hosted a baby shower in the Games Room and the service was absolutely fabulous! The team was very hospitable and accommodating. They were patient and kind from the planning until the event ended. I would definitely go back for afternoon tea; it was a pleasure.
A. C.
We had the science afternoon tea at the Ampersand Hotel, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sandwiches and savoury bites were delicious, and seconds were given out. It was nice that the savoury plate was not just finger sandwiches, which is the norm. Scones were good, but the jam was too runny and didn't have a lot of flavour. Cakes were, however, DELICIOUS, beautiful and well presented. We enjoyed the gimmicks such as dry ice and 'archaeological dig' for dinosaurs, as well as mixing our own fruity drink in a beaker. Everything was of good quality, and we had a lovely time.
O. M.
Lovely hotel and great staff, very professional. Stayed with my fiancee for a romantic weekend and chose a Deluxe Suite as there is a huge bath in the room! Initially, I was offered the opportunity to see the individual room before booking, that was very useful. Throughout our stay we were spoiled and looked after. We had an issue with a faulty electrical device in the room and the hotel manager (Tracey) dealt with this swiftly and satisfactorily. I'm quite fussy, and don't really have a bad word to say.
The pic I've included of the room is on our way out, the room was much neater when we arrived but it still looks lovely there.

My family and I are visiting London and wanted to have the true afternoon tea experience. The Ampersand Hotel exceeded every expectation we had. The tea room itself is picturesque and has a comfortable atmosphere. The service was outstanding, Raphaele was very helpful and a true delight. The presentation of the food and tea was absolutely beautiful and appealed to my inner science nerd. I would highly recommend The Ampersand Hotel!
J. C.
Nice clean hotel, extremely convenient with both bus and tube station and very good food options just outside. Lovely area and walking distance to museums and Hyde Park. Friendly service staff. The only negative which is beyond the hotels ability to help is that the floors are rather "creaky". I feel sorry for the guest under us which my jetlagged 4 year old walking around 5am in the morning. But otherwise an excellent, good value hotel.
j.
Wonderful charming hotel in a great location next to South Kensington tube station. Friends who frequently stay at this hotel told me about it. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful at all times. I had the deluxe room which was located on the 5th floor with city views. Room was super clean and very spacious. Bathroom was a little cramped but everything you needed. The room and stay was very comfortable. Would return.
J. L.
Very pretty lobby. Bed was so soft yet firm how is that possible. Rubber ducky at tub was a very cute touch, made me laugh. Not very personable service overall but suited me fine as I wanted to be left alone. Kettle was clean, plenty of cups, had all amenities I needed (cotton wool, cotton buds, makeup remover, loofah, all hygienically packed in sealed packs). Chic furnishings, a bit cramped in the most basic room even for a petite Asian lady, can't imagine what it'll be like for someone bigger sized. Next to a school I presume, as it was noisy one afternoon from children at the nearby playground.
A. O.
Had a lovely afternoon tea with my 7 year old niece and gf.
My niece had the kids sci fi tea and she loved it.. although now shes bouncing off the walls!
We had tea pot tails and it was great although the second cocktail was a killer.
Really great atmosphere and kid friendly and brilliant service.
L. C.
Beautiful hotel, we had a fabulous stay.
C. J.
Unique vegan science afternoon tea was a lovely birthday treat, though on the pricey side. Customer service was excellent and the tea completely delicious and filling (they brought us a second round of complimentary sandwiches).
H. H.
Nice clean hotel friendly staff #Anna and Ian were very helpful :)
Close to everywhere, highly recommended
A. W.
Got upgraded without asking to a deluxe room. Room was not massive but big enough. It was well appointed with excellent fittings and comfortable bed. Definitely a cut above a normal "business hotel". The location couldn't be better, as you literally fall out of the hotel and into the tube station or one of several cafes and bars. Would definitely stay again.
A.
Visited for a lovely science themed afternoon tea recently.
The food was lovely and filling, and the atmosphere was pleasant.
The staff were friendly and attentive, and accommodating to our dietary requirements.
Thank you for a lovely afternoon

Fantastic, funky boutique hotel in a great location. Short walk from South Ken station and beautiful exterior. Intimate hotel, meeting rooms are quite small but you can link them together to make a more flexible space. Very well decorated, lovely bedrooms, clean, great service. Would highly recommend!

