Booked a family room for a week's stay as a treat. I'd have to say we were mostly happy although I think it it didn't quite live up to expectations.
I was concerned about booking a family room that had a sofa bed for my 13 year old daughter, however on arrival we found the room would probably have been called a suite anywhere else. It was broken down into several sub rooms, the first was the sitting area, which had the sofa bed made up and there was a large TV for my daughter to enjoy, there was then a corridor with two doors for privacy leading to the main bedroom with the bathroom sitting in between the two rooms. The room overall was good, it was clean but starting to look tired and would benefit from a deep clean (carpets, bathroom etc), and some touch up on the paint.
The biggest disappointment was the breakfast... We paid for B&B and it wasn't worth it. You have to book a time slot which clearly wasn't working as they we overwhelmed most mornings. The buffet continental option was adequate, but if you wanted hot food it took ages just to get an order in (family had finished their breakfast by the time I had flagged down a member of staff to take my order), when the hot food did come it was reasonably good, but I have to say I've had better for cheaper. I would recommend skipping breakfast and head into town to the multitude of independent cafes within a stone's throw to get a better breakfast, quicker and cheaper.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, but next time I will save some money and stay at one of the more bog standard hotels.

A great, modern hotel in the centre of York...the perfect walking distance to all the main attractions. Very stylish and clean, the only criticism is the temperature in the rooms...they were too warm. Other than that, a great stay.

Lovely modern and quirky boutique hotel well situated for all York's attractions and amenities. We had a club room which was nice. The room had everything you could need with tea, coffee, water, biscuits, hairdryer, iron and fridge. Shower excellent with overhead or wall option. Massive flat screen tv with sky package that includes all sports. Air conditioning could also be controlled. Breakfast was excellent quality and the bar well stocked.

Room was fantastic, spacious and super clean. We felt comfortable and relaxed.
Spa was only visited by me but I had absolutely amazing massage by Sophie- thank you! My back is still feeling good thanks to you! And thank you for marking our anniversary with a glass of prosecco and two cute cakes!

Superb boutique hotel in an enviable central York location. Loved everything about it. Low check-in staff levels at a busy time lost it a star but generally the staff bent over backwards to accommodate. Breakfast was incredible, decor and rooms were luxurious. More staff needed for check-in at predictably busy times.

The staff could do not enough to ensure a pleasant stay, from the warm welcome at check in, service with breakfast and dinner, to general interactions and passing comments in the hallways. Everyone was friendly and willing to go the extra mile to deliver the best service.
Coupled with clean, modern, comfortable rooms well appointed with kettle, iron, TV, lovely bed, air conditioning and more, I wish every hotel delivered this standard.

Visiting York for the weekend and we chose Malmaison as I had stayed at the Leeds site and loved it. Could not have been happier with the room or the location. Situated 5 mins from the train station, it was perfect! The lobby was stunning and the staff were extremely helpful. There is even a very cool touch screen vending maching for any items you may have forgotten to bring, which I thought was a great addition. We loved the spacious club room which had the biggest bathroom I have seen in a hotel and a sleeping area separated from the main living area by a partition. It was perfect for what we needed and we slept amazingly well with a cool breeze on one of the hottest days ever. We opted for the inclusive 3 course meal and it was just stunning. One of the best meals I have had at a hotel. The service at both dinner and breakfast was fabulous and I wish I had taken the persons name as she was amazing. If we visit York again, we will definitely be staying at the Malmaison. Drinks in the bar were expensive but there are so many bars on the doorstep you can pick and chose where you go for the evening. Highly recommend.

One of the best sleeps I've ever had! Both me and my partner had to ask what type of mattress they use as we are certainly buying one!! Location was brilliant, close enough to walk comfortably but far enough away from the chaos (we went at Christmas time). Definitely would stay again
J. B.
Me and my partner stayed here for our anniversary and the staff went the extra mile to ensure it was a special day. The rooms were clean, fresh, and modern; the staff quickly went above and beyond the call of duty to respond to an issue with our room and we are grateful for their impeccable customer service. We would definitely come back here and would recommend it to others.

The decor is quirky and modern. Like a new york loft style room. Love the touch with the hidden TV. The lights that turn on when you walk past and in the wardrobe. We had an incident in the room which was rectified straight away and sorted with out any fuss and exceeded put expectations. Will go again

Perfectly located for seeing all of York's attractions. Room (624) was very comfortable and a partial Minster view. Had a few minor issues with the shower but maintenance arrived within 10 minutes and it was sorted. Couple of niggles with the interior design. The mirrors in the bathroom - No good for make up or shaving. Space age make up mirror on the dressing table is set too low (could only see my chesticles and not my face 😜) and the lighting where shaving mirror is, is not adequate to shave. Please consider replacing these mirrors . That said, the breakfasts were exceptional and Sam in the bar was very attentive and made great cocktails. The star of the show is Sora...the rooftop bar. Wonderful!! Car parking was great in the basement! Altogether a great place to stay..

Great, lovely hotel. Helpful staff. Nice food and drinks, enjoyed the bar on the roof. Access is and parking a bit of an issue so loses a star for that.
G. S.
Reception & cleaning staff lovely. The sky bar staff were too busy chatting to serve us, had to get their attention in the end. One girl with glasses was lovely the rest just didn't seem to care much & that was on a Sunday... But thank you for the nice stay..... 18 pounds each for breakfast for small portions. Rip off abit get out and spend it on the small shops in town instead.
N. O.
Really lovely, stylish and comfortable hotel. Perfect for getting to and from the train station. Also ideal for sightseeing. Would definitely book to stay again. The food was also great.
L. A.
Can't fault this hotel in anyway but I found the rooms very claustrophobic as rather small with very narrow corridors. I appreciate this is the old building design so just a personal opinion. Staff very pleasant.

