Reviews of Goddards at Greenwich
A. O.
Delicious. I can't wait to go back and try all the other flavours of pies. It's not expensive. And the staff were very friendly.
Don't make the same mistake I made for dessert. I got the sticky toffee pudding. I should have gotten a crumble or a fruit pie or bread and butter pudding which are all handmade and it was even written on the specials board. But I chose 1 of the 2 desserts not handmade. It was okay the sticky toffee pudding. But I had buyers remorse. Ah well. Next time I go I'll definitely get a crumble or fruit pie.

First visit here can't believe what I have missed the last 10 years! 😱 Great place, quite busy managed to get a seat downstairs but there is more space upstairs. Toilets were upstairs. Great pie/mash & gravy. Will be back soon. 🥧🍽
s. v.
Recommend if you’re trying mash & pie for the first time. I got the cheese and onion with gravy. Was a good size but lacked seasoning/salt for me. Good experience & friendly service.

After walking for hours in Greenwich visiting the Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House, I stumbled upon this place while walking back to take the boat to Central London. So happy that I decided to stop by for a quick bite.
Prices are beyond reasonable for London standards, and the staff is beyond friendly. I got the traditional pie and mash with liquor, and some tea… all for £5 too! The pie was very fresh, and I had never tried pie with liquor before, but really loved it. Would love to come here if I ever visit Greenwich again!
M. L. R.
Fresh pies, good prices, I'll come back. Had the traditional pie and mash with liquor, wife had the lamb with gravy. I preferred the lamb with gravy as it was more meaty. Next time will try the other ones and will probably go for the gravy rather than the liquor though.
R. V.
My first visit and most definitely not my last. Traditional mince pie, mash, gravy and cup of tea for £5.00, what is there not to like.
I will try the liquor on my next visit, with vinegar and pepper!
It's just nice to sit at a proper table, with china plate, cup and cutlery.
Bon appetit 😊
K. P.
My gran always talked about pie mash and liquor so we decided to stop off here after it was recommended to us.
Pies were lovely and great range of flavours
Liquor was lovely but gravy is slso an option if you prefer.
Loved the history of the shop too
D. M.
One of the few old school English place still around .. a true experience very democratic prices £5 for a sweet pie and a liquer or salty pie with a drink ...I love also the vintage interior a gem in London ! Rhubarb crumble and Apple pie top !
Salty ones I love the steak pie and mash
G. M.
Traditional East end pie and mash but with Vegan options as well! Love me a bit of pie and mash, this is what you expect, lovely inside, vinegar on the tables, good price for a filling meal (I had 2 pie, 1 mash). You can have gravy if you don't fancy liqour (but why would you?). Will definitely visit whenever I'm back in Greenwich. Thanks for allowing me to have the food of my childhood whilst being vegan.
A. D.
Home made delicious pies. The portions are generous, the food is delicious and the price is small. Highly recommend to go for the Special - peppered steak pie & mash. Authentic vibe and cheerful service... But "badly behaved children beware", you risk to be made into pies! 🤣
F. R.
Superior Pie & mash experience! Choose your flavor and quantity, add mashed potatoes, add peas or beans and finish with your preferred sauce. Top!!
R. T.
The Best Pie in London! I love this place for its taste, extremely nice service and good prices. Moreover, the atmosphere of this restaurant is wonderful. Always a lot of people loud and that's how it should be. I recommend highly !
W. T. D.
The genuine East-End kitchen. Traditional minced beef pies or five other types including vegetarian options. Parsley sauce or gravy, good mash and delicious eels. Well-priced too. I will be back!
L. R.
I went for lunch yesterday with my partners family who have known Goddards since they were children.
I opted for a chicken and mushroom pie with mash and gravy. It was very tasty and all a bit of an experience - fast and not at all fussy!
Only comment was that the gravy was very salty but not inedible.
l. l.
Great pie, mash and gravy/liquor plus friendly and helpful staff, a must go!
S. C.
Good value British food. Staff really lovely. The bill won't hurt, which is nice, especially in this area.
S. L.
Traditional Pie and Mash shop in Greenwich. So good, tasty food and friendly staff. Always try to go there when I can. Due to mobility issues will be ordering pies online to enjoy their pies in the comfort of my home
S. Y.
The pie was amazing the owners were very friendly. I go there all the time and was sad to hear there will be a change in management. I love the food and I'm hoping the food will stay just as good. The signature pie and mash is the best thing you can have, I loved the pie and double smash.
A. L.
Whilst you cannot argue with the value for money (roughly £6 for two minced beef pies, mash and gravy), the product is slightly underwhelming given the plethora of 5* reviews, which to be fair probably resulted in me having high expectations. Friendly staff and fast service however.
s.
Well what can I say in a word Amazing first visit pie and mash couldn't believe how cheap it was.
c. l.
Really nice feel about the place. Food was excellent and freshly cooked. You could hear the calls for more food to come from the kitchen. They also serve alcohol with the pie and mash. London pride went down well.
Didnt try a pudding but they looked nice.
Would highly recommend.
C. G.
Great place for tradition pie and mash. Comes with gravy and a cup of tea for £5. Probably won’t compete for sophistication with the upmarket city restaurants but it’s good honest food that’ll fill you up. The place is handily situated between Greenwich park and the cutty sark on the main tourist thoroughfare.
A. S.
My better half had never tried the working-class delicacy of pie and mash before, she was very happy I delivered. The best pie and mash u can still get in east or south-east London is in this place. Hot eels are good too. Full of characters in here and very friendly helpful staff, who will tell u what's what with the top cockney menu. They also do mail order for those exiled cockneys.
J. L.
Set your expectations. The pie had a puff pastry type top which I don't like. The base had little taste. The steak was chewy. The mash was like school mash and the beans where sticky. All This would have been helped with some heinz ketchup. But being its a proper pie shop none is out. I have been told since that this is how classic pie and mash is but its not my thing.
A. S.
Simply wow! What a Pie experience at Greenwich. Very very reasonable prices for an unbelievably massive, tasty portions. If you love Pie's and visiting Greenwich, then this cannot be missed. The Pub/ restaurant can get really busy at certain times but you'll always get a seat as they have a multi story seating facilities. Yes, I recommend 👍 Thank you.
J. T.
The pies are incredible. The puddings to die for. Filled me up for 2 days 😍😍
M. B.
We enjoyed lunch here today! WOW! Great food and reasonably priced. I had a chicken and mushroom pie with gravy and mash. My husband had a beef and veg pie. Both were amazing. Do not forget to get dessert. We enjoyed the apple crumble pie with warm custard.
F. L.
Delightful gem of a restaurant. Classic, traditional pie and mash served with a smile. Fantastic prices, great food. Spacious upstairs seating.
T. M.
Surely the best value meal for miles? Lots of variety of tasty pies and generous portions with great service. Will be returning.
S. E.
A traditional pie and mash shop with friendly staff. We were amazed pie & mash with liquor and a mug of tea for a fiver what's not to love. This was my first visit but it won't be my last.
T. l. w. t. w. a. a. m. s.
The perfect fully stuffed traditional British minced beef pies that was even delivered hot and perfectly baked to perfection. The mashed potato never fails to be pure buttery and 100% potatoes thst just melt in your mouth and whatever you decide to put on top ... gravy or parsley sauce, uplifts the meal to another heavenly level. I can never pick just one sauce as you can tell (weird combo but it's seriously thst yum I can't decide!) Whether you choose to eat in or at home...goddards is the no 1 place to be. Don't bother with anyone else!
L. M.
Delicious pies. Nice eels. Vegetarian & gluten-free options. Inexpensive. clean. Good cup of tea. Smiley happy servers. EXCELLENT.
N.
We always go to Goddards when visiting Greenwich! They make the most delicious pies with mash and gravy! We've brought all my friends and family who have visited us too and they also love it. The people working there are so friendly. This will always be my no1 place to eat when in Greenwich! Such a cheap price too! I would also recommend the rhubarb crumble if you have any space for dessert!
R. B.
Kids love it. Service is great, very friendly and generous on portions and friendly on wallet. We like to pick up and take home to eat sometimes when in Greenwich area and again, they are also generous on take away portions. Don't miss dessert!
C.
YUMMY!!!!
Amazing value - Huge plate of pie and mash with a cup of tea for £5
And kids meals with a drink for £3.40
Gorgeous homemade pie, nicely cooked and heaps of mash and liquor or gravy if you prefer.
The pie had lots of filling in and was very tasty
Everyone is lovely in there, really friendly and welcoming and it feels like a real family. If your a regular or a newbie, your sure of a warm welcome.
