Garden Designer in Hackney. I count myself as extremely fortunate to have used the services of Duncan and his wonderful team. Duncan listened to my 'dream' of what I had in mind and somehow he was able to untangle my thoughts and create the reality! Duncan, Jack and Dan were fantastic. Punctual, tidy, always considerate, thoughtful and totally professional. The workmanship is exemplary. Living in a small terraced house the work was difficult for them and for me but they were brilliant at being positive and encouraging. These days it's not easy to find a business that does exactly as they've set out to do from start to finiah. With such a stunning end result. I couldn't be happier.

We are more than happy to recommend working with Duncan and his team. He designed a new front garden and bin store for us. His process of design and consultation was really clear and he listened to what we wanted. He was then very honest about aspects that he wouldn’t recommend doing as they wouldn’t last long term and he didn’t feel it would be fair to include them. He is obsessive about attention to detail! He visited the house several times before starting and was always quick to communicate and reply to emails or concerns. His team are great. Dan and Jack were often on site most days and we all felt incredibly comfortable having them in and around the house during the project. My two young children adored them. The project was bang on time wise. Duncan had hoped to be a little ahead of schedule however the weather was dreadful on and off so it was exactly the amount of time expected. Budget wise, we made some aesthetic changes just before Duncan actually started and so as the materials were cheaper that was reflected in the price. After the work was completed, Duncan came back to check on the work and check we were happy. There have been no flagging issues. I have asked for his advice about how some of the wood is naturally changing (it’s cedar so it’s untreated) and he’s been helpful as well as visiting to chat about it. Throughout the project Duncan was available to chat and kept us up up date. We were at home during the 6 weeks (lockdown and WFH) so communication was easy. He and the team also built our next door neighbour a fence as part of our project and were happy to liaise with her and hang various hanging baskets for her too. We are very happy with the end result. The whole street has been interested in the project and people still comment on the work several months on when passing.

What an amazing transformation of our garden in just 2 weeks! Duncan and his team are highly creative skilled, knowledgable friendly. They clearly enjoy their work and take a great pride in it. The end result of our project was very good value for money too. We love sitting and relaxing in our brilliant new garden.

Whilst searching for a Garden Designer in North London I found Hillman Gardens. It has been fantastic working with Duncan and his team: Duncan's design was beautiful, original and conscientiously fulfilled all my aesthetic /functional requirements; he was flexible and readily available to make changes and to explain technical aspects. I work from home and the work itself- slate & brick paving, steel work/ welding, planting- took 2 1/2 weeks with 3-4 people here everyday and Hillman Gardens were punctual, quiet, tidy and considerate of both myself and the neighbours. They finished on schedule, the final budget was exactly what Duncan said it would be and the work was of an extremely high standard both technically and aesthetically. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again and I highly recommend them.

We were delighted with the work done by Duncan and his team in landscaping our back garden. The project was to landscape around a home office that we had recently had installed incorporating various elements into the design such as a path and a pond. Duncan was very responsive in quickly coming up with a sensible design, which was then implemented to the highest standards and with great attention to detail. I cannot exaggerate how pleased we were with the final result: it blended in the home office, incorporated all the elements we required, and at the same time enhanced the sense of space within the garden.

Duncan did an incredible job transforming both the front and back of my terraced house. In the back garden, from a minimal brief (I’m not a designer) he totally understood what I was looking to achieve and managed to create a design that far exceeded my expectations. The results were stunning and incredibly creative, with every detail carefully considered for both space and design. This was crucial in such a small space (see photo). At the front of the house managed to continue the design scheme from the back, whilst also incorporating more traditional elements, including Victorian tiling. Duncan’s consultative approach to the plants we used was also superb. Again, plants aren’t something that I know anything about, so he very knowledgably talked me through the options, considering both the look but also my need for low maintenance! The work Duncan has done has totally transformed the feel of the whole house. I look forward to the many years of enjoying the new space! Duncan was super easy to communicate with, has a very high level of craftmanship and went above and beyond to get it exactly how I wanted it – even helping advise on the finishing touches – furniture etc. A pleasure to work with. Duncan is everything you want from a garden designer. When we made the decision to improve our outdoor space we interviewed about 5 different builders / designers and Duncan was by far the best to deal with - from early consultation, to understanding what we wanted to achieve and then on to actual design / implementation and after care. His attention to detail is what I think sets his work apart. Bc he approached the problem from a design angle, dealing with all the little details are what makes the work look so professional. The work he did for us was fairly detailed - a combination of paving / decking / creating outdoor seating and changing of trees / plants. Whilst we had a good idea of what we wanted to achieve Duncan provided great suggestions that really transformed the whole space beyond what we originally thought possible. In that regard Duncan is a good partner for you regardless of whether you know exactly what you want to do or are looking for full scale help. As a person to deal with Duncan is superb as well - super friendly, extremely respectful of the space, and hard working. It's an understatement to say we are thrilled with what Duncan managed to achieve with our space. His after care is great as well - checking up on how plants are doing and offering advice and assistance where needed. I strongly recommend his services and we will certainly look to use him again when we do our front garden. In conclusion - easy to deal with, phenomenonal attention to detail, high quality, quick work. In short, if he quotes within your budget don't look any further!

From consulting with us on our first ideas through to completion of the garden, Duncan was incredibly passionate about the project, knowledgeable and friendly. Duncan and his boys arrived on time every day, worked hard and were polite and easy to be around. Duncan also kept us well informed about the progress they were making throughout. Through hard work (and battling against Storm Ciara!) they turned our previously ugly concrete back yard in to a beautiful space that we look forward to using for years to come. The quality of their work was outstanding and we are very happy indeed. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to others.

Duncan helped turn my disaster of a garden into a thing of beauty. From the start he was very helpful, providing design ideas where I was at a bit of a loss and coming up with some unique and lovely elements that I wouldn't have considered. He also had the expertise to back everything up and was happy to explain whenever I needed clarification. The price was very reasonable and the work was done very quickly (when it wasn't chucking it down) - I'm really happy with the results! Cheers :)