Kids afternoon tea.
Kids loved the experience, but were a bit picky eating the rich food.
Staff great.

My wife and I stayed at The Ampersand for our first trip to London and it could not have been a better choice. The room was great and much larger than we had anticipated, given reviews we had read. The service was great, as well. The hotel provides free daily water and soft drinks and even a local smart phone for use during your stay. But perhaps the best part was the location. Step from a major tube station and South Kensington is just a fantastic area.
T. R.
Outstanding personalized service, attention to detail and luxury experience in the heart of Knightsbridge. From the moment we booked we were constantly engaged and assisted by staff, asking about our personal preferences, reason for travel and any additional requirements we would like during our few days at the Ampersand Hotel. This remained consistent throughout our stay. Overall the hotel is fresh and luxurious. Public areas are bright and accessible with access to the rooms via stairs or elevator. The corridor to our room was fantastic, with art and decor reflective of the nearby museum and arts district. A great touch. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with all the essentials and some exceptional enhancements. The in-room tea/coffee making facilities, complimented by the free minibar were great for mornings and evenings. The room’s temperature control was easy and simple to use but we could also open a window to get fresh air if we chose to do so. The room came with a complimentary mobile phone for calls and internet access for the duration of our stay, which was super helpful for work and leisure as we bounced around London. The desk even had well thought out connections for mobile devices. The WI-FI bubble unique to each room was fantastic and ensured our devices and privacy were maintained without exposing us to a public network of any sorts. Our bathroom, complete with subway tiles was luxe and spacious. The in floor heating, robes, large shower and quality toiletries were spectacular. We had a fantastic night’s sleep. The bed was super comfortable and pillows/covers ideal for a quality sleep in a very quiet room. Look for the signature rubber duck and the branded draw liners. We could not be more complimentary of the staff who were very engaging, helpful and most of all personally accommodating. We will be back.

Attended a tea party at this hotel and inbelueve there were 40 of ys and we had a science kesson experience. Desserts were made to look like planets (chocolate mousse), moon (coconut cake), spaceship shaped matcha chocolate, dry Ice used to make smoke.
Savouries included but varied drpebding if you were ceggie, vegan, gluten free, meat eater: cucumber roulade, egg rolls, beef broche, salmin with fish eggs on crackers, cheese quiche etc £45 each so price wise quite steep but we were shown by staff how to make our own concoction to make lemonade which was entertaining. Great treat and lovely venue. Staff were friendly too!
I. M.
Great and tastefully cool hotel in an excellent location. Staff were friendly and helpful with none of the often encountered London stand-offishness. We had one minor issue which the assistant GM, Niels Frostrup, handled excellently. Would thoroughly recommend and will return!
S. G.
We had a lovely stay here! Our room was not huge but very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely and we felt very welcome. Beautiful interior decor! Highly recommend.
H. R.
Lovely boutique hotel in a vibrant area. Professional friendly service and positive all around vibe. Afternoon tea by the windows or just a cup of tea/coffee is delightful. Bathrooms are below and though clean do need some attention.
S. D.
Beautiful hotel. The rooms are excellent and luxurious. The food is delicious and the drinks selection matches the hotels high quality standards. Staff are helpful and pleasant. Wish I had more excuses to use the hotel which is in the city I live in (annoyingly!)
A. Y.
Charming boutique hotel in South Kensington with a French flair. Well appointed rooms, small gym, good service, and fantastic selection of teas. Have stayed here several times and have been happy with the hotel in general.
C. W.
The family loved the interconnecting rooms, the rooms being a fantastic space to retreat to after a day in London. The team are always friendly, helpful and considerate while the hotel is well finished and has probably the best climate control and electronics or any hotel I've stayed in.
A real pleasure of a stay, we will all be back.
C. L.
Fantastic hotel, service and location! The service at checkin / checkout was perfect, lovely service at the bar and room service too. The superior room was clean, comfortable and had a mini bar for free. Perfect located close to the underground and in the centre of London. We loved it and will be back!
L. G.
We booked this hotel through our AmEx card which gave us an upgrade (if available), 5x the points and a $100 credit. We were not familiar with London and this hotel’s location. Wow! What a lovely surprise to see it is just steps from the South Kensington tube station and a bus stop right outside! When we checked in, we were actually given a triple upgrade to a lovely, HUGE room with a large bathroom! We were lucky that we were traveling in the less busy winter season. Fabio and all the other staff were so kind and accommodating. Our room was very quiet as it faced a quiet street at the back of the hotel. The bed was huge and comfy, but the bathroom was the star. The floors were heated and there was a big soaker tub in addition to the large shower. I loved the Occitane bath products and other thoughtful amenities like sewing and vanity kits, a loofah mitt and robes and slippers etc. There was tea and coffee service (Nespresso)and a free mini bar with juice, sodas and water. We also had use of an unlocked smart phone to use while sightseeing and free long distance calls. We used our credit for breakfast one morning and the best dinner we had in London. We loved the hotel’s cosy restaurant. We will definitely return to this hotel!

