I don't normally write reviews but felt that I had to in this instance in order to compliment Jim and his team on an amazing job. They fitted a new oil boiler for us just before Christmas, not an easy job as it is located outside in an old wood shed! From the initial survey right through to the completion of the project, Jim and his engineers were professional, courteous and very helpful. Nothing was to much trouble and I felt very confident in the knowledge that they had. The boiler looks amazing and works brilliantly. We can already feel a difference in the overall house temperature and I am sure we are using less oil. Thanks Jim.

We had an old boiler system that was failing constantly with different issues. It was also noisy, inefficient, and the ambient temperature for the house proved difficult to control. We kept patching and repairing it: We would call in different plumbing firms who would replace whole parts (including a new and expensive pump that failed after six months) but they did not address the underlying problems. The whole system would also rattle and constantly leak. Subsequently, the boiler failed completely on a cold day in March: It leaked water over the electrical system when a part failed that over-pressured the system. At this point, we contacted Standen's Plumbing Company Limited, as we wanted a complete and impartial review of our entire system. We spoke to Jo and she was very sympathetic. She arranged for an engineer to come out to review our system and make some recommendations. David came as promised and diagnosed the underlying issue within minutes. He also inspected our hot water storage tank, radiators, and pipework. It was clear no part of the system had been serviced since the house was constructed. We were offered a repair of our system but it would involve sourcing parts that were now discontinued and potentially very expensive because of their scarcity. So, we asked for a quote on a new (and more efficient) boiler and a complete service of our central heating system. David explained the options and the installation work. James, the owner of Standen’s, turned around a same-day quote: It was competitive, complete, and included the installation of a professional and energy efficient new boiler. We had been spending a fortune on the old system and so it was an easy decision to accept the work. Standen’s changed their schedule to fit us in. David, Charlie, and Terry worked very hard on removing our old system, installing the new boiler, and then making good on the pipework and linked storage tanks. Nothing was too much trouble – the system was flushed over a day using modern magnetic technology to ensure the system was clean. Problems were resolved quickly and with minimal fuss: David’s knowledge and experience is second to none. A new exhaust chimney had to be installed but the team were careful with our existing decoration. They were professional, friendly, very tidy, and a pleasure to have in our home. I think we had excellent value for money combined with a fully-compliant and professional installation. We are delighted with our new system and completely recommend the services of Standen’s Plumbing Company: Professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and great customer service.

I have written before about the great service Jim provides. This time our boiler failed on Saturday night; I texted Jim well prior to breakfast on Sunday... & got a call back at 9 a.m., followed by a visit since he was in the area 11am Monday! Since we had chatted the problem through on the Sunday, he was able to bring along the likely failed part replacement. The company (in its centenary year I believe) is always helpful, prompt & couteous. Thoroughly recommend them, AGAIN! This is my second positive review. Standens did a fantastic job assessing the best ways to resolve cold spots around our office. An option they identified was to install an EVO system into the building. This has been incredibly effective! Not only do all rooms operate on their own thermostat that we can manage both electronically and manually, but also remotely! So in the current times where we are being asked to work from home, I can adjust the temperature of the building from my mobile phone at home to ensure the heating is temporarily off. This will no doubt save us money in the long run as we can use the heating system much for efficiently in future. Also, no more cold spots! Thanks Standens!

We had a Grant Vortex Combi 21 oil boiler installed & commissioned by Standen’s Plumbing of Congresbury in February 2017. In addition they fitted a MagnaClean magnetic filter, fitted Honeywell thermostatic radiator valves to all our radiators and replaced our old shower units with Mira minilux high pressure thermostatic units. The initial survey by Jim Standen and the installation work by his team were both carried out in a most professional manner. The new system heats up the house very quickly and the combi boiler means our showers now generate a decent pressure flow of water. We have seen a reduction in our oil usage and are very happy with our choice of boiler. They may not be the cheapest but if you want a quality job and system we would highly recommend using Standen’s. Drew & Carol Abbots Leigh, Bristol April 2018

Excellent Customer Service! The coldest week of the year, our central heating broke. We started off with another company, but after having bills totalling approx £1K and still no central heating (3 call outs and nearly 2 weeks having gone by), I contacted James at Standens. What a breath of fresh air! Great communication (very quick email response, plus text and phone communication too), nothing too much bother, and parts in stock - no having to wait yet another day to get parts from somewhere else. His team were prompt, polite, friendly, tidy, caring - and we now have a warm home! Furthermore, good value too. Having since read the other reviews, I wish we had found Standens first, and will be booking our annual boiler service, plus looking into an efficiency review too with Standens. Recently I had jim from Standens to advise me on, then instal an evohome system on my central heating. Now there are just 2 of us in a large 5 bedroom house I was looking to get a more controlable and economical system. My existing system was not even split into 2 zones so was reliant on traditional thermostaic valves around the house. Whilst not the cheapest system on the market the Evohome has given me full control of my system both manually or via the phone and Ipad apps, it is excellent. Jim was very knowledgable about the system, recommended a new variable speed pump to repalce my old one and installed everything with minimum fuss and disruption. I have certainly seen a reduction in my bills looking back on line with this system. Would recommend them.

We had a nightmare of a system, two houses joined together, two different heating systems, valves, pipes and noisy pump. Occasionally a room might get warm if we turned some other radiators off. Jim and his plumbers arrived, spent a day investigating and then came back with a plan. At the end of a week - the expected mess and chaos never materialised and they cleaned and cleared up every night - we had a heating system that for the first time in 30 years actually worked. It now provides an even, measured heat throughout a large and quirky house full of different levels and room sizes. It is quiet, efficient, very quick to come to temperature and fully controllable. People visiting actually ask what has happened to the heating as they can remember the days of 'roast or freeze' but now the whole house is a lovely even temperature. The old system had defeated several plumbers and looked like a ship's engine room, full of vibrating pipes and valves. Now it is neat tidy, silent in operation and for the first time in living memory, the house - and our three house rabbits - are warm. We are absolutely delighted with the result, the way the work was carried out and the attention to detail and care that went in at all stages of the project. Standens took a house with stone age heating and put us in the 21st century with an efficient and economic heating and hot water system. It wasn't a 'cheap job' but much less costly than a new system and the overall result was well worth what we paid. It was also done with good quality materials and fittings and they didn't cut corners to save a few pennies, which from my experience leads to long term problems. As a retired engineer I am always fairly critical of others attempts to resolve technical issues but these guys really impressed me. It was also done without ripping the house to pieces or leaving us with a huge bill for redecoration and reinstatement. They worked with what was there and used knowledge and experience to make it operate in a way we could never have believed possible. Superb value for money, customer care and nice people to deal with....and we have a heating system that works superbly.
