Reviews of Burn Hall Hotel
This is a slightly strange hotel. Built as a training centre, the conversion to an hotel can not be described as attractive. It has a rather clinical feel to it. That said, we spent an excellent two nights here, with staff that could not be more helpful and friendly. Hotel rates are also very reasonably priced.
The food in the restaurant was amongst the best we have ever had in an hotel, all at reasonable prices. Portions are very generous and delicious.
Breakfast is of a buffet style and again of a very high standard.
The room was very comfortable, if a little dated and the plumbing in the bathroom could do with updating.
We would certainly return.
Staff was amazing ! Very welcoming, hotel staff so kind and helpful. Cleaning staff were so lovely and really went above and beyond. It was very hot so they made sure we had fans. Bar staff was fantastic. Coffee was amazing and breakfast tasted gorgeous ! Really chuffed with the value of the room but above all the service was just great ! Decor was lovely also. Nothing negative to say at all :) Thank you for an amazing stay. We was made to feel like family. Will be staying again :)
Great place for a break. Very good customer service, nothing is too much bother for the staff. Room was fine, although it would benefit from easy chairs rather than dining chairs.
Food was very good. I would recommend it as a value for money break.
Best value hotel stay in the area. Staff are extremely attentive. They looked after my elderly mother in law so well. Great food and drinks. Lovely area. We've visited a few times now and be back soon.
Amazing staff. Super kind. If anyone wants to pinch friendly, hard working and knowledgeable staff members come here to recruit them 😉 there was an overflow of guests and they handled the stress under professionally and exceptionally well circumstances (and with speed) during the breakfast rush hour. Great service. Lots of selection for vegetarians and delicious food.
Rooms were adequate for our needs. On the warm side no means of cooling down.
We had the afternoon tea. It was in a very sterile room no atmosphere. Sandwiches were tasty but everything was brown or white colour no theatrics in presentation. Our waiter was impressive thought couldn't fault him for his attention and sense of humour.
In all if it wasn't for the wedding we were attending probably wouldn't have booked b
This is our fourth visit in five years for the Xmas package and from the minute we arrived it was like coming home .The friendly warmth of the team from the get go .Relaxed immediately. Our room was clean and comfortable The food during our stay was first rate. There were new members to the team this year and all were very friendly and efficient. Absolutely no complaints from myself or my wife and our return visits endorse the glowing feedback which we are happy to give
Staff and service excellent. Food excellent and really good value for money. The room we had was small and the beds were narrow and hard. Part of our deal was tickets to the Birds of Prey center which was excellent and not to be missed.
Just had a very pleasent and comfortable
one night stay at Burn Hall. Evening meals rank as one of the best places we have ever eaten .
Bed comfortable. Room a little warm , but better than being cold, and fans are available.
Possibly bath and shower need a bit of upgrading but it didn't bother us as perfect clean .
Breakfast delicious.
Will definitely come again if needing a place to stay in the area
We had a fantastic two nights away. The room was comfortable and very clean. The whole hotel was spotless. The staff were very polite and helpful. The meal we had was on the expensive side but the portions were huge and the beautifully prepared so well worth the money. The grounds were well kept. There was was a wedding on Saturday and the room looked amazing.
On the site is the birds of prey which is welk worth a visit.
Very handy for York we used the park and ride at Rawcliffe which is a 19 minute drive from the hotel. We paid £7.50 return for the both of us.
I didnt stay at the hotel, we just had afternoon tea. It was fabulous. Lovely cakes, sandwiches and hot tea. Made to feel very welcome and we sat there for at least 3 hours. Very enjoyable with great service from the staff. Thanks so much.
Very comfortable, staff friendly and food very good. Room just needs a bit of a refresh and a main light switch near the bed. Would definitely visit again if going to York. Bird of Prey Centre next door definitely worth a visit. We also used the Park & Ride to go into York which was good too.
Rooms are ok, clean and tidy. Bed comfortable. The staff made it a very pleasant stay. Warm and welcoming. Breakfast was ok strange that you have to order fried eggs also no alternative to full English if you want something hot. Nice selection of cereals and fresh fruit. When we stayed the bird of prey experience was closed ( December)which was a shame.
We have just spent two nights here and enjoyed our stay, we got a good deal on travelzoo which included B&B, cream tea and free entry to hawk centre, sadly didn't have time for hawk centre so not sure if it was open or not. Hotel is about 15 min from the York park and ride which we used to visit York town. Our room was clean and warm, Staff are extremely friendly, breakfast was good and food in the restaurant was lovely and at good prices too, couldn't fault this place, highly recommended if wanting to visit York. ❤️
Staff are fantastic.
The beds are comfy, but the bedroom feels small and dated.
Food was OK.
Not much to do here if you don't have a car, as the Bird of Prey experience is closed until mid January.
For the price it's good value, basic rooms but everything we needed. Staff very helpful and nice. Food was good. Not in York but close enough, we drove to Rawcliffe Bar park and ride to get into York
On the plus side
Staff friendly and helpful
Rooms clean
Lovely fluffy towels
Bath towels are really large
Breakfast included
Free parking
Kettle in room
Lovely grounds
The down side
Restaurant was disappointing - the beautiful pictures on display at reception were not reproduced in the restaurant. The pizzas and garlic bread were just standard supermarkets frozen pizzas reheated - we expected homemade ones. All the meals were OK but nothing more.
Fried eggs at breakfast were so greasy they were inedible. Healthy options were minimal.
Shower pressure not good.
Car park fills up so don't come back late at night or you won't get in!!
Just got home from a weekend here. Great value for money. Staff and service provided was excellent. Price of food and drinks very reasonable too. Would definitely stay here again.
A nice hotel in a rural location. Stayed in a very comfortable twin room with en suite bath, shower, sink and toilet . Tiny bottles of conditioning shampoo, body wash and a tiny bar of soap. I am not criticising the size of the soap bar but the shampoo and body wash are insufficient for two people. Beds very comfortable and I slept well. The room had a good number of electrical sockets and both myself and my friend both use CPAP machines whilst sleeping so this is an important factor. The room was decorated in neutral colours and was very clean with a small amount of tea and coffee which was quite sufficient for our needs. Mirror over the table and full length mirror on the back of the room door. Window that opens for fresh air, don’t know about rooms on the first floor as our room was on the ground floor. Nice, comfortable seating in the bar/lounge area.
The package we were on included breakfast, but certainly no ‘wow’ factor. A buffet breakfast which was quite short of items - sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and baked beans. There were items cooked to order such as poached or fried eggs and a couple of other items. The continental breakfast was also lacking pastries and croissants. Plenty of both brown and white bread for toast with a good choice of preserves, butter portions and vegetable oil spread. The problem I had with the breakfast was I hate mushrooms, the bacon was not cooked enough for me, the sausages were very grainy and, along with the ordered poached eggs, were tasteless. Just had cereal and toast and fruit juice. Would certainly stay here again, just having cereal, toast and juice for breakfast.
From start to finish it was good very attractive staff very smartly dressed . room clean everything we needed nice and warm comfortable bed we went to restaurant food wsa very good my husband said his fish was best he had had the chips were lovely I had belly pork which was nice but not keen on the potato. Breakfast was first class the sausage was really nice you can order fried eggs pochard and porridge would definitely recommend for the price we were shocked how busy it was it is a bit out off the way half an hour drive to York that's what we did had a great time will come again.
Lovely hotel - clean rooms - amazing breakfasts! And the bird of prey centre was epic!
Only let down was the pillows, as they were very flat even though there were 2 each. We had sore necks afterwards.
Fantastic 2 days away. Staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful. Hotel was spotless. Rooms were a little basic but they were fine. Food was incredible (if not slightly pricy)
Location was perfect 15 mins into York using the park and ride costing £7,50 return for 2 people, be aware once in York the number 2 bus can only be caught from the bus stop on museum Street.
On the hotel site is the birds of prey which we really enjoyed and we learned so museum.
I would not hesitate to return here. I would also recommend it for anyone visiting the area.
Great value hotel. Absolutely no reason to not stay again. I will! Stayed in a superior room and would do again. I haven't seen the standard rooms.
We keep for afternoon tea and a visit to the birds of prey as early Christmas presents. Not sure if he was the manager but he was lovely, really friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea was great, all really fresh and plenty for 2 people. Really nice hotel, the bit we saw of it and the grounds were lovely. Would be really nice to sit out on a sunny day with a beer. Then to top off a lovely afternoon meeting shadow the eagle and fidget the baby tawny oil, really enjoyed it. Will definately be back
groundwere lovely, wo
Great two nights stay. Nice room. Nice staff. Nice meals. Really enjoyed birds of prey. We can't fault it.
Lovely friendly hotel, spotless rooms, good breakfast and a good evening food option. Next to York Birds of Prey and guests get free entry tickets. Five minutes from a park and ride to York or 20 mins drive.
Understated country house hotel with friendly yet efficient staff particularly Stuart who was in charge of the restaurant. Just the right mix of warm, friendly and professional.
Staff and service were excellent. Our afternoon tea was good but we felt a bottle bit cheated that the 'frozen cocktail' turned out to be a glass of Prossecco.
Had a perfect stay and our favourite place, comfortable room, our meal and breakfast very nice and to top it of my partner propose to me in the beautiful surrounding grounds .
Fantastic stay here. Room was lovely and bed very comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful and great location
Just come back from our second Christmas staying at Burn Hall. Nothing is too much trouble for the fantastic staff, the food is plentiful and good quality, nice warm room, perfect for a relaxing Christmas away. Hopefully back on the summer!
Amazing value for money. Staff are all excellent. Food was brilliant and bar prices extremely reasonable.
Service in Dining area was superb and so quick !
Rooms a little tired but clean and warm.
Great hotel. Beautiful food, great service. Great price with easy access to York.
From arriving with a lovely smile from reception and the general manager, to arriving to my room, I was felt to feel at home. The room was good for a solo traveller. Nice and clean and all you wanted.
Dinner - Enjoyed a lovely chicken dish and a yummy sticky toffee pudding to die for.
Relaxing in a lovely spacious bath and off to rest in a lovely comfortable bed.
Breakfast - WOW! It's been a long time since I have had a tasty, filling buffet breakfast. Hot, tasty and worth every penny.
Final goodbye - Sad to leave such a friendly, beautiful hotel. Being from and travelling from Essex, it was a great relaxing stop over at a lovely hotel.
Staff - Great to see the General manager interacting with all the guests and supporting the staff during busy periods, A true manager at hart can be clearly seen. All the staff are working hard with a smile to make sure their guests are happy.
Highly recommend this hotel if you are ever looking for a short or long stay.