Right next to Greenwich market and all the attractions :)
J. J.
I can totally vouch for this place. It's a top level pie and mash shop, high praise from me there (am a bit of a P&M connoisseur). And although it's sacrilege they serve regual gravy here which keeps my wife happy, she's no fan of traditional liquor.
E. L.
Great food super friendly staff and so reasonably priced. Nice cup of tea too!
A. “. O.
Had a great time. Simple meal, no fuss. And the upstairs has AC, always a plus for me.
D. L.
Very traditional, everyone that works there are super nice and patient to explain and answer questions.
Huge portion for a fair price.
How ever, everything is just very average unfortunately :/
The pie dough isn't as good as it can be, the mash texture is a bit off, the mushy peas are better elsewhere. The pie filling is great.
I guess this place is so traditional the food is at the level of the old British culinary standards. I would still recommend popping in and having a pie as its an experience.
G. D.
Fantastic place to eat and relax, pies are extremely filling and taste great. Well worth the money. Definitely will visit again.
M. C.
I knew this place from a show called "Bizzare Foods Delicious Destinations (London)" many years ago on youtube. So I decided to go there and tried this authentic Pie and Mash British dish. I've been here twice, the food and desserts never disappoint me ! If you want to try British Authentic meal this is a place you should definitely visit !
R.
One of the best Traditional places in the area, good environment and treat, as well as the taste of its marvellous Pies and Mash with gravy or sauce! :) Not that good the Cherry pie, but tasty apple crumble! It usually's very crowded but no worries, people switch fast and not stay too long in there! Can't go without trying one if you are hanging around!
T. L.
Restrooms- Yes
Kid friendly- Yes
Prices- Cheap with good quality
Goddards serves excellent classic Pie and mash.
Really good value, we spent under £40 on a meal for 6
Serves kids and adults alike and has clean restrooms
Very kind and cheerful staff who run very efficiently and are very helpful.
Plenty good seating (ground level is small but there’s more room upstairs.
My personal favorite was the steak and kidney with black currant crumble and custard for desert
S. H.
Great food, quick and friendly service! Salivating just at the memory…
d. s.
Always amazing pie and mash. Staff are lovely, Max's favourite place ♥️
M. N.
The best pies in Greenwich! They serve good-quality, affordable, and handmade pies with potato mash, and they have both meat and meat-free options. Some pies are also dairy-free, great for me as I have milk intolerance. They also serve sweet pies with seasonal fruit fillings, they’re delicious! A filling pie can cost from 3 to 7 pounds; it’s a real bargain. You order at the counter and then you can do take away or sit in the restaurant which is very cosy. Definitely coming back for more pies!
G.
Very good pie and mash shop. Does a few different pies, not just the traditional beef. Service was friendly!
W. Q. T.
Tried the jelly eel, which is a traditional British food. It is an acquired taste, and I personally like it. You should try it for the experience, and especially if you like fish.
Besides, atmosphere is nice, seatings are plentiful, the staff were great and welcoming. Would definitely recommend regardless you order the eel
M. D.
Traditional London pie and mash shop! There's not that many of these places left. I'm glad this one is going strong still.
The food is amazing value and tastes great. I got pie, mash, stewed eel, and liquor which is the traditional parsley gravy. Best with plenty of vinegar and pepper. Dessert was good too. It reminds of school dinner (in a good way)
Staff are lovely, the food is a bargain and tasty. You can't go far wrong with this.
S. B.
Quick service, astoundingly reasonable priced grub for the south and tasty to boot. Not fine dining but when you need refueling and are after a quick hot tasty lunch this is the place. Just gutted I had no room for cherry pie afterwards
V. P.
Great traditional setting in a beautiful part of historic London. Wonderful eating house ran by passionate staff. I had the vegan pie and mash, just as delicious and authentic as the original meat version. I will strongly recommend Goddard's of Greenwich to all pie and mash lovers, from near or far. Thank you Goddard's, from a new vegan who cannot live without this sort of grub...
r.
Enjoy the lovely pies with tea after the tour of Royal Observatory Greenwich. Friendly service makes me feel like home. The mash is perfect with gravy. The price is inexpensive and acceptable. Nice place for afternoon tea. They also have plenty of seats.
A. F.
This family run restaurant with fantastic old school ambiance is always well worth a stop. Tasty, traditional East End pie & mash & plenty of vegetarian options (& of course traditional eel for the adventurous). Don’t forget pudding; they also sell gorgeous sweet pies & delicious crumble! This is the place for a true taste of authentic, traditional East London cuisine.
T. D.
This shop was amazing, me and my husband had our crying baby who was distressed and hungry, we just wanted some mash and the staff was absolutely lovely. The food tasted good and they even bought us over some water for baby to drink. Their customer service deserves 10 star and just such a welcoming atmosphere. If you’re in Greenwich definitely give them a try ❤️
S. R.
Fresh handmade pies! Minced meat, chicken, ham, sweet ones- all kinds. Staff is extremely nice and welcoming. Pass the temptation from food courts in Greenwich Market because it's worth it. Goddards is just as fast. Great value for your pound as well. A must whilst in Greenwich for sure :)
A. L.
Lovely well portinaly sized pies.
J. L.
Gorgeous crispy pies and creamy mash, with perfect liquor, all cheerfully and speedily served.... Very reasonable prices too!
L. H.
This place serve one of the best pie and mash I have ever tried in London!
Crispy but ate the same time juicy. Their gravy is delicious!

If you like the East End speciality of pie mash and eels, jellies or stewed , this is the place to visit the food is superb and extremely popular so a short wait for a table is possible. The staff are very friendly and always cheerful. I live near Crystal Palace but I frequently get the train to London Bridge and the Uber boat to Greenwich, the town itself is steeped in naval history and well worth a visit.
G. B.
This place has the most amazing pie and mash, will definitely visit again!
O. V.
Traditional old English food, authentic 😀
b. w.
We're here now, found it on Google maps, what great value in the year 2022 ,£5 for pie and mash and a cup of tea 🍵.
Traditional feel ,great
K.
Great value for money, friendly staff, good greasy spoon food.
C. V.
This place is like crack.
It's an addiction.
I had to go to therapy. It was too good.
A. B.
Fantastic old London food and experience. Great staff and service.
G.
Very good pie and mash shop. Does a few different pies, not just the traditional beef. Service was friendly!
A. V.
Great Pie and Mash!! And the Jellied Eels were delicious too.
A. V.
Kind family-run pub with authentic English menu and aur at a reasonable price. We had a great time there. Thank you!
R. E.
Can't find a better place to have my Pie & Mash. Clean, friendly, unpretentious. Yeah, I need this place for my Brits food craving
J. D.
Just had some lovely pie and mash, great food and friendly staff, look forward to visiting again
C.
Staff are so friendly, and the pies are out of this world
One of best pie and mash shops i been to. Definitely worth a vist if you love traditional pie and mash. They also do very tasty dessert
s. l.
Traditional pie and mash. We liked the lamb one a lot! The minced beef one was a. It plain for me taste though. This restaurant is very crowded when I visited, but the staff were really nice and efficient. Would recommend to anyone who’s interested in trying out the traditional pie and mash! Ps. Price is pretty affordable too.
K. K.
Great small.place good food
A. B.
Fantastic old London food and experience. Great staff and service.
C. W.
great food at a great price!
my mum ordered the pie and eels, which she enjoyed very much.
lamb and rosemary pie sold out by 2pm so I suggest going early if you want to try it!
G. C.
Traditional English cuisine in the heart of Greenwich. Not too many of these spots left in London so definitely worth a visit. Stepping inside is like entering a time machine, a time when restaurants such as these were in the majority. If looking for something different and curious about English food, do drop in.
Polite staff and nice atmosphere. The seating is in bench form which isn't the most comfortable. Food is good, limited range but ultimately you don't come to places like this for an extensive menu.
D. H.
Proper London pie and mash shop BUT with the rarity of offering decent gluten free pies, liquor and gravy! As with all good pie and mash shops - really friendly staff and family friendly
V. K.
Very good pie to eat in Greenwich. The staff are very good and helpful. Very clean place to eat and drink .Home made desserts were very good but make the custard slightly cream would be very nice .
T. N.
We visit here birthday's and holidays, lovely pie and mash, friendly staff well worth the trip. We get on the boat down the river and make a real outing of it. Take food home for later too yum😍
J. G.
Another one off the bucket list, it is where reality meets expectations.
Ordered the pie, mash, eels and liquor.
Really enjoyed it.
Great mug of tea as well.
Well worth a visit.
a. c.
Fantastic Staff and food and good value. Excellent place. Very highly recommended.