This hotel is gorgeous, a perfect fusion of classic and contemporary. The rooms has everything you need and more and plenty of facilities. The bar and restaurant is top notch.
Whilst checking in I had a bit of a mix up with my booking. Luckily fran was super helpful and accommodating and found me a room. She was very helpful and calming in quite a stressful situation. Lovely smile and made me feel very welcome.
N. A.
Dined at Chez Mal Brasserie for lunch. Festive menu, had the Turkey. Really nice, unique presentation and loads of seasonal veggies. Service was quick and the restaurant was quiet but had a calm and inviting atmosphere. Been to York so many times and never really clocked this as it’s on the ground floor of this fairly new hotel. NCP car park one block over was best place to park at £2.95 per hour.
I. W.
Your Wonderful staff made us so welcome and took great care of us. Our dog friendly Family room was amazing with everything a family needs: Space, privacy, gadgets and luxury.
Thank you Malmaison.
K. R.
Excellent location close to the train station and the city centre. Nicely decorated comfortable room, maybe a bit dark in places. Loved that the TV was hidden behind a sliding door.
J. C.
Loving my staff at the Mal York. Disappointing that the spa is closed for maintenance this wk but I can just spend more time drinking coconut espresso martinis on the roof terrace which has such a great atmosphere and view. Love it!
W. L.
The rooms LOOK nice but functionally are bad. There should be a mirror over the bathroom sink other than the little swing-out mirror you have to sit down to. Then the lighting is horrible. I had to use some guesswork while shaving. The lighting was the worst I have experienced in any hotel/motel, expensive/cheap, anywhere, at any time in my 66 year life.
J. H.
Amazing staff on the roof top bar. We called in for cocktails & the staff was amazing, very friendly girls, very efficient and service was very quick, we wasn’t left waiting at all!
It was a pleasure to meet the girls. We will be back.
B. V.
Hosted an event here. They really looked after us. Our team loved it.... always visit the sky bar for drinks afterwards. Great views on the York Minster from the roof tops.
G. W.
Possibly the most disappointing Malmaison stay I've had. Staff were great but the room was silly/strange layout and very expensive (c. £600 for two nights +parking) for what we got .. not even a bottle of water in the fridge?!? Not a patch on other Mals I'm afraid.
J. F.
Over priced and overrated.
Room noisy at night. Couldn't sit on the roof terrace because it was full.. many non-residents.
Tried having a meal one evening. Ordered a steak with no sauce. I was told that all their steaks are marinated in a garlic marinade. Garlic with steak?!!! Had to walk back into the city to get a propper steak.
Bed linnen not ironed and had hard creases in the sheet ( which seemed to be the wrong size for the bed.
Tried the bar only to find the beer was a rediculous price. Another trip back into the city.
Last mornings breakfast we arrived well before the last serving but staff started clearing our table before we were finished eating. Went to the self service beverages station for a coffee only to find the cups had been removed. Ever got the impression you're no welcome? We certainly did.
I feel as though I've been mugged given the price we paid.
V. O.
Nice hotel. Rooms needed a bit more attention to detail on cleaning though. Thick dust on mirror frame and bits around bathroom floor. Wouldn't was on 4 in a bed tv show!!
Lovely comfy bed though and clean linen
Some dining room staff pleasant but not wanting to go the extra mile for supplies
Excellent location...5 min walk into shops bars restaurant area
5-10 minute walk from train station
Small amount of pre bookable parking spaces but NCP 5 min away with 40% discount with voucher from hotel
E. H.
This is a lovely hotel in the heart of the city, close to the railway station and handy for all local attractions. I can recommend the deluxe room, ours was spotlessly clean, situated on the sixth floor overlooking the city walls. It consisted of a large and extremely comfortable bedroom, a spacious separate sitting area and a luxurious and roomy bathroom with an excellent rain shower, bath and complimentary toiletries. The Sora bar on the top floor is a pleasant area to enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif and offers a panoramic view over the city and surrounding countryside. We enjoyed a very good breakfast in the main dining room with plenty of choice on offer. All the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming, especially Abdullah, Katherine and Zeta in the dining room and Lilley on reception.
C. H.
Had a lovely stay recently. Fantastic location, the most comfortable bed I've slept in in a hotel and lovely atmosphere. Would definitely want to stay again.