Massive thank you to the staff there for taking such good care of us. Especially the bar staff Eddie ollie and Scottish stew! Absolute gems 💎
We stayed in early March on the 4 night Spring deal. We upgraded to an Executive room which was clean, spacious and very comfortable. We slept so well as the beds were so comfortable and the room so quiet. The evening meals had great choice and everyone we had was beautifully presented and delicious. We have stayed at this hotel now on 3 occasions and will keep coming back, as lastly but most importantly is the service you receive from all the staff members who are all helpful, friendly and professional. Thank you for another great stay.
Tasty food, salmon. The Malibu pud was something different to try. Fish cakes were good too. The beds were very comfortable!
The bathroom was a bit dated ,could do with a more up-to-date shower and better lighting . Nice grounds and bar areas.
Was a long way outside York but was good value for money. Rooms clean tidy and comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent. Proved to be an excellent base for our extended weekend allowing us to get some rural tranquility after the hustle and bustle of York.
Friendly staff, good food, nice clean dining room. Just a few issues. The bar lounge is looking tired, some of the chairs were really grubby. We upgraded our bedroom which was basic, there was dressing gowns and slippers, tea and coffee facility was good. There were two dining chairs instead of comfy chairs. Overall enjoyed our stay but think it's in need of upgrading.
Standard room like everywhere. Clean and tidy. However location it's really nice. Very peaceful and quiet and if i will have to make some important event i will definitely choose this place for it. Tasty breakfast.
Out in the country about 11 miles from York .
Good location.
Excellent bedroom.
Food Very hot and tasty
Staff were excellent.
A very pleasant stay.
One to return to
My partner took me here for a birthday treat and it did not reach the level that we expected. we have been here previously and it failed to match our experience of last time the food and room standards have dropped noticeably.
Good value, short drive into York, we used the excellent park and ride. Bathroom needs an update. But would be gappy to return.
Pleasant staff comfortable rooms
superb breakfast Fabulous surroundings
just a few miles from York park and ride
Set on its own has plenty of free parking.
From arriving to leaving the staff could not do enough for us, they are fantastic, very polite, the room was so nice and clean, the grounds are amazing, I would recommend this to all my friends and family thank u for a fantastic say
We have stayed here 3 times now. Since lockdown the food isn't as good as what it was. However the the staff are great.
Would stay again but wouldn't dine in again.
Everything about it the staff the food the service friendly atmosphere we had a very enjoyable 2 night stay Thanks to everyone
A really lovely warm welcoming hotel ,staff friendly ,afternoon tea really lovely &tasty.
A very nice place ,just a little thing but the shower was awkward because it couldn't be lowered, also as lots of places they seemed short of staff ,but all the staff were wonderful .
Rooms very clean, beds for us needed to be wider. Facilities good. Food fabulous, breakfast was varied and filling. Staff friendly and exceptional value for money. Would definitely stay there again! 🤩
Room pretty standard, recently decorated and new carpets. Good staff. Car needed to travel anywhere. There's a lack of comfortable public seating areas, though adequate. Food very good both at Dinner and self-service Breakfast. The Falcon Centre in the grounds excellent. Wi-fi good.
The good: Great place, comfortable foods lovely breakfast and we were there for a wedding and they looked after us really well. The staff were great and went above and beyond to make our stay and the special event wonderful.
The sub good: The house red wasn’t brilliant and they didn’t have one of the other wines we wanted but - first world problems and all that. The bar didn’t do any cocktails (seems strange for a hotel bar) and they seemed to close very early - before midnight - despite us being residents and wanting a late taste after the wedding. Anyway - aside from that all good.
Well proportioned rooms, clean, warm and comfortable. Good facilities, various rooms for meetings, weddings, conferences, private dining. Nice large bar and restaurant area. Good selection of light bites, lunches and breakfast. Extensive evening menu, well priced. Plenty of parking. Good location for exploring the area but you will need a car.
Lovely country hotel, great peaceful location and right next door to an amazing birds of prey experience.
The food at the hotel was brilliant and the service was lovely.
The room was your usual thing, nothing special there but the experience as a whole was great me and my partner loved it.
Stayed here over the weekend for a trip to York. Hotel is in a good location, about 10 minutes from York. Hotel is nice looking however I feel that it needs a bit of work. Our room was okay, however I did not enjoy the bed that much. I felt it was not comfortable. The pillows had no support whatsoever and the duvet was too heavy for me - all of these are my own opinions, my partner liked the duvet and mattress but also did not like the pillows. There was also parts of the carpet coming up from the floor near the bedroom door. The toilet made a really loud noise when flushing. The shower was nice, however the holder was falling off the wall. The staff on reception were nice and friendly, and they clearly explained that there could be signal issues with the TVs in the rooms due to a mast being down in the area, which was completely out of their control. We did not eat or drink at the hotel, so we can not comment on the restaurant, breakfast, dinner or the bar. Overall, it was an okay stay at Burn Hall. I would recommend it for those that want a hotel outside of the city of York, and just want a simple room, however for those wanting a bit more than that I would try something else.
Far better than I was expecting after reading some of the review sites! The room was small and basic and a little dated but very clean the mixer shower in the bath was quite powerful although the bath curtain took a shine to me.
Had a meal on our first night and it was of decent quality, soup run of the mill but the gammon excellent. Staff attentive and seemed a happy bunch. Breakfast is mass-catering served from a buffet island and was good overall with the option of ordering eggs as you like which we did when ordering our pot of tea.Two perfect poached eggs each soon came to our table. There is a cereal and mixed fruit and yoghurt option too. Bar not quite big enough to cater for everyone when busy but a decent pint and not a bad choice bar man friendly enough. The hotel is a bit out of the way just over a mile from Huby. Car definitely an essential if you want to get out and about. We chose the park and ride option at the shopping outlet when exploring York and that was very good.
Overall no complaints for the price we paid, it offered very good value for money as we booked on a package deal.
Very comfortable and tidy room with tea & coffee facility available.Situated in the country and own transport a must. The Bird Sanctuary is a must visit it as many birds of prey to see and the displays are great and if you are lucky you get to hold some of the fledglings great experience definitely recommended.
Absolutely fantastic place, got accommodation almost immediately when we called after an hectic but great day out in wonderful York. The Burn Hall Hotel saved the day , they couldn't help enough, thank you so much, can't wait to call again 😀
Not what you would think from the pictures I was very disappointed I got to the hotel 10 minutes early to be told to wait till 2 o clock for my key even though the key was available there was a wedding going on so parking was limited we didn't use the bar as it was full of wedding guests the rooms are very basic for the price we felt very underwhelmed by the whole experience oh and the breakfast was buffet bacon was very dry and hard don t think I would visit this place again
Attended a wedding, staff very helpful, beautiful gardens especially for the photos
Despite there being very few residents in the hotel due to time of year and covid we were very happy with our stay. Staff were all extremely helpful and friendly, Food was good with plenty of choice both for evening meal and breakfast. Room was large and clean. For the price we were very impressed and surprised.
A great couple of nights, the lady on reception was excellent, efficient, very friendly, room large very clean, warm, comfortable, very peaceful, breakfast hot and tasty...the bar comfortable seating, but arrive early, it gets full. A special mention to barman Stewart... A great guy, efficient, chatty, a definitely asset to the hotel.. summing up, definitely worth a visit
Great room for the price, restaurant was very good, service and food were excellent
Had an amazing weekend here, would thoroughly recommend it.
Beautiful hotel in nice garden's, ideal for a quiet break.
The staff are very friendly and the food is delicious.
Would also recommend the bird of prey centre next door, fantastic day out very informative and interesting.
We stayed with a couple of friends. Lovely hotel with great staff. We booked one of their two night special breaks, which included breakfast and £15 per person towards a meal in the restaurant on the first night. Needless to say we all booked a table for the second night. Bar prices reasonable for a hotel. Will definitely return.
Had a course inside hotel and we had 2 courses for lunch food was really nice sausage and mash
Nice hotel, great staff, good food, just a little bit far from York,
Nice place for a relaxing quiet break rooms could do with a little sprucing especially bathroom but the staff couldn't do enough for you very friendly and very helpfull.
On the positives, the hotel is in a rural and secluded location, about 25 mins drive from York. It has beautiful gardens and ample parking. Reception staff were really great. The rooms were slightly on the smaller side but the bathroom was quite big. On the negatives, although the bed was comfy, ours was very squeaky with every move and the bathroom plumbing made a bit if a noise. The shower could be improved by having separate controls for the taps and the shower. We didn't have breakfast here, unless you are in a top knotch hotel, the breakfast at budget hotels don't represent value for money. Overall not a bad experience but some minor improvements are necessary.
A luxurious hotel. Well situated in? Close to York, manicured ground, an old manor house, now extended. Staff polite and nothing too difficult to make your stay more pleasurable.
Delicious food, friendly and welcoming staff, clean & comfortable room. Will stay here again.
Had a two night break here with my Wife. The customer service was excellent, very friendly staff. The standard of food was also excellent with generous portions. Although the bedrooms are fairly basic, they are clean and comfortable. Only criticism was the drab net curtain up at the window, these needs attention. Value for money is very good, we will return.
Set in lovely grounds, friendly service and clean bedrooms. Food really nice, will return
Stayed there before. Good spot if you have a car, as there is nothing of note in walking distance. Clean room with the basic essentials (TV not working during our 3 day stay - supposedly a problem with the local transmitter). Good included breakfast, evening meals seemed overpriced compared to some local pubs (try the Flying Legends a short drive away). We had a "Summer deal", so decent value for the money.
A very pleasant stay. Polite efficient staff worked very hard to give a good service. Unseen staff eg chefs prepared hot well prepared meals deserve a thank you. We were not in the main restaurant which was a shame but we were part of a coach tour so it was necessary as we were 41 in number.
Only disadvantage was the location as it is isolated and transport essential. A pleasant stay.
Absolutely the most chilled out ..comfy place I have ever stayed in.The choice of food was the most varied and the tastes were exquisite whatever you ordered. We had the breakfast.. starters...room service and a cream tea and food wise this was the best place I have ever stayed in.Stewart..the bar manager..multitasked his way to a perfect pink gin and tonic...served our starters and delicately presented our cream tea while answering our questions and advising us on local events. The room was spacious and beds were really comfortable. We didn't leave the site as the Birds of Prey Centre which is inside took up a few hours of our day.How excellent was that. The hotel does 2 night deals from £99 for 2 people. This includes free tickets to the Bird of Prey Centre...2 breakfasts...£15 per person on the first night towards dinner...and also a cream tea!
You are within spitting distance of York.
The grounds of the hotel are lively and there are plenty of places to sit outside.
Do please stay here. It's a gem.
