Reviews of Lanes Garden Centre and Open Farm
D. w.
Small but plenty to see. The garden center is not just garden center, it has cafe, farm shop and animals to view/feed
My children love visiting, there is old tractor to play on and animals to see (cows, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, golden pheasant and even chip munks)
And best of all it's free. If you have a hour to spare def worth a visit
r. h.
This place has always been close to my heart, I used to come here with my grandparents when I was a toddler and now I can take my son with his grandparents! And as did I, he loves it! Feeding the animals carrots. Also the garden center section offers good quality great priced plants some of which are harder to come across in other garden centers. There is a Cafe there which offers fresh home cooked local foods and deserts milkshakes and much more!
F. w.
Took 2 of the grandchildren here today. Very good they really liked feeding the animals. Free to get in £2 for animal food and a nice cafe and gift shop.. Plenty of free parking.
S.
The gardener (her outdoors) especially loved it - she couldn't buy all the plants she wanted, there were too many to pick from. And the coffee was great too.
J. w.
Garden centre with a petting/farm with birds, pigs, goats and sheep.. free admission and £2 for a bucket of food. Plenty of hand sanitizer stations and restaurant on site. Great afternoon with little kids. Definitely worth visiting
p. D.
BB falconry is simply the best way to be up close and personal with beautiful birds of prey. Ben and Lisa really know about all their birds.. cannot recommend them enough. Tara wants to work with these birds after her afternoon with you. Absolutely amazing..
S. S.
Love the farm. I take my grandson regularly. Food and drinks very good but slightly expensive. Definitely buy the potatoes from here...
E. G.
What a fabulous place to bring children and for friends to meet alike. My children are fairly energetic and were blown away by how close they could get to the wonderful animals. My 20month old daughter was transfixed by the cows... I think it was their tongues. All animals were clearly well loved and looked after and we went through quite a few buckets of feed.
The restaurant was lovely. They have quite strict rules for children and their parents to follow and I think quite rightly. Safety and the comfort of others is very important. The service and food was prompt and of high quality. We will be going back.
c.
Love coming here to feed the animals with all the family. Would normally give 4 or 5 stars unfortunately though ,
One of the busiest days for families to get together and the cafe now doesn't open on a Sunday at all.
Very disappointing 😞
M. G.
The kids love it here... Such a great way to introduce them to farm animals up and close..
V. F.
Very friendly and attentive service and lovely food. We had the leek and potato soup and it was delicious.
I. B.
Lovely place, my son loved seeing the animals... Just be aware next to none of them want to eat the carrots! Although that did give us the fun game of "find the animal that eats carrots".
K. W.
Brilliant little garden centre where you can take the little ones to feed/see the animals. Been a few times now and will continue to come back!
j. b.
I enjoyed our visit here, great place if you enjoy feeding farm animals, sinks provided to wash your hands around the place shopping for plants, fruit, vegetables, children's toys, gardening, wild bird items for the garden, plus lots more. Enjoyed a nice refreshing ice cream at the end 😁
S. H.
Great small farm to spend 1 hour with little one. Free entry and if you want you can get a bucket of carrots to feed animals. There are goats, pigs, cows, lamb etc.
K. P.
Lovely little place for the little one, 2 year old grandson loves it here and always reminds me to get a bucket for the goats 🐐 (cabbage and carrots) he's still not brave enough to feed the cows though 😂 they're a big big for him 😊
H. D. M.
Lovely farm, animal feeding is great for the kids and amazing cafe serving so many options. Would highly recommend the breakfast waffle! So good!!!
K. E.
Great farm area for children to feed the animals. A big variety of home grown plants. Lovely little farm shop selling home grown produce. Worth a visit
L. H.
Great place if you like petting and feeding farm and small animals. We had a falconry experience which was fantastic and really informative. There's a tea room too. Great place to bring kids for a couple of hours.
B. R.
Brilliant for kids, it's not massive but my son loves cows so he was VERY impressed 👏
I. A.
Thoroughly enjoyed feeding and interaction with the animals. Loved the buckets of fresh food you could hand feed them with (apart from some, clearly signed, who were in different diets). Well priced selection of plants for sale, farm shop which was also sensibly priced. Unfortunately we missed the Cafe by a few minutes, a shame as it looked very nice. Not a big place, but friendly animals & staff.
J.
Nice for all size children, £2 of bucket of food for the children to feed the animals, also shop does vegetables ect
G. C. S.
Only stopped by for breakfast but absolutely loved the place, a definite working farm and the staff were really friendly.
The food was delicious and it's easy to see why booking is recommended. Fortunately we were early and managed to get a table.
The breakfast was delicious and it was easy to tell all the produce was fresh.
Can't wait to visit again.
o.
Nice little farm and garden centre although some of the areas could do with some TLC (knocked over plants all over the place). Plenty of areas for hand sanitation 👍
L. B.
Wow thank you so much you made our little girl feel so special. Your love and passion shines through in your fantastic birds. Thank you Ben and Lisa. We will return.
