Reviews of George & Davis
I. M.
Great spot to get takeaway ice cream in oxford.
Their ice-cream is very creamy and made in-store.
They have some really unique flavours. We tried a few from the sorbets to some really rich flavours. My personal favourite was the coffee and honeycomb 😍 the actual honeycomb pieces were an amazing touch.
Their seating area is not the greatest and can use a bit of a facelift but the friendly staff more than make up for it.
I recommend getting takeaway ice cream and taking a walk around oxford.
I. K.
Absolutely brilliant cute place for ice cream, cakes, breakfasts or even a bagel. Such a wide exciting selection of classic and slightly less traditional flavours.
The hot chocolate is also delicious!
Very sweet interior design and friendly atmosphere.
There is more seating downstairs.
Definitely recommend for breakfast, brunch snack or just a hot chocolate!
M. W.
What an absolute treat. Amazing ice-cream, and the portion sizes were really generous. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Will most certainly be coming back!
A. N.
The staff is super friendly but clearly too few; lineups are way too long although the desserts are incredible and worth it. The lemon and citrus sorbet was a super nice and light recommendation. The coffee is just average. Can’t have it all!
T. H.
Amazingly tasty freshly made waffle sundae. Good range of ice cream flavours. However, the server seemed very grumpy.
D. K.
Expect people queueing up to order because it’s so popular - as they should be. The ice cream has great texture and taste - personal favourites are hazelnut and vanilla. And they do lovely bagels too! When you compare it to their ice cream and perhaps bagels, I don’t think their coffee is equally impressive.
W. R. D. S.
Stopped in on a hot day for some ice cream and opted for a slice of ice cream cake. I wasn't disappointed. I've been here a few times to try their various ice cream options and it's always a worthwhile visit. If you need to satisfy an ice cream itch then this is the place to go.
K. C.
A+ for the ice cream, but a C- for the service! We had to wait 40 minutes in the line to get our ice cream since there were only one person working the line. Aside from that, the ice cream was amazingly fresh and delicious. Its not as sweet, but has that creamy goodness taste full of flavor. One thing to remember, it is ice cream and not Gelato, therefore, please be cognizant of eating the creamy goodness since it will taste and feel different from a Gelato.
N. P.
Ice cream (vanilla) wasn’t anything special. Waffle with chocolate and an old banana was hardly edible. But service was great (hence the 3 stars)
c. l.
Had a super nice ice cream! Coconut, Lotus and banana in a cone
C. K.
Very nice ice cream in a pleasant setting.
I had the after midnight (mint chocolate) after tasting a few of the options. Other flavours tried by member of my family included chocolate, hazelnut and daim bar crunch. The ice cream was very "creamy" but perhaps lacked the intensity of flavour that I would have wanted.
However I enjoy the visit and would recommend it to other who are in the area to try their ice cream.
A. B.
A fantastic place to visit if you are looking for something sweet but also for a snack. They offer a good range of choice, from the bagels and breakfast dishes to the desserts and ice creams. The place is not too big but you will find some seats and tables to eat in. The staff is kind and ready to full-fill your wants. I took the “cookie monster” that is an ice cream (I picked the oreo flavoured one) between two big warm cookies dessert. Absolutely fantastic. Both the cookies and the ice cream were truly delicious. I will probably jump in again if I would pass in front of the shop, because I am curious about all the other stuffs they are offering. A very positive and remarkable note must be done about the cleaning of all the local. Tables, chairs, floor and especially bathroom were tidy and shiny. Nice job! The position is not so close to the city centre, but with a ten minutes walk from there you will be able to reach the shop. It is worth the diversion from the city tour, I promise.
A. S.
Had a lovely Brownie Sundae with Super Chocolate Ice cream.
I've been coming to G&Ds for years. Their ice creams are without question the best in Oxford.
Don't be afraid to ask to try a seemingly wacky flavour, you could be pleasantly surprised.
W. L.
Cute little ice cream spot!
G. M.
Bagels and ice cream! What more could you want in life?! Friendly and helpful staff? They have that too! Win win! Definitely a place to visit if you need to scratch that hunger itch
L. L.
What happened to the good old days of ringing in your birthday with a midnight G&Ds? So many times I’ve wanted to come here for ice cream only to find the parlour closed. Please, please consider returning to your pre-covid opening hours.
