Reviews of The Wonky Table Restaurant

Booked for a family Christmas dinner. All members of the family enjoyed the lovely unique festive food and décor, great ambience. Despite the place not being too large it felt quite spacious and were given time to enjoy the night. The festive cocktails were also great but caused me to forget to pick up some family Christmas cards. Joe was great, during his own break he took the time to post the cards back to me. Being over three hours away this was a great help. Great staff! Can't wait to visit again.

A beautiful restaurant with amazing food! I'd highly recommend the Chicken Supreme and Sticky Toffee pudding! Staff are friendly and add to the unique atmosphere of this quirky eatery. Everything is cooked from scratch and definitely worth the wait!

I’ve heard so much about The Wonky Table, past it a few times, read up on reviews. Last night I tried it and it did not disappoint!! Very quirky, home-feel restaurant. Limited Menu but with some great options. The food was great and the service too. Would recommend, definitely. Thank you 💫
R. F.
After reading soooo many excellent reviews we decided to go there last Saturday and the whole experience was amazing! The food is very good and the staff is friendly&attentive.
Recommend this place…and 100% will definitely come back!!!
M. H.
Not a huge choice on the menu but a lot of thought gone into the meals. An awesome starter in the haggis and black pudding fritters with a whisky sauce. Will be back for more.
R. J.
Really good food served in a quirky setting. Staff were attentive, and chatty. Downfalls were the humous, which was unseasoned and the fact the table was directly next to the till and bar (within an arms reach of the till) this meant we could hear the bar staff chatting and felt a tad bit invasive. But we didn’t ask to move so this could be a fault on both parts. The salmon dish was enjoyable and served as a good portion or fish. The arancini balls , first time I have ever had this dish and I’m sure it will be hard to top anywhere else! Good portions and very tasty!! Worth a visit and staff were friendly! Will be returning!!

Came here Saturday 18/09/21 as I searched for places to eat in Derby. Read the reviews and all seemed good. The food and service was exceptional. The restaurant has a lovely feel about it and I would say artisan. Prices very reasonable and the food just delicious. I'm not one for a mesium/rare steak but how it was cooked and what it was served with just made it melt in your mouth. The owner was very friendly and took time to chat with you and also the waiter possibly chef as well, who was French, also took time to chat with you. All in all a fabulous experience and if your looking for that special place for a meal, then I couldn't recommend highly enough. Keep up the great food and service and we will be coming back. Stu & Victoria

Absolutely beautiful food and fantastic service from some really friendly staff.
The smoked mackerel paté and chicken supreme were the highlights. Would definalty recommend and will be coming back!
S. H.
Very good food. Polite staff. Worth eating here
L. Y. H.
Beautiful restaurant, they have special prices during the week. Nice selection of dishes, drinks menu is good and cocktails taste great.
A. B.
Really nice spot. Food was lovely and the staff were very friendly. Next time I’m in Derby I’ll definitely be returning 😍
J. W.
Have to say I was expecting more from this restaurant.
Felt rushed by staff.
Starter was okay but main disappointing. The steak was chewy the chips were greasy and soggy.
Then only 2 desserts offered out of 3. Opted for cheesecake then told that was all gone so only 1 choice. Very poor.
Thought it would be much better. Don't think we will be visiting again.
L. D.
Great food. Well presented. Service ok. Will go again at some point.
B. S.
Ordered the vegan kebab. Enjoined it along with the Oreo cheesecake, which was quite delicious.
Everything is homemade and they made it whilst we were there.
The place is lovely, including the staff / management. There are 2 floors and a lovely garden with some seating.
D. B.
Excellent experience. I love this place and the staff too. I like how Joe makes you feel so welcome, feel like you are at "home" and being hosted by a family member.
The food is nice and healthy. Would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family 🥰
S. B.
Excellent food. Attentive staff. Good drinks.
A. O.
Staff are very friendly. Saying that the food was amazing us an understatement. If you are looking for somewhere to eat in Derby this place should be on the top of your list!
S. C.
Long wait for food. Menu is small. Food only so so. Beer poor.
A. W.
The best restaurant in Derby. The food and service are exceptional. The decor is quirky and unique. The links with the local area in terms of the produce they source is so encouraging. It was our first time there and it will certainly not be the last
H. G.
Really lovely food and AMAZING service.
Pork Belly Bao Bun, pork belly main and hanger steak were amazing. We really liked that the priduce was local too. Only problem was we were too stuffed to have dessert!!! We even left with a doggy bag
G. E.
Really lovely, high quality food; mine was gluten free and dairy free - even pudding! All delicious. Highly recommended.