Visited for a wedding and stayed in the hotel for a night. Very well organised wedding, ran very smoothly and the reception rooms used are welcoming and nicely set out. Bar area clean, open and well.stocked. Breakfast very good with a tasty selection, sausages particularly nice. Staff very professional. Only down side was the bedroom itself which is very dated, you think you're staying in a country hotel but is actually a badly furnished travel lodge room (the furniture seems to be ex travel lodge and doesn't fit well in the room) bathroom very large and again dated, I would prefer less unusable room in the bathroom and room to move in the bedroom.
Bought a Wowcher deal inc 2 night stay, breakfast, cream tea & tickets to the Bird of Prey Centre. Absolutely the best weekend we've ever had. Hotel, food were brilliant, and the Bird Centre just topped it off. That place was amazing. Will definitely be back next year.
Only fault was the squeaky floorboards above, that wouldn't have been an issue if the guests wasn't up at 5.30am.
100% recommend this hotel.
Great place bit out of the way. But had a great 2 nights stay. Service food and staff were all great. Rooms are clean and spacious huge super king bed spot on. Thanks.
Lovely place in a quiet area. It's clean and tidy and the food is of a good standard and good portion size. The suite that I had was a very good size with a massive bed and was a nice place to be. Staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. I will be going back at some point and would recommend to others.
Rooms were a bit dated but clean. Staff were all good, but breakfast was very disappointing: Sausages were bland and other options were limited.
Lovely hotel, food and drink, reasonable price
The room we stayed in was a double. For us a bigger bed next time
Set in some beautiful grounds and countryside with freshly cut lawns and shrubbery. Outside tables and chairs to relax in and benches along the walkways of the fantastic gardens. Plenty of car parking spaces with disabled parking as well, fully covid provision with masks being worn inside the hotel but are removed in the restaurant and bar areas. Very roomy bedrooms and bathroom with two easy chairs which if you sit in them too long becomes uncomfortable. Full English breakfast is served with tea, coffee and juice and toast but no cereal or fresh fruit as everything is brought to your table. A very limited dining menu but we had the gammon which was very nice, we finished off with sticky toffee pudding and my wife had the cheese cake which we thoroughly enjoyed. All the staff are helpful and friendly as well as the reception staff
Booked a suite, turned out to be a bedroom with the bed folded up into the wall and two dining chairs placed against the wall! Not quite what we had expected! Food ok, buffet breakfast but handsanitiser empty the entire time we were there even though we pointed out first night of our two night stay...... hesitant to touch handles on the self serve buffet given current pandemic.
Excellent hotel
Lovely friendly staff, very helpful. Food first class, beautifull presentation. Had a fantastic new year dinner dance. Can't wait to return. Value for money.
Outstanding hotel, service exemplary. Check in swift and efficient, room extremely comfortable and clean, service at the bar quick and friendly and reasonably priced, food out of this world at very reasonable prices. Conference facilities excellent. All in all a fantastic hotel
Went here for a couple of days. Hotel spotlessly clean, decor lovely. Staff very friendly. Ate at the restaurant both nights, food was excellent, good size portions, reasonably priced. Went to York bird of prey which is part of this hotel. Had a really nice time, educational along with actual bird handling including an Eagle, owls etc. Nice weekend away.
Just had a great weekend at this hotel.Very pleased with room, which was clean, warm with a huge bathroom. 2 night stay yet towels were changed! Very impressive! Food in restaurant was absolutely fantastic, couldn't possibly have eaten it all. Had fish and chips, absolutely huge portion, where do you do your fishing? Never seen fish so big! Breakfast was more than satisfactory, don't know what the previous reviewer wanted when they said that there was not much choice, there was fresh fruit, choice of cereals, porridge, all the cooked breakfast items you could possibly need. Please don't let the moaners put you off staying here, it is a lovely hotel, especially for the money we paid.
A well appointed hotel with an excellent restaurant. Family had recommended this (especially as there was a two night deal with meals included or discounted). We would happily stay here again
Lovely grounds and plenty of parking space.
No welcome at all on arrival, reception person obviously not a people person. No information given on hotel or amenities other than we were 25mins early and we couldn’t check in until 2pm. We weren’t to early that we couldn’t pay for the room in advance though!
Had the Sunday carvery and expensive at nigh on £12 for what you got, plus it was just warm. Service chaotic and undermanned. Opted for turkey and this was cut with a lazer it was that thin.
Room small and in need of refurbishment to bring it into the 21 century. Flat screen TV quite large but no signal so inoperative.
Evening meal more akin to bar food than restaurant food, you pay restaurant prices though.
Bathroom antiquated.
I was looking forward to Breakfast as the best I’ve ever had was the Best western Chester. Unfortunately this best western hotel didn’t even attain average as the sausage I found inedible and the bacon that fatty the pig it came from probably died of heart disease or natural causes.
This was coupled by a poor selection / choices although the service was good.
Would I return? Sorry but no.
Booked afternoon tea here for 4 on 27/05/21, was well worth a visit, it was beautiful. The a tea was lovely, a nice selection of freshly made sandwiches and cakes, the staff were great and very helpful. Will definitely book again. There was a bonus too and that was to go round York Bird of Prey Centre. Lovely afternoon was had by all including my 14 month old granddaughter
Just had a lovely 2 nights staying here as such a very friendly hotel with excellent staff who make your stay very enjoyable.
The grounds to the hotel are not huge but there is plenty of parking and a well kept garden facing the hotel, you can sit out on tables to enjoy the view.
The food at the hotel is excellent we enjoyed the menu over two evenings, more than ample portions so beware.
The breakfast was also very good, plenty of choice & well cooked as a buffet style due to Covid regulations.
The staff were all helpful and efficient as it was very busy.
The room we had was comfortable, very clean without being to small, yes the rooms could do with an update but it's not a 5 star hotel so is more than adequate.
Whilst there you can visit the Bird of Prey centre which is in the hotel's grounds and that is definitely worth a visit if interested in birds.
You can easily get to York from there, I drove 6 miles to the park & ride and took the bus for £3.30 return, much better than driving as parking is very limited in York & the buses are run very regularly.
I would definitely do a return visit as a very peaceful stay with excellent staff.
A beautiful location, comfortable rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Great breakfast. Really enjoyed our stay here 🙂
We have just returned home from burn hall hotel , the food was excellent , we had both evening dinner , and breakfast .service fantastic , I’ve got too mention one particular staff member Stuart behind bar , you was amazing funny and made our stay even better , we will miss you and your sense of humour . Thanks to all though you were all amazing
Just looking at a special offer I got through for this place looks lovely and bird of prey place looks great
Room was in annexe but was 'ok'!
Chaotic at breakfast but food OK and staff 'doing their best'!
Lovely stay. The hotel was clean, fresh, tidy, easy to get to and in a beautiful location. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The Bird of Prey Centre (free entry as part of our booking) was fab and the show there was really interesting.
Definitely will be going back again
Our room was a bit in need of redecoration and tlc. Good breakfast but no tomatoes. Empty food containers each morning. Lovely poached eggs and tasty sausages. Beautiful surroundings and lawn.
We booked a 2 night stay through Travel zoo which was amazing value and included cream tea and entry to Bird of Prey centre which is situated literally at the end of the car park. Hotel is currently offering a different 2 night break which is also very good value.
We opted for a standard room which was perfectly adequate for our needs. The bedroom and public areas were very nicely decorated and we're spotless. Breakfast was amazing with plenty of choice though we did not notice any vegetarian options on the cooked breakfast.
All staff we encountered were very pleasant and helpful.
All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing stay and we have already recommended to friends and colleagues.
Hotel is about 8 miles from York and we would say car is essential as is not on main road so getting there by public transport would be difficult.
A very good break. Meals very good and very filling. Our room very spacious with a disabled bathroom, very clean. Staff very helpful and pleasant. The birds of prey experience very good. The staff full of information and encouraged people to take part when birds flying. Would certainly recommend this hotel. A very good hotel at an excellent price.
Staff is excellent. Check in was easy. The room was neat and clean. The bathroom was spotless. Parking is free. Would stay here again if coming to York or traveling further north.
Been here for a course for the last couple of days and it's been a while since I've stayed. The rooms are adequate and confortable but are a little bit on the tired side. Shocked to find my bedroom wasn't serviced though can't really blame Covid for not. Evening meal was good and well presented with a fair choice of options. Shame about breakfast as it is a plated service due to Covid. Disappointingly no cereal choice and the resteraunt gets very busy. So it is not good if you want a quick turn around. Overall I can't rate this any higher because of the room and breakfast service.
Comfortable, clean room in a fairly large hotel in nice grounds in a very rural setting. Friendly staff and plenty of on site parking. Food menu in restaurant expensive but can recommend the chippy on Main Street in nearby Huby. When we arrived TV had only a few channels due to fire at local TV mast but just retuned the tv and it picked up all Freeview channels from north east.
Lovely quiet location so hot slept with window open with no disturbance. Room a bit small but big bathroom. Staff pleasant and attentive. Had a good value package through an online booking facility, staff knew exactly what was included so didn't have to ask. Food in restaurant was good but too much. Huge portions meant so much was wasted which was a double edged sword- clients were too full to try a tempting dessert and kitchen missed out on sales. Smaller portions please!
We have stayed here several times but this is the first time since the lock down. They had put several covid safety measures in place and we felt safe at all times. Staff were their efficient and friendly. Dinner was delicious and breakfast although not the usual buffet style was more than sufficient.
Food was very good, the staff were mostly polite and attentive. A slight let down are the bedrooms, or in particular the bathroom. Just very dated, and dark as a York dungeon, old fashioned shower connected to bath taps that goes hot or cold if nextdoor use their water at the same time. Urinals near hotel bar were leaking enough that most of the floor was a puddle in the gents. Obviously known problem as they were shut Friday with out of order sign, but opened up Saturday because a wedding party was in. TVs not working in many rooms, local transmitter fault out of their control, but no alternative like Freesat. If you want a place off the beaten track, with good food this place is fine, just could do with a refurb in places.
We booked in for New Years eve. Glad we did, it was a very pleasant stay. Started with afternoon tea at 2pm, good coffee, sandwiches and cakes. Followed by 3 course dinner at 8:30pm (very good food) Very attentive staff and a very good DJ on the music (not much to my taste) very entertaining and the dance floor always full. A comfortable night stay and tasty breakfast....
Nice conference hotel outside York. Quick check-in, restaurant was busy so went in bar to eat, and found could choose from same menu as restaurant. Room nice and clean. Bathroom large and clean with bath and shower. Would recommend.
We booked fairly last minute via travel zoo on a fab deal inc afternoon tea , 2 nights, breakfast and free wine with dinner. We were pleasantly surprised once we arrived, the reception staff were great, really friendly and helpful sending us for afternoon tea while our room was being prepared. The bar staff and restaurant staff were equally friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble! They warmed milk for my coffee and to take to our room for hot chocolate for our 6 year old, they also really fussed over him. The grounds are fab! A big lawn to the front is great for kids to run around and large umbrellas over the patio mean you can sit outside even in the rain!