- With love and gratitude.
T. C.
Homemade ice cream with variety of flavour. Offer free wifi. Minimum amount of card acceptance at 5£
C. S.
We had a wonderful experience in G&D ice-cream shop the staff were so nice & friendly and the ice-cream was delicious.
A. G.
This is a small on campus ice cream parlor.. also serves sandwiches and coffee. Has scope of improving cleanliness and making the place little more welcoming. Liked the ice cream but didn't meet the expectations!
R. “. P.
The place is fantastic for ice cream and desert's. The staff are wonderful and very patient especially when there is a lot to choose from. Very lively and pleasant atmosphere. Great spot for students and people who want to hang out.
B.
"Make sure you visit G & D's!" was probably the most common refrain you'd hear from OSAP alums before visiting Oxford. At least, those of them from Mississippi State always said this -- perhaps because, as a major AG school, many of us take the production of good ice cream very seriously. We're not called a cow college for nothing. :)
G & D's, of course, refers to George and Davis. And, indeed, they have very, very good ice cream. I tend to keep it simple with chocolate, and theirs was always stellar. They have a couple locations around town so you can pick the one most convenient to you.
It's a very popular place with a loyal following of students, residents, and tourists alike, and definitely worth giving a try.
P. B.
Had a really tasty milkshake and a toasted bagel over spilling with filling. Good looking ice-cream with interesting flavours. Energetic atmosphere. And a cargo bike out the front. Recommended.
C. D.
It's a bit pricey and unfortunately they only accept card above $5 and a scoop in a cup is just under, but it's delicious ice cream and ever-changing flavors :)
J. B.
Great ice cream and hot chocolate.
T. M.
Fab ice cream.. gutted I didn't try the ice cream coffees. Something for next time!
A. B.
Cookie monster is a tad too much for a single person. Had to leave almost an entire biscuit behind. Still very good, and nice staff.
T. P.
The original and (almost) best G&D's - quite small VS the other two, but the vibe is great. The paintings, cows on doors ("Loo!") are great and the menu, counter, and set up are really fresh.
Excellent ice creams, coffee (inc the famous 'Mad Cow', with a scoop of ice cream), and hot chocolate (inc the 'Holy Cow' - as above) are second to none.
Well worth a visit, particularly in lockdown as G&D's is an Oxford Treasure. 😁
A.
A firm favourite for over 20 years - ice cream cakes are divine!
S. S.
I have been here twice now. First time I had there biscoff ice cream and was truly amazed at how tasty it was! This time I knew exactly what I was having! Did not disappoint one bit! Restaurant was very clean and the staff were excellent and very friendly.
K. S.
Best ice cream in Oxford (barring other G&D's outlets). Also does tasty bagels, hot chocolate and (not so good) baked goods. Always changing their ice cream and sorbet flavours so there's always something new. Free wifi, open very late, a great place to chill out with friends, go for a first date, or get some work done.
S. C.
If you haven't been to G&Ds then you haven't "done" Oxford. Where in other cities you are restricted to pub and restaurant after work this city has three ice cream parlours open until midnight. The atmosphere is cozy, the food is awesome and you can get a good range of teas and coffees with cookies or cake. But you won't eat cake. What did I say!?! Yes my good friend Internet you will eat ice cream in the many wonderful forms they have available. Try the cookie monster or the brownie sundae but then what flavour of ice cream? I can't give you ideas because the menu keeps changing as they make flavours from the petition book (which you will sign, oh yes). The Oxford blue is a regular flavour but other flavours like B52 cocktail, Parma Violet and Butterbeer are available. They have also made oddities like Guineas Ice Cream. The bagels make a fresh an different treat for lunch and the coffee is good and fairly priced. Overall you may spend a fortune here by accident but this isn't a place for nourishment it is a place of indulgence so sit back with your favourite book and tuck in to food that will make you an excited child again.
J. R.
Home made Ice cream. All made on the premises. Very tasty for UK standards. Felt a tad pricey though. Good place for a late night hot drink. Welcoming service.