A. F.
I have been to the Wonky Table many times previously and always thought the food and service was excellent.
Yesterday we booked a table for my Sister’s hen ‘do.
We were given the room upstairs which like the rest of the restaurant was superbly presented.
Waiting staff couldn’t do enough for us and on top of that our waiter was so friendly. He even said goodnight to us at the end as we stayed very late.
There was no element of us being rushed out of the restaurant for tables, either.
It was roasting hot last night so after the meal we were asked if we wanted our desserts in the beautiful little garden downstairs.
Great selection of vegetarian options.
Food is superb quality, wine also!
Staff fabulous.
Would highly recommend this place.
Thank-you so much!
J. R.
Had a fantastic dinner for two just ahead of lockdown. Upstairs by the window was a great spot and the food and service was superb. I had Beetroot terrine for starter and Hanger steak for main...highly recommended...both of them. Also, for cheese lovers, taste Camembert...share for two.
F. W.
Lovely place. Very safe. Food fantastic. Recommend the beetroot and mushroom stew and the marinated chicken. The halloumi chips were great as were the dauph bites!! Pumpkin pie was first for me and was truly the taste of autumn. All washed down with a wonky mojito and excellent coffee. A great place to take student on their first meal out with mum and dad!! Thank you. We'll be back.
J. H.
High quality options. Attentive table service. Unique options of food and drink and presentation is nicely done. Eclectic atmosphere in a cozy setting.
A. M.
The atmosphere, the drinks and especially the food were brilliant!!!
W. R.
If I'm honest I thought it would be better and I'm sure it suits many people but for me I felt the menu wasn't large enough. On the plus side service was good and we had 2-3 waiters/waitresses covering our table. Some might find it to much but we were happy having the friendly staff around. My wife liked it more so maybe it just wasn't so well suited for me. I do recommend going there. It does do 'different' very well.
E. M.
Popped in for lunch with my daughter. Good service and friendly waiter. We chose veggie options - starter of baked Camembert and noodle soup for main. Both very tasty. Only disappointment was the wine which tasted really cheap and watery. When I asked for white wine I wasn’t given any choices. No sweet cider left so my daughter had a bottle of local dry cider, which tasted like fizzy vinegar. Much improved from last visit which was a bit disappointing. Will return.
J. M.
Still delivering during lockdown and the food is still very nice! We had a pulled pork burger and a Yorkshire wrap last night. Both were very tasty indeed. We have eaten here 3 times now and look forward to coming back when they reopen 😊
J. D.
Great food and even better service! This little restaurant is very nicely decorated and the staff so welcoming with great attention to details. The Wonky terrace at the back is a hidden gem and looks like the sun is always shining on it. The menu offers options for the whole family and is great value for money. The little potatoes soup of the day was approved by our baby and our 8 years old really enjoyed the chips, we did too. The halloumi cheese sandwich was perfectly cooked and presented. The choice of starters was so good it was difficult to decide who h one to go for. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout, it is clear they are enjoying what they do. I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Sunday Lunch Amazing!!!!
We had Sunday Lunch at the Wonky Table, they've only started it this week. The meat was so tender and melted in the mouth. Portion sizes were huge with an excellent selection of vegetables. The broccoli cheese was truly fantastic. Best Sunday Roast in Derby!!!
S. B.
We chose this restaurant because we were looking for a place that was not just another chain and that is what we got. This family run restaurant clearly cared deeply about their well selected menu and how their food is cooked and presented. They perfectly cooked my fillet steak to my liking and it was rich and flavoursome as a result. They also set an atmosphere which is friendly and welcoming. The decor is modern and quirky. I cannot recommend this place enough! Should I find myself in Derby again I will be back.
L. F.
First time in Derby and found this delightful little restaurant. Food was excellent and service was friendly and first class. Special mention to Jarvis, our super friendly, quirky waiter who looked after us. If we come back to Derby we will head straight fir this place
P. W.
Loved this restaurant. Was in Derby for a gig and ended up here by virtue of the fact it was close to where we were standing when we decided to get some food and seemed to be well recommended on Google and trip advisor.
So glad we ended up here though, the restaurant was lovely, very cosy with really friendly staff and the food was great.
Plenty of choice including most things on the menu being gluten free or having a gluten free alternative.
Really enjoyed the visit, if I end up in Derby again this is where I'll eat.