Such a beautiful hotel with high standard's, staff are very nice and a big shout out to the manager for handling a difficult situation during the heatwave in July, air conditioning struggling with the immense heat we had but it was resolved very quickly and could not apologise more.
It's high end , you get what you pay for, luxury rooms with exceptional decor King size bed that was like sleeping on a cloud , all the usual facilities you would expect from such a place,, night gowns , slippers, towels, hair dryer, iron and board , wardrobes,, monsoon showers, room service, small bites like chicken curry, cheese on toast delivered to your room upto 4am in the morning , there's a restaurant on the roof which I did not try but the views of York are spectacular up there, very nice restaurant downstairs.
All in all the malmaison is a outstanding hotel and I would love stay with them again
Me and the Mrs spent 3 night here in July 2022
J. K.
Only visited the sky bar but view over Lendal Bridge and up to Minster is wonderful and well worth the £12 cocktail. Properly made probably the best cocktail in the world!😀
T. D.
From the warm and friendly welcome, the outstanding room quality and the most attentive service we've ever experienced, our stay at Malmaison York was the easiest 5* I've given on this app. Highly recommended for the best stay in York in the best location.
S. M.
While we ultimately didn't end up staying the night we'd originally booked due to a mixup with spa availability, the front desk staff were amazing and very understanding, they worked with us to find a solution and our night-away was saved. Many thanks!
O. L.
Upscale hotel with nice decor of the rooms. Comfy beds and nice quality bedding will ensure a good night's sleep. Starbucks in the lobby as well as bar/restaurant on the premises. Several conference rooms for meetings also. Please note there are only 7 parking spots at the hotel carpark, however 50m from hotel you'll find the NCP carpark (Tanner Row) where you can have a 20% discount if paying at hotel.
M. N.
Superb Christmas 2022. Excellent service throughout the hotel though must point out Kathryn in Chez Mal, a young lady with a very bright future. Keep it going guys.
B.
Nice hotel but we paid for an upgrade to a Club Room with the promise of a "View of the Minister" unfortunately, it is not possible to see the Minster from the 2nd floor. We might stay again at some point in the future but I won't be falling for that trick again.
m. d.
Loved the style of this hotel conversion and the whole of the interiors wonderful staff excellent freshly cooked breakfast smart bar even had my favourite book on concrete brutalist building in the room!
E. H.
Didn't stay over, only went here to go to the sky bar, but my goodness. The entrance in this hotel is insane. Can only imagine the rooms are just as beautiful!
C. M.
Excellent service, Sarah checked us in and out, remembered our room number was exceptionally friendly and thoughtful with every effort to make it a great stay. An asset to the hotel
A. B.
Nice views and good food. Staff were very attentive and informative. Overall an enjoyable afternoon.
K. A.
The rooms are strange and poorly designed. The breakfast was nice but took an age even though it wasn't busy. The location is good though.
J. C.
The standard room is very stylish with a very large walk in rain styled shower and a very generous sized super king bed. The breakfast was okay but the poached eggs were watery and the scrambled eggs were bland, probably wouldn't pay the £18 if it was included in the room rate. We loved staying the night here and would come again due to the ideal location near the train station.
J. W.
Beautiful rooms, great views. Reception staff were great but who ever does the rotas need training. Far too busy with not enough staff... with such a high price tag I expected a little more service. Clean, tidy, bed was AMAZING so comfy. Breakfast was beautiful fresh and plentiful. Highly recommended.
C. M.
Great hotel with lovely friendly staff. The whole place is nice and modern and clean, the rooms were spacious and comfortable, breakfast was nice. The bar/restaurant on the top floor is great and we had super attentive service, thank you. Special mention to Sophie in the spa for a brilliant treatment, highly recommended!! I will definitely stay here again.
L. S.
Great experience from start to finish, all the staff were so friendly and helpful! The room was gorgeous! The food was amazing and the cocktails were incredible! Ot was a birthday treat so worth the higher cost of staying here over a budget hotel. This is the second Malmaison we've stayed in and it certainly won't be the last!
P. M. (.
Great hotel. Loved it. Lovely views from the rooftop bar. Room was very modern, clean and tidy, only complaints were our air-con' didn't work so it did get a little warm and stuffy and parking was close by in an NCP, so a little expensive considering the price of the room although we did get a slight discount. Apart from that everything was great.
G. S.
Rather dull outside but swish inside. Excellent location. As others have mentioned, rooms a bit dark and little privacy in open-plan bathroom but otherwise lovely and very large for a city centre. One thing I couldn't cope with - windows don't open AT ALL. Air con is fantastic but I felt claustrophobic.
S. M.
Stayed here with our family for a few nights. The room albeit spacious was dusty, and we found paper wrappers under the bed. The interiors of the rooms are very modern, but.. There's a fine line between tasteful and tacky - lots of cheap materials used in the rooms Inc fake plastic plants etc. The most disappointing aspect for me however was the breakfast... Hard, crusty croissants and pastries, cheap orange juices (not even freshly squeezed orange!!) and a very limited breakfast selection..take a leaf from the Grand Hotel next door.. ( where are your cheeses? Hams? Various fruits etc) this needs an upgrade.. And, your hot English breakfast was bland at best. Aside from this a comfy bed and good location.
S. S.
Had a table booked months in advance as it gets fully booked, however was quiet today. Had choice of outside or in. We chose outside, before the weather turned. I'd not had chance to look at the drinks menu we were asked what we would like to drink and if were eating. Complimentary water was brought as soon as we sat down.
We were also asked if we wanted food, after our wine came, we said we will just have a look. Asked again by another staff if we wanted food. As the weather turned we moved under the cover outside still, this wasn't a problem due to plenty of space, although asked a further twice if we wanted food!
No sooner had my husband poured the last of the wine; glasses full, waitress pounced and cleared the bottle and asked if we wanted more drinks. Still with a full glass we said no thank you.
We got the bill and a discretionary service charge was added.
We asked about it and said we do not want to pay it. This was removed no problem. Had we have eaten we may have paid it, but we also felt constantly pestered, almost like the staff were on commission to get orders. So this was the reason also not wanting to pay it.
Bar and toilets were clean and tidy. Only problem in loos were hand driers were way to high. They just blew water up your sleeves as you have to hold your hands upto them, so left with soaked cuffs.
C. G.
The staff are amazing here, all so friendly and accommodating especially when I was asking for vegan options they were all happy to help. Rooms are lovely, the comfiest beds! Amazing food too. We will always use Malmaison now ❤️
C.
We love love love this hotel, 1st time staying at a malmaison and was perfect, the staff were all super friendly and the restaurant was wonderful, we was on our honeymoon and it was wonderful, we used the roof top bar and the cocktails were lovely. We stayed in one of the suits and it was perfect, we loved our stay so much we have booked to stay in the reading one later in the year
H. C.
Went to the restaurant for dinner and then the sky bar for a drink. Fantastic service, especially in the restaurant. Food was good and the sky bar was a great experience. Overall, a wonderful evening.
H. H.
The three stars are for an excellent room and a nice sky bar. The deduction is for a terrible experience in the rooftop Japanese restaurant. Overpriced, dry sushi clearly hours old with a creepy smelling tuna sashimi. Impossible to get table service without running after the staff. Enjoy the hotel. Avoid a mediocre (at best) Japanese restaurant
I. S.
Disappointed in this hotel paid over 300 for two nights and I expected a lot more.
Location is very good very central so thumbs up
Staff very friendly and the bar area was nice
The downfall the room was very dusty and very dark poor lighting. Infact the lighting was soo bad in the room had to use my camera phone light! Felt like we were staying in a dungeon and they thought we were nocturnal. When you open the black wardrobe the led light is soo strong you can't see what is on the top shelf. Also for the price the spa was closed . Overall I am sorry but a very disappointing stay
B. D.
Thank you to Malmaison in York for a lovely overnight stay ,
In our beautiful room with complimentary items . Beautiful hot bath amazing bed and a lovely breakfast and a lovely cup of hot breakfast tea , amazing service and everything and more , thank you to the manager Scott and is lovely very pleasant team members five star Barbara & Colin
S. m.
Great room, good view very clean, staff very polite and happy to help. Could do with a proper chair in the bedroom not a bench with a cushion strapped to the wall, was not very comfortable.
P. D.
Came here to enjoy a drink of the roof top bar. Recommend you book in advance but they do have the occasional walk in spot.
S. L.
Lack of drawers & hanging room. Noisy plumbing , & room too warm & set at a temperature you couldnt change . Staff lovely , breakfast excellent.
I. T.
We were staying at Burn Hall Hotel and visited Malmaison (7 the floor) for a drink and to sample the wonderful views of York. The staff that attended to us were very courteous and helpful
I. P.
We went on Saturday evening for a meal the food was nice drinks expensive but may be I am out of touch but the service I think wasent up to much in the brassiere as when you are paying that sort of money for steak and chips you expect really good and exceptional service but tha may be how malmaison do things we do like attentative service but we dident but the roof top view was really good and the service upstairs was a lot better than in the brasserie
V. P.
Visited for lunch on the way to the Theatre, excellent selection of food at reasonable prices, thoroughly enjoyed of Fish finger wraps, will definitely revisit.
V. K.
A meal and service that exceeded all expectations!
We have been wanting to try the new Malmaison restaurant in York since it officially opened. We had the pleasure of having our Sunday lunch there today and I have to share just what a great experience this was. The food was exceptional and we even passed on our compliments to the chef! Everything was cooked to perfection and was 5* in every way. Superb!
Our waitress Cathy was fantastic! Attentive and extremely friendly and we cannot wait to have our Sunday lunch again there next week! The service and food are in a class of their own! Thank you Malmaison York for delivering a fantastic experience!
S. S.
Long weekend, quality of fixtures and fittings are first class, staff very attentive. We had an issue with room cleaning service but was resolved instantly to an excellent standard, the difference between an average and excellent hotel. Would highly recommend.
P. S.
The food was excellent and service was great. The restaurant is nicely spaced out, so there was a good atmosphere without being crowded.
Good wine list.
We visited the sky bar afterwards, on the too floor with a great view if the city.
This is wine, spirits, cocktails and craft beers in third of a pint glasses. So a bit more sophisticated than swilling pints.
G. P.
This is a fabulous hotel with fantastic staff. The rooms are spacious and wonderfully equipped and beautifully clean. The meals are fantastic at any time of the day. The roof terrace is the place to be of an evening for cocktails and light snacks. We were there in January and it was very cold but the.ooen part of the roof looked fantastic so I can imagine on a warm evening it would be amazing up there.
T. J.
Love this hotel so much. The staff are so helpful and the rooms are Amazing. Great location, not far from train station and very central. The sky bar SORA is a must visit the food in there is great and the view of the Minster is great
C. M.
Lovely roof top bar, sadly let down by the staff. Had a booking but they maintained we were an hour early. But suggested we could have a drink and wait for a take becoming free. But then ignored us after leaving the menu for us to look at. In all fairness the views are great, but not worth the lack of service. Especially as the drinks are premium price as you would expect. I wouldn't give it another go.
G. T.
Jubilee Bank Holiday get away. Fantastic location for station town centre. Wonderful rooftop for drinks and views. Staff and room 1st class thank you for a great break and to recharge. York we will return.
S. P.
Fabulous place, great food and fantastic cocktails, you definitely want to get dressed up when visiting.
J. H.
Great standard room. A lovely comfy bed and excellent shower. Staff were all incredibly friendly. Breakfast was great and I will definitely be returning. Highly recommend.
S. B.
Nice weekend away in York for my Birthday. Hotel was clean and tidy, room very colourful and spacious. Not too excited about the lighting in the room which would come on as you walk around the room, even turning on when id move in bed which was annoying. Staff were ok. Bar and waiting staff in the Restaurant were friendly and helpful but the Girls who greet you as you enter the Restaurant maybe need to smile a little. The location is superb and the rooftop terrace great. Do suggest not using the air conditioning in the room unless you have to, room was freezing until we figured out how to turn it off. Restaurant was great, not the kind of food i get excited about, more of a steak and chips man lol but my partner loved it and the food was excellent. If we visited York we would stay here again
J. P.
Great place! we stayed here for our honeymoon in York last week in a Club Deluxe Room (as it was a *very* special occasion). The room was fantastic, the bed was probably the comfiest I've ever slept in, and the view from our 4th floor room was very nice. We also had a large 2-person bath and rain shower which made the mornings and evenings very comfortable.
The hotel aesthetic is fantastic and the vibe is very modern yet comfortable. The staff are wonderful and always willing to help out. The breakfast I had included with my room's package was great, decent choice of cooked brekky and very delicious stuff.
My only nitpicks would be that it felt like the bar was often understaffed / abandoned at times, and is shut for a lot of the daytime so isn't really a place you can sit and comfortably wait for your next event. And also that our room was cleaned on the day we requested it not to be, and not cleaned on the day we *did* request it 😅 It wasn't a big deal, just a very small nitpic to what was otherwise a fantastic stay.
M. B.
Great hotel which is easy walking distance to York Minster, the shambles and the National Railway Museum. Its a modern hotel with spa, and the roof top bar (Skybar) is a lovely place to meet friends or just unwind. Limited basement parking is bookable and secure versus the local NCP. If you want to walk the wall around York, then it's easily accessible just across the street from the reception. Staff have all been very polite, professional and welcoming.
T. M.
Lovely, comfortable, modern hotel. 5min walk from railway station and 5min walk to city centre: York Minster, museums, shops, cafes, restaurants, riverside, etc. Great location, overlooking part of the city walls. Staff are friendly, accommodating and informative. Food is very good with breakfast being especially so: great porridge! Would definitely stay here again: a lovely hotel in a lovely city!
T. J.
Everything about our stay was superb. We changed from a suite to a family room on the advice of the staff, and it was absolutely perfect for us. I'm not big on hotels, but this room was excellent. However the real reason this stay was so good was the staff. Yasmin, Manny and the team made it an absolute joy, from the moment of first interaction. The level and tone of service was punching well above the weight of a hotel chain of this size and budget. It's one of the very few occasions I have left a hotel thinking that I would definitely be going back!
R.
The 5stars is purely for the spa! Sophie and the team were amazing abd friendly, the treatment were so relaxing and well worth every pound spent.
The hotel..... to be fair the customer service after issues is outstanding and staff are friendly and helpful, however the issues should have been avoidable. Stained pillow cases, beds not made well, dirty doors and sinks.
The bar staff were lovely and drinks were spot on. Breakfast was OK.
Item to note for the club rooms for couples it won't be an issue but if in the room with friends, the wall between the shower and bed is glass and not privacy glass so you can see from the beds straight into the shower room but one person can go sit on the sofa so you can see in.
D. C.
The rooms are clean. Service is efficient and friendly. In particular Jessica in the Sky bar. The sky bar is dreamy. Sophie & colleague in the Spa we’re both excellent & looked after us like royalty. Well done Malmaison x
H. F.
We stayed here for several days over two weeks. The breakfasts are lovely, our suite was super comfortable (except the couch😃). The staff were really friendly and helpful. It's not easy to manage large suitcases, there's a flight of stairs. Any minor issues with the room were sorted out quickly. Parking is expensive but that seems to be universal in York.
G. L.
Also, as an edit to my earlier review, Charles, Adam, and Josh were the absolute standout of staff and made the night
B. H.
We visited the Sora Sky Bar - it was a little too cold to sit outside so we went indoors. It was beautifully decorated and were treated with the utmost respect. The food was faultless - it arrived promptly, tasted amazing and was served beautifully. You could tell the chefs really cared about their food and presentation. We enjoyed some cocktails with our dessert (the mousse was amazing!!) The waiting staff were all excellent - extremely polite and very attentive. Overall a very enjoyable experience and will be returning again soon.
J. A.
Reply nice and appreciated the complimentary drink voucher you can opt for instead of having your room serviced. That’s one of the post covid changes we need to keep as it was never necessary to have fresh towels every day etc. Only regret was the rooftop bar not being open on the nights I was staying, though the bar downstairs was very pleasant and relaxing. The mirror has a light on it which didn’t appear to possible to turn off so draped towels over it instead to get the room dark.
D. B.
Great, stylish hotel. Very good bed and quiet room. Good food and great bar service. Highly recommend. If you wish to use the sky bar and sit outside you need to book in advance, we couldn't get a table while we stayed there. Staff very good.
e. G.
Perfect service from receptionists Amber and Sarah. Jumped in hoops to accommodate my stay. Very professional. Chris … food and drinks manager… again excellent…. Food and drinks in Sora bar delicious. He extended personal service and ensured staff were on pointe!
L. D.
Unique hotel in an excellent location for exploring York. Staff were friendly and helpful. Comfy room with everything you need. Breakfast was really tasty with plenty of choice
K. T.
The staff were absolutely impeccable. So unbelievably helpful and accommodating.
The hotel was beautiful and clean and the beds were amazingly comfy and a lovely shower
Yasmin made the stay absolutely brilliant. Looked after us amazingly, great customer service, great sense of humour and made the whole experience ten times better.
Thank you Yasmin and the Malmaison team for a brilliant stay. X Love - room 509 (nightmare guests!)
B. F.
We didn't stay here, but did eat in the rooftop Restaurant & Bar. The views over York were Spectacular and although it was busy the Service was very good. Definitely worth a visit, but it's best to book it well ahead of visiting.
K. R.
Amazing views of York from the roof top bar. Food was great definitely try the belly pork. Staff were lovely always making sure we were okay haven't felt so well looked after in a long time. A bit too cold to stay outside even with the views so had to come inside. Hopefully sort out some smaller heaters nearer the tables for winter? As the views were to die for. Hotel prices but expected that and the food was delightful.
c.
We stayed here for our wedding anniversary in August 2021. The staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
The staff in the brasserie weren’t so good and accidentally smashed a glass over my foot and it was dealt with very poorly and even had the cheek to add the service charge on.
R. D.
Great hotel,Always well worth a visit. Cocktails in the Sora bar were fantastic. Loved the gold elevator to get to it. Room was comfortable clean and had a relaxing sleep.perfect.
m. g.
Amazing!
You pay for quality. Suites are outstanding. Our dinner was to die for. So was breakfast. Great service too.
I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in York.
C.
Club twin room had a lovely view of the river and York Minster! Restaurant was a bit overpriced for what was on offer but food was nice. Room was fantastic with everything you could need and some lovely design elements.

