Great place for a proper Sunday roast..the food was fresh and very tasty. Real roast potatoes not the frozen type. Less than £50 for 4 x roast dinners (2 of which were kids) and 4 drinks.. Kids we were welcomed as very family oriented and we were asked about dietary requirements when we were seated. Staff were lovely and it's a good lively atmosphere. We will definitely visit again

Turned up on a Sunday evening without booking. Expected to be turned away as it was full. Only 2 of us at 6.30 was immediately shown to a table and was asked for a drink order. Fantastic service thankyou. My wife and I both had the Roast Carvery . We didn't go large. Good job because the meat portions were excellent. Pork, Ham, Turkey, Lamb. No Beef but we had been advised of this when we arrived. Plenty of vegetables and potatoes. Lashings of gravy. All in all a enjoyable meal and drink Thanks to everyone at Formby Toby.

Pleasant, helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We did have to wait nearly an hour for the turkey to come out but this was'nt a hugh problem because we were happy to have a drink and a chat while we waited. The food was lovely as usual.

Bit dated now,but comfortable and good friendly service. As in most of these carvery's,they must be taught how to carve meat paper thin,especially turkey,so most ends up as crumbs on the platter. Great selection of veg,love the roasties and gravy. Aleays satisfied when leaving.

By far the best toby carvery in Merseyside! Food is always fresh and staff are so friendly and helpful however I do have one small complaint. The portions of the meat some days differ, some we get plenty of meat and some we just get 1 or 2 slices. I understand if its set portions but just wasn't too sure whether if some days are different. Would highly recommend traveling out of your way like we do. Our local toby is Aintree but we chose to come further to this one 👌

Plenty of on site parking so convenient,comfortable and safe. Greeted in a very friendly manner as i entered. Time was taken for me to find the table i liked best. The staff did not try to rush our order and were very willing to explain choices and systems and serve drinks. Our lunch was very leisurely. The food was excellent. There were vegan,vegetarian and meat choices. Sandwiches,burgers,pies,piźzas,salads! Something for everyone. Prices were very reasonable and extra portions of veg could be had if wanted. The staff were efficient and attentive including the server on the carvery. The restaurant was spotlessly clean so well done to the cleaners and kitchen staff. Anyone commenting on the dated decor is missing the points of eating out. I would definitely eat here again. Mostly due to the staff who do a great job but lets face it, without the great food not even fantastic staff is enough. Just go!

Food is lovely, staff are also kind and do what they can to tend you're every need. The service in which it is ran though is a sham, people coming in for breakfast even after breakfast has finished, leaving no food for the other people that actually came on time and paid for the food, standing round like lemons waiting for food and only one active member of staff actually trying to run the kitchen. Something needs to be done regarding a cut off time for breakfast so on and so fourth. But although the chef was rushed the food still came out great.

Amazing food, amazing staff..... highly recommended From the minute we through the door everything was excellent, we were welcomed so nicely by I think the manageress, our waitress was lovely and friendly as we're the other staff member. The chefs behind the counter were so lovely, the food was excellent. As we left everyone said goodbye. This place has such a lovely friend feel about it. This is the Formby branch, we live 2 minutes away from the Ainsdale branch which is nowhere near as good. Will definitely be back !

Has been years since we had a carvery here, had a few hours out and decided to try it, it did not disappoint, the food was fresh and delicious, moreso because I didn't have to cook it 😁. For a Sunday carvery, the price was extremely reasonable at £12.49 and had a choice of 4 meats to choose from: gammon, beef, turkey and lamb or you could have a combination of them all if you wanted, and they were very generous portions. The veg was a great choice and all cooked to perfection and the roast potatoes were lovely too and I'm very fussy about my roasties!! There was a choice of condiments and the gravy was thick and tasty. I would definitely recommend this particular branch of Toby carvery to anyone who was in and around Formby for the day. The staff were very friendly and helpful and it wasn't too crowded so if you're worried about too many people in a small area, they are managing it really well. We didn't have dessert because we were full from lunch but I would say that they would be just as lovely as their carvery is.

Very pleasant atmosphere, warm, friendly pub, excellent service staff. The carvery was very mediocre, no salt in any vegetables, gravy hot but tasteless. The only difference between the Turkey and the Beef was the colour. If I had been blindfolded, I couldn't have told you what I was eating. Very bland food. Such a shame. Dessert was very indulgent though.

After paying £14 to get to the restaurant we was told they were fully booked and then at the last minute told me that they had a table but only for 20 mins. The table offered was too small so given an unreserved table. Why wasnt we offered the unreserved table in the first place?