L. J.
Fantastic delivery during lockdown and the eased lockdown. Really impressed with the customer service and responsiveness. Delicious food delivered at a sensible time and lovely options available. Will be recommending for sure
N. C.
Heared alot about this place, never tired it but... Booked a table , greeted on arrival was given the option to eat outdoor or in , lovely customer service, food hot and absolutely yummy, fine wine , and lovely atmosphere, will definitely go back definitely recommend, and what you get is what you pay for , 5 stars from me
R. B.
Great food, great atmosphere. We will be back
W. B.
Small place near the center of Derby on what this Wednesday night felt deserted. I was greeted warmly and made to feel welcome as soon as I entered. Being alone I sat at one of the small tables but was never neglected by a cheerful attentive staff. The ambiance is eclectic and comfortable. The menu is not overwhelming and includes a nice selection of choices tasty modern British/European food. Thank you for a delightful meal.
L. D. C.
Visited for lunch with my mother a couple weeks ago. Was welcoming, relaxed clean and a bit quirky in decor, which was good. Good selection of foods available and vfm lunchtime courses. Our food omelette with three cheese and mushrooms was hot and tasty.
S. T.
I've been here a few times over the years for brunch, lunch and dinner. It's always delicious and good quality.
Most recently my wife and I went here for valentine's day. The meal was well cooked and presented and I didn't feel it was overpriced. We both had scallops, I had monkfish and my wife had beef and we shared churros for desert.
Definitely recommended.
B. N.
Great place for a good Saturday night dinner with friends.
Went there on a Saturday evening with friends and had a table reserved for 20:30. I'd definitely recommend a reservation at that time of the day.
We had all a fantastic experience with great starters, the steak for a main course and then desert. Upstairs was nice and quiet and the servers were well attentive to our needs. The brie for starters was amazing, as was the Black Forest Gato liquid desert.
All in all, it was a great experience for all 5 of us.
C. G.
Solid 9/10. The roasted veggies were fantastic and I enjoyed both the pork belly and the pigeon breast. (Think of very light liver). My only one point off was that they could have seated me better away from their front counter as the space was there. A little distracting being next to the staff confirming seasonal bookings.. but besides that. They were stellar.
J. R.
Amazing place, love the food and is all fresh and cooked really well. Thank you for great service and food.
M. R.
Excellent food & service, very good value for money, not been a few years, won't leave it so long before returning !
S. P.
Staff were friendly and helpful; great menu; food was flavoursome and well prepared; portion sizes were moderate (filling but not overwhelming). Have good selection of cocktails and mocktails. Dessert menu was not accessible on web site but there are desserts available. Has pleasant, initimate patio garden area with roof. Prices were moderate for city centre dining. Would go again.
J. B.
We love this restaurant, you get a lovely warm welcome the menus are not large but enough choice for all. All the food is locally sourced menus changed seasonally and is all homemade so no fast food or boil in the bag here. Special events are a regular once a month a Veggie night which is very popular. Vegetarians,Vegans & meat eaters this is the place to have a lovely meal. Sorry for the essay.
E. H.
We went out as 2 couples and enjoyed delicious food. Starters were (for 4) mushrooms, pigeon, calamari and beef croquettes. Mains were duck, venison, steak and fish if the day - all generous portions with a big dish of carrots, broccoli, and roast potatoes between us all. Desserts were cheeseboard (comfortably big enough for two) and chocolate dessert and posset. Wine and prosecco. The bill was not mega cheap, but the food quality and service made it excellent value.
C. R.
The food was amazing and the staff were friendly. There’s great vegetarian and vegan options. The restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere as well. It’s a lovely place!
C. P.
Good food 😋 good service 👍 Thankyou xx
K. M.
Very nice food. Interesting and tasty food. Made to order so freshly prepared.
j. B.
Amazing hidden treasure. Food was beautiful as was the atmosphere. Locally sourced produce and friendly staff made for a lovely afternoon date with my husband. We will definitely return and would recommend anyone to give the Wonky table a try.
M. M.
Warm welcoming reception on arrival, appetising, varied and interesting menu made my mouth water. This small family run local business deliver excellent service, food and atmosphere and deserve a full 5 star rating, they've totally refreshed the local street and made the place vibrant and appealing once again. Bravo!!. Thank you Holly for making my first visit a memorable one, I shall return with others next time to let them experience your hospitality. No discussing paint though :)
V. T.
Great British restaurant. I tried the Christmas menu and was amazed with the amount of British dishes and various red and white meats that the venue had to offer. Price reflected the quality of the meal, would have given full five stars but some root vegetables were undercooked.
D. F.
Went tonight the wife and I had an excellent meal stake cooked to perfection pudding delicious staff very friendly great service and value for money recommended by us.