Hotel was good and rooms were great. Staff were helpful and tried their best to serve.
Unfortunately the worst was checking in and checking out. Massive queues and unusually long wait.
They must have had less staff due to pingdemic as the cleanliness of the shared areas were really poor. The lift foot plates were dirty throughout our stay and weren't cleaned. The toilet near downstairs restaurant had soap and paper towels missing.
And some areas hadn't been vacuumed in a while.
Breakfast was good and staff very friendly. We couldn't visit the upstairs restaurant, which we had booked, as it was closed due to lack of staff. The bar however, was good and interesting cocktails, but no food, even chips, as restaurant was closed which was a real shame.
Would visit gain but only if it was a weekend deal or special promotion.

Sora Sky Bar... Just fabulous. Views amazing. Food, Japenese Tapas, out of this world. Cocktail & drinks menu brilliant. Staff (Georgia I think we were there 23rd April 1pm booking under Amanda) the best. Atmosphere & ambience perfect & spot on music.
Will be back & bringing new people.

Just spent 2 nights @ Malmaison York and it was superb!
Staff on reception and throughout are nice & helpful.
Our "club room" was a decent size with a huge comfortable bed , showy clean and ample storage for a shirg break.
Breakfast choice & quality was very good.
We didn't dine in the Sora restaurant but had a few drinks in the Sky bar ( within the same area) , the setting is super and I think would be better in summer where you can see across York town centre but to see the Minster illuminated in the near distance was nice.
Location is good with only a 5min walk into town.
All in all a great hotel and no hesitation in recommending 👍👍
M. B.
Absolutely lovely 😍 great staff amazing rooms, would take some beating 💓 😀
G. W.
Great stay! The rooms were clean, modern and spacious. Another solid Malmaison experience.
I. R.
Great hotel, staff ever so friendly and helpful, lovely breakfast 😋
N. K.
Fantastic hotel and extremely friendly staff (especially those on reception). They couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a wonderful time. The breakfast was also great with a varied selection. We will definitely be back!
J. B.
Had 2 nights booked on an opening offer.
Lovely deluxe room - very spacious. For a new hotel the front of house and restaurant staff were great. Food was excellent. Management were superb sorting a couple of issues - it has only been open a few weeks. On the whole a nice stay and superb location
S. W.
Only downside is the parking, but a surprise discount card for NCP when we checked out meant the weekend was cheaper than I expected!
h. s.
Great on a clear dry day for views from balcony. Took the golden lift up...one stop. Welcomed on arrival and seated with drinks menu. Lovely relaxing and stylish atmosphere
L. F.
Went to sky bar, view's amazing, food nice, staff very friendly, lovely evening would recommend just for the views
S. G.
We booked a meal for my friends birthday. The hotel was amazing and food was delicious. All the staff were very pleasant and friendly especially our waitress Jess. Her customer service, politeness and hospitality skills were of the highest standard that I have ever come across. This young lady is an asset to the hotel and will go far in this industry.
e.
Stayed for 2 nights in the deluxe double room, had an amazing experience. Room was spacious and stylish. Staff were all lovely and the food in the brasserie was divine (although it was on the pricier side). Perfect location in the heart of the city. Will definitely be coming back next time we’re in York. Thank you! :)
L. C.
A lovely meal, good service and a pleasant atmosphere. More expensive than we would usually go for but no complaints at all.....oh I guess one little one....only ice cream or sorbet for the vegan dessert options as the other one had sold out. So we passed on dessert.
H. R.
Our stay at the malmsison was excellent
The hospitality was second to none
They could not do enough for you
Our room was the perfect haven for relaxation.
As it was my partner’s birthday
It was made even more special
We will definitely be revisiting
This superb hotel and not forgetting
Jack and Natalia who played a great part
In making us feel welcome
S. B.
We are half way through our stay - room is lovely and location is fantastic, the service however, really not up to scratch and the worst we have ever experienced. We waited an hour and a half for our room service tonight. After 1 hour we were informed one of our meals wasn’t available and had to reorder and wait a further 35 mins. One meal arrived completely different to what was listed on the menu which I sent back. I then reordered and received a soggy sandwich and stale crisps. Beyond disappointing!