A. V.
Kind family-run pub with authentic English menu and aur at a reasonable price. We had a great time there. Thank you!
G. B.
This place has the most amazing pie and mash, will definitely visit again!
B. T.
Great prices, huge pies, mash was a bit harder than my personal preference but I can see the appeal. Stewed eel was fun novelty, might tried jellied one day. Great service. Definitely a solid historical visit at this very old restaurant in Greenwich for any tourist.
M. B.
I come all the way from chatham kent with the wife just for pie and mash liquor and rose Lee. Then once we had room in the belly for dessert sticky toffee pudding nice rhubarb crumble lovely jubilee well worth the drive.
L. H.
Marvellous, went in there yesterday at the end of a long pub crawl. Lovely food and people. The rhubarb crumble and ice cream was wonderful. Highly recommended.
J. M.
Pie & mash in its best form. For me pne of the most typical english place there could be. Lovely service, great prices and Apple pie for the end was Just marvelous
V. M.
A fantastic place to come if ever visiting Greenwich park, or just for a visit to this renowned place. The inside atmosphere is reminiscent of a school hall dinner, but in a very pleasant way. With excellent attentive and kind service. We ordered the mash, peas and pie. We also ordered the bread and butter pudding with custard afterwards 🙈🙊😂 ..we were so full, but every bite was delicious.
M. L.
Lovely pie and mash. Brilliant place.
s. s.
Traditional pie and mash! Really good pies, smooth mash and tasty liquor. Excellent value for money, why would you go to a nasty fast food place when you can eat this for the same money!
Highly recommend
A. F.
This place is extremely awesome I travel 10miles they know pie and mash I would never go anywhere else great staff , great atmosphere when you eat in , and awesome take away .
T. B.
Great food, good value, tasty and awesome service. Love the atmosphere.
E. D.
Authentic place for traditional British pies in Greenwich market. 5 quid per pie with mash plus choice of gravy or liquor (parsley sauce). Triple pie, tripple mash, portion is available for only extra 2 pounds if feeling super hungry. Would definately come back again, haven't saved space for rhubarb crumble with custard.
C. R.
Fantastic service and hearty, fresh, delicious pies. Covid pro tip: buy a few pies, some ale from the adjacent off license and have a picnic at greenwich park. SWAG.
H. C.
Pie and mash? Pie double mash? Double pie double mash? Liquor or gravy? A simple but highly effective formula. Good value, friendly service, great vibe. Puddings are good too
L. H.
REAL TASTE OF LONDON - MY FAVOURITE PIE AND MASH , service with a cheeky smile and a bit of good old fashioned London banter , if you want to experience true authentic British food this is the place ! Family run for over 100 years , family friendly , they now have an online service too ! But nothing beats sitting down with a plate of pie and mash , they even have a carpet tapestry of Henry VIII on the wall .... THANK GODDARDS FOR GODDARDS
B. D.
Fantastic food & experience!! A real British cockney down to earth traditional style Pie & Mash place... A true gem! 😊
T. S.
Went down today for my Dad's 70th birthday. despite being busy all four of us got seated and served by very experienced and friendly staff. The food was very well priced and tasted fantastic. Not a fan of the traditional pie myself but I adore the chicken & ham, or the cheese & onion (both pictured) however dad loves the traditional steak pie with all the trimmings and swears by Goddard's. If your looking for a friendly pie and mash shop with a very welcoming atmosphere that some days can be literally queuing out the door for the quality then this is the place for you.
J. J.
The very best pie I've had! Absolutely delicious and the mash was gorgeous. Gravy was very nice too, I'd r commend the normal gravy over the parsley but both are great. The staff are friendly and give you a traditional experience. Plenty of seating and short distance from the river and the cutty Sark. Please go here if you have a chance and like a good pie, you won't be disappointed.
E.
Amazing pie and mash place, look forward to coming back again soon
A. M.
Pie and mash were pretty average. However, staff were friendly and ample of seating space. Maximum 30minutes spent in this place. Not a lot of variety.
A. C.
Gorgeous, cheap nosh. Pie, mash, liquor and eels. Caters for vegans, veggies and meat eaters. Delicious puds too. A traditional venue with a long history. In the 20+ years I have been eating at Goddards, I have never had a duff meal. Really friendly too, despite being busy. Also does take-away.
A. A.
This was my first ever pie and mash and I have to say it was delicious! The place was very busy, but we received fast friendly service.
O. V.
Traditional old English food, authentic 😀
P. B.
Food and service are great, value for money is really good and always a good atmosphere. It is not a top restaurant with waiters and matre de, but it is alot more off a commoners place.
G. M.
Excellent traditional pie and mash. Best around
J. S.
Was in goddards today, what a treat, joking with them later said it was really average, far from it bloody marvellous, steak and kidney pie one of the best I've ever had, nice staff great serviceits a must, happy scouser.
A. E.
Proper pie and mash shop with eels. Took my relatives there from Malaysia. Staff very friendly and advised us as to how to eat the eels. The shop has a nice ambiance and is very popular plus being reasonably priced.
A. S.
This is a “no frills” pie and mash shop. The money they saved on furnishings keeps the price down. Steak and ale pie was delicious. Only criticism, it feels like a canteen and tables aren’t cleaned regularly.
R. W.
An absolute must when visiting London is pie and mash and I was not disappointed by Goddards at Greenwich.
A whole host of eat in and take away options are available. I opted for a spicy mince beef pie with mash and gravy (go for liquor - a parsley sauce if wanting the authentic London pie experience). The better half opted for a vegetarian soya pie with gravy (yes its vegetarian gravy as we were reassured by the friendly staff) a side of mushy peas and 2 cans of pop all for under £12 which is a great price and almost unheard of in London (or anywhere else for that matter) for a meal for 2.
As I touched on earlier the staff are very friendly and helpful in making you choose what to have.
We arrived around 1200 and it was busy and getting busier (but plenty of space) however we walked past around 1530 - 1600 and there was a line outside the door (showing the popularity of the restaurant)
T. C.
Loads of great food. Cheap (they could charge more). Friendly staff. I love this place.
M. O.
I have been to this place on multiple occasions and all I can say that on all occasions the food and service was excellent.
The establishment is really like a home from home and all the food is affordable and they also cater for vegetarians and vegan of which my girlfriend is a vegan. Will definitely be back again.
M. B.
Goddards at Greenwich is the best place, in all of London to get your fill of pies, mash, liquor (with pepper and vinegar of course!), and gravy. My wife had the chicken and mushroom with gravy and mash, superb, with large pieces of chook, and I had a tasty mince beef pie with double mash and liquor. The mashed potato is like what my Gran used to make. It was a top feed, and satisfied my near insatiable Aussie hunger for meat pies. The staff were friendly, funny and made us feel welcome. Very good value for money as well. The best meal I bought in London. But I love pies!
d. t.
My family and I enjoyed a delicious meal of pies and and mash. Very pleasant staff, clean, and great prices. So glad we stopped a local restaurant with so much history.
B. S.
Best pie n mash place ever ,staff are very welcoming and the food is fantastic
P.
Visited here a while back with friends first time I ever tried there amazing pies and liquor
Highly recommend
G. R.
Brilliant place 2 pies 🥧
J. M.
Excellent pie and mash for a very reasonable price. Tried their jelly eel, not a big fan of it. I had a good time here with friends. Highly recommend!
C. S.
Honestly the best pies, peas and mash I've ever had. Good prices and great service, food was excellent.
M. D.
Best pie mash liquor in London always travel across the city for pie mash whenever up in London excellent
E. F.
The Ultimate East London culinary experience! Cracking food with cockney charm.
J. N.
Mediocre pies and mashed potatoes. This may be the traditional way of making them, but I think one should aim for better nowadays. It wouldn't hurt to try to get some flavour in the potatoes or gravy. Even the meat tasted very underspiced.
On the upside, the prices are quite reasonable.
B. N.
I think if you really like pies and mash, this would probably be your sort of thing. For me the pies are quite nice, but the mash is rather too plain and stodgy.
I. W.
First time for me to have traditional pie, mash, eels and liquor. A good experience, and friendly, down to earth cockney staff. They were doing a roaring trade. Not sure that I would rush to have this food again.
J. C.
The best things about Goddards are the location (quite close to everything in Greenwich) and the staff (nice and friendly). An additional advantage is their having rhubarb tarts/pies in any season, why is a great treat. They also have some veggie options, and the place is generally fine for a lunch or a quick bite (mind that the portions are really generous!), but their pies aren't something you will remember with great fondness, and the dining room itself lacks cosiness.
A.