Check in was very quick, staff were friendly. My favorite thing about the hotel was the location - right next to south Kensington station. My room was spacious, bathroom had heated floors, there was ac in the room and everything in the minibar was free.

We stayed here for 3 nights and were very happy with the hotel. The location is perfect if you are museum fan and use Tube a lot. We usually only stay in the Kensington area when we visit London and the Ampersand is definitely one of the best in the area.
The room itself is modern and beautifully decorated. Im picky when it comes to bed sheet and I love the sheets there - so soft and smooth. The space in the room is definitely small but this is London after all.
C. B.
A delightful afternoon tea. Science themed and well thought out for children. Staff were very friendly and kind.
O. N.
Excellent hotel! Advertised as snug, which it was but it didnt matter as everything was to such a high standard! Very comfortable bed and bedding, lovely shower (except if you are very tall). Overall fab experience!
F. P.
We were a party of 15th ladies in the Games Room starting a hen party with afternoon tea. This was delicious with excellent, but not over enthusiastic attention from the staff. The quality of the food was superb and plates of extra food were brought out during the afternoon. An excellent experience.
b.
Excellent service! Rooms are very nice with modern decor. The hotel restaurant has very good cocktails and the food is one of the best that you could ever find. This is the second time we visit the hotel and definitely will be back.
A. W.
Lovely hotel, close to the tube station and handy for central London shopping.
The room was a little on the small side but that didn't bother us as it was such a nice room and we were only there for one night. The shower was amazing and I particularly liked the little extra touches such as Loccitane and Millar Harris toiletries , the fridge with complimentary water and juices and the newspaper left on our door in the morning. Oh I nearly forgot to mention the cute little rubber duck ! We will definitely choose to stay here again.
O. P.
Lovely older Hotel. Rooms are small but very cosy. Due to the structure you will here other showers or footstep. Some hooks on the Wall would be great for Jackets, or in the Bathroom for the Towels. The once provided are for the Bathrobe. No turndown service. And today the room wasn't made at 1345 pm.... But all in all nice Hotel with excellent location, just a minute walk from South Kensington Underground Station.
L. W.
Excellent location close to South Kensington Underground. My friend and I enjoyed an amazing Halloween themed afternoon tea in the contemporary Drawing Room of the hotel. The afternoon tea was delicious, fun and creative. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly.
S. R.
Great location, immediately next to several bars, cafes, shops and also good transport links with bus stops, South Kensington underground station and Santander cycle hire all within a minute walk.
Hotel room was well appointed, free wifi, free minibar and good selection of tea, coffee etc. A little street noise, but didn’t affect us. Only thing they could improve on is the service in the bar area.
Highly recommended!
S. D.
Wonderfully situated hotel in South Kensington.
One minute to the South Kensington Underground station
and several bus stop provide potential rides in almost any direction in London.
Also very near many restaurants and shops.
The Victoria & Albert and Natural History museums are just around the corner.
This hotel has a charming bar if you would like an upscale meeting place.