L. S. M.
There are three G&D's in Oxford (all with slightly different names but nobody knows why) but this is my favourite. It's the smallest but the cosiest and there are still tables big enough for groups. Ice cream flavours change every day so you may find a new special you haven't tried yet. I recommend the banana split sundae, because you get two scoops of ice cream with it. They also have colouring pencils and paper which means you might stay for a while.
S. C.
Lovely ambience and good place to have a coffee. Milkshakes are superb (but rather pricey) . Staff are lovely and greet all customers with a friendly and energetic approach . You get eduroam in the space somehow. Mocha is a good one to try. Sadly; no card transactions under £5 at the time of writing (December 2018) - which is understandable for a small business but really an inconvenience for those who just want to grab a quick hot drink.
I. T.
Good ice-cream, mediocre milkshakes. Very basic decor inside.
M. G.
Lovely Oxford based coffee, ice cream and bagel chain. Stable Student wifi connection (eduroam) and agreeable music. Would come again :)
A. M. (. K. M.
Great desert place.
Famous for its ice creams. Ice creams to try include speculate if you are into lotus biscoff and St. John’s caramel crunch. It’s always the same great taste and never seems to disappoint.
A. C.
Great little place for a quick ice cream or coffee. Their ice cream flavours change regularly and are really varied, and they make excellent bagels. This G&Ds is a little small so it might be difficult to find a seat at some times, but the ones on St. Aldates and Cowley are much larger.
V. S.
A lovely ice cream and dessert, also some breakfast options available. Definitely worth giving a visit and trying daily specials. Not so many flavours, though everything presented could be a great choice.
c. k.
Best ice-cream in the world!
a. h.
Great experience for Harry Potter fans...pricey though.
n.
G&D's is an Oxford classic. They have 3 locations, one in Jericho, one on St Aldates and one on Cowley Road. This place is great because you can get savory or sweet and it's open til midnight. They make all their own ice cream on site. They have the classic flavours but also have loads of other indulgent options like oreo, dime bar, salted caramel, Oxford blue. Check on the website for which G&D's you're heading to for a list of what flavours they have that day. If you're heading to the one on St Aldates why not walk it off with a trip round Christchurch Meadows just over the road.
C. C.
I LOVE G&D's! They all have a really great feel to them, great ice cream, great staff, good music...need I go on?!
They're good for a quick bite, chilling with your pals or spending time reading or working. George & Delila is my favourite one because it's pretty big but George & Davis' will always have a special place in my heart!
J. C.
Absolute favourites are the Mediterranean Bagel and the Cookie Monster (one chocolate and one Daim bar cookie of course!) with whichever flavour ice cream looks most interesting on the day.
Service is friendly, speedy and there's often a fun challenge up on the blackboard to try and score yourself a free scoop!
Students may be able to connect to the closest Eduroam signal here and there are a few wall sockets underneath the furthest seats.
M. C.
Our favourite ice cream place. We have a regular family outing into oxford for a treat whenever we can think of an excuse. All ice cream is home made and great flavours.
S. R.
My child and are have made this a very enjoyable lunch treat at the start and end of university terms. Gorgeous ice-cream, and very nice bagels.
Z. K.
Extremely delicious ice cream serving up some home made goodies with tons of flavors to pick from and they also have a good coffee bar and sandwich section! Do try them out if you are around, well worth it!
H.
I had a ham and Swiss bagel from here and it was delicious, the bagel was so soft. Cheap eat for lunch
E. M.
Absolutely delicious ice cream and very generous scoops! The servers are really kind and from my experience they are always happy to help (:
M. L.
Delicious raspberry sorbet!
T.
Lovely staff and ice cream but has minimum card spend of a fiver (what about poor students?) and doesn’t take Amex (okay this is more a visiting yuppy thing).
Ș. S.
Really good bagles and opening times, but really disappointing ice cream...
N. -.
Best ice-cream ever, many flavours, and they are friendly to well-behaved dogs! They work until midnight when all other cafes are already closed.
A. M.
Still the best ice-cream in Oxford, with friendly staff and good coffee too. Wish there was more seating, but Little Clarendon is always a bit cramped.
J. D. (.
Had a lovely sorbet and bagel here, really nice serving lady also :)
S. B.
Ice cream is just ok.