A. O.
Fantastic delivery during lockdown and the eased lockdown. Really impressed with the customer service and responsiveness. Delicious food delivered at a sensible time and lovely options available. Will be recommending for sure!
A. Y.
Really nice food and service. Great vegan options as well.
M. A.
Great restaurant, located in the heart of Derby city centre. Staff friendly and great collection in the lunch menu. Food presentation is more than amazing and taste the same. I will come back to have dinner and deformation recommend to family and friends.
C. S. F.
I attended for the vegan night and oh my god. Joe the barman was very friendly and helpful. The food was incredible. I can't believe I got to have all that food with no dairy, no animal, just yummy yay yay!
I first thought it was a little expensive but you get lots for your money and the staff are just lovely. I cannot fault a thing. My friend is pregnant with a food baby and I am cuddling my pudding on the way home. We are very happy bunnies.
Please come to Belper!
R. N.
Best steak I've had in a long time. Staff were fun and attentive. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a proper meal after this hell of a year
J. K.
Great atmosphere and service. The food is quite expensive for the quantity but it tastes really good. You get what you pay for, really. I didn't have the vegetarian option but my friend did and said it was delicious. For a small business they really know their stuff and deserve their good reputation.
J. B.
Went for mothers day lunch. Food was lovely except portion size! Dont expect a bowl os soup - its half full. Similarly we ordered pudding with custard- it just about covered the bottom of our dish. We asked for more and a small ramikin was delivered. Perhaps a small jug of custard wud be better instead of putting it in the dish. Staff were lovely. And although its not budget price its worth it.
W. J.
This place was amazing nice and quiet so you can chat. The waiter and waitress were fantastic. I'm so glad we just went in with out knowing about the place, the food was fantastic and at a very good price.
M. R.
This is probably Derby's best little city centre Restaurant, as on other reviews it is a little pricey but certainly not the most expensive eatery around, Starters are around £6 and Mains are mainly in the £15 to £20 bracket. What sets it apart however is the outstanding quality (locally sourced) of the food on offer, its delicious and beautifully presented. The service is also brilliant and most importantly very friendly. As the Wonky Table is relatively small I would recommend you book as early as possible as this gem is in high demand. Enjoy. M
J. R.
Great individual restaurant. Fabulous service and food, try the belly pork. Working really hard to be covid safe, on the verge of forced switching to take away, support them they're great
l. w.
Went for the vegetarian night. We all ate every bit. Absolutely delicious with lots of lovely interesting flavours. Atmosphere was good, staff very friendly & great service! Thank you!
G. L.
Love everything about this place! From the decor, intimate feel, noise level allowing chat comfortably, atmosphere, menu always interesting, food always amazing to the service personalised and always happy to accommodate special diet needs.
G. F.
Love The Wonky Table. They say "Our promise is to provide friendly service, great food in a relaxed, charming, quirky environment" and that's what they deliver. Have been there a number of times and the food and service has always been excellent.
A. G.
Excellent restaurant, great food accompanied by great service in a fantastically friendly atmosphere.
Can't recommend highly enough.
B. S.
As a vegetarian it is often hard to find good quality meals. This place was fantasticly accommodating and delicious. Friendly staff and service. Would definitely go and again and recommend it to anyone
R. R.
Superb, delicious food with first-class service. Can't wait to visit again.
n. s.
Really friendly and professional staff. Cosy and welcoming setting and delicious food!
S. J.
Tucked away in the Cathedral quarter is a quirky but quaint little gem of a restaurant. Check out the menu online and you’ll be intrigued. Whatever you choose you will be pleasantly impressed. Make sure you leave space for desert and I can thoroughly recommend the orange Crem brûlée. You can also finish off with a G&Tea... you’re G&T served in a teapot! Check it out - you won’t be disappointed.
A.
Liked everything from the food, service and atmosphere. Beard in mind that you will not find parking spaces very close so a few minutes walk is going to be part of the journey. Hope they keep up the good work
A. S.
Beautiful food and superb service as always, can't wait to come back
T. S.
Cosy with great food and fantastic service. A must eat place in Derby.
Upping this to a five after their monthly veggie night. A truly amazing experience of flavours. See you next month!!!
D. M.
Wonderful fine dining food! A shame that they were put of stock of every cider and non alcoholic drink I fancied! Still I had a great time with the large group I went with (they have two large tables upstairs for groups)
R. B.
The food was lovely, very friendly staff, they have put a candle in my cake and sang happy birthday for me, which was lovely and spontaneous of them. We had a lovely time!