This is a review for "Sora"
We visited Sora in York last light which is an Asian Fusion Tapas and Cocktail Bar, it is within York and it was absolutely beautiful.
As soon as you enter the building the decorations are really nice and when you go up the lift and come out at Sora, the decorations are so beautiful! You will definitely want to take some photos!
My friend booked in advance which was really good as I think they get full pretty fast so make sure to book in advance.
It is the first time I have ever asked for a "KFC"! Which was...Korean Fried Califlower. It is the most stunning dish I have had in so long, covered with a Sweet Chilli recipe and Sesame seeds and extras on top it was gorgeous.I was actually really surprised with the food portions, as one drink can be £10, for £6 the KFC was quite a generous portion which was amazing.
I also had the Aubergine Robata Grill Plate which was also really nice, I would have it again and would love to go back and try some other vegetarian dishes 😋
My friends bought the Dragon Sushi Rolls and the California Rolls which they really enjoyed (again quite big portions as I thought they would only have around 4 pieces per serving)
While there we were given an item off their new menu which were salmon rolls, my friends said they were lovely!!
We bought Processco and Pinot Grigio which were really nice.
There were lots of food options and drink options, the drink options being unique Japanese drinks which we didn't end up trying but they sounded lovely.
We went when it was dark and unfortunately raining but I have been told you can sit outside so I will definitely go back again and visit when it's warmer!
Toilets were very clean and nice.
Absolutely enjoyed it!
J. B.
Fabulous place and great staff. The food is excellent. However, the last time we went, the food arrived at intervals, but this time it came all at once. Probably our fault, so maybe order a few dishes and when you're ready, order a few more. All very tasty.
P. D.
Took my partner to the Sora Sky Bar on the 7th floor for cocktails and tapas.
The slightly disappointing York skyline at night aside, the food was fantastic.
Who knew that Korean style fried cauliflower could be one of the nicest things you've ever eaten? Great service and fantastic ambience!
K. P. D.
First time here lunch was great .. server's were wonderful...views great .. .only downside was we could not go outside as it was too cold in May! but ho hum that's the Great British weather for you 😉 🤣👍
J. L.
We stayed in one of the deluxe suites, it was very spacious, extremely quiet, the curtains blacked out EVERYTHING, very large and comfy bed, 2 tvs, lovely retro furniture, powerful shower and large bath.
The water wasn't hot enough for a bath though, not sure if it was just bad luck or the time of day? And the breakfast didn't seem to be made with any love. It was.... OK. My hubby's poached eggs were clock cold, although, to be fair, they did offer to bring him more.
The hotel is really centrally based for the markets etc, only a 2 minute walk.
The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. All in all, a really nice break away.
P. J.
Review for Sora: Rooftop view is great, wine list good but the food was underwhelming. Disappointing sushi that looked great but didn’t have much taste. Would go again for drinks though.
P. G.
Lovely contemporary hotel, super friendly staff. Great breakfast. My only criticism was there was not enough light in the room, very difficult to see to do make up or read.
N. F.
Staff lovely, bed so so comfy, shower amazing, staff really friendly.
Lighting in the room was atrocious, couldn't apply make up without using my phone as a torch. Lifts are a nightmare - mention them to any member of staff and they'll know!

Location fab rooms beautiful all u would need verrry modern nice fab shower so basically in a nut shell this hotel for business , come in main door look to left bar and restraunt lifts ahead to rooms look to right just move your head no need to move your body right side geared up for business and starbucks , . photography took in this hotel is fab looks twice size it actually is sora Is nice but seriously don't book this hotel if its sora u particularly like look of like us it's a restraunt not a bar u can get a drink but how long u could sit there debatable, prime place though we were lucky to get a minster view and the bridge and greenery if didn't wouldn't like to think like I say is a city hotel , breakfast staff really loveley team leaders need to pay more attention to bedrooms after room assistant cleaned them not room assistant faults if not told missed anything dusty dirty cups and marks all over mirrors and how anybody passed those dressing gowns I do not no not even a hook on 1 of them to tie should of been rejected on arrival from laundry company need I work in house keeping no the drill it's a shame hopefully someone will pay attention to these points and manager actually notices not just tell his deputy to deal with it I would of expected more from such a brand name as I say work.in hotel no all the brands and thete standards I noticed never said anything to my husband as wasn't thete to pick fault at another brand he noticed I just said ahh well it happens tha busy but was shocking x
D. M.
Booked for my partners birthday on the 15 Jan. Was greeted by a very friendly receotionist wish i could reamber her name but she was lovely. After finding our room. its very modern and the bathroom and bedroom lay out amazing. I made a booking for there SORA sky bar that is a must fab and the views ive been told are amazing unfornuately there was fog on that day. The staff so so so friendly and the tapas delicus the (kfc) korean fryed coliflower is a must try.
After going out for the night decided to pop in to the bar, again the staff friendly and welcoming. Its a perfect hidaway at the end of the night. Can't wait to come back
T. H. C.
Well what can I say but wow!!
Rooms where delightful, food was out of this world amazing and staff where simply lovely! All of them went out of our way to make our stay special.
The rooftop bar gave stunning views across the city however it started to rain so we had to come in can't blame the hotel on that count... and then waking up in the morning to a view of the Ouse and the Minster delightful!
I very rarely give good reviews I can normally pick fault with most things however on this occasion our stay was outstanding so thank you!!! Now don't let it drop or the next time I stay I will complain!!
5 stars well deserved!
D. C.
Wow! Wonderful hotel. We had 3 different rooms during our stay and all were amazing, the Club Room and the Family Rooms were best. Really well designed. Room service was fantastic. Charlotte in reception was really helpful and we loved our stay. Definitely coming back!!
P. K.
Stopped there over 4 nights for our 30th anniversary, on valentines night. Staff very welcoming and professional. The room on the 5th floor with a view. The food was excellent. Can't fault the hotel and staff. Thank you.