If it were possible to give six stars, I would. I booked a last minute trip to London and decided on this hotel, in South Kensington. It is conveniently located right near the metro station which makes traveling around London that much simpler. You can quickly hop on-and-off of the metro as you please and be steps away from your hotel room when you get off in South Ken.
ALL of the staff from the front desk to the cleaning staff show the most respect and politeness to the guest. Each day, a newspaper would be left hanging on the door to my room, complimentary drinks were re-stocked in the fridge, and I'd arrive back to a clean/tidy room.
I had booked at another hotel for the second-half of my trip because I wanted to see a different part of London, I enjoyed The Ampersand so much that I extended my stay there and canceled the other hotel room. I absolutely expect to return one day and this will be the exact place I book my stay at.
If you want a quiet, convenient, and stress-free stay, this is the hotel for you.
A. V.
all was amazing, the room was great, front desk very polite and helpful. I loved the umbrella in the room and asked if I can buy it and the lady on front desk said you can have it for free, usually we sell it but its free for you. That was an icing on the cake.
**the lady waitress in the upstairs café (drawing Room) with a tattoo on her right hand was exceptionally rude, did not hear our order correctly or provide us details of the desert we requested and then got upset when we objected with a wrong order delivered to us. She seems not to be well versed with English.
Would have given a 5* had this incidence not happened.
A. P.
The rooms are small and perfectly formed. At the end of the day the room is for sleeping so doesn't need to be big. Free Wifi and soft drinks in the mini bar. Good location for the underground and to stay for ghe Chelsea Flower Show.
K. G.
Science afternoon tea is such a cool experience, each layer comes paired with beakers and boxes and dry ice smoking. It's theatrical and so much fun. No to mention completely delicious.
D. P.
Fantastic independent boutique hotel. We were looking for a local flavour during our stay in Kensington and The Ampersand didn't let us down. Not the biggest rooms but very well appointed and functional.
J. L.
We came for the Science Afternoon Tea in the Drawing Rooms and I was blown away by the hotel and would love to come back and stay in one of the rooms in the future. The hotel had a games room and a reading room in the communal areas, and the afternoon tea itself was incredible - come for the dry ice and chocolate dinosaurs, stay for the incredible lighting in the foyer and a game of scrabble.
S. W.
It's a lovely hotel. My wife and I ate out at a great restaurant nearby but the breakfast at the hotel was nice. The staff are friendly and helpful. Great location, relaxed and comfortable room that is modern and clean. We slept well and enjoyed our stay in South Kensington
S. S.
I love independently owned hotels and this hotel made my trip to London a memorable one. Close to the V&A Museum, Science Museum and other attractions, easy access by underground and bus, and located in a quiet and posh South Kensington neighborhood with cute shops and eateries. Staffs are so welcoming and eager to help, and details like free handy smartphone, heated floors in bathroom, rubber duck in shower and book on nightstands are nice. 2 restaurants in premise. Definitely recommended!
R. W.
Great afternoon tea here in a pretty cool part of London. We were there for a "science" themed afternoon tea, complete with test tubes, dry ice and some really nice food. It's expensive, but it's probably worth a splurge.
A.
Absolutely lovely. Went here for afternoon tea which is delicious and reasonably priced for London. The bathrooms are very nice and are scented with different smells depending on the name on the door of each!
J. K.
‘Small Luxury Hotels’ is their pitch. But no focus has been given to practicality. Rooms are designed like a shoebox with smallest of wardrobe ever. Huge bathrooms for no reason.
K. B.
Went for the science afternoon tea. Unfortunately compared to other teas it wasn't as good for overall quality. The science element while cute wasn't that great. The food was presented with minimal explanations.
N. B.
Thank you for the great experience of the days at the Ampersand Hotel. The room 315 was very small, but ok for a short stay. The location of the hotel is fantastic and it’s just 50 yards to Underground Station South Kensington (Piccadilly line). The Hyde Park is very close. A plenty of cafes and restaurants are around the street of Ampersand hotel... A place to come back!
W. B.
We went as a group of six to an Ampersand Hotel Science Afternoon Tea during the week in January 2018. This would be my first afternoon tea experience. The drawing room was pleasantly decorated and comfortable with enough space between the tables so as to not be crowded.
Once we were settled and had ordered our teas we had an experiment to conduct! Components to make lemonade were brought to us in a metal kidney dish. A small bottle of water, a test tube of lemon juice, a syringe of glucose, a pipette of raspberry, a pipette of passion fruit and a sachet of powder to make it fizz.