I've done a review of 2 other carverys recently and this was our first visit to the Toby in Formby. The welcome was both warm and friendly and from the outset we could see the decor was lovely and the overall ambiance was very nice. As far as the food goes, it was virtually faultless and certainly on par with the sort of Sunday dinner I would normally cook for ourselves at home. The only caveat I'd say is that this visit was on a Sunday - so it was a bit more expensive, and it may also be the case that they 'raise the bar' for Sundays. That said, we will definitely be visiting again soon.

Great place. Wanted to book a big meal with all the family before we go into lockdown again and Chris the manager sorted it all no problem. Suggested booking us all tables together under different bookings but next to each other so we can all get together as a family. I'd have never thought of that. The best Toby Carvery I have been too. I always worry going to a restaurant as I am a celiac. However none of the usual difficulties here. The staff completely uderstood and plated me the food I chose - directly from the kitchen to avoid contamination. The veggies and roasties were gorgeous and cooked just right. I would not hesitate in recommending this Toby.

Very nice place to go, meat was so tasty and so was the Yorkshire Puddings!! Very nice area and good parking. Disability friendly too. However the ceiling is very low and I bashed my head on the ceiling light so just be mindful if you are over 6'😂 but overall I would definitely recommend this Carvery as there are friendly staff and VERY tasty food.

Booking for 5, drinks order taken no food order for vegetarian offered so my wife had to eat from carvery, a meat free carvery suggests an alternative to meat not just a plate of vegetables for 10 pounds 50 meat was OK but said vegetables were quite poor won't be returning

With their app there are often discounts - I had a birthday treat £10 off when £20 was spent. There is a good vegan/ vegetarian menu too. I have had a couple of dishes on there recently for a change and they were also tasty.

My Husband & I visited yesterday to assess the new COVID19 regulations. We were greeted by George the manager & his as always extremely pleasant staff, the new rules were clearly explained, so we decided to have a couple of drinks; then a Carvery Again, everything was clearly explained, Ozzy served us both a generous portion of meat & his colleague served us as much/little veg/gravy as we requested, which we carried to our well spaced cleaned table; everything was lovely and hot/fresh It was an extremely smooth introduction to the ‘New Normal’

Anyone who writes a review explaining why it's not as good as their Sunday roast really doesn't get the point In these places.

Lovely food. The carvery came recommended and I'm pleased we did it. Restaurant is very crowded on a Sunday and, while there are ramps for wheelchairs, they're steep for disabled folk to negotiate. I'm not sure if advanced booking would help with this to get seats closer to the carvery.

Two of us had a carvery. Managed to get money off with a Groupon voucher. As far as roasts go, it was fine. They need to find a happy medium. Whilst it's important to keep food hot, by doing so, some of the veg had dried out. Maybe cover the dishes when they're not in use. Staff seemed friendly, even during busy periods!!

Staff were polite but had to go and find someone to serve us after sitting at our table for 10 minutes. The place was empty so there wasn’t really a valid reason then after waiting for 5 minutes for the chef to come out of the kitchen a member of staff had to go and tell him to serve us , he still didn’t come straight out . There used to be a lot of different gravy’s to choose from but there was just a veggie option and a meat option. The place has become pretty tatty and could do with a refurbishment. There was dust everywhere including the doors in the toilets. There was a seat missing from one of the toilets and torn wallpaper on the walls. I used to love coming here but it’s just a bit dirty and needs some TLC to bring it back to how it used to be .

We went for breakfast. They are clearly seriously understaffed. The only guy I saw working there was trying so hard to accommodate everyone and sort out out the food shortage issues and making sure everyone got what they needed even though the tables were a mess. I don't remember his name but it was Friday 14th September and he was very friendly and helpful! However Toby carvery needs more staff and to sort out when they decide to stop cooking breakfast food even though breakfast wasn't over!

This Toby Carvery is a typical Toby Carvery with the excellent four roast meat option. As always there is a great choice of vegetables and a number of gravies to choose from. The food is always of a high quality at a very reasonable price. There is a nice atmosphere in this pub and the staff are extremely helpful and welcoming.

Always a pleasure to sit down to a roast in this establishment. Nearly (but not quite) as good as home cooked. Ample portions, welcoming staff and a comfortable friendly atmosphere. The restaurant area CAN get quite warm in summer, but is a pleasure to visit on s cold winters day. IF I have one criticism, it's that the management don't seem to understand the concept of real ale. There is normally a single beer on tap (wainwrights bitter)- but if that is off (waiting for it to settle/no delivery/faulty pump/we DID have it but the cat got to it) or any of the myriad other excuses used, it means a choice between a pint of fizz, or beggar all, despite the alluring display of handpumps! I firmly believe that there isn't a single member of staff who has been trained in basic cellarmanship, as every one of the staff attack the handpumps as though they're milking a bull. The food IS good though.