We spent a long weekend in York and we booked a family suite. Room was spacious and modern, good shower and decent sized bath, plus two separate living areas/rooms (the first room as you entered had a sofa bed with TV, then the bathroom followed by the main room with a super-king sized bed and another TV on the wall). Bed was comfortable, although I always find hotel rooms too warm and this was the case during our stay (even though we had adjusted the temperature).
Breakfast consisted of the usual fare - cereals, croissants/pastries, bread for toasting, yoghurts, fresh fruit, tea and coffee. Being vegan, there were three different plant-based milks available, which was good to see. You could also order a cooked breakfast. Unfortunately, we didn't have vegan spread for our toast until our last morning there, as the hotel had experienced issues with certain deliveries. Also, the sausages with the vegetarian breakfast were not vegan, but in fairness to the staff, they gave us sliced avocado instead which was a nice touch. Cooked breakfast had wilted spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and baked beans. The staff discovered on our second day that the potato croquettes/hash browns appeared to be vegan, as there was no egg or dairy in the ingredients (they even kindly showed me the packaging, so I could check the ingredients myself). So it was great to have these for two of our three breakfasts.
The hotel can also give you a discount voucher if you park your car in the nearby NCP carpark. Where our ticket would have normally cost around £75 for 3 x nights, it only cost us about £52 (from memory) using the discount voucher. So remember to request this when you check-in.
Room was quite expensive, but there were limited options (only a family suite was available) and this was due to quite a few large groups staying at the hotel. Hotel is in a very good location, with most things within easy walking distance. Overall, service and room were very good. Food was okay, but we appreciated the efforts made by the staff to provide us with vegan options and alternatives.
M. K.
The room was lovely and breakfast . We booked the sky bar but wish we hadnt bothered. Service was TERRIBLE! We waited over 40 mins to get our drinks served. 3 members of staff attended us but failed to deliver our drinks. We asked to move tables due to the draft from door to outside terrace. Member of the team said she would go snd check but never returned despite there being plenty of empty tables. It wasn’t even very busy at the time we were there and there was plenty of staff so all in all very disappointed especially as we had invited my son and girlfriend to join us as a treat. We only stayed for one drink due to the poor service. We expected so much more from a hotel and bar of this quality.
c. n.
Great hotel most off staff pleasant , not all.
Rooms lovely, clean, comfortable.
Breakfast good.
Resturant Alacart TERRIBLE heated up food sent some back .
G. P.
Go to the roof bar an excellent view of the city a separate gold lift.
A. A.
Really nice hotel with great location. Though the shower in the family room did not have a door which is a bit uncomfortable for a family room with 3 people staying in it.
F. F.
So this was a lovely hotel at reception and breakfast area, rooftop bar was pretty cool too. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable! Staff were excellent and so helpful 😍
Room I was in 105 had the worst lighting I've ever experienced in a hotel there was no mirror at the dressing table and some kinda weird sink, shower, kitchen, toilet thing going on. For my whole visit I didn't put make-up on or do my hair properly as I just could see. 😭. Also the bed faced the window which faced an office block making it even darker/duller. TV was on a side wall which was weird too!
I had requested a room with a view and feel we got the worst view of the whole hotel. 😢
Breakfast was amazing and the continental choice was really good too!
S. D.
Excellent service. All the staff very helpful and friendly. Recommend the Sky Bar - great views!
P. N.
I didn't know a place like this existed in York.
The roof top bar is amazing with some of the best views of the York skyline that you can find.
It is a posh place so is a little pricy but in this case it's worth the price.
We had a sushi sharing plate which was amazing. Highly recommended.
S. C.
Great brand of hotels. The accommodations were great as well as the service.
P. M.
The soha bar is a Great place for an evening cocktail or a light snack (sushi looked great from what we saw people eating but we didn't get any as we'd already eaten). Prepare to pay a tenner ish for a drink but you're paying for the view and the service, both of which are excellent. Staff are very attentive and worth a tip, it gets a little nippy later on up there, blankets are available but always worth having another layer if possible.
Don't use the main 2 lifts in the reception, you need to use the lift to right up the small steps.
I. L.
A little disappointing. Having stayed at other Mal locations this one lacks character and, even allowing for it being newly opened, the operation is not smooth. Individually the staff are good but the systems and processes make any interaction difficult and lengthy. Design of the dining room is bizarre, with staff having to shuttle long distances between stations. They have better offerings, as a group, and York has better comparably priced hotels to stay.
R. F. S. L.
Had a great stay here last week for a special occasion. The bar staff in Chez Mal in particular were brilliant - look after them!
M. M.
Great hotel spacious room good food great rooftop bar overlooking York minster
F. C.
Modern hotel just minutes walk from York train station and city centre ! Couldn’t be more convenient. Dog friendly too!
S. S.
Good shower and comfy bed but the rooms are so so dark. The make up mirror light is useless and you can't increase the brightness of any of the lights in the room enough to see properly. Decent space in the rooms but lighting is something that really needs looking at.
Breakfast was disappointing for the price... I ordered eggs benedict on the first morning and the eggs were cold and no runny yolk at all. Bacon was a bit burnt as was the bread. Other than that plenty of options for continental breakfast and help yourself to tea and coffee on the machines.
J. C.
Beautiful expierence up on the roof terrace overlooking york city center bar walls and museum gardens.
Very comfortable well set out, and if you like your cocktails this is the place to visit.
Food available also, but check it out before your visit.
G. G.
Good location easy to get from station and city centre
However the room was spacious but the lighting was terrible, bit dusty on the ledge
Pillows were very soft and made my neck hurt
Went to spa for a massage, absolutely lovely, but was disappointed that they didn’t have a pool facility
The spa included lunch at the sky bar, it was lovely but the lunch was sushi and both me and my daughter don’t like sushi so they gave us something different, chicken satay bit spicy but the cauliflower was nice as well as the dessert
We asked for extra towels but didn’t get any
Staff were friendly
Probably would stay again for the location
S. G.
Very modern, friendly staff, spa on site, unfortunately they don't have their own car park, you have to park at ncp but you do get a discount.
D. J.
Great 3 night stay for our baby moon. We had a small issue with our room however Michael, Yasmin and the team couldn't be more helpful. Had a awesome meal and cocktails at the Sky bar on our last night. We will be coming back!
S. H.
Great Hotel 10 minutes walk from loads of litte shops impossible to see it all.
You will need weeks so many interesting sites Engineering, History , Cafes, Nick knacks. You won't know what to do first😃
S. N.
Want to see a great view? Then book here for the sky lounge. With a birds eye view of the city you can enjoy a drink on the sun terrace with some tapas. Great service and great views
S. C.
Stayed here for my 40th birthday. The room was great and the staff really friendly. The location is also ideal with just a short walk to the centre of York.
j. b.
Serving staff polite and friendly a reasonable range of cocktails the rosemary chips were a small portion for £3.50 but the other dishes were good again the sweets were lovely but not cheap but on the whole we enjoy our visit would maybe visit again in the summer as it was cold on the roof.
D. K.
Small rooms, little atmosphere, over priced. I was disappointed by the Malmaison in York. I don't know if all hotels in York cost this much and offer little, bit do check other hotels. The room we were in was quirky, not sure of they are all like this.
L. M.
Beautiful setting, nicely presented food, prompt, friendly service and a wonderful spot to celebrate that special occasion. Be sure to check out the roof top dining with beautiful views of the Minster.
L. P.
Great hotel. Comfy bed, lovley shower, firm bed, a breakfast that I genuinely went to bed looking forward to on my second night and just a nice feeling to the whole place.
Ide of given 4.5 if I could though, slight issues (and I mean slight), the mirror next to the sink isn't adjustable enough and for a larger guy like myself, the space where the toilet is located is rather narrow. At least in the style of room I was in.
M. N.
Great location for a visit to York. Usual high standards at Malmaison.
Friendly staff with no messing out on check-in.
Finally the showers are brilliant! Oh and lifts super fast - like rocket ships lol! (might seem a small point but I've stayed in hotels where you are queuing for ages).
V. H.
Went to the sky bar was disappointed that I had looked at a menu online and was looking forward to steak only to realise they only served Japanese food so don't know where the other menu was for however it was amazing the staff were great despite waiting 20 mins for my drink they were great at explaining what went into the cocktails and great with explaining the food
K. S.
Sora Sky Bar. Did
Food and drinks are fantastic. Bit pricey though. Great views if you catch it on a good day. Weather dependent.
J. S.
I was given a voucher for champagne lunch for 2 as a gift and just wanted to say what a fantastic lunch it was. The staff were friendly and the food was amazing! Would definitely recommend it. Hopefully we'll be coming again soon.
L. P.
Can't comment on the hotel but recently visited Sora Sky Bar. Food was amazing but lack of gluten free options. Cocktails also very good. Views, obviously incredible. The service was so appaling that I've had to knock off 2 stars. Once seated we waited 20 minutes before I was even able to wave someone over. Another 20 minutes after finishing before I could grab the bill. 2 people aren't needed to clear one table. The staff seemed unkeen to interact with customers.
M. K.
No track and trace.
The dining experience was very rushed with starters arriving before we'd finished the olives/bread. The waiting staff, despite not being full were in such a nagging hurry to move us through our meal. The food was ok but definitely should of been hotter.
B. I.
Absolutely fantastic staff and the rooms are really big and good quality furniture and lovely rainfall shower. Great breakfast quality food and excellent service rooftop bar really nice place to chill out would definitely recommend
g. c.
Beautiful hotel with very high standard rooms and facilities. Also great food see pic of eggs Benedict
D. C.
Excellent hotel, really good central location.
J. G.
Ok so yes a nice hotel but we haven't had a great experience. We had to wait 2 hours from check in for our room to be ready. We were compensated with some free drinks and apologies. I understand the staff shortage due to people having to isolate but the excuse of being busy isn't good enough when its a hotel in a busy city and its what they should be used to. Our room was amazing but there was a thick layer of dust on the bathroom radiator. I told them about it on our way out and they said it would be sorted. Came back to the room and it hadn't been sorted.
The staff we dealt with couldn't have more helpful and friendly but its just put a real dampener on our stay here
M. C.
Went for dinner to the Sora Sky Bar. All I can say is thank god somewhere like this has opened up in York! Fantastic food and surroundings, and York's answer to Nobu. Service 50/50 which is the same everywhere with newly recruited staff currently, also it had only been open a week or so. However go there! Whether a local or tourist - great views, great atmosphere, great food, great service (all things considered) it's a really fantastic experience, made even better by the exclusive gold elevator ;-) Highly recommended and a lot cheaper than I thought. We ate nearly 60% of the menu, had 2 bottles of wine, a beer and a gin and paid less than £150. Which for what it is - that's great value! So save up, and go!!!
S. M.
Excellent from start to finish. Really looked after by Yasmin who made the booking and check us in. Funky bedroom with fabulously comfy beds. Great breakfast, cocktails. Beautiful hotel with excellent facilities. Will be back soon.
M. M.
My wife and her friend have just arrived home after a stay at the Malmaison. They were very impressed with the whole stay and the convenience for reaching the Christmas Market. They wish to thank all concerned and are planning another visit soon.
V. M.
Nice bar and reasonably priced for a hotel in york
M. w.
Overall the experience at Malmaison York was a positive one and we were particularly impressed with the room (both size and design) considering we stayed in the most basic option as the Deluxe room had sold out. The food and service in Chez Mal were also very good.
However there were a few negatives:
1. On the first night (Thursday) we had a dinner reservation at 9pm so at just after 8 decided to go up to Sora for a quick cocktail. However, we had to wait 45 minutes for just one drink which meant we were actually late to our dinner reservations. I wouldn't say Sora was particularly busy that night to justify the wait.
2. The pillows in the room are paper thin and provide no support or comfort at all. It feels as though the hotel has simply purchased the cheapest pillows available and put no thought into how this might affect their guests' sleep. I found myself waking up several times during the night because of this
3. Obviously the hotel is still very new and areas are still under construction / refurbishment. However I was not expecting to be woken up at 8:30 by drilling and banging in what sounded like the room directly above me. This was especially annoying because I hadn't slept well due to the pillow situation.
4. The hotel website advertises the spa and gym, however on arrival we weren't given any information about these facilities and on making further enquiries, it turns out the spa isn't even open yet.
I appreciate that the hotel is very new and there will be a few teething issues, however Malmaison is a very well-established brand and I would have expected these to have been ironed out in previous hotels. I'm sure that some of these issues will be resolved in time and would consider staying at Malmaison again
K. D.
Funky hotel conveniently close to the station and general attractions. Rooms are super modern and good facilities with a proper fridge. Breakfast is pretty good and the bar staff are fantastic, super welcoming!
A. H.
Too expensive and unfriendly staff. Location not so convenient and car parking is terrible. Rooms are modern but sink in the bathroom is impractical.
B. T.
Visited the sky bar the other day and the service was excellent. The hostess Georgia found us a table and we were served fantastic cocktails by Elizabeth for most of the evening. A great new bar for the city.
M. L.
Sora bar.Great view of the White House.Good food.Disapointing that a £42 bottle of wine was not properly chilled.
M. O.
Lovely hotel. Room spotless, lovely food and very friendly staff who made our stay here special. Special thanks to Yasmin and the great youngsters in the Diningroom (Laura, Jamie and
Tyler). Elsa Orr
L. W.
Beautiful hotel, staff were so accommodating, even got a voucher for a free cocktail because it was my birthday! 100% would recommend and will be staying here again.
B. R.
We only used the Starbucks cafe. The hotel looked amazing- the Starbucks not so. Tea was awful and food didn't look appetising at all. Certainly wouldn't recommend it
M. D.
Excellent view from the rooftop bar, staff were excellent. A special mention for Jade who was our brilliant waitress.Just a brilliant location if you fancy a bit of luxury
K. C.
We stayed at the hotel which was lovely. Staff are all very helpful and friendly. Complaints would be the water pressure was really bad and the bath couldn't get hotter than luke warm.. Also wouldn't recommend the sushi at the sora bar as it was quite bland.
d. s.
Great location and room design but overall experience lowered by complete lack of response to my enquires and phone call (no one answered for 17 minutes - I gave up) lots of robot messages to book dinner buy advance breakfast and upgrade room - just upselling. . Very impersonal, pricey, so not good value. Chose not to eat in hotel because of that.
J. B.
Just had a drink. Not cheap, very nice and helpful staff. Very nice ambience. Food did look nice from what I see. Lovely outside area with great views.
I. D.
Went to the sky bar, very good service, great views.
M. G.
Spatious rooms and very comfy beds. Also they can hold onto your bags after you check out.
S. S.
This is a review for the Sora Sky Bar. Highly recommend going on a sunny day. Stunning views across York, and really nice drinks too. Recommend a visit!
M. S.
We visited the Malmaison in York really to see the views from the top terrace. We arrived just before twelve and found there was free coffee which was welcomed very much.We took the lift to the top and was allowed through the restaurant onto the terrace.Although quite windy the views of the cathedral, the river and all round York was amazing .The Hotel itself was modern, great to see and probably a nice place to stay. One major hiccup is the fact it has no carpark but close enough to walk into the centre of York .
G. M. M.
The ambience is soothing & the staffs are very friendly and accomodating. The food is scrumptious. Oh, not to forget the cocktails are irresistible!
R. Y.
Total luxury. Amazing food and service that was exquisite.