Various attempts at lemonade were made. It was more on the traditional lemonade side so quite bitter, but that was fine for my palate. I know service is an important aspect of a five start hotel but a little warning that the sachet was already cut open would have been helpful as a couple of them ended up emptied over the table! They were replaced, of course, but I think we were all young and fit enough to have been able to open our own sachets in the first place. Nevertheless, a very playful way to start the science tea!
Along came the sandwiches, scones and cakes. Two sets came out first, followed shortly afterwards by the third set and a party trick to go along with it. The top tier plate with the cakes had a small dish of dry ice in it, which the waiter poured some water into to bring smoke cascading down the three tiers. It was a very good effect and continued the science theme. The timing could have been a little better. It would have been nice to have all three sets out at once and then immediately water poured over the dry ice. That would have been far more dramatic.
Tea arrived with or shortly after the food had arrived. The first round was mostly split between their breakfast blend and darjeeling. I was one of the ones having darjeeling and it was light, floral and refreshing, as you would expect.
The savoury tier consisted of smoked salmon blinis, roast beef and horse radish in a brioche bun, coronation chicken in a bun and a goats cheese and cranberry quiche. All were very tasty although the goats cheese was not to my taste. We had to have a second round, of course! Although we could have chosen which ones to have, we kept it simple and swapped amongst ourselves as our preferences dictated.
Plain and white chocolate scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam was the next tier. They were also good, if a little crumbly here and there. We missed a trick with the scones, however. There were test tubes of freeze dried raspberry, pineapple and caramel chunks on the table which could have been used to augment the scone toppings but they were never explained to us in time before we were onto the sweet course. I would have been good for a waiter to have explained those tubes either right at the start or when they noticed us start on the scones. A missed opportunity.
Around this point we had another round of tea. I chose jasmine this time which was, again, faultless and flowery.
Finally, the sweet tier. This consisted of a petri dish of processco and kiwi jelly, passion fruit planet mousse with white chocolate ring, orange and lemon half moon cake and a coconut macaroon with a pipette of blueberry jam. This tier, in the looks department, really made it a "science" tea. Especially the planet mousse. We felt the best was the passion fruit planet mousse and least was the macaroon.
Whilst starting to eat the petri dish a passing waiter exclaimed along the lines of "Urgh, you're not going to eat that, are you?!" we laughed along with him. It's good to see the staff having a sense of humour, it definitely adds to the experience.
We were all pretty much done by this point, all very much satisfied. Afternoon tea is more than just tea and cakes, it's a whole lunch and with a theme like the Ampersand has done it ends up an experience too! With my first afternoon tea under my belt I'm eager to check out more now.
Overall, very good afternoon tea although the service could have been a little better in places.
S. B.
Great hotel in south Kensington. 1 block to tube station. Plenty of neighborhood restaurants and shops. Quick walks to 3 excellent museums. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Walk to Harrods and Knightsbridge shopping.
Elevator, A/C, in-room safe & hairdryer, smartphone provided for local usage and International calls. Complimentary coffee maker, tea & beverages provided in room. Comfortable bed. Small but uncrowded fitness room. Excellent restaurant, Apero, with interesting science themed afternoon tea but occasionally slow service.
M. R.
Fantastic hotel! Rooms are very new, nice and comfortable. A bit small but we are in London! The staff is incredible and location is perfect!
T. D.
Had, and am still having, a great time at the Ampersand Hotel. Fabulous hotel with immaculate rooms and lounge areas. All the staff are super friendly and ever so helpful in making our stay a success. Would certainly recommend this to all the people I care about.
N. T.
Disappointing. Staff were professional but lacked warmth. The room was stylish but vibrated, can only assume this was the tube passing under the hotel. Some of the tech didn’t work or was outdated (iPhone dock for iPhone 4). Average
A. U.
Bedrooms at The Ampersand are individually decorated with bold contemporary wallpaper designs and original Victorian features. Each room has a minibar, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, and an en suite bathroom.
As well as the hotel’s well-equipped gym, guests will have access to information regarding horse riding, private trainers and running routes.
Within 2 minutes’ walk of the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, Harrods and Hyde Park are just 15 minutes away by foot.

