Paul has decorated the lounge, kitchen and utilities room for me. Paul was extremely genuine and was completely trustworthy. Nothing was too much trouble for him and his finish on the walls and ceiling (which were problematic) is absolutely first class. If you are looking for someone who is prompt, reasonably priced, trustworthy and professional then New Look Decorators are the people for you. Has been a pleasure to employ.

Contacted Paul through Yell, quickly contacted us to arrange a home visit quote. Quote was thorough and transparent, knew exactly what we were going to get and were given advice where we weren't sure what wanted. Arrived promptly on arranged date to start work. After a thorough prepping process, painted front room, stairs and landing walls and ceilings, painted all woodwork, radiators and wallpapered feature wall. Work finished to high standard at fair price. Paul is friendly, professional and trustworthy and cleans up carefully. He clearly cares about the work and continuously makes sure you are happy with the work throughout the job. Very happy, would recommend and use again (in fact, getting quote for bathroom!).

Paul recently decorated our stairway, landing and woodwork at our house. I found Paul's details online by looking at his website, seeing some of his work and reading the reviews. Needless to say the quality of the work I could see was the reason I reached out to Paul in the first instance, and from there onwards it had been an absolute pleasure. Paul's attention to detail is outstanding, he was thorough in his work and kept me updated along the way with what he would be doing day by day giving me clear expectations. To say we were happy with the end product of Paul's work would be a massive understatement, Pauls decorating has made our home look brand new and should myself and my partner ever need a decorator again we will only go with Paul, as well as recommending him to friends and family (some of which have already been in touch asking for his details!). On top of the work Paul provided, he is also the most friendliest person I have ever met and treats you as a friend more than a paying customer which in many trades is rare to come by. From the first contact with Paul to completion he has been nothing but professional and helpful. I asked him to quote us to paint an entire 4 bedroom house, along with skirting boards, doors, ceilings etc (a pretty big job). Paul came round and discussed ideas with us and also gave his own professional opinion. He returned the quotation back to us within a few days, Paul was able to make changes and help us come up with new ideas to keep things within our budget. As myself and my partner were working away at the time, Paul was happy to take on full responsibility for the house, locking up each day and also acting as a site foreman for any other trades people that were working within the house also. I was incredibly grateful for this as I had someone I could trust to feedback things to me each day. Paul’s level of hard work and quality shows throughout the house. He completed within the agreed time frame and kept us up to date with progress throughout the weeks. I am really pleased with Paul’s work and would recommend highly. Paul did wallpapering and painting for us and we are really pleased with everything. He is a really friendly, chatty guy. We had a good laugh and he was super respectful and trustworthy. Paul repainted the outside of my porch, including the window frames. I was going to change the existing brick red colour to cream but he advised me to have wire. And Paul was so right! He totally transformed it and improved the look of the whole exterior of the property. There was some rotten wood on the window frame but after Paul treated, filled and painted it you’d never guess. We would definitely recommend Paul and use him again

Paul provided a thorough quote to totally re-decorate a complete flat, which had not been done since it was built 15 years ago. Paul was highly knowledgeable about techniques and products needed to achieve a high quality finish. For example, there were significant areas of cracking and damp and then consideration for walls, ceilings, woodwork, bathroom, radiators, pipes - and a layout with high sloping ceilings. I was happy with the quote and Paul commenced the job on time as a promised. I was delighted that I felt I could trust Paul with the keys and leave him to it, popping in every now and then to see how he (and sometimes his son) were getting on. I was delighted immediately upon seeing the quality of the wall preparation - sanded throughout. I am very happy with the finished result and was a pleasure working with Paul, who is a thoroughly nice chap!

Paul came to quote to strip several rooms of wallpaper and paint ceilings. Upon meeting him, I thought he was very professional and knowledgable of decorating techniques and his price was very reasonable. I gave Paul a house key and left him to it, sometimes he brought his son with him, and both of them got on with the job. He was very trustworthy with access to the house. Paul was extremely tidy! And took a lot of time tidying up after himself and kindly took away the wallpaper scraps afterwards. His painting reflects his tidying skills, he is very careful and painted well. No paint splats on any floors etc either, which I was relieved about. He took time to protect furniture and move it around accordingly. Would I use him again if I need a decorator..yes!