1st class, amazing staff and delicious pie and mash 😋 thank you 👌
S. H.
Lovely welcoming affordable place, serving traditional pies. I have heard they are soon celebrate 130 years.
K. H.
Cute exterior with a little bit of bunting, we went in expecting the best of British and it didn’t disappoint. The food is hearty, a big mess on your plate (in a good way!). We got the pie and mash with jellied eels, hoping it’d transport us back to the days when it was common to eat jellied eels after having convinced relatives in Asia that yes, the English do eat eels! It was recommended that we have this dish with the “liquor” sauce, a mysterious translucent sauce we didn’t understand the flavour of - but we didn’t care! It was great value for money, fun to feel like it was “the good old days”, and even though there were lots of people, we still found a seat (though we saw some people sharing tables with strangers - just a warning if you’re not into that). The lady who served us was also really friendly and kept us updated when we had to wait for our eels, also advising us what it would be best to get.
Bonus: we also got the lamb and rosemary pie. Not a lot of chunks of lamb but where there were, they were perfectly cooked 👌At £5 for a huge plate, you can’t really go wrong. also, mushy peas 💯
R. D.
Great for traditional pie, mash and liquor. Authentic interior, no nonsense staff!
S.
Best English pies and mash in London! Historic business, great service, great food. ;)
d. p.
Very cheap and good food I would highly recommend best place to eat around Greenwich
M. B.
The steak and kidney pie was lovely as seen from the empty plate. The price was very reasonable. I plan to go again to try the eels. The table arrangement is like a canteen so you have to come in and check if there's seating first or might have to share tables with others.
P. M.
A great pie n mash establishment with many different types of pie filling, including a vegetarian mince option. They also offer desserts, plus they also sell beer along with a variety of soft drinks.
A. S.
The staff did a great job considering how busy it was. Pies were great and the prices too!
M. B.
Cute venue with classic traditional British food. Great coffee and very reasonably priced. Really filling hearty food
M.
Traditional pie and mash, perfect every time. Polite staff and great atmosphere
R. W.
I'm not a expert but this is my favourite pie and mash shop. Good food and tea. Reasonably priced. Chilli vinegar. If you ask the lady will show you jellied eels.
R. H.
Absolutely delicious, genuinely one of the nicest pies I've had in years. Lamb & Rosemary as it happens, but apparently the Cheese & Onion and standard Beef were also lovely. As were the stewed eels.
M. W.
Such a lovely place, the pies are so nice and the staff is amazing. Very traditional. Would definitely recommend and we'll be back next time we are in the area
Ю. К.
Cheap and fast, the lamb with rosemary pie is quite tasty. Needless to say, it is right near the Greenwich Park and the Maritime Museum, great spot to rest after running through the tourist attractions.
L. H.
Cheese and onion pie. Delicious
G. L.
Delighted to be able to return, proper food served by proper people to proper people. This really is a London staple and the pies are great and the mash is perfect. As I had a blowout doing the double double, this time I couldn't do dessert. But there'll be a next time...there will be a next time. Top notch.
G. B.
I cannot explain how good the pie tasted. The mash was perfect the liquor was pure heaven. And that was after I walked it home for 45 minutes. 100/10 would eat buy and recommend again. Was so very cheap which was amazing.
E. D.
Bought some of the Instant liquor mix to use when having pie and mash at home. Absolutely incredible. Easy as any instant gravy, and the result tastes just like fresh liquor from a pie shop. Really impressed. Very long shelf life too, my 800g bag will last me almost a year! Excellent value for money.
i. b.
Always nice to visit such a historic food place but I think somewhere down the decades the flavors got a bit lost. Not bad but a bit bland.
O. Y.
Excellent pies that pay homage to honest, simple and flavour-forward cooking, just as food is supposed to be. The pie crust was remarkable; had the right amount of flake that held its own beneath that unctuous brown sauce and pie filling. Well done!
F. T.
One of the few authentic places in Greenwich .True British experience .It's not fine food but you go there for the great atmosphere and the experience.
K. O.
Authentic East End pies - one of the few authentic pie shops still running. It's like stepping back in time, in a good way!
The staff are very friendly, providing an efficient no nonsense approach with no frills attached.
In terms of food, the pies are great value and very tasty. It only set us back £13 to feed two very hungry people which included pie, mash, mushy peas, gravy and a drink each! The portions are also very generous and I wasn't able to finish my food. The pies are obviously home made and the pastry is delicious. My partner approved of the steak and ale pie and is from up north so that's good enough for me!
B. v.
Delicious, best pie mash around good old London
K.
Great value for money, friendly staff, good greasy spoon food.
A. V.
Great Pie and Mash!! And the Jellied Eels were delicious too.
M. b.
I always return here. Staff so warm, rustic seating and tables. Pies always consistantly good, generous filling. Tasty british food at its best, at brilliant prices.
A. B.
Highly recommended place to eat traditional pie like the locals! 😊
D. F.
Excellent, ok this time of year midweek but can get overrun with tourists but food is great, service friendly nice atmosphere
S. T.
Great tasting pies at a very affordable price!
J. M.
Decent pies for budget prices in Greenwich
Pies are about £4 - £5 each and comes with mashed potatoes and gravy. Eating in cheap - check
Beer is £2.90 - £3.60 wow summer
Worth a visit once if you have been living in London for a while (1 year)
Second time difficult to go here
A. W.
Super pie and mash, good quick service, hot food, very well priced.
L. M.
What's to say. You can't beat this, and I've tried most. Nice 1 Goddards for supplying my weekly 1 and 2 🤗
C. V.
This place is like crack.
It's an addiction. …
J.
Tasty pies with amazing price. Happy working staff also contributed to the harmonious dining atmosphere.
L. H.
Just brilliant! Fantastic, fast and friendly service. Wooden booth tables. And of course, amazing pie and mash.
F.
An institution in Greenwich since 1890. Loads of seating available but still it fills up pretty quickly. Quite cheap traditional meals in the heart of the village with a old feel to it. They even serve beers. I would recommend it for everyone visiting Greenwich on a cold rainy day
N. C.
Amazing as always. Even with what's going on in the world, this is still a warm, happy environment to spend time with friends and enjoy a good tradition dinner
L. W.
So glad we stopped here for dinner, rather than braving one of the uninspiring chain restaurants on the high street. The staff were genuine, friendly, efficient, and kind to everyone who came in. Even the lady asking for chips (“just pie and mash, love!”) was directed enthusiastically to the nearest chippy. Top mash, great liquor... but I didn’t really enjoy my pie all that much. It had a slightly strange flavour. At £9 for a beer, veggie soya pie, mash, peas and liquor you can’t really go wrong, but the vegan pie at G Kelly on Roman Road is still a cut above. I would highly recommend Goddard’s over anything else nearby, though! Especially if you’re looking for some fast, hot, tasty food and an authentic experience. I think the traditional meat pies may be more reliable than the veggie option - my partner enjoyed his classic beef mince version.
It is also super clean in here, and the puddings look great - shame we were too full to try one.
L.
Very cheap price to have this proper steak pie and mash. Nice atmosphere.
Friendly staff totally recommend!
B.
Best pie and mash tasted in London after living here over a year. Very affordable. Fast service.
W. W.
Nice pies would recommend upgrading to one of the premium pies, Lamb and Rosemary is my favourites not to mention the desert pie.
a. m.
Great traditional pie, mash and jellied eels. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended! ❤️👣⚡️💑🦑
D. L. H. S. a. m.
A place that is full of complete character and great Pies... at blooming great prices. Just love this gem of a place. A real part of London’s history and has been here as a family business since 1890. I personally don’t like the eels or liquor though I’m told they’re spot on. They also have another shop in Deptford and apparently you can have pies delivered to your door too.
L. B.
Get proper value for money here and so delicious, worth a visit
J.
One of the best pie shops I ever been. Lovely pie and mash, friendly service. Very busy with locals and tourists alike. Still going strong.
A. N.
What a gem,the best pie, mash and liquor I've had,and I've had several meals at several pie and mash cafés, good portions, great food, jellied eels are the best,
Ps the desserts are just too good, the cherry and the apple pie and custard are my favourites,
The staff are great too,
All of them.
Very reasonable prices too.
M. S.
It was a really nice place to have lunch, my family enjoyed it, food was lovely and price was amazing given its in the heart of Greenwich.
A. W.
One of the best pie and mash shops around Eels were delicious too
D. R.
Choice of other pies rather than the traditional pie and mash, I had traditional and it was OK... Have tasted better, hard to beat Kelly's and Cooke's on Broadway market
n. s.
Great food . Love their lamb and rosemary pie 🥰 .... nice friendly staff ....definitely worth a visit
D. B.
Very good cheap food and drinks served here. Its a bit basic inside and seems to have a lot of historical interest for many.