This months afternoon tea with Jen was definitely our favourite and one that we’d been hoping to try for a very long time. You see the Ampersand Hotel like to alternate their afternoon teas switching it up for a different theme every two to three weeks but always coming back to the very popular Science afternoon tea.
Based in South Kensington about a five-minute walk from museum central it’s easy to see where the inspiration comes from. Tea is served in the lovely Drawing Rooms, a light airy room with a vintage feel and the perfect setting for a leisurely afternoon tea date.
There was a wide range to teas to choose and I was torn between two. The one that I tried to order actually wasn’t included which was actually a good thing as it made the decision for me.
For savouries there were gougères instead of sandwiches; tiny little savoury choux pastry buns which made a delightful change. Gloucester old spot ham, Forman & Son smoked salmon, dill & cream cheese, coronation chicken and cheese with fruit chutney. All of which were lovely but of course the salmon was my favourite as always!
The scones were a little different from usual as well laced with white chocolate chips rather than the regular sultanas a huge improvement in my opinion, you should know by now of my hatred of sultans, but it didn’t really add that much flavour to them over plain scones.
But what we were really looking forward to was the pastries! The smoke had long since cleared (for safety reasons, the dry ice was removed before we were allowed to touch anything) but it was difficult to decide where to begin. There was a small cake shaped like a planet. A beaker of citrus cocktail. A pistachio macaron complete with cherry sauce pipette. And a volcano made from chocolate cake and mango mousse complete with chocolate dinosaurs.
Now I’m not going to lie and say these were the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth, they weren’t, but they were delicious and the novelty value definitely adds to the experience. The hotel itself is also exceptionally beautiful and we had a little snoop around on our way to the bathroom before we left. The service could have been a little bit better (we had to ask for a glass of water twice before it arrived) but it was a really enjoyable experience and we’ve likely been spoiled for future outings!
S. H.
Great place for afternoon tea, especially for the children. The lovely staff were all very friendly and attentive.