J. C.
Fantastic food, very friendly and attentive service. Definitely recommend their pizzas, as it's a genuine wood fired oven and they make some brilliant toppings.
M. T.
A group of us went for lunch, the food was amazing and tasted lovely, was bought out in good time and the staff were really friendly. The odd drink order was wrong but they happily fixed the issue, and cant blame them when there is 12 people to take orders from.
V. W.
Didn't have time for the 2 course lunch so we had sandwiches. These were so delightfully delicious, with a pot of excellent tea to boot, that we will be going back soon as possible for lunch from the exciting menu.
K. K.
Food was yummy and cocktails great@
P. T.
Never had a bad meal here. Order tea and you get a substantial sized tea pot instead of a one cup size. Also had my hen do here where whole place booked out for the afternoon. Faultless!
F. H.
The owner here is so lovely ....great place to eat and they cater for vegans.
j. c.
Great food.( Alice in wonderland themed tea party).
Excellent choice and value.
Caters for vegans, vegetarians and gluten free.
Very friendly team.

I’ve been flirting with the idea of “going veggie” for a while, so imagine my surprise when I heard about the Wonky Table’s Vegetarian Night. What better way to see if I can embrace vegetarianism than a little taster?
And so I found myself making a booking and strolling through Derby city centre one fine Wednesday evening to the Wonky Table restaurant nestled in the midst of Sadler Gate. It’s a cosy space and the first thing that hits you is the warmth of a heartfelt welcome. Me and my dining partner were shown to our seat and promptly handed the five course set menu and drinks menu.
We kicked off with the Chilled Pea Velouté that was velvety smooth and the ribbons of mint were a nice refreshing touch. I then chose the Best of British Garden Salad, which consisted of buttery Jersey Royals, chunky broad beans, asparagus, pea shoots, radishes and Salsa Verdi. The wild garlic brought the dish together (I’m a huge fan of garlic, vampires would hate me, seriously) and this was my favourite dish of the menu. I could chow on vat-fuls of this dish, it really was that delicious.
My dining partner was very happy with his Mirin-marinated Vegetable Sushi, with wasabi, herbs and soy dressing. He’s a big fan of sushi and said he didn’t really miss the fish, due to it being perfectly seasoned and “tasty as hell”.
The Gin and Tonic Slushie was a great little palate cleanser just before my main arrived. I had Jamaican Rundown Vegetables in a coconut and chilli sauce with a fried dumpling atop the tropical goodness. The delicately unctuous sauce was creamy, and the highlight was the fried, light-as-air dumpling, which I polished off faster than you can say “you greedy thing!”
My dining partner stuck with the oriental theme and tucked into his Wild Mushroom and Rice Noodle Thai Broth. The earthiness of the meaty mushrooms gave the dish added depth whilst the broth was lip-smackingly good.
I finished with Caramelised Peaches, Hickory Smoked Orange, Candied Hazelnuts and Swedish Glace. The pairing of burnished fleshy peaches with smoked orange was inspired and heaven on a plate, whilst my dining partner’s Vanilla Poached Pear, Elderflower Sorbet and Salted Almond and Apricot Crumb was inventive and moreish.
To round off, the food was beautiful and tasty – and I am exceedingly happy that I live in the vicinity of the Wonky Table. I’d happily forgo my carnivorous intentions if I could eat at the Wonky Vegetarian every night. This inspired dining evening takes place on the first Wednesday of every month. Why not do yourself a favour and check it out?

We were late arriving here but what lovely tasty meal and the pressentation was amazing, and the staff were so friendly, please if you live here or visiting go there you will not be dissapointed. I would but we are on holiday were only staying 2 nights and 200 miles away. Thank you wonky table.
L. O.
Meal was good , however sat by the door asked to move couldn’t move us. I can’t understand as spare tables told reserved. Felt that people and waitress walking past us alnight. It was meant to be a quiet meal for two not the case.
p. g.
Small cosy place with delicate and mesmerising tea pots, interesting chandeliers and hand embroidered table cloths. Afternoon tea presented artistically to the guests. I liked the place for it's cosy and themed environment.
J. M.
Really friendly staff with great food, although not a massive menu.

Great food cooked with delicacy. Couldn't fault it. Friendly service. Come here if you want something decent to eat in Derby
S. C.
Brilliant service and food! Ristricted menu so check you're ok with what they serve but if you prefer quality food over extensive choice then this is THE place to be in Derby.
c. b.
Nice cosy place, food good. No choice of desert for Gluten free people, only cheese and biscuits, so very disappointed
P. T.
Great atmosphere, friendly people, food nicely presented. Taste however, fairly ordinary.