Its very good value for money.
L. M.
First time getting pie and mash from here. Ordered online and picked up very polite and the food tasted amazing!. Support your local businesses people they need you!. Dessert was lovely too will recommend and may well just make this my local. I highly recommended this restaurant.
J. H.
Inexpensive awesome pies; made our trip to greenwich!!
R. D.
Excelent pie & mash. I loved also the parsley souce and chilli vinegar 💚 and a strong aromatic tea. Super nice people, too.
R. T.
Lovely clean place to get the finest Pie N Mash in London would highly recommend if you like ut
J. L.
Pies! Taste good, inexpensive, good portion.
D. P.
Quick service and really excellent pies. The desserts are divine.
Good quality low cost big eats in the centre of greenwich.
V.
Old school and just brilliant. Food was so good and tasted perfect.
Staff were very sweet and friendly.
Queue to get is was long, so you know the food was worth the wait
L. K.
If you are in search for the best pie and mash in town then search no more. Definitely a must while in Greenwich.
M. W.
A very British experience and food. Great staff, good portions reasonably priced. Really enjoyed my time here. Oh, you have to try their chilli vinegar!
A. S.
It's good old fashion pie and mash....and eels if you dare!!!
P. M.
Bare with me !
Ive spent years searching for that pie n mash i used to have with my dad and been all over London tatally disdapointed nearly gave up on the idea today i found Goddards right under my nose absolutely spot on freindly atmosphere nicely done out and most of propper grub !
S. O.
Best pie and mash I've ever had I'll be going back
T. N.
Great food for a very cheap price. The staff are friendly. Veggie options available too.
K. E.
Fab traditional pie and mash shop. Everything you hope to get from such a Greenwich institution.
B. M.
What a wonderful gem of traditional London eating fare. Pies, mash, graveyard and squishy peas!
D. C.
Traditional pie and mash shop since 1890. If you are looking for anything fancy don’t stop here. But if you are looking for good food, a vintage atmosphere and good value for money than that’s your place. Absolutely loved it. Worth the trip all the way from west London
H. Z.
The owner was very friendly. I liked the pies, but they really did not pair well with the mashed potatoes there.
M. S.
Service outstanding, really friendly and helpful! Great pie and mash too
R. L. P. (.
best pie mash and liquor in England, and really really lovely staff
S. C.
Lovely atmosphere with bargain food for the area. Pie, mash, gravy and a cup of tea will set you back £5. My only comment would be the traditional pie could do with a bit more seasoning, but that's the only issue, making this place a little gem.
S. B.
Lovely food and fantastic customer service
G. C.
Nice pie and mash, for very reasonable prices (~£5), in a place with lots of character!
V. O.
Good place for its price (about £5 per person)
A. V.
Traditional pie&mash, good but not like amazing😀
E. P.
Great food at reasonable prices and lovely staff, recommended.
M. S.
Very traditional no nonsense Pies for a very good price. Vegan options available.
D. B.
Beautifully authentic, old-timey Pie shop. Eels worth a shot too.
M. M.
Lovely typical pie and mash store next to the Greenwich market. Plenty of choice for both sweet and savory pies. Huge servings at a really convenient price. Very quick service, with an extremely friendly and competent staff. A really nice surprise and a slice of original London life.
M. J.
Pie, mash and liquor. Served steaming hot and with a smile. Would sugest double pie and double mash as one won't be enough
Highly recommended!
M. J.
Great pie & mash, had chicken & ham pie and mash and beef pie & mash with beans both were great.
郑.
Very nice restaurant!! Pie and mash centered. Haha I do enjoy it, not too salty and the taste is very light to me - it is the way I like! Cheap price, fab food, recommended!
The lady who served me was so nice as well :) the next time I will try a different favour, beef one is so great!
Thanks for making me full and happy!
j. v.
Lovely traditional pie and mash, with a good helping of liquor 👌
P. S.
Love this pie and mash shop family run since 1890 f
Great food great value friendly staff
came from Wembley to greenwich down the thames on boat cruise 🚢
Well worth a visit
J. D.
Just had a delivery, normally with takeaways I'm unlucky as there never that got but this was.
It was fantastic, eaten in many times but this one was the best, even got a portion of chilli vinegar, definitely getting more takeaways from them.
Τ. Κ.
Great food here ,always nice friendly service from jo and Jeff and the team at goddards.
S.
Good hearty, very tasty food. Massive portions. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent value for money. I highly recommend this place, best food in Greenwich. You will leave here licking your lips, full up and satisfied, with a big smile on your face. If you are coming to Greenwich, don't miss out on traditional pie and mash.
c.
Lovely food and lovely friendly staff what more can I say.
H. H.
Double double with liquor for me and single with gravy for her. One of my favourites and shop open 7 days a week
C. Y.
Lovely staff and decent pie 🥧
T. M.
Friendly customer service and excellent pie and mash
L. I.
A true dip into the traditional and tasty English food. It is the very world of pie and mash.
I enjoyed a delicious cheese and onion pie and mash with gravy sauce.
Friendly staff at the counter, where you order and then you can easily find a place in the next room, but I preferred to go upstairs, where more seats are available.
In the heart of a very important London's historical site, it genuinely offers very good and tasty dishes and drinks at a very affordable price.
It worth it 100%
E. B.
Great food, nice location and very fast service. Brilliant experience. I'd go again and recommend it!
N. M.
Lovely little place with authentic interior and menu. Felt as if I was a time traveller.
Cheap and cheerful pies, sausage and mash. I don't know if food is organic and free range but tasted ok and we liked it.
Quick and friendly service.
Actually I think it is the best place for a quick meal in Greenwich.
A. O.
Traditional food place and super affordable! They have two different vegetarian options, one of them with soya mince.
R. F.
Utterly amazing pie and mash shop. Without a doubt one of the best in London, and always very busy.
D. L.
Excellent pie and Mash at a really good price.
D. D.
130 years in business. Nice folks, very good food! Priced right, too.
许.
Delicious pies and excellent service. They have student discounts!
H. O.
Best pie and mash in South London! Always perfect
m. h.
Highly recommend this place the pie and liquor was excellent and served by very friendly staff who also make the pies handmade with tradition. AAA
A. C.
Super tasty Lamb and Rosemary pie, have a go!
L.
Been several times and cannot fault this place. The menu is quite extensive compared to more traditional, working class pie and mash shops in the east-end but I always go for beef mince pie, mash and liquor and it is always top notch. I'm told the gravy is good but my loyalty is with the liquor! Inside the shop is always clean and the staff always friendly.
J. S.
Great food, great people, genuine pie shop sans tourists (I in fact seemed to be the only one.) I didn't enjoy the eels as much as I thought I would. Definitely not the same fish as Japanese unagi, which I love. I got them stewed. Next time I'll try them jellied and see if they go down easier. The steak and kidney pie, steak and ale, and all the rest are top notch. And the proprietors couldn't be nicer. And I should mention, *very* affordable compared to London proper, where even a food truck hot-dog will set you back £6 easy.
J.
Great vegan option. 10/10, would pie again
N. G.
Delicious meat pies! It's quite a bustling place at lunch time, but they work through the queue quickly. Both the meat and kidney pie and the meat and ale pie were rather good. And the price is unbeatable. Under three pounds per pie for take away. Unfortunately, they missed that were ordered six pies instead of five, but they charged us for what they gave us. So just be sure to check your order before you leave the store.
M. A.
We wondered in looking for a bite to eat after visiting some sights in the area. No queue, we took our time ordering as we have a picky 4 year old. It was one of the cheaper meals we ate on our trip but definitely good food. The boy settled on a sausage roll which went over well. After finishing I was tempted to try a sweet pie, but there were people queued out the door at that point!
A. M.
I really have enjoyed my lunch here and I'm happy to fully recommend Goddard's Pie Shop. A heartwarming place!
J. B.
Excellent pie, mash & liqueur. (Also informed the vegan pies are also excellent). Really friendly staff, seating upstairs & down. Good size tables for groups. Also had the blackcurrant & Apple crumble which was the best desert I have had in a while :) (alcohol also served on-site)
M. R. (. P. S.
Very nice pie and mash ,deserts ,crumble and custard so tasty.
Staff very friendly and welcoming.
S. L.
Excellent food ,best traditional pie and mash for miles ,friendly staff, great atmosphere, comfortable seating areas, and very reasonable prices.
T. D.
Always good food and service. One best pie shops o have been to
T.