Fabulous hotel and staff, sky bar was brilliant, the location is perfect would definitely stay again
P. B.
Great hotel we had the Sunday dinner I’ve got to say it was the best Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever tasted I believe the chief was called ibrahim and the waitress was called Niamh who was a very pleasant and efficient waitress really enjoyed the the food and service the Reception staff Were really friendly as well we defo recommend
C. A.
The food and service are outstanding! Staff always happy and cheerful even early in the morning. Clean and prompt service. And the location is amazing, within the historic walls!
Z. R.
Like others my stay was also cancelled, they were able to book me into their sister hotel, Hotel du Vin, which was a good hotel and they honoured the price I booked with Malmasion, but I did find the process of moving my reservation a bit confusing. It wasn’t clear for a while if they would offer the same price I reserved at malmasion, and at Hotel du Vin there was a separate menu to choose our dinner from but that wasn’t clear until we were about ordered from their ‘normal’ menu. we were also given a free gin to apologise for our cancellation but had to pay for tonic, which then felt like it was no longer really a free drink.
M. B.
Although rather cutting edge for two septuagenarians used to the more commodious environs of the du vins ,we found the alternate cherry and banana wallpaper on the stairs an invaluable aid to finding the room (once we had located the stairs….signage throughout also being minimalist). At least we only had to remember a number rather than a french wine. The reading pull out light for bedside reading was top class and the room a triumph in modern space saving design. The staff were most obliging and keen to garner excellent reviews on this site,on which my wife seems to regard as a sacred text. The two evening meals were far superior to our experiences at other establishments in this group, and the maison plonk was reasonable. Ed Riordan should consider spending some of his new found wealth here.
A. W.
Visited Sora for lunch. A great selection of food & good sized small bites. Lovely view of the city from the outdoor seats.
A. A.
Menu is fairly small, Japanese tapas. Food quality is excellent. Quite expensive. Nice place, great rooftop views.
J. G.
Pretentious or what. Advised we don't serve pints only schooners ( not the boats). It's really half a pint price gouged to 6 quid. Nice views of the Minster though.
C. H.
Review is for the Sora Skybar. Had an amazing evening of Asian inspired tapas and cocktails. Best food I’ve had in a long time. Views are lovely and service was excellent. The whole experience was lovely 🥰
M. D.
Have been to Sora quite a few times now had excellent service every time all the staff are wonderful Silvija, Jess, Gabe, Elizabeth, Georgia, Emily, Ezther and others too! Drinks and food are amazing quality so price is justified, there is nowhere like it in York
L. F.
Lighting in rooms good for atmosphere but really dark and impractical. Cleanliness questioned as notices alot on dust around even on the frame if the entrance door to the hotel.
L. H.
Lovely rooftop garden bar. Drink rather expensive...so was a nice treat.