The overall quality of the work was good and I am happy with the end result. Paul is a nice person however the 3 star rating is based on the overall experience as a customer. In the end I had 3 rooms decorated (lounge and 2 bedrooms) and costs discussed prior to the work commencing for the labour. It was agreed that I would pay for the materials required to complete the job. I did ask for a quote for hallway, landing, stairs and kitchen which should have been included in the price as agreed but I had to change my mind as the prices were changing as time went along. This made me reluctant to have this work carried out especially when I was told that this could take up until approximately July 2020 to complete which I thought was far too long, bearing in mind that this is a new build less than 6 months old and that all walls were in good condition (2 bedrooms had floor to ceiling fitted wardrobes). Ceilings, doors and skirting boards work were not required therefore it was walls only for all 3 rooms. I was under no impression that he would be bringing an additional person with him to assist him, but at the time thought nothing of this as Paul said that they were here purely for training purposes. I was never given anything in writing despite several requests. No acknowledgment was provided as to rates charged whether by room or day/hour. The overall speed of the work was not at a steady pace considering that there were 2 people. In the end, I was surprised to be charged for the additional person as this was never discussed at the beginning or during the work commencing. It would have been better if this would have been cleared beforehand. Moving forward, it would have been a much better experience if the customer had been informed prior to the work being implemented.

I needed to find a reliable, personable and fast working painter and decorator in the Derbyshire area to re-decorate a families home, who were to be feature on an advert. Paul’s communication was brilliant, always available to answer any queries I had. As is always the case in the advertising world the turn around is very fast, which Paul wasn’t phased by. I’d like to start by saying that Paul’s work is excellent. He totally transformed our home and made any blemishes vanish. His work really is outstanding. However, (and it is with a heavy heart that I mention this) our overall experience have gone from one that we were thrilled with to one that we are disappointed with. Make no mistake, the work that Paul has done is near perfect and the work alone is the reason why this is a 4 star review and not a 2 star review. One of the great things about Paul is that from the moment you get in touch with him he works hard to earn your trust. You feel like he is someone who you can rely on to get the job done right and be honest throughout. Unfortunately there is not enough space here to go into all of the detail but the short of it is: was quoted a price and told it would take 5 days, we later had some work done and asked Paul to quote us again, he told us it'd be a very reasonable extra £70, first week of work was moving slowly but price was agreed so it didn't matter, Paul said the job was bigger than he expected, dropped hints about being paid more money but didn't outright ask, took two weeks, final bill was 60% more than what we were quoted. Paul never mentioned how much extra his time would cost, what his day rate was or that he would even be charging by the day. As far as we were aware we had a quote for the initial work, an additional cost for the filling and that was that. Any other costs should have been discussed directly, in absolute terms. You should never keep the customer in the dark about this. Our final bill was 60% higher than we had budgeted for. We were shocked, disappointed and felt that it was highly unprofessional not to be upfront about it sooner. He should have sat down and been very honest with us, saying something like: ‘I underestimated how much work this was going to be when I first gave you the quote. It looks like the work is going to take two weeks in total instead of one. Because I underestimated how long it would take and gave you an incorrect quote would you be happy to meet me in the middle by paying 50% of my day rate until the work is done?” Or even "I’m sorry this is taking longer than expected, I know I gave you a quote for X amount but if it’s ok with you I’d like to add an extra £200-£300 to help cover the costs while I get this done for you.” Either of these would have been a thoughtful compromise and we probably would have even insisted that we pay the full day rate anyway. But a discussion like this never happened and the experience has suffered because of it. The silly thing is that the final invoice is still very reasonable and is actually a very similar cost to quotes we had from other decorators. Yes we went with Paul because his quote was cheaper, but we also would have gone with Paul even if his price was the same as others - and that is what makes this situation so frustrating. Had Paul told us from the beginning (or even on his second visit) that the total cost would have to increase then we would have been fine with it. It’s not so much the increase in costs that have disappointed us (although, it was one of the main reasons we chose New Look Decorators), it’s that we weren’t made aware of until a few days before the work was finished. Discussing the situation with my partner she asked if I thought if Paul had purposely low-balled the original price in order to get the job. I’d like to think that this wasn’t the case but regardless, if a customer starts thinking things like this then the damage is already done and you’ve lost their trust. His work is top-notch and I honestly think that you’d be hard to find anyone with more attention to detail. Had he been upfront about the additional costs then I'd be singing his praises, recommending him to everyone and be handing his business cards out myself. We hope that Paul takes this feedback and learns from it so that he can improve his service and truly delight his customers. People will pay for great quality, but the experience is everything.