We upgraded to a king size room with z bed for our son and it was clean and tidy with a nice selection of treats including luxury hot chocolate, custard creams and toffee crisps!!!! Dinner and breakfast were great! Pre ordered due to Covid, breakfast served hot to your table was lovely!! Nice portions too!! Around 20-min drive to York too so really handy! Free tickets to bird of prey too which is next door to the hotel you walk through the car park!!! Will 100% stay here again!!! Well done to all staff in the difficult circumstances with masks and one way system but still happy and getting on with it!!!! *****
Thank you for an amazing break. The staff are so friendly & helpful, the rooms are comfortable, clean & well decorated. The food is absolutely delicious & well priced & the surrounding area is beautiful & tranquil
Room was clean and adequate (129). Quiet at the back of hotel. Breakfasts was excellent both mornings,, plenty of choice. Evening meals were very good, large portions too. Nice cream tea on arrival. Bar prices a little bit expensive but you find that in most hotels. Were given two free tickets to the Bird of Prey sanctuary, five minutes walk down gravel path at side of hotel. This was very interesting. Staff were very friendly throughout. Would definitely recommend. Only 10 minutes drive to Park and Ride for a day out in York.
2 nights great stay. Lovely rural & quiet location. Room has everything you need. Reception customer service excellent. Breakfast menu selection good. You can order preferred eggs so freshly cooked to order. You can also order extra menu choice if preferred at a supplement. Staff service excellent. I didn't use the dinner menu but it looked good & reasonably priced.
Just come back from a 2 night stay, had a great time ,staff fabulous nothing too much trouble, Food was excellent and reasonably priced definitely will be returning
Tired decor and some staff not as pleasant is others. Did not eat here as we thought the prices quite high for the standards we saw at the hotel. Very unimpressed with the response from reception when we pointed out that the milk cartons in the room were 3 weeks past use by date (told that their suppliers said it didn't matter). For the room price expected better but the 3* represent the reasonable standard of cleanliness.
Fine hotel in a good setting, has a feeling of corporate stays about it but at the same time it wouldn't be chosen by corporates if there was anything wrong with it. Breakfast was and lots of outdoor space with seating to enjoy
Nice and spacious room. Clean. A bit out of town, but there was a beautiful garden area to walk around so that was nice. The staff was fantastic. We had dinner in a separate room that they generally use as a banquet hall land the group of students I was with had an impromptu dance party. The staff allowed the students to hook into their audio system to play over the loud system. They had a blast and the staff was kind to allow that.
Spotlessly clean, well maintained, comfortable hotel. A great 2 night stay. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Good shower with plenty of hot water. Excellent breakfast, and the evening meal was fabulous and great value. We will be returning to explore more of Yorkshire.
Lovely staff, but a poorly stocked bar. Rooms have been party tidied up but some of the furniture is badly in need of an update. Book a room at the back as its much quieter.
I have recently stayed at the Burn Hall hotel and i was very impressed, on arrival we were greeted by John who i have to say has a great personality, he puts you at ease straight away. The hotel overall was excellent and a pleasure to stay at. In the dinning room the food was excellent too and the efficiency of the staff is the best i have seen in a long time. John and Alan were always on hand to meet your needs if the menu was not to your liking. All of the staff were very polite and professional and i would highly recommend this hotel, ten out of ten everyone thank you.
We've stayed at this hotel 3-4 times over the last 2 years. It is a beautiful hotel, the rooms are always clean, the staff is very polite and approachable. The food is very good, and the drink menu is extensive. There is a lot of space to sit and enjoy your day and seating is plentiful for eating. My Husband and I will come back for another stay in the future. Highly recommend this hotel!
Bathrobes to small asked to change no change. The young male waiter in the restaurant looked like his suit could do with a wash and iron but everything else was fine thanks
Held our daughters naming ceremony here and the location and the staff were amazing. Great venue.
A friendly greeting from the reception staff and the room was clean and suitable for our one night stay. We enjoyed a drink in the well stocked bar with tea and coffee also available. Afternoon tea was also on offer if you wanted it. We had an evening meal at the restaurant and the food was excellent with good sized portions. Will definitely be back next time we visit York.
Got a really good 2night B&B + 1night dinner deal here for £119 per couple for an executive room. Hotel was extremely busy each night with 2 very large parties but dinner was still served promptly and was very good.
Bedrooms were clean and adequate although not really 'executive' class.
Staff helpful and extremely pleasant.
Only marked down to 4star because of difficulty getting served at small bar and for not investigating a phone fault that I reported the afternoon I arrived.
Would certainly recommend a stay here anyway.
Reasonably priced hotel in a beautiful location only 20 mins from York. The on site birds of prey centre is incredible, and the daily breakfast is plentiful. Only real issue was the flat as pancake pillows, but reception located extras for us when we asked. Most of the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Rooms practical and clean. We ended up being given a disabled access room which had disadvantages for abled person as sink, mirror in bathroom and bath too low and toilet too high. Would have been good if the receptionist had advised us beforehand that they had allocated this room to us and given option to change if need be as we definitely would have seeing that we had paid for an upgrade when booking. Breakfast was mediocre but must say really enjoyed evening meal.
Absolutely wonderful stay. Comfortable, immaculate rooms. Staff who are friendly, professional and nothing too much trouble for them. Wonderful chef the dinner we had served to us in the restaurant was superb and is was served to us by smartly dressed staff. I could go on we will certainly return.
Still here on our 2 day break but wanted to compliment the breakfast staff. We arrived down late this morning. Completely our fault but we were given coffee, toast and bacon. Very happy about this 😊
A large county side hotel with bar, restaurant and gym. Simple rooms with basic bathroom.
Staff really friendly and helpfull. Evening meal good value with plenty of food for money although better than 6 choices of same foods would of been nice. Breakfast i found not so good coffe and scrambled eggs both cold. Room adequate.
Hotel rooms are adequate to use as a base for surrounding area. Handy for Rawcliffe Park & Ride while still being a nice quiet location. Hotel staff are fantastic and the restaurant food is excellent. Well worth a stay.
My wife had a wowcher voucher for a cream tea, to be honest I wasn't really looking forward to it.
As it turns out the tea was excellent the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you, the pproperty was immaculate.
Well done all
Excellent overnight stay, lovely, friendly staff. We were given a beautiful large room overlooking golf course. The huge bed was extra comfy. Had room service and the food was delivered red hot and tasted excellent. The pool and spa was relaxing and lovely and quiet. The young man on pool reception was friendly and helpfull. Would definitely return. The staff are an asset to to this lovely hotel.
Love this place and surrounding areas. Just up the road to Thirsk and down the road to York. Sutton Bank and Helmsley pretty close and great places to visit. Breakfast is very good as is the evening food. Rooms are perfectly adequate for a couple of nights stay, could do with room refurbishment but for the special deal rates we are perfectly happy. The birds of prey center is next door which is fantastic. Entry is included with the hotel rate. Been about 5 times now and will be back after lockdown. Highly recommend.
Lovely quiet out of the way location. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff very pleasant. Very covid friendly, lots of sanitising stations around the building. Food was very nice too.
In the grounds there is a bird of prey sanctuary that we were given free passes for. The designer shopping centre is about a 20 mins drive away. Its a nice base to use to sight see in York if you dont want to be in the thick of it.
We enjoyed our stay and wouldnt rule out going back.
My Sister and I visited your Hotel recently for a short stay, having not stayed with you before and were very pleased with all aspects of the Hotel. From the arrival to reception, bedrooms, bar and restaurant, all were of a very high standard. All Staff are very pleasant most personable and helpful. Neither of us will have any problems in recommending the Hotel in the future nor to revisit ourselves.
One observation, I mentioned to Reception, if I was visiting say Italy, I would find it very welcoming and warming to see my "home" flag proudly flying in the Hotel grounds along with others. I realise you only have 3 poles, but, just a personal thought ! Thank you and see you again soon.
Had a great time. Staff really friendly, restaurant food was excellent.. Especially the burger on the main menu. Breakfast is a buffet style, but doesn't have tomatoes which I found unusual for a cooked full English breakfast. Not too far from York (used the Adwicke Park and ride £6.20 for 2 adults. All in all a great stay
Was at at a wedding yesterday my cousins crea and Ben a beautiful place lovely couldn't have picked a better day a beautiful sunny day food was delicious and staff were friendly and the singer outside sang so great songs a day we'll enjoyed.
Overall 8.5 out of ten, reception staff friendly and welcoming, waiters/waitresses could not do enough for you, breakfast delicious, evening meal , not a great deal of choice plus not changed for the next day, very generous size portions ; bed most comfortable, hotel itself spotlessly clean and the ground so nice and quaint , just the small probs with the meals prevents me giving the hotel five stars.
just back from Burn hall... location is nice and quite although plenty to do.. we went to york, Ripon ,Harrogate, thirsk, we stayed for 5 nights. Staff were helpful and friendly.. coffee, hot chocolate, biscuts replenish every day..room cleaned every day! just such a lovely place.. will defo recommend to friends. we had a great time.. ohh meals great value and portion size really good...drinks are a great price £7 for large wine pint of beer 3.50.. BUT If u go THE BIRD OF PRAY SHOW is fantastic.. we paid 20 each for half day great value for money well worth a visit even if u are not staying at hotel..
We had a pleasant stay in this hotel, in a suite. Dinner was delicious and reasonably priced. A good breakfast to send us on our way.
Stayed here for 1 night wish I'd booked all weekend. Checked in quickly and courtesly the room very pleasant and very comfy. Bar area comfortable for me and my partner to stay in all night and Stuart the barman was helpful polite and even checked if we wanted anything more before closing the bar at 12.
Breakfast next day was hot and freshly restocked with good options of cereals juices etc. Coffee or tea was freshly made and served at the table by friendly helpful staff. Speedy check out leading to us being able to get away for our plans in good time.
Will definitely stay here again
Great Hotel, staff are all totally amazing and helpful. Great relaxed atmosphere. The food is excellent, all homemade from scratch, locally sourced. Best homemade soup I have ever tasted, portions are very generous waiting staff all friendly and and attentive. Burn Hall have got it all right with they're staff choices, what a team! Can't complain about anything. Set in lovely well kept grounds right next door to a wild bird sanctuary. What more can you ask for? Nothing they have got the balance right. Well deserved five stars from me. I would give them more if I could.
Booked for two nights, on booking asked if we could have a suite as we were going to use the sitting room as a bedroom for our foster child. On arrival we were delighted to see that we had been given a suite with a drop down bed in. This was warmly welcomed by our young lady. Both rooms were exceptional and we had no problems. Staff were very helpful/friendly with the added benefit of free on site parking and York only 9 miles away.
Why not five stars?
Positives first:
We stayed for four nights.