Great pie and mash, if you want a real experience of east London food come here. The Staff are kind and welcoming. Highly recommend people to visit 👍
M. B.
Fantastic old school Pie and mash but with lots of other options including some vegan items, amazingly friendly staff and spotlessly clean
朱.
The price is really cheap and the food tastes good.
But the orange juice taste like vitamin C tab
D. B.
great pie and mash even sell beer 🌝
A. W.
I've been to this pie and mash shop in the past and will go again in the future, luvly grub
M. T.
My favourite place to eat in Greenwich. Tasty, home made pies including desert pies (I had rhubarb and custard) at very reasonable prices. Quick service although there was a queue leading outside of the door when we arrived and when we left.
L. L.
Lovely food always go back!!!!
Top staff always welcomes ya
P. O.
It's your "traditional" pie and mash shop. The pies are delicious, plenty of filling and lovely and moist meat. There are plenty of options of fillings including vegetarian, but for me it's the traditional pie, mash and liquor. Goddards are one of the last surviving Pie shops, and thankfully is still thriving. The staff are always smiling and friendly, service is brilliant, theres no airs or Grace's, it is what it is. If it's not on the list of places to visit in London, it certainly should be.
Z. E.
Best pie and mash in London. Bosh!
r.
Traditional pies with affordable price. Friendly staff. Simple like that. highly recommended for tourists wishing to try authentic traditional British food and for locals looking for affordable meals. I've been a couple of time and brought guests.
C. W.
I finally tried pie, mash and Eels. It was traditional, none of this fancy stuff with small portions. Proper grub. A nice meaty pie, liquor and eels that were nice with lots of vinegar and white pepper. Friendly staff too. Pie and mash shops are disappearing so it's worth checking this place out
D. P.
The creativity put into these pies, no! These are masterpieces which has blown off my socks. These are no ordinary pies, they will fulfil your every need in life, basically they will become your new life and there will be no need for anything else. I just want to cry for how much effort was made to create these pies. To put it into perspective, the works of Shakespeare are in the ground. These pies are Neptune, that is how highly I recommend these pies. The taste of the cheese and onions are wavey and the lamb pies are brazy.
D. n.
This is the ultimate comfort food for the Winter months! This is a family business, and you can tell by the service and care taken. The pies mash and liquor are all hand made and they have delicious puddings as well. It's inexpensive and the portions are generous. Often there are queues of tourists but the service is efficient. I've always been served quickly; always got a seat and always enjoyed the food! Support this family run business!
P. T.
Thank you for our delicious pie mash. We live in Edinburgh and have ordered from you on several occasions, from different address s, due to moving home. Our daughter Rachelle Tansley ordered for a surprise birthday treat for her Dad. Who is originally from isle of dogs. Absolutely fantastic. Cant rate you guys high enough.x
F. L.
We had steak& kidney pie mash n peas n gravy and we thought it was excellent. Good value for money, food was hot and it was a lovely cup of tea.. of course we had to try the gooseberry crumble n custard which was also excellent .. staff very friendly.. would definitely recommend you give it a go
j. t.
As Pie and Mash goes this is one of the best. Great selection of pies and the mash os always creamy and well seasoned. I am generally a gravy man but the liquor here is bloody good too. The staff are lovely and friendly.
I. P.
Great steak & Ale pie with mash and peas.
Also the eel was great, looking forward to coming back.
E. S.
Delicious! Really good value for money.
n. p.
Delicious pies!
p. m.
The best pies ever. And the vegetarian ones are also delicious. But the best thing are the family that owns the place, they are super friendly and professional.
M.
Proper London Pie and Mash restaurant. Good service, good prices.
V. K.
The best traditional pie and mash vegan style with the vegan sausage roll. lovely and kind staff and A mum style home cooking food.
D. L.
Best Pie n Mash shop by far, so much choice of pies all home made.....
H. E.
Lovely pie and mash lunch and great value!
M. H.
Pies! British food at its best. This place is a friendly and very down-to-earth pie and mash shop, and the pies are really good. My friend and I tried the meat pie, the steak and kidney, and the chicken and mushroom — all excellent. Loved the place. Can't wait to go back.
C. D. A.
Superb food, fast service and a history that goes back many, many years. This was the first time I'd been to Goddards in 40 years and it brought back so many memories of my childhood. I would recommend that if you haven't tasted their food, go and eat. You will not be disappointed.
E. A.
Excellent tradition London food . No frills great price
A. N. N.
FAN-TAS-TIC!
D. D.
Exactly what you would expect from a great east end pie shop. Really good banter from the staff and top notch pie and mash at a reasonable price. Bottles of real beer is also sold here, again at a good price. They took card payment as well which is a real perk as I didn't have to pop to the cash point.
E. B.
A delicious combination of traditional and tasty food. Their prices are the best for their quality food. I really like their Pie & Mash. I would really love to visit here at least once a week. Fantastic shop, great customer service and I would recommend this place to anyone. By the way thank you for being here in Greenwich, we love you.
M. G.
Nice atmosphere. Great food.
A.
Really good pie and mash for such a reasonable price. The service is very quick and plenty of space to sit and eat. The apple crumble is also really nice.
D. G.
As a tourist, I was informed that the definitive British meal is not "Fish & chips" but actually "Pie & mash". Goddards it's an old, traditional place with a friendly staff and good, cheap food. A meal was only about 5 pounds. Check it out when you're in Greenwich.
P. T.
The most friendliest and considerate pie n' mash shop in London! I became vegan and Goddards happily accommodated my pie n' mash needs. Everything about this place is pure nostalgia. I went to Greenwich Uni 10 years ago and I finally repaid a visit after so long to see everything was still just as perfect. The pies in this place are mouth watering and come with a home made comforts. I genuinely cannot wait to go back.
A. M.
My first evet pie and mash. Always wanted to try and did not disappoint. Thank you xx
R. C.
Great food. Must be tried. Double, double all the way.
T. Z.
Exactly what I was looking for. Perfect traditional pie. Many tastes, decent prices and fast service. If you're in Greenwich don't go anywhere else. Go straight to Goddard and experience the best pies in this West London!
S. K.
If you want to try traditional English food this is the right place to be. Staff is very kind, price is very affordable (low) for London. Recommend if you are hungry after visiting Greenwich.
A. C.
In my opinion nice pie with long history Reasonable price.
C. G.
It was pretty decent. Me and my wife ordered a regular beef pie and mash and a side order of eel jelly. On the beef pie and mash we had it with the traditional sauce and it was pretty blend. it will probably taste better with Brown gravy. The eel was pretty good but I could not stand the consistency of the jelly. Its like eating a fishy taste savory JELL-O.
O. O.
I dont eat meat but this place makes the most amazing soya pies and a completely vegetarian gravy, great for vegan. But the piece de resistance is the 'Apple and or BlackBerry Crumble' so yummy and ther best, lots of fruit and lots of crumble. Not too sweet not too sour. I was so happy when I found it open again. Really really lovely people that run and own it. Happy director choreographer here.

A cute little family run establishment that has been around for generations. Extremely affordable lunch ie pies for £4 to £5 and desserts for £3 to £4. Student discount applies to meals with drinks. We tried the rosemary and lamb pie as well as the regular beef mince pie. Was surprised that the former was much tastier than the latter. Service was great, everyone seems to know everyone as it seems to be a local favourite. Apple pie with custard was yummy although they could have gotten away with a bit less custard. Overall a good place worth visiting
G. G.
Always visit Goddard's when I am in London classic Pie & Mash, great service excellent as always
D.
Family run traditional pie and mash shop at affordable price point. I visit this place whenever I'm around Greenwich park, food is authentic and tasty, friendly staff and they also have restrooms! Lamb and rosemary pie along with apple crumble is probably my favourite order here. (Bonus points for delivering through deliveroo)
J. Y.
Fantastic traditional pie and mash shop. Cheapest meal we had in London in a convivial atmosphere. I had pie and mash with liquor (sauce from cooking eels, not alcohol!) plus the hot eels. Son had pie and mash with gravy. The eels were lovely. For pudding we had sticky toffee pudding and the crumble with custard. Hearty portions!
C. D.
Awesome pies n mash served with a friendly smile and for a very very reasonable price. Absolutely recommended!
M. A. W.
Highest quality traditional pies worth travelling across the world to taste.
Outstanding customer service and the surrounding historic town of Greenwich means plenty to do. Since 1890 this amazing family run business has seen it all over 127 years of trading. Simply nothing else to match this Great British food.
H. C.
My husbands favourite meal is pie and mash! Just about been to every one in London and rated this place the best.
I'm not a lover of this meal but thought it delicious! Pudding a bonus. Wonderful staff. Definitely recommend.
