I recently bought a new build house directly from the house builder. Over the last decade this is the fifth house I have bought as part of an on going process to become mortgage free so I speak with a modicum of experience on the process of purchasing properties. This however was the first house That I purchased during the Covid 19 pandemic and found that this made the process harder and much longer to the point that on occasions I was close to giving up trying and probably would have done if not for the support of Hannah at Chartwell Mortgage Services. The main problem I had was proving my identity and place of residence. It felt like the DVLA and HMRC went out of their way to make this beyond difficult. During this time Chartwells showed patience, support and came up with other Ideas for me to establish who I was. Mike Quirk from Chartwells explained early in our dealings what our mortgage options were and what each option would give us, so enabling us to choose the best one. He did this in layman's speak that made all the jargon understandable. Colin from Chartwells gave us some advice on mortgage protection some of which we took in the form of health insurance for my wife. Colin's manner made us feel really comfortable and he found us a most afforadable deal too. Chartwells use a Portall for much of their communications to you, but if you are none technically gifted like me, don't be put off by this because once you read the instructions it's easy to use. Also you can use it to request to speak to them at any point. Thank you to Hannah, Colin and Mike. You looked after us every step of the way. I’m really pleased with the services provided by Chartwell. As a first time buyer I didn’t know what to expect, I had a lot of questions and was impatient to receive the mortgage offer. I would like to thank Mike Quirk, he offered financial advice, found the best mortgage offer for us, was patient and calm while answering all our questions. Mike is very professional, answered the phone every time or he would ring back. The mortgage service they offered were free for us which helped a lot because there are a lot of expenses when buying a house. We had the mortgage offer approved in 4 weeks but the lenders were really busy in August 2020 after lockdown. Also applied to help to buy and there were more staff members involved at some point but I really liked the fact that everyone worked as a team. They have an online portal where you get to upload documents, sent messages to staff, see the records at all times and you get a notification by email and text every time you receive an update. It works well and it’s easy to use. Overall very happy and would definitely recommend Chartwell mortgage services, I will definitely use them again.