The hotel, rooms, restaurants and bars were spotlessly clean and public places were disinfected constantly.
Supper was delicious, plentiful and beautifully presented in comfortable and
air-conditioned surroundings.
The staff were friendly, courteous, helpful, efficient and attentive.
The chef catered for coeliac.
Now the negatives:
Breakfast buffet limited.
Certain items were only available on request such as juices, yoghurt, fruit, herb teas.
We were not told about the afternoon tea.
The rooms, even though spotlessly clean, are badly ventilated with just an overhead window.
The view is awful.
Brick walls, windows and a square of grass.
This square could easily be made into a pretty garden with trees and flower beds.
Constant drone from extractor fans.
Hard beds.
We were too tired and over-heated after a hot six hour drive to request another room.
Take your own fan!
Travel zoo deal which was incredible value for 2 nights. Fabulous cream tea on arrival. Upgraded to executive room and was a good size with a huge bed and lovely cotton bedding. Great value for money all round. Bird of Prey centre visit an absolute joy, such an amazing experience. Would definitely recommend.
All staff were friendly and Restaurant staff were super helpful. The rooms were clean and to a very good standard. Would definitely go again! X
This is the third time I have visited Burn Hall (with a few friends) and I was not disappointed. The breaks they offer are excellent value. The hotel is located near the village of Huby, 2 miles away and just off the A19, The hotel is clean, the food is excellent and the facilities are very good. The staff are exceptional in their friendliness and service.
There is a Park and Ride a few miles away with buses every 10 minutes.
I hope to return with my friends again next year for a couple of short breaks. I would highly recommend.
Nice enough hotel, but don’t be fooled, it’s a Best Western. The food is overpriced and pretentious with very little of it. The cream tea is tiny and the scones tasteless. The room is ok but the bathroom is as big as the room. Bed is ok but has a weird lean on it. All in all, don’t get your hopes up, it’s a nice place to stay to visit but don’t eat here. The vegetarian option is dreadful (one dish) and there is nothing for vegans.
Fantastic weekend away. Made to feel very safe with one way route around the hotel. Breakfast was a buffet but served by staff. You had to pre order your evening meals and everything was served promptly and hot.
It's a cheap and cheerful place, but the age of the building cannot be helped. Expect to hear the rooms around you'll probably come across the odd item not functioning. Notably our bathroom tap fixings didn't work correctly (shower mode was fine, but the switcher wouldn't turn on the bath tap) and our towel rail was broken.
That being said, the staff were delightful breakfast plentiful and I slept soundly.
For the price, it's not a bad deal.
It was a Travel zoo experience involving entry into the Bird of Prey sanctuary, which is situated on site and run entirely by volunteers. That was a superb visit. Informative and very hands on. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are any where within reach. We had a cream tea in the hotel, which to my mind should have been clotted cream not squeeze cream from a can... however the scones were delicious. The area in which the hotel is situated is very picturesque but transport is needed to get around. The staff were very nice indeed and dinner choices were varied and cooked to order. Our room was not as expected as it was a disabled one and neither of us are disabled. We had booked at least 6 mths in advance and would have preferred a normal room.
Had a wedding for my daughter here and absolutely loved Danny and team great from start to finish
Hmmmmm what to say? On the one hand staff excellent, on the other not, having been in that position could have been an off day at reception. However no explanation of main things, times of breakfast, lunch, dinner, where the bar was, check out etc. Offers were also on booking not explained properly. Sad to say we had just arrived from another hotel that truly was 5 star service from a 3 star establishment.
On good side breakfast and dinner very good, staff there were excellent.
We have just returned from and very good two night stay at the Burn Hall hotel. Staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome nothing was to much trouble for them. The room was very clean and we had a lovely bathroom with toiletries provided. Both breakfast and dinner on the two days we stayed was very good. We will be returning to this hotel when visiting the area again. Thank you to all the staff and well done for making our stay most enjoyable.
What a lovely place, beautiful setting. Lovely hotel, clean and smart, great staff. Particularly George on reception. All friendly and helpful.
Food Excellent, plenty of it, very good value for money. Drinks were pub prices too.
We're definitely returning . 😊
We had a lovely two day stay on the 7th of Feb.it was lovely clean ,food was good too and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.Thank You .I would recommend it to anyone
Stayed for 2 night Travelzoo offer, but we asked if we could pay for upgrade to an Executive room. None available but we were offered a suite for a very reasonable £20 a night extra. I can't speak for the smaller rooms, but the suite was large, with a big TV in lounge and 2 small settees and 2 armchairs. Smaller TV in bedroom. Great bathroom as all seemed recently upgraded. All very nice. Great breakfast, and very good meal on the evening we stayed in to eat. Friendly and efficient staff. Will go again if in that area.
My partner and I came to stay here as we enjoy walking mini breaks and where better to walk than in Yorkshire. The hotel grounds were lovely as we're the rooms. The staff were friendly and courteous and the breakfast and dinner we're very nice, special shout out to all the catering staff who were always very friendly even though they never seemed to leave. Great location and some fantastic local pubs, I would also recommend going to the falconry center adjoined to the hotel, I believe admission is free to guest so make sure you donate as it's absolutely fantastic. All the best guys
Fantastic weekend away. The food is great and it's well worth booking into the restaurant for your evening meals as they have a large choice plus specials. All the team are welcoming and helpful. From the household team getting us more milk to the receptionists and bar/restaurant team.
Enjoyed our stay, staff friendly and helpful, good variety at breakfast. Room rather compact but very clean, well done to the housekeeping staff. We really enjoyed the bird's of prey center, the man in charge was very knowledgeable about his birds and very entertaining for 2 hours would recommend it's fantastic .Disappointed no walk's in those acres of land at the hotel !!
Staff are welcoming. Rooms need a bit of tlc. Don't expect good TV or Wifif reception owing to it's location amongst the trees but this is not the fault of the Hotel, Food was excellent and service was good,
Very clean. Lovely staff. Breakfast was a great selection. The only thing I would mark it down on was the bed. Very uncomfy and pillows were flat and lifeless made for a restless night. Room itself was perfect. Would I visit again. I would, but would probably take my own pillows.
Staff were welcoming and friendly. Room was clean and tidy, bed was comfortable. Food was good, breakfast was ok. Booking essential for evening meal in the restaurant. Busy hotel - coach trips to York and surrounding area. Nice setting.
The hotel is in a lovely setting. The 2 night stay is good value generally but at this time we didn’t get the best accommodation. Uncomfortable bed and not impressed with pillows and old duvets. I did ask for new pillows but they only doubled up with Two in one pillowcase.
Breakfast is pretty good for a buffet. You can order alternatives, some for extra fee.
Staff are pleasant. Cream tea served by Leonardo was very pleasant. He’s a lovely friendly man. Thank you.
Well worth the trip to see the Birds of Prey which came with the offer. Amazing! The staff are excellent getting all the audience to participate. Wonderful to have a golden eagle sat on my arm
Nice stay
Pleasant staff
Very clean
Room showing its age. Creaking floors and bathroom floor moves under your feet.
Resteraunt a bit overpriced compared to other local venues.
Stayed here for two nights recently, standard rooms are quite small but enough for what we needed. Only real complaint about the room was that our window was broken and wouldnt shut properly so was a bit cold late afternoon but room soon heated up when heating came on later. The buffet breakfast was lovely and well stocked, only thing missing for me was hash browns. We also ate here for dinner which was also lovely but be warned portions are huge so make sure your hungry.
We bought a Groupon voucher to go for Sunday carvery. Food was great but wouldn't want to pay full price. The young lady at the front desk was very rude. Best part of this was the bird centre. Amazing few hours with the kids with very knowable staff. This is a must. 5* for this part.
Great day went for afternoon tea which was really nice, they rang and checked dietary restrictions prior to the day ,then visited the bird of prey sanctuary, well worth a visit the birds are flown and allow you to hold them with the glove, the owls were my favourite
We had afternoon tea and the venue is lovely. The tea was presented very well and went down well with our party. We did not see anyone else in the hotel so it felt a little soulless
A tired hotel in a lovely location. Handy to York (11 miles) so a car is needed. The hotel needs some attention. The self-service breakfast offered dry-looking scrambled eggs and very dry-looking black puddings. I strongly suspected that the red fruits had been lifted from the freezer rather than served fresh. Overall the food was adequate but far from scintillating.
In the room the internet coverage was very poor, and the bed was hard. There was very little room. We did ask for some fresh milk but just received three more small long life cartons.
My partner and I stayed 2 nights from 24th May 19 until 26th May 19.
Our room was extremely clean and comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was spotless.
The food was excellent and great value for money. The staff were lovely, friendly and extremely helpful
Lovely place, rooms are smaller than shown on site, but very cosy & clean. Staff very friendly...food is delicious and well priced.
Enjoyed our stay - staff pleasant & helpful, all hotel covid secure, very happy with quality & quantity of meals. We enjoyed both evening meals. Many thanks to all staff
First off the quality of the evenings meal was exceptional the free tickets to Birds of Prey were well worth the visit. But.... I upgraded to an executive room, only to find it was 2 single beds and 2 single mattresses pushed together with a massive dip in the middle. Not exactly the romantic situation you expect, please don't get me wrong, the Mrs got her birthday present still!!! The buffet breakfast left a lot to be desired, undercooked bacon, overcooked sausages, no hash browns, no tomato to choose from and we weren't even offered the option for fried egg. Overall a pleasant experience made worthwhile by the savings from Travelzoo but if I'd paid full price I would be upset.
Great hotel just outside of York. A good base to visit the coast or Harrogate, Knaresborough Rippon.
Very clean. Bedrooms fine. Food good Yorkshire portions! Nice beer garden.
Very good value for money.
A good hotel on the outskirts of York.
The check in was fast and efficient with the reception staff very welcoming.
We paid for a room upgrade and we were allocated a large and very clean room on the second floor.
We stayed on a b&b basis and the breakfast was very good, a selection of fruit juices, cereals and a full English served buffet style. A pot of tea or coffee is also available.
The staff at this hotel work very hard to make your stay enjoyable, they work very long hours but always greet you with a smile and a cheery hello.
The only thing that we thought could be bettter would be the bar prices, we found them a touch on the high side and wondered if that was the reason this facility didnt seem to be used by the majority of the guests.
Would we stay here again?
Most definitely.
We had a warm welcome and the staff were very friendly and helpful,
Nothing was too much trouble.
The room was spotless. The hotel was beautiful and very well maintained and we look forward to returning.
Staff are very friendly and helpful however hotel is miles from anywhere, breakfast is hectic and crowded.
Food is adequate but not great, some rooms like ours do not have a working TV, some do!!!!
Great hotel, lovely setting, clean environment, pleasant staff, and room service was good value for money too.