A. S.
Ordered some traditional liquor made my own pies. Wow thank you Goddards for bring my favorite meal home. Will definitely be placing more orders! Highly recommended 👌
B. K.
Very nice family run place. Original Pie and mash available with lots of extra pie varieties. Always the same morning, afternoon and night.
If you're looking for a pie and mash this one is a must.
D. D. R.
Food: Had eels, steak pie, and mash with parsley sauce. They were all tasty and inexpensive. For the price you are paying for, portions got me full and I consider myself a massive. Definitely one of the few that serves authentic and traditional british food.
Serving Time: Quick or immediate
Atmosphere: Cozy, quaint, and family-friendly.
Staff: Friendly, welcoming, and enthusiastic. Loads of laughs as customers and staff converse which made the mood of the place delightful despite the busy hours.
Time of Visit: Lunch time (Busy yet accommodating)
D. C.
Great traditional pie, mash n liquor. Also cater for people with coeliac disease, with a real understanding of food contamination. Lovely friendly staff. Plenty of seating area. This place is well worth a visit if you are a local or a visitor to the area/country.
L. H.
Secretly great for Vegans and Vegetarians! The soya pie, mash, liquor (parsley sauce), peas and gravy are all vegan. Classic Meat pies are available too for meat eaters :-). But if you're veggie: don't spend a fortune at a vegan restaurant. The food here is lovely.
C.
Excellent traditional pie and mash also providing fruit pies and custard
J. P.
Coming from the east end I was brought up on pie and mash, sadly most of the pie shops have disappeared and been replaced by pizza and take aways. Goddards is a throw back to real traditional east end grub, even if it's in south London. The pie shop caters for everyone even those that have gravy(shouldn't be allowed),if yer really hungry the do a great selection of afters(sweet menu to the really posh)you can even have a beer!So do yerself a favour and treat yerself to a proper bit of grub
T. M.
Simply tge best Pie & Mash on the planet. When ever we visit Greenwich we always head straight to this place. Highly recommended
T. B.
Bit cramped but lovely place does some proper British pie and mash. You don't see many this side of London so good to see visitors trying something more than fish and chips. Best pie this side
K. L.
Great value traditional pies with gravy or liquor. Friendly welcoming staff and the large tables upstairs make for a sociable atmosphere. I was hear for a quick lunch with a colleague. Service is fast, but no pressure to leave once finished.
K. A.
Love this place! Best pie and mash around. Service is always with a smile. We visit every time we go to London. Great prices and super filling portions .
H. D.
Excellent Pie & Mash shop with a large upstairs eating area. They have a good range of pies, but for me the traditional meat pie with mash & liquor is always my first choice. Shops like these are a dying breed.
M. R.
Best pie n mash I've had.
I. A.
Our go to place for pies in Greenwich, people are lovely! Really recommend the steak and ale pie!
A. Q.
Due to the recent covid restrictions I have ordered a takeaway for delivery, Food has always been hot and fresh when delivered and good sized portions Absolutely no complaints and would strongly recommend.
T. B.
Been coming to Goddard's for years, and for good reason. Great pie and mash, friendly staff and reasonable prices. When I'm back in town, I always try and make a pilgrimage to Greenwich.
Although it has moved premises, the next generation of the family have kept the soul of the old place and you almost forgot that it wasn't always there.
If you like Pie and Mash, come here... if you haven't tried Pie and Mash, come here!
A.
Great pie, great service.
Place is really cozy.
d. p.
Good pies and nice mash. The mash was not runny like some of the other shops around. The staff are really friendly and make you feel welcome. Especially Steve (?) who played games with my baby son and made him happy.
R. B.
Delicious pie, mash and gravy at pretty reasonable prices. You can also order beer to finish off that healthy meal! It's a popular spot but they have a large air-conditioned upstairs so it's usually possible to find a seat. Highly recommended!
C. F.
The best pie and mash shop ever! Friendliest staff, best value, nicest cup of tea. The veggie soya pie is unreal. I always make a detour to visit when about Greenwich.
S. S.
My husband and I most favourite pie and mash shop ever. Not only do they do traditional beef pie, mash and licquor but they also have a range of other pies, gravy and fruit pies and I think one crumble. You can eat in or take away.
J. R.
Love their pie, mash, gravy and cuppa for good value of £5 also lovely staff making you welcome
M. B.
Amazing traditional fare, served by friendly staff, they also deliver, and as such makes the BEST hangover food in London.
The Lamb and rosemary is particularly good....... Stay away from the jeelied eels though, that's one London tradition that can remain in the past. 🤢
I. M.
Every time I visit London I have pie mash liqure and eel this is the best 😋
S. K.
I had the best ever traditional pie, mash and peas here and it was cheap. I would definitely return there and I would highly recommend it for a great hearty and satisfying cheap meal. In my opinion it is a bucket list place in Greenwich!
R. C.
Good honest food, brilliant for kids too
R. L.
Great pie and mash, excellent service - sometimes difficult to get a table. However every time I turn up with my pram, a colleague helps me in - he once even opened the side door for us! Couldn't ask for better help.
The crumble puddings are amazing but huge - will easily serve 2-3 people each!! 👍
i. p.
Best pies in London. Kinda relieved there's no barbers next door lol! In all seriousness though, the team that work here are brilliant, friendly and very hardworking, and the pies are delicious. Incredibly reasonable prices too, especially for London. Highly recommend!
S. N.
Excellent pie and mash, friendly staff. Highly recommended.
C. R.
Rolled back the years, brought back memories of the REAL pie and mash shops in Bermondsey and Brixton.
Lovely, friendly staff and brilliant pie ( I had double, wife had one) mash and liquor. My wife followed up with a crumble which again she said was just like old times.
Out of the way for us but well worth it

This is a perfect example of how a successful business concentrates on doing one thing and doing it well - in the case of Goddard's that thing is Pie & Mash.
Visiting here is a must if you find yourself in Greenwich around lunchtime as it is a dining experience unlike anything else I encountered during my stay in London. Join the queue, make your choice from the huge board behind the counter (gravy or liquor? What is liquor when mentioned as an option for your pie?? If you don't know just ask, the staff are very helpful and obviously used to offering assistance to bewildered tourists!), order then take your food to a table and tuck in - no waiting around here, the staff operate a production line of pies and mash so service is non stop.
Apparently Goddard's have been doing this since the 1800s - it certainly shows.
(If you're interested, I had the chicken and mushroom pie option. With gravy. It was outstanding)
J. F.
Fast-paced serving of cheap, homemade pies and desserts. Far from fine dining but would definitely eat there once a week if I'd live nearby. The marinated eels is what very few pubs provide, and even the desserts are decently sized.
E.
Decent pies at good prices- 5 quid for a tea and pie/mash. Nothing out of this world however.
J. E.
Found this place right after walking out of the Greenwich park, good meal after a long walk around the park.
Cheap price for the meal and its great if you want to try some local food.
The owners were very nice and showed us how to eat the food in the right way.
J. S.
Quaint and traditional pie and mash shop. The chicken and mushroom pie was amazing, and prices were quite reasonable. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert was excellent. Great choice if you're looking for the pie-and-mash experience after visiting the nearby Cutty Sark.
S. C.
Working people's food offered up in classic Goddards style. Love this place and had been going long before they were in this spot (they used to be closer to the City Sark). Apart from.their location, not much has changed. Savoury meat pies with mash and gravy - they have a vegetarian pie too - or eels with mash and liquor ... finished off with a fruit pie or crumble and custard. If you're not into carbs or need a gluten free diet, this isn't for you.
V. M.
Brilliant place for traditional pies and mash. Liquor or gravy but make sure you also go for the homemade vinegar. The crumble is also delicious (still not tried the jellied eels ;). Place is rather busy at lunch time but the service is great, quick, efficient and friendly.
C. “. S.
Very tasty pie and mash shop. The dessert pies are really tasty with custard or ice cream. If you like eels then the jellies and the stewed are very tasty. Best Eatery in Greenwich Village. Chris sirvid London
S. S.
Amazing mash and pie with 2 vegetarian options. Staff is very friendly and place has got nice positive vibe. Their dessert is amazing, check specials. The place closes a bit early 1930 ish, so make sure to visit early in the day.
p. s.
It's a pie n mash shop, working man's grub, but loved by all. This dish is in my soul, like the Thames running through London, it's my favourite. Goddard's is one of the traditional with thier own pastry recipe and pie filling recipes, so they're different to most, but still one of the best in London.
If you visit our capital city, this dish is a must to try for any visitor, tuck in and enjoy
K. M.
Great pie and mash, with vegetarian options which are just as good as the original. Great prices and very kind, friendly staff. Generally nice vibe.