R. B.
Great for kids no entrance cost you just buy the food for the animals
S. L.
We have been quite a few times since discovering it about 6 weeks ago. The kids love feeding the animals, I love the garden centre and we all love the free, easy parking.
L. J.
Great place to visit, been going for years. Enjoy feeding the animals. There is a very good selection of plants, good quality and value. Highly recommended
E. B.
Amazing staff and alot of animals to see and feed as well
K. C.
All 3 of my children love it here and the eldest is 12! Been coming since I was a child myself. Never disappoints!
S. T.
We went with daughter and and granddaughter. It was very nice especially as there were 12 little piglets there. Not a lot of animals but very nice. There is also a shop and a juice cafe. It is split into two areas, one to accommodate under 10 children with parents and the other for over 10 with parents.
S. M.
Lovely place to visit, look around and feed the animals, we like it here
A. K.
Took my daughter here for first time as friends told us about it not over priced for bucket of food clean and friendly place
M. P.
We come here regularly because it's so cheap you pay for the food for the animals and then you get to feed them it's only 2 pounds for a bucket of veg and the 50p for bird food! It's a great trip out! Definitely recommend
c. c.
Amazing value for money great place to visit thanks so much we really enjoyed feeding all the animals 😊😊😊😊😊
T. M.
Sells the best hot chocolate in the world and they have piglets! Superb!
Sadly the cafe is not open on a Sunday anymore, which is a shame (less cake opportunity for me!) But if you want plants.... At sensible prices and a chance to pat a cow, deffo still the place to go!
F. S.
Lovely place to go with all ages, lots of farm animals to see and lovely little shop and cafe.
A. M.
Nice local farm, feed animals, get a coffee.
M. B.
Visited with the children, they loved it. Its fairly small, but enjoyed feeding the animals. Nice cafe also.
d. d.
Visited the Falconry Centre the Wife had a birthday treat flying the owls superb oh and the Cafe was grand too
م. ا.
Nice place for young who wants to see farm animals in nature 😀
A. K.
Slightly disappointing as not many hanging baskets evident and was really busy with no staff around to ask. They have very healthy bedding plants though and good prices.
M. F.
Pleasent and not crowded get up and close with the animals and a bucket of carrots and lettuce to feed them makes a happy 2 year old for 2 hours
H. B.
Visited today and have a lovely experience, well stocked little farm shop with pleasant friendly staff. Free entry and 2 Pounds for a large bucket of feed. Great place to visit with kids for an hour!
J. E.
It was lovely to see the animals add plants plus saw an owl being shown in field too
k. h.
Lots of animals to feed and a lovely relaxing cafe
A. O.
Nice place to take the kids and although it has a cafe, sadly I had no time to use it. Also you can buy your eggs and veg from here but it is really nice to see the kids feeding the animals.
A. C.
We didn't go for the garden centre we went for the owl experience which is situated on the ground. An absolutely brilliant experience flying the owls out in the open air
D. E.
Very nice place to visit especially I you have kids
K. L.
loved this place all my life. the staff are just amazing people who always help you out when you need it. Feeding the animals is soo fun for the price and its always nice to go down and see all the different animals.
Plus the fact that there is an on site coffee shop which as very good food and puddings. 100% would recommend, great trip for the family.
R. R.
Good place to take the kids and have them feed the animals. It's free and you just buy the animal food. There isn't a lot of parking so you might have to wait or drive around the area.
G. P.
We visited BB falconry at the centre for an owl handling experience - it was fabulous. Ben and Lisa were so kind, patient and informative and the birds were amazing. Went with my 8 year old as a surprise for him, and he loved every minute. We shall definitely be returning as I now have a very jealous wife who wants to experience seeing the birds up close and flying them for herself.
L. A.
We had a wonderful morning here, there are a few animals to meet and feed and a gorgeous little cafe, the scones were fresh out of the oven and really tasty. The little shop is brilliant with fruit and vegetables and pet supplies as well as some lovely little toys. My little boy loved climbing on the old tractor and playing with trains in the cafe, a really lovely outing for a couple of hours with small ones
L. L.
Lush place for adults and children alike. The kids love seeing and feeding the animals and the cafe is fab too.
e. h.
Brilliant little farm where you can feed the animals and Nursery really friendly staff well worth a visit just a shame cafe was closed today
j. w.
Very small however, its local and a good price. I have taken my daughter many times, plenty to do, staff are spot on and will return.
a. b.
Love this place, the kids always enjoy feeing the animals.
They have also painted the rusty tractor.
C. O.
Amazing little gem that I am glad I came across. Being able to feed the animals for su h a cheap price is amazing and it's a great time killer. The little cafe round the back is great too.
D. C.
Lovely little place. Didn't go for the garden centre but to just see the few farm animals they have. We fed the different animals and managed to pet some of them. Great experience and ideal for grandparents and grandchildren. Only downside is it's a little messy and could be kept a little bit better but as its free then worth a visit.
L. p.
Lovely little place to take younger children not very big but its free entry so cant complain about it. Its a quick treat for the kids
r. h.