I would have awarded 5 stars but:
(1) the disabled lift to the raised eating area was out of order - so we used room service instead; and
(2) our room was noisy as it was close to the the hotel kitchen's extractor fan.
So check before booking if you need disabled facilities and don't want a noisy room!
.
Excellent location for North Yorkshire, the hotel is in lovely grounds. You will need a car if you need or want anything. The reception staff were lovely, room cleaning leaves a lot to be desired and the standard rooms ar like a hostel style. The beds are awful. After three stays in different best Westerns I will not be returning budget hotels offer better comfort and deals
Lovely location. Comfortable accommodation, clean and fresh. Food was lovely and the staff are really pleasant and helpful. Would recommend
Excellent value for money. we had a Travelzoo deal. Cannot fault it. Loved the Bird of Prey centre- spent 2 hours there. This was included in the stay. The hotel is quite isolated which is the only draw back. Staff very good , only concern that they could do with employing more staff as the staff who were in lounge/ restaurant were very busy.
It was clean. The bar was reasonable. The breakfast was fine. My husband and I both thought we had arrived at an elderly care home though. This was because of the look of the building and because of the age of all the other guests. It is a twenty minute drive to York. We enquired about walking into the village of Huby to catch the bus but the reception staff said that it was not recommended to walk along the road because there are no footpaths.
It is right next to the York Birds of Prey Centre which well worth a visit.
Average quality and value for money.
The hotel is quite a long way from York but it is not in a quiet location. Local "boy racers" made a lot of noise and the farm next door does not help with the smell of manure...
The room did not have air conditioning and we felt it (29 degrees during the day of our stay) and the WiFi was non existent.
Breakfast is not worth 20 per person, go out to one of the many breakfast bars in York and you will have a better experience.
All in all not up to scratch for what it costs. Difficult I will be booking again.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. So friendly .
We were a group of 12 for a 60th birthday . Stayed for 3 nights. Gave us a private area for our dinners & breakfast . We decorated the area for the birthday dinner & they were very helpful with everything. We will certainly be back. The deals they offer are such good value.
The food is great. But ,be warned, huge portions. Three courses is a challenge !!
The bird of prey centre, next door, is a must. And the archery &shooting
Centre great fun. A weekend to remember. Thank you .
Couldn't have asked for better.A lovely evening meal on Friday. Two very hail and hearty breakfasts.Very caring and attentive staff who made us feel very safe and covid secure. Beautiful clean room with everything we needed.A lovely get away from it all place sat in lovely very well cared for gardens.I would genuinely recommend Burn Hall.A big thank you to everyone.
A very busy hotel which we found satisfactory. The room and food was good.
The birds of prey tickets were a welcome added bonus and worth a visit. We will return.
Another example of disabled people getting the short straw.
Accessable bathroom, er no. Breakfast average no pastries . Bar prices ok.
Best western need to review
Just come back from a lovely weekend at the hotel. Rooms on the small side but very clean and comfortable. Bird of prey on site excellent worth a visit. Food was outstanding large portions. Beautiful gardens worth a visit
This isn't really a country house hotel though some pictures of it might suggest otherwise. There is an older country house as the main frontage but otherwise most rooms are in extensions which look circa 1960. That said the rooms are comfortable enough but don't expect country views. At present given Covid-19 precautions the staff is doing a fantastic job of trying to keep guests safe and so I can certainly recommend a visit as the hotel's location is ideal for exploring North Yorkshire.
Excellent hotel very reasonable prices ,bird sanctuary well worth a visit, restaurant food was excellent, also breakfast was a great start for the day, well worth a stay.
We found the experience of staying here very pleasant. Staff were very friendly and professional and were able to accommodate us at short notice during very high seasonal demand. The restaurant provided a good range of options and we found the quality of food and service very good.
Great place to stay, staff whre very helpful and chatty. Bird centre next door well worth a vist. Handy for park and ride into York.
Brilliant deal through travel zoo. Hotel was fine, basic but clean and met our requirements. Restaurant really good, portions massive. Nothing
negative to say. Enjoyed the whole experience. Bird of prey experience was superb. Thanks to all the staff at the hotel
Stayed late September. What a wonderful experience. The staff and meals were faultless. All in a Covid compliant way. Beautiful nearby walks. Lovely long walk from Marton. Bird of prey experience is a must. Staffed by incredible volunteers. Can't wait to go back.
Average hotel but no complaints. Rooms were comfortable enough if a bit dated. Not a huge range at breakfast but everything was nice although. Staff were all very polite and helpful so nothing to complain about but equally nothing special.
Lovely hotel, beautiful grounds. All staff very helpful, always smiling and friendly.
Very good value.
Excellent service, friendly and polite.
Afternoon tea could have been presented better. The option of tea /coffee was not presented until stated that we did not drink tea.
The scones are rather small and not warm.
Location is great and the hotel is lovely, the food was lovely. Was abit disappointed with the room as it was abit basic for an 'executive suite' and also we asked if we could have a couple of wine glasses for the room as we had brought a bottle (or two) of wine to celebrate my birthday but we were refused! First hotel I've stayed in where this has happened and found it very bizarre of them not to accommodate! Didn't let this ruin our stay but I would look at other hotels first before booking here again.
Nice hotel and staff helpful and friendly. However they do NOT accommodate vegans in terms of the menu. Even though I gave well over a month's notice, they would not provide anything vegan for a hot breakfast and said there would be nothing vegan for an evening meal either. There was fruit available for breakfast but I had to take my own soya yogurt with me. The fruit was nice, but in January you would like the option of a hot breakfast before a day out siteseeing in York when it's only just over freezing outside.
Afternoon teas here are brilliant value and the staff so smart, professional, friendly and attentive. Lovely surroundings, peaceful location and right next door to the York Bird of Prey centre to make it a full and enjoyable day out.
Staff excellent room was well looked after and clean food was very good really nice place
Stayed here for 2 nights 25th & 26th Nov. I booked a Yorkshire deal and upgraded to a suite. The hotel is very comfortable and clean. I would recommend upgrading to a suite which only cost us £40 for 2 nights. It was well worth the upgrade as we got over double the space of a standard room, queen bed separate lounge 2 tv's large bathroom and views fro 4 Windows. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, breakfast is of good standard, the evening meal was really good. The hotel is around 10 miles from York so you need a car as taxi is expensive, we left the car at a park and ride and the caught the bus into York. I would highly recommend this hotel for a short break.
All lovely staff and lovely food too. Meals were overpriced sometimes for what you had but was lovely even though they forgot the poached egg with the black pudding starter but I was too tired to ask.As part of the stay we had a visit to the bird of prey centre which was next door it was great seeing the birds and the staff were lovely especially headwaters. Anyway back to the hotel I had two moans the shower wasn't very good ( room 201) I was poorly so needed a descent shower quite often it was so weak getting the water out I didn't moan as I was too tired and I tried to explain I didn't want a room clean even with the sign he didn't understand English. Thanks again everyone.
Poor choice of food although quantity was massive. Room too hot and windows only open a few inches. Carpet in room was very dangerous, as rucked and caused a trip hazard.
Breakfast was OK and most of staff were friendly. Bird of Prey centre not open on Tuesday so choose your stay carefully!
Lovely location, not a lot in the surrounding area. Great parking. Evening meal was good and breakfast great - good selection of offerings for gluten free option. Rooms could do with a little updating - but still comfortable
Very relaxing stay and helpful staff. Breakfast was nice, and dinner was excellent. Would definitely stay again. Only around 20-30 minutes drive to York City centre, we used the Park and ride which is not too far away.
I went to a wedding here. The rooms were very expensive (even with wedding party discount), much cheaper to book from a 3rd party site. It looked nice & the staff seemed friendly, but I thought the food was very expensive, but tasted nice, they messed up our seating plan & had me (the maid of honour) & the bride sat on the opposite side of the room to the other wedding guests to eat our meal the night before! They messed up the music playing during the wedding & she ended up walking down the aisle in silence! All they offered as compensation was a free carvery! Considering we live 3 hours drive away, that was ridiculous! They didn't inform us that there had been a problem with the wedding cake, until 10 minutes before we were supposed to go into that room! In my opinion, they should have told us immediately in the morning, so we would have had more time to sort it out! Not hours later, after the ceremony! They messed up the wedding meal seating plan too, but that got rectified swiftly. Despite all previous arrangements, on the day we didn't get the bird of prey experience they said they would do & nobody remembered to bring the bride's dog over from the kennels opposite for photos. Still an enjoyable day, but I wouldn't recommend a wedding there. They're not very organised & on a wedding day, you need all the help you can get, to get it to run smoothly.
Stayed at the hotel as part of my work trip. Was not expecting much as it's a bit far from the city centre. But I was pleasantly surprised, friendly staff always had a smile. Good choice of food. Nice peaceful surroundings.
Nice hotel. Lovely food, and staff. Bird of prey experience next door which is fabulous. About 8 miles to York park and ride which costs us about £1.10 each using our bus pass.
Lovely hotel, in a lovely place. Staff were excellent. It was on the weekend before second lockdown. Hotel was immaculately clean. Food was good. Enjoyed & would go again.
Excellent staff everyone we met was very help ful we were only there two nights and breakfast was superb both mornings. Dinner was excellent the first night but unfortunately my meal was cold .This was quickly rectified
The drinks were very expensive and you are a captive audience £4 for a 330ml bottle of cider is definitely over priced
From check in to check out the staff were friendly & attentive nothing was too much trouble.
The food in the restaurant was absolutely gorgeous, you have a great chef.
There was so much choice at breakfast, plus extras on the menu, cooked to order, perfect poached eggs and lovely porridge.
I would recommend Burn Hall Hotel to anyone and look forward a truthr visit.
Excellent value on the room but as expected the bar is pricey. Staff are polite and well dressed. Think Downton Abbey style. Sad to note that in the conservatory area nobody wants to hoover up all the dead flies. I,d return though.
Stayed for four nights. Rooms are basic, but adequate. The hotel is clean and presentable. Lovely breakfast in the mornings with a resonable selection of ready cooked, and a number of cooked to order items. Bar is higher priced than I woukd have expected, but not overpriced. Bar food is wonderful, but did not eat in the restaurant to be able to comment. Overall, a pleasant stay.
Hotel very busy which may explain why it appeared our room had been changed 3 times by the time we checked in ??? Bed was very uncomfortable ( squeaky and small ) bed cover had a seam come apart which i kept getting my hand caught in. could hear whoever was above us walking around most of the night. breakfast was average although the evening meal we had was really lovely. the waiting staff where very friendly and nothing was too much trouble even when i needed to change our table because of anxiety. i'm not sure we would stay again for a special occasion as i did point out when booking it was for our anniversary.