Great hotel with really modern, funky rooms!
G. M.
Amazing hotel to stay. Came to celebrate 40th wedding anniversary! Upgraded room and champagne to welcome us. What more could you want!
S. H.
Really good different food. Good selection of drinks. Lovely sky bar overlooking the stunning views of York . Waitress was an absolute star . Well worth a visit .
S. R.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Service was excellent throughout
M. G.
Mediocre. Disappointing, No atmosphere. Have to beg staff to acknowledge you. Interior design is awful. Looks like they've raided wallpaper remnants bargain bins!
M. D.
Excellent experience from start time finish. Will definitely book here again x
L. D.
Check in was great, polite and informative. Rooms were good. Thought the bar staff were fantastic. Overall lovely stay.
A. W.
Lovely hotel close to the city centre 10/10 for me
B. L.
Sora Sky Bar is truly one of the most amazing experiences. The staff are phenomenal, the food and cocktails are out of this world.
P. H.
Great night away in York, clean comfortable room and great view and location.
J. M.
Very expensive Tapas for very little food , I found the Tapas menu scarce of choices and not informative of what you were actually getting. That said service was excellent and atmosphere exciting when up in the sky bar.
D. T.
Lovely hotel in a good location, roof top bar has great views over the city
E. A.
Sky bar was better than expected. Great views and service
J. G.
Visited Malmaison on the York Restaurant week. Excellent food and service
M. H.
Great hotel, interesting quirky rooms with good views from the rooftop bar/restaurant
B. S.
Very comfortable and nice rooms, but didn't like the window from bathroom to bedroom.
C. M.
Lovely hotel, very impressed with the standard room. Room was extremely quiet for a city centre hotel. Good cooked breakfast. Would stay here again
P. V.
3 night stay could not fault anything would definitely go there again
D. T.
Fantastic hotel and staff....rooms are comfortable clean and great views of the city...love the sky bar but it is on the expensive side for drinks.
J. Y.
Drinks with family at the sky bar . Service was a little slow but can't complain about the location/ views. Spectacular
T. h.
The good
Kfc Cauliflower
The average.
The rest of the meal
The atmosphere replicates any hotel really limited ambiance
The bad
Limited heaters
P. W.
Loved our stay. Staff very friendly.
D. D.
Had cocktails in Sora. Was fantastic.
N. A.

Hotel is absolutely first class
All the staff were extremely courteous
Three stood out
Megan
Elizabeth and Scott the manager
Our room was just fantastic
The shower was just the best and a lovely big comfortable bed to boot
The room was well kitted out with tea coffee water and a great little Nespresso coffee maker and moder tvs
Bottled water replenishment every day
Nice soft towels in the bathroom with a real luxurious feel
Toiletries are all Arran aromatics Which are a very expensive luxury
The breakfasts are again of a very high standard and service was prompt and ingredients are also of a very high standard
Sora bar is a little gem
Can't comment on food there as we never ate there but the cocktails were excellent as were the staff
Had nice warm atmosphere and amazing views
Location was perfect for our needs and can't wait to visit again
A huge shout to Scott king the duty manager who couldn't have done more for us
He is a genuinely lovely bloke who made our stay memorable
Keep up the great work guys
Regards
Laird and lady Gary nash of lochaber

Absolutely top notch. Some admin glitches when we checked in but soon forgotten when we went to the roof top bar and restaurant. Got to be the best view in York

Post pandemic, things are opening up nicely. I was made to feel like VIP. The conversion from the old Aviva building has been done in tasteful manner.
N. K.

J. B.
Lovely location, friendly staff and good atmosphere

A few issues with our room. Raised at checkout, dealt with by the deputy manager. Very professional and apologetic. Thanks, I would book again due to this response.
S. H.
A good hotel with a bit of a boutique vibe. Good for either business or leisure. Easily walkable to all the good bits of York, and moments from the train station.
P. V.
Queues for both check-in and check-out. Pretty bang average hotel in all respects, not worthy of the £200 per night price tag
R. M.
Bedroom windows don't open and the air con only goes down to 19C. So a bad night's sleep in hot, stuffy air.
A. S.
absolutely fantastic stay. the rooftop bar is brilliant.staff extremely friendly all round great experience

Lovely afternoon cocktails.

Starbucks at Malmaison in York is the smartest of the chain coffee houses I have used, and I've used many.
A. M.
Malmaison as a venue is lovely but the staff although friendly are very inexperienced and certainly untrained in looking after clientele Certainly won't be rushing back!
M. W.
Sharing a lovely memory and night at Malmaison. Drinks food staff great, highly recommend.
R. M.
Breakfast on Sunday average , beans and mushroom cold , bacon tasted odd , plenty of choice on cold counter

Slow service
J. V.
I stayed here for business.
Reception was quick and friendly. Room was large with comfortable bed. A tad noisy, but probably as I was near the lifts and tv was in an odd place.
The only problems were in the morning. Shower had no pressure, with water pulsing like a heart beat. Shaving mirror was held together by gravity. So not a good shower or shave.
Breakfast was OK. But had to go up to staff to ask to order. They looked stressed, yet it was not busy.
Price was good though compared to other hotels.
B. D.
Lovely rooftop bar, reasonable prices. Great views of the city in summer.
J. S.
It is a nice hotel, with nice rooms and great location, but when I arrived back late to my room, I figured out it was not clean up and refreshed :((
A. P.
(Translated) Modern and very comfortable hotel in the city center. Large and very quiet rooms. Apart from a few details the very friendly and efficient service. The breakfast is very good, the restaurant is average. Really great rooftop bar with a wonderful view.

Moderno e comodissimo albergo in centro città. Stanze ampie e silenziosissime. A parte qualche dettaglio il servizio molto cortese ed efficiente. Molto buona la colazione, nella media il ristorante. Bar sul rooftop davvero eccezionale con una vista meravigliosa.