Good place and the farm animals are great . A feeding bucket is £1.50 and you get to feed the pigs, cows, chickens, ducks and goats which is fun. They have a nice little cafe too which serves nice meals and drinks.
J. W.
Love it here cheap day out when you dont have alot of money
C. S.
Called In for a coffee while out for a walk. Just closing up but made time to make us a coffee to take away. Also looked round plants. Must say they have some really nice plants in.
M.
Really nice little farm, the cafe is great and has a really good variety, good quality as well. I love that you can buy buckets of food to feed the animals, they're so friendly it's a fab trip out. Would definitely recommend.
D.
Bought some Spuds ...
They are superb...
S. W.
Great to take the grandchildren for an hour think I enjoyed feeding the animals more than they did
D. P.
Lovely place to see and feed the animals. Great selection of plants, gifts and even a good coffee shop
S. C.
Lovely little place, had a nice selection of flowers/plants and they were reasonably priced.
There are a few farm animals too which was nice to see, including the odd chicken wandering around free range.
R. S.
Not the largest place of this type but easy to get too, good car parking and a great site.
I've already posted a couple of photos..
N. E.
Good selection of plants at reasonable prices. Buy a small bucket of food to feed the animals, just lovely! Don't t forget to visit the cafe really lovely food, very good price!
C. B.
Lovely farm with a great opportunity to feed the animals and a little shop with local produce.
L. B. C.
Its quite good, no charge, walked around and seen quite a few different animals. You can buy food to feed them as well. The garden centre was quite good too, lots of choice. I'd say, well worth a visit .
S. R.
Small garden centre but some nice plants. Small shop selling fast produce, few gardening bits, few toys and gifts. A small cafe, family part is separate to main part for some reason. Average coffee. Nice to see the animals and just £2 to feed them
J. A.
Parking limited. Small garden centre. Plant quality and range not so good. Great for children with farm animals ( feeding allowed). Cafe with some outside seating.
R. S.
AMAZING!!! Great well priced plants, cute cute animals and taste cafe with cheap prices! Must go!
T. F.
Great experience to see happy animals in a good environment, safe for children and with food and a garden centre. A great famiky outing.
J. S.
Large car park. Poor entrance for disabled. Not huge as garden centres go. Animals (goats, peacock, poultry). One problem I should mention, no calculated til receipt. If you buy say three things, assistant adds amount total on cslculator. You are given a total ONLY. This put me off, prices not always clear on goods. Tea room James's was very good when I went on previous visit.
D. C.
Lovely to go back and have a meal and wander round and feed the animals and birds afterwards. Distancing encouraged. Great food as always and the staff and lovely and polite.
N. A.
Thought the animals were well over due a good clean out. Didn't look like they had seen fresh hay in a while. They were wet and stinking (more than you would expect them to be). Kids enjoyed it though.
E. N.
Always love going here.
We have been bringing my children here in and off for the last 9 years and it's still fantastic
L. G.
Not so many animals as we normally see,
J. R.
What a lovely place to visit..... lots of animals for the children to pet and feed. Also a large variety of plants to buy. And a coffee shop and farm shop. Well worth a visit.
K. T.
My little boy, whose nearly 3, loves Lanes. We only usually spend no more than an hour there as it's great for a quick visit. A bucket of carrots and cabbage for the animals is £1.50 and lasts about 15 mins with him and pnce he's finished feeding the animals (cows, goats, pigs and sheep) off he trots to put his bucket back and wash his hands. It's small but fun and there is a small farm shop and plant nursery. There is also James coffee shop which is reasonabley priced but we have only been once. recommend this place for anyone local to it. It would be a little disappointing if you had travelled any great distance.
N. W.
What a lovely little farm! My daughter loved the buckets of cabbage and carrots for the animals. A lovely tea room on site with great food/prices. A lovely afternoon!
D. K.
We do visit here regularly and the kids enjoy it. I think it could be a more attractive place for families of it had a makeover. Nonetheless the kids enjoy the goats and other farmyard animals.
J. F.
Really good day out, just find it strange how draconian the Cafe are about kids when it's attached to a animal feeding farm?
The farm is great, value plants and a really nice layout for the kids to enjoy and interact with the birds and animals.
M. P.
Great place to visit. Kids love feeding the animals. Lots of plants and items for the garden and a great coffee shop. Staff are really helpful and friendly

Fun place to go, great for kids, cheap buckets of food to feed the animals. Has a nice little cafė and outdoor shopping area
M. W.
Friendly people there but always looks like it needs a tidy up and the plants weeded and cared for better, hence 4 stars and not 5. Lovely little place for toddlers to see farm animals close up.
T. O. d. R. B. n. a. o.
A lovely place for the family and, especially the little ones, to meet nature and the beauty of a farm, feed the animals and find lovely plants but also relax with a cuppa
B. L.
Good for children to feed and Learn about animals not a large car park 20 to 30 then to spend about an hour there and then go to bulls head head and have a meal two for one great. 😁