Had a good chilled out weekend the hotel is 100%clean and the food is good well presented. The staff where great and made sure you was happy with your meal. The rooms are cosy and warm I recommend this hotel to everybody. I will be back definatly
Lovely 3 star hotel away from all the hustle and bustle. Ideal place for a relaxing break away from it all, but close enough for some retail therapy in York or sight seeing. Attentive staff who didn't have to be asked about the extras i.e. the bottle of wine that came with the Travelzoo deal you had booked, but offered a choice of 'white, rose or red?' etc. Faultless food too, many home cooked dishes. We would stay again.
We visited Burn Hall for Sunday Carvery. It is set in a beautiful location, immaculately kept grounds. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the chip and pin services were 'down' that day and we only had a small amount of cash as our Carvery was pre-paid, so we were unable to add extras or a dessert. This was due to a BT fault and the staff were apologetic. The carvery was a good standard, plenty of choice of vegetables, the only negative comment I can give is that the Beef was well done and I prefer it pink, but that is personal choice. Overall a lovely carvery lunch.
Very friendly staff, great service, good food. Location remote. Room fairly basic, bed uncomfortable, heating didn't work but portable one supplied. Hotel felt a bit like an old people's home, but food, value for money and service we could not fault.
Lovely place , have visited the hotel several times . George on reception is a smashing fella. Did notice the whole place was looking a bit tired though. We upgraded ,& got a suite , very nice indeed .will carry on using hotel as we love the staff & location. Great place.
Good sized rooms, clean and modern, breakfast only reasonable, but no complaints about the evening meals, had the fish pie last night which came with a variety of veg and served hot on a warm plate. Good value 2 day break, will definitely return to this hotel
Nice hotel in a lovely location. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Had dinner and breakfast, food was good pub grub at reasonable prices.
Had a great group on deal for afternoon tea here. Was nicely presented and the staff were helpful. Food could have been a bit nicer though!
Lovely, helpful staff. Breakfast and dinner menu limited due to the covid restrictions. Whilst eating breakfast and dinner music was top notch , played good songs which in my opinion makes the meal better and the experience more enjoyable .
Fantastic stay in a lovely hotel with good food and great service will definitely be going back again in the near future
Nice hotel. Some staff a bit rude
Bed was lovely. Be careful on approach as one light was out and you can't see the sign that tells you where to go. Car park confusing nice selection for evening meal. Breakfast was average
Afternoon tea had nice cakes but sandwiches had strange filling ie bacon and also vegetable. Good cuppa too. The beautiful birds from the bird of prey centre were fascinating to watch as they flew free under the watchful eye of the keepers. All the birds were in beautiful condition and looked very well cared for
We were only at the Burn Hall Hotel for 2 nights but it felt like we had been away for a week... So restful everything superb will definitely be going to stay again... The Bird of Prey Centre was brilliant. Educational and a hands on experience that we would recommend.
Room was cold my fault for turning the radiator on. The room was clean the staff very friendly. I would stay again.
Off the beaten track but still handy enough to York and main arterial routes but without the noise and bustle of the city. Peaceful environment with birds and beautiful trees all around. Also complimentary access to York Bird of Prey Centre next door which is really worth a visit! Recommended!
Friendly staff clean rooms and good food. My main reason for going to this hotel is to see the birds of prey and I wasn't dissappoint is was great getting the chance to handle these beautiful creatures and the staff were friendly and very infomative. I would recommend both hotel and the birds of prey. Thank you to everyone for making my stay so pleasurable.
Lovely quiet location that you find with most Best Westerns, very warm welcome from the staff, helped with taxis, Wi-Fi problem, plasters for injured feet - pretty much any question you could throw at them! Bar staff where happy to chat and give menu recommendations. Rooms where standard, but very clean and had all the usual equipment, bed a bit hard for my personal preference but an enjoyable stay all the same
Hotel rooms OK. TV reception poor. Only 2 channels.
Food in restaurant good and substantial. Bar/lounge poor. No seats in bar. And lounge very poorly lit.
Great food and lovely staff. 20 mins drive into York. For a cracking deal for 2 night break. Thanks
We had our wedding at Burn Hall in November 2010 and had an amazing day the staff where brilliant and very helpful, to make sure our day ran smoothly there was lots of pre wedding planning, then with heavy snow on the big day the staff tried their hardest to keep the day to run as close to schedule as possible. They gave us complimentary dinner, bed and breakfast for our first anniversary and they have also given us discount for our 2nd anniversary this year. The food is fantastic and rooms are cosy, they also make very nice cocktails. It has a lovely backdrop for wedding photographs outside and great set up inside for wedding breakfast, reception and ceremony.
Room was small and rather regrettably fragrant (mostly Dettol, we think), but otherwise okay. En suite was large for the size of the room but very tidy. Lots of loose creaky boards in the floor around the bed. Fine for one night when you're not the one actually paying.
Nice, clean and good VFM. Location is quiet yet within easy reach of York centre 20 mins to the South or Thirsk about 25 mins North by car. Fitness centre is well kitted out. Food was very nice. Breakfast was self serve buffet with hot and cold options. Not too sure what to say about the Bird of Prey centre, it appears quite run down.
Nice hotel good accommodation good buffet breakfast and evening meals. Friendly and helpful staff. Added bonus of the York bird of prey centre in the hotel grounds. We'll worth a visit. Not far from York.
Very nice atmosphere always made welcome food you get plenty on your plate and only a few miles from York
A few things did not work in the bathroom (extractor fan, heated towel rail and bath taps (shower worked fine though)). The staff were extremely helpful and the breakfast was delicious. All hotel areas were clean.
This hotel is in a lovely location, not to far from York and some lovely little villages near by.
The hotel is lovely and the staff are all very welcoming. I felt relaxed and enjoyed everything about my two night stay.
Second stay for two nights. Just booked another spring short break. Excellent value leisure breaks. Just don't expect super luxury for the price. Rooms are basic but plenty adequate. Staff do a great job. They are very polite, friendly and helpful. Service with a smile. The hotel allows for easy park and ride access to York. Alternatively, there are some easy local walks (1.5- 6 miles from Huby, approx. 1 mile away - just Google country walks from Huby). If you want a change from the hotel restaurant, the Mended Drum Inn in Huby is recommended for both food and ale.
. Quite a large well run hotel, reasonably priced food and a good deal on the rooms we booked. The reception, bar staff, restaurant staff etc were all helpful and polite. Room clean and a good size.
Great staff, very clean and fab food. Could do with better pillows for the beds, but a lovely relaxing stay.
Had lovely afternoon tea here. Pre booked with what we wanted. Uoh also need to book a time a slot .Nice surroundings. Staff was helpful. Tea; sandwiches and cakes were nicely presented and very enjoyable. Free wifi. Free parking. Just round corner 1 mins walk is birds of prey.if you time it right you can watch the shows. Lovely afternoon out.
A great stay. Staff could not have been better. The whole stay was good and the food was excellent. The bedroom was small but perfectly formed with everything in you needed.
I love this hotel, the food is outstanding. My only complaint last time ws the pillows were flat but they have dealt with that and this time they appeared to be new. Well done Burns Hall, excellent stay in every respect.
Beds are spacious and comfortable, food is overpriced as there are no alternatives nearby unless you drive. Room/suite requires maintenance which has been reported. Lovely manicured gardens, and common rooms.
Stayed during the recent bad weather so phoned ahead to check the current weather state. The staff were really helpful and informative. Have stayed many times, great parking and nice rooms.
Had a good stay at the Burn Hall. The rooms were cosie and the bathroom was very nice. The only down point was the lack of parking, all of the parking spaces at the front of the hotel were always taken up by wedding guests. So parking at the back of the hotel was the only option. I spoke to a member of staff to enquire about the parking situation and got told that "they will be staying here just like you and you will have to park in the other car park." It was in a beautiful location with really nice scenery and beautiful grounds. My overall stay here was excellent.
Rooms clean bed very hard. Breakfast poor I don't eat bread so no carbs for me . No hashbrown not offered any cereal or fruit asked given green banana. Tea give in a broken teapot staff not happy when I asked them to change the tea.
Bit out of the way, 9 ish mile journey into York and then back again. Not next to a shop or anything so means a bit of a treck for basic items. Hotel itself was okay. Rooms are basic. Bed was a little uncomfortable. On site meals, drinks etc are very pricey too. Staff appeared friendly although we didn't approach them a great deal
Very nice ambience, friendly staff. Not keen on the set times for dinner. Bit isolated but OK if you have a car. Rooms were lovely & nice breakfasts.
Stayed here from Fri- Sun during Sept 2020. Health & safety Covid-19 measures in place and respected. Lovely staff, nice location. Limited breakfast due to C-19. Need a car to get around.
my wife and I stayed here fri 3rd Jan till sun 5th Jan2020. very clean staff are friendly rooms are basic beds could do with a upgrade. food was plentiful and very well priced drinks a bit expensive but all in all really nice hotel will we be back hell yes
Rooms are compact but well conceived and all facilities in good order. Dinner choice is good, but breakfast from the servery has like warm baked beans and only scrambled egg available.
Stayed for 2 nights and was quite disappointed with the service. From breakfast in the morning to drinks in the bar in the evening, you had to wait an age to get served. We had a twin room and the beds were tiny, meaning that you took your life in your hands when you turned over
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Burn Hall Hotel near York. Including the nearby York Bird of Prey Bird centre. The hotel room was VERY comfortable, the food was fabulous and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to everyone who comes here ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Really nice Hotel, the rooms were clean and tidy and the food was all very good quality. The hotel is set away from main roads and as the added bonus of a bird of prey centre behind it which is free for guests of the hotel.
Very nice , comfortable Venue in York are.
Room , food & staff all well above average for the price we got for the 3 nights.
Without doubt would recommend this hotel & will in future look for a Best Western in any area we may visit
An excellent hotel and good value for money. Very attentive staff who made you feel at home. Highly recommended, and that includes the 'Yorkshire breakfast'!
Clean and welcoming hotel with friendly, helpful staff. The restaurant food was amazing quality and value for money. We will definitely be staying there again.
Comfortable room. Not as well equipped as some Best Western hotels we have used. Restaurant staff were busy but attentive and the food was reasonable and plentiful with a wide choice but it was like eating on a busy pavement and was cold and draughty.
Two day break for York Races. Hotel ticks all the boxes without being too special, well run, well maintained, helpful & friendly staff. Better rooms available with upgrade.
Left after Sunday cavery - best cavery we had a long time! Thanks Chef and team!!
We had afternoon tea there on a groupon. Was quite small but the staff were very nice. Afterwards we went into the bird of prey centre which was brilliant. Spent a good couple of hours there watching the show and held a fee birds including a golden Eagle. Would definitely recommend a visit to there. Also was cheaper to get groupon including afternoon tea than just entry so worth checking that site.