A. S. (.
Nice place to take a stroll and pictures. Love the old buildings and courtyard. Very scenic.
K. R.
Great traditional pie shop, they even have vegan options! Lovely, friendly staff and such reasonable prices. Great gem of Greenwich!
M. W.
Always lovely food here and the people that work there, been going for years now, and many more to come.
A. R.
Amazing traditional pies, with vegan options too!
K. M.
Very reasonable lunch here 5£ for beef pie and tea.
A. T.
Absolutely amazing food the best staff always love coming here. Highly recommended it
R. B. B.
Awesome!
Cheaper than chips. Value for money for traditional food.
P. J.
I like to take my wife for pie and mash and liquor.
N. R.
Had the vegan pie, which was alright. One thing for sure, you won't walk out hungry
A. E.
A pie and mash shop, plain and simple. Nice pies, smooth mash, beans and peas and gravy. It's what to expect from a british pie and mash shop. NO messing, served straight away as you order at the counter Big bench seats that you share with others. Very good prices and good quality food.
S. J.
Probably the best pie and mash in London. Okay, it might be a bit more lavish on the ingredients than a totally traditional gaff, but the pies are awesome and come in a fantastic breadth of varieties. All combos of everything you can imagine are available and the deserts are just lip-smackingly good. The place to take tourists and out of towners to enjoy.
A. L.
Friendly staff. Classic surroundings. Staple food to keep you going throughout the day. Available with gravy or liquor. Variety of pies from traditional to veggie and vegan. A trip to tick for your bucket list.
Y. I.
Love it good pie & mash friendly staff nice family environment
T. H.
Living in West London there are not many Pie & Mash places left so I took a journey to try Goddards for the first time. Friendly staff, great menu of delicious traditional British grub and you can get a beer or cider to go with your meal. This will be the first of many visits despite the journey. Superb all round!!
I. W.
Lovely food, friendly staff. Let me bring my bike inside so it would be safe and sound.
I love it in there. Will be back again soon!

We visited on Bank Holiday when Greenwich was positively heaving with people. Downstairs was busy but we found plenty of seating upstairs where we could look out of the window at the hustle and bustle below. Goddards has been here for 130 years and I doubt that the style or food has changed much in that time. It's fast food, quickly prepared and served on a tray a la school canteen. But the prices reflect this and if you are looking for a quick hearty lunch this is fine. There is quite a large selection of pies - anything from the classic steak and ale, to vegan soya and lamb and rosemary - all served with mash potato and a choice of gravy or liquor (this is a parsley sauce, not an alcoholic drink for those who aren't familiar!) The service was very friendly and I feel like the lady serving us would have happily offered advice had we asked for it.
The pies themselves weren't great. My vegan pie had a tough, tasteless crust and the insides reminded me a lot of a quorn pie. But then for a fiver I can't complain and it was filling enough.
If you are in the area and looking for a cheap eat it's worth stopping in, but if you are looking for a really great tasting pie to introduce your tourist friends to, there are better ones out there!
T.
My husband came with my daughter in 2016 it was lovely to come here also and share the experience. The service is great the pies both sweet and savoury are delicious. Will be thinking about this place as we fly home to Australia.
E. M.
A traditional place to eat. Pie. Mash and liquor a truly London dish to be sampled. Lovely people serving and price of food very reasonable. We will definitely be visiting again.
H. H.
Good first experience, lovely pie mash and liquor, quick service friendly staff and tasty food
J. T.
Delicious traditional food and we found seats easily
H. M.
Found this place by total accident, 110% impressed.
The selection of hot food available is second only to actually visiting the North itself! That and the provision of alcohol make this a must visit place if you're in the area, especially if you just need a quick bite before or after a local event!
G. B.
Best pie & mash around with variety of pies that are tasty with fast service and staff so friendly not often you'll find places like this in London. If you like traditional pie & mash with good old tables and chairs this is the place.
R. S.
What a lovely pie and mash shop myself my partner and 2 girls absolutely loved it, food was very good and staff were amazing
S. C.
This place is awesome!
Very friendly staff, very reasonable prices and very delicious food.
F. S.
Been going to this place for years. Staff is authentic, real people work here no “standard 10 points of service and check backs”. Prices are very friendly for quality, delicious pies and “healthy” portions. If you are in Greenwich pop in for a double chicken and mushroom pie with liquor!
J. P.
One of our main goals on our first trip to London was some traditional pie & mash. The friendly staff helped us decide on what to order and it was all amazing! Reasonably priced too!
j. g.
Went here after being shafted at a so called pie and mash festival in Greenwich.
So glad we did as the food was lovely and even though they were really busy they made time to chat to customers.
Prices were reasonable and the choices of pies were many.
R. K.
The soya vegetarian pie and vegan gravy and parsley gravy was lovely but the instant potato mash was tasteless mixed in water. I prefer the real potato mash not instant mash. Take pride in the real genuine British potato. It does not cost much either! Plus tastes so much better than instant mash!
P. W.
Only been here a couple times while visiting Greenwich but both times it has been brilliant. Come in with my little one who's 2 and they give him a good fuss which is lovely as are all the staff.
a. a.
Very delicious meat pies, for a very small price. This place served authentic British foods, and has been doing so for a very long time. If you're hungry and lucky enough to be near here, this place will not disappoint.
N. C.
Amazing authentic local East end pie shop.. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Traditional pie is very tasty.
L.
Traditional London pie and mash shop. You don't leave here still hungry!
Lovely, friendly staff and a really mixed clientele.
Contrary to tradition, vegetarian and vegan options are available.
L. S.
Lovely traditional Pie and Mash plus much more well worth the trip across the Thames
g. f.
Food is fantastic so delicious
E. P.
Great service, food and price. We'll come back.
A. P.
We tried chicken and mushroom pie with mash £4.70, followed by Apple crumble with 2 scoops of ice cream £3.40. Satisfying. About 4 to 4.5 stars. Will go back again. Nice walk in nearby area.
P. P.
8 of us visited on way to see Argyle play at Charlton. Had double pie and mash and a few ciders. Absolutely superb, didn't need anything else to eat that day until arriving home back in Cornwall at 1am 👍
L. B.
I'm very much a traditionalist when it comes to pie mash and liquor and that's what they do but they also cator for so much more I had lamb and rosemary pie mash and gravy followed by cherry pie and custard and it was fantastic and that's so much more to try can't wait to get back
A. M.
Great Pie and Mash with very friendly atmosphere, washed down with a mug of tea.
L. K. (.
Although I would rather eat someone else's vomit than eat a jellied eel, this restaurant serves excellent pies and mash at a very reasonable rate. Those people who were with me who did try the eel told me that they were delicious. Nice if you want to buy a meal and then go to the nearby parks.
E. P.
An authentic London Pie and Mash shop, if you want a real taste of London this is what you are looking for. I’d recommend the traditional pie and mash with liquor or if you are brave jellied eels.
D. B.
Very busy. Pleasant staff. Lovely Pie and Mash!
M. D.
This is a special place. It is traditional, it's English, it's tasty and affordable and it has a great location and a nice view from windows. I visit it mostly when I have visitors from abroad (because it is so special) and everyone love it. Hope the store will be here unchanged for another 130 years.
C.
Served by Sue. This is very good value for money. The portions are of an acceptable size. The cup of tea was fine. And the dessert! Apple crumble and custard for me, cherry pie for 'er indoors.
The cost? £14 got us a main meal and dessert each, plus the cups of tea. I look forward to the next time.
P. S.
Good old fashioned pie and mash at good old fashioned prices. Staff really nice. What’s not too like! Good cuppa Rosie Lee as well.
C. J.
Lovely pie and mash, kids meals are a great price for generous portion given, and both customers and staff were super friendly. Will defo be going back.
D. F.
I have had pie and mash since I can remember and all over London and even out of London. But today i had my first visit to goddards i am ashamed to say. With out doubt the best pie and mash i have had since i was a child! Even better than manzies i am afraid to say. Try this little gem if you haven't already. 10 out of 10. Very nice staff as well that makes a difference.
B. L.
Goddard's is always busy. That's no surprise, this pie restaurant offers good, simple fare, which is well priced. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I eat there often, when in Greenwich.
J. G.
Amazing traditional food for very cheap prices. Get that pie down your hole.
J. H.
😋
S. S.
Excellent pie and reasonably priced.
For 5 pounds, it's very filling and the taste is vey good. Also they have vegetarian/vegan pies.
P. W.
Good food and friendly staff on a busy Saturday afternoon. Only issue was my father had to wait for his pie which meant I was pretty much finished by the time he was ready to sit down but understandable on a busy day