Excellent Champagne, premium teas and coffees, and home-made pastries in the Ampersand Hotel's Drawing Rooms. Delicious ingredients, striking artwork and, a stylish setting: it's the perfect afternoon!
The Apero restaurant also has a gourmet Mediterranean grazing menu with a fantastic variety of ingredients including tomato, shiso, pepper dressing, cucumber, coriander, lime, chicken, peach, the spices sumac and saffron, squid ink, beetroot and ginger.
V. M.
Terrific location. Room was very nice, though view from the window was that of a brick wall 6 feet away. Bathroom was great with a heated floor. Would happily stay here again.
S. J.
Made a booking on the day via opentable, when we arrived we were told that the booking was on the system. Had to wait for 20 minutes for a free table. They got the first drink order wrong and a drink had to be sent back. A quiche was missing from one of the afternoon teas that was ordered. They removed the tiering of the plates before we had finished, which impacted our afternoon tea experience. The wait staff were friendly but I felt they were too error prone.

So where to begin with our stay at the Ampersand?
Location:
Location is spot on. It's very "centrally" (as central as you can get in London) located. Most of the major attractions are within walking distance. If not, the tube is right next to the hotel!
Pro's
+ Minibar
+ Location (as above)
+ Small touches - Umbrella, mobile phone, everything you may need
+ Bed - excellent nights sleep
Negatives (only minor things):
- No mirror on the desk area for my wife to get ready (hair/makeup)
- Shower, if you're on the tall side (5ft 10 +), you'll be eye level with the shower head.
- Breakfast not included with the price, stayed in similar 5* hotels and breakfast is usually included in all rates.
All in all, we loved the hotel and are quite likely to use it again should we find ourselves back in London.
J. H.
Had a blast at their science tea!
N. c.
A lovely hotel with an excellent location very close to South Kensington underground. Rooms very comfortable, staff very helpful. Taxi drivers can get confused finding this and parking is tricky being at a bus stop.
A. M.
We reallyy enjoy staying here when in London. Nice rooms, good service and a very good breakfast. The rubber duck in the bath always makes us smile :)
C.
BEST HOTEL EVER!
The Ampersand Hotel is in a nice area and close to South Kensington Underground. Charming and cozy rooms. Very good service.
I would love to stay here again!!
D. M.
Very friendly staff, nice rooms and convenient location quite close to Buckingham palace and right next to an underground station. Room service food was unfortunately quite average however and we had ongoing issues with the WiFi internet not working correctly our whole stay
S. D.
The Ampersand has friendly helpful staff and is located near good shopping, restaurants and pubs. The room was very clean and comfortable. We also had a great meal at their restaurant the Apero!
W. M.
Very fun and tasty afternoon tea.
K. M.
Excellent afternoon tea! Good selection of teas and the vegetarian sandwiches were an imaginative selection, rather than a token gesture. The staff were helpful and polite.
P. G.
What I liked:
Very convenient location opposite the South Kensington underground station.
Original yet elegant design of the public spaces and rooms.
Egyptian cotton bed linens.
Two types of pillows: firm and soft.
Radiant heat and rain shower head in the bathroom.
iMacs and color printer available at all times.
Fast Wi-Fi.
Very friendly and professional staff.
Lunch in the drawing rooms.
What I didn't like:
Teeny size of the room.
Very confusing over-designed light controls.
Electronic do-not-disturb sign that can be turned on accidentally, resulting in no cleaning of the room that day.
B. W.
The science themed afternoon tea was very fun for our group. The sitting room is comfortable and stylish and the food service is interesting and tasty.
M.
Best afternoon science tea! Scones are delicious and choices of tea are great! Been twice and would visit again!
K. M.
Very well kept amazingly polite staff and clean hotel
果.
Beautiful hotel in a fun neighborhood. Excellent service from all staff, great breakfast and coffee, easy underground access, fun to walk about each evening choosing restaurants. Museums down the street.
T. M.
It's a great hotel, located withing stumbling range of the South Kensington tube stop.
Our suite at the Ampersand had two cozy rooms and a bath. The sitting room had two mini-fridges stocked with complimentary still and fizzy waters, Cokes, juices, bottle of Absolut vodka (Half-consumed…left by previous guest?), and a 189 ml bottle of semi-skim milk. The refrigerators’ marble-topped cabinet was the kitchen-area. It had a Nespresso machine with coffee pods. In trying to fire-up the Nespresso machine that first day in London, I fiddled with the switches on wall controlling each electrical outlet, I learned – some eight hours later - that I had cut power to the two fridges .
The kitchen amenities included a microwave, toaster and an electric tea kettle. TVs abounded in the suite, with one in the sitting room, another in the bedroom, and a third in the bathroom. The bathroom TV was perched on the wall, in position to be watched whilst soaking in a deep bathtub.
Each morning, a London Times would be found hanging on the doorknob. To top things off, there were two butter cookies in the kitchen area that the cookie fairy would magically replace soon after consumed.
The hotel had no ice machines, something one takes for granted in the US, and the ice tray in the fridge was empty. So, the first evening I filled the ice tray for tomorrow, and called room service for ice. It arrived promptly and, to celebrate, it was single-malt for all.
Oh, the WiFi was a bit slow. If you are counting on streaming Netflix to one of the welter of TVs, you will be SOL.
A. K.
5 star 🌟 and rightly so
Great location 👌
J. C.
Great people, in special the French guy in reception. He doesn't know too much about football but is funny and kind.
W. Y. C.
Enjoyed afternoon tea here. Cute tea sets with sandwiches, scones and desserts. Quite a lot of food! Service was nice as well and friendly.
v. l.
The perfect stay. The highlight for me was sleeping in for the first time in years, the worlds comfiest bed, the light oculting curtains and sound deadenning throughout the room all come together for that perfect kip.
E. J.
Great hotel - always clean with welcoming staff and an amazing location. Rooms are very small (not a problem for me but just something to know when booking).
N. S.
Room is stylish, well designed and with high ceiling. Bathroom comes up with warm flooring which is the best part I like. Location is almost next to Soth Kensington Tube.
g.
The lounge is a great place to have coffee/tea though the pastries are a little expensive. Much better option than a coffee shop: no facilities for laptops but great for quiet contemplation.
D. S.
Super friendly and helpful staff. Good rooms. Great location. The rubber duck was an awesome added touch!
A. M.
Great location next to lots of great eats! The room was small but had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again.
W.
Thank you for making it fun to be out on a wet 'n' rainy day!