Lovely hotel...all the staff were pleasant and one in particular, Nichola, met us when we arrived, assisted us with our afternoon tea and generally looked after us very well. She was there again for our breakfast the following morning and again was really helpful and made our stay very relaxing and enjoyable. We would like her to be recognised for her very pleasant manner and excellent work. Thank you Nichola we will try to get back later in the year. Terry & Jan Burditt
Great place to stay for visiting family close by. Mattress could have been a little better. Grounds are well looked after and there are a fair few things to do around the hotel. Staff friendly and service for breakfast food and lots of choices.
Loved this place..lovely venue..food excellent staff so helpful & friendly..had fab 2 Nights.. celebrated our 2nd Year Anniversary..can not wait to re book again..highly recommend to anyone
Have stayed at many Great Western hotel due to them being great hotels but Burn Hall hotel in York was Excellent value for money, the staff were very mindful of their quest needs as we took my mum with us who has a disability, nothing was to much trouble for staff to accommodate her needs. Hospitality was great, very friendly x x Going back again in February 2019. Thanks for everyone's effort to make our stay enjoyable x x
Set in lovely grounds with a great outside space to enjoy a drink or dinner next to an open fire!! The Food was of a very high standard, would highly recommend and return again...
Food delicious, staff friendly, room comfortable. If only they can get the heating right. Was cold on occassions during the evening so not the best place to be in a chilly April.
Absolutely fantastic venue for our joint stag and hen weekend big thank you to all the staff
All the staff was very friendly and helpful rooms were very clean and the food was excellent
Had a great birthday weekend. The breakfast and evening meal was delicious. Well organised esp during meal times. Excellent value for money.
Clean and pleasant food very nice staff very accommodating
Nice traditional hotel, good food, staff are exceptional, only 4 stars because wi-fi is very poor to none existent. Nit picking i know but this has been a problem for some time.
Food excellent, staff excellent.only one man running the bar, could do with some help to avoid long waits.also room 235 had a big crack in the sink.
Paid for afternoon cream tea, which was very nice, but be warned if you don't drink tea or coffee you have pay extra for any other drink you want which isn't freshly made but out of a vending machine.
Lovely hotel, friendly staff, good value for money, food very good, only complaint found coffee abit cold and bar staff over worked and couldn't take orders quickly
Great staff, particularly the maitre d at dinner, excellent dinner menu and food, very helpful reception staff. Very uncomfortable mattress, pillows and headboard meant disturbed nights and inability to sit up in bed
Lovely gardens - fantastic carvery just like home made - well worth a visit. The bird of prey centre was excellent, we all had a lovely afternoon.
Had a lovely stay...food of good quality and plenty of it...cream tea was good
Lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. Not enough seating in reception area but what is there is very comfy and cosy. Large restaurant and good menu
Large room (with upgrade as a card holder) Plenty of parking spaces. Fairly quite location. Breakfast offered a modest choice of dishes. Evening meal also offered a fair choice of dishes
Pleasant hotel, staff good the breakfast was very basic
Great location staff helpful and friendly rooms very clean and well equipped. The Bird of prey center next door is well worth a visit. Will definitely stay again.
Comfortable hotel about 10 miles outside York. Clean, tidy, great staff and fabulous breakfast.
Brilliant best yet would go again
This hotel is in a beautiful part of Yorkshire, within easy reach of the city of York, with lovely surrounding garden.s , very helpful and friendly staff , nice quiet rooms very nice meals and welcoming lounge bar, loved my visit highly recommend .
A fine hotel set in lovely grounds , and only about 10miles North of York .clean room with I bed ( no fridge or microwave). Hotel has no pool. Good food , great service from polite and friendly staff.
Not that covid friendly all cutlery etc on tables before you are seated and tables are not 2mtre apart. Didn't manage to fix our toilet in 3 days had to use bucket to flush for 3 nights
Clean rooms. pillows not very comfortable. Breakfast ok. Free tickets into the birds of prey centre next door which was excellent. Great reception staff.
Quiet location tucked away in the countryside. Comfortable rooms and facilities. Excellent food, good prices and huge portions! Friendly and helpful staff.
Bit dull, did not like the pop music whilst eating my evening meal. If I want dance music it's when I go dancing.
Sunday lunch a disappointment. Cross between well appointed staff canteen and motorway service area self-service cafeteria. Dessert cheesecake had strips of plastic embedded between biscuit base and the topping.
Nice.clean.wonderful tasty food.helpful staff. But upgrade your matresses and pillows. Hard beds. Other than that.we will be back. Thankyou.
Excellent food, very comfortable rooms. My only problem is the shower head height. It's like nobody is over 5ft 5! Unfortunately I am. Very much so.
Excellent hotel, very helpful, friendly and pleasant staff. Rooms very comfortable, food plentiful and well made. Will be returning.
Grounds and building were great. Quite far from York but knew that when booked. Staff seemed a little funny as we were a stag group and felt like we were being judged unfairly but can also understand why.
A very nice country manor type of hotel in an excellent location for many of the attractions around York city and the area of Yorkshire.
Friendly staff and nice decor gave a pleasant nights stay.
Just stayed for 3 nights and we couldn't fault it clean and tidy great staff girls on the reception always had a smile and was very pleasant in fact all the staff where very pleasant good food my only fault is the price of the small bottles of mixers at the bar £1.80 for a tiny bottle
Nice hotel clean and friendly. Staff are lovely and restaurant is good. Bit rough round the edges and a good 20 drive to York. But worth staying
Really lovely afternoon tea on the terrace. The waiter couldn't do enough for us. Would highly recommend.
Lovely Hotel, staff very friendly, breakfast smashing, good location for sight seeing, would go back if in area again, is next door to bird sanctuary, didn't have a meal there but looked very nice
Small double room but very clean and everything we needed. The bathroom was surprisingly large !!! Lovely cream tea. Staff were very friendly
Spotless which is obviously important at the mo.2 night stay, food great ,Would suggest maybe slight change of menu (few interchangeable specials) rather than just same .Other than that staff great, helpful and friendly.
remote location bus stops a mile away. not ideal to walk on road no pavement to get bus. hotel very nice. large dining/bar area modern room
Lovely hotel in a nice quiet setting with extensive gardens. Ideal position for visiting York & Yorkshire. Very good value for money
Great location, efficient, friendly staff and spotlessly clean. Good sized meals and tasty breakfast. Bit mean with the tea/coffee and biscuits on the hospitality tray.
It's a bit far out from York town, so we had to drive in which means no drinking! However at least you know your not going to be woke up by drunks!! Close by was a kennel so u could actually take your dogs and put them into the kennel next door while you go out which is handy.
Great location and staff. Restaurant serve very good food. Rooms a bit dated although clean and functional.
Staff were friendly. Food was excellent. Enjoyed our stay.
We had a really good time at Burn Hall, friendly staff, clean room, brilliant food . Very enjoyable.
Nice place a bit basic but ok the rooms. Prices at the bar not cheap. Breakfast was fine. Staff pleasant.
We love this hotel it's excellent value for money well situated as a base for exploring Yorkshire, the food is excellent and reasonably priced and the staff are all so friendly and helpful.
Small double room, very clean, large bathroom. Lovely staff. Enjoyed afternoon cream tea. Breakfast was really nice
Good rooms
Food in the restaurant was lovely
Nice hotel but had a few gripes. Not the friendliest of staff. Rude reply from them on my first review on a different site, not pleased so will not return.
All staff excellent, informative and helpful. Could not fault the hotel.
The food!!! Absolutely amazing tasty, fresh and authentic food.
Excellent service from all staff members.
Comfy beds and comfy room
Great place for a weekend away. Room was clean but could of done with more pillows. Staff were very helpful
Friendly staff we were on 2/3 floor very quiet , if you get a deal which includes bird of prey centre don't miss it great experience and a laugh
Amazing stay! Helpful friendly staff, good food, great breakfast and comfortable rooms. We will definitely be returning
Lovely hotel, not far from city centre, friendly staff, big portions at dinner, room a little cold but would stay there again...
Good price, nice room and friendly staff. Provided us with somewhere to stay overnight whilst visiting the area, so did not use any of the facilities, only a place to sleep.
Best Western Burn Hall Hotel, we have stayed here on three times now. It's a lovely hotel, with good food and good service. Close to York City and Mccarthy Glen outlet centre.
Had a reasonable stay at this hotel, however, as a previous guest at a similar time of year between Christmas and New Year, we felt that the standards of our previous visit had not been maintained.
Really exceptional customer service. Staff were amazing with our elderly relative and 1year old. Couldn't ask for more and expected less at the price.
Stayed here regularly and never been disappointed. Staff very friendly and efficient. A great base for those that want to explore and enjoy local histories.
Great staff great service and great food. Wish this pub was local to me.
And I might just add it was the best and biggest lamb kebab I ever had..
Staff courteous. Room spotlessly clean and checked daily. Tv not operational however.
Lovely setting. Friendly staff and service. Restaurant serves good food especially breakfast. Will definitely stay again.
Great atmosphere. Awesome food, I recommend the orange & carrot soup. Comfortable room. Lovely grounds to walk round too
Large room, quiet venue, lots of great quality complimentary items. The staff were very polite and all mannered, never had a bad experience at a Best Western yet!
Comfortable hotel away from the hustle and bustle. Not quite up to speed yet after Covid restrictions but Staff eager to please.
Really nice staff, very clean, just found the hotel was really cold, not just in our room but every where, maybe its because its been closed with the lock down.
Nice hotel. My only issue, silly as may be, rubbish cheap doughy bread for morning breakfast. I wish I had a choice as you do on the continent.
Staff very friendly and dealt with any issues immediately so v.happy to return and will do.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food at a reasonable price and clean comfortable rooms also at a good price.
We go once or twice a year for 2day which is a good price on Groupon Travelzoo park and ride close by good local pubs close by rooms can be a bit tired but you can upgrade
We use this hotel when visiting York. Although well out of the city it wins our support through staff excellence, some ground floor accessible rooms, and good food.
Very nice hotel in nice surroundings. Menu was not the best for evening meal everything with chips ,Would be nice to have a choice potatoes etc .
Quiet, comfortable room and friendly, attentive staff. Well located for York and rural North Yorkshire - you will struggle to find better value for money in the area!
We have visited this hotel previously and again we had a good time although the hotel was very quiet as it was a few days prior to Christmas.
No complaints will visit again
Good food. Excellent breakfast. Corridors a bit of a maze. Large group (40+) stayed 3 nights - excellent service.
Rrally enjoyed my stay. Big bath, room comfortable. It was perfect though reception staff could've been friendly
Place is okay but over priced for that it was the bed was very uncomfortable. Bar was lovely and the bar staff were very nice too.
Friendly staff service was excellent clean through out
Disappointing. Definitely not like pictures. Dull room. Small window high in wall. Little light. Looked out on to a flat dirty roif.