M. W.
This is genuine Oxford, a must do if visiting. It has a great selection of ice cream (I loved their raspberry sorbet), beigels and treats.
T.
Rightly an Oxford institution, the ice-cream is really good, for the ultimate experience get a 'cookie monster' - a scoop of ice cream sandwiched between two warm cookies 🤤
a. M.
Good ice cream with good range of flavours, also nice bagels and sandwiches if you're stopping for lunch. Staff in this branch have always been friendly.
N. G.
Great Affogato ice cream with coffee. Very friendly staff. Nice tables to sit and good atmosphere. Maybe ice cream is a bit pricey.
E. P.
Swift, cheerful service and delicious homemade ice cream - super chocolate lived up to its name, pistachio could be a fraction more pistachioid but still gloriously creamy.
L.
The ice-cream is amazing! I recommend the raspberry sorbet, strawberry ice-cream and the cookies and cream! The toppings are the best!
C. R.
Really really friendly ladies behind the counter, even when busy helped me with recommendations on where to go for tea! Also delicious ice cream!
M. I.
Amazing ice cream, great prices and great location, cant go wrong with a bit of dessert on a sunny summers day!
E. A.
Famous amongst all students and open until midnight, perfect for a pick me up mid essay crisis. Fun and inventive ice cream selection!
C. P.
G&Ds is a magical place that makes hot apple pies appear and serve it with the best ice cream you can imagine. You should try it
T. N.
G&Ds is an Oxford institution and beyond reproach. Whilst my loyalties will always be to the Cowley branch (George and Delia), the Little Clarendon Street branch is still a lovely place to come for an ice cream or a light lunch or a hot drink.
H. S.
Had rosemary and honey (I think) flavored ice cream and it was really well done! A bit pricey but that's what you would expect for good quality ice cream.
Z. S.
The best I've cream in Oxford. The butter pecan flavour is amazing
S. W.
A must visit for our Oxford trips. Really yummy ice cream in a huge range of flavours.
L. K.
Lovely experience, the server was super friendly. Didn't catch your name, I came in for tea before my interview (from Warsash) but I hope Portsmouth win!
P.
I mean it's G and Ds. You just can't go anywhere else for your ice cream fix. So good. Though not good on the wallet. Or the belly, heh. Get Road to Reeses or Daim Bar Crunch in a cookie monster and a glass of malk.
س. م.
Mango 🥭 ice cream
D. S.
Absolutely amazing ice cream, and always different varieties of selections!
C. H.
This is my favourite ice cream place! A must go for anyone going to Oxford! And make sure to vote for the new flavours!
L. O.
Delicious desserts served by friendly people. What's not to like? (don't say the calories...)
G. H.
Quality breakfast bagels, and decent service. Went first thing in the morning when it was quiet, so don't know what it's like when it's busy.
l. k.
Love this place,milk shakes fantastic.
Happy staff makes it better. Thanks for keeping open through lockdown.it kept me sain
D. T.
Funky vibe. Eclectic selection of ice creams. No longer any alcoholic flavours.
M. Y.

Above all, it was good that the staff was very lively and friendly.

(Translated) Lovely flavor. Brownie was so tasty and every icecream flavor was fantastic. Definitely the first place you have to visit if you need some place to take rests and have small talks. Staffs were super super kind. Melted my heart, which had been frozen from the cold cynicism of londoners.
I visited Oxford for a while and the staff were so friendly and nice. The ice cream and brownies were really delicious. Big brownies cost about 3,000 won, so try them with ice cream. It looks good on you.

Brownie is about 3,000 won
I had a glass of milk in the corner like water in a cafe.
Ice cream is strawberry lemon sorbet and daim crunchy bar? I also ate speculate and tasted it. It was 5.25 pounds and I gave it a lot.
Most of all, these staff are so nice and pretty that they leave a long review
There is a lot of people in London who seem to have no laughs or cheapness. Healing in Oxford ... Healing city.
When I went to the bathroom, I played a basketball game at 6:00 pm on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday, it was a cow-related item.
There are tea, coffee types, hot chocolate and apogato.
There was a sandwich. Anyway, very recommended!