(Translated) It was right next to the subway station, which is convenient for getting to the airport and tourist attractions. The restaurant at the hotel was good, but on weekends it was nice to have a small market nearby and a multinational restaurant.
We stayed for several nights but it was clean, well replenished with amenities and towels, and the free drinks such as minibar were excellent.
It was my first time in England and I didn't know what to do because there was no tip culture in Japan, and although I was poor at English, everyone was very kind.
I want to stay again when I go to England.

(Translated) Booked through Expedia after reading numerous reviews on different sites, the hotel exceeded my expectations!
I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights in September 2013 in a double room with my husband. I must immediately underline the kindness and helpfulness of the staff: they brought me the suitcase, they helped us whenever we asked questions or requests, they always had a smile and nice words for us.
The room was small but elegantly furnished but simply and extremely clean: not a speck of dust or dirt in the closet and bedside table (for safety I passed a disinfectant wipe before storing my things, but it was not absolutely necessary) .
Sheets were changed often and bathroom amenities changed daily.
Due to a bit of fever or had to use room service: prices in line if not lower than those of London restaurants, speed of service (in 10/15 minutes I already had dinner in the room) and the food was not it was pretty good.
What about the library / games room on floor -1? Several books that you can read during your vacation, obviously in English, play station 3 and other games in this spacious room furnished with a sofa and armchairs where you can relax after a day spent seeing the beauties of the city.
Finally, it is very close to the South Kensington tube station and within walking distance of pubs, restaurants, Starbucks and Pret a Manger, so if you don't have breakfast at the hotel (it was a bit expensive, so we preferred to have it elsewhere) you will certainly not starve !
(Original)

(Translated) The Ampersand Hotel is small but makes a luxurious impression. The rooms are cozy and clean and of course equipped with TV, fridge, safe etc. Even a small kettle and a mobile phone are provided. The hotel is easy to get to the metro or a bus stop, small shops are also within walking distance. I have not really checked the service, but the staff is friendly and competent. For a short-term trip you are definitely well taken care of here.
(Original)

It seems that Japan is a hotel that is unique to London.
There are many places to see nearby such as Buckingham Palace and museums. Walking distance.
However the room is not large.
